helloooooooo cass, happy wincest wednesday! supernatural canon is incredibly undecided on this matter, so i want to know YOUR headcanons for what language(s) sam and dean have studied! do you think they have overlap anywhere, or would they divide and conquer? 🤔 i think about this so often, so i want to know other people's opinions too :)
Ok so I'm gonna preface this by I actually don't know much about languages in general, so I had to do research to come to a lot of these conclusions, but I don't know much about languages so I guess take all this with a grain of salt and the knowledge that I should most definitely be asleep.
So I have a couple of conclusions (and just fun possibilities) about the languages both of them would probably have ended up knowing and continued learning.
Tldr version:
I think Sam starts out fluent in being able to read Latin, Dean starts out at a "conversational" level of speaking Latin, and over time Sam grows to be just as capable as Dean at speaking Latin out loud or better while Dean remains at the same level.
I think Sam took Hebrew in college because he had to take a language to fulfill his electives and he was interested in reading original Abrahamic religious transcripts.
I think Sam picked up being able to read some Germanic language, possibly German, but possibly an older Germanic that I cannot name (I don't know how to read the language root charts, I've been staring at multiple of them and I can't figure them out, I'm so sorry...).
Long most definitely sleep deprived thought dump below.
1)So they both know Latin, but at different mastery levels. My basic conclusion for this is that most of the incantations I remember seeing in the show was in Latin or Enochian (this wasn't one of the things I did research on so I'm basing that solely off my memory) meaning that Latin would be a basic language hunters would have in their toolkits. I think however, that Sam started out with a better mastery of reading Latin than in pronouncing it out loud or using it, and Dean started out with the opposite. My main basis for that is that growing up, Sam was delegated to research more, whereas Dean spent more time with John out hunting, and so I think Sam had more chances to use his knowledge of Latin by reading old manuscripts, whereas Dean rarely needed to read Latin the way Sam had to growing up, so I think he has a decent ability to pronounce and speak Latin out loud, but he has a difficult time reading it.
I've read a lot of fics where Dean is not able to even really speak any Latin with any sense of ease, and I will say I don't think this is fully accurate. Dean has a tendency to play up his rough, uneducated exterior but when presented with areas of interest, he seems to consume knowledge just as rapidly as Sam. (Ex. he mentions reading Vonnegut and when presented with Samuel Colt's journal he is just as excited as Sam is about being able to read it, enough so he doesn't let Sam read it and says "get your own")
So in this case, I think Dean would be decent at understanding how to at least pronounce correctly basic Latin, because it's an extension of hunting, specifically an extension of hunting that denotes action (speaking Latin out loud would only be used in incantation, not research) and I think whether he truly enjoyed the process of learning it itself, he'd be as devoted to knowing enough Latin to use reliably as he was with any other areas of hunting.
I do think however, Dean is not interested in being able to reliably read Latin, because I think he and Sam are both used to their delegated roles that they're played since childhood, Sam that of the family researcher, and Dean that of the main body/protector.
Sam on the other hand would most likely become just as proficient in speaking Latin out loud as Dean after Stanford and as he grew into his role of working side by side with Dean in the field, but he'd never lose his proficiency with reading Latin because he never left the research role.
2)I think Sam would have a pick of many languages when he went to Stanford to choose to take for electives (he did, I looked up all their language programs and it's an impressive list), and he could've taken something like Latin that he already had practice in, but I think this would not have been in character for Sam with the way he seems to enjoy but also place a sense of control and worth in his ability to learn new things. So Latin would've been thrown out as a possibility. The reason I think he would've found Hebrew interesting enough to consider is again Sam's interest in god and religion. In the show Sam was a religious man from childhood, who was nondenominational, while still clearly holding base beliefs from Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam), such as a belief in a singular god and in angels. On a meta level, I think this has to do with the fact that they tried specifically through the show to make it so that Supernatural while often centering on religious/theological subjects, was not a show making a religious message, and Sam being overly interested and practicing from one religion specifically would have swayed it towards that direction. That being said though, Sam does still show a clear interest in both religion and specifically Abrahamic religions. So, if Stanford required him to take language electives, and required him to take other electives that would include the possibility of religious classes, I think Sam would be intrigued not only in taking classes that discuss Abrahamic religions, but being the kind of person he is and already being used to researching and reading through old manuscripts, would think to pair Hebrew with said electives so he could read original documents himself.
3)Ok so this last one I did try to do research, but as stated above, I do not know how to read the language root charts. Feel free to infodump to me about those in a later date if that if something you like Ciel, because I wouldn't mind understanding better, but I couldn't make much heads or tails of them. What I could figure out though is that if Sam already knew Hebrew, and Latin, then he would know two languages that gave him some basic jumping ground to other branches. Latin for the romance languages and Hebrew for the Semitic languages. I think when Sam realized that this gave him a possible jumping ground for translating texts and manuscripts in similar languages, he would want to learn more base language roots. I looked up a chart of every monster Sam and Dean fought in the first five seasons to try to figure out what kind of theological system many of their monsters would come from, and most of them actually seem to be Abrahamic leaning, because they have ties to demons. When they are not tied to demons they seem to be.....all over the place honestly. I ended up writing a list of all the non Abrahamic monsters (not demons or angels) they fought season 1-5 and listing their theological origins and the language roots for those and.....dude they're all different and it wasn't helpful at all.
