max was 17yo and eighteen months ago before australia 2015 he was racing in karts like 😐😐😐it’s clearly a mixture of resentment and unfamiliarity that older drivers treated max with but like literally why were all these men in their 20s and 30s bullying a literal child like?!!?!? the only people that weren’t mean about max were a. current rb drivers who knew to leave the shit talking about rb drivers to marko and b. fernando alonso who is a crafty fox and isn’t lovey dovey 100% of the time. and people wonder why max doesn’t have any heroes and doesn’t care too much about older legends uh thank you for your insight jenson maybe it’s bc when he showed even a shred of talent you literally isolated him and tore him down all the time and didn’t let him join your special little club bc you thought he was too young 😀 max fr is a better person than me because he went through all of that and then saw seb and lewis adopting their little prodigies (but most importantly ones that they can always beat lmao) and is still kind to people and tries to make friends like!! Who is your favorite driver?: i go back and forth between lando and oscar! i think lando has my heart the most though, honestly, goblin child that he is.

Do you have other favorite drivers?: i love lewis, i love charles, i still have a soft spot for max and daniel although definitely not to the extent i used to... but honestly i'm kind of fond of most of the grid and its peripheral characters (including the previous generation of ex-drivers like nico (i used to be OBSESSED with nico when he was driving for merc!), jenson et al) and the up-and-comers like liam, ollie, kimi. i just like drivers!

Who is your least favorite driver?: there's nobody i really hate, but i'm less keen on perez and hulkenberg. fernando annoyed me for a while when he was just waltzing into random other series, nabbing the best car and winning everything and then fucking off again when he was trying to catch the triple crown, but i find him pretty funny these days.

Do you pull for drivers or do you like teams as well?: i think @goingxmissing made a very good point that liking a driver generally means you end up liking the people around them too, but i'm generally a driver not a team person. i'm papayapilled currently because my two favourite drivers are with them, but i wouldn't particularly follow mclaren regardless of who drives for them (i'm also less than impresed with some of the choices they've made recently, but let's not get into that.)

If you like teams, what team do you pull for?: mclaren obviously, and i am very fond of mercedes although that's a deeply frustrating endeavour at the moment. but yeah, none of the teams are particularly meaningful to me.

How long have you been into F1?: well, i guess technically we're talking about 25 years lmao. i started watching when i was a kid because my mum loved mika hakkinen, so i have fond childhood memories of watching the hakkinen v schumacher years and being fascinated by it. but in terms of watching it by my own volition, this is the 11th straight year i've been watching. mental.

What got you into F1?: see above for the original inspiration! but i came back to it in 2013 because i started working as a subtitler for live tv and one of the channels we covered happened to be sky F1 (so yeah i basically got paid to watch F1. it was great.) a few months of covering the 2013 season - the fabled "multi-21" season of seb and mark nearly killing each other - and i was hooked.

Do you enjoy Fanfic/RPF?: oh yes lmao.

How do you view new fans?: having survived the wilderness years where nobody gave a fuck about F1 and many of the fans were middle aged "well actually..." men, it fills me with joy to see so many younger and more diverse fans coming to the sport. sometimes i see takes that make it pretty clear there's a lack of understanding of the history or previous context of the sport, but so what? we all started somewhere.

If you could take over as team principal for any team, who would it be and why?: oh my god, i don't think i'd want to, it looks stressful as fuck lmao. i'd quite like to be a strategist though, if only i had any capacity for it. maybe for merc. i'd like to work under toto (ahem).

Are your friends and family into F1 as well?: yes! my mum, obviously. a lot of my non-F1 friends (i.e. friends i didn't meet through motorsports fandom) are also into it to varying degrees, and i'm lucky enough to have forced quite a big group of people on here into being my actual real life friends now too. i'm very lucky.

Are you open to talking to other fans/making friends?: yes!! i am not always brilliant at responding to DMs in a timely fashion (i get very easily overwhelmed when i have lots of unread messages lmao) but i love the anons in my inbox and it still makes me so happy when people send me messages saying something (...usually piss related lmao) reminded them of me 🥹

I thank God every day that we didn't have social media as we know it now during the Schumi era or Seb's red bull era because I'm sorry but some of y'all wouldn't have survived. They would've decimated you, especially those of you who can't stand the likes of Fernando and Max. Nando is well Nando (he's a war criminal but he's my war criminal and if anything the war crimes just add to the appeal) but for the most part Max is an angel in comparison to his fellow red bull golden boy and to his uncle Michael and most definitely in comparison to Nando lmao.

