Putting a horse head on a bike was harder than I thought it would... but for the literal first time drawing one, I think I did alright

Didn’t even plan this but I finished all my silli HTF designs today! Woah, the whole main cast!! In time for spooky day!! These are technically for an au I’m workin on so I’m gonna yap a lil about that under a cut lol.

So like TLDR the silly au is about a little documentary crew going to Treetown to figure out what the fuck is up with that place. Originally it was just to see why the population was so low compared to like how happy all the citizens there seemed with their life but like then they find out that everyone there kinda just dies and respawns all the time so uh now they’re interviewing everyone to see what’s up with that. And all the main cast get an interview!!! Everyone gets a moment in the spotlight! Yay!! But yeah there’s a lotta character details that are at least a lil changed from canon to fit at least my tastes in character writing, uh some more than others (*cough cough Flippy*). But yeah! That’s the basic premise, if anyone’s interested please ask me silly lil questions about the characters or my design decisions or worldbuilding or like even the stupid critters dying show in general, I’m a yapper, I like yapping <33333 Okay thanks to anyone who read this big ramble, your gift is a messy little height chart I threw together yaaaaay!!!!!

Ok ok ok...

Well, there are a couple little things I guess as far as 'deleted' scenes.

I was originally planning on having more heroes in the overcity alongside Scar and then having several other undercity vigilantes and really leaning into that concept. For example Cleo was going to be an older undercity vigilante who worked in the overcity and was helping Grian out as a mentor-type. There was also plans to have guy-in-the-chair Doc, and have him and Cleo be the two people who raised the avian trio. Alongside that, Pearl, Jimmy, Bdubs, and others were going to be vigilantes as well with various gimmicks/power sets.

But then as I was writing I realized I wanted to expand the AU, so I decided to lean more heavily into the idea of having various pairings that all had their own storylines. First up was Flower Husbands, and as I was considering them I decided on the route I ended up taking, with Grian being the only vigilante and having a support network behind him in the form of Pearl and Jimmy. Then it just sorta spiraled. 😆

As for other rambling about stuff I deleted/changed, I've always shipped Doctho but it's kind of a rarepair so I wasn't originally going to include it. Like I said, I was originally going to have Doc and Cleo be the ones who raised the avian trio, with Bdubs and Tango in that mix. The more I thought about it though, I decided that I wanted to have Doctho be the parental figures for the avian trio!

For Doctho, I originally was just planning to drop them as sort of a background thing and not really give them much attention. Just that they were the parental figures for the avian trio. But then people started saying in comments how much they loved Doctho in this AU and that they wanted to see the worldbuilding expand, and learn more about the undercity and it's history, and I thought the best way to do that would be through Doc and Etho and their history together!

And so we got 'Bleeding Sweetheart' and that was really when the ball started rolling on having this AU have an actual plot that is being driven forward by the characters instead of it just being a world for all these characters to exist in. Let me be clear, TTSBC will always be a character driven narrative. If anything is happening, it's for the sake of driving their relationships, both romantically and for the found families we've met, such as the Oddball Family, Cleo and Bdubs, and the Empires family whom we are getting to know right now in 'Blessing in Disguise'!

Anything else to share...I dunno, there's a ton of stuff in this AU. What I have posted so far isn't even half of it which is kinda ridiculous, huh? Theres lots I have planned for the AU! I know right now Traveling Thieves is getting a lot of my attention because of Febuwhump, but I'm really excited to get back to working on TTSBC and continuing it forward! Zedango is one ship I'm really excited to show off, I have a plan for them that I think is really interesting and unique. Not to mention Nature Wives, I haven't forgotten about them, either! So yeah, I guess the conclusion to this ramble is please stick around! I wanna share a whole bunch more of the AU with everyone!

HELLO and thank you @potatos-are-best for taking my bait and encouraging me to talk about my ideas because I've been thinking about them on and off for like a year or so now

So. I think a lot about this game and specifically its worldbuilding, and my ideas revolve a lot around one thing:

Warframe is a game that is set up with one protagonist: You. All these cool interesting things happen To You specifically and You are the one who gets the cool rewards and is trusted by everyone.

But if You are the one with all the plot, then what's everyone else doing?

If there's theoretically somewhere between thousands to millions of Tenno in canon, what happens when eight of them show up to a distress call? What happens if four of them get involved in a quest? What if Ballas was confronted with twenty tenno that he had to throw into the void?? What if they DON'T all get thrown into the void? how does this change things?

And if so much knowledge from Orokin times has been lost, then what does Tenno culture look like now when all these young people become found and have chances to communicate again? What is New Tenno Culture?

I call it the Many Tenno Theory, or tentatively the Many Tenno AU. It's about the same as the lore of the game, but there's more variety in things, especially in quest stuff, because there's a lot of tenno all potentially able to get involved.

The only thing I have as NOT adapted for Many Tenno so far is Umbra, but I think that makes it more interesting. One Tenno gets Umbra, and goes through the majority of the Sacrifice, basically because he was the first one there. So like I have one Tenno who acts like he's The Protagonist, but he's not actually the protagonist of the story. Because it's about everyone else and multiple people who live different lives and how every Tenno has different experiences but they all live through these cornerstone events- second dream, the sacrifice, the new war- and how the story changes if different Tenno make different decisions.

I have.... fffffive? main Tenno characters I've got some fun in depth ideas for and a couple secondary characters but I imagine I'd make up a lot of casual characters for actually writing this because to me that's half the fun. And I don't have as much about their drifters yet but Duviri is another interesting can of worms that I've been thinking about.

Like, Duviri is very much set up around The Drifter being the one suffering the loop, and everyone else they knew is gone/somewhere else/mysteriously disappeared and they're taking on Dominus Thrax alone. But what if they're not totally alone? Where are the other Drifters? I've been playing with the idea of potentially the Drifters like, one person gets to play The Drifter at a time in a given loop, and the others are playing the roles of the Duvirians, or potentially multiple loops going on at the same time but sometimes they manage to sense each other in some way. They know others are Somewhere, they just can't access them much. But I think it'd also be interesting for the Drifters to be able to interact with each other somewhat, but not in the same way Tenno do with each other. So I'm still sort of playing around with that for What Happens In Duviri but I know there's an interesting answer there. What if they leave notes for each other in their loops? What if they work together to get one of them on the throne to free them all? What if they see the face of their friend behind a mask and know that they're not fully there because they're caught by the Storybook? How does this effect their relationships after they get out? I have a lot of thoughts, there's a lot of potential there for telling an interesting story.