Tumblr media
So I'm honestly just saying a germanic root because 1) Sam already knows English and 2) they fight one monster that has Norse theological roots.
Hopefully all of that made sense, I'm not convinced I am speaking English at this point and I really really need to go to bed, but I wanted to answer this and it turned into a rabbit hole lol

Black Butler & Celtic Legend Part 1 - The Omen of The Dragons
Alright y'all, back on my medieval French Celtic literature shit. Excuse my ADHD ass hopping from theory to theory. I'm excited and sad about this one as it's my prediction for Undertaker's final fight - and it's not looking so good 😞
In Part 2 of my French Crown Jewels Series I theorized that Undertaker is in possession of some of the gemstones he recovered from the Order of the Golden Fleece insignia for Louis XV. This contains, among other gems, the original diamond from which the Phantomhive family ring was made (referred to as The Hope Diamond in season 1 of the anime). I theorized that within the insignia, Undertaker is represented by le Côte-de-Bretagne, the spinel carved into a red dragon.
And I think Undertaker is also represented by the red dragon in the Arthurian tale of King Vontigern and his construction woes - The First Legend of Merlin.
In this legend a monarch is attempting to build a tower above a pool of water, and when the foundation fails each night, he's advised that in order to successfully build the tower he must sacrifice a half-human child. However upon digging into the foundation he finds two dragons fighting, one representing the native Britons, the other representing the invading Saxons...
Tumblr media
LET'S TALK ABOUT DRAGONS BABY.
Usual disclaimer - I have not been able to find evidence of this legend being discussed before in relation to Black Butler. Please tell me if it has.
A Very Brief & Simplified History of Brittany
First off, I want to clarify a few things about Brittany, France, just in case anyone's confused. If you're not confused about the relationship between Britons and Bretons, feel free to skip this part!
Brittany (French: Bretagne) is a peninsula, historical country and cultural area in the north-west of modern France, covering the western part of what was known as Armorica in Roman Gaul.
In the 6th century, Celtic people (Britons) fleeing the Anglo-Saxon invasion immigrated from Great Britain to Brittany, which was then a part of Armorica (meaning land by the sea).
By the 11th century, Brittonic-speaking populations had split into distinct groups: the Welsh in Wales, the Cornish in Cornwall, the Bretons in Brittany, the Cumbrians of the Hen Ogledd ("Old North") in southern Scotland and northern England, and the remnants of the Pictish people in northern Scotland.
So by the 11 century, the Britonic people have separated into distinct cultural and geographical groups, and have developed their own distinct languages - but the Welsh, Cornish, and Breton people all descend from the same ethnic group, the people who had inhabited the British Isles since the iron age (800 BC) and spoke Brittonic. The Irish, Scottish, and the Manx (those who inhabit the Isle of Mann) descend from those who spoke Goidelic (Gaelic).
Brittany became an independent kingdom and then a duchy before being united with the Kingdom of France in 1532 as a province governed as a separate nation under the crown. Brittany is the traditional homeland of the Breton people and is one of the six Celtic nations, retaining a distinct cultural identity that reflects its history.
When Undertaker was alive in the 14th century, Brittany was ruled by the Dukes of Brittany. In 1532 they officially became a part of France, but they've always retained a unique identity and there is a strong separatist movement today to seek further independence from France. Brittany is sort of the 'Québec' to France's 'Canada'.
The most relevant information to know is that before the middle ages, the people who inhabited the regions now known as Wales and Brittany shared a heritage and a common tongue. The legend of King Arthur takes place in both England and Brittany (I believe the Isle of Avalon in the world of Black Butler will be off the coast of Brittany) and Arthur and his companions are important historical/mythological figures in both Welsh and Breton culture.
Historia Regum Britanniae
I am going to focus on analyzing the Omen of the Dragons as it appears in The History of the Kings of Britain or Historia regum Britanniae, a work of historical fiction that was written in the 12th century. It chronicles the lives of the Kings of Britons from the founding of the British nation up until the Anglo-Saxons assumed control of much of Britain around the 7th century. Historia regum Britanniae is one of, if not the central piece of The Matter of Britain, a body of medieval literature associated with Great Britain, Brittany, and their legendary kings and heroes, particularly King Arthur. The lais of Marie de France, one of which I detailed in my Rossignol theory post, are also part of The Matter of Britain.
The First Legend of Merlin as portrayed in Historia Regum Brittanie
The First Legend of Merlin revolves around the characters of the half-human boy Merlin/Ambrosius and the Monarch, King Vortigern.
It should be noted that this legend is sourced from an already existing story and that the figure of Merlin is imposed onto the real life 5th century historical figure Ambrosius Aurelianus. Ambrosius was a war leader of the Romano-British who won an important battle against the Anglo-Saxons.
King Vortigern himself was a native Briton, but he is portrayed to be a betrayer of his own people - or at the very least, an easily manipulated fool. He invited the Saxons to England - brilliant fucking idea, mate - and married a Saxon.
