also btw as a programming note i do personally hc urianger as transfem nonbinary/genderfluid so i do use a variety of pronouns when referring to her/them/him. i'll often use he/him bc that's the pronouns urianger has in canon (in the english translation - in japanese he uses watashi as a personal pronoun, which is gender neutral) so my posts are easier to read for the casual plounceblog reader/browser. but know that the gender is always present in my mind and in my work.

This is a very sweet scene but now I need to know how the others would react to seeing the wind-up toys I have of them. There's another G'raha one too and I wonder how he'd react to THAT one lmaooo

6.55 Wuk Lamat Strikes!
I know what I'm referencing and I mean it.
Tumblr media
HER HOME!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is pretty much a summary of my feelings lol
I'm really moved by how you can tell Wuk Lamat's VA talks spanish. Casting really landed with Sena and I'm grateful we have her in Final Fantasy XIV. I can't wait for more in Dawntrail!!
But on actual plot, I did laugh going "Tsk tsk" but I do have to concede it is kind of odd with him refering to Lyna at the end? It's true Krile could have been better as the well meaning ignorant one
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though this would be harder to animate on a lalafel jaja
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Interesting to reframe the Golden City myth as a local legend only teased for royal sucession activities... might they have read up on the myth being born from Conquistadores hearing of Muisca Cacique crowning ceremonies' at lakes with gold, and making up shit from that? I'll be jazzed if they portray it with the correct visuals after how fucking shitty and wrong that one movie was. The idea is making me do spins and walkies
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but also LMAOOOOOOOO real old friends behavior
This would make Nemi slip "Tan tenso/So tense" in Turali and surprise everyone. She would awkardly disclose her mom did teach her the language, but with her presumed death at hr 8 years and no use left, she's rusty outside of some parts of her journal. Wuk Lamat would lift her in a surprise hug and declare any help she wants with the language, she shall receive. Nemi had never been so flustered lol.
Tumblr media
Krile what's with those enormous eye bags?? Are you okay?
With this lion brother Koana, also adopted... is he the m'iqote in the main art lol?
Tumblr media
guys Argentina mention???
Tumblr media
"Might you PLEASE not excel in succesful predator cat behavior"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nemi probably bashing off... And Wuk Lamat's enthusiasm lol. In this screenshot Erenville does look like a bunny in silhouette LOL
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"not weak" OH NO SHE IS THAT TYPE. SHE IS SO LOVELYYYY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is what that one fuckass Emerald Serenadde felt like
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Graha saw thru her bravado with her trembling hand and was encouraging... ohh Wuk Lamat I LOVE YOUUUU

[Lio] Genuinely obsessed with how extremely plural FFXIV is. Doesn’t matter if you’re a singlet, your player character in FFXIV is CANON plural and like, more than once, and they aren’t the only one. There’s minimum like seven plural cases I can think of in this game

had a dream i was meteor final fantasy and my group was trying to infiltrate something leverage style.
first we were at a wedding where we helped circumstances so one of the guests pissed off a bridesmaid so she would fall into a pool.
then we were helping our oldest member explore this hideout that was like ruins of some fantasy ship for records. she went along with our youngest one who was a thief and great actor to distract the people in the dining area to make our incursion seem obvious.
I endee up slipping away quietly even in my armor trying to locate an office. Our final member was a nogitsune girl who was exploring the harder to reach areas as she didn't need to breathe.
However we didnt count on something there that weakened ghosts. The two girls in the main area were smoothly answering questions about the wedding. And I/Meteor had reached a promising hallway. Then the sense of a scream echos in my head and I know shes in trouble. I make my way over to where she was going which was an underwater portion of the ship.
I see her barely clinging on to her human form, floating listlessly near the top, something above the room we're in is hurting her.
I send a signal through our communication devices (linkpearl??) and then see something through the windows outside. I grab the nogitsunes body and swim to the windows. G'raha is there and he gestures for me to move away from the windows. I do back off and he uses magic to send a pylon of stone through the thick glass.
We swim to the surface. The girl disappates from my arms and possess a nearby bamboo tree to recover. We have to get back but also the nogitsune isnt fully like all there so I coax her gently like a small child that I will protect her no matter what.
So I hike up this hill with a bamboo tree following me like it can just slide across the ground and then I wake up

