A redo of my Edwards Exploit drawing from ages ago, now in traditional mixed media!

I felt like I didn't capture the mood I wanted last time when I looked it over again (to the horror of everyone who got to see this early. Thank you for gassing up the old one, and keeping me motivated through the making of this)

this version is much more directly studied off the Peter and Gunvor Edwards' illustration, because I've grown into the opinion that the model adaptation of exploit was really weak (technical limitations!!! what a shame) and i want to get back into studying these illustrations, there's a lot to pick apart in them.

Here's a bunch of perspective lines i drew over it when I was sketching. (I don't normally do that when I redraw, but that's usually because I'm drawing from model era screencaps and I can rely on those being proportional, most of the time) Edwards face breaks perspective here just a bit to add more drama to the scene, everything else is proportional.

some in-progress pictures, during which I absolutely HATED how it looked and wanted to switch to digital because I feared I'd messed it up irreconcilably 😭 good thing I was able to look at it with fresh eyes after staring at it for like four hours, the first session of drawing ended at 1am. Believe me, if you hate how your drawing is turning out, put it down and come back to it later!!

Edward is also more referenced off a real K2 here because I really like how they look. Unfortunately they have painful geometry.

something frustrating about my traditional drawings is how they can't be viewed from multiple angles online. I use silver gel pen to highlight some parts (here it's Edward's handrails and the damage) but it doesn't show up well when I photograph it head on. I hope this picture shows a little bit of how it shows up in real life!

Hi there! I apologize for taking up your time, I am just so curious: When you tackle a comic, what does the process behind it look like?

Asking because I found myself scrolling through your blog once again and couldn't help but marvel at all the beautiful effects you use, at how flawlessly the structure guides the viewer's eye across each page, how the graphic weight seems to always be in just the right places…, and wonder how you learned doing this. Everything you put out looks incredibly professional and I aspire to reach your level of skill 😌❤️

Thank you Finz!! You're no bother at all, I'm an open book. This is such high praise for a guy that really doesn't have a set process, I feel like a hack. Ha. Rest assured my style is still developing. Besides the referencing of the linework and composition of official comic books, (practicing by redrawing panels for fun), explaining the process makes me feel like a serial killer but I will do my best.

My comics usually stem from a single panel or concept — I like to focus on/emphasise particular panels of my pages, the heavy hitters, the main piece that catches your eye. I know I'm not a profoundly technically proficient artist so I prefer visually interesting elements and formatting, i.e. drawing characters outside their frames, negative space, notation, perspectives etc.

I like to establish 'main focus' panels, the bits of the comic that really, well. make people want to chew on it. This is where the technical effort is concentrated, really, and the rest of the comic is generally build around these concepts.

Textures and effects are done on individual panels first, then the entire page as a whole to even out the unity. Generally, blocking in shadows, hatching for visual interest + middle tones, then textures/half-tones, then highlights.

I'm not a writer per se, but having a vague 'script' in your pages helps with pacing and direction. Comics are a versatile story-telling medium. I only really do scripts for comics longer than 2 pages. An optional but recommended strat is to send your script to a friend for a second opinion.

With the script crudely slapped together, I rough out the thumbnails and composition with the text, prioritising coherence and clean integration of previously mentioned 'main focus' panels.

Settling on a composition sucks the hardest. Drawing is fun, thinking makes brain hurty. Variety is good! Close-ups, wide shots, visual metaphors. Every panel is its own artwork.

The text bubbles are usually added in post, yes, but I'm just one guy and I don't have a writer to call me a good boy for doing things correctly. Bite me.

In addition, keeping the text graphics in mind help create a sounder composition wherein even if the panels don't read cleanly left to right + top to bottom, the text can stagger and create the same reading order effect.

Panels and concepts are constantly tweaked, and my comic process is still highly experimental. A lot of industry standard comics aren't illustrated to their full potential due to deadlines and such — I strive for visual epiphany by treating each panel as its own artwork, and every page as a a bit of a mural.

Constantly experimenting allows you the insight of looking at your current art in comparison to your older works. In more recent works, I've been blocking in more shadows wiht lineart with thinner lines and more line weight, and learned to integrate the subject characters with less plain, abstract backgrounds.

1.) aug 28th, 2024 -- i started this around the time where i'd just gotten into something else and basically just detached myself from the dca... and therefore all my art with them got way more experimental and personal to me and my tastes bc i'd just stopped caring about them LOL

i do wish i'd finished this one though because i love how the body looks! i don't remember ever starting this with much of a plan though and i very visibly got bored once i drew all the fun parts (i hate drawing their legs)

2.) oct 1st, 2024 -- this could technically be considered vent artwork? i wanted to make something purposefully grotesque and unnerving because i was just really angry at the fandom all the time... and it doesnt help that whenever i get into something new i go through a weird breakup phase with my old interest (which might not make sense to some people lol) which causes some weird feelings.

a less angsty thing i can mention is that i was also very purposefully trying to be more relaxed about the way i paint things here! i usually strictly adhere to a set palette i make for myself, so this drawing was me pushing myself out of that comfort zone and forcing myself to freestyle the colors a bit... the result didnt really end up how i wanted it to be though (^^;; )

3.) oct 9th, 2024 -- iirc this was me elaborating on a physical sketch i made where i was playing around with their face... i actually still really, really like this style and this drawing might've been the best way i've ever done it. fluid and expressive but still grotesque enough for it to stay true to their original design! this is the thing i reference whenever i draw them this way (and if you look at my most recent post you might notice some similarities?)