Vortigern was a 5th-century British ruler best known for inviting the Saxons to Britain to stop the incursions of the Picts and Scots and allowing them to take control of the land. He is regularly depicted as a villain or, at best, weak-willed and unable to control the Saxons once he arranged for, or encouraged, their arrival in Britain.
In the legend, King Vortigern has lost all his other fortified holds, so he asks his advisors/ 'magicians' for advice and they tell him to build another. Seems kind of obvious to me... Except all work that they do vanishes overnight.
At last he had recourse to magicians for their advice, and commanded them to tell him what course to take. They advised him to build a very strong tower for his own safety, since he had lost all his other fortified places. Accordingly he made a progress about the country, to find out a convenient situation, and came at last to Mount Erir, where he assembled workmen from several countries, and ordered them to build the tower. The builders, therefore, began to lay the foundation; but whatever they did one day the earth swallowed up the next, so as to leave no appearance of their work.
So Vortigern asks the magicians and they advise him to take the next logical course of action - child sacrifice, my liege, duh!
Vortigern being informed of this again consulted with his magicians concerning the cause of it, who told him that he must find out a youth that never had a father, and kill him, and then sprinkle the stones and cement with his blood; for by those means, they said, he would have a firm foundation. Hereupon messengers were despatched away over all the provinces, to inquire out such a man.
Now, at this my ears perked up like a fucking dog's. A youth that never had a father - that's a phrase that sounds like it could have been subjected to many a translation. After all, what does a child that never had a father mean? A child who was hatched from an egg? A kid whose dad went out to buy cigarettes and never came back? An orphan? A bastard? A child whose father was dead before they were even conceived?
Sure enough, when I scrounged around for another translation:
“The child must be borne of both woman and demon.”
And yet another interpretation merely states that the child cannot have a "mortal father".
His wizards claim that only by mixing in the blood of a child who has no mortal father will he make the foundations sound.
Ancient engineering is a trip, eh? I so love living in a time where we don't rely on mixing the blood of children into our concrete to prevent a sinking foundation.
Now, as to what Vortigern was attempting to build... Sometimes it's a "fortress", sometimes it's a "citadel", but most often the translation reads as a "tower". Another aspect of the legend remains consistent - the construction is always occurring either above or next to a body of water.
So a monarch is trying to build a structure (a tower over water), and is mysteriously unable to begin his project. His advisors tell him in order to proceed, he must sacrifice a child - one sired by a non-mortal upon a mortal woman.
Monarch/Warlord = King Vortigern = Queen Victoria
Structure over water = tower above pool = Tower Bridge over the Thames
Monarch's advisors = Vortigern's magicians = John Brown
Half-mortal child = Ambrose/Merlin = Vincent Phantomhive

Tower bridge under construction in 4x11
It's long been speculated that the events of December 14th, 1885 (namely, the murder of Vincent Phantomhive) are connected to the Tower Bridge, a project Prince Albert took a particular interest in. It began construction on April 22, 1886 (around four months after Vincent's murder) and is referenced several times in the manga...and in season 1 of the anime, the unfinished bridge is where the final confrontation between Sebastian and Ash/Angela takes place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sebastian & the angel Ash on the unfinished Tower Bridge in 1x24. Souls forming a seal above the bridge while the city of London burns in 1x24.
The bridge in the anime is built with/contains human sacrifices, and Sebastian states in all likelihood it was Ash/Angela (the advisor) who instructed Victoria (Vortigern) to build the bridge.
Ash states that "no demon must be allowed to enter through this gate" and that soon "all of eastern London will be safe from impurity". Eastern, specifically 👀 remember this for later...
Tumblr media
Horrible CGI human sacrifices in the bridge's foundation in 1x24
Back to the legend - the kings advisors go searching and find such a child who has no father, a boy whose mother claims to have laid with none other than a being who had long haunted her before lying with her in the shape of a beautiful young man. The king consults his advisor, who tells him that Merlin's father was likely an incubus.
For, as Apuleius informs us in his book concerning the Demon of Socrates, between the moon and the earth inhabit those spirits, which we will call incubuses. These are of the nature partly of men, and partly of angels, and whenever they please assume human shapes, and lie with women. Perhaps one of them appeared to this woman, and begot that young man of her."
Further versions of the legend add that Merlin/Ambrose is actually created as the antichrist. However Merlin is never portrayed as a malevolent force; having been baptized by his mother, he is freed from the Devil's influence, and yet still has the kick-ass powers. You get the best of both worlds, I guess.
The Omen of The Dragons
Tumblr media
Merlin speaks with the king and when he finds out his intent is to sacrifice him, he reasonably suggests to him and his followers that before you go around sacrificing children maybe you should take a look at what's underneath the tower! And for this, they name him a prophet. Turns out common sense is magical! So they dig up the ground, and they find a pond underneath the tower which has been the cause of the foundation sinking.
Then said he again to the king, "Command the pond to be drained, and at the bottom you will see two hollow stones, and in them two dragons asleep." The king made no scruple of believing him, since he had found true what he said of the pond, and therefore ordered it to be drained: which done, he found as Merlin had said; and now was possessed with the greatest admiration of him. Not were the rest that were present less amazed at his wisdom, thinking it to be no less than divine inspiration.