ok so ive never properly played genshin and don’t plan to but i know a bit about it’s lore and characters and i think it’s really neat. however i have thousands of hours on ffxiv. on that note please explain why graha and childe are similar. i only have very basic knowledge on childe and i gotta know
Fellow ffxiv enjoyer. <3
(anyone asking me about G'raha has a 100% chance of getting a wall of text and I'm not apologising for that. enjoy your wall of text)
I'm not entirely sure I'm not a case of a person with a hammer to whom everything resembles a nail, but I do think they are the same archetype.
Sweet characters who could have been perfect sidekicks (who still are perfect sidekicks) but listened to too many epic tales as kids and found themselves in a wrong place at a wrong time and now have to play a key role in some universe-changing story.
Both are defined mostly by their stubborness, they are not very suitable for the roles they've chosen and fail over and over again until they do it somewhat right (barely).
No matter how badass they look, their power is not their own, G'raha is a glorified technician of someone else's miracle and little else than a living key, Childe wields an art of old Khaenri'ah without fully understanding it. It's all borrowed from someone else who needed them to achieve a goal.
They do look badass, but mostly because they larp. I'm honestly not sure which one enjoys theatrics more.
Civilisations that created the magic they use specialised in perversion of the natural order of things. They try to use it in relatively noble ways and mostly hurt themselves but the flavour is there.
Both are unbelievably tragic and both somehow make their stories seem almost lighthearted. Complete absense of self-pity. I think that's what makes them both so charming, it's a rare trait.
Both have an incredible capacity for loyalty and love and an incredibly twisted view of what relationships look like. "I'll cross time and space for you, I'll die for you, I'll build a city for you, I'll live for you but please don't ask me to share my plans." "I'll sacrfice my own health and respect of my subordinates to keep my brother's happyness, probably my humanity too, but don't expect me to actually interact with him."
Both have something that looks like self-sacrificial tendencies bordering on suicidality while being, if we are honest, a self-serving trait (partially born out of low self-esteem but still self-serving). They want to live in an old myth and sacrificing oneself is a perfectly reasonable price for that.
Huge egos. And I mean Huge Egos. It's a bit less obvious in Graha's case but I know the type, you see guys like that in PhD programs a lot.
Huge dorks. Both of them.
Both are stuck somewhere between human and non-human and, hmm... their ability to remain human is the most astonishing quality of both. By all accounts, neither should have. They somehow did.
Both are incapable of lying to the point where a third of each fandom headcanons them as autistic. Both are somewhat all right with tricking people without technically lying (although Childe had more practice).
Both are secretive because no one would understand anyway.
FF XIV is a kinder story, so it's easy to overlook, but technically G'raha is a case of body horror, accepts the role of a villain for a while and hides from the player way too much. Hmmm... Where else have I seen it. Hmm. Oh right. That ginger guy from Genshin.
Minor things:
Both are little shits and enjoy annoying the hell out of people they dislike.
Abysmally bad fashion sense. There should be a name for this particular type and level of bad. I don't think I've seen this anywhere else.
And then there's the colour scheme. Red+black+white+blue and red+black+light grey+blue (it's an "anime magician" color profile, I think. black-red-white as alchemy colours + blue as pure magic/something elemental). Childe doesn't quite fit but still the combination is rare.
They way they talk. Dear gods. Who the hell talks like that.
Here's where the similarities end.
One is morally grey but ultimately a good guy (technically. I think the point of ShB was that Emet and G'raha are almost the same), another is a morally grey but still (kind of) a bad buy.
At every step of his story Graha is surrounded by people who love or at least appreciate him, Childe is pretty much on his own and surrounded by people who are either shitty or clueless.
G'raha is kind. Truly and astonishingly kind, in a doomed world he chooses to love everything he touches. Silly little priest of hope. Of all the things he has done this is the most wondrous, I think. Not the time travel, not the city he founded, just being able to remain kind after everything that happened to him.
Childe is... well, Childe. I think he is a deeply decent person (to the point of having a visceral distaste for any kind of unfairness) and he's idealistic but he's indifferent more than he is kind. Empathy usually develops only when someone has shown the person empathy first and, as far as we know, he didn't have much of that in his life.
Also G'raha builds things. Childe breaks things. Childe breaks pretty much everything he touches.
One is an archeologist and a mage and another is a warrior.
I think these differences are caused mostly by the settings they were put into. Childe raised in Sharlayan would have been a very different person. G'raha trained by a voidsent and shipped off to Garlean military would look very much like Childe.
G'raha also has a beautiful character development arc. I love his ShB role. He has this huge ego in the raids and is insufferable and then we see an older and wiser him with a bunch of actual achievements and a bad case of impostor syndrome (trying to do anything real always humbles a person, we all know that real world is held together by sticks and scotch tape. honestly, this change alone is beautiful). And he gets to be an actual hero when he abandons all hope to be Important and resigns to die as a nameless villain if it saves everyone and spares his loved ones from heartbreak.
Childe's character development is yet to happen and I'm not hoping for much but we'll see.
The only difference that definitely isn't created by setting is that G'raha is naturally manipulative. In a kind-hearted way and mostly for the sake of better larp but he isn't that straightforward. Childe is spectacularly blunt for all his mysteriousness.
As a bonus, they both compare main characters to stars, but in completely different ways.
"No doubt your heroism will be the star by which I chart my course," says G'raha to the WoL.
Childe mentions the morning star, which is, of course, pretty and a good companion to a lonely traveler, but also it's not a celestial body you can chart your course by.
It's a guy whose signature weapon is called "Polar Star" and his first artifact set was full of nautical themes, so I think he fully understands what he's saying. "You are my friend but I won't change anything in my life for you."
So I don't think his story will be anything like G'raha's, his life took a different turn very long ago. I do think they used to be similar as kids, bookish boys who dreamed of adventure and being special. So it's fun to compare.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk. <3

