Call me simple minded, but I think writing down what’s on your mind, is not only valuable for yourself but also for the people desperate to read something relatable. At least that’s why I read the most touching stories and end up crying like a 3 year old. Anyway, guess that’s what I’m gonna try and do here. Not with the purpose to get recognition from someone, but for myself.

Side note. It would be a bonus if someone reads my stories and ends up finding the kind of comfort I never found. But that’s said between you and me.

Well it's time I headed back home to my beloved Caledonia and see my Highlands Brothers and Sister's ⚔️🛡️🧔

All this coming weekend I will be at The Scone Palace Game Fair or The Scottish Game Fair as some call it.

I will be on the Night Pearl International thermal stand demonstrating, telling stories, game calling, book signing and so much more.

You will also catch me on The Pass It On Young Sports Scotland stand supporting my awesome Scottish Regional Director Ken and his brilliant Scottish Team.

Mình rất ngưỡng mộ tình yêu của ông bà ngoại. Mẹ mình từng kể ông bà mình cưới nhau do gia đình ông sắp xếp. Ông hồi đó cao ráo đẹp trai phong lưu, bà thì thấp, nhan sắc cũng chẳng có gì đặc biệt, lại còn hơn ông 2 tuổi, nhưng bà chăm làm lụng. Nên hiển nhiên, ông không chấp nhận cuộc hôn nhân này, và còn bỏ nhà đi. Nhưng rồi thì nhà vẫn là nhà, nên rồi ông cũng lại về và sống với bà. Có rất nhiều lúc mình nghĩ đến chuyện đó cảm thấy thật khó tin rằng quá khứ đã diễn ra như vậy. Mỗi lần sang nhà ông bà chơi, hình ảnh đầu tiên mà mình thấy luôn là ông ngồi đó ở sofa, bên cạnh bà, không nói gì cả, chỉ là ngồi cạnh nhau mà thôi. Ông mình yếu và hay phải vào viện nằm lại vài ngày, những lúc như thế ông hay đòi về. Mình cười trêu hỏi ông nhớ bà à. Như một đứa trẻ thơ, ông thật thà gật đầu “Ừ, nhớ." Hay như có 1 lần mấy đứa cháu tụi mình xúm lại giành bà về nhà nuôi. Ông nắm chặt tay bà bảo tụi mình là “Không cho bà đi. Bà ở với ông." Những ngày tháng cuối của ông, bà lập cập đi ra đi vào phòng, bỏ ăn bỏ uống, ngồi đó nắm tay ông đã mất ý thức phải thở bằng bình oxy. Bà nói những câu khàn khàn thủ thỉ rằng "Ông ơi ông ăn gì để tôi nấu. Ông ăn cháo nhé? Ông dậy đi ông nói tôi nghe nào thì tôi mới biết được chứ." Lặp đi lặp lại, mỗi giờ. Ngày ông mình mất, mình hoảng hốt đến độ về đến đúng cổng nhà thì ngã xe. Khi mình ngẩng đầu lên thì hình ảnh đầu tiên mình nhìn thấy là bà ngồi lọt thỏm trong góc sân cạnh cửa nhà, lặng thinh, nước mắt tràn da mặt nhăn nheo. Sự tĩnh lặng ấy còn xé nát lòng mình hơn cả những tiếng khóc than xung quanh. Mình nghĩ mình đã nhìn thấy một tình yêu gọi là mãi mãi. --- I really admired my grandparents' love story. My mom said that their marriage was arranged by my grandfather's family. Back then, my grandpa was a tall, handsome and elegant man while my grandma was short with average beauty. She was even 2 years older than my grandpa, but she was really hardworking. My grandpa didn't accept this marriage at first; he even left home. But home is still home, so he returned to live with my grandma. It is hard to believe that they went through such a thing in the past. Whenever I dropped into their house, the first thing I saw was my grandpa sitting on the sofa, right next to her, without saying a word. Just sitting next to each other! My grandpa was weak so he often had to go to hospital for a few days. Almost all of those times, he asked to be taken home. I often joked by asking if he missed grandma. Quite frankly, he just nodded like a child: "Yeah, I really do!" Another time, I, together with some other kids, competed with our grandpa to take care of our grandma. Holding her hand tight, he was like: "I won't let her go. She must be here with me." During his last days, she went back and forth to his room, shivering, without having a meal. She just held his hand - the hand of an unconscious old man using oxygen concentrator. She cooed: "What would you like to eat? Some porridge? Wake up and tell me so I can cook for you," repeating it every hour. When he passed away, I was so shocked that I fell off my bike as soon as I hit home. When I looked up, what I first saw was my grandma sitting in the corner of the yard, silently, with tears all over her face full of wrinkles. The silence broke my heart even more than all the mourning around. It was then that I saw something called the eternal love!

The Bootleg Lady of Glacier Park

In 2012, Glacier National Park purchased 120 acres of land known as the Doody homestead, incorporating it into the park. From 1892 to 1931, this parcel was home to an infamous character in the region’s history – Josephine Doody, “the bootleg lady of Glacier Park.”​ ​

Josephine and her husband Dan carved out a living for themselves in a remote area on the banks of the Flathead River. Dan Doody found success as an outfitter and guide, also serving as one of Glacier’s early rangers until he was fired, presumably for poaching. Josephine became known as a producer of high-quality moonshine, which she would run across the river to passing trains of the Great Northern Railway.​ ​

The remains of the homestead continue to reveal clues about the Doodys’ story. In a 2018 survey of the site, historical archeologist Kelli Casias and other researchers found a previously undocumented agricultural field, possibly used for growing grain. This discovery could support a theory that Josephine increased alcohol production during Prohibition to capitalize on black market prices. Along with other historical and physical evidence, such as details of a federal raid on the property in 1928 and an early model tractor left behind, scientists like Casias hope to tell a more comprehensive story of the past.​ ​

“What we found in our survey,” says Casias, “is that the homestead is much more than just a setting for a story about a poacher and a bootlegger. It is a time capsule that holds the material remains of 40 years of Montana history. The site stands as a testament to how history was lived, rather than how it was made.”​ ​

It is up to all of us to preserve history of past peoples. Each fragment of stone, each bottle, or nail is an irreplaceable part of Glacier's story, and we are all their stewards. Please remember to leave them undisturbed.​ ​