Lo and behold, when they look they find two dragons, just as Merlin had predicted. The translation here is a bit misleading - the true spirit of Vortigern's reaction seems to be more along the lines of fearful reverence - he and his men were intimidated by Merlin/Ambrose's abilities.
The dragons, one red and one white, wake and fight each other with fire over the lake as the king looks on.
As Vortigern, king of the Britons, was sitting upon the bank of the drained pond, the two dragons, one of which was white, the other red, came forth, and approaching one another, began a terrible fight, and cast forth fire with their breath. But the white dragon had the advantage, and made the other fly to the end of the lake. And he, for grief at his flight, renewed the assault upon his pursuer, and forced him to retire.
So the white dragon, who represents the Saxons, triumphs over the red dragon, who represents the Britons. They fight over a body of water, and cast fire with their breath. In the end, the white dragon defeats the red dragon.
I fear this does not bode well for Undertaker.
Undertaker's Fate
Within the insignia for the Order of the Golden Fleece of Louix XV, the Spinel carved into a red dragon is literally called "the coast of Brittany". Here, the red dragon represents the Brittonic people from whom the Bretons descended. Undertaker is the Celtic dragon.
As for the white dragon, who represents the Saxons - I believe this will be John Brown, servant of Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria is herself descended from the Anglo-Saxon regime of England, her mother was a Saxon, as was her husband/cousin Prince Albert. Worth noting that king Vortigern, though a native Briton, married a Saxon.
Undertaker has outright stated that he does not care for Queen Victoria - but there are hints in the events of his past that his feelings towards her are a bit more strong than dislike. I think it's more accurate to say he hates her guts, especially after Claudia's death.
Queen Victoria was born in May of 1819. The massacre at Reaper HQ (a far cry from Undertaker's previous behaviour working as a reaper) likely occurred in 1819 as well. This was also the year in which the name "Cedric" first appeared in the newly published novel 'Ivanhoe'. May 1819 was also when Keats wrote "An Ode to a Nightingale", which is the cornerstone of my "Rossignol" last name theory. 1837 is the year in which Queen Victoria ascended to the throne - this lines up with the date when Undertaker officially deserted the reapers, taking his death scythe with him. 1847 is also the year of death for Undertaker's first chronological locket, Molly G.
These dates aligning link Undertaker's rebellion against his superiors to Victoria's rise to power. However, a 1v1 of Grandma Vicky vs Grandpa Reaper probably wouldn't be all that compelling of a fight.
Enter Queen Victoria's servant (in real life, and in the anime) John Brown.
Tumblr media
John Brown in 4x10 - Sick Shades, Bro! Not conspicuous at all!
John Brown was a real person who served Queen Victoria in the aftermath of Prince Albert's death (and there is speculation that he and Vicky had an affair). But the real John Brown died on March 27, 1883 - and as I've discussed at length, Yana seems to be deliberate in the timing of significant events in relation to real world historical figures. That the 'real' John Brown in the manga died 2 years before Vincent Phantomhive was murdered is not a coincidence - rather, I think something else assumed John Brown's identity upon his death, and may have convinced Queen Victoria that Vincent Phantomhive needed to die...
There's been a lot of speculation about what John Brown is; another reaper, a demon, or an angel*. But he is most definitely not human. Not with those fuck-ass snow goggles.
*For the record, I think John Brown is indeed an angel.
Both characters of John Brown and Ash fill the same roles as the Queen's closest protector and advisor - the 'magicians' to Victoria's 'Vortigern'. The White Dragon Undertaker fights will not literally be Queen Victoria, but John Brown - and it seems Undertaker, GOAT that he is, will have finally met his match.
I think this will be Undertaker's final act in the manga, to reenact the fight between the red dragon and white dragon over the water by the half-built tower as detailed in the Historia regum Britanniae. Undertaker will fight the Saxon dragon, John Brown...
And Undertaker will lose.
In the finale of season 1 of the anime, Undertaker is distantly involved in the fight between Sebastian and Ash/Angela on the tower bridge (while the city of London burns down around them). He teams up with the other reapers (William and Grelle, and unnamed reapers #1-4) to disconnect the 'hearts of souls' feeding Ash/Angela's power. Undertaker's actions weaken Sebastian's final opponent and enable Sebastian's victory (and therefore, Ciel's). And once again - I think season 1 provides a loose interpretation of what will happen in the manga.
His role in the manga will likely be much more significant. I think he will still team up with the other reapers, but it won't be to snip black clouds because Will agreed to waive his fucking library fines. Undertaker's going to go out fighting...
I think Undertaker will meet his ultimate demise in fighting John Brown, but in doing so, he will enable Sebastian's victory and Ciel's revenge - and perhaps also stop whatever it was he learned back in 1819 that caused his initial rebellion.
Now excuse me while I go pre-grieve 😭
Lludd & Llefelys
This isn't particularly relevant - except this peaked my interest because it sounds vaguely familiar to what I understand about the Mother3 theory, so I'm throwing it in here. In the 13th century (after Historia regum Britanniae was published) the tale of Lludd and Llefelys was written as an origin for how the two dragons came to be buried underneath the pool at Dinas Emrys.
