Restaurant Review: Tea Funny Not so Funny

I was on my search for restaurants to review on Centre Street North in Calgary.There was a Middle Eastern Restaurant I wanted to try but it was under renovation for the week. I wandered on a bit farther and found Tea Funny which advertised food and drinks and it was open and busy. I sat down at a table and noticed each table had an iPad built into the table. The decor was colourful bright and comfortable. They even had some interesting light fixtures.

I opened the iPad and scrolled through the pages of food and drinks. Since it was 5pm I wanted something dinner like. I noticed the menu at Tea Funny had Bento Boxes. There was buttons on top of the menu to have the server paged to your table, and I had a few questions. 

The server came over and I found out you just entered your order there. She helped with that but when it came to the Bento Boxes she had never tried any of them and couldn’t really recommend one. I decided on the Chicken teriyaki and a green tea. We will see how it all turns out.

The green tea was very flowery, flavourful, and came in a really large cup. Then my terakyi Bento box was delivered to the table. I started with the spring rolls which were hot and greasy. Then had a couple mouth fulls of the chicken but it tasted like it had been cooked two days ago. It tasted old and reheated with sauce poured over it. I stopped eating it. I then drizzled the terakyi sauce over the rice and ate a bit of it. The mixed greens came with an Asian dressing that tasted okay. After I finished what I could the server inquired why I didn’t eat the rest of my meal. I told her how I thought the chicken tasted old. She smiled and nodded.

I would only give Tea Funny 5 out of 10 and if I was to go back maybe only ordering deep fried dishes.