4.) may 11th, 2024 -- MANN i wish i'd finished this one!!! it was a redraw of this drawing based off of "chimera" by deco*27!! i've always associated that song with the dca but i didn't give it justice the first time i drew it due to the time constraints so i wanted to do it better!!! but then i got stuck on the hands 😭

if i was ever going to pick one of these back up again there's a good chance it'd be this one

5.) jul 18th, 2024 -- nothing truly profound to say here as this was actually just a test... never got around to adding a body to it, mainly because i just like drawing their face more than i like drawing the rest of them. you can probably look at all of these and realize that for yourself though LMAO

I have another portrait with Imperial on my P4trе0n, similar to this one... but not this one. I planned that art as a redraw of my old work from 2022. I drew it three weeks ago, put it on P4trе0n, and all this time, I was thinking about how much I don't like it. I'm still so disgusted by that art that I'm not even going to post it anywhere publicly. Maybe I'm just being dramatic because, in fact, technically, the art is just okay. But if you look at it through my eyes, it's messed up. Maybe in a few months, I'll be more relaxed about that portrait and show it to you, but not now.

So, the day before yesterday, it FINALLY dawned on me why I hate that art so much. Because I tried so hard to imitate my skills from 2022 that it seems I even managed to enter my then mental state, and it turned out like hell. Yesterday, I sat down, thought about the work again, and realized: that art is simply not me anymore. It doesn't even feel like there's any obvious progress or noticeable difference from the 2022 art, except that it's darker.

Well, and when I just draw Imperial you can see above. I like it. I feel myself in it.

Damn, it looks like as if I'm doing a warm-up so that I can then invite you to subscribe to my P4trе0n to see THAT art, but I'm really just a whiner, and that's it xDD

Kirbtober 2024 Companion Pieces - Week Four

Day 21: Rival

Keen readers may have known that in the old bios of Meet the Cast, Bandana Dee and Robobot Armor consider each other friendly rivals. But their rivalry used to be a bit more hostile, which reeks its ugly head at some point in the war...

At least, they get along very well nowadays, and once Robobot Armor got their body back it was friendly rivalry to the max. They both DEFINITELY attempt to beat the crap out of each other in the name of training. I bet they tie a lot.

Day 22: Ship/Hangout

I probably have never mentioned this, but every Valentines Day, Ribbon discreetly sends Kirby Valentines Day's Chocolate, with the vice versa happening on White Day. But of course, the two didn't want anyone to know about this *ahem* chocolate exchange. So the result is... they both had to sneak to make a beeline to the post office to give/receive their gift. It's like a spy movie except it's mundane as hell. But hey... since everyone CAN see how hard they are crushing about each other... I don't think this is necessary...

...they still do it discreetly tho. NOOOOOOO.

Day 23: Wish

Ah, Marx.

Poor guy.

So, regarding the NME - they love targeting those who feel weak to join them in hopes of, well, making use of them. Noddies are certainly included (I follow game canon for these f^ckers) and Marx's family are... uh...

A powerhungry scientist who experimented himself with Scarfy blood and a rich woman who supplies Nightmare with her funds are certainly, uhm, a freaking problem. Marx was made into a guinea pig who knows nothing but whatever propaganda his family feeds him regarding Nightmare and how they want Marx to impress or even surpass him. This is what led to events of Milky Way Wishes.

Fortunately, Marx's in a better place now...

...alive, you idiots! I didn't kill him! He's now owner of a prank shop in Dreamland!

Day 24: Another Dimension

Halcandrans aren't necessary native from Halcandra. They are just named Halcandrans because... they all live there. Apparently they were scattered throughout Halcandra somewhen after the big war between them and the Jambastians.

By the way, did you know Magolor isn't fully evil in this AU initially - a series of misunderstandings and curses led to the tricky scenario that is Return to Dreamland, but that's a story for another day...

Day 25: Epilogue

A drawing based on this doodle page and this part of the story. Yes, this is kinda a redraw? Look, I had to whip this very quickly, I got tired...

But hey... they are happy... at least... reunited, but at what cost...?

Day 26: Moon

Kabuki ability, eh. We did give lore regarding this ability in two entries of last year's Kirbtober, but I suppose some additions are worth throwing in.

So, when I said it was the GSA dividing the power into scrolls... it was the Moon Warriors. Wait, so what are Star Warriors then? Well, in this AU Star Warriors are not magical or anything, in fact there are Sun and Moon Warriors, but perhaps that part of the GSA's a discussion for another day... so let's just know that the Moon Warriors are a different division from the Star Warriors.

I suppose it makes sense for the Kabuki ability to be associated with the moon outside this information in mind as well - Hypernova has the sun, Technician has the star (which makes it technically the leftover), so...

Day 27: Control

This is not a real in-universe PSA, but I'm very sure the team is tired as sh^t regarding brainwashing stuff, especially when some of their allies are PRIME brainwashing material (LOOKING AT YOU, DEDEDE). And within the team itself, 2 of them got possessed before and one got their body yoinked to do things they wouldn't do once. So uh. Safe to say they HATE this.

