14. What are your OC's grades like?

Sometimes being a bogo student has its downsides...

Erin would be pretty good at the standard school work (writing papers or reports, taking notes, taking tests, etc.). She had a pretty good academic standing back in her world and just applied what she knew to NRC subjects.

Of course, the transition wasn't exactly one-to-one. I don't know any schools that teach subjects like "Animal Linguistics" or "Ancient Curses" so... she struggled. She just didn't have that familiarity or background knowledge of Twisted Wonderland that most other people did. For instance, if she was told to make a potion for an assignment and was given a list of ingredients, she would have no way of identifying any of them. Even if it was something obvious to rest of the student body, she had no way of knowing without having grown up in Twisted Wonderland.

She promptly gave herself a crash course because failing was humiliating and even if this wasn't her world and she wasn't planning on staying, she wasn't going to look bad.

Any assignments that require magic, Erin is pretty much at the mercy of Grim. WHICH IS UNFORTUNATE BECAUSE GRIM IS KINDA DENSE. He basically cancels out anything she does... He is at least better at performing magic than he is at studying it, so they'll eventually come to an agreement where Grim does the magical half of their assignments and Erin does the written half.

Together, they'd manage a B average.

(There is one class that they're both absurdly good at and I'll get to in the next ask!)

That's what I think I'll do. I'm trying to reword the options to be obvious with the intent as well. But sometimes its difficult. So I think I'll make it default to off and have no romance indicators but have it as optional. Maybe I'll also give the option of it being actually typed out as well, instead of emojis. So it'll be like...

"I think they're cute" or "♥ I think they're cute" or "[Flirt] I think they're cute"

I hadn't considered the accessibility issues that could arise either. So I'll probably start fixing that in my free time. It's not a huge priority as of right now though. I'm still using the emojis in my rough draft for chapter 1.

Wait you wrote some of the Dragon Prince's Reflections short stories? That's awesome, congratulations! What was that like and how much lore did the showrunners give you access to, or were you allowed to make your own additions to canon? 😃 Which ones did you work on if I can ask? Thanks!

Oop, this question came in while I was answering another one! I just went over which Reflections stories were my work here! tldr, most of the first volume and one in the second volume.

I worked with Devon on ideas to pitch, and then on crafting and polishing the ones that got approval. I only needed to know a little bit of lore from upcoming seasons in order to write the stories, but with the timeskip between S3 and S4, I necessarily had to know a few things, like "so it's been two years."

I did get a couple of references to look at, such as the design of the soul candle for "The Queen's Soul," since that was an asset they'd already created for the show. And I did get to watch an early version of the first episode of S4, for character/design/location/etc reasons. A picture is worth 1000 words, etc. But most of my stories were just little bubbles stuck on the side of the main plot bubble - as the Reflections series was originally pitched to be! It's full of treats and foreshadowy lil clues, but in the end it's just fun supplemental material for the extra nerdy to indulge in! So there was some freedom in pitching and writing, as long as it held to theme, and we had a lot of fun bringing these little moments to life.

Crackledrake is my favorite short story because I got to add the cute little ritual to Sunfire canon and created the lore behind it. It's inspired by the real-world tradition of snapdragon, so you can see I was super inventive with its TDP name there! I gave Janai and Amaya their own Xadian fruits and nuts, though, as they deserve. I can't say I did so with a straight face, though. My face was extremely gay about it, actually.

Rise Again was another of my pitches that got accepted, and writing it really helped me connect with Claudia in a way I hadn't before. I've felt differently about her ever since, and that wouldn't've happened if I hadn't gotten to spend time with her and give her Burnt Biscuit.

I think Changing of the Guard was already in the pitch lineup, but I was really excited to get to write for Soren and Corvus. I always enjoy when opposite personalities try to come together! I tried my best to add some angst into Corvus' backstory, but I had to trim it for length so he remains mysterious. But King Ezran's Belly Full of Jelly tart-eating contest is a thing I've put into the world, and I'm genuinely pleased with that. And then there's all the *waves Sorvus flag*. I just think they're neat! (and you're welcome)

if a leverage x white collar collab happened, how do you think each character would react to each other? would peter become another one of their fbi buddies? would sophie and neal compete against each other? how, in your opinion, would that look?

