Bookshelf Tours All for the Game

I had to rearrange my shelves recently - my CD collection was lined up on top of my laundry bin, but it just got too big, and needed a full shelf. It was the perfect opportunity to make an "All for the Game" shelf, and finally have them all lined up together!

1. This is the Italian version, and it's a gorgeous hardback omnibus edition! It's the only hardback edition I've found (so far - I can't wait for the Rainbow Crate editions!) and it's also the only omnibus edition I've seen.

2. These are the French editions. The covers are really cool, and the titles translate to "Well Hidden Secrets", "Never Give Up", and "A Reason to Live". Honestly, I love that. Such cool titles!

3. The "Pipe Dream" fanzine by @llstarcasterll is so, so cool! It's full of the most gorgeous artwork, so is totally worth buying if you can get your hands on it. If I was flush with cash, I'd buy like, six of them, so I could pull them apart and put the pictures on my wall, in my diary, in my scrapbook.

4. The Spanish covers use the same artwork as the French ones, so I probably didn't need both, but I'm obsessive. These ones have the advantage of having really awesome chapter heading art.

5. These are the Russian editions. The artwork is, I believe, by @kiiakostet. This is some of my absolute favourite AFTG artwork, and I wish they were available as dustjackets for the English editions.

6. And speaking of dustjackets: These replacement jackets are by @llstarcasterll. They're beautiful, and I love how the spines look! I'm really looking forward to getting the "Raven Cycle" and "The Sunshine Court" jackets by the same artist. No idea where they'll go, though, the shelf is full!

7. And these are the @ouijacine jackets! I also have the prints of the artwork framed on my "All for the Game" art wall, so with this book facing outwards, it just looks like I'm super obsessed with this particular artwork. Oh wait. I am.

8. The originals. The ugly, terribly designed English language originals. I love them so much. These copies are messy and well-thumbed, and stuffed to bursting with colour co-ordinated page tabs. They are more annotation than book, at this point.

9. Ok. Technically, this isn't AFTG. But these copies of "The Raven Cycle" get a space on the shelf because the jackets are also designed by @ouijacine. Also, it makes the book stack sit at the exact perfect height.

10a. Special mention for the shelves above and below. The shelf above is my "Leigh Bardugo" collection, including some collector's editions, those gorgeous Illumicrate editions of the Nikolai duology, several beautiful copies of the Alex Stern books, and "The Familiar", which I still haven't read.

10b. The shelf below is the reason for the rearrange. I needed a long shelf, and a ridiculously tall one. These are my BTS albums. Yeah, I'm that person now. I actually still have a fair few to get, so there's a chance I'm going to overfill this shelf too. You can just see a couple of my boys peeping out over the top of the CDs, in flip photo form. I want to get one for each of the members, but weverse shipping is fucking extortionate.

At the moment, these all fit perfectly on this shelf, but with the many editions of the TSC duology I'm going to be buying, and the Rainbow Crate hardback editions? Yeah, I'm gonna need a bigger shelf.

My question is kind of circling back to your comment about the use of Go-Pro's going forward when it comes to BTS content. It's such an easy way to add a very personal and up close pov to the scenes. YET, I feel like the scaled down crew of AYS and the use of Go-Pro's and especially the lack of attention to the audio has led to some pretty egregious technical setbacks. From choppy audio to a lack of proper coverage in certain scenes. This leads to an edit that has to cover a lot of potholes, so to speak. Do you think this is purely due to the intimate nature of AYS (less crew means more comfort for jikook, easier travel in between locations) or something else? Where's that Disney money 😩😩😩?

Hi Sol, I'm loving our exchanges, so thank you for keeping it going and sending me such an interesting prompt! I definitely had to think about this one a little bit to find how to encapsulate my thoughts.

The short answer is, I think this all just speaks to how the BTS production team is approaching experimental content and the financing required for such projects. Some comparables would be Suchwita and Jin's Alcohol Journey.

Let's start with Jin's show first.

(For anyone that hasn't watched it, I highly recommend. I don't drink but I still found it fascinating.) This is a 4 part episodic show that followed Jin as he learned about and made his own batch of a traditional drink. This show was a collaboration with Chef Baek Jong-won.

Personally, I feel this show was a success. Definitely leaned into more traditional filmmaking and storytelling (appropriately given the subject matter) and was a little more heavy-handed with the promo of Jin's solo music. In my opinion, this will lean the content to feeling more dated than it truly is but that may give us a hint as to how it was funded. There weren't any blatant sponsorships aside from the partnership with Chef Baek so it could have been reconciled as part of the promotions for The Astronaut. Wooteo is pretty prevalent in the show and it aired in the midst of the promo content.

I don't remember when the deal with Disney started to become known but I don't recall anyone in my circles angry that it wasn't getting the Disney release. (Could have been happening but I really limit where I spend my time engaging in social media so maybe that's on me for not being aware. Does anyone here remember if this was an issue?)

Now, let's move on to Suchwita.

If you watch the first episode, it's on a different set and aired about a month before ep 2. When ep 3 airs, they first make it very clear that the show 'survived'. This is what leads me to believe that episode 1 was filmed on speculation. They could use that as a proof-of-concept to shop the show around to brands to secure more long-term funding. Suchwita's main focus as a show in the current events space is very focused on the guest's current projects and promotions.

Getting back to AYS,

We're far enough into the show that I believe we can rule out album promotions as being a financial driver. Not only because most of the member's songs that even make an appearance in the show were long-ago released but the manner in which they were incorporated is indicative as well. They're really only mentioned in the context of bringing us into the member's lives and sharing in the joy they have for eachother's work. (Also hopefully satisfying those fans that only ask the members to mention other member's songs when one of them would livestream...but that's a subject for another day.)

I think there's a strong possibility that the US eps were filmed on speculation as well. That there was no guarantee of a Disney release at the time. Just like the other shows, they knew they knew they could release on their own if Disney decided to pass so the footage definitely wouldn't be wasted. But I believe that's why the scope of the show seems vaguely undefined during eps 1&2.

Everything else that we've been discussing regarding production honestly seems within the typical scope of BTS's content under similar circumstances. Yes, there is plenty of room for improvement, but it's far from the worst show BTS has ever produced. I think one of the points that makes ppl think it's worse than it is is the management of expectations. I mentioned this in my review of Jimin's Production Diary but if we approach that show expecting that we're going to get detailed breakdown of all of the steps to create an album, we'll be very disappointed. Likewise, AYS is not a detailed vlog of how our members spent their time in these mini vacations.

One last thought,

BTS is not really given the space to experiment and explore. True experimentation requires space for failure, realignment, and growth. And that's just not something BTS has been granted the luxury of. There is such EXPECTATION with everything they release. Everything HAS to be success. That's one of the reasons I was so thrilled to hear RM had performed an unreleased song at the D-DAY concert. Crowdworking new material at concerts was a staple of tourning bands in the west and it helps bands get such critical live feedback DURING the creative process. Now, I don't think that was necessarily the goal with RMs performance but it's so lovely to see him able to even take a step in that direction. Such a thing woukd have been completely unheard of years prior. Fans (likely still) would have been clamoring about being led astray if the song changed drastically after that performance.

Anyway, I could very easily be completely wrong about all of this so let's all take it with a huge grain of salt.

VIBE is very much giving me 80s groove mixes, stripped back. Only thing missing is a Kenny G saxophone solo.

My favourite parts/timestamps:

1:55 - I love how they stripped back the instrumentals in Jimin's chorus so we really **hear** him. God, his voice. It's almost acapella and I'm glad Teddy had the sense to not bury that magic under useless synths.

2:17 - What is it with Jimin and bridges? He understands the assignment. Every single time.

Because I was aware of my bias going into it, I gave this song a few more listens than I typically do before forming an opinion. And like I suspected, the only reason I like this song is because of Jimin.

Taeyang gave me nothing to work with I'm sorry. The D'Angelo aesthetic failed to land, the only person who brought sauce to this joint is Park Jimin. I think even Taeyang, Teddy and co recognize that too, because though it's Taeyang's song and technically a feature, it feels like Jimin's song with Taeyang featuring. (The lines split is also smart from a business POV because it will get ARMYs and Jimin solo stans to buy/stream it more). Jimin has writing credits [*] so I can only assume he wrote his verses because the difference between his verse and Taeyang's is like night and day, and in Jimin's verse, the lack of gendered pronouns is something I can't help but notice.

