I’m thinking about Crowley’s failed proposal at the end of S2.

Historically, Crowley has always been good at the subtler aspects of his job. He enjoys orchestrating beautifully crafted temptations, but it’s for the art of it, not because he particularly wants anyone to go to Hell. We’ve seen him tempting Aziraphale throughout history. Whenever he wants something from his angel, he’s found sneaky ways to get it (the loaded coin toss in the Globe), or more actively tempted him— the ox ribs, the heavy seduction of excellent food and good wine to get him onside for working to stop the apocalypse.

It might seem underhanded of him, except that we’ve seen how it turns out for him whenever he’s just asked for what he needs, seriously and without manipulation of any kind.

We see it in 1862 when he asks for holy water, which he needs quite desperately to protect himself, and we see it again at the end of S2 in the final fifteen. In 1862, he asks without artifice, but he doesn’t make his case— he just flat asks. In the final fifteen, he’s been psyching himself up. He hasn’t had long to prepare, but he’s had 6000 years of reasons. So he tries, agonizingly, for the first time, to make a straight argument. To just say what he wants. It’s difficult for him. It’s not something he’s ever tried to do. He proposes without temptation. Just presents his case, as best he can, flustered and interrupted as he is.

Part of what makes that scene so agonizing is that Crowley’s putting himself so far out on a limb. He goes so far outside of his comfort zone. He doesn’t want to tempt his angel into this— he wants it to be real. He longs to stop all of the hiding and dancing around each other. He wants to just ask, plainly, for what wants. He wants for his angel to choose him, no tricks. For real.

I know there are tons of theories about secret communication during the final fifteen, but honestly I prefer the scene as it appears to be— a miscommunication between two people who love each other, but who have never been able to be free and open with each other. And now, when they most need, Crowley tries, and it fails spectacularly. It is perfect agony.

This show exists in the era even before Tsunami had to cut out scenes from Sailor Moon where characters were on bikes without helmets and very badly photoshop a seat belt onto Ami because they would not depict unsafe behaviors for kids to replicate.

LMAO It's must worse in motion too. Believe me.

So this is a case where Brooklyn is wearing a helmet for out of universe reasons. What's even more interesting to me is that the reference they made to Lexington having driven one before, he absolutely had not been wearing a helmet. I wonder if they got in trouble after that aired. XD Not bad enough to have it edited out like Elisa's blood in a future episode.

But it's no fun to shrug something off as done 'because creators had to' and I love that they knew that too.

It's not about the helmet.

It's all a part of the look!

And it very much does suit Brooklyn. Any one of them would enjoy the act of playing the part, but it works that Brooklyn is the one to set the example, to go out of his way to find what he thought of a 'biker gear.'

And for Broadway to help him into the coat like it's almost ceremonial?! LOVE THAT!

This whole sequence also speaks to how clearly they have discussed in advance, maybe even drawn straws or something, who will be the first to ride the bike after it's fixed. Absolutely adorable.
