Joost. Joost fucking Klein. That man was always very charming and he didn't even have to try. He was always the center of attention whereas you were just somewhere back, trying to fit in. Looking for your kind of people that lay back just like you. And if a year back someone would have said to you, that you're going to be in love with this man, you wouldn't believe them. Probably laugh in their face. You and Joost? Ha, you could never... could you?

He was the god of the party. Whenever he walked into a room, it was like the atmosphere shifted. People gravitated towards him, drawn by his effortless charm and infectious energy. He had this way of making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the world, even if just for a moment. Yeah, you know, Joost.

You and him met pretty easily, not in some grand, starstruck way, but through friends. It was at one of those low-key gatherings that start with a few people and end up with the entire social circle crammed into a living room. Joost was in his element, entertaining the crowd with stories and jokes. You watched him, intrigued by how natural it all seemed to him.

As the night went on, you and him somehow ended up in the same conversation circle. It wasn't long before you were chatting like old friends that have always known each other. He asked about your interests, your thoughts on music, movies, and life in general that night. And you found yourself opening up more than you usually did, his genuine interest made it easy.

Then, you started seeing each other more frequently. Your encounters were never planned, but always felt serendipitous. You ran into each other at the shop center, at friends' houses, and even at the grocery store. Each meeting felt natural, unforced, but then it wasn't just for talking and sharing stories. Now, you and Joost were friends, but with benefits. Of course you didn't mind at all at first. But after some time you wasn't so sure anymore. At first it was just because of some release. But after some time, you started to feel some...things.

Then came the night of this unforgettable party. You didn't want to come here at all, but your friend, f/n, she promised it's going to be just for a few hours and that Joost is going to be here as well. Maybe, that's why you actually agreed to go here. She knew about you and Joost, and how you actually felt about him. But she promise to not say anything.

Joost was, as usual, the center of attention. But this time, at this party, it felt different. Every time your eyes met across the room, there was a spark, a silent understanding that something was shifting between you and him. You watched him laugh, dance, and engage with everyone, yet somehow, it felt like he was always aware of where you were and what you were doing, of who you were speaking with and when you looked at him.

It was like sixth sense.

It started to get hot here, or maybe it was just the alcohol that flowed through your blood. Either way, you needed some fresh air, so you excused yourself from your friend that was just as tipsy as you and you made your way out by the back door that went to the garden. There wasn't anyone, but it wasn't so surprising. Whole party was thrown inside because of the cooler weather.

Enjoying the muffled sounds of a party in the house behind you, you were startled when you felt someone's hand on your hip.

"Hey, hey, easy here. It's just me."

Joost.

"You scared me for life." Turning your head to look at him, you notice how his pupils were big.

"I'm sorry princess, I will try not to scare you away from me." You laughed it off. He was definitely a teaser. It was in his nature, to make people laugh, to forget everything, to enjoy their time with him.

"What are you doing here so alone, hm?" He whispered in the cold night and ran his hand that he had on your hip up and down. To warm you a bit. "It's cold out here."

"I know, but I needed some fresh air. I couldn't breathe in there." You said and pointed back at the house. Leaning your head on his shoulder you closed your eyes, but the drinks that your friend made you drink with her were a little bit stronger for your liking, so whenever you closed your eyes you felt the whole world spin, just like right now.

"Yeah, you're right." Joost put his chin on the top of your head after he kissed it, just as you relaxed in his hold. You always enjoyed his presence, but it wasn't just because of his personality, it was because he made you feel things that you believed that were never there. He was different, he made you feel different. Like no-one else before had. He lifted his hand from your hip and placed it on your arm, "You're cold." he said and raised his head for yours.

"It's nothing." You chuckled, "I will manage." you tried to assure him, but your skin was really ice cold.

"Yeah, in bed with a fever tomorrow morning. Come on, let's get inside." He took your hand in his and together you made your way to the house. He let you go in first, holding the door open for you like a true gentleman he is with a smile on his face. "Lady's first."

You returned his smile, never letting go of his hand. It wasn't strange for you to hold his hand and kiss here and there, but you weren't together, it made some people questioned your real relationship. But what they didn't know was that you and Joost have been sleeping with each other from time to time. And you had to admit, you were totally scared of your future with him.

He doesn't feel love. He never felt that way. You knew it because before you and him started to sleep together, you and him made a promise to not catch feelings, it's just gonna be about a sex. Nothing more, nothing less. And you knew you had crossed that line, but you couldn't tell him anything. That would ruin everything, it would have ruined you. So you swallowed your feelings and told yourself to not, ever, let or somehow show your feelings for him. Even though it hurts you.

"I need to find f/n. She's somewhere here and I need to stop her from doing something stupid." You told Joost and he actually laughed at that because he knew her and what she was capable of.

"That sounds like a good idea. I will be in the living room if you want to look for me after you find her." Joost winked at you with smug on his pretty face and left you here standing with red cheeks. No matter how many times he had flirted with you, you always gave in and let his charm affect you.

It took you some time to find f/n, but you also have found some other friends that were looking after her as well. They were leaving and told you they are taking f/n home too.

"Noo, Y/n I don't wanna go home." f/n pouted and hugged you before others basically dragged her off of you.

"You have to. I will text you in the morning, okay?"

She protested, but eventually gave in. Leaving the party and looking forward to your text when you will be leaving.

You went to the kitchen and poured yourself a drink, not so strong this time and then you started looking for another person, Joost. But he already told you where he's going to be. Making your way through bodies to the living room, you greeted some faces you recognised. Sending friendly smiles and little waves. But just as you stepped to the living room, you couldn't help the shock that went thru you.

He was sitting here with some girl. No, the girl was sitting on his lap and what was even worse, they were making out. How his left hand was running through her hair and how his other hand was on her waist, keeping her closer, just like he did before with you. All you could do was watch the scene before you.

"Y/n?" Joost's voice was barely making any sense, but he knew that was you who he was kissing right now. He was so sure of it.

"Actually I'm Mila."

"You're not Y/n? My Y/n?"

"I can be her, if that's what you want."

"You're not her?" Joost asked the girl that he assumed was you, but she pulled him back to kiss her. He wasn't complaining, but he was hoping that was you who he was kissing right now and not some random chick.

When they pulled away to breathe, Joost looked around the room and saw you standing in the back with a shocked face and how it, in a matter of seconds, turned into a pained expression. That was the real you. You weren't sitting in his lap right now.

What were you thinking?

It hurt. It all hurt so much. You really thought he felt something for you, just like you did for him. But you were wrong, so, so wrong. "Y/n?" His words were slurred. "C'mon it was just for fun, you know that right?"

Drunk words are sober thoughts.

You heard him say somewhere towards you in his now drunk state, you couldn't even properly look at him, all you could do in that moment was to turn around and leave. On your way out of the house, you passed by people that gave you this kind of sympathy look. Did they think you and him were together too? You weren't, and he made that crystal clear.

"Y/N!" He was calling for you to stop, but you didn't. "Y/n! Can you stop for a second?!"

"What!? What is it Joost!?" You turned to him, stopping in your tracks. Barely holding tears in your eyes.

"What's wrong with you?!" Joost almost shouted, but held himself back because of other people near you two.

