the fool 🤝 jin guangyao being easily the most dynamic and compelling characters in their respective canons, likely for reasons that were substantially if not entirely unintentional on the part of their respective authors
#this thought brought to u by a conversation i had earlier today with confusion-and-more about all the different reasons jgy compels us#and remembering exactly how i felt when i first developed beloved brainrot back in the late 90s/early 00s#did robin hobb intend to write such an iconic queer deuteragonist when she first wrote assassin's apprentice?#just based on the panels i've attended while listening to her talk (and she is a very thoughtful and engaging speaker)#i truthfully don't think so since iirc she didn't intend for the fool to become as integral to the six duchies novels as he became#now try to imagine the six duchies books without him as the fulcrum that balances the weight of the whole narrative#now try to imagine mdzs without jin guangyao and his capacity for tremendous visionary change and also his darkness#also quick note don't read this post and think i'm trying to assert that they're similar characters because i am not#beyond the fact that i do not think that what makes them both so compelling to me#is what either author had in mind (at least consciously) while writing them#that said i'm so glad that they did. bless u robin bless u mxtx#thank you for the gift of the fool and jin guangyao#i don't think i'll ever get over the terminal case of brainrot i have about both of them and i'm fine with that#the fool#jin guangyao#he did crimes??? good for him 😌

Xiè Lián: My surname is Xiè, my first name is Lián. Huā Chéng: You can call me your third husband. Xiè Lián: What happened to my first two husbands?!
I learned Huā Chéng was having Xiè Lián call him "husband" from Ty the Canasian on Kictor's YouTube, I found this when I was trying to corroborate the linguistics, and I indulged and bought the official Seven Seas Entertainment (translator and editor are on Tumblr!) English translations of the books so here's further confirmation from Volume 1:

ETA:
I made this post private because I was unhappy with it (misspelling/misformatting Wúmíng, knowing I wouldn't have good reach for larger and less biased sample size even if I could have tagged better for the fandoms and characters if Tumblr organized by more than the first five tags), but I'm making it public again since it finished and so did the similar poll that fun-mxtx-polls was kind enough to make for me.
Not to bias towards the first option, just to explain it, the first option and why I wanted this poll come from the naming pattern trivia for MXTX's love interests/male leads/gongs, which I think you can best read on Huā Chéng's page on the Heaven Official's Blessing/Tiān Guān Cì Fú wikia. I'm just using that as my citation given:
I'm not sure if MXTX has discussed this meta in-joke somewhere and if so, where.
The SSE Glossary: Terminology note (all volumes of all three MXTX novels) only explains the second and third gongs, and implies MXTX is doing this purposefully. Lán Wàngjī's wikia page explains only the three published gongs, and implies this started from fandom phenomena creating a proto-stage pattern (if you subscribe to "one is chance, two is coincidence, three is a pattern"). Huā Chéng's page linked above is the odd man out and so probably incorrect about Lán-èr-gē vs. Lán-èr-gēge, but it goes above and beyond by explaining the fourth gong, and it uses the most neutral language regarding this trivia.
I think citation is unnecessary for "gē" (哥 | 哥) meaning "big brother" and in certain contexts having the connotation or meaning of "eldest brother" (admittedly my unverified inference), "èr" (二 | 二) meaning "two", and "sān" (三 | 三) meaning "three".
I actually like so much because I like to think if it could use more wordplay and less literalism. Please forgive me for being a poor reader not remembering exactly, not buying the TGCF raws yet, not being able to buy the SVSSS and MDZS raws, and only being able to find old fan translations/interpretations of MXTX's fourth novel preview, but let me explain:
I believe Luò Bīnghé isn't being called "Luò Bīnghé-gē" (or rather "Bīng-gē" since I think? it's more usual to use the suffix with the single/first character of a person's given name, not with their full name, especially when the full name is three (or more? some of my reading has mentioned two-character last names but I didn't find if culture was strict about then making the given name be only one character) characters) for the usual reasons to address someone with "gē", but actually the PIDW!Luò Bīnghé is being called Luò Bīnggē (or "Bīng-gē") because he's more aggressive than canon/SVSSS!Luò Bīnggē who when being differentiated gets called Luò Bīngmèi (or "Bīng-mèi"), and I love that "very fitting reasoning for the naming, not strictly literal and not so bound to literal".
Then with Lán Wàngjī, I see the opportunity that his nickname could have used the natural naming of "erhua is used as a diminutive suffix", and the "er" would have been homophonous with "èr" (二 | 二) for "two" for him being the second gong, and homophonous to the potential "proper address for him as the second Lán son/brother".
In the most literal sense, you'll notice that the gongs so far have had their nicknames be using "(big) brother" and Huā Chéng's uses láng (郎 | 郎) "son" (his stated meaning, although it can also mean "man" and "husband" and the latter is how we can interpret he wanted it to be when coming from Xiè Lián). There's nothing wrong with that and the numbers are perfectly probable, and would still be so as they grow, but also they could feel more like "contrived" coincidence, which is part of my wanting to get away from literalism a little bit, not just my loving clever wordplay. With Huā Chéng, I don't have a homophone I can use for punning like with Lán Wàngjī, or really the "cultural language use where literal suffixes/honorifics get used figuratively for XYZ purposes", but I can make it fit with character interpretation. To me, Sān Láng doesn't have to be "Third Son" because "he has two older brothers" and in fact we aren't sure that he was telling the truth about that—instead, I think Huā Chéng could be being clever with not just getting Xiè Lián to call him (Third/surname "Three") Husband but in saying his name is "Third Man" because this is the third alias he gives Xiè Lián. (Some additional feels this gives me: It's like he's saying he's the same person Xiè Lián met before, that they shared all of that experience and it mattered, that he's the final form of that person wanting to be with Xiè Lián, that he's like a fairy-tale character with many names and forms and a true name and form and all along there was a trick or thread to follow in knowing and identifying him.) It just works out so perfectly because of the third way he introduces himself to Xiè Lián matching him being the third gong, and also the fairy-tale significant number of "three".
