oh i have a question. if you are not involved with a church that celebrates easter as a holy day do you celebrate easter. or did you as a kid. if so what was the holiday about for you?
#i meant to ask this also for st patricks day for noncatholics so if you celebrate that and aren't catholic and wanna tell me about it pls do#particularly american irish catholics. its big for my family but im curious what its life for other demographics#anyways having celebrated easter pretty much only as a holy day and i've always been curious what the appeal is for non xtian folks#easter is supposed to be like. happy obviously. yay he's back#but for my childhood the holy week preceding was just full of profound grief#so it was a weird turn of vibes that i found difficult to manage#despite knowing this is how it works every year#walked past the easter section of the supermarket yesterday and it reminded me that ive wanted to ask this#orating!

I promise I am almost done talking about this (I said, probably lying), but honestly I think autistic people would benefit from not approaching conversations and interactions with the mindset that the person you're about to talk to is That Mean Evil Neurotypical Who Wants To Force Their Mean Evil Neurotypical Conversation Style on you.
#actually autistic#this is by no means a thing every autistic person does#but it's definitely a vibe I've gotten from some comments on my recent posts#“why are you trying to impose this NT conversation style on me?” um it's just one of a million ways people talk#NTs aren't doing small talk to spite you#they're not being indirect because they hate you#they're being indirect because some languages and cultures are more indirect#and so that's how they're taught to speak#“why won't they just tell me what they want directly?” maybe because they were taught that it places obligations#and they are trying to avoid that#you absolutely have a right to ask for the conversational accommodations that you need#but going into conversations assuming that they are not giving you something you haven't even asked for out of spite is not productive

A lot of roles are open to anyone 16 years old and up! The best way to find out if we are recruiting for a role you might be suited for is to check out the Volunteers Page.
If you have more specific questions about a volunteering role, you can always send a message through the Contact Form and select Volunteers and Recruiting from the "Who do you want to contact" drop down menu (they are at the very bottom)
There are other ways that you can help, even if you aren't volunteering! Boosting news posts and information about OTW events, elections, and donation drives is helping! Being supportive is helping! (All of the wonderful tags/notes/messages during the DDoS attack? that was helping too)

Someone's tiny child drew a Something and they put it in their box saying the kid drew it for me. Which is cute, I guess. My mom did stuff like this when I was a small child who was obsessed with the arrival of mail. It's in the route's case to be immortalized forever.
Now to figure out how to read the drawing so I can find what I assume is treasure beyond my wildest imagination.

people are for sure going to to say that Camille (wears high-waisted pants a lot, has a somewhat angular haircut, fails at her job, obnoxious but wounded, does PR, is white) is the Shiv parallel of the show, but I would argue that Victorine (desperate to prove her worth in a world that Does Not Care, thinks she's a lot better at being sneaky than she is, destroys her relationship with her partner while trying to validate her place in the family/company, APPEARS to have a special relationship with her father as a Daddy's Girl but is actually being manipulated and emotionally abused by him) is the much stronger Shiv parallel

can i make a confession that is so for real right now?
when i write maeveannie fic i am often conscious of the fact that i have a stronger, much more detailed vision of maeve's childhood & life history than of annie's. which is rarely DIRECTLY relevant to the fic and is a product of yknow, having written a different mega-project that involved, uh, writing a detailed version of her childhood and life history. but i'm conscious of it because i really like giving "equal" treatment to two characters in a ship if you will.. trying to balance how much detail, nuance, perspective they have. (Unless, of course, the fic is deliberately written from a singular POV leaving you to wonder about the other character - but i digress).
anyway. i typically justify this slight disparity to myself in a few ways: "people know i'm the maeve fic gal, they read my stuff mostly for her to get more focus than she does in the show", "annie has much more known about her childhood and general backstory than the majority of other characters do in canon, so I can just let people run with what they already know and not spend time fleshing it out", etc.
those reasons are true. but another reason? I find it hard to add much more detail to annie's upbringing in my head than what is established in canon (involvement in supe pageants, controlling/borderline abusive mom, heavy religious upbringing) is because... i don't know the detail and nuance of a christian upbringing.
like don't get me wrong. i have learned plenty through osmosis from the majority of US media. but not enough to feel very confident adding more nuance to the broad strokes established in canon. and i get paranoid that if i try it's gonna read just as cringey to christian people as half-assed depictions of judaism do to me lol
#catch me googling 'difference between priest and pastor'#and shit like that#just for offhanded mentions here and there#was almost gonna have annie's mom refernece the pope then i was like wait. they aren't catholic#at least. I am pretty sure they're not catholic#i know of several ways to tell that someone IS catholic but not surefire ways to tell they ARENT#but idk in the absence of those hallmarks and also just. the waspy vibe. i assume the januaries are protestant?#now what KIND of protestant? dont ask me that#thats where christianity really starts to lose me#like. i'm aware of the many different flavors and they have lots of small differences#but i dont think i'll ever be able to keep em straight#i waffle back and forth between feeling bad that i don't know more about christianity#and then feeling proud of it. feeling like i already know way too much about a religion i dont practice and 'didnt ask' about#fic stuff#d

i guess its like a friendship vs mutuals thing where i feel like. you kinda become more like "friends" if you know that even if you ended up in completely unrelated fandoms you wouldnt forget or unfollow each other. but also kinda having more private conversations/dms. i don't mind if other people would consider me their Friend even if we don't talk all that much ive just had so many people come and go especially in the osc 😭 or Another standard would be we're friends if we follow each other on multiple social media platforms. like @gingerkingfisher is my actual friend Theyre a real one and always have correct takes on ii-related stuff. what makes that different than being mutuals? idk
