I'd love to see the goofy guy Patch from dawn of new riders! Chimeragons really made one appearance, became way too op, and then disappeared into obscurity. But look at the guy...he so ugly and goofy I love him

So funny story. I watched a playthrough of this game when it first came out in 2019, and it's been on my wish list ever since (mostly because of the flight mechanics lol) And now that I found these asks in my inbox again, I checked the Nintendo Store just in case, and it had a 55% discount??? So I got the game and spent the last 2 days playing it and now I'm a changed man (as of posting this, the discount lasts for 2 more days!)

Dragon #125 - MLM Patch (and Scribbler)

More thoughts and spoilers for the game under the cut!

I made Patch MLM colored instead of some other random Chimeragon, because the game has shown us that he can change colors with every rebirth, which I think is pretty neat :) It also explains why neither Scribbler nor Eir recognize Patch, even after he grows to be a Broadwing and then a Titanwing- if he changes his colors every time he hatches again, then yeah, no wonder they believed there's more than one Chimeragon

I knew what the big twist was going to be at the end because of the playthrough, but MAN does this game not hold its punches. The writers really asked "How can we elevate the Best Friends Forever thing to a whole new level?" and then made Scribbler witness the death and rebirth of his best friend, and now I have to draw these guys with literal tears in my eyes 👍

The sentiment that their friendship literally transcends life and death is so meaningful to me. Patch will continue to die and resurrect, and Scribbler will be there every time to welcome him and forge their bond all over again. The mystery of Scribbler's past, his involvement with Grimmel, and the open ending leave so much room for speculation and theorizing and it's just so incredibly up my alley, it's like it was made in a lab for me lol

This game ended up being a lot darker than I was expecting, but it was honestly so refreshing. The mechanics are simple enough for younger kids to learn, and the artstyle is very evidently targeted at kids as well, but some of the dialogue and the entire theme of death and inevitable loss feels surprisingly mature in contrast. They make you go to Vanaheim and hold a burial for Patch before he resurrects, literally what other kids' game does that?? /pos

Anyways play this game, it's a short and sweet little self-contained adventure, which accomplishes the one task it set out to accomplish: making me cry, specifically

The childlike penmanship and utter abundance of hiragana and katakana that has its own implications aside, I was going to talk about how sweet and sad it was that the only kanji Shouma knows is "mother" (母). But then someone told me he also knows the kanji for "help [me]" (助)...that certainly adds to the context of Shouma's memories of his mother mainly being shrouded in fear

thinking about yassen gregorovich instead of sleeping (because i love him) and how he is a catalyst. yassen stabbs ash -> ash kills john rider -> ian rider raises alex -> yassen kills ian rider -> mi6 blackmails alex into becoming a teenage spy.

i have so many thoughts that i can't properly articulate. obviously this is a simplified chain of events, but yassen and his choices set off a chain reaction of the world's most unfortunate dominos. especially when you read russian roulette. to be clear im not necessarily trying to blame him for everything because that feels very mean. he was also just a 14 year old kid when everything in his life went wrong, just like alex. only difference being yassen literally had no one.

i think i should write an essay about this because i haven't even gotten into my thoughts about what yassen and alex's dynamic would look like past eagle strike. i would imagine it'd be similar to ellie and joel from the last of us part 2.

where obviously yassen loves alex and alex on some level cares for yassen back but struggles to reconcile that with the fact that yassen is responsible for his uncle's death. a very unforgivable act. it would be so messy and complicated and angsty, because on one hand here is an adult who truly cares about him and has a connection with him through his father. yassen could tell alex about john, and trust that yassen truly wants whats best for him. but he killed ian, and he cannot take that back.

while alex reels from those feelings, yassen is also trying to reconcile his love of alex with the knowledge that he on some level is responsible for the suffering alex endured at the hands of mi6. and possibly even the fact that alex's godfather is the one who killed john and helen.

Time for some post-canon Ankheiji! (kissing while crying / goodbye kiss / desperation, ask game)

Hot tears couldn't stop flowing down Eiji's face. Gently rolling across his dimples, which were formed by what was the biggest smile in the entire world. After all these years, Ankh was back. He was finally home with everyone. And with him.

The grip from Eiji's hug was so strong. Holding Ankh close with what almost felt like desperation, as if to make sure the world wouldn't take Ankh away from him again. To make sure they could continue to stand by each other's side from here on out. That nothing could ever separate them again.

Slowly, Ankh wrapped his arms around Eiji in return. With some hesitation. Not from any source of malice, but because he just really didn't know how to navigate hugs. Even after a decade Ankh was still not used to them. There was still a lot about humans he didn't know how to go about with.

But even he admitted deep down, an embrace like this was comforting all the same. It was good to be back.

Eiji spoke up after minutes of near silence, for the sobs of joy, from disbelief of his dream finally coming true. "Ankh... Welcome home." Choked up with a complete whirlwind of emotions. It felt so surreal to finally say those words out loud. They were words that during the lone hours of the night Eiji wondered to himself if he may never have the chance to say out loud.

But the moment he longed for, and that Ankh longed for— it was finally here: The tomorrow with both of them in it.

Looking up at Ankh, Eiji gently placed his hands on his cheeks. Careful to mind those blonde curls that Ankh liked to keep well maintained, and pulled Ankh straight into a kiss. Tears still rolled down his cheeks as Ankh enthusiastically returned it. Kissing him with a decades worth of fervor and excitement.

It was sweet, soft, but also desperate all the same. Still full of passion amidst what was a gentle execution. Ankh could have been rougher with his treatment, typically he was with his kisses. But he actively chose not to go that route this time. Instead deciding to go with the more gentle route for this one.

Because there was time for more heated kisses and moments between them later. Because now they had all the time in the world.

Thanks to this new body which also had the ability to feel the senses, he was able to go all in on taking in the softness of Eiji's lips. Remembering how they were just as soft ten years ago. Enjoying the warmth of the palms on his cheeks. Being able to enjoy all of the sensations of a kiss.

Eiji began to laugh as he wiped at his tears. Then pressing his head against Ankh's, slowly breathing in and out to try and calm himself after being so full of emotion. Ankh just stood still, having a smirk as he took in Eiji's presence. Together they just rested like this for a few moments.

Then Ankh gripped Eiji's face, an all too familiar gesture to him by this point. His talons softly poked into his cheeks. "You better give me today's ice cream, by the way."

Eiji couldn't help but laugh again. Truly, Ankh was home.

No bc Im spreading the rob agenda. You know what Rob/Dob got right?? Flight scenes. Completely put of place the writers were like We Came up with a New Trick so now everyone had to Witness it. And we did every time!! I LOVED them just flyin around doin flips and shit when I was a kid!!!! like opening the first episode with the trick competition??? Every time Riders Of Berk would open a new episode youd get the same music and credits on screen and then BOOM WE'RE FLYING NOW BUCKLE IN BITCHES. I came out of the cinema for the 2nd movie age 6 thinking "that was good but I wish there was more flying". Rob got that right and i stand by thst