Finally, with the fourth gong, I've looked at Suika's TGCF Afterword translation, a NovelUpdates MDZS spoilers forum post by K.san crossposted to the Grim Reapers Have No Days Off spoilers forum by alexfilia, a reply to this post in r/tianguancifu by u/chenmochou, and also this post in r/tianguancifu by u/Loud_Daikon6167 which cites a TikTok I can't see either because of TikTok's thing about opening to a random page/the homepage or I assume the TikTok being removed or locked. Given the first NovelUpdates post maybe having more of a direct translation compared to the first Reddit post, it's still not definitive to me whether this is "actually more of a fandom thing, with MXTX acknowledging and participating in it enough to help make it possible" or it's "MXTX doing this on purpose with her name choices and character traits, whether she meant to have the pattern from the start or later, and yes could have been influenced by fandom" because I think "Other: 四少" is probably about the male lead(s) compared to it following "Protagonist: the uke's name is not determined yet" so it doesn't seem like the fandom came up with a nickname out of whole cloth. "Four young masters" is perfectly probable and could be equally reasonable, and "four ikemen" could even follow in reasonability; in fact it could be more likely and realistic since this is a modern setting, which would have different use of "young master" to me, and because we believe the gong to be the regular human and the shou to be the grim reaper. But for the wordplay, I would have liked it if the gong were the grim reaper and the "four theme naming" came from the famous "sì" (四 | 四) meaning "four" is homophonous with "sǐ" (死 | 死) meaning "die/death" and the latter being used in the Chinese for "grim reaper"/"death god".
#Tian Guan Ci Fu#TGCF#Heaven Official's Blessing#Mo Xiang Tong Xiu#MXTX#I'm sure this joke has already been made since I'm late to fandom as always#but congrats MXTX this is so perfect and I have to make this joke even if it's me jumping on a bandwagon and beating a dead horse#Thank you Netflix subtitles for having the perfect dialogue to make this joke work as compared to the Seven Seas Entertainment publication#and my research says this makes Xiè Lián’s dialogue match how a Chinese person would introduce themself so that's awesome!#Thank you to fandom.com for having more character name information than Wikipedia. Mxtx x male reader
A cross over.
When a modern era young man transmigrated in PIDW that has crossovered with other Novel's such as MDZS & TGCF thing's are bound to be both fun & traumatizing!
-----
Name & Description are different but originally this was on my ao3 some things are arranged to suit it being an X reader. My ao3 is Elijah_Ezra.
TRANSLATION MAY NOT HE ACCURATE.
-- MAIN SHIPS WILL NOT HE CHANGED ( such as hualian , wangxian. )
-- SHEN YUAN IS NOT HERE.
shang qinghua is. I have favorite's.
-- Canon, what canon plot line?
-- Don't like, don't read.
-- Hate towards me or anyone is not tolerated.
-- This is a crossover.
-- A lot of spelling mistakes probably.
-- No upload schedule.
-- What Ships is reader in? I'm aiming for it to be a Liu Qingge X Reader however if this is not liked I take recommendations as well.
THIS IS PIDW TECHNICALLY NOT SVSSS.
• SHEN JIU'S PAST!!!!
• TW FOR THAT. PLEASE, STAY SAFE.
Shen (Name) groans and sighs before getting up from the chair to grab his sword Bǎohù
It was time for the Disciple selection..
He flew down and was immediately greeted by the peak lords he was well liked and loved unlike his elder brother Shen Jiu or also known as Shen Qingqiu.
That’s right he (Last name) ( First Name) , A lazy modern guy , died and transmigrated into PIDW not only that as an OC insert the scum villains younger brother!
Airplane , what kind of messed up tragic sad backstory did you need to give Jiu-Ge?!
Naturally they grew up together which meant his childhood sucked too!
Granted not that bad compared to him as that Qiu Jianluo took a very good liking to him and loved his naïve personality he was rarely beaten.
Which now knowing WHAT Qiu Jianluo liked and was thinking made him want to scream cry and rip off his skin to erase the feeling the skin that was touched by him.
What seemed liked innocent hugged were actually very much not innocent.
years later and after much trauma he became a peak lord!
So, that's that! Yippie hooray for you.
The (History of God's and Ghost's) "神与鬼的历史" (Shén yǔ guǐ de lìshǐ) peak lord!
It is the same ranking as Qing Jing Peak.
In this peak they learned about God’s and Ghost’s that are hidden and roaming around somewhere.
Their cultivation was communication with them.
Some Ghosts would occasionally help them when in need by lending them their strength.
In turn they would also help the ghost move on.
However, this is not safety assured as ghosts can be deceiving.
Shen (Name) would know himself, he’s half possessed by one called SYSTEM who forces him to do certain shit!
{ HOST, QIU JANLUO DID NOT NEED HIS DICK! }
Shen (Name) grimaces remembering that memory when the SYSTEM took control of his body and just chopped off someone’s dick.
‘ You didn’t need to use my body! ‘
{ D: Then, who else would SYSTEM posses? Your brother? No, thanks. }
‘ Die. ‘
{ SYSTEM will die when HOST 002 dies. }
Ah, right. Did he mention the author transmigrated with him?