As to how the dragons became confined there, the story of Lludd and Llefelys in the Mabinogion gives details. According to the legend, when Lludd ruled Britain (c.100 BC), a hideous scream, whose origin could not be determined, was heard each May Eve. This scream so perplexed the Britons that it caused infertility, panic and mayhem throughout the realm. In need of help Lludd sought counsel on this and other matters from his brother Llefelys, a King of Gaul. Llefelys furnished the information that the scream was caused by battling dragons. The scream would be uttered by the dragon of the Britons when it was fighting another alien dragon and was being defeated. Lludd heeded the advice given to him by Llefelys and captured both dragons in a cauldron filled with mead when they had transformed themselves, as apparently dragons did, into pigs. The captured dragons were buried at the place later called Dinas Emrys, as it was regarded as the safest place to put them.
But that's not the only way this story might relate to Mother3...
Only Two Dragons - But I Thought The Dragon Must Have Three Heads???? Wait wrong show
Two dragons not enough for you? What about Sebastian, the guy who literally loves to light shit on fire, you cry out in dismay? Doesn't he get a dragon?
Fear not my friend, I've got you covered.
There is a much lesser known prophecy that is a sort of an addendum to Merlin's prophecy. It is contained in a series of texts called The Prophecy of the Eagle, and it foretells the Norman invasion of England...
Tumblr media
"As the White Dragon expelled the Red Dragon so a Dark Dragon will throw out the White Dragon. The Dark Dragon, fierce and terrible, will come flying and burn up the whole island with the corrupting fire of its mouth. From its loins will come forth a ram with a fine fleece that will strike with its horns in the east."
And that's where I will pick back up in Part 2, on The Prophecy of The Three Dragons! Because really, are two dragons ever sufficient?
Thank you for reading all this! If you're interested in checking out my other theories you can find a masterpost of them here. My ask box is open and I'm always happy to talk about this stuff, if you have any comments to share or questions to ask. (Note that I will answer publicly unless otherwise specified - also note that if you've asked a question and haven't received an answer yet, it's probably because I referenced this theory and wanted to post it first!)
Going to go cry into a tub of ice cream over my prediction of Undertaker's fate now, bye.

Heyy!
I've been thinking about the 'Sebastian making hyper-realistic confectioneries' again, so I wanted to share the scenario with you that I've just been typing out:
"Well, Young Master, tell me:" Sebastian leaned in with a smug smile upon his lips "is the item upon the table real, or an edible immitation?"
Ciel's eyes narrowed in concentration, regarding the object on the platter in front of him, before widening in realisation of the devil's wording; if there was one thing he had learned over their years together, it was that one should not listen to the meaning of the words that his butler spoke, but rather of the ones he didn't.
He lifted his head to meet with the man's proud gaze. "On the table, you say? Not on the plate?"
The demon's expression changed almost interceptibly, and Ciel knew that he was on the right track.
"It's not the item on the plate that's made of sugar. It's the plate itself." The Earl announced.
Sebastian snickered and politely lowered his head, eyes closed as he replied. "Well, my lord, very perceptible of you to notice my careful phrasing."
A self-satisfied smile stretched across Ciel's face, wiped away near immediately with the look in his butler's eyes when he once again opened them to meet him.
"However, I'm afraid you have still missed your mark."
Sebastian straightened, hovering the knife not above the confectioner's cookbook, nor the platter upon which it sat, but rather his own hand rested neatly upon the edge of the table, cutting deep into the glove to reveal it as nothing more than a clever construction of sponge and icing. Ciel stared dumbly in shock as the butler licked at the rich berry jam that smeared the blade in place of blood, the demon’s eyes half-lidded, watching him back intently as he did so.
"Do try harder next time, sir."
I love it, It's canon, I was there when it happened actually

I am asking you about your ivantill siren au!! I want to know everything about them <3 Also when you draw Till with top surgery scars it makes me so ridiculously happy, thank you~
oh man my ivantill siren au... hehe... also yes you're welcome. i love trans till it's very important to me i love projecting onto my blorbos ☝️
tbh siren au is what it sounds like... ivan is a little pirate & till is this siren that ivan is insanely interested in—both due to his feelings for him and in general finding the uniqueness and concept of sirens very interesting—and he's making it his god damn mission to know more about till (and just in general about the seas—he has a job. even if he doesn't want to do it or doesn't find a reason for it)
ivan's obsession (i guess) with sirens started when he was a tiny kid 🤏 itty bitty. he was a big fan of reading since it was a good past time and took his mind off of things, and stumbled upon a book about sea creatures, and more importantly sirens. also, it was kind of inevitable to learn about sea creatures due to unsha being a pirate as well, and unsha wanting ivan to basically be his heir or be apart of the business as well.
ever since then ivan hung out at the beach and shores just looking and watching the seas to see if he could see one, and, well, you'll never guess what happened (he did see one) (it was till. who would have guessed thattt). he would leave food for the siren since he thought it was... too malnourished and skinny, it kind of worried him even if he knew nothing about it.
naturally, years went by and ivan grew up and got into the pirate business, now he sails the seas (now not that reluctant since he wants to find sirens and other things). one thing led to another and the ship kinda just... sunk. ivan was unable to regain consciousness due to bonking his head (how convenient for the plot), and next thing you know he's waking up on shore soaking wet and with a newly near death experience of drowning.