"What is wrong with me?" You had to ask. "With me?"

"Yeah, you're acting like I fucked that girl right infront of you, and even if I did, we're not together so it doesn't matter."

"I can't believe this." You avoided eye contact with him. "I'm such an idiot." Whispering, you looked down, letting the tears freely fall.

"What? So it's mine fault?"

"No it's mine."

An awkward silence was between you two.

Joost sighed looking down and put his hands on his hips. "Look Y/n, let's just get inside, get some drinks and forget about it. It wasn't that big of a deal anyway." He insisted and took a few steps towards you, trying to reach for you, but you backed down. You turned back around and said.

"Yeah, you're right, it's not that big of a deal anyway."

With that, you made your way home.

That was two days ago, and from that time you felt like shit. You barely slept and eating food was bad too. F/n was worried about you, she insisted on talking to him, herself or you. But everytime she threatened, you told her to stop. That you're going to deal with it by yourself. She stopped after that.

Two fucking days.

Your phone was blowing with missed calls and hundreds of unread texts from Joost, but you didn't want to talk to him. Not right now. His words still hurt you. "It's not that big of deal anyway." Yes, you promised something to each other, but his words hunt you.

As you laid in your bed and re-thinking every detail of that night, soft knocking brought you out of your head. At first you didn't want to get up and answer, if it's important then they will try it later.

But the soft knocking was getting louder and more annoying. You slowly got up and made your way to the door. Ready to scream on anyone that was behind them.

"Y/n?"

That made you stop in your tracks. Joost? What was he doing here? You didn't want him near you at all. That's why you distanced everyone.

"Y/n, open the door."

His knocking stopped and you saw his shadow under the door and how he was stepping from one side to another.

"Open the door. Please."

Joost begged. And that's something you never heard from him before. Part of you wanted to let him in and hug him, but the other not at all.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry for what I said that night." You heard him say behind the door. Him still waiting for you to open to him.

"You didn't say anything wrong. Only truth." You muttered on the other side.

"Yeah, but..." He sighed and leaned his head on the door. Closing his eyes for a moment before speaking again. "You didn't deserve that."

That made you cry. He was right, you didn't deserve it like that.

"I hear you cry." He lifted his head from the door and tried to open them again. "Please don't cry."

"You made me look so fucking stupid." You cried more. "I thought...I thought that we-"

"I'm sorry."

You took the handle and slowly opened the door, letting that awkward silence spread all around you and him.

"What do you want from me?" You finally asked as your eyes were red and swollen from crying for the past two days. Just like his.

"I don't know." He admitted. "Probably everything..."

"That's a lot."

"I know I want you in my life." He began. "I'm scared that if I told you how I feel, you're going to leave me like everyone else."

"And why would I do that?"

He didn't say anything to that. Like you had caught him off of guard. But that didn't mean that you felt any better. You wouldn't admit it, but you didn't feel better.

"My heart always seems to be disappointed." You admitted quietly, letting it sink in. "Maybe it was made just to be shattered into thousands pieces."

"No, no, don't say that. It's not the truth, you don't believe that." His eyes were pleasing yours to say otherwise, but he didn't find what he was looking for in them. "Do you?"

"What if I believe in that?"

Now you were more scared of his silence than your damaged heart. Is this it? Is this the very end of yours and Joosts path?

"Are you going to say something?"

"I'm sorry." He stepped closer and opened the door fully. "I'm sorry that I hurt you, I don't know what I was doing...I was drunk a-and I know that it doesn't change anything, but I'm still so sorry and I need you to know it." He kneeled before you and hugged your waist. Trapping you in his hold.

"Joost." You didn't know what to say. Or what to do at that moment.

"I love you." He breathed out. "I don't want you to disappear from my world, because you are my world."

You stopped breathing for a moment. He loves you? Joost loves you? From all of the people he knows and ever met, he loves you?

"I need you to know how I feel." Joost admitted and held your legs tighter. "I should have said that sooner."

Bonnie probably has some dialogue lined up in the event he encounters a crying child. All relating to his own role as a Bowling coach no doubt.

He might try to comfort him with things along the lines of "You did great." "Don't worry, you'll get it next time champ." "Don't give up, you can do it!"

But if those phrases don't relate to what Gregory is upset about.. Bonnie might not know what to say. He's not intended to be the chatty type.. He might give Gregory a gentle pat on the shoulder. Maybe a "Its gonna be okay, kiddo.." Probably just subtle things like that until Freddy or Foxy show up to better help comfort him. :'(

I'm not familiar with any of the book animatronics.. though I'd like to imagine that Fazbear Entertainment was wise about the designs of the other glamrocks. It would make sense that each different location would have different themes. You know, to keep them from being same-y same-y.

What I mean by this- is while the Pizzaplex is very futuristic and space themes.. maybe other locations that have the Twisted wolf or Ella would be Ocean or Fantasy themed..?

Maybe the ocean themed place would be blue and have a lot of mermaids, pirates, boats, treasure, sea creatures, etc. The animatronics would be glittery and have long flowy designs perhaps?

Now I'm taking a break from Octonauts atm- but I do have a headcannon I can share about the Vegimals at least! :00

So typically in Octonauts, we see only 5 vegimals total. These being, (from left to right) Barrot, Codish, Grouber, Tomminow and Tunip.

But in this screenshot from.. I forget the episode, we see 3 extra vegimals. A blue one, (Halibeet) another big purple one, (Sharchini) and a little green one (Pikato)

We almost NEVER see these vegimals. So I headcannoned that the main 5 Vegimals are all chefs and rather extroverted. While the missing 3 are rather shy and are the gardeners of the group. While you can go into the kitchen and easily find and talk to the 5 vegimals.. of you go into the garden pod you'll find the missing 3 all shyly humming together and gardening. :}

I saw the post about angst in your story. I want to put a comment but mine might be just too long and this app is just not ready for it xD, so I drop it here.

For me, the angst in ur story tilts towards the darker side. It's not just sad, unhappy stuff. I don't know how to articulate it in human language (istg), but I find it remarkably balanced and just feels right. It feels fitting, somehow.

Each arc in your story unfolds at the perfect moment, revealing itself in due course (what am i talking about). Tbh, your story might be considered heavy. I said this numerous times already (maybe) but I love the world-building in it (even tho my brain needs to restart every time).

The characters' backgrounds and the reasons why they are in their current state are intriguing. Moreover, although you introduce certain angsts, what I admire is that you never dwell on them excessively. They are relatable, logical, and not exaggerated or cringe-worthy. They are in the right amounts.

It's like, the story holds multiple layers of surprises each time you unveil the answers to the readers' questions of "why." Also, the angst within goes beyond than just sadness, contain/hiding various emotions and elements of irony.

I remember how the other readers and I went crazy (for fun) with theories in the comments when it was first revealed that Cale had a connection to the Secret Kingdom. We all anticipated something light and fluffy, but oh my goodness, jahahshfhf it took a darker turn that caught us off guard in the most unexpected moment. I love that aspect, and the transitions between each arc are incredibly smooth.