Airplane Shooting towards the sky transmigrated into Shang Qinghua.
“ Didi, are you alright? You’re frowning. “ Shen Qingqiu asked snapping him out of his thoughts.
He hummed and looked towards the disciples hoping that today he will meet the protagonist Luo Binghe .
Yue QingYuan nodded at him and asked if he will choose a disciple.
Right, He himself rarely accepted new disciples they had to be specific and needed to be blessed or gained the attention of a god or ghost.
But as he looks down no one seems to have the veins that are gold or red.
Gold means a god has noticed them.
Glowing Gold means they have been blessed by one.
Red means a ghost has either noticed them or blessed them.
It was surprising to learn ghosts can bless people.
A ghost’s blessing boosts up your QI similar to the gods blessing but a ghost blessing also gives you luck while God’s give you some protection but not luck that would be on you!
Suddenly again he heard Liu Qingge and Shen Qingqiu fighting which is normal. However, they were fighting over a disciple.
He didn’t feel like getting involved and zoomed out before Shang Qinghua whispered to him.
‘ Bro, Go with Shen QIngqiu that’s Luo Binghe he took! ‘
he glared at Shang Qinghua for not telling him sooner and ran after Shen Jiu.
MEANWHILE…
SO, IT BEGINS TOUGHT A MAN WEARING SIMPLE WHITE ON A THRONE HIGH ABOVE WHERE NO ONE CAN REACH HIM.
THE man was beautiful with long brown hair and warm eyes.
The male wished he can help the poor soul yet, he is not allowed to interfere only drop some helpful information nothing more…
---
His peak was often described as a picturesque peak ( he was very proud of his peak ) adorned with tranquil ponds. The water is crystal clear, reflecting the beauty of the lily pads floating gracefully on the surface.
Koi fish gracefully glide through the water, their vibrant colors adding a touch of elegance.
The croaking of frogs adds a harmonious melody to the scene. The air is filled with the sweet fragrance of blooming flowers, and the sight of fluttering butterflies brings a sense of joy.
The overall ambiance feels inviting and pristine. Even the teachers and classes exude warmth and friendliness. It's a place where one can find solace and inspiration.
Near the peak lord's house you'll see a more beautiful building. The building is a shrine. Inside of it is a statue of the main god they learn about.
However, the statue isn't alone along with it is the God's husband.
The crown prince and also now heavenly emperor Xie Lian & his husband Crimson Rain Sought Flower Hua Cheng.
If you're lucky enough (or you're Shen (Name) ) you'll see silver butterflies flying around.
It make's a wonderful painting , silver Butterflies in the moonlight.
From the outside the shrine has an ornate and elaborate design, with intricate carvings.
Inside the shrine, you'll find a serene and reverent atmosphere.
To the side inside the shrine is a long table where offerings and candle's are lit.
His peak is always calm and right now that's where he wants to be not in his olders brother bamboo house with tension so high he's surprised the kid Luo Binghe hasn't fainted.
' It's the tea scene where he pours hot boiling tea on him ' he thinks.
He wishes he can move from his brother's side yet he can't.
The tea is poured , the child gasps and the master leaves looking back once at his brother.
Shen (Name) immediately goes to the poor disciple.
He grabs the towel from the table and gently wipe away the hot tea.
"I'm sorry, please don't mind my brother."
The child looks up naive brown eyes shining at him.
"N-no shifu it was this Disciples fault."
The peak lord can't help how his heart melts.
Shen (Name) from the past hated this scene and didn't understand why Shen Qingqiu did this. The Shen (Name) who he is now understands.
Luo Binghe's eye's and hair are similiar to Qiu Jianluo.
The child's name make it even worse. Luo Binghe..Luo...
Ning Yingying didn't help either immediately calling him A-Luo...
... something Qiu Haitang used to call her brother Luo-Ge...
Still, it's no excuse to what happened to this child but he can be sympathetic.
He'll show him around himself and leave he can't be absent from his peak but he can visit his brother and this child.
Maybe, in the way he'll see his cute shidi Liu Qingge.
Dropping off Luo Binghe at his dorm's in which he knows he won't be staying there longer Shen (Name) leave's and goes to the shrine.
He needs some advice..
He knows the god probably won't respond but he'll feel his presence and that's enough.

Reading SVSSS: Chapter 21

For those who don't know, I am reading SVSSS for the first time and sharing my thoughts!
If you have not read it, there will be spoilers! Consider this a warning.
Also- if you want to follow along, I am aiming to post updates daily. You can find all the posts in the tag bloopitynoot reads SVSSS. You can also check out the intro post for context on my read.

The last chapter of the story?!?!?!
I will be continuing my notes into the extras-already decided when I started book 1. Once those extras are done though,- pls pls pls I will accept any fanfic recs. I am absolutely ready to get lost in the sauce for the next several months. Send me your absolute favs! I will read the shit out of them.
Today I am back on my tea- this is a lady grey latte :'3
LET'S GOOOOO

Oh man. Thank fuck Shan Qinghua is okay, but Tianlang-jun is looking REAL rough. p272
Not snake boy! him too! p274
Mobei-Jun coming in to save his man 👏 Get it! p276
This story is so annoying. The "big bad" was never even evil. The man just wanted to hang out in the human realm, read poetry, and vibe but the humans were the ones being awful. This story was driven by nonsense the entire time at least in MMDZS the fake evil one was still being orchestrated by an actual evil one. This was just a bunch of fuckery and racism. p277
LOL when I read the big "fight" I was thinking- that's it? Literally all this build up for the fastest fight?? Then two paragraphs later SQQ also said "that's it?"p279 I really do feel bad for Tianlang-jun. He was done so dirty in this. (I do want a buttload of fanfic where he get's a better life and also works to actively set his son up LOL Tianlang-jun biggest Bingqiu shipper).
