☾ - sleep headcanon Oh god - not this couple. why break me like this? My first thought was that Andrea must sleep with those hair curlers and a cute pink silk cap on top lots of nights. She's a mother, she is used to uncomfortable sleep. Because she 100% had whatever child couldn't sleep over in her bed when Gabriel had night shifts or was burried in his home office over a case. It helped her sleep because she often would be kept up in worry or stress about her husband but having a tiny body in a cozy crocodile or mermaid pyjama to cuddle with? That helped. But most nights Gabriel would sleep with her in the bed. He just wouldn't allow kids in bed, hoping they'd learn to sleep better in their own bed. Instead he would tuck them in and stay until they fell asleep whenever he could, reading to them or telling one of his stories (often kids' versions of real cases where the good always conquered the evil). And later, when the kids were grown enough to not sleep over or tell them about nightmares, they became the reason neither of them would sleep some nights. But with growing age, Gabriel relaxed a bit more into his job, learned to take himself and his health just as seriously. So they spent a lot of nights in bed, taling, reading, having sex with the door open now that the kids were all out of the house and wouldn't barge in like had happened some unfortunate times that were unpleasant for either of them. Until his death, I believe the bedroom of Gabriel and Andrea was one lit in warm light, whispered fights, but most of all one they slept back pressed to back no matter Austin's heat.

7: What’s your strangest talent?

Ich würde es nicht unbedingt ein Talent nennen, aber ich kann verdammt gut Spiegeln. Am besten kann ich Stimmen, Dialekte und die genrelle Ausdrucksweise meines Gegenübers spiegeln. Meine Stimme bleibt immer meine Stimme, aber mein Freund sagt, dass er manchmal das Gefühl hat, neben einer völlig anderen Person zu sitzen, weil sich meine gesamte Ausstrahlung, Tonlage etc. verändert.

Ich hab auch so einen Tick, dass ich aus Langeweile oder Genervtheit beim Videos gucken die Youtube-Werbungen nachmache. Ich muss den Werbespruch nur einmal hören und kann den mega gut nachsprechen - Tonlage, Lautstärke, Betonung passt irgendwie alles.

Mein Freund war einmal etwas schockiert, weil ich wie eine alte Frau geklungen habe 😂 Kleine Kinder kann ich auch gut nachsprechen und ich kann extrem viele, komische Geräusche mit meinem Mund machen. Ich kann auch Zombiegeräusche oder das Knurren eines Hundes gut nachmachen. Also, ich wei�� auch nicht..

Ich benutz das meistens, um mir die Langeweile zu vertreiben oder wenn ich Freunden sehr dramatisch ein Erlebnis erzähle 😅

In Zukunft hab ich vor, mehr mit meiner Stimme zu machen. Vielleicht lerne ich ja Screaming oder Growling oder so 😏

i think wolf!toji would probably unconciously do that as soon as you walk in the door, nose twitching as he picks up the various scents that have clung to your body over the course of the day. he can smell the fatigue, the faint traces of whoever you sat next to on the bus, the smell of coffee from your evening cup.

but stress on you is different. it's sharp and jarring and it makes his tail flick unknowingly—he does not like this scent on you.

internally, he's in the midst of a rage and a panic. rage because of what, or who, is causing this emotion in you.

(you, who deserves nothing but every single drop of happiness in the world.)

and panic because he does not know what to do. he is not a kind man—he does not know how to offer soft words and free comfort the way you do. the way any good person would do.

so instead, he does what he knows he cannot mess up. he waits until you have gone to shower before quietly picking up the phone. he orders food from a place he knows you like, waits for it to be left on the doorstep, and then plates it himself. then he wordlessly sits in his seat and waits for you.

when you return, you comment on his behavior, and he brushes you off with a scoff. but for the rest of the night he does not tear his eyes away from you, ever attentive to your needs. he sees you shiver while you're watching tv, and he's throwing a blanket over your head. your eyes get heavy, and he silently turns the volume down.

soon enough, you're completely knocked out, and toji shuts the tv off. there is a brief thought that runs through his mind, questioning why on earth he's doing all of this for you.

why he's bending down to pick you up in his arms. why he's making sure your head is comfortable resting against his shoulder before walking you to your room. why he's gently setting you down in your bed and pulling the blankets up to your chin.

but then he remembers the way the expression on your face had brightened up, and suddenly he knows he has his answer.

I immediately turn around and leave.

