Most theater I’ve seen was my high school’s plays and those were fucking epic

But I was on the tech crew, so I saw and even participated in the shit ton of effort and prep work that goes on. From rigging the flats (background pieces that get raised and lowered) to putting mics on people, changing slides on projectors, spotlighting, rigging rented smart lights, etc.

And by god do I now give so little fucks about “bad quality effects”

Even though the plays at my schools were good. Like Really Good.

I’ve tried basic makeup like once, that shits not easy. Neither is sewing, which I was decent at once upon a time.

Having an understanding about the time and effort that go into even the least of the effects and parts of the show gave me so much perspective

Having dabbled in all sorts of things also gives me perspective in how much skill is needed for things like adding digital effects as well

To all the people who’ve worked on media that had “rubbish effects” or is “low quality”. Your time and effort, and the probable heart and passion you put into it make it valuable. Thank you.

genuinely, i think watching live theatre can improve your media literacy so much

like people who look at doctor who and are like 'lol the effects are so rubbish'

maybe watch a stage play where there's no backdrops and half the characters are played by the same three guys in different hats and maybe you will calm down

Hello, I want to tell you about my story. My name is Mahmoud Helles. I have been a refugee in Belgium for 7 years. I live in a refugee center and do not have residency in Belgium. I left Gaza and left my pregnant wife. I didn't see my baby when he was born and I wasn't there. He is now 6 years old and I have 4 children, the eldest of whom is 13 years old. I have no childhood memories with my children, and I fear I will be deprived of them. My wife suffers from kidney problems, her left kidney was removed, and she now lives with one kidney. Also, due to the war and the lack of treatment, her health has deteriorated, and if I lose his life, my children will remain in Gaza homeless, without their mother and their expatriate father for that.