In terms of jikook/ML collabs so far, I actually prefer this to Left & Right and Dreamers, but I like Bad Decisions more. So I'm giving this song a solid 6.8/10. It's a decent track and the hook is fun to sing. And thankfully, the song is short enough.

Frankly, if this single was supposed to whet people's appetites for Taeyang's album, it does the opposite for me, but it does do that for me with Jimin with PJM1. I **need** to hear more Jimin.

About taehyung I'd say i have come to be indifferent or irritated with the guy's behaviour over the year. It has nothing to do with shipping n all cause i have never believed any pairing in BTS is dating eachother so there's no reason for me to dislike/hate him over such things and I'd hate myself if i do that lol...

It came in the form of disappointment because before FACE release i was very sure tae nd hobi would support him physically you know like be on his set or music show or something like that. Hobi proved me right but Tae.....like okay u didn't go for any of his sets or anything physically but not even a simple acknowledgment towards the supposed Soulmate's first ever album?? Mind u Tae posted for every single member except jm last yr. he posted story for every member's album after their album release expect jm. one can understand if he was Missing 2-3 members but only one. and same like last year even this yr he posted for hobi's album, posted for RM's album, posted less than a week ago for his frnd's songs but didn't post anything for jm even when he came to post other pics last Sunday. again jm being the exception to that like 2023.

Last yr when he used to go live for 3 min only to mention jk for 4-5 times without even asking his own fans what are they doing, how's it going U wonder.... Wasn't a one time thing the whole 2023 went like that u can ask anyone. There was even a running joke started in army Fandom "Anyone: so u- Tae: Jungkook" like that. Everyone knew how much he used to bring up jk for anything literally anything at all. Who even goes live play one song say that jk sings it for u then stop the live right there? who goes live just to tell that he didn't see jk's live last day after movie premiere cause he passed out? who goes live to tell he called jk? literally in most of his lives he ended those live without 3-4-5 min after only talking about jk. Even his own fans were saying it's started getting embarassing how much he mentions jk while jk doens't brother. Yes jk has mentioned tae last year in his lives multiple times too but jk has never mentioned anything private like how tae does.

There was this time when jk was posting his recipes on weverse nd correcting some information about it in the morning, then jm comments on it saying why is he not sleeping cause jk was live before that reposting too. means jk was live at last night. Then jm also asked jk to cook for him that recipe or smtg to which jk replied. Then comes Tae who comments under jk's comment of recipe saying "I also slept well 😉" when it was jm who talked about sleeping nd not jm so technically the comment of tae should be under jm's comment but it was under jm's. which then made tkkrs and whole Fandom believe TK had sleepover even tho jk was live at late night for hrs. There's too many incidences like that.

Point is tae does and says things that leaves more room for speculations nd then comes jk to tell the story as what has happened. I know tae is like that but that behaviour itself is weird TO ME. I'd say the exact same thing if i had seen jm going live to talk about jk for 3 min nd then dip. It simply doens't looks normal TO ME so i wouldn't think any different for tae. I won't speculate as to why he does what he does but only thing is his Actions are weird to me.

That time he posted story from a tkkr acct which was basically a jm anti which gave that acct more exposure. the acct had 2k before him posting then gained over 40-45k within 24 hrs despite their pinned posts being jm anti and talking about TK kissing. Now i don't say he did it on purpose cause i know he wouldn't but I'd prefer if he's mindful of his actions. Another time he said "N" word while singing on live which cause many black armys side eye him, then months later he went on live to put on durag which again caused discomfort for some Black armys. Then the recent MacD post which again caused distress in big numbers in army side. again point is he's too ignorant of his actions. and i do not like ppl that are ignorant and irresponsible nd his actions for the past yr has made him look like one to me.

I loved vmin too much but the disappointment caused by him to me cause i was stupid enough to hope had really made me not to think of vmin or him the same as before. i cannot for the life of me look at him or vmin same as before. i don't enjoy seeing vmin together now. of course they're still good frnds there's no debate about it but one thing that's clear is they're not the vmin they used to before. it stopped somewhere around 2019. i don't like how ppl still call them soulmates LOL.

But i have seen everything in 2023 nd how members like tae made time for his frnds despite their TIGHT schedules yet couldn't be botehred for Someone like jm. i remember yrs ago tae saying that he is always on the receiving end of jm's love nd support and it felt like still the same. i believe jm wouldn't have been on that fanmeet of tae's had jm not showed up for tae in tae's music show. I remember tae taking hrs early flight than other members so that he could be present at his newly frnd's movie premiere in sk. i remember how tae showed up for one of his wooga member's fanmeet, then went on stationhead party nd then went to music show all 3 events on the same day when he was promoting his album but couldn't bother to be there for jm during one of his music shows our of 3 when tae was literally on break? i didn't like this same thing about jk too.

I would never expect members to do all these things for jm IF jm wasn't doing all of this for them. jm himself is inactive nd yet the whole Fandom knew that the one of the only time he'd come Online is to post for members. his whole ig page speaks for itself. Jm not only posted for online but he made sure to be with every single member when they were releasing their music last year. I'd never expected yoongi to show up for jm but surprisingly he did. i knew yg was busy hence i didn't expect that. I'd never expect something like online posting from some like yg cause he doens't post everyone knows.

so yes my personal indifference nd irritation towards Tae has came from his actions towards jm. Ppl will say that u don't have to post online to show ur support nd someone like me who doens't post anything online knows what that means better than anyone but when Ure chronically online nd deep in Fandom shenanigans I'd expect that from u. Hi, I appreciate you stopping by. I will say, you wrote quite a lot that I genuinely do not have it in me to read, but I’ll still answer because I did read majority of it.

Basically, I think it’s fine to dislike Tae and not agree with his actions. It’s unrealistic to believe every member will be adored by every fan, and that goes for any group out there. I am also glad you brought up his recent behavior outside of Tkk vs Jkk drama, because those reasons are what has pushed him out of grace for me. I don’t hate him by far, but he is the one member I now side eye. Especially because people have talked about members of Wooga squad being questionable, and I’ve never cared for Jennie. Blackpink were too ignorant for me to get into, and they debuted way too late in the game and too old (meaning they were old enough to know better) for me to care about them “learning to do better.”

So it’s not surprising to me Tae likely isn’t the kindest of people I expected him to be. I’m not delusional enough to believe these men aren’t people and won’t make mistakes, but I definitely thought they’d grown over the years and learned to do better. Regarding Zionism and the boycotts, I am being a little lenient since they’re in the military and maybe can’t say much, but Tae didn’t have to post an old pic of McDonald’s. He is too old and too online to have not known. He doesn’t care. Same way he doesn’t care about saying nigga or appropriation.

It’s the little things that show a persons true colors, but even with that, I can’t pretend I agree with the idea that he’s intentionally stoking Tkk flames or is no longer friends with Jimin. Mainly because I think bigotry is different from friendship issues. JM and Tae might be going through a distant stage, but we don’t know that for sure. We don’t know what is going on with them at all, so I don’t agree with people pretending as if we do. Because while I wouldn’t call him those things myself, (I’d say he’s stupid, not malicious) I wouldn’t stop someone from doing so. Because silence, imo, is better than telling the world you don’t care. At least by staying silent you can at some point lie about caring. Tae didn’t choose silence. He chose to bring attention to the fact that he’s unwilling to fake allegiance with Palestine, he chose to rap a slur in the mouths of non-Black people, and he chose to wear a durag. All things that don’t require digging any deeper. Whatever is going on with him posting JK and not JM is muddy waters we’ll most likely never be able to see through.