Personally, I see this as charming, so I don't plan to fix that by getting a second notebook for the even pages; but if people complain, I might get one.

Before you give me a request to draw, please know that there are some limitations:

2: I do everything on paper, so please don't ask for something that requires digital edits, like Jevil being in a realistic place or holding a funny baby emote etcetera.

1: Don't ask for something not involving Jevil; this is a Jevil daily blog; you can ask for different characters accompanying Jevil, but not a character without Jevil; also, see rule 4 for more details about asking for other characters.

3: Don't ask me to draw Jevil in specific colour schemes as I only work with six colour highlighters: pink, orange, yellow, green, cyan and purple; you can, however, ask me to use these colours in a way that I haven't used before.

4: Don't ask for other characters to be with Jevil too often; it might be difficult to interpret them to a polychromatic colour scheme, and, unless that character was originally colourful, they might look horrible with rainbow colours, like Spamton; please, don't ask for Spamton, I hate how he turned out (unless you have a better idea of how he should be coloured)!

I have a handful of characters that I am quite happy with the design and that I don't mind if you guys ask for them; these are: B.I., Seam, Pastel Jevil (he's technically a different character, but since he's a Jevil, you can ask just for him to be in a solo drawing) and Jack by @/clowny-rolls which will look very similar to Pastel Jevil.

6: This is not a "don't do this" rule, but I encourage you guys to send in a Joker card that you want me to redraw as Jevil; if it's coloured, it will be Neon Jevil and if it's black and white, it will be Pastel Jevil; it might take longer to draw it because I have to print it...

5: Don't ask for fully coloured in backgrounds; I have to manually colour that in and it will be annoying, it might not look that even, it will be a waste of ink and it won't fit with that vibe.

7: Don't treat this as an ask blog; you send in drawing requests, not questions to Jevil; if you want to ask him, though, you can go to my other account @/that-one-weird-kid-from-school; I want to start an ask blog of me and Jevil there, but I need to prepare something before I officially open it; but I don't mind asking a few questions early~

8: This is a weird one, but Jevil can't change his appearance too drastically. This Jevil's clothes are a part of his skin, but he can shapeshift his clothes to look like different ones, but he can't change them too much, he still needs to have something around his neck, a cape, his hat, etcetera; I have two examples of what I mean, this old one and this one that you've probably seen here. Basically, don't ask for specific articles of clothing, but you can ask for vibes; also, Jevil can't remove his hat, but he can make it look like hair.

OC-tober Day 4: Redesign

A continuation of yesterday's, let's talk about the Sages' many redesigns! But first: some redraws :3c

Full ramble under the cut. Read more at your own risk, it is long.

The Sages got their most recent redesigns in 2021. My main focus was making the Sages more unique in their looks, so it's not entirely just recolors of Sage. This is also when I made them all non-human. Lets go down the line.

Again, theyre supposed to all be vaguely matchy. They all have bangs on the same side, they've all got some extra color at the ends of their hair, and they all have details under their eyes (freckles for Red, eyebags for Grey, scars for Yellow, blush for Blue). Aside from that, I kinda went wild with these versions.

The primary Sage's (Red Yellow and Blue) are all supposed to look very similar to Sage. Grey is the black sheep of the group, that should be clear on first glance. Red, though, is supposed to look the Most like Sage, because they have the most in common. The two are from similar time periods and, with the addition of Red being a werewolf, similar situations of hiding themselves. Being a werewolf also draws more attention to Red's anger issues, her original defining trait. It's really easy to tell when she's angry. Because she turns into a big dog. Older Red design had a red scarf across her midsection like a belt, because that's where her killing wound was. When I moved her wound to her heart (because its more poetic <3), the scarf came with! Technically, that dangling section is supposed to always cover her left side. I don't do that tho. ALSO as you may have noticed: Red used to be continually covered in blood. Her new design is less murderous, so that got removed, but I kept a subtle reference to it in her hair. Like really subtle. Here's a close up.

Anne (Grey's past life) was only given a design in 2019, for the Labyrinth OCT, based off of Grey's old design. Then when I redesigned Grey, I actually based her more off of Anne. Real telephone game going on. Stuff like the wrist/ankle scars just came from Anne's design. For this version of her, I flattened out her hair near the top to better resemble Sage and the others' hairstyles. It also looks pretty :3 Her full lore about what she is is.... so complicated. It's not important. She's a special type of ghost that makes her grayscale ok. I only made her skin pale instead of pure grey because it helps her stand out from Anne. Anne for reference:

Yellow got the most emo hairstyle of them all, which I think is funny, because she's also the oldest and most well-adjusted. This is when I moved her eye injury to her right side, so I can cover it up and not draw it. I generally just had a lot of problems with Yellow's eyes. I hated drawing glasses realistically, it was the main thing that kept me from drawing Yellow more on previous designs, so I decided to go full cartoon this time. And man I love it. Yellow is an elf btw, specifically from a modern fantasy 1960s-ish. Her main design inspo has always been "librarian" and I love to lean into it, BUT. This design was where I started letting her be a badass too. Hence the mysterious scars. Plus her conspiratorial streak and her wedding ring? God I made her so cool. Best redesign of the set.