I also love every one of your original characters, (wait you already knew this ajshfkh) but duh, I've never had this much love or enthusiasm for fanfic before. I have a huge crush on your art and writing. It's therapeutic for me to see and read them. Thank you for the artwork and stories, even your daily shenanigans at your office @Xwitter are entertaining to follow up. Love isn't enough to describe how fascinated I am with your work.

I like to keep the characters realistic with logical responses in any case according to their traits and their back stories and whatnot, I don't like dwelling on anything too much in the plot, sure the angst part is important but if used too much it'll ruin the story not only for readers but also for me lol, it'll feel like I'm forcing it on the characters when, logically thinking, they wouldn't stay depressed for long or behave in certain dramatic ways, based on the way their brain works and all.

And yeah, well, my fanfic was indeed meant to be simple at first you know, but I naturally turn any plot I write heavy and dark with time, and it gets worse gradually but I try to hold back and be reasonable before I mess up at some point lolol

I didn't know you find my transitions between each arc smooth, I'm really happy and thank you for letting me know, all this time I stare at my stories and ask myself "Are there even arcs? Isn't it all a mess? Does anyone notice the transition? Is there even a transition?" Then laugh at my own writing and say it is what it is and keep writing anyway while confident that I'm doing everything wrong somehow XD

And you know, when I introduced OCs in my fanfic I was very sure no one gonna care or pay attention to their parts (except maybe my close friend lol) so I'm really glad to see some readers come to love them eventually, though I think Tristan is getting most love than the rest but that's expected considering his character and his role with Roksoo and Cale lol, I expected many readers would hate his role as their father but now the majority is cheering for him xDD

About my office shenanigans, you just made me recall how my followers on Instagram used to like and anticipate my stories about my daily life at work lolol I didn't think anyone would find joy in them also on twitter/X but glad you enjoy my comical work life 🤝🏻

So I said I would offer you some of my ocs for possible ships and here I am... (haven't found sexualities on the bios so bare with me if I mess up)

For Dillon I wanted to offer Erena or Eve mainly cause Erena could go on fun adventures with him and would know well with is boundaries and Eve... is very smart and still wants to learn lots about humans...

For Dalia... either Kome or Mellow Mellow is also more art focused and gets kinda nervous around cute girls, he would be interested... while Kome has lots of stories to tell and has a love for literature which could be a nice combo.

For Domas... Carol could guide him in a better direction while giving him a good fill of praise, she is also stressed a lot so extra help be fine. Gilly might find him more entertaining than annoying... might also be pointing him in a better direction to help others

Akshaya... most of my "Strong people" might be old but... Zariyah might be a good pick... she wants to be a hero and keep people safe... and she is very patient with people so...

Lastly for Szilárd is really hard but... Dragiselle could be maybe an option.... Flynn maybe too... thoughts behind this is moreso that they are moreso been through hardships and know to deal with similar problems... and Flynn can match some drama... but this ideas are more loose

It's fun to find good interactions between OCs, so let's hope we can get something out of these 👀 And sorry it took me a while to get to it, I've been busy and tired lately, and I wanted to take a proper look to these and make sure I got it all right! It's long, so continues under the cut~

Also, about the sexualities, I don't have that in their info posts, my bad. I have talked about them in the past but I understand that would be hard to find just looking at the basic infos for them! A fast list would be: Dillon: some sort of demi-bi (it's hard for me to grasp his XD), Dalia, Domas, Oriol: bi, Yuuki: Ace, Szi: Gay (can be lesbian if I genderbend, I don't mind doing that, but always has to be the same gender as Szi), and Akshaya not sure 🤔 I'd go with demi-bi too.

Anyway, now for the actual answers!

Dillon: I think both could have good dynamics with him, for sure. But with Eve it might be more of a friendship 🤔 But Erena would definitely get along a lot with him. They have a bunch of similarities (actually, Luffy was one of my inspirations behind Dillon hahah just little things). Also, he's GREAT at swimming, so he could help her out if she ever had problems with that~ Idk, just the picture of them going to adventures together seems quite cute and fun 😌💕

Dalia: For her, I think the two you said could work. With Kome they'd have lots of fun playing chess or other board games (Dalia really likes games that you play with logic and strategy). They could also debate or Kome could tell her about her stories. Also, just in aesthetic, I think their colour palettes would look nice together 💕 And with Mellow, if he's all nervous and shy with girls, he'd have lots of fun teasing him. And she'd find him adorable hahah But they could also bond over art and, aside from her teasing, she'd be really nice and gentle with him, so maybe he'd feel more at ease/less insecure around her afte a while?

Domas: For Domas, I am leaning more towards Carol, to be fair. Gilly is cute and they seem like a fun combo for Domas haha But Carol being much more down to earth seems like a better fit for him, so it doesn't end in full chaos xD Also, Carol's motherly vibe can go along well with his want to help people too, so they'd get along. But she'll need… A LOT of patience xDD Also, the pixelated food part made me laugh, since he's a great cook. Maybe he can help her cook more… nice looking food? xD OH, and the part where she gets flustered and shy easily, Domas is all sweet and gentlemanly, so he might make her blush a lot, which would be cute 🤭 (Also, apparently Domas has a thing for people with glasses, it seems /hj)

Akshaya: Aww, Zariyah seems super cute and nice, I like her. If she goes on about wanting to be strong to help other and/or to be a hero, Akshaya would definitely like her and want to be her friend. If she's all friendly open, she'd make Akshaya blush for sure too, but she'd like it. I guess it turning to ship would depend on how the situation goes from that point 🤔 it could also end in platonic, but I can see some ship potential!

Szilárd: First about this, don't worry, Szi is a complicated guy and it's hard for me to think of relations and frienships for him sometimes too hahah So I get it. Now, for the options you gave me, I'd say I don't see Flynn as much with him 🤔 I'm not sure how I'd approach the relationshi, Szi is just so mean, he'd just scorn him I think hahahaha I'm sorry, Flynn, it's not you, it's Szi being an asshole XDDD But with Dragiselle I can see it more! Well, in this case I'd go with fem!Szi from what I told you earlier. But she's all strong and cool. Maybe they could clash a bit at first (again, Szi's fault for being like he is XD), but I can see Szi seeing the good parts she has, her strong magic, her dedication and all, and wanting to be closer. REVIEW

I loved this episode!! I thought it was amazing :D. There were a lot of great plots going on (okay right now for Eddie's I'm just confused and mad at him but that's besides the point xD it was wild so I'll count it as good because entertaining lol, it better go somewhere good though I'm also counting it for that), but Jennifer absolutely CARRIED this episode :O :D. Girl is an icon <33. And of course so is Maddie :') 🥰🥰. Henren may be committing crimes (as in they might be crimes) but we love them xD :D. Lol xD. All these idiots on this show I swear lol. But ah, I love them <3. Maddie and Chimney were not idiots this episode though to be clear they were icons <33. Anyway xD. Some really interesting plots, great storytelling all around (that's just what my brain decides to say just go with it ik it's kinda strange), and some great moments for everybody even if they weren't really in a main plot today :D. Also I'm stressing about Bobby o.o some really cool moments there too. But yeah, great all around!!