You're kinda right. I'm not a jk biased but i do think there's a difference in his skills vs other vl when it comes to singing Acapella. I'm a jm biased more like just jm fan, I don't bother too much with other members other than him if I'm being honest here. Jm's voice, live singing i think was great like i prefered his voice nd singing than anyone else in BTS's vl from their early years but recently more like for few yrs his singing doens't give me that which it used to give me back and it's about like Acapella only cause he sounds of course great in albums, solo songs etc. But i don't think he sounds that good live singing now comapred to in the past. I do believe jk is kinda ahead of other 3 vl members Cause he's got that skills and voice. Jm's voice recently sounds like he has strained his voice maybe because of all those yrs of him hitting high notes, you know them making him sing way beyond his range so it might have damaged his voice. The breathing was too obvious. But recently he's doing good since he's taking the vocal lessons ig. I really hope he's taking it from outside of hybe, who actually knows what he needs to work on.

But apart from that i think everything else they go wayy good than other groups, but i do think some of other vocalist of some of other groups can do better.

I think with Jimin, the way he sings now is different. Like, before he used less falsetto - his voice sounded grittier and deeper - and he didn't add all of those vocal cries and use vocal fry. These are stylistic choices that honestly make his voice perfect for records - especially when it's smoothed out in the studio - but kind of weird on its own, because it doesn't sound "normal". It's like seeing someone wear an outlandish runway outfit irl - it might look fashionable and artsy in the runway, but weird and ugly in the streets. Jimin's voice works best with a instrumental backing him up. He also lacks confidence acapella or on his own without a loud instrumental. Beyond that, I think Jimin, from a technical pov that I won't pretend to know much about, has a few weak spots. Like, he always sounds a bit off when he's humming, but it may be that his singing style just makes it sound different. I also think the members have always relied on Jungkook for technically challenging parts, or for stuff like adlibs, runs, harmonies, so they aren't as practiced.

A lot of groups have one or two good vocalists and a lot of so so vocalists who are definitely worse than V or Jin - who aren't so-so vocalists imo. The thing is that Hybe doesn't often know how to play to their strengths and can even make them sound worse in the studio than live (I'm thinking of Jungkook's For Youth bridge, for one). Imo other labels give weak vocalists easier notes and know how to mix their vocals better. It's like Hybe doesn't know how to. They blend Jungkook's voice with V's a lot in harder parts - to the point where you hear Jungkook more than V (YTC and Run BTS pre-chorus, Bad Decisions, etc.) - but they insist on giving the members really high songs they struggle with. BTS vocal line isn't the strongest ever, but if we're talking about active groups, I think it has to be in the top 10. Most vocals lines have more members so they have more than one good vocalist and more than one weak one. BTS vocal line is only 4 members, which people forget when comparing it to vocal lines double that. People also tend to only focus on the best singers in a vocal line, but with BTS they don't. Like, Seventeen has how many members in their vocal line? Plus, the dance line members sing more than rap. Only 4 of them are genuinely good - DK, Seungkwan, Woozi and Hoshi imo - and the other members are mediocre or weak, and don't even have unique tones. Yet they're considered a great vocal line. In numbers they have more great vocalists than BTS, but BTS have way less members who sing. Their roles are clearly defined - 3 rappers and 4 singers.

Anyway, I think the way vocal lines are compared is flawed. But I also acknowledge BTS's vocal line limitations.

BoXiao : Endorsement CPNs

Just listing a few of my favorites, where we clowned so hard with what appears to be bxg biased signs from brands. Mostly 2020-2021. This was supposed to be a simple post but it got a little bit out of hand. So. Here you go. Enjoy!

Note: If you don’t like CPN posts, just scroll along. If you don’t like BJYX — this is not for you. don’t hurt yourself and skip this post.

1. RoseOnly - I will not add the RoseOnly x Peace Elite collaboration here anymore cause most of the people reading this should be familiar. A little bit of my thoughts on that are here.

Now let’s move on to other clownery, cause when I said we did see some 👀 before, I meant it.

• GG’s campaign with them where he showcased a bunny with rainbow colored flowers. They could be showcasing all the kind of flowers they have or LGBT friendly advertising. After all, All love is love. 🌈

• For Roseonly’s 8th anniversary, GG had a campaign and VCR w/ them and that big 8 flower. 8 means bo. It’s truly used for the anniversary but of course we CPN cause we are clowns.

• During Web’s promo for rules of my world and when his teaser photos came out— RoseOnly released a photo of a black rose ( same color as Web’s clothes in the teaser ) with the caption:

You’re the coolest guy in my heart.

• When they were doing a teaser for their new endorser, some people were pointing out that the silhouette looks like Bobo. lol. Twins!

• All the references to the Lonely Planet and Little Prince for this promotion. We all know that they both love LP and whether this is CPN or a personal preference— we’re claiming it!

• The green rose they once advertised with the caption I ONLY LOVE YOU. and with the green rose symbolizing innocence, simplicity and forever young. Green and those keywords, who do you remember?

• In 2019, they did a selling bundle with Shu Uemura which was a brand Web was endorsing at that time.

• In a live, the color green and red rose were together — GG and Web colors.

• An Ad in their online store where the display is the Leo rose which is Bobo’s zodiac sign. and GG is holding Libra. Leo x Libra. And with the caption below for their advertisement. We know Web is the Leo of all Leos but it’s still 👀

The proud Leo has a child-like arrogant temper. Some people think they are not easy to get along with, but they don’t know that they just have not entered their hearts. Actually, Leo’s tenderness is only for the right person.

Some other thing that I will add here for reference but I don’t necessarily believe. Link from weibo.

• When GG was announced as their brand spokesperson and Web gave a clue in his post. Also GG making 3 different posts and kadian combinations.

I’m adding in this collab they had with Eleme, the same time Web was endorsing the brand.

I’m sure I missed a couple more from RoseOnly but that just depends on how clear your BXG glasses are. To me the most important is their Lonely Planet / Star campaign with GG last year.

2. Shu Uemura - This is one of the OG brands that Web endorses and who loves him very much. They signed him when he was not yet a big star and flew him to different countries. They treat him very well. 🤍

• The most recent one is from their Ad with Bobo and a red ribbon which made us all think of WWX. I can understand from an Ad perspective that it’s perfect to pair up with a red lipstick — but our brains are wired to CPN. Soooo. And this is not their first offense with stuff like this.

• This Ad featuring Bobo : - "博"君一笑 BJYX.

• For the promotion photos of this eyeshadow palette, the colors and look is similar to GG’s painting for the Guangdian album cover. Yes. This was done some time after the song was released.

• This one is more of a coincidence. Years apart, both on the same day, they posted about a collaboration with One piece. It’s their favorite Anime. GG as Luffy & Web as Roronoa Zoro.

3. Qeelin -  will be very lazy with this one and copy/paste from my jewelry post. Take note that this Bobo design is not new and had always been a classic from Qeelin.

4. Kai Xiao Zao - Ah! KXZ! The brand that loves GG the most. So what signs did they give?

• Their recent new product is wontons. Who do we know that likes wontons? It reminded BXGs of the unofficial BTS when Web was nagging GG to eat Wontons.

• They used a well known BXG idiom:

"你是夏日限定, 也是来日方长"

5. Chunzhen - Endorsed by Bobo, and this is under Mengniu. It caused some drama— cause GG & Web are technically promoting the same company. but like, there are so many other c-ent artists endorsing this brand.

• They posted for this year’s Qixi, stating in the Caption that Bobo is able to balance love and work. Really? How did they know? And they had made a character called XIAO ZHEN for qixi ( a cartoon girl with blue hair ).

• Zhenguoli ( endorsed by GG ) and Chunzhen drinks which are under the same company posted graphics of the two drinks together. 👀

• Also since it’s both under the same umbrella company, and both yogurt drinks— you can see their boxes together in shops.

6. Stride - In Bobo’s box set initial release, 3 flavors were included and one of them is passionfruit or bai xiang guo ( bxg ). Of course, bxgs bought it because we were represented. ✌🏼

Also in a message, the brand acknowledged BXGs but later had to delete it because of well— you know who.

7. Swarovski -  endorsed by Web 🤍

• They had turtle charms and bracelets, which endeared them to BXGs.

• They had a bracelet where you can put charms and in their Ad, it spells YIBO. of course. However a BXG noticed that on their recommended letters to add next, the letters are XZ + heart with a dot.

