I ran into my favorite professor of all time once outside of class at a Shakespeare exhibit at a local museum. We stopped to chat for a moment, when he overheard two elderly ladies behind us ask a question about something on display. Not directing the question to anyone, just wondering amongst themselves.

And my professor, precious human being that he was, could not physically restrain himself. He knew the answer. He had to teach. He turned around to them, apologized for interrupting but he knew the answer to their question and immediately launched into a lecture. It was a good lecture, too! He was an excellent lecturer and could just spring into it off the cuff. And those ladies just stood there, entranced, and listened to him go on and on about the First Folio.

It was one of the most endearing things I’ve ever seen. It never felt condescending or like mansplaining. He just wanted to see the world learn and was delighted to share what he knew with people.

summary: kind of inspired by from the start by laufey, you loved him from the start

warnings: the reader is described as beautiful and pretty, hyoga is kind of sweet

If someone were to ask you what made you fall in love with Hyoga, you’d be in a bind, because you truly had no reason. You had no idea what started this little crush, but you were certain you loved him, there was no mistake about it. From the way you would notice your eyes following him, all the way to the way your heart would flutter when he talked to you. There was no other explanation of these emotions you harboured.

Hyoga was skeptical at times. He enjoyed talking to you far more than you would ever imagine, but sometimes he would have a sense that you might have some feelings for him. However, every time he had thought of this, it would immediately fade as he came to his senses, because there was absolutely no way you would fall for him. There was nothing he had ever done that could possibly come across as good, let alone something that would make someone fall for him. And definitely not you.

There were so many people who would kill to get one date with you, but none of them had had the confidence to ask. You were the most beautiful person most people had laid their eyes on, and he wasn’t an exception. This wasn’t only about your looks either, it was actually mainly about who you were. You would always be down to help and you always had a smile on, no matter the day. 

Your existence was more of an annoyance to Hyoga when you were just revived. He first assumed that Senkuu had just decided to revive a pretty person to raise the moral of the team, after realizing you had no particular strengths. However, it wasn’t long until he realized it wasn’t your looks that were making everyone’s day, it was rather your energy that was. For the first time in his life, he realized the effect one’s kindness can have on others. Soon after, the two of you had your first conversation, and for the first time in a very long time, you brought a smile to his face.

Now, you had no idea how to make Hyoga fall for you. You had pondered on this for months now, thinking about this every time you talked to him. Quite frankly, you were tired. You wanted him to like you so badly and today you were going to go for it. You had to start somewhere and whatever you were doing obviously wasn’t working.

The next time you talked to Hyoga was rather soon. He was just finishing his training for the day and you had just helped bring back the minerals that Chrome had found today. You were always nervous when you talked to him, but today must have been so much worse than usual, because you blurted out the words you had carefully held in for months.

“Hyoga, I like you,” you said and he was visibly shaken, but to his surprise you looked just as horrified. 

“...What?” he asked, genuinely surprised.

“That came out wrong,” you said and he undeniably felt his heart drop a little. Of course it did.

“If you’re going to pull that prank, at least do it to someone believable,” Hyoga said.

“What?” you said and immediately you realized what he meant. “No, I do like you. I’m serious, I just didn’t mean to blurt it out like that.”

“There’s no way,” Hyoga said, but he was hoping you would deny him and explain. “What have I ever done to make you like me?”

“Well, I’m sure that I do. I can’t quite point out when I first fell in love, but I can list things I like about you,” you said, absolutely confident. “I like the way you don’t say things you don’t mean. I like the way you care for those who matter. Oh, I love the way you’re always working hard. I know you’ve never skipped a day of training, even when you were burning up with that fever and you really should’ve...” You were ready to go on but the way Hyoga’s eyes widened surprised you. Immediately, you remembered when you first fell in love with Hyoga.

It was like you had thawed his frozen heart. He was so lost on how to react, no one had ever said that to him before. It was then that he remembered the time he probably fell for you. It was the first time the two of you had talked and your first comment was that you liked his kudayari spear. He had questioned if you were familiar with it and you told him you were not, a little embarrassed. You had admitted that you hardly knew anything about combats and weapons, but you assumed that the wear and tear in his spear showed how hard he worked. That couldn’t help but make him smile.

You were always like that. 

“Hyoga, I remember what made me fall in love,” you said, almost proud. “The first time we talked, you smiled. I thought a cupid shot me in the heart.”

Your confident demeanor was slowly fading away as you waited for his response. He could tell you were nervous and that made his heart flutter. You were serious. 

It wasn’t on purpose, it wasn’t because you had just said that. He just couldn’t help but smile. 

“Then, I fell in love first.”

"No way," you said, unable to process that he returned your feelings, let alone fell first.

"You better not go around doing that to other people," he said, not elaborating on the previous statement.