That would also open the possibility of Drifters having different relationships between themselves than the Tenno do, and I think that could lead to some interesting dynamics.

I also like thinking a lot about like, Tenno creating a culture. Some people try to find out what Old Tenno Culture was like and recreate it, some people don't want to do that because that was heavily influenced by the Orokin, it would just be acting like their lapdogs again. People make clans and make little bases on planets, people hang out at relays and outside of Cetus and try to dig up the old forgotten secrets of the system before the Orokin rose to power. They align with different syndicates and adopt their philosophies, or don't. What kind of culture do they have? Do you think some clans get together in Orb Vallis for K-Drive rallies? For fun?? Do you think they do deep sea diving on Uranus to dig up old relics? How do you think the Tenno's personalities change after they've been awake for years and they get used to being People again? How do you think they have fun???

There's a lot to expand on here. I might start by describing some of my characters before I get into anything too specific but I've had a lot of ideas over time on some interesting events and ways to do things so if you have any questions I'd love to hear and answer them.

hello again!! yes, this would have been from their high school graduation in 2022 — max and will are likely wearing nyu tshirts in the photo, just as a symbol of what university they’ll be going to! that’s a pretty common thing in america i would say! i think that they just ended up on opposite ends of the photo, which is why they’re flanking the rest of the party, if that makes sense!

omg welcome to the world of squishmallows! definitely one of the quirks about will that we used to modernize him, as obviously on the show he’s gnc and seen as sensitive and not manly, so to me having stuffed animals (and being unashamed of that) is a good way to bring those traits into a modern au. i don’t think he really got any weird responses from any of his friends, since nyc is one of the most progressive places in the us and soft toys shouldn’t be defined by gender/age anyway, but if anyone said anything mean i’m sure he would just try not to associate w them 🤍

🥩💖 Hello‼️ I’m a 23yo trans dude looking for 18+ writers for some LONG TERM dead dove/super dark fandom roleplays, specifically Invincible, The Boys, and Cookie Run.

I tend to trans some dude’s genders, which is nonnegotiable!

I really want to have gore, cannibalism, eroguro + snuff, and power imbalances in the roleplay, but obviously, I can adjust accordingly (only regular gore is nonnegotiable for me, sorry). Other things I dig are yandere (although I heavily prefer that the characters are both crazy for each other), dubcon and noncon. All can be discussed later.

I am semi to advanced lit, and I would like my partners to be around the same range. Quality over quantity for me! ALSO, it’s okay if it takes weeks or even months for a partner to reply, as I still will be interested even in their absence. I just need a heads up first.

If you don’t care for the roleplay anymore or lost your muse or something else, I would heavily appreciate it if you’d tell me before leaving. Communication is key.

Smut is a must, but don’t let that think that it will be the only thing happening in the roleplay. I LOVE narratively driven stories, and I write my replies as such (roleplaying multiple characters in a scene is second nature to me and I really don’t mind it, so don’t feel too pressured to mirror me there). For the plots I have in mind, most will have several story arcs, and usually an end goal, but this can all be talked about and discussed!

I prefer wacky AUs to canon divergence, as I love worldbuilding and seeing where everyone would fit inside it. Canon divergence isn’t completely off the table though; I just have a preference. I am in LOVE with the concept of cakeverse and I really want to add those types of elements into the rp, though!

OOC chatter is a MUST, though. I LOVE talking about the rp and how it’s going. I may even draw some stuff too if I’m enjoying it a lot (for some pairings here I will draw ideas/concepts if I think it will help get whatever point across). I want to make friends, not just roleplay like it’s a job.

Now, onto the pairings - highlighted characters are the ones I prefer to muse and italicized characters take higher priority than those that aren’t. If they are both highlighted, then I’m comfortable with either or (some of my top/bot dynamics are not fixed, but my dom/sub dynamics are, just a heads up).

•This is probably one of the few times where I prefer standard yandere dynamics to knife romance or mutual yandere shenanigans. Milk Cookie being absolutely obsessed with and overprotective of his prince.. he’s chasing after him in the pancake tower, trying to reunite with him, maybe. (Also, I’ve been brainstorming a silly superhero au with them and how Dark Choco was once a hero turned evil due to corruption, and Milk is trying to save him/bring him back by any means necessary).

Happy Halloween, all! I bring some exciting news for my fellow League of Legends fandomers:

As of today, the ezko ship (Ezreal x Ekko) has over 100 fanfics posted on AO3!

Ik this is a silly thing to get excited over, but I couldn’t be happier about the attention that my favorite ship is getting. I thought I’d take this chance to shoutout/recommend some of my favorite fics (I tried to pick just one favorite, but was tied between these 5):

First Fic I Ever Read with Ezko in It: The Years Nearly Forgotten by albawrites (Rated M for violence, but imo this one fic - not the rest of its series - could safely be rated T.)

This fic is part of a longer series called On the Way to Piltover which is a canon-compliant Twisted Fate x Graves story with a friends(?)-with-benefits to lovers arc. Ezko makes a notable, if short appearance, but their dynamic is adorable - this fic, accompanied by Michael Yichao’s “Out of Time” (the Riot-sponsored Pulsefire ezko short story) was what first got me interested in what has since become my OTP.