Maddie and Chimney! Y'all the FEELS they were making me feel this episode 😭😭😭🥺💔🥰. Jennifer absolutely ate, carried. She was so amazing :D. But seriously it was heartbreaking 😭😭 and then seeing Chimney support her and listen to her 🥺🥺🥺😭❤️ he is perfect <3. And they slayed so hard figuring out the abduction!! I'm so glad everybody ended up okay :'DD. They really figured that out, ate that for real 🥰🥰. Also the whole thing about the woman in the passenger seat :'(((( 😭😭😭🥺💔💔❤️. So good <333. I'm so glad they have each other <33 :'D. Also that scene with Jee-Yun at the end was absolutely adorable 😭😭❤️❤️🥺🥰. And Chim just looking on with how much he loves them in his eyes :')). Y'all I love them so much <333.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode! I thought it was super good, and the acting especially was just on point (though of course it always is). It also set up some really interesting things for next time, which, while I'm scared about, could be really cool :O xd. And the calls were great! I'm so glad the main girl from the call and her baby are doing alright <33. They went through a lot but they'll be okay :')). The moment of her seeing her again and then reuniting was just so amazing 😭😭🥺🥰❤️. But anyway, everybody did great figuring it out, and just in this episode in general :'D. Don't know what Eddie's doing though lol, though he did do well on the calls xD.

So yeah! It was amazing, I really loved this episode. Certainly a wild one though. I'm excited and nervous for the next one! This has been my review of. . .

Short of running from hollows, fighting on Edo-period streets, or cleaning up after a Grail War? XD I think that I probably subconsciously draw inspiration from personal experience for dialogue and stuff, but the only inspiration I can think that I consciously draw upon is sword technique and martial arts. That is very much deliberately based on my own experience.

P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an “architect” or a “gardener”? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the story unfold as you go?)

Lmao I’m an architect all the way. I sat and made an all-comprehensive (anime, movies, psp + ps3 + steam versions of the game) 13-page timeline for Hakuouki before I started writing for it. I also poured through the Bleach timeline and broke down my fic’s progression into months/years. Although some greenery does tend to sprout as I’m actually doing the writing; the actual dialogue might change as I’m typing, or I might get an idea for an additional scene, and at that point I’ll just garden as I go XD 

S: Any fandom tropes you can’t resist?

Lol, yes but I’m blanking on official names. Enemies to Friends to Lovers, Captain/Lieutenant or some kind of authority/supporting role, befriending the monster, training together, bookworm to battlefield badass, person A being seemingly problematic and being fixed by person B but it turns out person B is actually way more fucked up. And all that good stuff XD

T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?

Yes, so many, but more so in the way they are used rather than the tropes themselves. Basically anything that is cliche and is included just for the sake of including it, instead of it serving any purpose in terms of character development or plot, etc. I really don’t mind things being predictable, I actually love a certain amount of predictability based on tropes and character archetypes, but when it’s done just for stuff like shock value and superfluous fanservice, often at the expense of characters remaining in character, it really turns me off of a fic.

Hi so I came across your Femto punishing both Guts and Casca meta and even tho I kinda like it I found myself at odds with a part of it.

I think punishing Casca and feeling mad she picked Guts over him and considered leaving him wasn't really a consideration at all. In the thoughts he has after the weird trippy hallucination thing they put him through during the eclipse his only thoughts are about Guts. How he was the only one who made Griffith forget his dream. And when he forgot this torture happened and his body was broken.

Guts was the one he risked life for by going to save him from Zod. Guts was the one who managed to get close to him despite his attempts to keep his distance from his men. Griffith was at that point after all only human. Humans need close relationships which he was denying himself and that led to his overattachment to the one he had which caused him to end up in the situation he got tortured in. He had to blow off steam he was so upset by Guts leaving and the concept alone made his fight with Guts more erratic.

But Casca leaving isn't reflected on at all during the Eclipse. Griffith said once that a true equal was what he considered a friend and while he was talking to a royal at the time that might still be true. Griffith who was human, and despite being in denial about it, craved friendship.

An equal who didn't leave him might be something he wanted. But Femto who has thrown away his humanity doesn't want a friend he doesn't want a equal. A power play is required to prove that Guts is beneath him. He needs to disempower Guts to feel empowered. To feel that Guts isn't a equal that Guts is beneath him.

The scene where he pushes down Casca is a parallel because it is also about power but in a different way. The sequence of events is Griffith asks Guts to put on his armor he wants to be able to put it on fight again. Guts obliges excited to see Griffith recover.

Elsewhere Casca is told he will never recover enough to hold a sword again. A demon attacks them rips off Griffiths armor and mocks him and his group over how he's already broken. Afterwards Griffith hears his group come apart as they come to terms about his condition. Casca berates Guts for expecting that recovery when it not possible which Griffith also hears.

Griffith then pushes Casca down I think because Casca used to be someone he was stronger than her. It's just a desperation to show he has even a bit of the strength he used to possess.

He manages to stay in the position she doesn't try to push him off he doesn't try to do anything and just puts his effort in maintaining position. Flopping on her and groping would probably be less physical effort but I don't think that what he trying to do . His mouth is open like he's trying to say something but no words come out. She hugs him pulling him close and as he's no longer holding up his own body weight his trembling stops.

I think its supposed to contrast with Femto later and his mentality in this moment vs that one.

The first scene with Casca is desperation to show he has even a bit of the strength he used to possess. That it'd not over for him.

The second one where he attacks Casca in front of Guts is to show no one is equal to him everyone is beneath him. Guts is beneath him. In this world where Griffith reigns Guts has no power to stop anything to do anything and he wants to mock and hurt Guts. That it's his time to rule.

When Griffith is rescued his immediate reaction is to lash out attack Guts. He is mad at Guts for leaving because in his mind Guts leaving led to this. But it only led to this because Griffith cared enough about him that he would be upset at not having Guts around. Its because they were friends. So when he sees Guts crying over him that anger dissappears and he puts his hands on Guts hand in a almost comforting gesture. He can't go as far with his anger or hatred because he loves and cares too.

Which is why that first scene with Casca is only her being pinned. He wouldn't go that far because even if he doesn't see her as a equal he still gives a shit. Its why he attempts to move to her when she attacked by demons after they escape with him. Maybe he wouldn't even consider doing something like what Femto does to her.

But that caring and giving a shit is the humanity he gives up. Femto still has emotions he had feelings Griffith used to have. If he didn't making Guts feel disempowered wouldn't matter. The idea of Guts as a equal in anyway wouldn't occur. Femto is just that anger and rage he felt when he tried to strangle Guts without the caring he felt when he put his hand on Guts hand.

Casca only mattered when Griffith cared about people who he thought he was stronger than. When he sacrificed that Casca ceased to matter. She was never a target of his anger or frustration. But Guts continued to matter. Because Guts was a target of that. He wants the target of his frustration to suffer, and he knows this will make him suffer.

Just my opinion thought I'd share. Still love your meta tho!

Anyway, if I sum up your take: Griffith was out to punish Guts only and not Casca, because Guts >>> Casca in terms of significance as far as Griffith is concerned? 

Thank you for your input :) but see, I disagree, because this is exactly why I once said that...