• Last year’s promotion of a lock necklace— Web changed his Weibo header. ‘Lock love, lock you.’

• His May 2020 Mother’s day promotion video that includes a confession (?). I know this is far off but the line used:

“ I love you, want you to see. I am Wang Yibo, this is my unique confession" is so similar to GG’s Bazaar confession.

8. Budweiser -- What we basically CPN about them is that they are an LGBT friendly brand and it’s always a plus when our boys endorse those kind of companies.

• Here you can find the CPN on the can that GG supposedly created with them.

• Their ad about ALL LOVE IS LOVE.•

 An earlier Ad that had two male leads. and another one recently released with same sex couple. 🌈

Also they did a collab with G-shock which is a brand that Web endorses.

9. Man Han Feast Noodles

• The most recent one is GG playing the Guqin ala LWJ and looking out the window to see the moon ( again ala LWJ ). Best part is GG looking like he would burst out laughing and they kept in the Ad.

• In their Mother’s Day post one line says “if you love someone you’ll always encourage them to eat more”. Sounds like a familiar gesture right? Who do we know nags each other to eat?

10. Zenith Do I even have to explain this? 

• GG chose a rainbow watch from Zenith collection for Qixi Festival. 🌈

11. Mengniu - Oh well, just last week they had to clarify as an Ad from them was seen with the words: "并肩于雪山之巅" = BJYXSZD. (Side by Side at the snowy mountain top)

12. Anta/ Li-ning - I’m adding it here cause the store owners in this video brought out GG/Web standees together 😂 Context is, there was a BJYX gathering going on so they took that out cause they knew the attendees loved them.

Plus this shopping app that put them together.

I’m capping this post here and will update this sometime in the future. However the ones I added here stood out to me or I experienced when it came out. I wanted to add Luckin Tea / Lays / Olay but that will be for another time.

As with all the CPN, feel free to not believe any of these and just take it as a coincidence. Or people clowning and reading into things more than they should. lol. Whether these are intentional or not, BXGs are always there to support the boys whenever they can. 🙏🏼

I’m neutral about BH in general, but I do agree with some who say that they should’ve been allowed to start solo activities much sooner. From what I gleaned from Festa, they all felt a bit restricted creatively, which is pretty normal considering how little free time they actually had to focus on solo stuff. Everything feels a little rushed now, since they’re all trying to release something before enlistment.

See, I don't get that impression. Based on everything I've seen and know about their interactions with BigHit management and staff, they as individuals and a group seem very loyal to the company and have never had a overtly bad word to say about the company, despite what people think. That's why I think all members will stick with BH for both group and solo activities.

Yeah, but those idols will generally not have good relations with their old companies. Most Idols I see who go solo with a separate agency, actually have all there work done through that new agency full time and do group activities via their new agency, who would liase with the old one.

Plus do you think that BigHit will want to miss out on a solo activity profits? No. They will do everything within their power to keep BTS sweet.

Well, Technically, if the pandemic hadn't hit and they'd done MOTS7 Tour we would have had solo projects and enlistments by now. But they decided as a group with BigHit to pursue that Grammy with Butter.

Also, up until December 2019, JK and Tae had pretty much completed their mix tapes but with Butter promos and the Webtoon/Game Development stuff, the paused that as a group to concentrate on Butter.

In retrospect, the members I think regretted this decision, which is what lead to RM talking about just being stifled but to suggest it was 100% foisted upon them would be incorrect.

From what I gleaned from Festa, they all felt a bit restricted creatively, which is pretty normal considering how little free time they actually had to focus on solo stuff.

If they, they felt restrictive then J Hope wouldn't of have an album to drop a month after festa, or all the Producer work that Suga has lined up. Or that JK and Tae had been continually working on or changing their mixtapes throughout 2021 and this year too.

I got the impression it wasn't about restrictions on creativity, it was they felt they needed to release the stuff they had created to show us that they are more than just BTS, they are individuals to, as this was the originally intended plan since 2020.

To me it was RM who felt creatively drained, not restricted, by the last few years it seems, as he talked about simply becoming a translator for English to Korean lyrics and vice versa. Then talked about have this time away from the group to get his creative juices flowing again.

Everything feels a little rushed now, since they’re all trying to release something before enlistment.

Does it though...

In hindsight, they have been winding down group activities since the UN Visit last September. As a group they spent more time apart than they ever have since forming in 2011. If the 4 month break between PTD on Stage LA and PTD on Stage Seoul, was probably (in hindsight) the biggest indicator that things were winding down, and has been since RUN BTS was paused last year.

Conclusion:

Look, I may be wrong, but I just don't get this impression that BTS member wish to leave BH, but that doesn't mean things have to stay the same. If fact I'd be very surprised if they did. I think BTS & HYBE/BigHit will be together for a while yet. And when they return from the military, we will get this new phase of BTS that will take longer to comeback for group music but will also work on solo stuff in parallel.

Also, the solo releases we got were kinda lowkey (and I'm only saying kinda bc Jin's ost broke records. and there's no such thing as lowkey with bts lol) but anyway I'm kinda curious about that.

hnm i don't think they're deliberately not doing solo stages this year? i mean the last time they had solo songs in their album was for mots which means (sigh) if the mots tour had happened we would have had more than 15 my time stages by now zhjsjsjs what i'm trying to say is that they did solos stages in the wings tour bc that album had solo songs, they did solos stages in ON:E concert bc mots album has solo songs and they didn't do solo stages for sowoozoo (and for ptd on stage) bc there aren't any rn. BE had subunit songs (whic they MAY perform on day 3 or 4) so they technically aren't supposed to be doing solo stages this time.

also about the solo releases being lowkey as u said, well ost's are never supposed to be promoted. even if i die, it's u was non-promoted and neither was sweet night. and nor will be the upcoming tae ost. other than that only joon released a solo song this year, bicycle, which was part of festa (just like still with u in 2019 and ddaeng in 2018, etc.) hence it was not hyped by hybe as well.

so no i don't think they're sabotaging solo releases at all~

The Gala is a masquarade ball where no one will recognize her. Y/N just wants justice for herself and everyone Kevin Bang hurt.

The event was full of people. Full of filthy rich people, you might add. It was the event of the year for Seoul’s richest and most famous people. The Bang Gala. What is the Bang Gala, you might ask? It was a charity gala where tons of money was gathered for a good cause every year. The cause is always kept a secret until the gala. Last year the money went to an organization that helps orphans who didn’t get adopted to adjust to society. Sounds like a beautiful event, right? In one year, the money went to survivors of natural catastrophes, another year it went to the homeless. Each year millions of dollars were donated. You couldn’t even imagine how big the sums must be.

Bullshit. That was what you thought. Because the people behind this charity gala were the Bang family. Kevin Bang, the owner of Seoul’s biggest real estate agency, no, you could even say the owner of South Korea’s biggest real estate agency hosted the gala. In the media, he was known for being a generous businessman, always leaving huge tips at the restaurants he was eating at. He was not only known for being generous, but also being down to earth too.

All of it was an act. Because you knew who the real Kevin Bang was. You knew how the real, evil, Kevin Bang was like and how he treated the people around him too. He was the reason why your father lost everything.

You were just a kid when all of that happened. You didn’t like to dwell on the past but you were a girl who hated unfair treatment. The past was the past but it wasn’t easy to forget. In the past two years you have been working for a pretty big newspaper – the Seoul Times. Okay, working would be an overstatement. You were basically there to proofread the articles written by the real authors and bring coffee. But you were still happy to be there because it was a start. You studied journalism but had no experience yet so it was even a miracle that you got a job at such a renowned company. Sometimes you did write small articles but mostly it was about boring stuff, for example, how the private school next door opened their new library which was – what a coincidence – sponsored by none other than Kevin Bang.

Your parents were proud of you because you worked your ass off at university for this degree. It was very underwhelming to get such an underpaid job, but you had to work hard to become the head editor one day. Right now, you worked at the “celebrity” department, where they basically gathered all kind of news about any kind of celebrity. Like for example how BTS got another win for their latest album. It wasn’t what you envisioned. Sometimes you switched departments too and just work wherever you were needed. That is why you needed an incredible story to write, a story that you have discovered. You didn’t only write articles but sometimes you had to investigate too, like doing interviews outside the office if the writer himself was too lazy to do it. But this story was your personal story. No help from Seoul Times or any other editor. You knew that this story, your story, would secure you a job on the top. That story was exposing Kevin Bang.

