Small preview of some posts I’m doing theorizing on Ruby’s and Yang’s upcoming family drama in V10 and beyond:

Ever since Volume 1, the fact that ‘Yang raised Ruby’ has been a proverbial Sword of Damocles hanging over Team STRQ representing how they ALL completely and utterly FUCKED UP as parents to these two girls.

And I have no doubt that in Volume 10/11, we are going to see that proverbial sword fall.

Also the way they deliberately did not show Ruby until the rest of the team was fighting back... Weiss, Blake and Yang all get several concurrent shots as they backtrack, as their former selves offer the ultimatums, but it’s not until all three of them have risen above the idea of letting go do we finally see Ruby. On her knees. With her former self--arguably the least intimidating out of them all--looms above her. 

The only parallel they gave Ruby was the team’s victory vs her own defeat.

Ruby waits for her to be done breaking down over it and then just goes—

and then she tells Raven, Tai, and Qrow about the god damn Hound

Yang and Qrow co-parenting Bby Ruby as tai goes through his whole family mandated mental breakdown fills my every waking thought

Qrow is single handedly handling all of ozpins secret missions now so all of remnant is on his shoulders, that combined with all the death and general tragedy in his family there’s no way the second he gets a moment of peace with his nieces he doesn’t pass the fuck out

Yang is just doing her best as qrow is usually busy saving all of remnant for months at a time to be home

(Additional hc because they’re living of of assumably two teachers salaries, Ruby and Yang wear a lot of school merch they get for free, cause buying new clothes is expensive and a hassle Qrow doesn’t really have the time for, and Yang can’t reach the counters)

One of Hello Future Me's videos on revolution brought up an event from the Philippines back in the 80s: the dictator sent a battalion to crush a supposed revolt, only for the soldiers to be met with nuns and children offering food and water. The majority of the army defected as a result

I'm going to use rwby to try hammering this abstract concept into a coherent thought, but this incident got me thinking about how nonviolent protest is theater

If a similar event were to occur in rwby, for it to be successful, the protestors would have to be the cutesy faunus types: rabbits, cats, dogs, and the like because they're non-threatening. Attacking a sweet cat faunus would be akin to attacking a child or nun, paragons of innocence and virtue respectively. Only a monster could cut them down, and no one wants to be seen as a monster

A scorpion faunus, though? Their mere existence is a threat. That tail is dangerous, a weapon available at all times. Bull faunus have horns they can use to gouge out eyes and organs. Claim they attacked and most people would agree that killing them in self-defense is justified

Because nonviolent resistance relies on public perception, people who could possibly taint the image of the movement will get left in the dark no matter how important they are. Bayard Rustin was the one who taught Dr King about civil disobedience and was an organizer for many major events, but he opted to ride to events in the trunk of people's cars so his status as an openly gay man wouldn't harm the movement's image

There would be little wonder why the White Fang would be more popular with the "scarier" faunus. Public perception is already against them, so it's not going to change much for them if they join a violent organization, but this in turn will be seen as justification for discrimination against these types of faunus. A hellish self-perpetuating cycle

These faunus would also be far more likely to experience violence at a much younger age, akin to how black children are treated as adults even if they're literally six years old

The strategy behind nonviolent protest like the ones Dr King did is to show the world the mistreatment of the innocent, but when your existence is deemed a threat, there's little hope that you'll ever get enough support to change the system. This is why bigots constantly spew the "queer groomer" and black crime "statistics": by portraying someone's freedom as a danger to the innocent, any level of violence is justifiable defense. The police aren't attacking queers, black, and brown folk discriminately, they're attacking dangerous criminals, so it's okay!!1!

I just realized: The whole angle of "the Curious Cat was leading Team RWBY to their deaths" doesn't work, really.

The Cat didn't want to go to the tree in the first place. Team RWBY were the ones who insisted on being taken there and bribed and manipulated the Cat into being their guide.

Where do they get off acting like the Cat betrayed them?

If Team RWBY'd gone to the tree and ascended, it would have been their own damn fault, they were the ones deadset on strong-arming every Afteran they met into taking them there.

I finished V1 of rwby. I really wanted to like weiss i watched it for her I’m sure she changes drastically but UUGHHH shut !!! UP !!!! I love Blake Yang Sun and Pietra and im also pissed tf off the ugly evil man’s name is Roman im chjanging my fuckign name again istg. also ruby is annoying ik she’s literally a baby but girl shut up!!! she is funny at times though