till saved him. he saw ivan's body floating down in the sea when he was passing by, and after nearly a bit too much time wasted thinking, ended up saving him from drowning since he's suchhh a good person (urak got on his ass when he found out about this).
i have no idea how ivan ends up meeting till, but i'd like to think it's due to pollution and litter in the ocean—i feel like it's common to get harmed or injured by that stuff, and when ivan initially helps till (with many scratches as a reward) (till doesn't want to be touched by a human) (and very freaked out how a human knew how to take care of a wound on him) (ivan, too, learned about siren's biology and how to care for one. he is serious about this), they end up...??? not becoming friends, but ivan likes to think they became friends.
ivan somehow ends up finding till wherever he goes, it also freaks him out, but after a while he warms up to ivan and starts to enjoy his company. feelings develop... both of them are... so... repressed. ivan naturally because of his insane internalized homophobia to himself, and till because "oh, shit. this is a human i'm getting feelings for." also because of the internalized homophobia towards himself) (newly found bisexuality win!)... it's so messy and horrible. insane miscommunication, but they end up making up! i swear!!
they're friends :) maybe something more. but they have yet to talk about that and even confess. they're both so scared of their feelings and i love them very much for it.

if the zorlok cast were bg3 characters, what would they be and what kind of decisions would they make?
I'm assuming you mean who they would be in BG3 and not what kind of characters they would play. Also, hmm, don't want to give away spoilers here, so if you look below the cut you can see what I think they'd be up to (just beware of spoilers).
Tommy: Human, Level 9 Warlock (Fiend + Chain) / Level 3 Bard (Valour)
Dev: Wood Elf, Level 11 Rogue (Thief) / Level 1 Warlock (Archfey)
EJ: Human, Level 12 Sorcerer (Wild Magic)
Adam/Eve: High Elf, Level 7 Cleric (War) / Level 5 Paladin (Vengeance)
Lucía: Half-Elf (Wood), Level 7 Ranger (Gloomstalker) / Level 5 Rogue (Assassin)
Ciel: Lightfoot Halfling, Level 6 Barbarian (Wildheart) / Level 6 Druid (Moon)
Danny: Drow (Seldarine), Level 9 Paladin (Oathbreaker) / Level 3 Warlock (Fiend + Blade)
The Celestial: Aasimar Forest Gnome, Level 10 Wizard (Transmutation) / Level 2 Cleric (Knowledge)
Rose: Human, Level 12 Bard (Lore)
[Beware of Spoilers Below!]
Tommy
Not romancing anyone (obviously, he's 15)
Best friends with Wyll, Karlach, and Gale. Shadowheart is too cool for him, he's way too intimidated by her. Lets Astarion do whatever the hell he wants. Lae'zel scares the shit out of him. Adopted by Halsin the moment he meets him.
Just wants to hang out with the cool tiefling kids
Very easily persuaded by Raphael. Wyll and Karlach are constantly trying to talk some sense into him.
Aylin is the coolest person he's ever met
Sobbing his way through the horrors of Faerûn—I can see him in a little crumple at Withers feet, blowing his nose on Withers' decaying robes as bone daddy breaks the fourth wall and stares into the camera miserably
Eventually hardens into a truly terrifying force to be reckoned with (Karlach is very proud)
Tommy has two hands, one for Scratch and one for the owlbear
Dev
Romancing non-Ascended Astarion and fucking Halsin occasionally, Lae'zel and Shadowheart are xyr besties (xe forces them to get along), Gale amuses the hell out of xem, Wyll and Dev are constantly trying to one up each other's stories
It's either Ethel or Volo, whoever xe comes across first, but that eye's out of xyr head comically fast
Just wants to talk shit with Withers all day, hates that he never has much to say to xem
Wants to kick the shit out of Rolan but keeps saving his life somehow
Always covered in blood. Like it doesn't make sense half the time. How did that much blood splatter on xem? Why is it still on xem?
EJ
Absolutely head over heels in love with Gale, friends with and trying to fix everyone, Astarion terrifies them but they won't give up on him, they know there's a good person hiding beneath that veneer
Panicked and accidentally yeeted a gnome
Tried a tadpole once, wasn't for them
Holding Gale's hand and squinting through every dark space
Sleeps cuddling the owlbear and is always covered in feathers
Adam/Eve
In a relationship with Lae'zel, didn't get along at first but Laez grew to respect A/E and A/E was charmed by Lae'zel's... strengths. Shadowheart is their sister, hates it when the girls are fighting. Friends with Gale and Karlach. Doesn't trust Wyll fully. Never let Astarion join them. Immediately enamored with Halsin but Lae'zel is... stronger.
Normally out of spell slots cause they're terrified of long resting
Loves potions and alchemy, will stop every 30 meters to pick yet another sprig of balsam
Doesn't make deals with villainous beings. Doesn't trust any voices in their head. Doesn't respect any gods they come across.