I don’t understand why some fans somehow reduce Berserk’s plot to being about Guts vs Griffith, Casca often becoming some random secondary character. For me, no matter how you look at the series ever since the Golden Age, it just ain’t the case. :))

However, all I ever wrote was that Griffith punished both of them; I never implied that their “betrayal” amounted to the same significance for Griffith, because it’s indeed not the case.

After all, as you said, we know Guts always had a bigger impact on Griffith since the day they met...

...but, while we will never know for sure, I for one am quite convinced that if Casca (who was Griffith’s right-hand woman) was the one who had left in the same fashion as Guts, it would have triggered Griffith in a similar way. 

Because Griffith is a man of influence: he knows that and how to use such charisma on others. That’s why he totally means the words he said to Charlotte about what kind of people he would see as a friend. So he uses people’s feelings for him in a way that would serve the path to achieving his dreams. Casca herself said that, as a leader after he was gone, all she did was "try to protect the dream of someone who might not even be alive”. 

The Band of the Falcon lived and worked to help Griffith achieve his dream, because they saw him as special, since they had no achievable big dream of their own (kinda why Griffith said they’re not “friends”). 

So yeah sure, Guts’ actions would always leave a bigger impact on Griffith, as you showed he said it himself, but Casca falling in love with Guts and envisioning a future far away from Griffith’s schemes still clearly stung. 

After all, everyone in the group knew of Casca’s unrequited feelings for Griffith, meaning that Griffith obviously knew too and, instead of telling her it would never happen, he entertained the possibility so that Casca would entirely devote herself to him.

Take Judeau, as a counterexample: he too had some feelings for Casca, but he urged Guts several times to take her with him and away from the group, because he couldn’t stand her unhappiness. Griffith said nothing about her feelings, because he knew that’s how Casca would do everything for his sake. 

Still, Casca was not any random member of his Band so, when she emancipated from Griffith by falling in love with Guts, in my opinion it’s why...

...she also was on the receiving end of his jealousy. 

It’s distasteful but, otherwise, why did Femto rape Casca instead of killing her? Again, we will never know, but if Guts had left Griffith behind for a future with any other random girl, I think Femto would have just killed her in front of Guts. Raping Casca, when she used to long for Griffith’s affection, was revenge against both of them for choosing each other instead of him and his dream. 

You can see it in the way he stared at both of them so many times, coming to the realization that he was not at the center of their little trio anymore. So yeah, Guts > Casca in terms of significance since day 1 as far as Griffith is concerned, I never discussed that, but Casca was not such a random member of Griffith’s band either that her actions of emancipation would not taste bitter to him. That’s my opinion. :)

Additional points: I never said he was trying to grope her in that scene when he fell on top of her as she was changing his bandages, just that “he was trying to gauge or reenact Casca’s old devotion to him by showing some affection”.

And finally, Femto who was entirely reborn as a Godhand has no emotion left about Guts or Casca, he said it himself. Thinking he’s only anger and revenge would be confusing Femto with the Skull Knight or Guts as the Black Swordsman.

Friendly reminder that Femto is not human anymore so, while Griffith thrived on thinking that he didn’t bother with overwhelming bonds to anyone and that only his dream ever mattered, it is actually the case for Femto.

If they were to ask Sasuke for tips on a modern birthday, I’m pretty sure Sasuke would mention balloons and streamers. They managed to make poppers for Mitsuhide, and they have made those floating lanterns before. He might suggest making the lanterns colorful to make them more festive.

Obviously, cake is a must. Sure, they can come up with some interpretation of it. Didn’t they make a sushi “cake” once? But, I imagine they would try with other confectionaries available to them. Were castella cakes around back then? Perhaps Nobunaga can ask foreigners or missionaries for help.

I feel like MC got to eat her favorite foods on her birthday growing up. After spending all this time with the warlords, I imagine Masamune would know what MC likes to eat in their time period. In any case, MC loves his cooking in general, so anything is fine with her.

Ieyasu is the bearer of all secrets, and is the event planner. You would think it’d be Hideyoshi, but everyone knows he can’t keep a secret. He’s very pushy and overbearing. The warlords need someone with a calm level headed mind. Ieyasu is perfect for the job.

Mitsunari tries to help. Much to Ieyasu’s chagrin, but Mitsunari offers his own input whenever he can. While he can’t pour a cup of tea, he does assist in decorating the hall with the others.

That said, do not expect Mitsuhide for help. He will not lift a finger. On the contrary, he sits and watches.

Ranmaru offers his services as host and entertainer. As the resident idol, he practices an instrument (or two) to liven the party. It’s the closest MC will get to an actual concert.

I’m not sure what kinds of mementos the warlords would give MC. They strive to make her feel included, and she sees them as family. I imagine Hideyoshi would instruct everyone to buy MC gifts that she would like. Since she’s a seamstress, I’m sure bolts of fabric (probably something fancy) would be among her gifts aside from hairpins and kimonos. I’m sure each warlord will gift her something that suits their hobbies as well for example, Mitsunari and books or Ieyasu and medicine.

Regardless of what they come up with, MC will ultimately feel their love and appreciation for her. She’s always celebrating them. It’s her turn to be pampered for once. ;)

When did you join the IT fandom? And what got you into fandom, to begin with?

Actually 23 years ago (haha I am old XD) When I was eleven I saw the miniseries with my cousins for the first time. The horror factor wasn't that important to me or maybe I didn't see it that way. It was more like an adventure story with an unfunny and nasty clown. A group of friends who had to endure an adventure. In any case, it entertained me well, even if I was not aware of some elements like that it’s a story about growing up, friendship, love and all these issues around becoming an adult XDD Then with 13 I read the book. It was a  new experience, and I loved every single word. Over the years I talked with friends and Kingsianer (XD) about it and read it for a second and a third time. At this point I could start a list with things I don’t like about the movies, but I’d rather mention on thing I really appreciate about them: they are a good opportunity for a new generation to explore this universe. Every adaption like the book itself is a reflection of a specific decade and what is more yeah… immortal, universal and diverse than a story about growing up. It was a discussion with a dear friend about book to movie adaptions some weeks ago that probably brought me back to this fandom

Nevertheless there are things from the book I would have loved to see in the movies. Let’s be honest at this point if you want to adapt such a brick of a book you simply have to cut some elements. You can’t please everyone

What are your favorite ships, or characters, if any, and why? What do they mean to you?

Ships:

Stanpat - orz q__q they are such a sweet couple and it is so heartbreaking, they never ever had a real chance to become parents. They would have been excellent parents. Imagine them on a beautiful summer day. They have a picnic with their children and Stan would watch birds with them. He would tell them all about the birds and keeps a journal about their observations with his kids

Reddie - Despite the constant teasing their realtionship seems like a natural, casual und easy thing from the start. And Eddie likes the nicknames. These secret names are like another identity. He can be someone else. They take care of each other. Their relationship is a deeper friendship that runs mostly on an emotional level and is sometimes expressed through small, physical gestures. The chemistry between them is indescribable. It is cute when 90s Eddie immediately starts to giggle as soon as Richie makes a dumb joke at their reunion. And thing about the little moments when Richie pokes Eddie and calls him cute. I am won’t quoting this one passage in the book that leaves much room for speculations, but there is no doubt their special bond is official. In any case, the decision to make Richie gay in the movies gave the ship another push. I don’t complain. I love it. Though I still think Eddie would have been a better option. There are already some scenes in the book which are like an invitation to speculate about his sexualityTheir chemistry is very obvious and believe me, there is nothing I would more appreciate than a happy end for them Q__Q

This is one of sweetest things I have ever read in a book and that is all I need to explain why I love this ship.