And finally, a robot!! Originally, Blue was my excuse for memes and references. They were a gamer. They were a 4th wall breaker. I changed that last one for this design, meta powers revoked. But I let them keep the gamer references by making them from the future. Blue used to be just Some Teen Ghost, which was boring and realistic. I wanted them to have a full job and backstory. So I made them a fnaf reference. To emphasize the roboticness, I started drawing their hair goofy and blocky. I also switched their method of death from hanging to gunshot, to match all the others. Plus, I don't think hanging a robot would work. This moved their wound to their head, but again, hey I don't wanna draw a fucked up eye wound all the time. Solution: robot-based memory problems! Blue already had a thing for ignoring negative emotions, so it only makes sense they'd block out their own death. Their eye's still not entirely functional, though.

Hey, they weren't in yesterday's post, but let's talk about Violet too! Violet has always been a thing with the Sages, and funny enough, their name was always Violet. What exactly they are, though, has changed so many times. With this redesign, I offically made them Blue's "alter ego" (it fit with the fnaf references). Think of it as Blue but with all of those nasty memories. That means you get to see the eye wound on this one! They're also missing their ear on that side. And a solid chunk of their head.

These are my oldest ocs and I care about them so much. I put so much thought into these. I'm happy I finally get to type this all out. Here's a direct comparison of their hair and skin colors, look at the detail i put into this.

Blue's is technically just desaturated cause that's what mixing blue with orange does.

Okay so I was going to pick another silly little image from my silly little 4.5 gb reaction image folder (mental illness <3) but I realized what I had to do

** = I feel like I should say I don't actually recommend these breakfast sandwiches bc they're much smaller than I made this one (done so to avoid redrawing the hands) & like $10 for 2 of them in this damn economy. I just like them bc they're bland, so they're easy to eat early in the morning, when I'm usually nauseous but know I need to eat or I'll end up cranky.

Okay boys I'll put a read more here uhhh tw for terminal illness, cancer, explicit medical/hospice talk, america's healthcare system being full of uncaring dipshits, etc of that nature; please don't read if anything like that would upset you

There's only one oncology office in town, and the only hospice they want to work with is my mom's, because she actually gives a shit about their patients and will go above and beyond to make sure they're taken care of. Whether that means answering the phone at 3AM, buying food/clothes/medicine/etc out of pocket with no expectation of reimbursement, long phone calls explaining hospice in a way that isn't confusing Or dehumanizing, my mom will do it.

(3 of my mom's bosses have actually come from their bigger cities and tried to swoop in and steal the oncology office as . god what do they call it . "an account", because don't you know the Numbers and Money are what matters most when it comes to hospice (slash sarcasm) 🙄. And they've blatantly showed up to the oncology office and been like "What would it take for you to work with someone besides Cheri?", and the employees at the oncology office were like "??? We only want to work with Cheri . If Cheri no longer worked for you, we would switch to whatever hospice she worked for instead." lmaooo)

Anyway . My mom has a "patient", who actually isn't a patient because he still wants to pursue treatment and you can't be on hospice and pursue cancer treatment. You have to choose one or the other. So basically, all of this is a favor for the oncologist, who asked her to look out for this patient and provide him with support/resources. My mom's job title is patient advocate, so she can't do anything from a medical standpoint, but she can do things like what I described above in explaining things or helping fill out forms seeking government assistance for people who usually can't see the paperwork/sign things well and would take at least 2x longer to fill these things out without her help.

He's a cranky old man with only one living relative who'll speak to him, and that relative lives out of state. He has stomach cancer, which is incredibly painful. He tried to hold out living alone as long as he could, but he eventually became too weak and has had to move into a group home. He, understandably, feels like this stripped him of his independence and dignity. He's doing chemo 5 days a week for 10 weeks right now, but the cancer is continuing to spread to other organs. He hates his roommate at the group home.

I'm not saying all of that to violate his privacy, but to humanize him. He's a person, not a statistic or a tally mark that goes towards my mom's paycheck. (Literally, he's not, but I mean this regarding all of the cancer patients she sees and how she treats them).

So, this Thursday, she went to get his prescriptions for him. This requires her driving 50 miles away from our house and then an extra 20 miles to the group home.

Only for the pharmacist to decide not to fill it because it's 10 mg oxycodone, and he already had 5 mg oxycodone picked up within the month.

This is frustrating and fucked up (he has STAGE 4 STOMACH CANCER) but technically on a legal level, yes, the pharmacist is the last person with a say in whether you get your prescription or not. (This is why laws passing allowing "religious freedom" in the US are so dangerous when it comes to access to abortion pills/plan B and HRT). Doctors can write you a prescription for X, but if the pharmacist doesn't think you should get X, you won't.

My mom tried to change the pharmacist's mind for a few minutes, but it was clear he wouldn't be swayed, so she called the doctor and suggested he write the prescription to be with morphine instead of oxycodone. She waited on the phone till the doctor confirmed that the prescription was sent and received by the pharmacy, and then went back inside to ask the pharmacist to fill that one.

He told her it wouldn't be ready until Saturday.

So she drove back to the group home and apologized to the patient for not having his updated prescription. Through labored breathing, he told her that if he just had to wait tomorrow and the next day, he'd be okay.

So . Today, my mom got up early on her day off to drive over an hour to back to the pharmacy. I offered to go with as her emotional support human, because she lives in chronic pain from an accident in 2020 (long story, I can make a separate post about it some other time if people want the erin lore) so driving for more than a half hour is very painful on her wrists and shoulder.