Like multi 21, legit the entirety of red bull Seb and Ferrari Michael, the 1994 Australian Grand Prix, Michael v Jacques in 1997!!!, legit the entire Ferrari garage having to stop Michael from killing David Coulthard at Spa in '98, and so much more on top of them both absolutely dominating the sport at the same time. Michael is the only driver to date who has ever achieved a 100% podium finish for an entire season, Seb has the most consecutive wins in a season and his 2013 season is regarded as the most perfect F1 season a driver has ever had.

Like those of you started supporting Seb during his Ferrari days, I'm sorry but you will never truly understand what it was like. Seb, Red bull were despised like we got booed at every opportunity. We said fuck you we're going to win and we're going to enjoy every single boo because we know you only boo us because you can't beat us, and then we did, just like Michael said and did before us. I, like many, was raised in the Schumi to Seb pipeline, their years of dominance are my golden years of F1 and they always will be. They will always be my goats.

I'm very against gatekeeping and it truly doesn't matter how or why you got into this sport but there's no denying that those of us who supported Schumi and red bull Seb (+ Nando at literally any point lmao) hit different. Those of you who came after merely adopted F1 chaos; we were born in it, moulded by it.

1. who or what got you into F1?

first it was my dad who used to watch it when i was around 7-9, but then he stopped and i did too, i only followed a few ppl on social media to kinda keep up, and then my cousin started watching DTS two years ago and she talked about it to me and it made me wanna watch f1 again and my obsession came back even stronger.

2. who was the very first F1 driver you supported? do you support them now? have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?

as a kid i supported sebastian and jenson, and tbh they are still amongst my top favourites. when i started watching f1 again two years ago, i first supported george and charles. charles is still one of my all time favourites, and i still support george just i guess not as much as back then.

3. who’s your current favourite F1 driver?

i can't choose just one, really. right now it's charles, oscar and danny, i think. why does it actually feel a bit wrong to only say three lol

multiple. i love max & daniel, charles & carlos (even their name combined is chaos, what can it be if not fun?), also carlos & lando. i think these pairings work(ed) really well in many aspects. oh and kimi & seb!

well, my dad's been a jenson fan back in the day, now he's supporting lewis and fernando. my cousin is a big ferrari and charles fan!

singapore 23, and also monza 19, monza 20, monza 21. you just gotta love those. and australia 23 bc it was pure chaos lmao

tbh i don't think i have just one fave. i have several that i like a bit more than others, like monaco, monza, baku, but i guess none exceptionally.

nope, never. too broke for that sadly, coming from a broke ass country... i will hopefully attend the hungarian gp though as a volunteer this year!

again, i don't have a favourite, but there are many i like. for example, i liked the red bull fan designed livery in miami 23, and the red and white ferrari livery in las vegas 23.

pierre and george (and kubica lol gotta love the guy). i literally cried my eyes out when george won in 2022.

12. do you have any favourite quotes from the F1 world? this can either be inspirational or hilarious.

i have so many, serious and funny ones too (mainly funny though). but, if i have to choose, for funny i have to go with "nothing just an inchident on the race" or "what am i now? heavily depressed", and for serious, i will go with my top 3, which are "being second is to be the first of the ones who lose" & "to achieve anything, you must be prepared to dabble on the boundary of disaster" & "you must always strive to be the best, but you must never believe that you are."

but i also gotta mention "one week they love me, one week they hate me, both weeks i get paid" and "i've got balls but none of them are crystal" bc seb is just too funny and i love the guy too much.

So the dynamics would be: STR!Seb x Aston!Fernando and Post-Retirement!Seb x Ferarri!Fernando(~2011-2012)

The former would be a Seb who is very hungry for Fernando's attention, but now he's with a Fernando is actually now very willing to give him that attention. Fernando is constantly repeating in his head: "Don't fuck the twink don't fuck the twink don't fuck the twink", but every time they end up on the podium together, Seb always ends up being all over him and "accidentally" groping him. So Seb is still a brat but is with a Fernando who's not gonna just be cold to him but will indulge him instead 🤭

The latter is more angsty AAAHHH!! Cause its a Fernando who is in Ferrari hell and Seb who is post-catharsis. And to quote C, Fernando is like "why are you so happy??? Did you win!?" and Seb responds: "no :)" But also I am not immune to Seb being coy and playing with Fernando. He now understands why Fernando was the way he was back then because he's now gone through the same thing with Ferrari, but also wants him to stop being so gloomy and angsty about it.