Exposing the real Kevin Bang. Not the beloved charitable, kind person that everyone looked up to, but the asshole, getting-anything-he-wants Kevin Bang. Why was your hatred for him so deep when everyone seemed to love that guy? The answer was simple. If something didn’t fit into Mr. Bang’s plans then he just bought everything with his money and influence. He was one of the reasons why an orphanage was demolished because he wanted to free some space for his clients, so he built a 5-star hotel on that area. According to your research he made some hefty payments to make sure that this does not reach the media. It hurt you a lot because you volunteered a lot at that specific orphanage. The kids there were not prepared to leave at all. It was a shitty move of him and you hated him more for that.

But that was just one of his many wrongdoings. You hated reading anything about that guy and his family.

Chaos. The office was very chaotic because of the on-going charity gala. A lot of newspapers used the gala to get interviews with big names, because anyone who had influence attended that gala. But this year’s theme was not optimal to get a lot of interviews: Masquerade. Everyone had to wear masks so no one knew who you were.

It was interesting since all of the people there already had two faces. The theme made a lot of interviewers back out because if you can’t see the celebrity, interviewing them would be difficult.

You were sitting at your desk, trying to find more dirt on the Bang family when you heard a stack of papers landing next to you, making you flinch a little. It was your supervisor, Hana, who looked at you, annoyed. “Proofread these, okay?”, she sighed, rubbing her temples.

“Okay.”, you said, not wanting to annoy her more.

“I need these by tomorrow by the way.”, she added arrogantly.

“Excuse me, what?!”, you said, standing up in shock. “I can’t even get half of those done in a day!”

She stared you down with an angry expression. “Okay, then why don’t you go and try to interview some masked celebrities at that stupid gala, huh? Our top interviewers don’t want to go because they think it’s a waste of their time!”

You sighed. “Just because you have problems, doesn’t mean that you can put all the workload onto me.”

“I am sick of you complaining, Y/N. This gala is stressing me enough already. It’s not like anything happens at these galas anyway, I don’t even know why we have to send so many employees there. The big boss is crazy. Taejoon doesn’t want to go and we have to send someone from our department.”, Hana said angrily, clearly angry at Taejoon who usually does the interviews for your department.

Then an idea popped into your mind. “Wait… So technically if Taejoon goes to that gala thing, doesn’t he get a free pass?”

“Yeah, we cannot identify the celebs there anyway. But we still have to send ten of our people so that they can write down how much money was donated, where the money goes to, blah blah. Also, if anyone decides to show up without a mask, interview them. Stuff like that.”

This was the idea! You gathered information on Kevin Bang for a while now and if you could find a way to get in there, you might be able to turn everyone against him. You just needed to get the attention of the guests and the media. You knew that you wouldn’t get the recognition you wanted but it would be a start to dig the dirt on him.

Maybe, if you tell the boss that it was you who exposed him, he will let you write the big front-page article about him. Nobody knew more shit about Kevin Bang than you.

“You know, if you let someone else proofread these articles, I would go to that gala instead of Taejoon.”, you offered her.

She gave you a tempting look. “You never went, right? Of course, you would be excited to enter such an exclusive event. But please don’t fall asleep, it gets boring pretty quickly.”, Hana warned you. “Also, you can’t wear a mask as someone from the media. You need to stay in the background, especially since you are still a rookie. Got it?”

Yeah, of course, it was because it was an exclusive event. It’s not like you had a huge ass plan to destroy Kevin Bang or something. “Yeah, got it. Can I go?”, you asked innocently.

She sighed. “Okay. But don’t do anything stupid!”

“I won’t!”

‘At least not when you are around.’, you thought.

Now that you got your free pass to the Bang charity gala, you needed to make up a plan. A really good one. Because your operation was big and you couldn’t risk making any mistakes. The gala was in two days and you quickly needed to figure out what to do and how to do it.

With all the information you had on Kevin Bang, you knew you had to somehow get the attention of the audience that would attend the gala. Through some insider information you found out that there will be a huge projector. It’s projecting at the main stage. So, you somehow needed to get to the tech room to show the audience your evidence.

You found out that a friend of yours, Felix, will be working there on the night of the gala as a waiter for drinks. You were sure that he would be a huge help and approached him but at first, he thought you were crazy. You were basically trying to ruin a charity event. But after explaining why you wanted to do it, he agreed to help you with your plan. There was a designated area for the press, so you needed to get inside and change first to mix with the actual guests.

This was your plan:

1.    Get inside the actual building as someone from the press

2.    Bring a sexy dress and a mask

3.    With the help of Felix get in the employee area to change

4.    Act as if you’re a guest and talk negatively about Kevin Bang

5.    Get in the computer room to “hack” the projector

6.    Expose Kevin Bang

Sometimes you felt like one of those drama Youtube channels. But this was more than just telling everyone about a horrible person. You did this for your family, especially for your dad. Your family was ruined because of him. Your parents worked their hardest just so you could go to university. Of course, you also did this to write an article about him and get a better position at work. But there was more of a personal agenda behind this.

After a long day of work, you finally came home, clearly exhausted. The gala was tomorrow and you were really nervous about everything. Your roommate Jisung walked out of the kitchen and looked at you. Jisung and you met on your first day of university and became friends quickly. He was your closest friend and you knew you could trust him with your life. “Hey, I got a huge ass dress delivery for you today? What are you going to do with such a fancy dress?”, he asked you curiously.

You smiled at him, determined. “I will attend the Bang charity gala tomorrow.”

Jisung’s eyes widened. “What? For real? Because of your job or what?”

You smirked. “Just wait. After tomorrow, I will finally get the recognition I deserve. And yeah, I will get in thanks to my job.”

Jisung looked at you suspiciously as he sat down with a bowl of chips in front of you. “You're planning something, aren’t you?”

You put on a confident smile as you laid down on the couch. “Yeah. Look, I will tell you everything after the gala. It’s a huge thing so…”

“Don’t get arrested or something, dude.”, Jisung sighed. “Well, since you won’t tell me now, why don’t we watch a movie on Netflix then?”

“Sure.”

The day of the gala arrived quickly and you found yourself with a camera hanging onto your neck in front of the huge ass gala building. You gave your dress to Felix before so he could hide it in the employee changing rooms. Your hands were sweaty as you took some pictures.

“So, we will be at different locations throughout the building. Try to get some good pictures and if you recognize someone, try to get an interview, okay?”, one of the interviewers told the Seoul Times journalists.

As you went to your designated areas you looked around for Felix to get out of here. At the same time, you admired the huge building with a rich history. Literally, rich. The guests were coming in slowly and everyone looked glamorous and fancy. Their dresses probably cost more than you earn in a month. The location was beautifully decorated, the main stage was huge. While looking around you saw the tech people going upstairs. The tech room must have been upstairs. You couldn’t find a good floor plan on the internet and security was high alert. There had to be a way to get up there. Dressing up as someone from the tech crew would be too obvious but no one would suspect a masked woman in a dress. Especially since you were masked, you were even safer.

As everyone was seated Kevin Bang entered the main stage shortly after. His crisp suit looked expensive, his hair was slicked back. His face was half covered by a black mask. Behind him was his wife, probably number 6 by now, and his son Chan. They also wore masks that didn’t do a good job with covering their faces. Your gaze wandered more towards to his son than Kevin himself. He looked handsome, you couldn’t deny that, with his black hair and dark blue, perfectly sitting suit. You also noticed that he didn’t look too excited to stand there. Interesting.

“Welcome to the annual Bang charity gala! I am happy to see so many faces – well, technically I can’t see you but I appreciate every single one of you!”, Kevin said enthusiastically which earned him hearty laughs from the audience. You rolled your eyes. “You for sure have been wondering where the money goes to this year! This year, we are donating the money of this beautiful gala to a brand-new hospital! With the money you donate every year we can build a completely new hospital where everyone can be treated! The best thing about the hospital?”, he started and showed a picture of the future hospital that was projected behind him. “We will get the best doctors! Anything for our residents of Seoul!”

