4."Edwardian Gothic": Heavy Metal + Crandestine Author: Jet Orlowski

As he was lost in his love fantasies, Jet thought…. What does "Beauty" mean to him and who can he honestly call "beautiful"? In his head, it was a woman from a rich mansion in a beautiful expensive dress and with vintage ceremonial jewelry that only she can afford to make to order. It doesn't matter what actions she has done or what kind of face she has - the main thing is that she can show her charm and ability to conduct successful and profitable negotiations…. Of course, he considers other people's treasures beautiful, who would doubt it. It was for such an ideal lady that Jet dedicated his work of art from Crandestine found from nowhere, whose effect corresponds to his ideas about a "good deal". After all, this crystal literally brought him out of his state and made him give him all his savings. And what can a competent owner do with such decorations… It's better not to even know.

5."Plumbob": Plathinum + Plumbite Author: Tessie Emerald

Tessie decided to create a piece of jewelry that would help spellcasters in their daily lives again, but she changed its content. For this, she decided to use Plumbite, whose property of slowly restoring the character's needs and making those around her happier inspired the lady to create her jewelry. All that was left was to come up with a suitable shape that would symbolize it. This was a little more difficult…. She searched for a long time in the sources for what symbol could personify "a person and his needs", until she suddenly remembered her late uncle's old plumb bob in a dusty box. The diamond-shape of the weight suddenly reminded the lady of an old belief about a same shaped green figure that hangs over their heads and connects them with "The Watcher", thus deciding the fate of the jewelry and creating the "Plumbob" treasure.

6."Delicate": Silver + Quartz Author: Quartz Bird

When Quartz looked at her favorite crystal, for some reason she remembered the legend of the enchanted lake, where swans gathered every night and turned into ordinary girls. They were enchanted by one evil wizard, who tried with all his might to win the hand and heart of the Queen of Swan. And although the ability to turn into a person was at least some salvation for these unfortunate creatures, in order to completely remove the spell, the bride and her lover had to sacrifice themselves and the life of the villain in order to free themselves. Is it possible to "inspire" anyone with happiness without these sacrifices? Yes, and it has even been available to spellcasters since ancient times. "Delicate" jewelry, which is as delicate and fragile as the prince's promise to love the Swan Princess until the end of his life, while, under the spell of an evil magician, proposing an engagement to a completely different person. However, it is so easy that you won’t even notice how you have become many times happier than before.

after reading this fic by @greatinternetllama , i’ve been brainrotting about cryptid states but more specifically cryptid!california

 im assuming how he’s described in the fic is based off of dark watchers, but i also wanted to build off of that and add a few chupacabra traits (also a popular cryptid in california)

southwestern u.s. folklore typically describes the chupacabra as a dog-like creature, compared to latin american descriptions

also- had to leave the beanie colored haha, it felt a little weird having it be black

i also think california’s skin, occasionally, will feel scaly to the touch. this is pulled from tahoe tessie and (lake elsinore) elsie

it is said dark watchers disappear if you get too close, though, so who really knows if this is true. only other states would be able to confirm this, but maybe they dont notice a difference

lake tahoe is in both california and nevada, so nevada would probably also occasionally have scaly skin

Plant, could you elaborate a bit more on Tessy’s background? I don’t follow her either, but know she’s seen as kind of a royal outcast or a joke, similar to Meghan I guess. Did she also come from a destitute, shoddy upbringing like Meghan? I know, I know, her father paid for private schools in LA; but it’s obvious that she had a very different upbringing than her classmates who came from actual wealthy, stable families. Meghan was always an outcast in that right.

Oh, boy. I didn’t follow her that closely. However, my understanding is that she came from a lower middle class family and went to a local community college (or the equivalent in Luxembourg). Then she joined the army and volunteered to be a UN peacekeeper in Kosovo. So she came from “humble” beginnings. Her family, however, didn’t seem dysfunctional like the Markles or ambitious like the Middletons. As far as I know (which isn’t very far, lol) they just wanted to be left alone. 

She had a nice love story because she met her husband in Kosovo. She was driving him around during his service there. He was 19 and she was a little older. It was like a Hallmark movie.

The big problem, however, was that she got knocked up right away. I don’t think anyone knew of the relationship until the pregnancy was announced. We all kind of went “wait, what?” when the palace announced that Louis was expecting a child. They were both teenagers, so the whole thing seemed...not good. The Dukes were Catholic (and I think Tessy’s family may have been Catholic too), so they put a good face on it and the baby was welcomed. However, it affected Tessy’s public image. She got branded a gold-digger early on.

They didn’t get married until a year after the baby was born, which also affected her image. I remember a lot of discussion about it with people saying they should have gotten married quietly before the baby was born and other people saying that of course she didn’t want a quiet wedding. Eyebrows were raised when she chose a sexy strapless dress for the wedding, but it was off-the-rack (I think Pronovias may be the equivalent to David’s Bridals) and it enhanced her “regular girl” credentials.

Louis had to give up his place in the line of succession, but they both got titles. They settled down but Tessy didn’t seem to work very much. She did have kids and I think she studied for a while. I think she also did a small amount of UN work, not nearly as much as people expected. She also seemed prone to odd meltdowns during interviews and on social media. She would hint that she was unhappy.

She later revealed she had been sexually assaulted in Kosovo and she had a miscarriage and tons of family drama.

It also came out that Maria Teresa’s character is way stronger than anyone thought and living with her was likely harder than anyone imagined. Tessy probably had a hard time with her as well.

I dunno. I personally never warmed to Tessy. I thought she was cunning, trashy, and dramatic. Other royal watchers were more sympathetic. Maybe some of the anons have more insightful comments.