Don't ask about how these AUs work, just know that they have knowledge of what their original counterparts were like so it's weird for the younger versions to get to see what ends up happening to the other, and then allows the olders to gain a new perspective instead of their biased memories(i.e.: "you're not who I was villainizing you as in my head" = both of them realize that they were building the other up as such an antagonist in their head but then, oh, he's just like me fr)(but for younger Seb, Fernando realizes Seb just wanted to be friends :( and so now he's trying to be more of a mentor.)

(1/2) hi i’m new i literally made a tumblr just to say this but… do i hear Spirited Aaway (best movie of all time) au? (even if you don't know what that is i need to speak my truth so) plot wise mick is travelling with his dad to visit somewhere idk and they end up in the spirit realm and michael gets cursed to enter enchanted sleep so mick goes to the bathhouse that’s in the distance where he meets this scruffy older guy with eyes like running water who tells him to “go, run, leave before dark” but we all know that doesn't happen 🙄 and instead gets stuck in the spirit realm. the unkept hot guy mick keeps on thinking feels familiar tells him to survive and get his dad back he must go to upper management and beg for a job so he does and SURPRISE the bathhouse is a metaphor for ferrari and they take away mick’s last name like in the movie and make him forget about his past life. it turns out that weirdo blue-eyed man is the right hand to the bathhouse owner (who? WILL come up later) and he’s super powerful and can turn into a dragon and his name is ✨seb✨ but mick is like… don’t i know you from my repressed childhood..? no? anyway i don’t think that’s your name but i will not examine that. after that estiebestie the nice demon is tasked to train him in how to do bathhouse stuff (he’s the cool mentor woman in the film i don’t remember her name) and he’s the only one who’s nice to mick. mick suffers for a bit, because he’s a nepo baby who’s never done manual labor at heart. then alex the mud spirit comes through (rbr to williams resurrection metaphor) and so does no-face (fernando alonso because that image is really funny to me, not for thematic reasons). seb (haku) hates him. it’s great.

(2/2) anyway whatever whatever climax of the story seb goes to steal the “golden seal” (wdc) and gets super poisoned (again, metaphor) so mick goes down to the boiler room again to meet with seb’s oldest and only friend, a spirit who used to be super powerful but was cast aside to the basement after becoming disillusioned by the bathhouse (guess who? it’s kimi lol. he could pull off the boiler guy). grumpy boiler guy tells him to travel to the empire across the sea and gives him the train tickets. also charles is there because charles is the giant baby (ferrari chosen one iykyk) but he’s better and cooler than the baby in the film. they travel all the way to the cottage of TOTO WOLFF who is the nice witch and he tells them about his old friend/rival (lover? 😳) MAURIZIO ARRIVABENE and his cursed ferrari bathhouse who has seb in a chokehold. anyway mick gets emotionally adopted and seb is cured and shows up and the door and turns into a dragon to fly them back (it’s glorious). (a.n: george is the hopping lamppost this is so important to me). on the way mick has a revelation. am i… into men? lmao jokes. his realization is that seb was the river spirit his dad used to take him too when he was a kid in the german countryside and the spirit’s name is ✨sebastian vettel✨. it’s moving and beautiful and whatever. they get back and return charles the mouse to ferrari so they can release sebby’s contract (aston martin era), mick goes back to real life and travells back to his hometown to see the river and SURPRISE there’s a scruffy older guy with eyes like running water (😉) waiting on the shore. the end. thanks for listening <3

THEE pierresteban master. this fic strikes some miserable chord in me about breaking up. this fic makes me feel sad without fail. it's just the perfect encapsulation of a certain head's pace. i also think fernando in it is hilarious. (honorary mention to I'll be the sky you be the bird, max/daniel, 24.7k for the incredible structure and the line "I'll think that gets me what I want.")