Fav, Characters:  Hmm when I read „IT“ for the first time I had a crush on Bill. He ist the born leader and in my childish, pre-teen way found his stuttering cute. There is something about him that cast a spell on you. It is perfectly understandable that he was a role model and an inspiration for his friends – especially for Eddie. In my personal opinion book!Bill ist the best Bill.

Richie - I love this chaotic megane dude. He is this silly type who use jokes, pranks to protect himself. His voices are like safe heaven (the same goes for Bill, whose stuttering almost disappears, when he pretends tob e someone else). He hides himself and his insecurities behind them. It is a shame that he doesn’t know what an impact he had on his friends. Richie seems to never ever shut up and sometimes his trashmouth is still talking, when he better should be quite. And I am famous to fall for funny characters. He can lights up the mood immediately ( and OMG…. I love Harry Anderson in the miniseries. A real entertainer, BUT BILL HADER…. Bill Hader…just to make it clear BILL HADER  did such an amazing job. He rocked the movie and I still think, not just because I love this dude since over a decade, without him… the movie wouldn’t  have been so entertaining)

Eddie - He is in these abusive relationships. First with his mother, who keeps him small and makes him believe that he is weak. At the end her own fears of beeing left behind prevented her son from becoming a self-confident adult. Eddie always thought he is weak and fragile. Although he knows that he doesn’t need all this medication, his childhood experience were the reason for his coping-behavior as an adult – he still uses his inhaler. He married a woman who is like his mother. Mike's call was something of a turning point. Until this call Eddie could not overcome his fears and had to face them again as an adult. I can remember. While reading the book there were several moments of silence and I stopped reading and thought: poor Eddie.

Ultimately, his story is about a hero who surpasses himself, overcomes his fears and by sacrifice himself he protects what is most important to him - his friends. It just touched me. Eddie gave his life for his friends and I think you can say he's my favorite character. His death may be a tragedy, but it was necessary for his character arc. My theory is that Eddie represents someone who has lost track in his life and prefer to stick on old but unhealthy patterns.It is almost like Eddie stands for missed opportunities, but at the same time it is never to late to change something. He is a hero. There are so many things I would like to talk about, therefore I should start an own thread XDDD

Oh and Bev - I could always identify with her (not bc of abuse or domestic violence. My childhood was amazing). She is the only girl around the losers and I was the only girl in my  favourite clique too. We spent most of our time outside  - it was great. Of course I had other friends (female) as well, but with my boys… it was always special).. As you know as an adult she falls back in old patterns. Her husband is tyrannical man like her father. Again Mike’s call is a turning point.  Maybe the Benverly arc is the most satisfying. I was… I am very happy that Bev got her happy end.

Last but no least - I like Ben, Mike and Stan too. They have all there unique character treats and you sympathize with all of them. The Loser’s club is bunch of adorable idiots who just doing their best to become adults. I think it is normal that their friendship feels more intimate in the book – I highly recommand the book.

Have you ever participated in a fannish event (ie. IT Week, a fic Big Bang) or applied to be a part of a fanzine? If so, which ones, and can you please link them?

Oh… unfortunately I am not feelin‘ very confident about my own artworks. Sometims I have the feeling I am not creative enough and that my ideas are more or less boring. Nothing special ID Totally dumb – I know. As I mentioned before I came back lately to the fandom… I guess I missed many amazing IT weeks. I participated in some weeks/mainly shipweeks in other fandoms (Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku, FFXV) If I find an interesting annoucement I can imagine to participate in the future ; )

Without any form of bashing or lashing out, what is something you feel this fandom is missing?

In general… the fandom is really friendly – I hope so. Lately I have seen some salty comments on different stuff, topics… and well.. I have just an advice: life can be exhausting enough and time is always running. Don’t spend time on things you don’t like. Discussions can esclate quickly and worde can hurt too. So, just thing about before you jump in.

10 Signs You’re Reading a Dyna Fic

1. It’s long

As much as it irks me sometimes, I tend to write lengthy stuff. If it’s a one-shot, it’s long. If it’s a chaptered fic, you can bet I’ll pass the 100,000 word mark before the second act is even over.

Why does that happen? I have no idea >.< My story ideas always just tend to blow up, even if I start with the simplest concept, like “Wouldn’t it be cool if Character X had a job as Y?” My brain always likes adding more details, whether it’s for worldbuilding or for new situations the characters can get into.

2. It has an ensemble cast

As much as I admire stories with a single compelling protagonist, what I like even more is situating a protagonist into a web of other characters and defining their story by how those other characters’ on- or offscreen journeys interact with theirs.

In that sense I conceive some (but not all) of my stories as glimpses into a little community, where all main and side characters are affected by each other and have some sort of arc to complete, however small.

3. It hasn’t been updated in a while

I don’t like doing this either, I swear! But it’s a given fact that ever since I started college and entered a writing-heavy field, my energy for writing stories has thinned out. In 99% of cases it’s most definitely not because I’ve lost interest or given up. Rather it’s everything to do with my energy levels. Usually I have no idea when I’m going to be both free and in a mental capacity to write, so I don’t bother making a writing schedule I can’t keep. I just snatch those moments when they come by and start typing, first getting down the main ideas and leaving the editing and polishing for later.

Then of course I have to wait till that ‘later’ comes around... *shifty eyes*

4. Sentences are long and have semicolons

This is more the case for my old writing, but for a long time I had a tendency to write really complex sentences. Now when I look back on them, my head explodes and I manage to find dozens of ways of making things simpler and more pleasant to read.

I also use semicolons. I am sorry xDD Academic writing does that to you. Honestly I have no idea what else to do? Make the sentences shorter? Or just use a comma???

5. It’s biggest theme is either friendship or found family

Because those two are my absolute favorites :3 Even in my romance-focused stories, I like to describe how the characters’ interpersonal relationships change as a whole and how their experiences led them to a new sense of belonging. Stories about a character choosing to surround themselves with people who are better for them, or having to move on from people who aren’t, or deal with broken family/friendship bonds, are some of the most compelling to me because they reflect very real aspects of life.

6. Worldbuilding goes down to the mundane details

I love, love, love describing boring things. How the main character had to apply for their job, how they pay the bills, how a particular city is run. If it’s a story involving magic or spirituality, you can bet I’ll go into the nitty-gritty details of how that magic works, or at least how a particular user experiences it. Those details are like glitter to me - don’t go over the top, but sprinkle them here and there and your world’s logic and structure will shine.

7. It has a happy ending, or at least a bittersweet one

I don’t like ripping readers’ hearts in two ;; It’s been done to me enough! I might start out a draft with a character tragically dying, then eventually figure out a way for them to live and for the story to be five times better for it.