The crowd cheered and clapped politely. The rich were delighted. “Let’s see how much money we can gather tonight!”

You scoffed at his stupid smirk. “What a freaking liar, the money doesn’t even arrive there.”, you whispered angrily.

The event kicked off, classical music was playing in the background. Since the theme was “masquerade” the guests started waltzing in pairs. It did look very appealing but it felt like this wasn’t your world. In fact, this was not your world. You sometimes wished it was. Not worrying about anything, especially money. You knew you could never fit in.

You then got up looking around. Security was everywhere. Then you spotted Felix who walked up to you. “Hey, sorry, I’m late. These rich people never stop drinking.”, he sighed, clearly exhausted as he pushed his blonde hair back.

“It’s fine the event just started. How can I get out of here without security noticing?”, you asked him, feeling the fear inside you coming up.

“Just walk next to me. As long as you don’t act suspiciously nothing will happen.”, he assured you and walked you to the employee changing rooms. You noticed a few glances from some security guards but nobody stopped you.

As you were getting dressed, Felix spoke up. He was hiding behind some lockers so you could dress in peace. “But Y/N… what if you get caught? How do you plan on getting out of here after doing that stunt?”

You sighed, “I need to do everything step by step, Felix. First, I need to get to the tech room and make sure that everyone out there can here hear me. Then I will decide what to do. But I won’t get caught.”, you told Felix while putting on your red dress that had lace details on the top part. It wasn’t tight but still looked really nice. It was a rather flowy dress and you could breathe in that dress. It looked expensive enough for the elite of Seoul. Good thing that you can rent dresses. You then put on some red lipstick and put your mask on that covered nearly your entire face except for your lips. You were unrecognizable, especially since you looked like a zombie normally.

As you turned the corner to meet Felix his eyes widened for a moment. “Wow, you look nice! I bet you will fit in without any problems!”

You smiled at him and then squeezed his cheek. “Aww! Thank you, Felix. I’m really nervous… but I have to do this.”

He looked at you with a worried expression, “Please, be careful, alright?”

You nodded and quietly exited the dressing room. Some people sat at their assigned seats, others were talking about the event. The music was loud but the atmosphere was alright. For now.

You decided to join a group who were talking. They were two women who were gushing about how extravagant this gala was. They were wearing expensive designer dresses.

“I love the gold details in the decoration.”, one of the women, the one who wore a black mask, said.

“I wish they would serve some more seafood. The buffet is horrible.”, the other one said, sighing. Wow.

“But no matter what Mr. Bang does, his galas are still the best!”, black mask spoke up again.

“I don’t get why everyone likes him so much…”, you spoke up, taking a glass of champagne from a waiter that was walking by.

The women looked at you, a look of confusion in their eyes. “Why would you say that? Everyone loves him.”, black mask said, defending the man.

You sighed. “I heard that he's a real asshole in reality. Ever heard of when he bulldozed an orphanage for his new hotel?”, you told them.

They gasped in shock. “He would never do something like that, would he?”

“Well he paid the media so word couldn’t get out.”, you told them.

Then they started discussing if this was real or not. That was what you did for the first hour. While there was some show on the stage, you trash talked Kevin Bang. While some people didn’t even listen to you, others were saying that they had assumptions about him. Kevin Bang was a smart man. He wouldn’t show his real face to anyone.

As you were looking around the room, you felt something or rather someone staring at you. Now that you think of it, you felt that even earlier. Then you saw that in fact someone was staring at you. That suit and mask… He looked really familiar. He walked up to you and held out his hand. “Would you like to dance with me?”

You were surprised and didn’t know what to do. “Uh, I’m not really a dancer.”

“Just follow my lead, you will be fine.”, his butter smooth voice assured you. Damn it.

You then took his hand and followed him to the dance floor. He put one hand on your waist and his other hand held yours. You wondered why he asked you out of all people. You carefully followed his steps, trying not to embarrass yourself.

“So, what’s your deal? Who are you?”, he grumbled, his eyes dark.

“This is a masquerade, isn’t it? Why would you ask me that?”, you told him, slightly surprised by his sudden change of attitude. What was he trying to do?

“I heard you talk shit about my father. What the hell are you even doing here if you hate him that much, huh?”

Your eyes widened. Of course, he was Kevin Bang’s son! You recognized him from earlier. “Why do you act like everyone in this room loves him? As if I am the only person who dislikes him.”

He tightly squeezed your hand and waist to symbolize his seriousness. “Oh, really? You don’t know him. He is a businessman, sometimes he has to make sacrifices like relocating an orphanage.”

So, he was listening to you. Interesting. “You call that relocating? You don’t know shit.”, you said in an annoyed tone.

“And you know that better than his own son?”

It was your turn to give him a tight squeeze on his shoulder. “Yeah, I actually have my sources.”

You were dancing in circles and his gaze bore into yours. You would find it cute that he tried to defend his father if he wasn’t Kevin’s son. “I will find out who the hell you are. I bet you are one of the Lee’s. You guys are always jealous of us.”

You sighed. “I am so jealous of you and your life. Oh, fuck off. You know, I don’t have to like you or your father. And here I thought I would dance with a gentleman.”, you said, trying to sound disinterested.

The music finally came to an end and you looked at the man in front of you. “It was not nice to dance with you. Let’s not do that again.”, you said and turned your back, walking away from him.

“Wait! Who the hell are you?”, Chan shouted, gaining a few looks from the crowd. But before he could follow you, you were lost in the crowd.

You tried to go through busy crowds and then tried to find a way to go to the computer/tech room. You decided that it would be best if you pretended to search for a bathroom or something, so you sneaked upstairs without anyone noticing you for now.

It was time. Time to get revenge. Time to show the world who the real Kevin Bang was. Time to shine.

It’s always such a cool thing to be reminded of stuff that brought you joy, which is why I like Spotify wrapped so much. Music is a huge part of my daily life and the artists’ whose music accompany me bring me so much joy and comfort. 

I didn’t actually expect to see BTS dethroned from their top spot but they did only release 3 (and a half) songs this year, and I discovered and dove into Seventeen’s whole discography this year. Same with Taemin and Astro. It’s been such a fun ride. Taylor Swift is like the odd one out (especially since she has no songs in my Top 100) but I have listened a lot to her 2020 albums and the re-recordings from this year.

I’ve made some charts in excel because I wanted to know more about the songs in my Top 100 below. I’ll make it a below the cut.

I was curious how many songs in my top would be from this year and to no surprise it’s quite a lot, but a fair bit of 2020 songs snuck on as well. A bit from ‘16-’18 as well and then one outlier of the Britney song from 2003. 

I had 24 different artists on my Top 100 list. Only 8 weren’t kpop artists (and technically Wang Yibo is in a kpop group I believe so his song with Xiao Zhan could be debated). 

We had whopping 21 songs from Seventeen, as well as Hoshi’s solo song. 2 songs from SHINee, one of which grabbed the no. 1 spot, and 14 songs from Taemin and 4 from Key. 16 songs from Astro and almost all of their two albums from this year made it on. Stray Kids managed to sneak in 10 songs despite coming in late to the party. “Only” 5 BTS songs, but then also 2 Agust D songs and one RM song. And then lastly, we have 3 IU songs. 

The only other artist that isn’t kpop who got more than 1 song on here is Bo Burnham courtesy of his brilliant show Inside which I watched twice and then promptly added and binged all the songs. 9 of them made it into this list. 

This year, I really started diving more into kpop, and also adding more groups that I followed more closely and it’s been such a fun and wild ride. There’s so much wonderful music out there and I have loved discovering it a lot of it this year.

NCT 2020: SYNERGY (my wishes for an album)

I was positive we were getting an NCT 2020 comeback at the start of the year, however now I have realised I am a clown. So, instead, I have spent longer than I should’ve creating an album filled with stuff that I would like to see.

