Delicious Destiny. 8.5
Story: 9
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 10
Comparable to: the Perfect Match (Taiwanese drama) ; Chocolate (kdrama) ;
This is one of those melodramas that are highly frustrating, that suck you in even though you scream and roll your eyes at everyone’s antics. Especially when practically half the cast is manipulative and evil. I mean you have a few of the main characters and her side of the family who are just the pushpins for the the villains to torture. And yes, I’m looking at you grandma and Ye Yi Lan! I don’t know which one was worse (well probably grams since she tried grooming her granddaughter into her so yeah.) I also doesn’t help that the main male lead is dumb and naive as the female lead. I hate to use dumb too, but I don’t know how many times he blankly trusts his ‘female best friend’ after she tries to sabotage everything fifty million times. Nevertheless the drama is highly engaging, very entertaining and enjoyable. Would I watch it again. Hell no, but I would definitely recommend it once for those who like it melodramatic and soapy.

At the moment, you can also find this video on YouTube, but I don't trust their overzealous copyright bots to ignore that this is clearly fair use so I'm uploading it to Tumblr, too.
In Episode 9 of Season 3 of 我们的歌/Our Song, Da Zhangwei and Wang Sulong sang a medley of twelve songs titled We All Have a Home. Having never heard any of them before, I was curious, so I found all the original songs. Since some are things like folk songs, these are obviously not THE original recordings of all of them, but previous performances of the traditional version of the song.
Their performance (if you haven't seen it before, definitely watch first!) The full episode of Our Song
My other sources are below the cut:
Usuri/Wasili Boat Song
Birds on Trees in Pairs - from the opera 天仙配 (Fairy Match)
Love Song of Kangding
Feng Yang Flower Drum
Guests From Afar Please Stay - from the movie Ashima
Brother Liu's Speech is Too Biased - from the opera Hua Mulan
Nunchucks by Jay Chou
Big Bowl of Tea at the Front Gate by Li Guyi
Beijing's Bridge by Cao Guoqing
Back to Mother's Home by Teresa Teng
Great China
Sa Hua by Da Zhangwei

Sun x Moon in The On1y One
I wrote briefly earlier about the “looking at the moon” scene in episode eleven of The On1y One, but regardless of how this cookie crumbles in the last episode, I think this conversation was excellent.
The boys are the sun and the moon, which I wrote about at the midway point of the series.
Wang is sun-coded. He is yellow and orange. He is openly friendly to his peers and warm toward them.
And the show has stated that he is the sun like when Wang was teasing Tian about the love poems he marked in the book, all the love poems were about the sun!
A girl's shyness is like a tender cherry under the sunlight; 16- and 17-year-olds are like fruits in the morning sun, sparkling
Therefore, the love poems were about Wang.
Tian is moon-coded. He is blue (and black). He isolates himself from his peers and is cold toward them. And now the show is stating that.,
But just like the book of love poems that revealed how Tian feels about Wang, we get an indirect glimpse of how Wang feels about Tian through this conversation.
It doesn't matter how good or bad the subtitles are because the focus is that Tian views the moon as something bad.
Life has it's ups and downs just like the moon waxes and wanes. It feels like everything connected to the moon is sad and full of regret. The moon shines on Earth every day, but only lights up half of it. Is that half kind of an eternity?
Tian thinks of himself and his life as sad. Everything that is connected to him, he thinks is full of regret. And he only allows people to see his outside by never letting others in. Yet Wang started this conversation off by stating his mom loved the moon and the Teresa Tang song, which we all of know since it was also featured in Moonlight Chicken!
youtube
"The Moon Represents My Heart" is an extremely popular Chinese song:
You ask how deeply I love you And just how great my love is My affection does not waver And my love doesn’t change The moon represents my heart
So not only has Wang established that he was raised to love the moon, but he also mentions this song which declares that he feels very deeply for his love and the fullness of the moon represents that love, which is probably why in the fourth episode, he was on the moon when his rocket ship came to get him.
In response to Tian's comments about the moon, Wang offers his take on the moon:
I don't agree with that. I think the moon often symbolizes light and hope, so even if it's only half, or just a moment, a second, as long as it's imprinted in your mind, it's eternal.
The conversation began because Wang's mom would ask his dad to pick between the moon and the sixpence, and in this, we see the great debate of love versus money, the future versus the present, and the abstract versus the practical. The moon is far and can't be held yet the sixpence is close and can be held. The moon would take time to get to, but the sixpence is within reach. The moon is a thought since it holds no value that can be seen, but the sixpence is money that can be used! And that's why the moon is love. And that's why Tian is the moon.
The Eclipse, Big Dragon, and Moonlight Chicken are just some BLs that gave us this sun and moon,
And the thing that they all get right is that the moon isn't the negative while the sun is positive.
The sun can burn. The sun can blind. The sun can harm. So it isn't always the positive entity that people tend to make it out to be. But the moon offers light in darkness. The moon guides the water in and out of the shores. The moon gives hope and guidance to those struggling.
So Wang's mom wanted him to pick the moon because she wanted him to pick love. She wanted him to see the possibilities rather than settle for what he had, which wasn't much. She wanted him to look to the future instead of worrying the present. She wanted him to not fear the distance, but instead know that the moon would guide him toward it. She wanted him to have hope.
And Tian gave him all of that.
So the conversation is lasagna. It has layers. It's about all these different things, but all these different things are the same thing. It's about Wang's mom. It's about the moon. It's about Tian. It's about love.
And it's about hope because regardless of what happens and no matter the distance, the moon always shines in the darkest of times, and guides those who are lost.
So even if everything looks bleak and all hope is lost, the moon will guide you home.
#the on1y one#when Tian thinks he is just a ball of sadness#when Tian thinks nobody can see him#Wang tells him he is hope#Wang tells him that he is light#Wang tells him that he can see him#the colors mean things#color coded boys in love#the sun x the moon#Youtube