Loviatar loves them
Lucía
In a relationship with Karlach, best friends with her and Wyll, had a crush on Shadowheart before meeting Karlach, never liked/trusted Astarion and staked him the minute he tried to put his fangs on her throat, Jaheira is her idol, probably left Lae'zel to die (cause she didn't want to upset Shadowheart)
Speaks to every single animal, picks every single lock, looks in every single barrel, fails almost every charisma check
Scratch is always by her side
Will go to Hell for her besties 😉🥲
Ciel
Dating Shadowheart, really close with Astarion and Minthara... But, seriously, they have a big redemption arc. They grow and change alongside Shadowheart, both goth edgelords are completely changed by the end
Starts the game eating every tadpole (like the Guardian barely has to suggest the idea, it's already in their mouth) but goes one step too far and suddenly becomes terrified of what it means to be monstrous(/illithid)
Diplomacy? Ha. Sorry, that's not for them. They only like talking to animals and corpses.
Loves permanently seeing invisibility...
A loot goblin, their high strength score is great for fighting and jumping and shit, but mostly for the increased carrying capacity
Mol is their idol
Danny
I'm honestly not sure who they'd be in a relationship with, I think they'd be close with everyone but I don't think they'd be in a headspace for anything more than friendship over the course of the game, maybe after the fact they'd grow closer with Shadowheart but that would just be my headcanon, they wouldn't romance anyone (no matter how much Withers mocks them for it)
They are doing everything they think is right in the moment, though they'd regret rash actions later
They empathize greatly with the undead and hate people like Balthazar who twist them to their will
No one threatens a child in their presence. Well, no one who's still alive.
They cannot pretend to be under the Absolute's thumb, they are going in swinging every time, no chance for diplomacy or manipulation
They pick up a teddy bear early on and it never leaves their inventory
The Celestial
In a physical relationship with Halsin, slept with Astarion but now they're just very good friends, sees Karlach, Wyll, and Shadowheart as eir children, loves and is very intrigued by Lae'zel, doesn't like Gale at all (cannot and will not trust a wizard like him)
Always has the Disguise Self spell going, and it's always a different disguise
Eir traveler's chest is filled with the weirdest collection of random shit you've ever seen: noble portraits, rotten eggs, gold chalices, a couple goblin corpses, poutine, 30 mindflayer tadpoles, etc.
Chats with every corpse, even the ones ey killed
Lorroakan can (and does) eat shit
Despises everything about Orin, zero redeemable qualities—even her shapeshifting, eugh, it's so... crude, no grace or skill
The moment the Celestial learns Otto's Irresistible Dance is the last moment Faerûn knows peace
Rose
In a passionate romance with Wyll but he's very good friends with everyone (they are all his children)
Does everything within his power to avoid violence. Will charm, sing, and sneak his way across Faerûn
Adopts every child and animal he comes across
The hardest thing he has to do is tell people to stay in camp. Why can't everyone always be in his party? They all make him feel so bad...
Always taking long rests (doesn't want people being tired or hurt) and spends an hour cooking a delightful meal with Gale every night

Hi, just want to say, thanks for your blog. Before I found your blog, I thought I was the weird one for loving "problematic ship". But now, I can be proud of myself (as shipper of Goyuu, Bakudeku, Sebaciel, Ereri, Mobrei, etc)
Can't belive some great Sebaciel blog got reported and now they're gone. Bet if either Sebastian or Ciel were female then it's 'okay' and seen as less problematic.
First things first, excellent taste keep it up dear and don't let wet napkin antis dictate what you should and shouldn't read, LIVE!!!
Seconds, omfg I didn't even hear of that since I'm not on Tumblr much, I'd love to ask for the tea but I'm trying avoid drama rrn lolol. There really should be a special place in hell for antis who take pleasure in bullying ppl just minding their business off the internet.
In regards to the gender bending thing, I'd like to agree that while yes, het relationships do get more of a pass jn regards to large age gaps situations, BUT Sebastian and Ciel's case is just one of the very extreme age gaps antis will still harp on. Ciel is 14 looking a bit younger and Sebastian is old enough to mention historical figures that are centuries dead, its pretty hard to overlook and if them together isn't your thing (which is valid, no one is forcing you just step away from the screen or swipe) it will literally be the thing glaring you in the face when you come across someone shipping them.
It's not like Goyuu which some will excuse bc "oh fem teacher Gojo is hot Yuuji's so lucky, it should have been me" or "fem Yuuji is is just a girl and it's hot to crush on her sensei."
I don't like m/f relationships of any kind so none of these will appeal to me thank fucking god but any way I look at it SebastCiel in any form will always take heat because there's no way you can play down a predatory demon exploiting an emotional child that isn't entirely vulnerable bit is to some degree.
Thing is, at the end of the day it's all fiction, antis need to live a little, touch grass and stop being unhinged freaks threatening sa and murder (Literally why do they think they're the "good guys"??? I'm weak 😭)
Parting words: Ciel is THE shota and if you debate me we will do battle!!