First Ezko-Centric Fic I Really Loved: Paradox Rebound: First Paradox by ArinieKat (rated M for sexual content)

If you read any ezko fanfic, you’re definitely familiar with ArinieKat because they’ve single-handedly written like 10% of all the ezko content on the site. This fic of theirs really stood out to me because of its beautiful angst - it follows Pulsefire Ezreal as he ends up in a timeline where he married Ekko, then died, leaving Pulsefire Ekko widowed until he shows up. A few months ago I outlined a Pulsefire ezko angst fic idea that I had on here, and a lot of the inspiration for it came from this particular fic. It’s funny, it’s emotional, and while Years Nearly Forgotten and Out of Time made me think “huh, that ship’s kinda cute”, it was reading this fic that truly got me hooked on ezko.

Favorite AU Ezko Fic/Favorite Fic with Artwork: Underneath Your Silver Screen by VeryNoodleMan aka @satans--waifu (rated E)

1960’s Hollywood AU Ezko? Let’s just say I’m obsessed. Not to mention the absolutely gorgeous movie-poster-style artwork on the author’s tumblr. Even though this fic is on indefinite hiatus, it’s definitely worth checking out the first few chapters: the research and worldbuilding that went into them is really impressive. Being able to read your favorite ship in an entirely new context is like rediscovering and falling in love with their dynamic all over again <3

Current Most-Kudosed Ezko Fic: Blondie and the Beat by Mechanical_Hanz (rated T)

As someone who typically filters by kudos, I’ve grown used to seeing this fic at the top, and with good reason: for a highschool AU where Ezreal, Ekko, Lux and Jinx struggle to pursue queer relationships in a homophobic society, this fic is surprisingly funny and upbeat. While updates have not been super consistent, it has been a cute fic to follow over the past year or so, and it’s done a great job of balancing ezko with lightcannon without shoving either ship into the background for too long (a complaint I have with lots of other fics tagged with both lc and ezko).

Favorite Ezko One-Shot: (Loosely) Holding You by Mechanical_Hanz (rated T)

If I’m ever looking to reread something short and sweet for ezko, this is my go-to fic. It’s set in the Arcane universe, where Ezreal and Ekko are… acquaintances? Friends? Until one day Ezreal ends up spending the night with Ekko (not sexually) and the two end up together. The banter is really on-point, and Ekko’s followers from LoR make cameos, so needless to say I’m a big fan.

So those are my recs! I just want to say thank you so much to everyone who has made or supported ezko content over the past few years, and here’s to having 100 more fics written soon (maybe if Ezreal gets added to Arcane, lol)!

Tipping things to the appreciation side of the scale: Some of my favorite fics are massive setting change AUs that dig deep into how the source characters would translate into the new setting. I love to see authors pick out what would be different without changing the essential character and what would stay the same, as well as what would need to occur in the AU to make the character do an action they do in the source, or if they do an AU equivalent action instead... on and on it goes! It is a fascinating exercise in identifying the core of a character that, done right, can help a reader understand and love them more. You've combined this with your magical worldbuilding for extra interest, and explored that in such a natural, everyday, matter of fact style that appeals to the suspension of disbelief AND the real-world parallel experiences of stigmatized identities, which makes Mating Habits a fic to remember. I was thinking about it today during my own breakdown. (Also v interested in the Western AU!) When you finish MH, I plan to read the end immediately, then do the whole thing from the beginning in one sitting if I can. You've mentioned plans for one thing I'm excited about and I'm curious to see if you'll do the other one, too. I hope you feel better soon. Simultaneous sick and period is just unfair!

ALSO THANK YOU!!! I write aus because I really love that kind of character work. I think I've mentioned this before but a lot of foxtrap's behavioral stuff and trauma is experiences from my and the au's co-creators' experiences with autism if dialed up a little bit. There's been such hard work put into making him feel like the same character as canon-Trapper with a whole pile of trauma that's resulted in him being a little... well, defanged is kind of a funny word to use for it but I'm sticking by it. He struggles with loud sounds and can't communicate in quite the same way as everyone else and stims and sometimes needs someone to help take care of him and doesn't recognize the differences between platonic and romantic love, but he's still Trapper all the same. And BJ and Hawkeye are changed because of that, because of their relationship to him, although I can't put it into words in quite the same way.

I'm curious to know what it is you're interested in 👀 I've got plans for a traphawk longfic that I'd love to get to, that I know would be so rewarding to write, but that I also know I'm going to struggle with. I so badly want to put where I think they could go after the show into words, especially because I think I have some ideas that make for good reading: I've mentioned before how I think their relationship doesn't survive if they try to make it monogamous, but I also think they feel like they're supposed to make it monogamous.... so there's an awful lot to explore there :3

I saw your tags on the ME post about working on some original stuff. Looking at your profile, it looks like you've already published two novels! Congratulations!

I was curious about your original writing. First of all, what is your series about (I assume it's a series)? How has your experience been so far, both with the writing and publishing? Do you have a long term vision for your series (or your writing plans just in general)?

Pieces of Eden, so far, includes Neon Utopia and the following Apple of Eden. It's a cyberpunk romance with a bit of adventure and, in the case of the second, mystery. I tried to focus a lot on worldbuilding and creating a chance for readers to envision a world that's beautiful on the surface, but goes much deeper into the dark side the closer and longer you look at it.

As for my experience? I saw there's good and bad. The best way to explain a lot of what I experienced is to compare it to fanfiction. Though it's not a perfect example, it's the best one I can relate to.

Unlike fanfiction, you don't get that instant gratification on posting a chapter. Even if you get no comments, you can still say 'hey, I wrote that and I'm happy with it.' With original stuff, you have to keep a bit of it under wraps because ultimately, you're trying to sell it. When I first tried to write original, I gave up because I didn't have something to, basically, cheer me on.

Then I found a friend through my FF writing, @wafflesrock16, who also wanted to use her experience in FF to get into original writing (i highly recommend her fantasy romance series, Rifts, btw). Waffles helps me tremendously because she's my Alpha reader. We bounce ideas and she reads my very rough, very first draft to give me tips. Then came finding a dedicated Beta (which I, unfortunately, didn't have for Neon Utopia - and it sadly shows) and sometimes even an Editor. Being a long fic, I didn't have the money for that so after a Beta's advice, I went through it a handful more times using different techniques to try and polish it up.

