I see people get annoyed with the whole Team Peeta vs Team Gale thing going on when the books were coming out, but I offer you something new. I ship Everlark and prefer Peeta as both a character and a romantic interest because I am above all else, Team Katniss. Katniss is my top favorite character in the Hunger Games universe and I hold her up as one of the examples of one of the best written protagonists. When I say that I am Team Katniss, it means that I want her to be happy and I think that her being with Peeta romantically is something that would make her happy. I also support her cutting Gale out of her life when she realized that she couldn’t stand to be near him.

Can you believe they had the nerve, the gall, the gumption to cut when book Peeta says “You here to finish me off, sweetheart?”, one of the most iconic lines that established his flirty personality and cute banter with Katniss?? He’s literally in immense pain, dying from a leg injury, buried under a wall of mud that’s infecting the wound, and still has the energy to tease her. Not to mention the innuendo, come on.

a scene from the hunger games that gives me a good chuckle is at the end of the tribute parade when katniss goes to loosen her grasp on peeta’s hand and he tightens his and says “no. don’t let go of me. please. i might fall out of this thing.”

like that’s the most 16-year-old boy way to continue to hold your crush’s hand without telling her you have a crush on her. i absolutely love it.

so I didn't get into doing fanarts consistently until I was about 16, and my obsession peak for THG was between 11 and 15, so I must've done really few THG fanarts (and not very good ones at that) during my life despite it being a core part of my personality. So here's the first ever THG fanarts I upload to the internet, more that 10 years after first reading the saga. we became team peeta and anti team gale when peeta said "it's not fair to hold you for the things you said in the games. you said them to survive. you saved us."

that is the difference between peeta and gale. peeta went through them with her, and understands it was to keep them both alive. gale may not have seen it, but he basically refused that katniss said it was an act.

you picked the right man, good job katniss.

Katniss and Gale: took a long time for her to be friends with him, to trust him. Took months for her to return a smile at him. Only truly smiles with him if it’s in the woods.

Katniss and Peeta after less than 48 HOURS of meeting each other: laughing together. She smirks after she hears his laugh, and makes a jokes with him. Katniss BLUSHES AND FEELS WAMTTH WITHIN HERSELF when he compliments her.

I gotta be straight with y’all: in a story full of brutal maiming, unforgiving starvation, and scorched earth warfare, that R-i-i-i-p is probably the most real and painful thing to read for me. Every single time 😭 Being a dude, it’s a pain I also have the heavenly privilege of never knowing, which means it’s probably worse than I’m imagining 😬

It makes me feel even more for Katniss later on their Victory Tour. She’s absolutely fuming at the bullshit double standard of Peeta getting to sleep in AND keep his body hair while she has to be up early and stripped to the bone 😤 And she is so right for that. She even mentions how she actually liked the return of it 🥺 and they’re taking it away from her again 😠

This is why post-Mockingjay, I will accept nothing less than a Peeta Mellark who adores his furry-legged kitty. For one thing, he’s probably been checking out her legs since the sixth grade, hair and all. But more importantly, between now and the end of the story, he experiences probably the worst leg pain imaginable 😭 He sees no sense in being cruel to your legs, especially when you have the good fortune to still have two. He will kiss those hairy legs of hers every opportunity he gets. When Katniss speaks of them growing back together, there’s absolutely a literal component to it for me 🥰💚🧡

I had a post go viral about this but yeah I’m STILL not done talking about it.

Catching Fire is such a good book because you can really see all the pieces of the plan and how they were put together. How the arena was so clearly meant to strengthen Finnick in their attempt at rebellion and Plutarch pulled that off because he knew Finnick was Snow’s pick for a victor of that games. I absolutely love how subtly genius Plutarch really is, like he pulled off the entire rebellion through his manipulation of Snow and Snow’s need for power. I love the concept of the clock, how he gave the hint to Katniss, and how things like the lightning tree were placed purposely so they could be used in their plan. I mean truly the more I think about this book the more astonished I am at how beautiful the setup is. Plutarch’s plan was so flawless. Planting the idea of hand picking the tributes from previous victors so the quell to Snow was a way to rid himself of his strongest opposition (keeping Finnick, his most valuable asset amongst these victors); but to Plutarch he was assembling his perfect rebel alliance. Catching Fire is just an amazing work that I will think about forever.

I'm rewatching Catching Fire, and I just got done with the beach scene. So, when Peeta gives Katniss his gold medallion (that Effie had gifted him), we see that it has a locket with 3 frames with each frame carrying one picture to remind Katniss of her family (i.e., her mom, Prim, and Gale), of what she's fighting to go back to.

And it never fails to amaze me that Peeta uses the token Effie got him as a gift for Katniss. Like he uses it to put up pictures of the people he believes she loves the most. He uses it to benefit Katniss. It's as much a reminder for Peeta of what or whom he thinks are the most important people in Katniss' life and why he needs to get her out of that arena as a victor – other than the fact that he's always been in love with her – as it is for Katniss. The level of selflessness that Peeta exudes is just brilliantly moving. He's honestly the best kind of person to have in your corner.

Also, when Effie gives Haymitch and Peeta the tokens, while giving Peeta his, she makes it a point to say, "the medallion we talked about". So, you mean to tell me Peeta and Effie discussed it beforehand? And you mean to tell me that Peeta probably asked for that locket, of all things? Because he had it in his mind what he'd use it for? I mean, the thoughtfulness he put into this, God. There's a 99% chance that using it for Katniss wasn't just something he thought of after Effie gave him the medallion. He most probably (read: definitely) asked for it because he wanted Katniss to be able to remember why she needed to survive. And he added Gale's picture, too... I mean this boy is just so very pure and selfless and wholesome. When he loves, he loves unconditionally, and without looking for his own benefits.

God, I love Peeta Mellark.