I think my ideal of what would happen is pretty much what I wrote in The Neal Caffrey Job, but I do have a LOT more ideas about possible interactions between teams:

Parker and Mozzie know each other from when Parker was younger (pre-Archie) and Mozzie took her under his wing to teach her how to be a thief (I wanted to include more of them together in TNCJ but it didn't fit)

Parker and Neal both tried to steal the same item at the same time once before, and fucked up the other's plan enough that neither was able to get the item in question (or one of them came out on top, leading to a lifelong grudge which rears its head when the two teams have to work together)

I do think Jones and Hardison would geek out over tech together. That's another thing I couldn't quite make fit in TNCJ, but Jones is the tech guy of the White Collar team, and I think they'd get along

Peter is too smart to get duped by the Leverage crew for long and (unfortunately) his morals are not flexible enough to willingly work with them, though I think El would be much more sympathetic and could convince him not to pursue too aggressively. Like, the Leverage crew would kick marks in NYC Peter's way once they're done with them and have had the big reveal, allowing Peter to arrest them, but Peter would never condone what the Leverage crew does, if that makes sense

I think Neal would want to work with the Leverage crew if he heard what they were doing, but wouldn't be able to help too directly so he does his best to help by putting Peter in the right place at the right time to catch the bad guys (Neal definitely joins Leverage International post s6)

I looooove the idea of Diana recognizing Sophie from her life as the child of a diplomat (yet another thing I couldn't make fit in TNCJ). I think it would be hilarious if Diana saw Sophie and got curious and went looking up a bunch of her aliases, suddenly realizing like two dozen famous people are actually all just the same woman

I also think it would be fun if Neal saw the Leverage ot3 being together and then looked at El and Peter with a little lightbulb moment

Ok last thing to consider: Sarah moves to London at the end of s4. We know that Astrid Pickford (Sophie's step daughter) is an Interpol agent, presumably based in London. I think they would have a lot in common, and they should definitely meet up for drinks and talk about the thieves in their lives and about how they both had to put aside their morals a bit to make sure the right thing got done and then make out about it

2. "You're burning up."

Leon's been grumpy ever since he arrived, sitting sullenly in his seat on the BSAA infiltration chopper, arms crossed and legs spread to exude an air of arrogant disdain that Chris can tell is getting to some of the younger men. They're not unused to rough superiors, most of them having come from the army, but to see the great Leon Kennedy glaring at them like they're bags of garbage---well, it's not great for morale. Chris takes an opportunity to sidle closer once he's done inspecting his rifle, settling a seat away.

"Everything okay?" he asks in an undertone, doing his best to disguise his worry. He's shocked when Leon responds violently with a harsh, hateful glare.

"Fuck off, Redfield," he spits, clearly not okay. His blue eyes are sharp, but slightly glazed, like he'd almost fallen asleep while staring daggers at Chris's recruits. "I'm fine."

"Doesn't look fine," Chris tries, only to lift his hands when Leon scowls in aggravation. "Okay, okay! You know yourself better than I do, man. It's just---you're scaring the newbies with all that Kennedy attitude, y'know?"

He does his best to inject some lightness into his tone, but Leon's expression sours even further, if that were possible. "I told you, it's nothing. Just back off, alright? I could do without the mother hen-ing, today."

Chris falls silent as the chopper begins its descent into the landing zone, sneaking glances at the profile of Leon's face as the man settles back into an irritated pose. His skin is strangely shiny with sweat, Chris notes, the small hairs at the back of his neck slicked together into thick, damp strands. It's nowhere near hot enough to make him that warm, not even with the jacket Leon has clutched around him.

It's when he lurches to his feet as the chopper lands that Chris gets really concerned, Leon's knees buckling almost immediately. He sways for a moment as Chris launches himself upright, then collapses directly into Chris's waiting arms with perfect timing. One of the men gasps as Chris pulls him close and presses a hand to his glistening forehead, tutting when feverish heat meets his palm.

"You're burning up," he says incredulously, refusing to let go of Leon when he squirms weakly. He looks so dazed that Chris isn't sure how he missed all the signs, the bags under his eyes even darker than usual against his pale skin. "Is that what this is about? Why the hell would you come on an op if you're sick?"

" 'm not sick," Leon pouts, pushing at his arms, and Chris understands in an instant. What a stubborn, mulish man his best friend can be. He sighs, guiding Leon back into his seat. The fact that he doesn't fight it tells Chris all he needs to know.

"Don't you dare move," he orders, meeting one of his soldiers' gazes in the corner of his eye and gesturing them over. Leon lets his eyes fall shut and leans his head back against the metal wall, face twisted---but not in anger, Chris realizes. That's a frustrated look of pain. "You are way too warm to be in a battle zone, and you don't look well at all. What hurts?"

"Nothing," Leon crabs.

"Sir?" the young woman Chris had summoned asks, now at his side. She glances nervously between Leon and Chris a few times, ponytail swishing.

"Jenny here will take a look at you," Chris says, rising to his full height. Leon cracks open a baleful eye, groaning. "Now, you can either tell her what's wrong so she can make sure you're alright, or I can take us all home to admit you to the BSAA medical wing. Which would you prefer?"

"You fucking liar. You wouldn't."

"I might." Chris bites back the smile prying at his lips, holding his stony gaze until Leon finally sighs and relents. "You should be at home, resting."

