Whumpril Day 21: Scars/Fracture
Fandom: Star Wars The Clone Wars
Summary: Obi-wan and Maul see each other again. It wouldn't end well.
Obi-wan knew he couldn't outrun Maul forever. Anger was hard to hide from. Now the Jedi ran through the woods; his robes catching on briers. He tripped over a tree root and fell.
Kenobi's ankle had gotten stuck under the roof. Panicked he pulled at it but it wouldn't budge. "No, no, no" he whispered. With the frantic pulling he broke his ankle, but it was free. He yelled from the pain.
Maul closed in. Obi-wan tried to stand but fell back to the ground. Tears flowed down his face. He was tired.
When Maul arrived, Obi-wan readied himself to try to fight. As much as he wanted to just give up, to just stop fighting, he wouldn't; he couldn't.
"This should be fun" Maul hissed. Obi-wan didn't get a chance to fight back. Maul held him down with the force. He laid there in the dark woods as the Zabrak tore at his skin. He didn't use his lightsaber or a knife; but instead his talents.
Kenobi was helpless. Never before had he felt so much physical pain. He wished for it to be over. Death would be kinder to him and when Maul left his body in the woods the animals would treat him better.
Anakin had sensed his brother's panic and had already been looking for him when the sudden rush of pain flooded his mind. Now he ran faster then he thought he could. He couldn't let Obi-wan down.
As time passes Anakin could feel the hopelessness spread in his masters mind. Horse screaming came into earshot and the man used that to locate the other. He skidded to a stop and drew his lightsaber, "hey Maul!"
Darth Maul removed his talents from Obi-wan's skin and stood. "Hello Skywalker."
Anakin rushed Maul. The two's lightsabers clashed. Obi-wan tried to move but pain kept him in place. The younger of the Jedi position himself between the enemies. In the end Maul would be forced to retreat.
"Obi-wan" Anakin swiftly moved over from the injured jedi. Obi-wan tried to give an answer but couldn't. Then the world went black.
It had been a few months since this had happened. The scars that littered his body terrified him. Obi-wan couldn't look in the mirror much anymore. Basic things like changing and showering was difficult when he avoided looking at himself. He grew slightly distant from his loved ones. In his eyes the scars made him unattractive and revolting.
Cody had the combination too Obi-wan's door. It may have been early morning but his general was always up already so he just wanted to make sure he was okay. At this point neither of them saw a point in the commander knocking so he didn't.
The door slid open. Inside Obi-wan sat at the end of his bed, still in a pair of Cody's blacks in which he wore to sleep. "Hey, are you okay? You're normal up already."
    "Yeah" Obi-wan answered coldly.
Cody walked over to the bed and sat beside him. "What's going on?"
After a little bit of dancing around the problem, Obi-wan finally opened up. "I just don't like looking at them."
    Cody looked puzzled.
"The scars, Cody" Obi-wan sighed."I feel disgusting. I hate them."
Cody moved his hands to grasp the others, "But you survived and those scars prove it. They tell a story of a strong man who lived. Scars or not, you have always been beautiful." Cody cuffed his lover's face, "okay?"
Obi-wan paused. "I'll try to see it that way. You always know just what to say."
"Thanks. Now, you get dressed and we'll go get some breakfast?"
"Okay." After a moment to mentally prepare himself, the Jedi would undress and then dress for the day. The two would head down for breakfast and then go about their day. For the first time that night Obi-wan showered with the lights on. If Cody could still love him, even with every scar, then maybe he could find a way to love himself again the way he once had. For the first time in a while Obi-wan knew everything was going to be okay.

Someone was sobbing. After a moment, Anakin realized Oh. That's me. And then his knees were buckling and he was heading for the ground. Obi-Wan caught him. "It's all right. I've got you." -K. Miller

Oh my GOD I've fallen down the rabbit hole of your glorious skywalkers apart AU and quite apart from being ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED, I have to know if my boy Cal is around in it?!
yes but i never really developed it!! ok we all know i'm never gonna finish that comic script i'll just tell u guys -- in said script, after leia and anakin free Padme, they find out Luke was taken somewhere else which, after a family recon mission, they find is FORTRESS GODDAMN INQUISITORIUS! (which they assume is bc luke tried to use the force to stop the initial arrest, big mistake huge)
anyway all this to say cal's involvement was a tiny-mentioned cameo to explain why anakin knew how to infiltrate nur (the exact line i wrote in the never-finished-script was "we met this jedi survivor a few years back" + comments abt said survivor inflitrating nur 10 years ago yes it was that unsubtle) -- the idea was they had run into one another on a short mission in the past and then gone their separate ways!