I still cannot get over that Zhuzhi-lang's mother straight up fucked a snake. p280
Why did this reveal have to be worse :((((( The fact that LBH's mom actually likely cared for Tianlang-jun but was imprisoned by the OPM, was too late to get to Tianlang-jun, and forced to drink poison. :((( uuuuuuuugh. p282-283
Holy shit! Luo Binghe is the one who is actually powering the realm merge!!! p286
Baby Luo Binghe this behaviour is so toxic :'( p289-291

Are you kidding me. :( Why Yue Qingyuan!!! Xuan Su actively drains his life force whenever he uses it. p296
and we get the reveal that Yue Qingyuan was the pal who promised to come back and save Shen Jiu. uuuugh my heart, why am I so emotional about this. p297
The most bittersweet system notifications rn, so upsetting. Bro is about to lose the only things he's grown to care about in this second life and they are just listing achievements for what pp298-299
I know Yue Qingyuan is in a bad way but I really am rooting for him. Good on SQQ for not giving YQY his last wish. I need this softy to pull through. p301
Oh no! BInghe is hallucinating now :(((((( the sword has totally fucked him with demonic qi. :((( p307
I always love when we get a scenario pusher- it really "pushes" SQQ's boundaries p307
OMG. Well. That's not a small scenario pusher!!!! What is it with MXTX always having her male protags fuck dry 🤮🤮 This is not cute, and I totally understand it is a "fuck or die" scenario but omg RIP SQQ's asshole. How is this both kind of tender and absolutely horrific :((((((( 🤮🤮 pp310-311
This is actually so terrible :( my heart what the fuck :( Luo Binghe reached out, wanting to touch him but also not daring to. His hand remained frozen in midair as he muttered, "Shi...zun?" Once he heard Luo Binghe call him "Shizun" as normal, Shen Qingqiu seemed to come alive, and he gasped in a breath. Unfortunately, due to how strained this breath was, it almost sounded like a sob. Luo Binghe was stunned, "Shizun...what...What did I do?" p314
aaaaand the Jade Guanyin :(((((((( p315
Bless the system for getting me out of the choke hold that this scene had me in. I truly thought everyone was about to die. pp318-320

I'm dead LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL I clocked it many chapters ago with my jokes that SQQ was actually changing the genre and was really the bawdy love interest. He really did though XD ahahahaha p323
Thank fuck everyone (at least LBH and SQQ) are alive! I thought they would have killed LBH afterwards or with the state of his mental health, he would kill himself but thankfully he is not dead. p327
YAY! We have Yue Qingyuan alive as well! p329
Incredible. Shen Qinghua wanted this ending as well but decided to sell out for finances. Bless that this guy got to see his favorable ending play out LOL p333
oh!!! Tianlang-jun is also alive!! p335
My heart! SQQ to LBH " Of course what this master most wanted to see first was you!" p339
We hit the end of the main story!
Some final thoughts- that felt really abrupt. Like it just ended very fast. These two really have a strange relationship (I am sure more happens in the extras but as is stands it is still so ambiguous). Nary a real declaration of love, and their intimate moments were all fabricated by other situations or a product of deceit. I am excited to dig into the extras to see more about their relationship.
#bloopitynoot reads svsss#svsss spoilers#mxtx svsss#svsss#scum villans self saving system#scum villain#we finished the main story!#What a ride of a chapter

Hi Lettered, I’m a big fan & watched The Untamed to better understand your two fics :) Is there anything I should know about the source material for your new work? Can I read it without background info? Thank you for sharing with us!!!
I'm so glad you like my fics! I hope you liked The Untamed!
Both of my (big) fics for The Untamed (Say More and Time Signature) can be read without canon knowledge, as they are complete AUs set in the real world.
My newest fic (The New Cultivation Method) is based on Heaven Official's Blessing (Tian Guan Ci Fu, TGCF for short), which a web novel by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (MXTX). (MXTX also wrote The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, aka MDZS, the web novel upon which The Untamed is based.) My new fic is canon compliant and deals directly with canon events. I don't think it can be read without background info.
If you still want to read the fic without reading the source material, here is a brief summary of the book as well as some basic info you need for the fic. I put additional info about the book behind the cut, as it contains spoilers, but I hope said spoilers might entice you to read the book, given that it's amazing! That said, if you only watched The Untamed and haven't read a xianxia novel, I would recommend starting with Scum Villain's Self Saving System, as it is actually a meta novel starting in the real world, and it's very short and quite the page turner.
Basic summary: TGCF is about a prince, Xie Lian, who was so martially talented, he ascended to heaven and became a god. However, when Xie Lian descended to help his kingdom's people through a time of war and strife, he was banished from heaven. After a short time he ascended once more due to his spectacular heroism, but very shortly after that, he was banished a second time. After his second banishment, Xie Lian wanders the earth, unlucky and obscure, for 800 years before ascending to heaven a third time.
Throughout the book you learn quite a bit more backstory about his ascensions and banishments. The forestory is about Xie Lian's various missions after his third ascension--either quests to help friends, save people, or to obey the Emperor of Heaven. On these missions Xie Lian repeatedly encounters Hua Cheng, a dangerous god-slaying ghost.