Hiya! thank you for reading my brainrot posts, I’m so glad you enjoy them!! genuinely still reeling at that, haikaveh nation needs the scrapped og haikaveh voice lines, HOW was it so implied that they needed to be cut when the lines officially used are still so ???? i'm obsessed with those videos comparing alhaitham’s general exposition dialogue to when he first talks with/teases kaveh in the house of daena, the switch up is crazy, it actually makes me sick <3

I think my personal favourite facts are translation based?? I’m intrigued with the nuances the EN doesn’t cover that the original CN has! There’s a big contrast in alhaitham’s fourth character story where the EN states that kaveh is a ‘familiar face’ to alhaitham, whereas the CN states that alhaitham believes that he and kaveh know each other ‘through and through’. The intimacy here is much more poignant and I feel this aligns with what I’ve heard about the CN’s dub as well. Minimushiroom has an amazing compilation of translation facts that I love looking over <3

Joint with this is the interpretation that kaveh is paralleled with his mother, faranak, in relation to companionship. In this, it can be seen that kaveh’s relationship with alhaitham and the relationship between kaveh's parents are deliberately aligned. There are many indicators in kaveh’s hangout that he can be paralleled with his mother, with his mother’s old professor directly comparing them. Kaveh’s mother is described as having a sensitive soul, which is compared with kaveh's sensitivity. (it's also interesting to consider the CN translation of alhaitham's voice line about kaveh, were kaveh is described by alhaitham as having a ‘caring heart’.) Kaveh’s mother struggles similarly in being understood by others in her art, which is the core of kaveh’s hangout, and it’s revealed that her struggles evened out when meeting kaveh’s father.

Faranak shares that it’s companionship that should be valued over understanding, and a drawing of kaveh’s father with the paternal figures of kaveh’s current friends, directly paralleling the ending’s hangout picture, where kaveh and alhaitham sit in their fathers’ places, and where kaveh is turned towards alhaitham, rather than away. to me, this can be seen as positioning alhaitham as the most integral companion for kaveh, which parallels with the bond shared between kaveh's mother and father. alhaitham cannot understand kaveh's artistic struggles, but he can support him regardless - just as kaveh's father did for kaveh's mother. i have a post that digs deeper into this, and this is also further explored in the essay, but this interpretation is really interesting to me, since it highlights romantic connotations in the theme of ��companionship’, not only platonic bonds. to me, it's one of the more prominent instances of queercoding for these two :')

And well, i love the fact you said he wouldn’t have a typical happy ending, cause that’s exactly how i see it

The thing is, when it comes to his relationship with Dream, I think it’s a bit on the doomed side, where the possibility of them to reconcile and find common ground is there, but both of them are too blinded by their pain to truly settle down and talk it out like adults (even when Dream tries to talk to Nightmare, it always escalates to them fighting, whether physically or verbally, and it’s not always Nightmare that’s in the wrong, sometimes it’s Dream in the wrong, and other times both of them can be in the wrong for one reason or another, but the result is the same with them just fighting, that’s why they usually end up staying silent whenever they’re in the same place and they’re not fighting each other, they simply keep each other company without a word)

So when it comes to the twins they’re too broken, and their relationship is too scarred for the both of them to truly heal together

So if anything, I think Nightmare is only going to heal if he just finds a life that isn’t revolved around Dream at all, and yeah, that’s kinda fucked up, but sometimes, you can’t be happy unless you’re far away from that family, where they’re out of sight and out of mind

And don’t get me wrong it isn’t cause Dream is a bad brother at all, it’s more cause Nightmare’s pain is mostly around the apple incident and his twin, so for him to actually finally heal, he needs to let go of the obsession of getting the final apple and the obsession of how Dream must have been the main reason for his pain somehow, and he can’t let go of that obsession, unless Dream’s somewhere far away from where he is, somewhere unreachable

That’s where the 500 years of Dream in stone comes in, I like to think that Nightmare was actually mostly chill during that period, not saying he wasn’t spreading negativity at all, but he was too traumatized and too busy wanting to move on and finding a future for himself that he wasn’t too bad, but once he settled down his mind started catching up to him and instead of chasing a future away from his pain, his mind instead got back to become stuck in the past and all he’s reminded of is the pain he went through, and he definitely wasn’t at all happy, but even then, i’d still say he was peaceful in his own way

But when Dream got free? Yeah every little ounce of pain, trauma, bad and good memories came crashing down and well, Nightmare, the being who acts on emotions more than brain just immediately goes nuts