We got to the pharmacy, and my mom . comes out too quickly to have actually gotten the prescription. And I'm like 😃 uh oh!

Through tears, she explained that the pharmacy tech (who, by law, cannot get the narcotics out, they can only hand it to recipients; they need to go get the pharmacist to do it, and there were no pharmacists on the clock) told her that the morphine wasn't filled on Thursday, and wouldn't be ready until Monday. My mom said, "So the pharmacist just lied to me on Thursday when he said he was filling it? How can he do that? Do you guys not see what his diagnosis is under his medical history?" And the pharm tech shrugged, because of what I said about not having the clearance to help.

Reader, again I say that this is a man in his 80's with stage 4 stomach cancer that has most likely spread to his liver and other vital organs. That is pain that no living creature on earth should have to withstand! If we were talking about a dog, it would be seen as inhumane to withhold pain meds. But because of the opioid crisis (that the US fucking government started), a human is being treated like a "drug seeker" and refused his medication.

My mom was sitting there wiping her tears, I'm sure hearing the sound of this man's labored breathing 2 days prior replaying in her head, and lighting a cigarette, and I was struggling to think of something that could help her feel better. The only thing I could come up with was to suggest that she have the doctor switch the pharmacy from this (establishment) to one where we live, so at least if the pharmacists were going to be assholes, she didn't have to drive this far just to turn around and come back. She sniffed and said "That's a really good idea."

We went to the group home, and thankfully the patient said he had enough of the 5 mg oxy that he could double up on them to be 10 mg and still have enough through Monday. That was a really big relief.

I mentioned it in my other post by now, but my brother had our car scheduled for service this afternoon, and called chewing my mom out for being later than she said she'd be. My mom was too tired to really put up a fight but was being kinda rude back (warranted and valid, obviously). She said something about having trouble finding clean socks and wanting to dump out the 2 baskets in the laundry room in frustration, and he surprised us both by telling her not to do that because then I'd be the one cleaning it all up. She looked at me and went "Why is he defending you?" and I shrugged, and he said "Because I love my [sibling] 😤" Girl, that's news to anyone but you.

And then he said he was picking up Buttercup's pawprint today too. So it was just overall Not A Good Day. Started bad, ended bad. Something something birthday, something something curse.

JuAli WIP doodles

So, I'm just gonna post my old JuAli doodles from November ~ April. Obsessed with them. I've been thinking about them non-stop. Judar is wearing traditional Chinese hanfu in these :) 

Here's my JuAli doodles for now <3 They're pretty messy, so I'll put them under the cut. Also I'm putting my thought rambles under the cut too. They’re snippets of thoughts I had, including ones with friends, feel free to read them if you’re curious!

I was considering whether I should post my JuAli doodles since I usually prefer to keep my art account for finished arts only, but I wanted to show my love for them. I still have to refine and redraw these tbh, but I'm excited to work on these in the future! 

I also didn’t know whether to post these rambles under my art or make a new post on my side blog. Well. It’s going here now. I’ll post the rest of my sketches and another rambles in another post 

The first two Judar in hanfu doodles are some of my fave drawings ever. I really want to finish this one soon...

I think Judar has red eyeliner in the manga, and the Magi anime has Judar's eyeshadow as purple? In Ohtaka's coloured arts, it looks like a more saturated red colour to me.

I like Judar with red eyeliner/eyeshadow like how Ohtaka colours in the manga. I like how the colours pop and the contrast against his design, and how it matches his red eyes. Also cuz black and red are his image/representative colours to me anyways

I want Judar to wear black, white, red, and gold hanfu... I’ve also been looking into hanfu earrings for him. I'm thinking of red and gold. I want him to have red eyeliner and black painted fingernails.

Also, in the future, I'd also like to draw Alibaba wearing Arab traditional clothes~

Some thoughts on JuAli

I love how my friends described them as besties and one-sided enemies/worsties dynamic (from Judar’s end lmfao), it’s soooo funny. I feel like they’d have a sort of Love-Hate relationship at first, like when you hate someone so much it’s love...

And Judar would just constantly be like “I really don't get this guy at all” and “I don't understand what he's thinking at all!” Like how he was with Alibaba on the Dark continent. I think it’s interesting how he recognized that Alibaba has qualities that draw people to him, but just couldn't understand why.

My friend mentioned that because Alibaba is so different and the complete opposite of him, it makes sense he doesn’t understand it, but it only shows that he’s curious and that deep inside he wants to know.

I feel like in the early stages of them catching feelies they’d both be really awkward around each other and constantly headbutt each other… They'd always be pretty competitive with each other, but they'd warm up to each other over time.

I love their Fire and Ice duality. Light/Darkness. Angel/Devil. Hot and Cold. Enemies to Lovers. They’d bicker and kiss and make out. Twink on twink violence is their love language /lh

I love their setup, I’m obsessed with them and their vibes. They’re so funny and cute… I love their dynamic, their vibes are impeccable. I could sense the sen-core with them, I love them so much.