The Role of Taiwanese Artists in Shaping the Modern Sound of Asia
Taiwan has been a cultural melting pot for decades in Asia, with longstanding heritage that melds together traditional Chinese culture and contemporary influences. The island's popular music, rock, and indie have influenced the soundscape of current Asian music. The Taiwanese artists haven't just become vociferous in the evolution of Mandopop but also in its amalgamation and integration of various styles which has given it the disruptive sounds that defined its path and gave it a unique place in the world.
Emergence and Early Sounds
During the 1980s and early 1990s, Taiwan experienced a pioneering wave of Mandopop with Chinese Mandarin pop music from its home artists. Artists like Teresa Teng and Jacky Cheung paved the way for the direction the genre subsequently took and contributed to leading subsequent generations of musicians. Taiwan's music industry- an ideal blend of Western influences, interwoven into the fabric of traditional Asian melodies-provided the excellent space for experimenting with innovation. Taiwanese artists began establishing a niche blending the sounds of Western pop with local Taiwanese, Chinese, and even global musical trends.
The Integration of Genres and Inter-Cultural Cooperation
Taiwanese musicians entered the 21st century with an experience of inter-cultural cooperation. They experimented with various styles-a true lotus blossom when it came to the integration of various genres: rock, hip-hop, R&B, electronic music, and jazz. This probably was caused by openness in cultures of Taiwan as a country at the crossroads between East and West. Taiwanese artists had been inspired by the global pop scene but were generally a distinct phenomenon in the local flavor.
One of the most influential artists in this wave of innovation is Wang Leehom also known as the “King of the Chinese pop”. Wang Leehom has written himself into history due to his ability to introduce sounds of modern China into modern pop, R&B, and hip-hop. Wang has therefore earned himself one of the most influential figures in Mandopop. He even transcended the cultural bounds as his way of music placed him at the credit line to popularize "Chinked-out" music, where Chinese instruments and melodies could be fused with the Western urban music. His ability to join old with new made him a trendsetter in Taiwanese music and a modern Asian sound ambassador.
Taiwan as a Launchpad for Global Success
Whilst serving as a presence in the Mandopop environment, Taiwan is home to the new wave of artists who have started to influence world markets. Taiwanese pop gained greater notoriety throughout Asia and also into Western marketplaces thanks to artists such as Jolin Tsai, Jay Chou, and A-mei. Not to mention one artist alone Jay Chou is generally regarded as an icon of today's Mandopop and is able to integrate traditional Chinese musical ideas with hip-hop, rap, and rock influences.
Additionally, the independent music scene in Taiwan has exploded in recent years, as groups like 831, Sodagreen, and Mayday brought an alternative, eclectic sound to the table that was heard by young people throughout the region. These musicians challenge a mainstream at the same time while holding fast to a strong sense of Taiwanese identity, proving that Taiwan's influence on modern Asian music is both diverse and far-reaching.
Impact on Asian Music Scene
Taiwanese artists influence not only the production of music but also trend in the world of fashion, video production, and even the influence on the general culture. In many ways, music videos have become such a strong force of creativity, allowing artists to provide their visions and reach fans across the globe. Many of these pop stars, like Wang Leehom who is Taiwanese by origin, use visualization stories that accompany their music and create experiences that resonate with audiences in Asia as well as around the world.
Conclusion
Taiwan has surely shaped the sounds of modern Asian. Taiwanese artists have always been at the center of developing the Mandopop and beyond. Mandopop, even from its early times, had musicians who were always bent towards innovation-from the genre-blending groupies of today to the authentic sound that emerged in the earlier stages of Mandopop, Taiwanese musicians have always been at the forefront of Asia's musical innovation, be it the generous ratings they garner or the influence they share with various actors and groups around the world. In particular, Wang Leehom still represents the biggest figure in this movement as he never ceases to further push the history of Asian music and continues punching bigger holes in the cookie jar of global domination. With Taiwan's music industry always developing, it remains a driving force shaping the future of Asian pop and beyond.

Renungan 9Okt2023
Bacaan Injil Luk 10,25-37