Enter: mean girl bitchmare

And well, i think it’s kinda obvious how it goes, Nightmare’s behavior just gets worse and worse as the time goes on with every time he gets to see Dream’s face (to Nightmare, it’s the only reminder left for him about the abuse he went through)

That being said, the only happy ending Nightmare could truly have is if Dream just was far away, not dead, never dead, just… far far away

But i can also see the possibility of Nightmare finding peace in the very last moments of his life had he died, but only if he gets to die within Dream’s arms, cause whether he finds happiness with Dream far away or not, a buried part of Nightmare still loves Dream deep inside, and Nightmare would perfer to die within the arms of the only person who ever truly cared about him, than die all alone without someone to whisper reassurances as he faces his fear of death

And hey, a part of Nightmare smiles in sadistic glee at Dream’s tears as he holds his corpse :)

hey what do you think abt damian calling his dad baba and his siblings various nicknames in arabic that range from zameel or jalees when he’s particularly annoyed with them to akhi (brother)/ukhti (sister) when hes rlly happy

anything that keeps damian in touch with his heritage is a huge yes for me. big fan of him slipping arabic words into his sentences, or repeating phrases he grew up around when he can't think of an adequate english equivalent. etc etc

similar to how people who are learning english as a second language tend to mix their native tongue into english sentences. although with damian i don't think he would do it because he isn't confident with the language (because he most definitely is), i think it's just something that's familar to him, and comfortable to slip into his english speech. + sometimes he can just articulate himself better in arabic.

as for the familial names, although he doesn't use them in canon, he very much does seek comfort from things culturally familiar to him, in gotham. such as in teen titans (2016) special #1, when he's implied to often visit a middle-eastern restaurant 'tarbooshes' which reminds him of his home in the league and his mother.

so although the nicknames aren't something shown in the comics, i don't think it'd be unlikely. he's definitely 'in touch' with his culture, and it's far from an out there idea.

as for the specific names, such as calling bruce 'baba', i'm typically all for that. though apparently in arabic that word in particular translates more to 'dad' than it does 'father'. obviously damian's very formal with his speech, so it is a question as to whether or not that would be the nickname he uses for bruce, or whether he'd use more formal titles. (this post gives some alternatives + explains it more).

usually when i see the use of 'baba' in fics, it's very fitting. i'm very partial to the 'sleepy/hurt damian letting his guard down' trope, and i thoroughly enjoy it when the writer lets him slip a "baba" to bruce. one fic that did this really well was 'repeat your favourite mistakes and love them all over again' by watchingthestars13 on ao3, in which damian (although not the focus of the story) is aged down to 2 years old by magic, and coordinates life as a toddler with bruce, rather than with the league. he's very hesitant to affection at first, so when the writer lets an 'about to fall asleep' damian, call bruce his 'baba', it's always just right.

i'm also fond of him having personal nicknames for his siblings beyond 'brother' or 'sister' in arabic. this post talks about how in arab culture it's common for people to refer to loved ones as their organs. i think it's a fun idea for damian, especially because it's something only he would understand. i think he'd be most likely to do this for dick, although maybe he has a generic one that he uses for other siblings when he's suuuuper happy with them.

but he also takes advantage of being the only arab in the house, and one huuuuundred percent switches up the nicknames he uses depending on how he feels about that sibling at a particular time. he is not above throwing flavourful remarks when he's annoyed, in a language no one else understands (whether that be arabic or not), or calling people the nastiest names he can think of.

God this was the best ever I just walked up to strangers and talked, someone I'd met minutes earlier gave me their shiny photocard because I couldn't afford merch, I asked for a cross to finish my sister Daniel closet cosplay and someone on Tumblr gave one to me, I spent the whole show that I came to on my own talking to the person next to me who I sold my sister's ticket to, I got to have a photoshoot with fellow sister Daniels. I have been in so many fandoms and I've been to so many shows that the Tumblr gays enjoy (shout out Melbourne MCR 2023 best day of my life) and none have ever been as good and kind and genuinely welcoming as the phandom. Idk why I'm saying this to you specifically I'm just emotional and wanna say this to someone who understands. The phandom is the most magical place in the world.

I'm delighted you experienced such kindness and generosity and I completely agree with you - it's honestly magical being in the phandom and experiencing that sense of community irl. and I think the warmth of the fandom is really a reflection of dan and phil and the principles they've always stood for - acceptance, empathy, kindness, all of it.