Pyrenees to L’Escala

An early but very pleasant start to the day with video calls with both families for our Dads’ birthdays. It was lovely to see and talk to everyone.

We hit the road a little after 9am, heading first towards Tarbes and then east to Perpignan. The eastward leg took quite a while but was absolutely lovely so we’re now considering doing it again as some bicycle touring where we can stop and enjoy all the little villages, wineries, etc. Foix in particular is quite lovely.

Now if you’re a Tour watcher you will know that the Tour finished in a climb just above Foix today. I knew it was another climbing day but hadn’t really looked focused on where the start or finish were. Further I had erroneously assumed they would be heading east towards the Alps, but alas no - they had transferred east and were riding west. All too late we joined the dots as we drove smack bang into all the road closures.

It would have been lovely to have the time to stop and see the riders again but we still had a long way to go so after s couple of false starts we navigated our way around the route. We then spent the next part of our drive going the opposite way to the riders along the course. Even though the riders were long gone there were still people partying along the route. I also managed to score a Tour direction sign. I’d seen them in a lot of the other motorhomes on the road so decided we needed one too.

We finally arrived in L’Escala. We have never been here in high season and although we’d heard the tales it was still a shock to see the long queue of cars leaving L’Escala at the end of the weekend. We’d also planned on just parking out near the ruins but the place was teeming with people so thankfully there was room for us in the campground we usually use here.

Parked, we decided to head to the beach for a drink. You can tell we’re back in Spain, the g&ts are huge 😄

Dinner back at Tessi and now we’re catching up on social media over a night cap before retiring to bed.

I hope there would be outrage as big as d&g, gucci, for the abuse and worker exploitation in third world countries. But the brand like nike,h&m,zara is too big to be dragged down. Tons of reports of abuse yet people still buy their products. I especially despise Nike. One Nike shoes is worth about half of the wage of factory worker here. And Nike produces thousand of shoes. In first world countries, Nike is affordable shoes, but here it's so fucking expensive, and it's a luxury to wear one.

This is absolutely true and I mentioned ethical consumerism in one of my posts. In the video that wouldn’t upload (eff you technology) I mentioned Nike specifically. My university used Nike as its athletics outfitter so a lot of university gear was Nike. Students had a lot of protests and there was actually a showing of Behind the Swoosh (which details the terrible conditions at Nike factories) on campus so it’s something I was familiar with before I was a royal watcher. Zara famously steals designs from small artists and indie brands. How many of the brands men wear are similarly problematic?

Basically, yes you could extrapolate this out a ton. And I do see the value of being a more conscious consumer of everything you buy. But I still think, particularly the Gucci gown, was an especially egregious decision by Kate and her team that I don’t like.

And this isn’t aimed at you anon. But I think people don’t get this about my opinions of Kate and Meghan mostly but all Royals. I can dislike a decision or an outfit and still love the royal. If I really don’t like a royal (ie Rania or Tessy...wait she isn’t a royal) trust me you’ll know.

five more facts about the society you should know.

let me hit y’all hard and fast with this knowledge.

1. the training process isn’t entirely dissimilar to the statesman. physically stressful, yeah, but by and large far more tailored to enhance and strengthening the talents already present in each individual agent. the entire society is made up a very diverse, colorful, multi-faceted cast with abilities ranging from energy manipulation/weaponizing and shapeshifting, to second sight and invisibility--not to mention running a wiiiiiide gamut of social and cultural backgrounds. variety is the spice of life after all.

2. there is also a strict code of ethical use of these abilities (generally they just refer to the entire business as “magic” to save time). agents are expected only to use their gifts/talents for the benefit of the mission or for the common good at large. (basically, don’t be an asshole. this isn’t rocket surgery.) punishments may include solitary confinement (by being assigned to ‘sasquatch observation,’ which basically means they’re going to ship you off to some cement compound in the far north and say it’s for research but really you’re in a very severe timeout) or other kinds of quarantine. very few agents have fucked up so badly that they were decommissioned by the board; usually when that happens, you’re either going to lose your memories, your sanity, or your life. 

3. and given the types of people employed by roanoke, the actual recruitment process is difficult. there’s a set of technical officers, the watchers, whose sole purpose is to track strange happenings across the country or spikes in apparently supernatural activity. this is, in part, what led to them finding seraphim. they also offer positions to people who’ve fallen on the wrong side of the law, giving them a chance at a better life and an opportunity to hone the very parts of themselves that may have driven them to crime in the first place. (this was a practice begun very early on, and was niniane‘s idea, inspired by the then-arthur.)

4. by and large the most complicated case that the roanoke society’s ever been involved in is the dyatlov pass incident. which--i guess domestically that title would go to literally everything having to do with the infamous paradise ranch, but outside of that, the pass takes it. the cold war was on, and the presence of roanoke agents was given to порядок снега и солнца--the order of snow and sun, russia’s roanoke society equivalent--both to help show goodwill to russia and to lend a hand in the case. apparently, things got deep. the files are locked in a glass cabinet in lillith’s office and haven’t been touched since 1992. no one who has read the files can discuss the contents under threat of immediate decommission.

5. not to say that the society successfully keeps its nose clean all the time. let’s just say that the sinking of a certain ship may or may not have been caused by an artifact on board, which the society didn’t have the means to retrieve until several decades later. they barely snuck under the radar of other research groups--and then got stopped by a naval ship.let’s just say that we are very, very lucky that agent tessie is fantastic at playing stupid. the artifact in question is currently locked in one of the basements of the society under the eye of technical officers wyvern and drake. be prepared to be yelled at in a strong boston accent if you come within so much as two feet of the door. (and also to overhear them making another “something in the water” joke to themselves--again.)