I want to preface this with the fact that I have no qualifications in anything related to music / album design / production or anything like that, this is just based on my opinions as a fan of music and NCT.

I’m gonna split this into 4 sections to kinda separate my thoughts, and so it’s easier to navigate.

1. TITLE

NCT 2018s album is titled EMPATHY, the definition of this being “the ability to understand and share the feelings of another”. I think SM chose this to reflect how NCT 2018 was an amalgamation of 127, DREAM, and U. I wanted to try and keep this theme for NCT 2020, though expand on it due to the addition of WAYV. 

SYNERGY is defined as “the combined power of a group when they are working together, that is greater than the total power achieved by each working separately”. To be honest, I think the word ‘synergy’ perfectly sums up NCT’s concept of sub-units, so it would be a good choice for NCT 2020s album’s title due to its meaning as well as its similarity to ‘empathy’ sound-wise. 

2. ALBUM COVER 

The album cover for EMPATHY was very bright, like all the colours of the rainbow, but still very minimalistic and kinda futuristic? The NCT vibe. I think their second album would suit a slightly more mature design, and as I have no talent in design, I’m going to use existing album covers to give an idea of what i think would work well.

If SM was to go down the route of a similar album cover, I think the best example is the 1975′s newest album:

It still has the text elements that were prominent on EMPATHY’s cover, while being more minimalistic in colour (aside from the yellow side panel which would theoretically be bright neobong green).

If they were to go along a different route to EMPATHY, I think this album cover by Paris Jones could work well for NCT 2020:

If the background surface was black, a polaroid of all 21 members could be a simple but effective album cover. 

In terms of promotional photos, this scene from the WAYV ‘Regular’ MV is my first thought:

Photos taken on a set like this, with all the members dotted about the room and maybe the album title + members’ names repeated across the screens could work well to give off the futuristic NCT vibe. 

3. TITLE TRACK / CONCEPT 

I can’t create a whole album’s worth of songs, so for the next two sections all the songs mentioned are going to be from existing artists. I’m not trying in anyway to suggest that “NCT would do it better” or that NCT should release the exact songs mentioned - I’m just using these songs to represent the styles I would like to see NCT explore. 

Title Track: GETTING CLOSER - SEVENTEEN 

I think SVT are a really good example of having a lot of members that all have the opportunity to shine. Getting Closer is that bitch, like the line distribution is spot-on and the choreography is one of my all-time favourites. 

Black on Black was mainly instrumental to highlight the performance ability of NCT 2018. Getting Closer is reminiscent of BoB in its powerful nature, but would be able to show NCT 2018′s growth into NCT 2020, with further vocal / rap capabilities showcased alongside the previously established performance talent.

The concepts of BoB and Getting Closer are already similar, so this wouldn’t be anything out of NCT’s / SM’s comfort zone, and would also work towards establishing a dark & powerful ‘brand’ for when all sub-units perform together as one. 

Special Stage: UH-OH - (G)-IDLE

I would like to see NCT 2020 do something a little bit different than ‘powerful’ for the special stage. Uh-Oh has a really chilled kinda west-coast vibe that I think NCT are yet to fully explore in any sub-unit but could absolutely pull off. It would be a stage where they could genuinely have fun performing all together. 

I imagine the stage being done in a way similar to Growl by EXO in that certain groups of members come onto the stage for different verses, then all come on together for the final chorus.

The styling for Uh-Oh is kinda summer streetwear. The best equivalent I’ve found for a boy group in this style is ATEEZ Wave era.

This shows kinda how I think the styling for this stage should be, in particular Jongho, Yunho, and Mingi. Just think lots of colour, street brands, and denim. 

Getting Closer and Uh-Oh are the only songs on the album where I’ve put all 21 members on the same track. 

4. TRACKLIST 

I have no talent when it comes to album design / composition or anything like that, but I tried to create a sort of theme / flow between the songs I picked for the album. NCT songs I’d liken the overall theme to are ‘Love Song’ from Neo Zone, ‘Love Again’ from Reload, and ‘YESTODAY’ from Empathy. 

I’ve used an intro, interlude, and outro to show progression of NCT 2020 through the album, with these 3 songs getting more upbeat one by one. Though extremely cringey, I guess I was trying to emulate them growing happier through being together as a group.

Aside from the two tracks mentioned above that feature all members, the rest of the songs are split into sub-units, whether it be pre-existing unofficial units within NCT or a selection of members I think suit the style of a certain song. I have not included any official NCT sub-units on this album, as that was done in EMPATHY. I’d like this to be one big NCT U album, where we get the members in combinations we’d otherwise never get to hear performing together. 

The Tracklist: 

INTRO: The Unknown Guest (DEAN)

Members: Xiaojun

Xiaojun is a beyond amazing singer (he is my joint favourite vocalist in NCT). This song has an old feel, it’s almost haunting, and I really think Xiaojun’s voice would suit such a song perfectly. Xiaojun performing an intro of this style alone would open the album well and give him the time to shine he deserves !

Track 1: Getting Closer (SVT)

Members: All

(Explained above)

Track 2: CHILLI (SVT)

Members: Rap Line (Taeyong, Johnny*, WinWin*, Lucas, Mark, Hendery, Jaemin, YangYang, Jeno, Jisung*)

I might have completely forgotten some songs but I don’t think NCT have ever released a rap-heavy song of this style. I would love to see them do a rap song with this sort of relaxed vibe - it would show off diversity in their rapping abilities and would be a fun concept to see.

*I know Johnny, WinWin, and Jisung are in both the vocal and rap lines, but I’ve chosen to include them on the rap line track rather than the vocal line track as I think they suit the vibe of this track better than the vocal track. Plus, it would give the three of them more lines (god knows they need them) if they were on this track rather than with the vocal line :)

Track 3: Uh Oh (G-IDLE)

Members: All

(Explained above) 

Track 4: The Truth Untold (BTS)

Members: Vocal Line (Taeil, Yuta, Doyoung, Kun, Ten, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, Xiaojun, Renjun, Haechan, Chenle)

Although NCT has released ballads before, I would love to hear members from different subunits singing together. Like, imagine Renjun, Xiaojun, and Jungwoo on the SAME track - the power. Taeil and Chenle harmonising? Iconic.

Track 5: Spotlight (1the9)

Members: Foreign Swaggers / English-Speaking Line (Johnny, Ten, Jaehyun, Hendery, Xiaojun, Mark, YangYang)

I know Xiaojun, Hendery, and YangYang aren’t technically in the Foreign Swaggers, but I feel like spiritually they are. I wanna see 6 of them causing havoc while Jaehyun spectates (https://youtu.be/acsjfk4cz1U). A song with a playful vibe, not necessarily in English, would suit these members well.

INTERLUDE: Dayfly (DEAN)

Members: Taeil, Taeyong, Kun, Doyoung, Jungwoo

I don’t have any reasoning for why I’ve chosen these specific members for this song other than the fact I think the style suits them well. I think the 5 of them together on an interlude with a relaxed feel would just be a really calming break in the album.  

Track 6: Vibe (1Team)

Members: Taeyong, Yuta, Jungwoo, Jeno, Jaemin, Haechan, Jisung

This is quite a broad range of members in terms of age but I don’t think that matters as each of their styles would suit a song like this. A relaxed style and structure similar to the one this song has would allow each of them to shine, as it’s nearly an equal split of rappers to vocalists.

Track 7: Retro Future (Triple H)

Members: Johnny, Ten

Baby Don’t Stop 2.0. I can just imagine these two singing a song like this and having so much fun. A JohnTen duet track is giving the gays (read @incorrectnct​ ) not only what they want, but what they deserve. 

Track 8: Base Line (J-HOPE)

Members: 99 Line (Lucas, Mark, Hendery, Xiaojun)

The 99 line is 3/4 rappers so a song that is rap-heavy in style would best showcase their ability. We’ve heard Mark and Lucas together during EMPATHY era, and Lucas with Hendery and Xiaojun in WAYV, so I have no doubts the 4 would work together. Plus, rapper Xiaojun could be something that we don’t yet have but definitely need. 