Basic info for the fic: The fic is Xie Lian/Hua Cheng, and largely centers around Xie Lian choosing a new cultivation method (cultivation is basically magic in the xianxia genre. Xianxia is a genre of Chinese fantasy that involves cultivators--magicians, basically--and immortals). Xie Lian's canonical cultivation method includes sexual abstinence, so his decision to give up that method in that fic is supposed to obviously mean he really wants to have sex. I had him decide to give up his old cultivation method in favor of dual cultivation; dual cultivation is a method in the xianxia genre wherein cultivators have sex to strengthen their cultivation.
Further book spoilers:
In TGCF, the backstory is that Hua Cheng was a young boy who was saved by Xie Lian multiple times. Hua Cheng decided to dedicate his life to Xie Lian. He died fighting in a war for Xie Lian's kingdom. He not only worships Xie Lian as a god, but is deeply, obsessively in love with him.
In this world, people come back as ghosts if they have a strong enough purpose that ties them to the mortal world--say, they want revenge against someone who killed them. There are three ways ghosts get destroyed: they fulfill or lose their purpose, the ashes of their mortal body get destroyed, or the ghost's spiritual energy is dispersed. Dispersing a ghost means tearing apart through extreme violence or sucking out their spiritual energy so that it can't gather again.
Hua Cheng's dedication to Xie Lian was so strong that this purpose brought him back as a ghost, where he continued to try to stand by Xie Lian's side and help him with anything Xie Lian needed help with. Right before Xie Lian's second ascension, Hua Cheng was dispersed.
But Hua Cheng's purpose was unnaturally strong, meaning he rather spectacularly survived dispersal, and he came back yet again. He became one of the most powerful ghosts in existence, destroyed gods who had previously insulted Xie Lian, and looked for Xie Lian for 800 years, only locating Xie Lian once more when Xie Lian ascends a third time.
They go through quite a lot together in the book. Xie Lian eventually realizes Hua Cheng is the young boy (and young ghost) from his own past. He also realizes that Hua Cheng loves him and has been obsessed with him his whole life. This is quite all right with Xie Lian, who rather likes him back.
Right at the end of the book, there is a big battle, and Hua Cheng is dispersed a second time trying to help Xie Lian. Xie Lian begs Hua Cheng not to leave him, and Hua Cheng promises Xie Lian that he will survive dispersal once again and come back.
Xie Lian waits a year. At the very end of the book, Xie Lian comes home to a house he has built for them, and finds Hua Cheng waiting outside the door. The book ends there, and my fic is about their reunion, mostly with porn.
If you're looking for some really dirty porn, this isn't it. They are both so, so so excited to be having sex that they both repeatedly come more quickly than they mean to and lose any sense of chill either of them ever had.

I feel like Erha is massively underrated in the danmei community. Most people know MXTX and her work and stay in her little corner.
Which is sad given how glorious Erha is (to me). And no, I am not being mad at people liking MXTX. While I believe she is kinda overrated I absolutely stan people loving what they love no matter the quality.
I just wish people got over the mid vol 1 of Erha and discovered the absolute bomb the character development of Mo Ran is, the pain of pining of two idiots and the horror of 3799 steps.
I love Mo Ran and Chu Wanning dearly, because they aren't black and white characters. The whole story is hilarious and painful at the same time.
And again - if you love MXTX as the best danmei author it's absolutely correct opinion. Just because this salty bitch thinks her books could use improvement it doesn't mean jack shit ;)
If you read the whole thing, thank you for reading my TEDtalk and I wish you all the blessing heavenly officials can give.

Dancing through the night
@incorrectly-quoting-mxtx here is the ficlet that resulted from your prompt marinating in my brain for the past two days. Thank you for the wait and the sweet words, I hope you like this!
If any of you have any ideas you'd like me to write, feel free to mention me in a post and I may write it if the inspiration gods bless me!
---
"Is there anything you can't do to perfection?" Wei Wuxian begins, a fond look in his eyes and a teasing smile on his lips as he and his husband walk into their inn suite. "I don't think there's anything you don't excel at!"
Lan Wangji's eyes color a light pink at that as he sits at the table, a pot of wine awaiting, courtesy of the innkeeper.
Though he is used to hearing such words left and right, praise an appanage of his reputation, his heart always stutters whenever Wei Wuxian sets on a tirade about how great his Hanguang-Jun is. The words flow so easily out of him, like he's laying out obvious facts that anybody would see, poorly pretending to be unaware of the effect he has on Lan Wangji. It hasn't been a rare occurence for the man to have to shut Wei Wuxian up with kisses - otherwise he would have gone on for hours, waxing poetic about his husband's everything.
However, tonight is going to go different.
"There is something." Lan Wangji responds, pouring a cup of wine for Wei Wuxian, who gratefully downs it before taking his seat on Lan Wangji's lap, arms coming to circle his neck loosely. The closeness is both comforting and electric, eyes locked lovingly.
"What could there be that the great, unparalleled Hanguang-Jun hasn't mastered yet?" Wei Wuxian asks, letting one of his hands cup Lan Wangji's face, thumb stroking his cheek.
"Dancing."
"Oh?" Wei Wuxian feigns shock, "We cannot let such a simple skill evade someone as amazing as you, can we?"
Lan Wangji lets his hands caress over Wei Ying's thighs, parting robes. "Hm? What do you suggest?"
"Fortunately for you, I am an amazing dancer, and I can teach you!"
Before Lan Wangji can protest, Wei Wuxian pulls him up to his feet, and he has to catch himself out of the saccharine sweetness of having been held and holding his beloved before he falls flat on his face.