Same with endings. I might be cynical when I start a story and go ‘Yeah, this’ll end with them losing everything and having to realize how wrong they were, ha-ha’, then in the final draft I’ll inject a teensy bit more hope into it. Basically I always want to make sure that my main characters are in a better position at the end of the story than at the beginning. And however that ‘better’ might look, I’ll write it so that the reader can agree and believe that this is the case.

8. It has an outrageous premise

I write for fun, so... why not have fun? I’ll often get an idea that seems totally crazy to me, but it’s either so funny or entertaining that I have to write it. So I’ll take it absolutely seriously and find a way to make it work.

9. Characters feel their limits

A story’s no fun without conflict, and I love describing exactly what gets in my characters’ way and how. If I’m writing a character who’s a professional fighter, I’ll put them in a situation where they’re either partially incapacitated or up against someone who’s just as good as they are. I’ll have a stoic, self-reliant character who sails for a living suffer from debilitating seasickness, which makes for embarrassing situations and necessitates the help of his friend. I’ll have characters experience things that upset them and explore the ramifications of that event all throughout the story.

Which brings me to my last point...

10. Cause-and-effect stretch from the very first page to the last

If a character sprains their ankle when falling down in the first chapter, it will still be hurting in the second. Maybe even the third. Then in the second act, I’ll show them being extra observant of their surroundings and making sure they don’t fall again. Then in the final act they’ll defeat the villain by making them fall down in the exact same way. (Okay, this is oversimplifying, but you get my point).

Basically I’m a firm believer in Chekhov’s Gun. Only it’s not just one gun, it’s as many objects/events from the early point of the story as possible.

1: Star Wars: The Clone Wars ( 2008-2020 ) This show. This fucking show. I used to watch it for awhile when I was a kid, and damn. I only ever really liked Anakin and Rex in the beginning, because Anakin was, well, Anakin, and Rex was handsome Captain wearing blue ( thanks, Captain America, for starting that type for me LMAOOOO ). But after a recent rewatch some time last year, before the final season came out?

I was hooked. I have so many favourites. Rex. Cody. Jesse. Fives. Echo. Plo Koon. Shaak Ti. This show has become a particular favourite of mine... Season 7′s animation didn’t have to go that hard, but it did, and we have to thank them for that

also the first show I’ve ever watched to end on an extremely low, hopeless note! and the only piece of SW media to date that ends in such a manner

2: The Mandalorian ( 2019— )

This show is so good???? It’s entertaining as hell, the music goes hard, and fuck do I love Din Djarin lmao I’m not sure I have much I wanna say here, because there’s only two seasons, one of which is still in progress, and so I don’t want to spoil anything

But all I’m going to say is that if you like shows that focus on gruff, lonely men adopting kids through sheer urge to keep kid safe, must keep this bean safe, this bean is MINE NOW .... well, I think it’ll be the show for you XD

3: The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes ( 2010—2012 )

Another show from my childhood!

It’s entertaining, it’s funny, and what keeps it interesting is how the Avengers’ roster keeps shifting, while keeping a few core members. It’s not even per-season, either ( since there’s only two seasons ); it seems to be per episode. I enjoyed the way each character was portrayed, and it’s one I’d simply go back to for old time’s sake.

also, to this day, it still kills me to know that Steve Downes, the man who breathes life into the Master Chief.... voices Star Lord in this show XDD

4: Agent Carter ( 2015—2016 )

A really good series exploring the early history of SHIELD, back when it was still the SSR. Set in the aftermath of the end of WWII, it goes deeper into the character of Peggy Carter, including a little look into why she is who she is... As well as showing off that she’s a badass, competent, intelligent woman, even with the flaws that every human being displays — because nobody’s perfect!

It’s unfortunate that it never got any more seasons... But, despite that, it’s definitely one worth watching again and again!

(note: "Rurouni-hon Kumamoto e" was a book about Takeru doing a trip in Kumamoto, promoting places especially those which were affected by Kumamoto earthquake. A portion of the sales were donated to support Kumamoto recovery)

145. You said in the past that you couldn't sleep for a long time, how is it now? Hm it's complex but I think my internal body clock feels off

146. When telling our thoughts about your movies/dramas, do you have any preferred ways that makes you happy? When you shared it in the internet

147. My son is telling me that he wants to be a voice actor and wants to go to a vocational school. As a parent, should I support him? Did Takeru-kun get your parents' support when you want to be an actor? My parents had no objection at that time. It didn't cost me any money. By the way, do professional voice actors learn in vocational schools? I support him to become a voice actor, but I'm not sure if it's the right decision to enroll in a vocational school to become a voice actor.

148. Among all the places you've visited during your work or private trips, do you have any recommendation for us? Salar de Uyuni (note: he went to this place for X photobook)

149. When you watch a movie, do you prefer to read the original story first or straight to the movie? If I want to enjoy the movie, I'd watch the movie first. If I want to enjoy the book, I'd read the book first.

whats your favourite character from endeavour and why?

Thank you so much for asking! :D

Must be Peter Jakes, for aesthetic reasons (= I have a huge crush on him), and the fact that he can be many many things all at once - a mood, a witty and funny side character that keeps me entertained, an incredibly annoying rival for Morse, a friend who only got to be that for a small while, someone with a tragic backstory but also a happy ending. My heart melts when I think of him, and that’s why I love writing about him as well.

My other faves are Morse (he’s good for projecting in fanfic hrdjkgsjfhgbfhj and he’s also lovely ok) and Ludo & Violetta (definitely more the fanon than the canon). I can’t deny that aesthetic appreciation isn’t playing a large part in my preferences... XDD

3. Delirium

Whumptober Day 3! Delirium. I like this one! I ended up making it super fluffy, though XDD

Summary: Krel’s caught a human illness and is a little delirius- he’s become child-like during the few minutes Aja discovers he’s sick and takes care of him.

“Krel!” Aja exclaimed, knocking loudly on her brother’s door. She shifted her weight onto her right foot and brushed a strand of blonde hair out of her face. She huffed impatiently and waited a moment for a response she didn’t get.

“Krel, come one! We’ll be late for school!” She pounded on his door again and listened expectantly. When no answer came, she grabbed the doorknob and threw the door open. 

“Krel! Are you even-” She cut herself off, having caught sight of Krel. He was curled into a ball on his bed, facing away from Aja. 

“Krel?” She walked around the foot of his bed, leaning over to see his face, and furrowed her brow in concern. Getting closer she realized he was shivering and had his eyes shut tight in discomfort. She knelt down in front of him and reached over to run her thumb over his cheek.

The cool sensation on his cheek startled Krel and he opened his eyes. “Aja?” he questioned, voice raspy. As soon as the words left his mouth he was consumed by a fit of coughing that rattled his entire frame. His complexion was far more white than blue and that worried Aja. 

“You are not well,” she said, resting a hand on his shoulder.

Krel pulled a hand out from underneath the edge of his blanket and made a dismissive motion with it. “I’m fine,” he insisted. He seemed briefly perplexed by the nasally quality to his voice and took a moment to sniffle, a shiver traveling down his spine as he did so. “I just need to warm up first…”

Aja sighed and blinked. “Come on, Krel,” she said, grabbing his arm and pulling him away from the bed. He automatically followed her movements and stood up, allowing her to pull him by the arm into the hallway.