Track 9: Focus on Me (JUS2)

Members: 97 Line (Jaehyun, WinWin)

These two are made for a sexy concept like the style of this song, and their voices complement each-others’ so well. I always felt Jaehyun was one of the members of 127 WinWin was most comfortable around, so their existing chemistry would make a track together even better. 

Track 10: Second Life (SVT)

Members: China Line (Kun, WinWin, Lucas, Hendery, Xiaojun, Renjun, YangYang, Chenle)

They have the range.

Track 11: New Rules (TXT)

Members: 00 Line (Haechan, Renjun, YangYang, Jaemin, Jeno)

A song with a fun feel to it like this is the only way to go for the 00 line. They are almost an even split of rappers and vocalists, so a song like this would allow each member to shine. I know any song with these 5 together would make me smile while listening to it. 

OUTRO: Blue Side (J-HOPE)*

Members: Yuta

Imagine if SM gave Yuta his own solo track,, just kidding,,, unless? But for real, Yuta has managed to prove how talented an artist he is despite SM only giving him 2 lines and 8 seconds of screen time each comeback, so imagine how amazing a whole song by him would be.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I tried to split the members evenly between tracks, which I know is unrealistic but is what we want to see (SM please let Mark, Taeyong, and Haechan rest). I’m not sure if we’ll ever get another full group album, I’ve heard some people saying it will be NCT 2021 for 21 members, like the 18 members for NCT 2018. Regardless, making this made me feel happy thinking about the possible interactions and the songs that could come from it.

my ult groups are seventeen and bts (thanks for doing two groups, luna, otherwise I wouldn’t have thought to do that lol).

1. who was your first bias

svt: soonyoung, jihoon, and minghao were my initial top three (however, seungcheol and seokmin were the first two who caught my eye visually-only, but they *spoiler* didn’t make my bias list until later on).

bts: jungkook was my first bias ever. i thought it was so cool how young he was to have achieved all that they have.

2. who is your bias now?

svt: uhh, now i have six biases that constantly rotate for the #1 position. in the order in which they were added to this new list: minghao, chan, joshua, seungcheol, seungkwan, and seokmin. (currently, i think seok has the top spot, but you didn’t hear it from me.)

bts: jung hoseok. that is all; thank you for coming to my ted talk. but no, hobi is my one and only ultimate bias out of all of the groups i listen to.

3. what is the first mv you watched by them?

svt: i think it was my my? i know, very recent. yes, i haven’t actually been listening to seventeen for very long; i became a carat because of the heng:garae album in 2020. the choreography version of the left & right mv specifically made me want to learn more about the group.

bts: technically, it was the mv for dope back in 2015 through a friend in high school. although, it took me four years after that to actively decide to listen to them on my own. i would consider fake love to be the first mv i watched once i decided to learn more about the group, despite the era having already passed.

4. what’s your favourite mv?

svt: fallin’ flower. hands down, without a question.

bts: it might just be lights. i think my default answer would have been blood sweat & tears (solely because that’s the only song on my mind, apparently), but no, i’m a soft stan at heart, and lights fulfills that (and taehyung blue hair).

5. if you could listen to one of their songs for the rest of your life, which would it be?

svt: habit. hands down, without a question. (that is my all-time favourite seventeen song; i have many other favourites, but this one is undoubtedly at the top of my list.)

bts: unlike seventeen, i do not have just one favourite song that outranks the rest. i have too many favourite bts songs, so this question is challenging. i think it has to depend on my mood. blue & grey, for instance, fulfills my love for slow, ballad-esque songs, but the mood that louder than bombs and cypher 4 emanate... need i say more?

6. who would you want to see them collab with?

svt: i don’t think i have a strong answer for this question as collabs aren’t something i normally think about. i do really enjoy the product of pink sweat$’s collab with seokmin and joshua, so maybe something similar to that?

bts: i think the boys’ relationship with halsey is absolutely adorable and wholesome, so i wouldn’t mind seeing that again. oh! or becky g. again too! i just adore how she and hoseok are so so supportive of each other.

7. what mv concept do you want to see them do?

svt: luna, you answered something similar to blood sweat & tears, and i agree with you x1000. yes, that expensive, artistic, but broodingly dark and sensual concept. ha... yeah, i’d like to see that.

bts: ... am i allowed to answer a blood sweat & tears pt 2 here? okay, but i’m SO sad that i missed out on orange-haired hoseok... and just the whole wings era in general.

8. have you ever had a dream with any of the members in it?

svt: yes, and if i’m being specific, the whole idea to begin my IWYMH fic (aka, the first story i posted to tumblr) was inspired by a dream i had. to be fair, a lot of it was sourced as i was writing it, but specifically, the whole parking lot scene with the dog was from a dream i had. i know that there was a different time where joshua was helping me with understanding something in korean. i remember, i was trying to figure out an honorific for “잘자요,” but for some reason, shua responded with “bon ici”??? although none of the translations made sense, i don’t think i’ll ever understand how i managed to dream in english, korean, and french that night.

bts: i know i’ve had dreams with bts members as well since my dreams tend to be very vivid, but nothing in particular comes to mind (and i rambled enough for that above answer anyways).

9. if you could spend the day with one member, who would it be, and what would you do?

svt: since i am biased as hell, hands down one of my six biases... but which one? uhh, that’ll probably depend on my mood that day. right now (since he’s been bias wrecking me the most lately) i’d probably say seokmin because he just makes me ~happy~. there’s nothing in particular that i’d want to do, just hang out, maybe grab some lunch, something low-key like that.

bts: hoseok. yeah, hoseok, please and thanks. and the same thing as above, just something low-maintenance would be my preferred thing to do.

10. which member do you think you would get on best with?

svt: i think temperament-wise, i am the most similar to a combination of minghao and jihoon, with a sprinkle of joshua in the mix. so, only logically will i choose chan. no, there’s no logic there, i just think because we’re the same age, he may enjoy being (technically, because of birth months) older than someone for once. (and i think our mbti types are, like, super, super compatible?)

bts: likewise, i think i have the most similar temperament as yoongi, so my answer is hoseok. no, i don’t accept constructive criticism here. thanks.

11. which member do you think you would argue with?

svt: i try to avoid conflict as best as possible, so technically none. however, i am the kind of person to playfully tease those who i feel comfortable around, so maybe seungkwan or jeonghan since they seem to be the same way.

bts: with the same reasoning as above, i think i’d bicker the most with seokjin or jimin. only playfully, of course, not for actual arguments.

12. if you had to choose one member to scroll through your tumblr, who would it be?

svt: oh dear, if i had to have one of them do this, maybe vernon, i guess? just because i take him as someone who wouldn’t have a strong opinion on it. the “to each their own” mindset is something that i think vernon has.

bts: this one pains me even more to think about. perhaps namjoon or taehyung for a similar reason as above?

Not anymore. I still love The GazettE, but I don't consider them to be my favorite band. Aside I also like Bursters, Purple Rain, N.Flying, Red Hot Chili Peppers and older disbanded bands like ScReW, アンド AND -Eccentric Agent- and MEJIBRAY.

10. Favorite solo artist?

No, not anymore. I couldn't listen to DuelJewel for a while because the friendship with the person who introduced them to me ended bad. But not anymore. I usually don't try to associate songs with people, especially not songs I love because sooner or late someone will try to ruin it for you.

I shed some tears while listening to B.I - illa illa, but the last time I really cried was when I listened to Jeong Eunji's 'AWay'.

My biggest priority would be to go back to see the Bee Gees live once. Best would be their concert in Las Vegas 1997, the played so many great songs there. ♥

I also would like to see disbanded groups like アンド AND -Eccentric Agent-, ScReW and MEJIBRAY.

40. Which was the best concert you’ve ever been to?

I have to take out the organization of nearly every concert because it was so awful that it damaged my mood before the concert even started. But I am still not sure if I enjoyed Pentagon, GOT7 or SF9 more, but yeah one of them.

Not particulary dislike, but I wasn't and still ain't much of a fan when it comes to hip-hop, but thanks to you I at least like some songs of artists like pH-1 or Sik-K.

Live recordings sure have their own charm. To see how the artists performs live and if they sound like on the CDs, but I prefer studio recordings due to clean sound of the music.