"It's just a headache," Leon insists, but Chris has already won.

"Well, then, I'm sure you won't mind if Jenny gets you something for that while we finish the mission." If he's guessed right, then Leon's too exhausted to even try to slip away, meaning he'll be safe where a medic can look him over and make sure he isn't boiling his brains out being an idiot. The confusion in his gaze had been palpable when Chris had caught him, and he needs to be in bed with a cool compress and some soup. Chris can supply that later.

"No," Leon murmurs, finally giving in. He must be feeling truly awful, and Chris is thankful he saw the signs in time. "I won't."

So I saw you mention the way fans introduce bits of other canon for Sonic sorta wily-nily, and you specifically mentioned the use of the terms Mobius and Mobians. I very much agree with the idea that those terms don’t actually belong in discussion of game canon, *but*. When approaching games canon, how do you personally reconcile the difference between the two kinds of animals on Sonic’s planet, and how do you label them?

As far as I’m aware, the closest labels we have in games media are the various titles given to capsule animals, which include “animals,” “critters,” “flickies,” (though this also refers to a specific variety of critter), and “animal friends”. The animal friends also have their own names—Pocky, Rocky, Flicky, Pecky, Cucky, and Picky—which have been used both to refer to individual animals and to their overall species (all pig animal friends are Picky). I don’t believe we’ve been given an equivalent label for Sonic-type anthropomorphic animals.

I personally use the label Mobians because it’s how I make sense of it in my brain, but I’m wondering if games canon has ever given us an alternative explanation—and, more pointedly, if you think games canon *should* attempt to explain this. The exploration into the history of the Chaos Emeralds in Frontiers and the introduction of a world historian in Professor Victoria indicates to me that the new Sonic lore team may be interested in delving into this background in the future, and I wonder what your take on that is too.

Thanks for bringing this up! It definitely does cross my mind that the Sonic-like beings have no official name which makes it harder to refer to them. My take is basically that absence of information brings a sense of mystique that makes the Sonic universe very wonderful to absorb, so I think it's best to maintain the lack of an official name.

There are many unexplained fascinations within the Sonic universe. To mention a few examples, the islands seem to possess mystical properties. We know of Angel Island and how it floats in the sky. What is less known is how South Island is actually mobile and moves across the water, making it hard to find. There's also brief mentions of the existence of gods in the Sonic 2 manual and in Sonic Riders where they seem to enact punishment on mortals who do wrong by them. Not to mention, Light Gaia and Dark Gaia's whole death-and-rebirth cycle being a thing that exists.

In my opinion, the games should not try to explain why Sonic's species exists. There are a lot of mysteries surrounding Sonic's world that we simply don't have answers to. Where do rings come from? What are Special Stages? Why are there loop-de-loops everywhere? We don't know because we don't need to know, and it adds to the fantastical nature of the Sonic universe to leave certain questions unanswered.

So, in this case, Sonic's species never being given a name can be attributed to this same absence of information present throughout the entire franchise, and the fact that they have never needed a name in the narrative. There has never been a reason to distinguish Sonic's species. They simply seem to be referred to as the animal they are based on, like Sonic being referred to as a hedgehog, and Tails being referred to as a fox, but are treated just as regular people. Meaning they seem to be a mixture of the concepts of human and animal while also being something entirely different.

I think Ohshima put it best when he described Sonic as a fairy-like hedgehog. He's not a hedgehog hedgehog, he's a fairy of a hedgehog. That makes sense to me, and that's how I rationalize him and the rest of Sonic-like beings in my mind.

Obi-Wan squirms from where he's laying on the table, naked from the waist down as a man with a pale blue skin and long horns tinkling with multiple jewellery paints another symbol on his right shoulder.

He still doesn't really understand how he ended up in this situation in the first place or what is expected of him for the rest of the celebrations, and the fact that Anakin's gaze hasn't left him since he stripped from his robes makes him feel increasingly... Restless.

The energy coursing through his veins and under his skin seems to worsen every time the soft brush traces a sigil he doesn't understand around the curve of his biceps or along the column of his throat, adorning the paleness of his carnation with what looked like liquid gold.

Glancing at Anakin in the vain hope to find some sort of comfort, or at least a way to crack a joke to lighten the mood, he quickly realizes that his Padawan is not going to be of any help.

Anakin looks transfigured by the scene on display before his eyes. His pupils are blown wide in the semi-obscurity of the tent, his gaze so completely and intesely focused on him that Obi-Wan feels a blush creep along his cheeks in spite of himself. He shifts uncomfortably as the brush slides down between his chest and along the planes of his stomach to trace a circle around his navel, Anakin's eyes following its movement religiously, his gaze never faltering, not even for a second. Obi-Wan wonders if he has blinked since the beginning of the ritual.
