"There's this burger joint I know. It’s a bit far, but their food is good and cheap," he suggested. His tone exuded excitement, and as you listened to him, you noticed the excited tone, which for some reason made you equally excited as well.

"Sure! That sounds great. I don’t have any other plans, so we can take our time," you replied just as eagerly.

Akaza looked over to you for a minute, catching the pretty smile plastered on your face. Without his permission, his heart skipped a beat, and warmth seeped through his veins, softening his usually stoic demeanor.

Today, with the sun shining brightly and the breeze feeling wonderful against your skin, Akaza allowed himself to let his guard down just a bit and let his inhibitions win for once and just this once.

"It's decided, then."

With a fond smile, he nodded at you before stepping on the gas, determined to get you to the burger joint he enthusiastically vouched for.

Still lost in your own little world as you enjoyed your meal, a spark twinkled in Akaza's eyes as he listened to you.

"Maybe you've been here before, but you can't remember. I mean, if my schedule were as hectic and loaded as yours, I'd also forget stuff every now and then."

"It's a date," you giggled. Then you turned to Akaza and said, "You can go ahead and rest now, Akaza. Thank you so much for today."

"Yes, madam," he replied before bowing and retreating to his room at the far end of the mansion, beside Kokushibo and the maids' quarters.

Nanami knows this, and his heart fills with dread and guilt.

He’s forced to travel for an emergency trip, and unfortunately, there's nothing he can do about it. His job is tasking, his bones ache, and he’s been sporting a headache for three out of the four days that he has been gone. His body feels as if it is about to deflate--as if he is nothing but waste.

He hates this feeling immensely. The dread of leaving the comfort of his four walls; the dread of leaving you, the person that makes the world go round. You hang the stars that Nanami stares at each day he misses you. The sun that burns his skin has never, and will never, be as bright as the smile that stretches on your lips whenever you see him. And no medication could take away the ache in his body and mind as well as your kisses do.

Nanami knows this, and that's exactly why he's pacing on a dirty sidewalk at 4 PM and contacting a flower shop near your apartment.

“Yes, miss, the bouquet of pink roses would be perfect.”

“No white roses?” the lady beckons, “they’d be beautiful with the pretty pink of the flowers.”

Nanami holds back an annoyed groan. He knows what he wants, and he curses the creation of marketing and the persuasive nature of the flower shop owner.

“Yes, I’m sure. The roses have a specific meaning that I’m trying to convey,” he lets out much more than necessary.

The conversation is civil from there on out: Nanami gives the woman your address and a note to be attached to the bouquet. He pays her, and she says her “thank you” and “please contact us soon!”

“Wait, baby, why are you crying? You don't like them? I can always send you others, you know?”

Another laugh escapes you, but this time, it’s genuine.

“No, you dumbass, I’m crying because I have the most thoughtful boyfriend in the world and I don't even know how to thank him without bursting into a puddle of tears.”

Nanami smiles. It's not often that your resolve crumbles, but when it does, you become a hotspot for tears and affectionate words. He’s adjusted to your small habits, knowing how to treat you when shy words fall from your lips.

Today, however, he decides to tease.

“Treat me when I get back?” His tone is sultry, smooth like none other, bringing shivers down your spine.

You’re a wonder, my love. Your heart, your mind, your soul; all an enigma to a man so infiltrated with love and adoration. I wish I could convey the raw emotion I feel for you every passing second. My biggest fault is my inability to do so. You know me well, and you know that my confession would only lead to stumbling words and stutters (and you know much I hate sounding like a fool).