"Oh, don't be silly," you said and he opened his mouth to tell you he was serious, but you went on. "I've only ever been looking at you, how would I know anything about anyone else?"

robin stares at you like that means anything, literally anything, the both of you letting the cold seep through you on this frozen city street. lights dapple the slowly thawing sidewalks. snow bunches up around stationary cars like mounds of forgotten icing. the light dapples her face too, peeking out from behind her woolen behemoth of a scarf-- multicolored reflections from tacky christmas bulbs still hanging all around make her sparkly eyeshadow even sparklier, like a pre-show for the new year's fireworks.

she looks pretty. prettier than you remember her from freshman orientation, and you remembered her.

you scoff. "you can't kill yourself at ten pm on new year's eve, it's like-- it's like you didn't even try."

"i tried!" robin protests, hands gesturing wildly towards the bar you've just followed her out of. "i tried, and i got stood up, so i failed, okay?"

"and you wanna go into the new year in a new city with that bullshit attitude?" your arm goes up and you're hailing a cab. she's just kind of bobbing her mouth at you, but you know that you both need to find another bar-- and fast. "fine. but the way i see it, you got two more hours of spectacular striking out left in you, buckley. better make 'em count."

the yellow cab screeches to the curb and you hold the door open for her.

"wait a second, are you offering to wingman for me?"

you shrug. "why not? i got dumped tonight, remember? i need somewhere to channel all this affection or it'll give me an ulcer. i really don't want an ulcer!"

she stares at you a sec, brow pinched like why would you do this for me? you don't even know me!

"and look!" you extend a hand, "if we totally fail, you can at least kiss me at midnight before you go home and stick your head in the oven. deal?"

robin swallows, takes your gloved hand in hers. "my dorm only has a toaster oven."

RTD's defence of doctor who being put on Iplayer and Disney+ at 12am GMT is stupid.

And not stupid in a "why is he doing that" way, stupid in a "he's talking shite" way.

Don't get me wrong, I get he has to defend it to keep that disney money or whatever, but his responses to how this change affects fans of the show are bad, and to feign that it suits the viewers better is just a mockery.

He's, for some reason, saying kids should stay up till 2am to watch it and comparing it to midnight H*rry P*tter book releases, like an episode coming out ever week for a season and a physical book coming out once every 2 years or so is the same situation with the same spoiler risk I guess???

RTD has also said that it was easy for him, the 60 year old man, to avoid spoilers for Game Of Thrones while that was coming out in the morning so why can't we all just do the same. And also said if you're in any Doctor Who fan spaces online you'll get spoiled before the episodes come out anyway! Because people leaking the show, and Americans being able to watch and talk about the show before you because of how the release time suits them better is the exact same situation I guess!

Also him talking out his arse with "well the show being on at 6.30 made it so people working Saturday night shifts couldn't watch it so there's no release time that'll suit everyone" is really the cherry on top of him using shite excuses.

TLDR: While I understand why he has to defend this decision, his responses to the valid annoyances to the main audience of the show that live in a GMT time zone, or who will want to watch it on BBC 1, are out of touch, and the least he could do was come up with better excuses.

as the founder ( and sole member ? ajkshjj ) of the Taiyang Tseng fandom, I think I speak for all of us when I say: they would make a lot of memes of him. and clown on him a lot. but occasionally, you'd get a tiktok fancam-edit stitching together all of his 'hot' moments with a loud, bass boosted song in the background :nod nod: THAT IS MY DREAMMM...

something m x m, probably. out of his base-game 'canonical' relationships, i.e. with my other OC's who are in the same universe as him . . . hMMmmMmMm. probably with his bandmate Sly, because they're ride-or-die besties, and Sly is kind of a hunky, sexi guy, hehe. when my other OC Tierney comes into the story later, though, people would ship them together SO hard; I already know it. I think that would be the most popular of his ships. Tierney is the guitarist, secondary vocalist, & a co-lead songwriter in another band, and he is part of Mazu's supernatural crew, like Tai. they're allies, but they do bicker a lot. Tierney is tall and gorgeous and broody... and he has a girlfriend ( the bassist in his band ) that he's completely devoted and monogamous to, but would that stop people from ravenously shipping Tai & Tierney? no... no it would not ajsjaj; fandom does as fandom wants. I could also see people misinterpreting the very brotherly bond Taiyang has with Etienne as something else. T^T because he is very protective of her and adores her... it is just a strictly platonic & familial love. but again: fanon will fanon asjajj. okay, but out of rp partners ? I'm going to exclude any of his actual ships, because... for spice. but mainly because fandom usually prefers the non-canon ships, lbh. T ^ T LOL. but the fandom would better be as obsessed with Taiqunn in crime verse as I am, pls!! hypothetical fandom, PLS doN'T SLEEP ON OUR TOXIC CRIME BBIES even though they're canon and het; give them some good fanworks pls, ajsajja. ok but so... @mystiika tai & jamie !! they are long-time best friends who do everything together, and they just get each other. can totally 100% see why people would ship it and I support them: even though Tai & Jamie only see each other as friends. YELLSSSS JUSTIN THERE ARE SO MANY BLORBOS!! This has also been tricky to think about because 'a romantic evening for a significant other' is not (necessarily) the same thing as 'a date', and also all of my OCs have either not been in an actual relationship in a long time, or have not been in one uhhh ever at all lmao