i need to flesh out tock's lore more cause theres a lot of stuff that sort of floats around about her that i dont know if i want to make canon to her or not but i do want something concrete. especially in regards to her and luka cause endwalker brought some tasty ideas forth
like i personally really like the general comcept of her and luka's footsteps being out of sync in terms of parallels between wol!luka and wol!tock but their paths still paralleling each other, since mags started playing this game much earlier than me, but since we experienced endwalker together they momentarily came really close to this sort of nebulous/metaphorical/magical idea of their worlds "touching" --- they exist in each others lore as non-wol counterparts (luka in tock's lore is just a catboy back home who likes to go fishing and isnt an adventurer, and tock in luka's lore is a dwarf on the first who wants to write music about luka's adventures since she herself cant leave kholusia), but even their wol selves are interconnected in a way
ultima thule is where they truly get to "meet" in a way --- i do however like the idea that their paths became one earlier in endwalker though, but it was in ultima thule that these two seperate universes could collide since ultima thule is a nest at the edge of the universe, so its here where two distinct worlds could only ever truly meet. and thats where the depiction starts of Tock sort of "feeling" someone here
even though i technically experienced ultima thule first irl, i like to imagine Tock hearing an echoe (for the song, Echoes in the Distance) of someone else walking alongside her, and a sort of metaphorical foot path she follows after this apparition (coming back to Footfalls), and it gets loudest at Base Omicron. I always played around with the idea that the graha tia in Tock's universe of Shadowbringers who gave his memories to Tock's Graha was in some way connected to Luka, so Shadowbringers was where Tock first felt this sensation of someone beside her, since Shadowbringers was the endgame when i started playing. Its nothing either of them are fully aware of, but Graha is one of the "bridges" between their two universes that is papee thin yet there
and of course at the walk up to the elpis flowers I think that sensation returns, and simce dynamis is what manipulates ultima thule and made these apparitions of others appear, that the little piece of wol!luka that exists in wol!tock's heart made his existence manifest to her side, not as his own person/recreation of him, but more like dynamis drew down that barrier that these two from colliding, yet neither were fully present --- Tock was still in her timeline and Luka in his, but in ultima thule their footfalls briefly lined up and the two becames, as they say, "close in the distance"--- and as Tock walked herself up the path to meteion, luka was doing the same in his own timeline, and they briefly walked together through the hardest and final test of their hope
From there the concept becomes fuzzy because i always try to keep tock and luka as wols seperated so i dont wanna step on mags own oc lore, since luka is not mine and hes got his own rich and complex meanings for endwalker and ultima thule, but sometimes i like to think about what it wouldve been like if in that moment of using the azem stone and standing before meteion Tock saw Luka, the true Luka, for the first time.
but this is all again not necessarily canon because mags is always putting crazy good thoughts in my head and due to not writing down my endwalker thoughts and how. OUGH endwalker is im always reworking these ideas and moments because ultimately all i need is to know that where tock walks is the same path luka walks and they both walk forward together even if they dont know it. Because to Tock Luka is a catboy back home she needs to return to because hes waiting for her return with a warm meal and to Luka Tock is a dwarf on another start he needs to return to because she'll have a new song for him. But little do they know they are so much more to each other in places close in the distance