"We need music." Lan Wangji attempts a protest, though his hands come to rest around Wei Wuxian's slim waist nevertheless.
Wei Wuxian smiles, winding his arms around Lan Wangji again and begins humming a familiar tune, his voice melodious around the unspoken lyrics. He urges Lan Wangji to move, steps slow and close together, a simple sequence of moving together into an imaginary circle.
Lan Wangji's brows furrow in concentration, and Wei Wuxian finds the sight adorable enough to let a small giggle escape him before he leans to leave a butterfly kiss on the tip of his husband's nose. He stops humming to do it, and Lan Wangji stills, embarrassed.
"Wei Ying. The music."
"You know it too."
Lan Wangji wraps an arm around Wei Wuxian's waist, firmer, and fills up the tiny space between them. He picks up the song where Wei Ying left off, and tries to mirror the movements Wei Wuxian just showed him.
He thinks of the way he composed that song, how easily it had come to him and how difficult it had been for him to understand what he was feeling for this annoying, rule-breaking, intelligent, beautiful man that's now his companion for life.
He thinks of how he hummed this song thinking of him, when he was missing, when he wasn't himself, when he died.
He thinks of how he'd sang it as lullaby for A-Yuan.
He thinks of how it had been the first song Wei Ying played when he returned.
They move in tandem to their song, little circles around the wide room, and some time between gazing at his beloved like he hung the moon and the stars in the sky, and delighting in how easily he picked up those simple movements, Wei Wuxian joins in the duet.
They hum and dance like that for a while, unhurried, enjoying one another and the memories they had with their song, adding yet another one to cherish with Wangxian as a background melody.
One day, perhaps, they'd write a sequel.

First post!!! <3
This is a first post and those are really special in my opinion so I want to try and make this as special as possible.
Firstly, Hi I'm a dumbass who can't pick an online name for the life of me. For now I'm going to say Joseph and I'll explain why in a second. I'm a college student (who is for some reason in art even though I can't draw for shit) I go by He/They pronouns but to be fair I don't really care what's used on my those are just the preferred ones. I've been published once in a young writers competition (it's a regional one that still manages to be shit(they didn't give us a book copy after making us pay for one and they didn't give the prize :()). In that same vein, I did (kinda, not actually. I did kinda pass I was like less than 3 marks off) fail my English but the school system is wack so-
I'm a big fan of Fantasy and such and I'm developing a love of learning mythology of all kinds. I like drawing(Hence why I'm in art), musicals(Listening to Hamilton while writing this 😋✌️), Writing and reading obvs and I do switch hyperfixations every once in a while.
As for why I chose Joseph as a temporary name is because I tend to dream my stories, most I write comes from a dream I have and Seph(Taking this nickname for myself thank you 😋)did the same thing so I thought it'd be ironic
Current book WIP intro thingy idk:
As previously mentioned in my bio, I'm an aspiring writer, so I thought I'd drop the plot basic of the book that drove me here in the first place. It doesn't have a name yet(Yay naming sucks 🎉) so bare with me on this. Before I get into it just remember that this is a beta and a lot could change.
It starts with our protagonist, Samael or Sam, who is hosting a fallen demon/ ghost lord in his body and has been doing it since birth. One day he gets (forcibly)dropped into a group with 3 other people to handle a growing problem. There's a zombie overgrowth. These things aren't exactly zombies but are currently called so because there is a lack of better words, they don't infect people just mass genocide wherever they go. Their numbers grow because they papapa like bunnies, not needed for the story but I thought it was a funny bit of context to have the people assume they infect when they actually don't. Anyway they are tasked with enlisting the 7 heavenly virtues and 7 deadly sins. Which- okay? (It doesn't make sense now but it's a beta!) So they set out to get the 14 and to try to understand where these came from and it turns out to be a bigger can of worms than they signed up for. Now their tangled in the silky threads of Misunderstanding, Blurry pasts, betrayals and honey-coated woodland dangers. I think if I give out more it'd spoil the story. I kinda wanna add a romance side plot but tell me what you guys think about that
But I plan for this to rival even the best D&D campaign. There'll (hopefully) be Faes, Dragons, Orcs, Badgers, Goblins, Ghosts etc. I want this to be a mix of every Mythology I know so I'll try as hard as I can to implement it into the plot for a bit more flavor.
I have so much already done. I'm currently working on the naming and classifying everything from locations to characters to lore. This is at the straight beginning of production
Inspiration
I'm going to note the inspirations because they're really important too
Harry Potter
Genshin Impact
MXTX books(specifically Svsss and Heaven official's blessing (I haven't yet read grand master of demonic cultivation))
My dreams(the og ᕦ(•̀ o •́ )ᕤ)
List will grow with time
Dear Svsss fans should I add papapa to save the world?
Dear everyone reading this please drop pros and cons in books so I can know what tropes, stereotypes etc to look into and /or avoid or just some ideas and tips
Ending
I thank everyone who read through this mess and I really hope this convinces you to hope in for a catastrophic shipwreck of an idea. I really want to get like a small group for the book(Bookblr community please receive this gift with glee) before I try publishing it because publishing is expensive(and I'm a college student with no income 😞) especially self- publishing so I just wanna be cautious. Also it's good to have people just as excited about something as you are, I think it helps build moral or something psychology lol. I know to do that though I have to work really hard, I would have had more about the book to give but I wanted to write this quickly cause I was so excited.
I'm going to be using this blog for updates and just random quote drops. Anyway I hope that this was a satisfactory!!