Publishing wise, I have to say I went the route of Self-Publishing. I do this for fun, not money, and yes, I did let it get to me last year, but I've realized that bad comments, just like FF, ultimately don't mean anything. People like it or they don't. Also, self-publishing helps me stay calm when I write because I don't have deadlines or have to write query letters to attract agents, then have to double check the agent and publishing company aren't frauds, etc. Plus, all the money comes back to me which, when I sell so few, comes in handy.

The hardest part of the whole process overall is MARKETING. Getting your name out there is hard work and doesn't always work out. I guess that's one good thing about traditional publishing but I still wouldn't trade it.

I, for sure, have one more PoE book in mind but I kinda like how it's more of an episodic series and not one continuous storyline. I don't know if readers will like it so we'll see about reception before I start on the third book.

Writing wise, I want to eventually start my fantasy series. Writing a Fantasy AU for Mass Effect really got me in the mood for it. So, when I finished Fibonacci, get PoE in a place I iike, and feel confident enough to try, I'll start the long process of worldbuilding. Everyone who knows me knows I'm an absolute sucker for worldbuilding so sometimes I get too deep. We'll see when we get there, though, right?

Sorry for being so long-winded! I guess I had quite a bit to say!

Modern/Coffeeshop

It's interesting that you lumped these two together, because I consider them completely separate and have separate opinions on them.

I am actually pretty okay with Modern AUs! It depends on the fandom I'm in, and of course the actual quality can vary so wildly. Some stories just plaster the names of known characters onto complete strangers and expect you to go along with them, but modern AUs also have the tendency to show a lot of creativity when it comes to translation as well! What does a sorcerer look like in a place with no magic, for example?

Most prominently I think thoughtful modern AUs reveal what the writer thinks is integral to the character, what remains the same regardless of setting, and what can change. I find them really interesting from a worldbuilding and a character standpoint, though they do need like, a plot or purpose outside of Modern AU for me.

I'm going to say this is an A Tier--I will always at least try an interesting-sounding modern AU.

For coffeeshop AUs....F Tier. I don't find anything interesting in the setting at all in the literal translation of the trope (that is, modern AU in a coffeeshop or equivalent), but also I think it does really point to a "everyone's just here, chilling, in this world where everything is familiar and the characters are only tangentially themselves." And I can see why some people find that appealing or comforting, but I'd personally rather watch paint dry. They're always so boring!

Soulmate AUs

Okay I feel like I'm gonna be in the minority here but I actually really love soulmate AUs lol--but only like really really particular ones. When the trope is played straight it tends to be very boring, but I love versions of it that consider like, societal implications for having your soulmate's name on your wrist or something. I also LOVE versions where it considers non-romantic soulmates, or the main paring are NOT pre-ordained soulmates, or where the rules are played with or inverted. So basically any flavoring on the original trope makes it good to me but the vanilla version is eh.

That said, going by the rules of the game this is also A Tier because I will always click on a fic with the trope even if I exit out pretty quickly if it turns out to be boring.

Thank you, I have more worldbuilding headcanons than character interactions because I’m so curious about these trolls’ backstories. Like they have to come from somewhere and someone had hatch them despite how small their subgenre is. They’re so cool and mysterious, I have to answer questions about them in my brain!

I would love to see a Trolls special only focusing on the Bounty Hunter trolls and what shenanigans they get themselves into. I specifically have two ideas for a special, 1. the Bounty Hunters are force to work with each other and keep messing up multiple time because they’re not listening to each other, they only succeed when they ACTUALLY try. The second one is a someone hired them separately to catch a person and they’re all being very competitive, purposely mocking and ruining each other’s missions.

Now thinking about it, my tag story would be a nice ending for the Bounty Hunter trolls since their subgenre and previous subgenre trolls are finally being recognized and celebrated. I now want that special

I hope soon we can get new content of them, I know Chaz shows up twice in the Tv show and is even a villain in a game. Maybe soon we can expect more content of the other Bounty Hunters too?

Your AU is not goofy, it honestly sounds adorable and interesting. I can see after the ending of World Tour, the Bounty Hunter trolls are forgotten/left out by the main genres again. I guess their sub-genres weren’t big enough to make an overall impact to gain the respect of the main genres (despite them technically helping Branch and Poppy) so they go to Mount Rageous. Veener is struggling with his new freedom, like you said, but also becoming famous again because everyone thinks he’s a phony now.

This is where I will start throwing my own ideas for this AU, if you don’t mind. Veener and the Bounty Hunter trolls meet in a sketchy building then they strike a partnership with each other. Veener will become famous again by the Bounty Hunter trolls being his mentors, also have his image clear publicly because of their partnership and the Bounty Hunter will become famous in the Mount Rageous through Veener's upcoming popularity. Then we see them warming up and becoming friends with each other, talking about their life stories.

I just know I need to draw and write them more!

I saw someone talking about a Steven Universe/ Encanto AU with Mirabel as a humam/Gem hybrid, I have seen the original series and the movie, and a Mirabel that have the protection from the Diamonds, and I think almost every Gem on the Empire is not one you should target if you value your live, after all if she has Steven(and Rose/Pink) Gem she would be considered the new Pink Diamond(I don't mean It as that she would replace Steven, more like thats the type of Gem she is) everyone reactions about the whole situation would be interesting to see along with their interactions with each other, the post that asked mentioned the Diamonds but the Crystal Gems/Temps reaction to Mirabel becoming a hybrid is something to think about too, they were the ones that helped Greg raise Steven and Now theres a new hybrid with the same gemstone and powers he had, I supose that after they're able to process Steven being gone they would help Mira to learn to use her new powers,( but they did have problems with processing their griev when Rose was gone as well as the many personal problems that they had(could be wrong on something, I haven't rewatched the series in a while)), but picturing Mirabel being taugh about Gem history and her powers and posible bonding with the Gems is really cute, BUT the most likely indentity crisis Mirabel would have is not something she should live(life?), sorry if this is long, but after once seeing a post about similarities between Steven Universe and Encanto(don't remember exactly what, but I think was related to something about the trauma or a comparation of what character of SU somewhat reflexs with an Encanto one) and the idea of a AU or a crossover have being in the back of my mind ever since, I just don't have the skills to write or plan the worldbuilding an AU like this would have

not to bring up the wei qing discourse again, but i was reading your yiling wei au again and i thought of an explanation that better fits both canon and chinese naming traditions, and i'm pretty sure no one brought it up during the discourse itself. iirc you cited madam jin as a reason to change wq's name, but the thing is that when you use furen (madam), you're supposed to attach your husband's name, which means that madam yu is actually the odd one out skdhskf. an argument could be made for how it symbolises the fraught tension between yzy and jfm, but yeah.