“Where are we going?” he asked, sounding genuinely curious. Aja quirked a brow at him.

“To the kitchen,” she answered. She glanced back at him, confused slightly by his question. Krel was walking mindlessly with her and looking around at everything in the hallway as though he’d never seen any of it before. Aja turned to face forward again, momentarily brushing it off as she strode into the kitchen. “Steve told me there was a… ‘bug’, going around, and gave me a list of things to help in case either of us caught it.”

Krel came to a stop and gave Aja a skeptical look. “But I thought we already took care of the skelteg infestation,” he said, looking very much like he didn’t want to do such a thing a second time. Aja was caught off guard by the statement.

“The skel- no, Krel,” she said, shaking her head exasperatedly, “he said it means human illness.”

Krel appeared even more confused by this. “But we are not human,” he said, gesturing grandly to himself with all four arms. “I don’t have any illness.” He said this as though it made perfect sense.

“Your transductions cause you to become more vulnerable to human weaknesses,” Mother cut in. Krel’s eyes widened and he looked directly up, seemingly trying to find the source of the voice. Aja scoffed, amused, and turned around to grab a cup. “I am afraid you are no less immune to human disease, for the time being, than any other human.”

“But we are not human,” Krel argued, throwing two arms up, “and I don’t have my transduction on.”

Aja shook her head and sighed lightly. She patted Krel on the shoulder, suddenly realizing how odd it felt to be shorter than her little brother, and held out the cup she’d had. “Here, Krel, drink this,” she instructed him.

“What is it?” he asked, taking it from her and peering into it with one eye closed.

“It’s water,” she answered. Krel blinked a couple of times and shrugged.

“Oh. Thank you.” After a moment more of staring into the clear liquid, he lifted the cup to his lips and took a long drink, visibly relaxing as he did so. He downed the entire glass and came back panting for air as he finished. “This is very nice,” he said breathlessly, appreciatively.

“It’s supposed to be,” Aja said, laughing a little. “Steve said it helps with-”

“What does Steve know?” Krel said suddenly, jabbing a finger at Aja and turning his head inquisitively. He narrowed his eyes at her as though he were suspicious of every word she’d just spoken. “Why is it always Steve?”

Aja blinked in surprise and opened her mouth, gaping for a moment while she struggled to come up with an answer. “Because I talk to him most?” she said, though it came out as more of a question. Then, after a breath, “He’s the only one who knows that we aren’t human; he thought we might find it helpful to know.”

Krel slumped back a little and looked down as though he were thinking very hard. “Oh,” he said finally, having put the pieces together. “That was nice of him.” He put his cup down on the counter beside him and leaned forward suddenly, startling Aja. He rested his head on her shoulder and sighed, closing his eyes.

“Krel?” she questioned, reaching her hand up to pat him lightly on the back. She was again reminded of how strange it was that he was taller than her while her transduction was activated.

“This room is tired,” Krel said lazily, turning his head so it fit a little better into the niche at the crook of Aja’s neck. Aja smiled lightly and gave him a brief hug before pushing at his shoulders to get him standing up again.

“I think you are tired, little brother,” she said amusedly, though she gave him a sympathetic smile. “You should go back to bed.” Krel gave her an incredulous look.

“No, I should not,” he declared, standing up and puffing out his chest ever so slightly. “I told miss Janeth I would- I would-” He paused, looking mildly horrified at himself as he racked his brain. “What did I tell her I would do?” he said very quietly, putting a hand up to tangle his fingers in his hair. “I was- Um-”

Aja suppressed a laugh. “I think Miss Janeth will understand, Krel,” she said, putting a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

“Nuh-uh,” Krel insisted. “She would understand nothing of Akiridion biology.”

“That’s…” Aja trailed off, bemused. “That’s beside the point, Krel. You’re not going to school.”

Krel practically deflated at that and gave her a puppy-dog look. “Ajaaa,” he whined, bringing his hands up to fiddle with his fingers.

Aja shook her head again, setting a “no arguments” look on her face that she’d learned from Queen Coranda. “Come on,” she said, grabbing Krel’s arm again and pulling him back out to the hallway and toward his room. “I can just go to school by myself. This way you can rest.”

Krel remained silent for a moment, and then, in a very small voice, said, “You’re leaving me alone?”

Aja paused outside his bedroom door and looked at him, taking in his complete and utter look of abandonment. 

“Yes?” she said after a moment, watching him nervously. Krel’s expression fell and his shoulders slumped. He looked down at the ground and frowned.

“Oh.”

Aja would normally have felt bad, but she had to admit that at this point, Krel’s delirium was beginning to grow on her. She found his pout to be both amusing and adorable. “Do you want me to stay here?” she asked him after a moment, leaning over and looking at him.

Krel’s eyes instantly lit up and he looked up at her. “Yeah,” he said bluntly. He smiled at her and watched a smug grin tug at her lips, then suddenly changed his mind. “I mean, no! I don’t need company. I can do it.”

Aja’s expression grew and she gave him an entertained look. “Do what?” she asked him, listening expectantly. Krel blinked at her and then put a hand up to his chin in thought, apparently stumped. Aja giggled and pushed his bedroom door open, pulling him in through the doorway.

“I don’t know,” he finally answered. “I think I have to fix something.”

Aja sighed fondly. “Not today,” she told him, bringing him around the foot of his bed and back to the spot she’d pulled him from.

“Why not?” Krel inquired genuinely

“You’re sick today,” Aja said, pointing at him. Krel looked down at himself and apparently found no evidence of sickness.

“No, I’m not,” he said, sounding confident in that verdict. “I’m just tired.” He yawned as though on cue and swayed a little in Aja’s direction. Aja caught him and held him up long enough for him to register where he was. “Oh. My bed.” 

Aja nearly busted out laughing. “You can go to sleep, if you want,” she told Krel.

In that moment, Krel looked very tired. His eyelids dropped and a shiver coursed through his body again. “Okay,” he said, not bothering to make any other comment. With no further word, he all but fell onto his bed and pulled the covers over himself, burrowing himself deeper into the mass of pillows. Aja smiled fondly down at him, resolving in her mind not to go to school so she could stay here and keep an eye on him. 

“I’ll just go to my room, so I’ll be here when you wake up,” she reassured him. Krel glanced up at her from his spot and nodded. “Maybe I can call Steve, he’ll know how to treat this illness,” she mused. She turned around and made her way toward to door.

“Aja!” Krel called after her, sitting back up in his bed. Aja turned back around to face him, inquiring silently. 

“Don’t leave me,” he pleaded.

Aja smiled at him gently and turned back toward his bed. She strode over silently and sat down on the corner of it. “I won’t go anywhere, I promise.”

“Oh good!” Krel heaved a sigh of relief and fell back onto his pillows, looking infinitely more comfortable knowing she was there. “Goodnight,” he stated firmly, shutting his eyes.

“Krel, it’s still morning.”

“No,” Krel decided, pulling the covers up to his chin.

Aja grinned to herself, humming amusedly and deciding just to accept it.

“Goodnight, Krel.”