I awaken to my final form. Meow meow mf x Empathetic, loving ball of sunshine… It's the sen-core ship formula: meow meow mf x ball of sunshine. Morally questionable/morally bankrupt x morally agreeable <3

Also I love Light/Darkness, Yin/Yang and Sun/Moon/Eclipse themed ships. And Rivals/Enemies to Lovers. Opposites contrast :)

I love Opposites Attract ships that are also combined with any of these tropes: Narrative parallelism (Yin/Yang, Light/Darkness, Sun/Moon/Eclipse tropes), Protagonist x Rival/Antagonist/Opposing Figure, Reconciliation of Opposites, Fated Enemies/Rivals, etc.

Sen-core characters/ships: being a menace to A) the world and/or B) their rival/enemy/lover.

Alibaba is the sun, and Judar’s leitmotif is the black sun (just like Douman). And he’s also technically the moon. One of my friends told me she sees him with Eclipse symbolism, which is really interesting.

Hi, I saw that you were a geographer. I was wondering what that entails? Are you someone who works with GIS, do you teach...? I'm not super familiar with the field but it sounds super cool and want to know more. Sorry if that's too personal.

It’s fine! A lot of people don’t know there’s actually a lot of stuff you can do with it or if they take a class in high school they just learn capitols or something.

Most of my work currently includes GIS. I’m working in health/medical geography for my local health department currently, so I mostly track COVID-19 and other community diseases at this time, which includes making coverage maps for the city to show density of COVID-19 and hotspots so we can target certain areas for vaccinations or testings and to monitor high risk communities like schools and nursing homes and socially vulnerable areas. Then, I just help out wherever we need or do my own projects. I’m actually helping our field guys get upgraded into the digital world instead of paper lol. I have a lot of spare time right now though so I just usually practice language books, coding, or try to write since I automated a lot of my work and work from home.

My prior job was in gas utilities almost as soon as I graduated. I don’t know if you ever seen construction workers or inspectors carry around ipads while on your property but usually they’re looking at digital maps that’ll show where pipes and gaslines are on your property or surrounding area and the different information about the pipes like cast-iron vs plastic or the pressure of the gas going through. So, my job was to digitize the maps they drew in the field into a database for them to see in the future. However, I was working in Mississippi at the time because they were backed up about 10 years in data, and a lot of the time I had to read hand drawn maps all the way from the 1920’s-1940’s to redraw the districts and retire old piping so that was…painful lol but it was kind of neat to see all the old drawings from that long ago. Most of them were actually really good.

My first real job though was in college working at an insurance/infrastructure company that builds weather resistant housing and making maps and powerpoints for them to use at conferences about their services and to help write grants. And to determine damage to the areas where they had a lot of houses built up after hurricanes.

Edit: I also had a job for about 3 days with a national defense agency for the army to clean up maps and airplane zones. Absolutely hated it. Broke down, cried an hour, and quit LOL. The deadline system was very stressful and I worked remotely so internet issues and the system was gross.

Other than that, I made money tutoring and teaching my sophomore-junior year in college, and I helped teach at camps for elementary kids with Americorp. I was really popular with the little boys because I knew what fortnite was, became the favorite teacher in one day. 😂 They were really adorable.

I really enjoyed geography though and since it’s a STEM field it was mostly guys but the class itself was about 150 students in the first two years then 20 majors last two years so you get to really know everyone. The diversity level in my class was pretty decent too though, because I know in fields like that some people might worry about being the only girl or only minority etc. but I didn’t have any problems ☺️ The only thing I hated was when we went kayaking on a field trip and i didn’t know how to steer so i almost got hit by a small boat LOL but I had leaned all the way back so I didn’t get hit. So if I’m ever in a horror movie at least I can trust my reflexes.

I’m not a really woodsy type of girl though so I usually do GIS or satellite imagery, but there are a lot of different parts to geography if you do like talking to people or working outside.

Human, which is what I’d fall under because I do community things. So medical, cultural issues would be in this category.

Technical, which is GIS and working with satellite imagery, which you don’t have to be a geographer. You can actually get a certificate in this in 1-2 years. We actually learn a lot the first two years with public administration students and meteorologists so we had a few of those students also get a certificate in GIS. So if you want to be a meteorologists, it’d help to take some geography classes too because we share a lot of classes the first year or two. And we had several army students as well. You can also work in emergency agencies, like for 911 because the EMS uses a GIS system. I met a guy in Florida who does this as well as drone surveillance.

Physical, so this would be like the people that like to study mountains and plates or the terrain of specific regions.

Environmental, so your park rangers, biologists, etc. your Discovery Channel and Animal planet guys. National geographic type guys. Also, disaster management and FEMA type jobs.

I’ve had teachers that tracked diseases in south america, plotted coffee growing land in south america and travel on donkey over mountains and stuff like that to do it (this was one of my older teacher so this was decades ago), and I also had a teacher that worked with wineries and breweries about how and where to grow their products based on climate as well as did sports statistics for soccer teams for where to line up their players for their best shots. I think he said he did that for a German team. So, there is Sports Geography and agriculture to a degree if you like Sports.

You can become an urban planner, which are the people that help build and plot out areas for construction for the government, which I think is what I want to do but I don’t really want to go back to school to master in it. 😭 or you can become a travel guide or teacher. I’m thinking of being a teacher so I can get summers off to travel.