however, your name still stays the same. so madam jin's name would have stayed the same. she just would've been referred to as jin-furen. you can see this with jyl, who's referred to as jin-xiao-furen (young madam jin). also, i'm pretty sure cultivators keep their name regardless of their sect (see: su she and luo qingyang). it's just that most of the disciples we see are clan (familial) disciples, not sect (outer) disciples, which is why their family name is the same as the sect name.

so what i initially thought, upon reading your au, was that wq changed her name to emphasise her declaration of loyalty to wwx. family names in chinese culture is incredibly important, and to change your family name is to essentially turn your back on your ancestors. so what i read was wq turning her back on the wen legacy and declaring her loyalty to wwx in a way no one can refute. even marriage can be written off as political, but the changing of a family name hits a lot harder and more irrevocably.

her marriage to wwx, then, would've been inferred from her position in the entourage and her proximity to him.

btw, if you're comfortable with it, could you publish this publicly so more ppl are aware of this? it's okay if you're not skdjjs but i know a lot of cql fans don't have a lot of knowledge of chinese customs and stuff so yeah this might be helpful

hi! it’s nice of you to point all this out, but it was where i was going to begin with

my point with madam jin wasn’t that she changed her name after she got married because she got married. i’ve written people getting married in the untamed universe before i made that tumblr fic, and i didn’t have them change their name, because i was aware that that isn’t really a thing in chinese culture. and tbh i find character name changes to be a little jarring as a reader, so i avoid them when i can. 

my point with madame jin - and at the time i thought she had a jin last name that she used outside of the madame title but i’m pretty sure that’s incorrect - and others is that in canon it seems like people are running around with clan family names without actually being part of the main family. this could just be because of messiness of the drama or because i’m just bad at keeping track of everyone’s names

so how i handled this in lynchpin was i had it being a thing where people take on the clan name while they’re apart of the clan. except for the jiang, who are little rebels. 

so it would be like, for example: 

birth name: wei ying; courtesy name: wuxian; clan name; jiang wuixan

so like, anyone could refer to any disciple in gold “young master jin” without knowing their real name. and people could either use their clan name or not, but most would as a sign of status and allegiance, but doing so wouldn’t be giving up their name

the point is that i thought it would be interesting and a fun and useful convention to throw into fic. even though it’s not historically accurate, i think that that’s fine because there’s no historically accurate way to address large governing clans of magic knights because those didn’t exist

so when wei wuxian clarifies wen qing’s name is now wei qing, it’s to show he’s gone against the jiang practices he grew up with and in his clan people use a clan name. 

it’s significant for the wen especially, because there’s a reveal in that universe (that, in all fairness, i never got to because after everyone got so upset about it i really didn’t feel like getting into) that they give up their birth name wen to only go by wei. 

i’d had this scene that i really liked where someone claims all the wen have to be killed and wei wuxian was just like “what wen? there are no wen here. there are only wei.” but again, this whole thing caused so much drama that i just wasn’t interested in getting into it again 

even though i didn’t go into that, when we see wen ning later in the fic, he’s going by wei ning 

it was never about wen qing getting married. that’s why she’s introduced first as madame wei - to show that’s she’s married to wei wuxian, the clan leader of the wei - and then wei wuxian gives her name as wei qing. they’re signifying different things. if the point had just been to show they’re married and her name is wei now, he wouldn’t have clarified her name in front of everyone, since people obviously already know who she is 

jiang yanli is in the same fic, married to jin zixuan, and i don’t refer to her as jin yanli. it wasn’t a marriage thing

did i expect that everyone who read my tiny tumblr fic would have also read my 100k monster fic and know i was bringing in similar ideas? 

of course not. 

but i also hadn’t expected everyone to jump down my throat about changing her name because she got married when i at no point ever claimed that was why she changed her name, nor had i had literally any other married character change their name

i thought i could just do what i usually do and go on to fill in worldbuilding and reveal in other installments so i didn’t feel the need to go into a deep dive of my motivations from page one

Talking about an unreleased show because I don't have anything better to do

Apologies for the length and for referencing other media because I've only watched half of Sonic Boom series 1 in terms of Sonic cartoons.

We already know Sonic Prime ain't going to be canon hopping, which is disappointing but expected. It is a shame we're not getting Classic but tbh that's on Sega. Blaze should definitely appear though. She hasn't been in a show yet and she deserves to be in Prime, given the multiverse plot.

I think the idea of hopping through a bunch of random AUs is really interesting. It opens up for a lot in terms of creativity. Some concept art showed a tribal Amy, and a Pirate dimension. We have already seen pirate-themed outfits in Sonic Dash, which were extremely well-received by fans, so this one especially seems more likely to appear.

We also saw Kitsune Tails in some concept art but it's currently not known if that's an AU or his regular design for the show. More likely AU but it's a cool design regardless.

Sonic's new shoes are very cool. I'm assuming that's what he'll be using to dimension hop. They look sick whether that ends up being the case or not.

One of the concept arts showed a bunch of different Eggmen as well. I cannot find any of this art and SNN doesn't seem to have it for some reason but I remember there was like some preteen Eggman (Eggboy?) lol

Also I forgot they've called the multiverse 'The Shatterverse'? Surely multiverse is easier but Shatterverse sounds pretty cool I guess. Explains the logo.