happy wincest wednesday! my question for this week's round table (lol) is: what's your ideal for sam and dean's "apple pie" life? would they settle down and retire with each other, or would they keep hunting? who does the cooking, who does the cleaning (do they even know how to clean?), do they hide the fact that they're brothers or are they the freaky incest bros down the street? do they have kids (mpreg or adoption)? pets? i'm curious about any and all ideas you have :) (@incesthemes)
Ciel you are quickly becoming my weekly reminder that it is Wednesday lol
Ok so I will be honest, I don't actually tend to consider the apple pie life for these two because I tend to like when they're just fucking going through it and everything is terrible including each other, but, I do think it is possible that they could've ended up somewhere in a form of an "apple pie life", pretty much only if they were made to.
So like some kind of injury that permanently disabled one or the other of them in some way that makes them unable to truly continue hunting.
I think that while Sam and Dean often grow tired of the life they live and hunting, I don't think either of them truly want to leave the life, or more so, don't know how to leave the life. So I don't see them ever truly settling down somewhere into something like a suburbs and becoming just another person, unless again they were forced to in one way or another.
So for me their apple pie life becomes something similar to the life Bobby led. I think they never really fully leave the bunker, or if they do they don't really live in something like a suburbs they live secluded in a reasonable way. They probably continue to be involved in hunting in ways they can, such as possibly starting up a phone system like Bobby had, or Sam becoming something like a straight researcher.
I don't think they ever hide the fact they're brothers. I know a lot of people like romantic Wincest, but I tend to find that I don't think Sam or Dean would really even know how to do that even if they wanted to, and I don't think they want to. I think all the romantic/sexual connotations between these two has to do with lines being crossed and intertwined with their already familial bond, and so I don't think they'd even think to change that base bond.
I don't think they're more overt about that than anything they do in the show though. I think a lot their behavior is excused away by a general public they don't really get to know anyways, hanging on each other's shoulders, speaking in hushed tones with faces turned in towards each other, even things like slapping each other's asses or whatever, as just familial in nature because a lot of those individual moments aren't enough to jump immediately to "oh yeah no those two are clearly fucking".
As for kids or pets.....god help the kid raised by those two honestly. I think one thing people confuse with Dean a lot is him being good with kids, does not translate to good at raising kids. And I don't think Sam really tends to show much interest in something like raising kids. Even when it came to Jess it's brought up that he wanted to marry her someday, and people tend to assume that means the white picket fence and a family, but it's not really explicitly stated.
So like, I don't think either of them would probably gravitate towards raising a kid with each other. At best they're some kind of uncle or more of a mentor who doesn't have to actually raise a full human.
I think especially if they step back and take on more of a research/background role they do probably get used to mentoring younger generations of hunters, but I don't think that ever goes any farther than that. And again, god help the kid that would have to be raised by these two otherwise, especially because I don't think they would ever truly unmesh from each other and I think both would get resentful of a kid "threatening" that in some way.
So yeah, basic tldr version:
- I think that Sam and Dean would only truly retire if forced to due to some disabling injury
- I think that even retired they would never truly be able to leave the life behind and that living in something like a suburbs would actually give them extreme amounts of anxiety because these two don't know how to exist in "peace"
- I don't think they'd pretend to be anything other than brother's but I don't think they'd be obviously or feel the need to be obviously something beyond brothers. I think the fact that they are never truly able to mesh with the general public would help this too as you'd really only see snapshots of their life and they'd be largely excusable snapshots of "close brothers"
- I do not think they would ever want or be good at raising kids. I think they'd continue to take on mentor roles similar to the kinds they do on the show at times, but those roles could never truly conflict with their enmeshment with each other, or one or both of them would take it as a threat

cielartemy - 2. Who wakes up early/Who sleeps in late?14. Do they enjoy PDA, or are they more private with affection?21. Do they enjoy domestic life?33. How do they flirt? Who’s the worse flirt?
THANK YOU LUCE >:D
2. Who wakes up early/Who sleeps in late?
ciel is a CHRONIC early riser. it's something not even being put in the palace could take out of her. she's up when the sun is up. artemy thinks it's very funny until she wants him up too.
artemy is not getting up until 10 am. at the earliest. he usually ends up lovingly bullying ciel into getting back into bed so they can snuggle.
14. Do they enjoy PDA, or are they more private with affection?
a little bit of both? ciel is a little weird about public affection (she's the queen, y'all, she has to be serious) but she really does like it, and artemy is a bigg cuddlebug. he's the golden retriever to her terrified cheetah energy.
artemy likes to come up behind ciel and hug her. she enjoys this very much and he usually gets a kiss for his troubles.
21. Do they enjoy domestic life?
ciel and artemy's definition of domestic is. a little strange bc for the past 17 years theyve been dualrole running the resistance and parenting their kids. but yeah. both of them are happy they can focus more on family now that the zogratis siblings are gone :3
33. How do they flirt? Who’s the worse flirt?
artemy has very eloquent pickup lines but like homeboy was down first and ciel fell harder. artemy wiped her face when she was crying and said "you know, you have very pretty eyes." and ciel was hearing wedding bells. it was absolutely foul luce. artemy gave this woman a bit of his time and ciel went "i need him. carnally." and she's right. artemy is peak.
ciel is the worst flirt bc she TRIPS over herself. she's like "hey artemy h. have you. h. oh my god" and artemy gives her a kiss anyways so who really wins (ciel). she held hands with him for the first time after reuniting in the palace and was DIABOLICALLY down bad.