But I think geography can be applied to a lot of things since humans are always interacting with each other and the earth so even just knowing the basics can probably help answer the why in a lot of things. So the job is really really flexible but a downside is that a lot of government jobs run on contracts and grants so you might end up bouncing from job to job every few years if your contract runs out unless you work for a utilities or construction company but working for a utility company means you’ll be doing the same task everyday which is looking at the drawing the inspectors do in the field then putting them in the digital system, but I usually have no problem finding another job to go to as a lot of contract agencies will message you first especially on linkedin. However, the agencies also get a portion of your paycheck. So like if you get an offer for $23, the agency will take $5, so you’ll end up making $18 an hour. And there are some specialties that are hard to get into so I won’t say it’s easy to find exactly what you want but it does give you a lot of options if you get creative with your skillset. Overall though, I think a class in human geography helps a lot with critical thinking skills since where I live most people have to take extra science classes anyway.

If you go to ESRI website, they have a few free classes, seminars, and data you can play with if anyone is ever interested.

Sure!-- and thank you! I have a couple general tips, but let me preface them by saying I am NOT an artist by trade. This is my hobby and I have no technical training. These are just suggestions and not rules by any means; if they’re not right for you or your project, that’s okay!

Here are my five main tips:

1. Know your goals

2. Keep it simple

3. Have a script

4. Finished is better than perfect

5. Have a backlog

Wall of text below the cut to elaborate..... You have been warned.

1. Know your goals. It’s okay to have no goal except to have fun! But if you do want something specific-- like to tell a certain story, or be finished within two years, or have it printed and made into physical copies-- you need to acknowledge your goals as early on in the process as you can and think about how you’ll achieve it before you start any heavy lifting. 

2. Keep it simple. Because comics can take a while to complete it’s important to keep things simple. This goes not just for the style you use, but the story you use too.  My experience is that even simple stories can take many pages to tell coherently in comic form. 

Keeping character designs simple helps too. You’ll have to redraw your characters over and over. A design that doesn’t seem complex when drawn once may become extremely taxing when drawn twelve times per page from many angles. There’s a place for ornate designs, of course! But finding ways to make characters simple to draw AND distinct will save you some time and wrist pain. 

3. Have a script. You don’t have to marry yourself to your script, but it is much easier to keep your momentum if you know what happens next in the story. This is more important for longer comics than for short ones; you want to avoid running into the end of your script while working if possible. 

4. Finished is better than perfect. You will never make the perfect story. Nobody will. It’s natural and normal for artists and authors to love what they make and then hate it so much they can barely look at it. But with comics it’s very important to resist the temptation to go back and fix old pages unless it’s truly necessary. If you spend time trying to patch your old pages you might burn out before you finish your comic. Most readers will be happier knowing how the story ends than seeing updated versions of pages they’ve already read! 

5. Have a backlog of pages. Life happens. Sometimes we lose momentum, get busy, or experience declines in health that may make comic-making impossible. I really, really advocate for building a backlog of pages in anticipation of weeks or months where you just cannot work on a comic. You may never need to use your backlog, but if you do it can take a lot of pressure off.

Hhnnnrgh get ready for old art in this post because I’m not redrawing all this shit right now.

The official name for it is High School Dance Club AU, or HSDC. So basically, pretty much all of this takes place in the same high school, where the Nohr and Hoshido families both attended. The Nohrian family make up the foundation for the school’s Classical Dance Club, while the Hoshidans make up the foundation for the Modern Dance Club. They, but mostly the club presidents Xander and Ryoma, disagree on dance styles.

Xander doesn’t recognize modern dance as an art form, and thinks only classic styles like waltzing are worth anything. Ryoma thinks Xander has a big stick up his ass and he needs to lighten up, and that modern dance is a valid art form and in fact is harder because it usually involving singing AND dancing. The club rivalry is pretty intense and neither side will get over themselves about it.

(Undercut cause this is gonna get long):

(I’ll just talk about Nohr mostly since they’re the only sketches I have right now)

Xander is the president of the Classical Dance club, and a senior. He started the club, and he’s the eldest of the four Nohrian siblings. He’s mostly the one keeping the rivalry with Ryoma going, ever since his father Garon made an offhanded comment about Sumeragi being “uncivilized” (he’s not, he’s just a better father than Garon is), and since Garon keeps pushing the pressure of continuing the family company unto Xander, he’s just mimicking his father’s viewpoints. That’s also he wears a full suit everyday, despite having no real reason for it. He does care a lot about his siblings, but he’s kinda just....awkward. He’s like an early millennial, but he has no social media presence (though he frequently shows up in the background of his sibling’s social media), and therefore doesn’t understand memes.

Camilla is the second eldest and also a senior. She wears leather jackets and rides a motorcycle despite Xander’s protests. Since Garon isn’t a very good dad and is hardly home, she’s taken up role as the defacto mother of her siblings. She’s closer with Leo and Elise because of it, and also because she actually has social media so she actually understands memes. She’s Vice President of the dance club, and maintains the rivalry for appearances but she and the two younger siblings don’t really care too much. She does parcipate in practice though, and she’s probably second best behind Xander in the club. 

Leo is the secretary/treasurer (damn if I remember what positions you need in a high school club) of the dance club, third in the family and is a sophomore. He doesn’t actually dance in the club, but he’s still involved with all the paperwork, the club’s funds, scheduling practices, so on. He’s mostly just in the corner of the club room doing “work” on his iPad. He’s an excellent student and tries to follow in Xander’s footsteps despite the two being kinda awkward around each other. Really he just watches anime on his tablet all practice. He’s like a closet anime fan, only his squad Odin and Niles know, along with Elise, since she likes anime too. Hes kinda that line between millennial and gen-z, and though he doesn’t seem like it he’s fresh with the memes.