I remember there were rumours about it being game canon after the press release. Idk whether that's been debunked or not but it's.. interesting. The show is being used to promote the IP, rather than act as a completely original sub-series like Boom was, so it's possible. Or it could just be that it uses/references events/places/stuff from the games. I believe it has been confirmed the locations will be the same. The show is projected to release next autumn and could well end up dropping within weeks of Frontiers (which has the same release time frame), so the two could maybe reference each other.

Overall I don't really mind if it is main canon but I'd prefer if it was its own thing.

Just from vibes I think this is gonna lean more towards what SatAM and X went for in terms of plot. So more action less comedy. I know X had some more comedic moments as well, idk about SatAM but I think it had moments like that as well? However the demographic of Prime is 6-11 iirc so I don't think it would go that dark. Like not how Clone Wars and Rebels are where you sit there the whole time wondering how this is rated PG and aimed at children. I know the Sonic franchise is very willing to go dark but they are also willing to do the complete opposite (AoStH/Boom for the most part). Something like Teen Titans, the first 4 seasons of Winx Club or the She-Ra reboot is probably the best approach. So more of a focus on plot, worldbuilding and character development but still with comedy moments and a plot easy enough to understand at a baseline level so the show will still appeal to kids.

That being said if they choose to go completely off the rails and give us a really dark Clone Wars-esque show thank you sega.

And of course, the Sonic has too many friends controversy. Tails will appear in any media in the franchise with a 99% gurantee, and Amy is going to be here as well as evidenced by concept art. Knux is a given as well since he's part of the core 4. Shadow and Metal are the next most recurring characters. I'm assuming Metal - or at least some version of him - will appear. There's like 500 fucking Eggmen there has to be Metal. Shadow doesn't show up as much as the core 4 either, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is in Prime, even if it's a smaller role like in Boom. Y'know, for the fanservice.

Everyone other than those 6 is much less likely to get in. However due to the main plot of the show it would be an easy opportunity to have a larger cast. Rouge is probably most likely to appear out of everyone else due to her affiliation with Shadow, or if not them, then Blaze due to the theme of the series.

I really hope the writers don't succumb to that idea of a smaller cast 'to try and please fans' because there's such a broad cast of characters there's so much room for good plot arcs and character development. X worked really well with a large cast and shows that the franchise doesn't need to cut down on characters to keep up the good reception.

Personally I would love to see the Babylon Rogues as unlikely as it is. They will not be in the show - if they are I will be shocked - but Starline, Whisper and Tangle. Please.

Silver too. Though since this is inter-dimensional travel and not time travel it may be harder to work him in.

And of course, shipping. Despite the seemingly high-stakes, high-intensity plot, they'll probably squeeze it in somewhere lol. And solid guarantee it'll be sonamy unless Blaze shows up in which case maybe sonaze.

I've recently regained my fondness for sonaze so I wouldn't mind seeing it. It's a nice change of pace as well.

Knuxouge is also likely if Rouge is in the show. I'm pretty neutral towards that one but they do have a good dynamic.

Watch this show say it releases next year and drop in the last week of December 2022. Yes I'm salty at Book of Boba Fett.

This is a dimension hopping show there will be the obligatory evil AU (But we're not allowed to talk about Scourge so it'll probably just be Sonic with a different palette or he won't even be there lmao)

We know Amy and Tails will have new VAs in this show. I wonder when they'll announce who the new actors are (probably closer to release). Sonic and Eggman are keeping the same VAs, and Shadow seems likely. Presumably the characters that were recast in TSR will keep those VAs. Dunno about the other guys (Rouge) though. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a few recasts.

Update 28/12/21: All the voice cast is staying, at least for the games. So ignore what I said about Ames being recast. As far as I am aware it has yet to be confirmed that Tails will not be recast in this show, as when the whole drama with the VAs was happening, Colleen said she would not voice him in Prime. Ofc netflix could end up getting their own cast for the show, but I don’t see why they’d need/want to.

I really don't see why there's such backlash against Flynn being consulted? It's not like he has that much influence. I know he is basically treated like the be-all and end-all of Sonic lore by a lot of people which is okay actually a bit annoying like there's plenty of other people who know a lot about lore, and some of his writing/characterisation is questionable (Charmy in Archie is one example). Overall I don't really mind. IDW is fine? I actually liked the zombot arc - I do generally like darker plots though - but the other arcs he's written range from fine → pretty good actually so I don't see why it's such a huge problem. Was his writing in Archie terrible?

Or I could post the continuation of this post and go into depth about how Eustace and Caspian are affected by deity Narnia. Welcome back to Inhuman Narnia 101 and it turned out just as long as the first one so buckle up.

Warnings for slight body horror mentions including blood magic stuff, slight religious themes and theological discussion towards the end.

Before anything: This AU directly contradicts canon a lot. I don't care, that's why it's called an AU. Some of it is deliberate, some of it is accidental. I haven't read the books in a number of years, so this is all based on the movies and general information I've picked up from fanfic and tumblr. Discussion on this post is welcomed, criticism and arguments are not. Thank you.

First off, here is the link to an exploration of Dragoning, the Eustace-centric fic I wrote about this. I refer to it repeatedly in this post so if you want the full thing, there it is.

Second, let's get into this. So in my last post, I talked a lot about Narnia, her general existence in this AU, and her motivations as a character. She wants the people in her world to be a part of her, and no one else. Some of this is a conscious choice, and some of it isn't. Eustace's changes throughout his time in VOTDT are definitely not purposeful. It was his greed that drove him to the treasure, it was his own "curse" in becoming a dragon. That was not Narnia reaching out to him and purposefully trying to mold him to her world. As such, he takes on more of an observing role.

Eustace doesn't ever actually directly address his cousins on the subject of their inhumanity, in this fic or in any other I write. He simply sees it, notes it happening, and moves on. Even in the sections in my fics where the subject of inhumanity in general is brought up between Eustace and one of his cousins, it's always about Caspian, the greater Narnian world, or himself.