Gonna reference the Svsss crew again, should I just become a bootleg airplane bro- like Ship/Boat into the horizon or something.😋

Danmei Rec Meme!
*Thank you @endless-season for this tag. I know you tagged my main account, but I'll post my answer on my reading blog.
How long have you been into danmei, how did you get into it / what was your first danmei? I actually answered some of this in another post here. Officially I guess I been into danmei for 6 years.
Favourite danmei? Also in the previous post but I can list them here. Mo Dao Zu Shi by MXTX (The start of it all 😍) Scum Villain's Self Saving System by MXTX Cerulean Planet by Chu Tu Captivity by Tui How to Survive as a Villain by Yi Yi Yi Yi The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have To Be in True Love by Tui The Disabled Tyrant's Pet Palm Fish [Transmigration] by Xueshan fei hu Mistakenly Saving the Villain by Feng Yu Nie Kaleidoscope of Death by Xi Zixu Devil Venerable Wants to Know by Qing Se Yu Yi Married Thrice to a Salted Fish by Bikabi The Earth is Online by Mo Chen Huan Mist Unlimited by Wei Feng Ji Xu *Actually this is a new one
Favourite couples / characters? Couples: Of course MXTX couples included Yue Wuhuan x Song Qingshi (Mistakenly Saving the Villain) Jiang Xing x Lin Qingyu (Married Thrice to Salted Fish) Qin Jin x You Huo (Global Examination) Jianing x Jiayun (Cerulean Planet) Ye Qingling x Wu Zhi (Captivity) Xiu x Du Ze (The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have To Be in True Love) Wenren x Yin Hanjiang (Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know) Song Qinglan x Ji Yushi (Mist unlimited) Fu Wendou x Tang Mo (The Earth is Online) Character: Wei Wuxian (MDZS) Shen Qingqiu (svsss) Nero (After the Disabled Tyrant Differentiated into an Omega) *There is probably more that I’m not thinking about in the moment lol
Most recently read danmei? Heaven Official Blessing that I'm reading with a friend. How to Feed an Abyss! Part of a danmei club I joined on discord.* This is very cute so far. MC is baby. I'm also supposed to be reading Dragon Blood and Eternities Unsaid Till You Love Me for another danmei reading club I joined on discord.
Any favourite authors? Basic but I really like MXTX. Also Tui.
Any popular danmei you aren't particularly a fan of? Breaking Through the Clouds or PoYun. Kind of not a fan of cops story ACAB lol I can be easily convinced sometimes tho. I wasn't going to read The Husky and His White Cat Shizun, but friend is, so I decided to try it out.
Anything you've been meaning to read but still haven't? Little Mushroom, Golden Terrance... honestly I have a lot on my tbr 500+ more for the future lol
Choose a random (the weirder and baitier, the better) memorable scene/danmei to describe! My favorite scene I always remember is in How To Survive as Villain, I think it was the confession scene. The main character ask the male lead "Do you like me in a brother way or like to fuck me?"
Are there any particular genres/tropes you enjoy / don't enjoy? Aka - any useful info for people to send you recs ;D? I think I like a lot of tropes, but I can be picky too. (I do like wife chasing crematorium tho) Basically I would say just go for your recommendation. There's a small chance I've read it.
Any recommendations to give? Badly describe them in a few sentences. (Or however you like, your choice.) Cerulean Planet is slime tentacle alien bf. (please read tags and the reviews on novel update). The Disabled Tyrant's Pet Palm Fish [Transmigration] playing as a fish and having to seduce a human.
Tag with #danmeirecmeme for posterity!

A Mirror of Siblings
I will start this by adding the disclaimer that this is more ramblings than an actual analysis essay. I will do my best to sound coherent. I will also warn that this will contain spoilers from Mo Dao Zushi and Heaven Official’s Blessing as well as mentions of suicide. If any of these are a red flag for you, I highly advise either coming back another time or not reading this at all. For those who have decided to read this random fan’s ramblings to the end, I thank you for your time.
Being fairly new to the world of MXTX danmei, I have begun to notice that each of the author’s work contains a small reflection of relationships in her other novels. Quan Yizhen and Yin Yu can be seen as a mirror of Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu — both pairs struggle with communication to get their feelings across as well as having a Master & Pupil relationship where the pupil values their master above all others. However, these are not exact reflections. Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu do not have any actual animosity towards each other — though they believe there is some animosity there due to their terrible communication. Their conflict is resolved once they finally communicate their actual intentions. Luo Binghe does not want the only person who showed him compassion and kindness to leave his side while Shen QingQiu just wants to keep all he loves and cares about safe — including Binghe. Yin Yu, on the other hand, does have actual animosity towards Quan Yizhen. Due to his disciple’s inability to read the room, Quan Yizhen has unintentionally and unknowingly caused Yin Yu trouble and grief. The former god of the west has every reason to not like Quan Yizhen, and those frustrations are fully revealed to the current god of the west when both are held captive by Jun Wu. Yizhen is frot with guilt and now only wants to work things out so that they can be close like before.
These reflections of other relationships give an interesting perspective into how certain things could have been different if the characters made the slightest difference in their choices. I find this most evident when comparing two famous pairs of siblings in the MXTX novels. Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng and Shi Qingxuan and Shi Wudu have very complicated relationships, but they are a reflection as to how far a sibling is willing to go for their family member. Both have an older brother making a sacrifice to save the younger. Both sacrifices have a hefty price to go with it. Both sacrifices were kept from the younger sibling until the consequences of their actions caught up with them. Yet a question remains... Did both Wei Wuxian and Shi Wudu’s sacrifices succeed in what they set out to accomplish?
Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng lost everything when the Wen Clan came to massacre everyone in Lotus Pier. Wei Wuxian feels at fault because his actions during the Night Hunt of the Xuanwu Slaughter were used as an excuse to invade Lotus Pier. It was important to him that, at the very least, Jiang Cheng survived this ordeal. Unfortunately, Jiang Cheng’s mental state had different plans. The young master of Lotus Pier had quickly discovered that he has lost his golden core — the very source of his cultivation. Even if he survived this ordeal, he had nothing to live for. Wei Wuxian saw this and made a choice. Give up his golden core to his younger brother so that he may continue to live. A sacrifice that takes away his cultivation and leaves him with no choice down the line but to turn to demonic cultivation.
Shi Qingxuan and Shi Wudu are both children of a wealthy merchant and had privileged lives until the family fell into decline and they could only rely on each other. Shi Qingxuan was cursed with a terrible fate thanks to the Reverend of Empty Words. They escaped the curse for a while by having Shi Qingxuan disguise himself as a woman, but the Reverend eventually found him — causing both siblings to suffer from Shi Qingxuan’s cursed fate. Shi Wudu made a choice. After he ascended, he switched Shi Qingxuan’s fate with Scholar He Xuan’s — making it possible for the younger brother to ascend and become the Wind Master. This choice granted Shi Qingxuan a privileged fate and led to him becoming one of the more powerful and well liked gods in the heavenly capital. However, this also led to the creation of Black Water Submerging Boats — one of the Four Calamities. When the consequences of this first choice come to bite the siblings, Shi Wudu makes another choice and gives up his life for Shi Qingxuan.
Wei Wuxian and Shi Wudu have proven they would do anything for their younger sibling to live the life they thought they deserved to have. They both also completely neglected telling their younger siblings about their decisions. Wei Wuxian kept it secret knowing that Jiang Cheng’s pride would not allow it — that his younger brother would internalize this decision as a final “one up” on how much better Wei Wuxian is than him. Wei Wuxian’s sacrifice would hang over every single action and achievement Jiang Cheng performed as Sect Leader. Shi Wudu kept it secret knowing his brother would not approve of the method to change his fate — that someone else would have to suffer to give Shi Qingxuan the life of luxury he has now. Both brothers ignored their younger sibling’s ability to consent to these decisions that impacted their entire lives, but unlike Shi Wudu, an argument can be made in Wei Wuxian’s defense. When Jiang Cheng revealed that he had lost his golden core to Wei Wuxian, he was borderline suicidal. He says to his brother “Wei Wuxian, why did you save me? What’s the point of
saving me? To let me live on uselessly while I watch the Wen dogs run rampant?”
Though Jiang Cheng did let himself be captured to save Wei Wuxian, he also lost the will to live. He did not think there was a point if he did not have a golden core to get his revenge against the Wen Clan. It could very much be argued that Jiang Cheng was in no state of mind to give consent on something, in Wei Wuxian’s eyes, that could save his life. Shi Qingxuan, however, was not in a similar situation. In Heaven Official’s Blessing, it is not stated how old Shi Qingxuan was when Shi Wudu switched his fate with He Xuan’s. It is only known that it happened sometime after Shi Wudu ascended. The price for Shi Qingxuan’s change in fate was He Xuan’s entire family, good standing in his community, and life — something that Shi Qingxuan never would have wanted. When He Xuan is seeking his revenge, it was clear to him that the young god never made this choice to begin with. All of the blame lies on Shi Wudu. In the end, He Xuan offers up a choice. Have Shi Qingxuan switch his fate with one of the miserable people in his lair, or have the Wind Master kill his brother. Shi Qingxuan readily gives up his fate, but this choice is also ripped from him by his older brother.
Shi Wudu angrily tells his Shi Qingxuan after the younger told him that he could not take the second option, “Don’t you know me? You think I can do it—lose everything and be forced to watch you become a filthy wretch?! You might as well infuriate me to death!” He ignores the fact that Shi Qingxuan rather have a miserable fate and live than lose his brother. Even goes as far as to strangle Shi Qingxuan — rather to have his younger brother die than see him suffer.
This moment is framed as Shi Wudu doing everything for his brother, so that his brother would never have to make such hard choices. That this is a choice made out of love for his brother’s survival, but Shi Wudu blatantly ignoring his brother’s pleas also frames his choices more selfishly. He cried out that he is the master of his fortune even if fate denies him, but in the process has harmed the lives of innocents and the one person he wanted to protect.
Wei Wuxian and Shi Wudu love their younger brothers dearly; to the point of sacrificing everything for them. Wei Wuxian sacrifices his cultivation so that Jiang Cheng may live while Shi Wudu sacrifices someone else’s fate and his life so that Shi Qingxuan can continue to live the life he has. Jiang Cheng got his revenge against the Wens. He rebuilt Lotus Pier, and eventually reformed a tentative relationship with his brother in the end after learning the truth. Shi Qingxuan lost his brother and his spiritual power. He no longer is the god he once was. All he is left with is the guilt of the consequences of Shi Wudu’s actions. He also defied his brother in the end and became that “filthy wretch” Shi Wudu did not want him to be. Wei Wuxian succeeded because of his selfless actions. Shi Wudu reveals just how badly things could have possibly gone if Wei Wuxian acted more selfishly.
And that’s it for my ramblings. I hope I was able to get my thoughts across ok and not just speak nonsense. I would love to hear other people’s arguments for or against this take as well. I’m also just happy to have this out of my brain. Thank you for taking the time to read.