Elise is the youngest and a freshman. She also dances in the club but is probably the least serious about the whole club rivalry, since she thinks it’s silly. She understands why Xander is doing it though and won’t argue with him. She gets along the best with Leo, but they also have the most sibling rivalry and will occasionally be found T posing at each other from across the hallways of their house. She’s gen-z and is very into the memes, she likes anime too and argues with Leo for hours about who’s the best ninja in Naruto and why magical girls can transform without getting interrupted. 

So where’s Corrin and Azura fit in?

So there’s Corrin and Kamui, they’re twins. They transferred over from a serperate high school and are both in junior year. The backstory on them is due to circumstances unknown to them, they were taken from their birth parents. At some point they were adopted, and they grew up together under the care of their legal guardian, Jakob. When they started high school, they made fast friends with Azura who was another kid that was adopted. Both twins like to sing and dance, and they wanted to join both clubs but were barred from one or the other because of, you know. Well they decided that was bullshit and with Azura, came up with a plan: get the clubs to reconnect, so that at the end of the year, they could win the regional high school performance arts competition. 

Every year in the region, the high schools compete in performance arts competition. Technically the Nohrians and Hoshidans can enter as she-erase groups despite being from the same school, but they’ve always lost. Now it’s the last year for both Xander and Ryoma, and Azura has a plan to get them to make up and work together to win. She’s watched they fight for three years and despite being close friends with both families, she’s never been able to get them to see eye to eye. So with the twins working with her, the following plan is enacted:

Corrin, the sister, joins th Classical Dance club, and becomes close friends with the Nohrian family. Kamui, the brother, joins the Modern Dance club and does the same. By working as double agents, they plan to slowly convince the two families to forget their rivalry and work together, as well as plan a joint performance for the end of the year competition so that they could finally win the completion as friends instead of losing as enemies. If this is starting to sound like a cheesy high school musical teen type movie then GOOD because that’s EXACTLY WHAT IS IT.

That’s the gist of the plot but here’s some other characters I had ideas for:

Odin, Selena and Laslow are transfer students similar to the Corrin twins. They all in the Classical Dance club. They’re all juniors but have been going to that school since sophomore year.

Odin’s name is really Owain, but when he transferred he told everyone his name was Odin. Why?? Because it....sounded cooler. He’s pretty openly in anime, he’s the kid that Naruto runs down the hallway in high school and constantly talks about his “dark power”, you know the one. He became friends with Leo when he caught him watching anime during practice. Together with Niles they’re all close group of friends.

Niles is that kid that just, never showed up to class. He’d only show up for important tests but otherwise ditched the second he had the chance. Despite that he does pretty well in class. Not a second passes when he’s not saying something nasty. Leo stuck up for him once when he was getting picked on by some dickheads, and though he could take the verbal abuse the act stuck with him and he’s been close friends with Leo ever since. He has kinda a rough home life, so he’s usually at Leo or Odin’s house. Luckily Garon is not really home to complain and Odin’s mom is nice and let’s him stay over often. He refuses to wear any shirt that doesn’t show off his cleavage.

Selena also uses a modified name, but it’s more for paranoia that somebody might recognize her if she uses her real name. Her mom is kinda famous and she hates being compared to her, so at the chance to be just “Selena” and not “Cordelia’s daughter” she took it. She’s got a mean streak which tends to ward people off but she’s very close with Odin and Laslow, since they were friends in their old school. She plays water polo and hitches a ride with Laslow and Odin after practice, since Laslow is the only one of their group that has a car and a drivers license. She also hangs out with Camillla and Beruka, who rides a motorcycle like Camilla, a lot.

Laslow’s name is actually Inigo, but for similar reasons to Selena, he goes by Laslow since he doesn’t want to be recognized as his mother’s son. It’s more from embarrassment, because his mom is an exotic dancer. He isn’t ashamed of it, but he’s afraid of what other people might say and just tries to keep it a secret. Because of his mom though, he’s very good at dancing, and joined the Classical Dance club when Xander caught him dancing after school while waiting for Selena to finish water polo practice. He has horrible stage fright but Xander sees potential in him, so he’s working on being able to dance in front of other people. Xander asks that Laslow teach him his unique style, and Laslow reluctantly agrees. It’s how they became close.

I have some other notes that aren’t as detailed about characters. Peri is a scene kid, Keaton is the furry kid you also see in high school that wear a hate with wolf ears on it and a clip on wolf tail. Effie and Arthur are both on the football team, Effie is the star player and Arthur is....usually the distraction. You’ll be pleased to know I didn’t actually finish Fates so I only know so much about some characters, but yeah.

I’ll try to make some comics about the Hoshidans so I can talk about them too, but for now this is what I got.

Ranking my WIPs by how likely I am to actually finish them:

-just started this, pretty simple drawing

-the fact that there are only three characters gives it a pretty significant advantage in terms of finishing it, but the strange foot angles do put it at a disadvantage for getting finished

-the less fan content there is for a fandom, the more my stubbornness makes me want to create content. This fandom is pretty small, so looking positive in terms of finishing