Hell yes it is oc time babey!!! This is my togruta oc, Yora Tos, who was Brea's master when she was but a young padawan learner! 💖🫶💖
She was never offered a spot on the jedi council due to her being a little too new-age but she loved younglings and was perfectly happy teaching the next generation! Her personality was incredibly laid-back, and when little firecracker Brea was assigned to her, the council was hoping she might be able to calm the young one a little. Unfortunately for them, Yora had a very hands-off 'children will be children' attitude that gave Brea a LOT of freedom instead 😂 she wasn't UNWILLING to discipline her, but she did think Brea would benefit more from learning the consequences of her actions firsthand rather than reprimanding her too often, which eventually she did learn! The two remained very close even after Brea's knightship and I think Yora would have loved to take on other padawan after that, but the war sort of got in the way.
Her features are very soft, her gentle nature is reflected in her rounded patterns as opposed to the usually sharp-edged togruta patterns. Her colors are mainly cool, including her kyber crystal, as I think of her personality being much like flowing water and I wanted that to show it in her design. Her lightsaber also has a tulip-bud tip that I saw in the cartoon saloon star wars short 'Screechers Reach' and thought would be very fitting for her! Her first outfit design was kimono inspired but I decided to go the saree route instead in the second pic!

Your Thrawn takes (concluding the debate)
Tumblr media
From a poll I did yesterday. You can check out the post on my profile. I’m tempted to do a longer one to get a more accurate result… but that’s it for now! Thanks for participating.
100% people
No character, unless they’re a pure villain, is fully immoral. It’s an interesting viewpoint to take on a character like Thrawn who has undoubtedly done moral actions. Perhaps you view something he did as so immoral it negotiated all of this for you?
Another thing that people seem to not realise: ‘good morals’ and ‘good character’ are not synonymous. If somebody tells you a character that you like has done bad things, don’t take it personally! Nuance is what makes characters interesting. I love characters like Maul and Mahito (jjk) purely because they are completely selfish and atrociously evil. I’m not gonna get sad if someone says, ‘how can you like them they’re evil?’ A huge reason why I like them because they’re evil. Duh. Characters like that are fascinating. That person does not understand the implications of characters as storytelling tools (another reason I would argue it’s so important to analyse critically - you’ll take everything personally otherwise and not be able to appreciate this). Maybe you can help them realise that the character isn’t fully immoral, but is actually an anti-villain or an anti-hero. By having these discussions properly (instead of just getting annoyed and shutting them down) we will realise that, wow, 80% of people have the same view (that’s most of you).
I’m repeating myself again here, but I’d also like to stress the importance of expectations when people post about a story or character. Somebody who makes a post about one particular aspect of a story or character that leans towards more moral or immoral is probably not going to give a balanced judgement of the entire work or characterisation. You’ll realise by responding that, oops, they actually do understand everything you do, it’s just this post was about one small thing and you took it as their entire bias. My post criticising the Ascendancy’s use of child soldiers received a response generalising the fandom as people who are obsessed with analysing morality and think Thrawn is this horrific pure evil character. No… that’s not what I said! (And the morality part, that’s a bad thing?)
This annoys me people
7 people picked the last option, which does make me sad if it’s because they’re frustrated by the type of arguments that seem to arise from this topic and don’t want to engage anymore. Having these better discussions would probably help this. Hopefully they do understand the value of morality in literature analysis in general. It can be an important tool to assess whether one character is more effective than another, to illustrate the themes of your story, and much much more.
Some people view stories are purely for entertainment and not for any intellectual purpose, but I disagree and don’t understand this. I would find stories unbelievably boring that way. If you disagree that’s your personal preference, and I will not change my mind because this is mine, so DNI please.
Conclusion of the debate
The conclusion of the debate is… well, critical analysis (including of the moralality kind) is required to understand what really makes a character a good character.
Thrawn is such an incredibly fascinating character, I think, because of his moral ambiguity. Why does Death Note fascinate people? Take the moral debate out of Death Note and you render the entire story meaningless. There would be nothing. There wouldn’t even be a story. I feel like this is obvious.