is this a cheater pick because it was written for me? no!!! this fic is AMAZING and marthe is so fun and clever and helped send me down the esteban spiral. the writing is super funny and it plays with classic romcom tropes in a very fun way. first time I've ever had to split a comment in TWO. i especially love the ending!!

i could genuinely put a dozen more fics on this list, but these are some of my favorites that I've read more than once and really enjoyed reading and i remember what happened (and enough to think of right now) and i had some emotional reaction. #critera. definitely missing some stellar fics I really enjoyed!! also genuinely surprised these are all AUs lol but I suppose it is what it is.

formative fic for me. probably reread it once a year. just a genius job of weaving together a broad swathe of real texts and work with the story of steve that's really stuck with me. it has early 20th c socialism and interesting takes on religiosity and of course. captain america. so I really like this one.

Asynchronous circuit by jessepinwheel, star wars, obi-wan kenobi centric, 117.5k

This is a very clever fic. Obi-wan is a noir-style detective and i love how the author weaves together the star wars world and the tropes of detective noir writing. it's a very interesting take on an alternate version of obi-wan who doesn't stay with the order, and I love all of the side characters. again, good writing and an interesting concept does a lot for me

okay i actually have a horrible memory for things i read and don't really bookmark much (these are both from my bookmarks) but everything there i liked enough to do so and have read at least twice. tbh I've read a lot of fic but most of it doesn't really stand out, especially once i stop being interested in the source material. stop by in a month to get my 2022 book report lmao!

question anon here: who do you think are the most talented drivers in f1 and f2?

Okay, so I started writing a whole ass essay about this and started to overthink what my criteria for talent are and had a whole identity crisis about the operationalisation of talent … and then I got a headache halfway through and lost the fun, so now we are making @alx-albon happy by giving you sth short instead of a whole ass essay (you’re welcome)

I actually have to admit I don’t have a definite answer for you cause sure Sir Lewis is the obvious choice considering his results and all but for me, at least, talent means an inherent ability and I feel like we’re doing a disservice to Sir Lewis by reducing him to being talented when he’s also experienced and consistent … but also part of talent to me is adaptability to different cars and we haven’t seen Sir Lewis do that since 2013 or maybe even 2009 / 2010? Like his 2007 and 2013 cars aside he’s had developmental input in all cars he’s driven (mostly for several years) but also 2009 / 10 with Kers and the blown diffusers which went against his driving style a lil we've never truly seen him struggle with a car but also I don’t think he’s ever truly had to adapt? (same btw I think is true for Max who’s ONLY ever driven Newey cars in F1)

In comparison I think Seb is actually a far more adaptable driver than people like to admit because he’s had to adapt his driving style around the Newey cars and yes, he had developmental input but mostly it was Newey’s show … and then had to unlearn all that when he went to Ferrari and was put in a car designed around Kimi’s driving style and now he’s had to adapt to the Aston Martin which ALSO follows a different philosophy and let’s not forget about how he’s spent running circles around everyone at the race of champions in a completely different type of car? But does that make Seb the most talented driver? No.

So for me, at least looking at F1, who I’d pick as most talented comes down to the factors of: speed (George, maybe Max), tyre management (Lance), race craft (Sir Lewis, even though I think Fernando is a better defensive driver but also Seb who is good as well but cleaner than Fernando but less clean than Sir Lewis if that makes sense?), consistency (Sir Lewis or Esteban, Nicky or Pierre), wet weather mastery (Seb or Sir Lewis) and adaptability (car style: Carlos, simply based on this season; different race tracks: Sir Lewis? but Idk I think car matters here a lot as well?).

So it probably does end up being Sir Lewis for me simply because I’d rate him as top 5, probably top 3 in all my categories except maybe adaptability cause I honestly think we are lacking data for Sir Lewis especially but most of the grid in general!

As for F2, I know I know, it should be easy to answer that just cause - supposedly - they all have the same car but we all know that’s actually bullshit and money matters just as much as it does in F1, maybe even more if we look at Jüri which is why I will not go with Oscar, even though I rate him very high but he’s basically always been at Prema, and I won’t go with Jüri, even though my heart is screaming at me to do so cause he’s had such an issue riddled season we cannot compare him to anyone, and say Theo Pourchaire but also wanna mention Richard Verschoor, Idk why but my brain brought him up?

So yeah, that’s my NOT-essay answer! Aren’t you glad I kept it short, lmao?
