✨ What's a fic you've posted you wish you could breathe life into again and have people talking about it? (or simply a fic you wish got more credit)

I often have a tender spot in my heart for my most recent fic (my youngest child), and (maybe in part because writing has been so, so difficult for me in the last eight months) that's been especially true of my latest Icemav fic Separation. I had a sense that this story would probably have a smaller audience: it's more historical-fiction-adjacent than anything else I've written, and the historical contexts it explores, like the AIDS epidemic, make it a hard read as well. But I'm quite proud of it, and I learned a lot writing it. I think it's one of the best things I've written.

💫 What is your favorite kind of comment/feedback?

I've offered a couple answers to this question here and here. Another favorite kind of feedback is getting cheers on WIPs or in-progress snips posted on Tumblr. Especially when I'm trying to write a longer story (which requires incredible effort for me), it really helps renew and sustain my own enthusiasm for the project to be able to draft on the generous energy of others. 🪄 What is your post-writing/sharing aftercare? How do you take care of yourself or celebrate yourself when you've finished a fic?

Well first, like many, I refresh AO3 like a fiend waiting to see what people think. After indulging in that impulse for a while, I often try to do something that will take my attention away from my phone or laptop: go for a long walk or meet up with friends or my partner for an adventure. I might also do some reading. When I'm in the home stretch of finishing a fic of my own I usually find it hard to read anything else, so once I've posted I might treat myself to catching up on some things I missed while in the throes of composition.