Elyss's idea of a romantic evening is private and intimate; I feel like she would plan something like an evening walk in the woods, but depending on the other person maybe also something cozy, like staying in and reading together by the fire (preferably the other person reading out loud to her)? I don’t think she’d plan anything near water for a romantic evening in case it distracted her (unless her partner can also breathe underwater, in which case yes yes obviously yes WHAT could be more romantic than sharing the overwhelming joy and peace of the quiet depths with someone you love)

Idri gets all her ideas about Romance from books and goes over the top setting up a fancy candlelit dinner, dancing, roses, chocolates, wine, rose petals all over the bedroom-- a very archetypal Whole Shebang. She can't cook, so the fancy dinner is at a fancy restaurant. She's the exact perfect blend of self-aware of how ridiculous it all is and playfully playing into that, while also being completely earnest about wanting it to be really fun and nice-- winking at them over the rose in her teeth, but only because she knows it’ll make them laugh

For Juniper, I feel like a part of her might be inclined to try to Do Things Correctly, especially if she’s not very confident yet in the relationship-- dinner, flowers, candles, dressing up probably. But if she’s more comfortable, she’d plan something less formally by the book, but more romantic to her, personally-- something like stargazing together, or getting up early just to watch the sunrise. There would still be flowers, but it’d be less ‘an obligatory bouquet in a vase’ and more ‘a bed of druidcrafted flowers she’s set up where they’re going to be stargazing’ or ‘a wild blossom tenderly tucked into her partner’s hair’

Aubree dotes-- she's cleaned the whole house, she's got a hot bath with candles and fancy soaps ready for them, she cooks their favorite dinner and dessert and presents it all as artfully as she can, and there's a bouquet of wildflowers on the table cause you've gotta have flowers if you're being romantic, she’s gonna give them a back rub at some point, etc. There’s also gonna be a lot of wine, cause wine pairs well with dinner and with dessert and with a cheese board and with backrubs and romantic bubble baths and suddenly that’s A Fair Bit, haha

Melliwyk is not especially good or well practiced at romance, so I think she’d struggle to figure out how to plan a romantic evening at all :’) I think she’d generally lean on Going Out (because that's what people do, isn't it?)-- a nice restaurant, or a museum or something-- preferably stuff more in line with the latter, because what could be more romantic than bonding over experiencing something interesting together? She probably would also bring a gift-- specifically, something personal and handmade

Nyssa’s romantic evening emphasizes sensuality; this is wine and chocolates in bed, surrounded by flowers and silks, and if you’re not already naked you’re overdressed. Her ‘plans’ aren’t any more specific than setting aside the entire evening, but the loose plan is to lounge and bask and talk and feed each other grapes and get drunk and play music and kiss a lot and get frisky whenever the spirit moves them

Kethri is the kind of person who loves going out and doing stuff, so I think a romantic evening (as opposed to a basic date night) would be a private night in, to center the relationship/ her partner and how much she cares about them. She’d dress up however she knows her partner likes best, and she’s probably written a song just for them, which she plays for them over after-dinner drinks by the fire. Kethri tends to be really playful and cheeky, so I think if she's planning a romantic evening it's going to highlight her tender and sincere side

Felix, even moreso than anyone else, is very minutely tailoring his to his partner’s tastes. In general, he really loves seeing people light up about the things that interest them and make them happy, so in a relationship, being able to do that for his partner would be the height of romance for him-- especially if it gives them an opportunity to get excited and talk about what interests them, like going to a play by a playwright they love so they can discuss the themes afterward, or whatever.

Um, also, this is a crossover ship I’ve only very casually indulged but this is SO specific to them I can’t just generalize about it: if the partner is Melliwyk, he has boobytrapped her entire house. Like, this is the ‘scavenger hunt that leads to the bedroom’ thing, but instead of clues that are just sheets of paper that amount to ‘look in the toaster’ the clues are all, like, meticulously planned escape room puzzles and actual riddles and shit. Also, they actually lead not to the bedroom but to a hot bath and an actual dinner, because the woman needs to be lovingly tricked into eating and relaxing literally ever