"Eustace asks why, and Lucy answers. Narnia changes people, she says. It happens to everyone, but the closer you are to her Heart, the greater it is. I don't know where Dragons are. Perhaps closer than we realized. It's exhilarating, isn't it? Aslan will return us to normal though, at the end of our journey." - AEOD

I don't know why, but I don't like the idea of Eustace trying to directly address the Pevensie brand of inhumanity. That line above takes place after his UnDragoning, after the way he sees things has changed, and I see it as him asking what exactly has changed, you know, why are Dragons different than boys?

That brings me to how Eustace himself changes. Now, if he hadn't gone and turned into a Dragon, I imagine Narnia wouldn't have taken much note of him. He's a random human, stuck-up, not at all in line for ruling her lands, and just kind of exists without much else going on. She still would have affected him a little, as she does to all humans in her world but it would have been almost entirely spiritual with no physical changes. And then we got the greatest fuck around and find out scene ever. He becomes a Dragon.

I love dragons, always have, I have a very deep spiritual connection to these creatures, and as such, I have gone all out on worldbuilding for Narnian Dragons. Again, the quote from AEOD, "...the closer you are to her Heart, the greater it is. I don't know where Dragons are. Perhaps closer than we realized." In the Inhuman AU, Dragons were the first creatures Narnia (the deity) and Aslan made when they created Narnia (the world). They just really liked the dragon shape from other worlds and thought, "Hey wouldn't it be cool if our world was populated by these big fire-breathing lizards?" Now I don't actually remember how often Dragons are mentioned and/or featured in the books so I'm going with my idea that Dragons are a somewhat rare but not extinct species. They have to be created through magical means, often through physical transformation of people or objects, though there are a few known cases of natural-born Narnian Dragons. Eustace's creation was the curse on the treasure, though I don't see his Dragoning as a curse itself. As in, the curse isn't in the being a Dragon, it's in how the Dragon was created. So, Eustace experiences this accidental change into a creature that's closer to Narnia's Heart than pretty much any other being in Narnia. They were her first creations, forged from the fire in the Stars, and they are the closest to her magic. And that gets her attention.

Now, if you went and read AEOD, you'll have noticed that one of Eustace's biggest changes (aside from the obvious physical ones) is his vision. This is just a natural thing for Dragons, they are far more in tune with magic and the earth and everything than everyone else, but Narnia's special interest in him definitely amplifies the hell out of his magic sense.

"The people here say dragons see the oddest of things, and he has to assume it's a hallucination....He refuses to give into its whims, reminds himself it's just his imagination. Until Reepicheep comments on it." - AEOD. Following this quote, Reepicheep mentions to Lucy that her inhumanity is returning faster than Edmund's and Eustace has a total panic attack at the idea that what he's seeing is real. He sees what everyone else does, Lucy's stained fingers and Edmund's ability to manipulate words, but he also notices stuff no one else does like the stars in Edmund's throat and the echoes that follow Lucy's words. This is further cemented after his UnDragoning, where the extra stuff he perceived has vanished. Now the general idea in this AU is that the closer to Narnia's Heart you are, the more you know and perceive. Everyone can see some of the more obvious inhuman aspects of the Pevensies, but there are things that only Dragons, druids, Stars, and some other magic folk really close to Narnia's Heart see. I'm not going to get into an exact chart of what certain characters can and cannot see because that can change over time and such and I'd rather leave it mostly up to personal interpretation on what other characters do and do not perceive about the Pevensies and other such inhuman characters.

(Side note—I had to pause in the writing of this post here to go to my second meeting for an autism assessment and I think if I just showed the doctor my notes app and the inhuman/dark fantasy narnia tag on my blog, I'd get the diagnosis instantly lol) So anyways, Narnia senses Eustace becoming a Dragon and is like "Ooohoo what's this?" and starts sort of digging into him in the same way she does to her Kings and Queens. This triggers his already enhanced perception of Narnia (the world) to get even stronger, and this is when he starts seeing stuff like people's souls, Caspian's second heart (more on that soon), and looking at Lucy/Edmund/Lilliandil becomes almost painful because Narnia's magic is so bright in them. Aslan then UnDragons him, which Narnia really doesn't like btw, and Eustace is back to being a fairly average human.

This is where stuff established in AEOD ends.

Now I have so many ideas and half finished fanfics written out in my notes app about Eustace, UnDragoning, and inhumanity and it would be impossible to cover them all here, so I'm just going to go with the highlights. One of my favorite ones is the idea that after Eustace's UnDragoning, he still feels very connected to being a dragon. He's had this taste of pure inhumanity, and something like that doesn't just leave a person. There's a fic I read once long before I was fully invested in this fandom about Eustace and draconity that I will never stop thinking about and was actually the reason I started considering Eustace and Narnian Dragons in this AU. One of the really important things to note is that once a Dragon is created, they can never be uncreated. They can be UnDragoned, where their physical form is returned to whatever it was before their Dragoning (a rock, a talisman, a faun, etc) but their soul has changed on a fundamental level to that of a Dragon. Now for Eustace in my Inhuman AU, this manifests spiritually as a deep longing to return to being a Dragon. Physically, he experiences fun side effects like increased heat tolerance, nails that grow faster than normal, and because Narnia likes to meddle, a single ridge of scales along his spine. In some versions of my drafts, he stays at the end of VOTDT and experiences a slow Dragoning because Narnia's influence on him is that strong, other versions he stays but never quite returns to the Dragon he was before, and in yet other versions, he returns to England and loses that connection enough that physically, he will never be a Dragon again. As I said, Narnia is fascinated by him, she's never really had a human Dragon before, but he is still just a random guy who happens to be related to the Pevensies and as such, she doesn't invest as much time or magic into his inhumanity.

So that's Eustace. This is already such a long post but I promised to talk about both him and Caspian so here we go.

Now, in my last post I talked a bit about how Narnia (the deity) affects the other humans in Narnia (the world) to an extent, but it's nowhere near the amount she does to her Kings and Queens, and also this diminishes more and more the farther you get from Narnia (the country). Telmar is fairly close to Narnia (the country) but as we see in PC, a lot of Narnia's magic and spirit has been diminished by the time Caspian is born. Up until the awakening of the land during the battle, Caspian is essentially 100% human. However, this changes very quickly.

