Do you think Kit and Ty are going to work out in TWP? I just want to believe they do but after the letter I'm not sure. As one of the biggest kitty fans I think you need to asure us

I have to tell you (as one of the biggest kitty fans ofc) that I never once believed that Kit and Ty wouldn’t be endgame. Before I take a bit of a closer look at the characters themselves, let‘s have look at it from a writer’s perspective:

1) Cassie has been hinting Kit and Ty since they met in that basement in Lady Midnight (which btw was 8 years ago?!). And throughout Lord of Shadows and Queen of Air and Darkness, it became really clear that she intends for them to be lovers.

2) Since Cassie has been hinting KitTy for over 8 years now and it is one of the fandoms most popular uncanon ships, it‘s not possible that she won‘t make them endgame (which would cause an uproar in the fandom)

As from the character perspective: Kit and Ty weren‘t ready for a relationship after QoAaD. They are both in a place where they need to understand who they are and properly process everything that had happened. And since the letter takes place shortly after QoAaD, it‘s only logical that Kit still has super strong feelings about everything that happened - he hasn‘t processed anything yet. So when Kit and Ty meet again after 3 years apart, I just know that they will finally be at a place where they understand each other and are ready for each other.

I was reading your reblog of Julian-Tavvy and I was thinking, CC kinda has this "leaving" in all the books:

-TMI we see as its normal how Alec who was the """"older sibling authoritative figure"""" ends up leaving to live with Magnus and doing his own thing

-TDA Julian decides to step down and leave that charge to Helen, and finally enjoy a bit of freedom with Emma

-TID Gideon leaves the house and enjoys living his life how he wanted away from his father even if that meant leaving Gabriel and Tatiana behind for some time, Gabriel in the end goes back to him Tatiana doesnt

-TLH Jesse leaves Grace and turns on her, and decides to join the Herondales while buying her a house in the middle of nothing to be free of his family. Here personally I think it was weird he didnt show more empathy as he could have seen what Tatiana did to her, same as to him, that he saw nothing is a bit strange, but everything in that family is strange to put it midly

It makes me wonder what will happen in twp, because in some way or another they all """"""leave""""""" and go to a place with their partner or future partner, I wonder if one couple will have a similar parallel somehow in twp

Oooooo that’s an interesting thought process anon: I like it!! Also I have SO many opinions on how Jesse & Graces relationship was handled but that’s for another time (and a very long rant).

I agree with the trend of characters leaving- especially the older siblings (as you used in your example)!! I actually think the most interesting one here is actually Gideon- since him leaving made him become a better person, but it’s almost kinda selfish in a sense of who you know he left his siblings with (not Gideon hate- love my goat!).

How will all this be present in twp?! I think it’ll be similar to how all the other books kinda end, with all of them together but with the knowledge that they will definitely be doing something different or off somewhere else!!

I kind of imagine that Dru & Ash might have something to do with Faerie / stay there together. And that maybe Kit & Ty go on another road trip together??? Or settle down somewhere.

But this also made me realise: kits technically the only older sibling (unless Thais has siblings) in the group!!! This begs the question: how will he leave Mina?? My theory is that with all the mother Hawthorne stuff going on + first heir stuff- kit moves into the London institute which would parallel him going to the LA institute and also add onto him not really being able to ask for help- exzctly I’m so smart (I talk out my ass)

the emphasis on shipping in fandom culture is so wild to me to consider because like. there are certain things in jatp that I ship very emphatically, but I literally wrote myself into shipping them. when I was writing my first fics in the fandom, I didn’t plan for julie/luke/reggie or flarrie. I expected willex, because the show gave us that and gave me plenty of vibes to go “ok they like each other and would work together in the long term”. but especially with noncanon ships I always find myself stumbling into them as I plan or write a fic. I do sometimes set out to write a romance, but that’s usually when I’ve been in a fandom for a while and know “ok I like these dynamics and have had thoughts about shipping them in previous works, let’s dig into that.” and then I’m always writing like it’s a persuasive essay! like there are people reading who aren’t convinced about the ship, and I have to show my work.

even working with ocs it’s like, “ok I made this guy to be a friend for this character, but also I think that this particular dynamic would probably lead to romance and/or sex” (this thought brought to you by me knowing I haven’t touched my Jesse Lives au in forever) - actually I would say with ocs it’s most important because holy hell nobody is going to be automatically invested in your oc’s romantic or sexual life but you. you have to do a lot of legwork on that one unless your only intent is more of a reader insert vibe where ppl can imagine intimacy with their favourite character, which means they don’t care about your oc so much as they care about being able to project anyway. they already know why they’d be into this canon character. you don’t need to do anything there (which to be clear you do you, that just holds very little appeal for me for various reasons. live your dreams my friends)

and it’s just weird to me that people will write things where. it’s characters who don’t interact much. and then they don’t put any effort into making the reader ship it? they jump straight to “both characters are yearning and have been since they met” because they ship it, and they don’t require buildup, and I’m like “but how did you get here. why does it matter that they’re doing these things for each other.” and a lot of it tends to be a lack of deep characterisation, so it could be any two guys being gay (or. any ship. i’m maybe thinking about Certain Popular Gay Ships in fandom but also calling out baby me’s destiel obsession specifically. it’s fine no judgment but also fandom has a white gay man problem and that is a different post entirely) - and a lot of it also seems to be like. allosexual people (I assume from uhhh sexytime context clues) and definitely alloromantic people thinking that attraction alone is the legwork. like there’s nothing else to prove about a relationship. they like each other, boom, romance.

when you’re writing a romance, you don’t just have to have the characters woo each other (which. as a reader of both fic romance and original, published romances, let me tell you a lot of writers don’t even do that) - you have to make the ship woo the readers. draw us in. prove to us in word and action that these two care, make each other better (or worse, I write some toxic codependent shit too), that there is some reason to want them together and not settle for whatever preexisting dynamic they have. why does it matter that these people are in love? why are these obstacles worth overcoming? what does it add to a non-romance story to have this ship in it?

I would like romances that romance me, damn it

Okay listen, I don‘t truly know if it‘s an unpopular opinion since the fandom so rarely talks about it! My unpopular opinion is that I think it‘s the best if Livvy truly gets to rest in piece after TWP. To be honest, I don‘t even consider her being totally resurrected because I believe we will see her kind of losing her mind in TWP. And I think at the end of TWP, Ty will be able to let her go and say his final goodbye.