hiya kit! hope all has been well with you! are the fics on your ko-fi meant to be one-shots or would you write more for any of these they're all very very good but some feel very complete as they are now while some feel like there might be just a *bit* more? even if its just random thoughts or headcanons?
yeah of course! Most of the fics on ko-fi are based on AUs I’ve created on tumblr - they’re all meant to be more slice of life than fully-fledged finished fic for the most part, as some of these ideas can’t be compressed into 5-7k of a Google doc (like the superhero anakin au or the Jedi healer anakin au) and some of them are just another story amongst the ficlets from tumblr (the princess diaries au: Christmas edition is a good example of this!)
i will always welcome thoughts and questions on the AUs on kofi!! I think a lot of them could be very rich and detailed AUs and I fully expect to carry on with some of them - i just won’t be writing the exact same scenes from ko-fi on here cause that feels unfair…but I won’t make anything on lo-fi absolutely integral to read to understand the au cause that also seems unfair

Personally, I think Obi-Wan telling Anakin would be very romantic. This secret he's kept all his life - this secret that his life hinges upon - not worth keeping if it means deceiving Anakin for any longer. If it means one day being found out & losing his trust.
(Regarding this post and its replies)
I actually agree with you! I think he's slowly coming to the conclusion that he IS going to have to tell Anakin, and that telling him is a much better alternative than Anakin finding out in some other way.
However, I think at the moment Obi-Wan is filled with entirely too much fear. He's kept this secret for decades, from everyone (even his friends, who he stopped talking to, and his other siblings Xanatos and Ahsoka). Komari and Feemor only know because they were there for his first heat. What it comes down to is: Obi-Wan has never actually had to tell anyone before.
The other thing is, at this current point in the story, Obi-Wan is absolutely certain that he'll lose Anakin once Anakin knows. He has this dream where Anakin says he loves Obi-Wan. And in some ways, it shows the "ideal" situation that Obi-Wan's brain can come up with: Even if he was an alpha, the best possible outcome is that Anakin loves him because he's his alpha, not because of who he is. That's why he says it's a nightmare; because Obi-Wan can never live up to actually being an alpha.
Now add in the fact that Obi-Wan doesn't actually think Anakin loves him, plus the niggling doubts he's had for the last 6 months (he never did figure out why Anakin wanted to marry him)...
And why risk telling Anakin at all?
Isn't it better this way, to take what joy he can? To hoard every moment, every scrap of affection that Anakin is willing to give him? He feels guilty, yes, but Obi-Wan is so starved of love, both platonic and romantic, that he can't help himself.
When some of these foundations which shape Obi-Wan's world are no longer true (ie, when he believes that Anakin loves him, when he gets affirmation and affection from his friends), then he'll start to reconsider. I would love for him to take some agency and decide he has enough faith in Anakin to confess; it would be so beautiful and heartfelt and certainly a long time coming!! I just think he's not quiiiite there yet

#1 for Yoda, #1 and #8 for Anakin?
Why do you like or dislike this character?
I like Yoda cause you can tell that he has genuinely tried to do good his whole life, and has tried to help people and those around him but when you're in his position a lot can slip under your nose and so I dislike him cause a lot of the other jedis were afraid to talk to him/the council in case they'd get booted which is just sad lol
and now for Anakin, by god where do I start lmao? i love how loyal he is and how it eventually bites him in the ass, and omg him with Ahsoka and Obi-Wan always makes me cry I love them sm they're such siblings 😭 and idk i don't think i really dislike Anakin lmao i love his character and how he was the good guy™️ but literally turned into the big bad and i love that for him tbh 10/10
8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
hmm i haven't actually been in the fandom for too long so I haven't seen to many bad takes, but ig when they make him to stupid and rash? like yes he's a dumbass be he's also literally one of the best generals for a reason people he is actually really smart?? he rewires droids for godsake, so yeah that is kinda the only thing I can really think of
Ask game!!

It's the last spring of the Duchess Satine Kryze of Mandalore's season, and rumors are abound that this season would be the her last. Beaten down by heartbreak, there are whispers that she’d decided to be buried with her wealth; but the more romantic of the ton speculate that she wishes to find a more unusual partner to intertwine her life with. In a world were power, influence, charm and wit are stepping stone on the ladder of prestige, love has very little influence.
Anakin Skywalker is an engineering prodigy with dirty blood. Obi-Wan Kenobi is the last living Duke of the Order. One marriage may determine the Fate of their family names, and in their vying for her hand, they find their feud has vastly overcome the boon that would be their success. In a galaxy filled with subterfuge, sabotage, sparring, and secrets, the most dangerous rival is the one sleeping in the same bed.
Space!Bridgerton AU.
Give her a read! Mind the tags!