It's hard to pinpoint the exact moment Caspian becomes a King of Narnia. Is it when he refuses to kill Miraz? Is it when Aslan tells him he's one? Is it during his actual coronation? Yes, yes, and yes. I try not to pin it down to an exact moment. By the end of PC though, he's definitely noticing some changes in himself. I have an unpublished part 2 to an exploration of Inhumanity (my only other actually posted fic on this stuff) that I swear I will clean up and get posted soon that goes into further detail on the changes he's noticing at the end of AEOI. Some of the big ones include a second golden heart, seeing some of the life magic in the world around him, and a golden glow on his palms. He also slowly develops the ability to heal, though it's not always consistent. Magic takes practice, lots and lots of practice. In pt 2, the glow on his palms has gotten so bright and also spread around his head like a halo, and Lucy shows him how to conceal it so he's not impossible to look at, but because of Magic™ there's still a dusting of golden powdery stuff across his skin. His blood turns golden because Ben Barnes + golden blood is such pretty imagery, and like the others, it gets sucked down and absorbed into Narnia's Heart when he bleeds in battle. Also when I say he's got a second heart I mean he's got a second fucking heart. Ribcage shift and all. (His appearance doesn't actually change, it's more like a pocket dimension thing going on inside him, but he sure as hell can feel it happening). Having Narnia as a patron goddess just means you have to put up with a second puberty sometimes lol.

Anyways, there's a line in AEOI that I feel explains this stuff really well. "He cannot truly protect the land without becoming a part of it himself." Narnia changes her Kings and Queens because she wants them to be a part of her. Aslan doesn't really see these changes as necessary (in canon, a world without deity Narnia, they don't happen), and if the storyline we pick is the one that's the constant cycle of humanity and inhumanity, it's sort of a push and pull between them. Aslan wants the Pevensies, and by proxy anyone else who rules Narnia or experiences these changes, to keep their humanity, to stay as they were Created by him. Narnia, however, wants them to be as much a part of her as she is of them. It's very clear in both the books and the movies that Narnia (the world) is where these characters belong. In the end, they all come home to her (yes, Susan too because fuck Mr. Clive Staples Lewis). Caspian being anything less than fully inhuman is something she cannot handle. She is constantly having to recreate the Pevensies, reestablish her hold on them, only to have them return to England and become mostly human again. Caspian cannot be taken away from her, he is in this world by birth and she is going to do everything she can to shape him into the ruler he needs to be.

Once again, I would like to state that Aslan and Narnia are not opposing sides of good and evil. Gods cannot be defined by human standards, and to think either Narnia or Aslan completely in the right or wrong in this AU would be, well, an interesting standpoint, but really not the one I'm going for here. I'm not going to say it's a misinterpretation, I am very open to hearing people's thoughts on this AU, and everyone's going to see things differently. Just, please reread what I've written about them before you start making that argument.

Anyways, that wraps this post up because I have spent the better part of the past 6 hours writing this. I spent way more time on Eustace than I intended but it's just so fascinating to think about inhumanity from his perspective considering he's the only one in canon that actually was (briefly) inhuman. Oh my, I finally managed to read the newest chapter after a long (but not stressful) day

What can I say except it's the best way to end my day? I'm so glad things look a bit brighter now, Ingo still beating himself up but he has more support now. I'm happy for him.

And once again I could gush all day over the fact how wonderful you write about those simple things in between and also adding details that definitely would be part of the Pokemon world. Like the Pokemon in Restaurants getting a treat too the Pokemon being part of the Conversations and be overall part of the overall story. Once again many stories sideline them often which is so sad. I love your writing style for that.

Chauntal and Caitlin are also part of the story now. NICE. I really love how you managed to weave them so naturally into the story with Chauntals Investigations and Caitlin realizing psychic abilities! I'm looking forward to see how they're contribute to the overall story! And their Pokemon are darlings as well! So cute!

He went to the bed and again laid a gentle hand on Emmet’s forehead. “We’re heading out for the night, Emmet. We’ll see you in the morning, love you.” It was a small ritual in their family, to say ‘I love you’ at every parting and every goodnight. Like a small prayer, asking for the safety of the beloved family member. They certainly needed it now. - I teared up at that, this is so strong. This is so... I don't have the right words in english for that (and even in my mother tongue I don't know how to express myself; but its so SO GOOD) this is the kind of family dynamic I really LOVE. It hits right in the feels.

Ingo reached out to Rosa as well... Curious what she'll bring into the story. I'll definitely stay tuned!

Another day has ended in this AU, a lot has happened, help for Emmet is on the way as well? Still not entirely sure what to think about Dr. Korten but once she shows up I'll keep it neutral. I just hope the twins can properly reunite soon, with hugs and tears and all the emotions.

ANYWAY I already wrote way too much in here. I'll stop for now. But I let you know that I also enjoyed details and parts I haven't mentioned in here (If I gush about them I bet they would be as long as your chapter themselves) ^^"

I'm so glad I was able to get enough of the Pokemon in there by the end, I was actually trying to add even more as I went through the editing phase, but there was no natural way to fit that into the flow of the conversations. :< I'd even wanted Bo to come out of the kitchen and see how everyone was liking their food, but the chapter was just feeling too long already. Hopefully I can work him in if the crew go back to his restaurant, he's just a fun little bit of worldbuilding and interaction I'd like to add.

Funny enough I initially added Shauntal and Caitlin on a whim and they ended up providing some much-needed emotional breathing room and clues to help Ingo. Also just, I really enjoyed writing for them and I'm more invested in their characters now lol. That tends to happen with me. I'm kinda blah toward a character but then as soon as I write them I'm like "aw hell yeah I love them look at them go!"

Aaaaa I'm so glad that part landed right! 😭 In a way I was putting to words why I always say "love you" to my family when we say goodbye and it's something I really wanted to add to Ingo and Emmet's relationship.

Dr. Korten will be bringing some interesting(and helpful!) things to the table, just you wait and see. >:3c Can't wait to introduce Esme too, she's a verrry special girl.
