imagine percy swimming to the bottom of the ocean. not to save a group of sea creatures. not to show off his skillset. and not to prance around as the sea god's favorite son. but to join the ocean in all that it is. laying in the soft sand and watching the fish swim by. the lobsters making space for him as he rests his head against a patch of seaweed. him laughing at the irony. imagine percy making small talk with all the different sea creatures and assigning them names. him actually running into a whale he named phillip who's on his way to propose to his boyfriend. and percy wishing him good luck and offering his blessing on their union. imagine percy making small talk with the starfish about his favorite dinosaur. and explaining to the collective group what a dinosaur is and why they don't need to worry about them reaching the bottom of the ocean. just. percy immersiving himself in all that's aquatic because it's where he can be his most self.

Things to Do with Plushies that aren’t Traditional Pretend Play

If you regress/dream to an older age range, you might not play pretend as often, if at all. That said, there’s no reason why you still can’t enjoy your plushies’ company.

Cuddle them as you go to sleep. This one is pretty obvious, but I think it deserves a place on this list.

Make them little Kandi collars with their name in letter beads. You can make a matching bracelet or necklace for yourself too!

On that note, sew clothes for them and dress them up. This one might require some supervision because of the pins and needles, but it’s usually worth it.

Set them up so that they look like they’re doing the same activity as you are. (Putting a controller in front of them if you’re gaming, pretending to feed them bits of your meal, setting them up in front of the TV so they can enjoy the programs with you, etc) This one veers into pretend play, but it’s not as involved so I figured I’d include it.

Put them into your purse/backpack/bag so they can keep you company on your errands or other trips you take.

Set them up in nature or around the house and take photos of them. You can even scrapbook with the photos.

If they are sturdy enough, give them a bubble bath and then either stick them in a pillowcase and put it in the dryer, or air dry them in the sun. This is good for bonding with them, and general maintenance to keep them clean.

Write about them. You can make little character profiles for them, or even full stories! This is good if you have a hard time playing pretend but you still want to feature them in imaginative contexts.

Draw/paint pictures of them and hang them on your wall!

Finally, if this is something you’re up for, set up a side blog for your favorite plushie and document their life online. Make blog posts from their perspective, have them take “selfies” etc!

⭐️Things to Help you Middle Regress⭐️

This is just what I could think of. Feel free to add on to this list!

Change into clothes with characters that you like on them. I see a lot of cartoon tshirts at Hot Topic, if you’re wondering where to get them.

Play some pop songs or edgy music- or whatever kind of thing you’d listen to in 5th grade.

Write in a journal. Misspell words on purpose, use your non-dominant hand, etc this one helps me slip a lot!

Prepare a snack. Something kiddish in a little bowl, like cut up fruits or goldfish crackers, and a drink (make sure to stay hydrated) in a themed water bottle.

A nostalgic scent can help a lot. You can get scented candles (or wax and a wax warmer if ur scared of fire like me) in scents like fresh laundry, or sugar cookies, and even cut grass.

Dim the lights if it’s late. This helps me relax. If you have fairy lights or a night-light, you can turn those on too.

Put on some big kid cartoons in the background, or even just play the theme song and listen to it.

If you want something more stimulating, go and hang out at a mall. Go into the most nostalgic stores (for me it’s Claire’s or Hot Topic.) Adults shop there all the time, so even if you’re secretive about your regression it won’t look out of place!

If the mall isn’t your thing, wait until it gets dark and then hang out at an empty playground.

Back to the more relaxing side of things: curl up in bed and surround yourself with your comfort items.

You can find computer games that are meant to teach late elementary/middle school math, spelling, history, etc. Try playing one and getting some of it wrong on purpose.

Play a nostalgic video game that was popular when you were chronologically the age you regress to! Even if it doesn’t make you slip, this one is just plain fun.

Read middle grade books. Bonus points for doing it under the covers with a flashlight.
