assorted twitter threads

I wanted to archive some of my MAMIYA headcannon/au threads from twitter! Just in case, like, twitter decides to collapse or something. EXTREMELY Natsume/Mamiya-centric. Some of these were made before DDD came out. Spoilers for DDD!

Soulmates AU (October 2021)

i don't like soulmates au much but the idea of natsume dying without finding his soulmate but then finding out post-df that it's . mamiya. i might die o(-<

i don't know what does on in DDD but i'm just gonna sayyy yumehisa's scarf gets ripped off during a fight and natsume sees a matching soulmark on yumehisa's neck . i think this works

btw i looked kkrtn's latest fanbox and i am no longer alive. me typing this rn is just inertia. my soul has departed this world [editing note: the fanbox post i was losing my mind over turned out to be one of the EX cgs]

Natsume was looking forward to meeting his soulmate, and when he become a spectator he felt devastated that he wouldn't be able to meet them. As he helped his friends in df, he held out hope his soulmate was out there somewhere & the thought comforted him as much as his friends

But then he sees a mark that matches his own exactly on his worst enemy, and suddenly he has to question the nature of soulmates.... Something like that!!

Typically spectators keep their soulmate marks after death (it is a SOUL mark after all), but because of the loss of memories, they don't tend to remember or dwell too much on soulmates. Natsume remembers so he's more attached to his mark than is typical

Keito and ryou are soulmates

Haruki and minato are not soulmates--their soulmates are mayuri and touma 🥴🥴

[editing note: at the time i had them paired haruki-mayuri and minato-touma, but thinking about it now, i think haruki-touma and minato-mayuri could work too! haruki and touma having a familial soulbond would make their falling out hurt so much more... mayuri's betrayal would have similar effects on minato]

Samejima does not have a soul mark

Arisugawa... probably his soulmate is ryou's mom (puts my face in my hands)

Am just realizing mamiya has his neck obscured in all his forms, which works perfectly for this soulmate au bc even if what he looks like changes, yumehisa's soul is still the same = whatever form he takes, his soulmark is still on his neck

Mundane AU (September 2021)

imagining mamiya "everyone's safe" au where natsume and yumehisa go on horrible dates that keep ending in someone almost dying

(they are not dates. natsume is just sus of yumehisa and follows him around to keep an eye on him, and yumehisa keeps play-flirting with natsume to annoy him into leaving)

a nebulous au where natsume/ryou/minato go to one school, yumehisa/touma/mayuri go to another, and keito attends a third. "how does haruki factor into this" oh fuck oh shit-- um he's a second year at keito's school

shuffling between "minato and yumehisa are twins who go to different schools" and "minato (2nd year) and yumehisa (3rd year) are completely unrelated strangers" [editing note: WELL, I KNOW WHICH ONE I'D GO WITH NOW]

Samejima and arisugawa both work at yumehisa/mayuri/touma's school (as teachers or staff? idk). Keito's dad also works there as a teacher which is how keito and samejima know each other

The school's color is pink!! Keito's lacrosse team has played against them before & the team likes to refer to them as "that pink school", so keito tends to call it that as well. Haruki picks up the habit bc it pisses touma off & it ends up catching on within their friend group

Haruki & keito met through humorous circumstances i have not yet fully developed, but the important bit is that they continue being friends & hanging out because haruki is concerned his kouhai is gonna die or join a pyramid scam if he leaves keito on his own

Otaku AU (October 2021)

Natsume & Mamiya met online on an anime discussion forum and became good friends. Then they coincidentally, unknowingly went to the same irl akihabara meetup and got into a ten-minute screaming argument over who in high school dxd was best girl

(They are both unaware that the other guy and their online friend are the same person bc they did not introduce each other at the time) Later natsume goes to hang out with his pal haruki and they run into [redacted] who is hanging out with... yumehisa

This time they are properly introduced, and then while touma chastises haruki for playing around, natsume and yumehisa manage to get into yet another argument over whether sao is trash or not (natsume is a resolute kiriasu shipper)

They keep running into each other at akihabara and other places going like "Natsume-kuuun...." "Mamiya Yumehisa!!!!" and then spending absurd lengths of time arguing over anime

At one point, they both find themselves going to the same showing of eva 3.0 and there's only a few seats left open so they begrudgingly get seats next to each other. After the movie they both have Thoughts, so they end up discussing the movie for hours & even get dinner together

And then they swap numbers... and they start actually hanging out on purpose even though they still spend most of their time arguing lol

Lacrosse AU (December 2023)

i have some different houghts about yumehisa's background in this au but idk if i'm 100% in love with any of them... either he's in the foster care system or his parents are divorced [this way, he and minato can still be twins while having different last names. it is important that they have different last names so that natsume can still yell MAMIYA YUMEHISA]. either way he grows up pretty lonely and bonds to his first friend, keito, HARD

what if they're all on the lacrosse team. then what.

i'm looking up lacrosse positions. what do you mean some guys get to use a six foot lacrosse stick. anyway...

school A: natsume, touma, minato, ryou

school B: keito, yumehisa, haruki, mayuri

ryou plays attack and keito plays defense so they have a lot of faceoffs<3

Touma is a long stick midfielder so he can use a big stick while on offense. Minato is on defense and often gets underestimated because of his stature.

Haruki is a goalie because he has goalie vibes. Mayuri is the team manager

Natsume and yumehisa are both midfielders but they are absolutely not allowed to play against each other bc the first time it happened, natsume completely ignored the ball and just started bodychecking yume and then ten minutes later they were hitting each other with their sticks

Coach Arisugawa: youre usually such a good sportsman, wanna explain what that was? Natsume: Idk what happened I just got really angry for some reason. It won't happen again *Arisu puts him back on the field* *Natsume beelines for Yumehisa again and Arisu immediately yells for a sub*

(School B's coach is, of course, Samejima. Keito's father is the head of the school)

keito and ryou have like a gay sports anime rivalry going on but natsume and yumehisa are literally out for blood. when they are on the field against each other it is not a sports anime, it is an action-thriller

Otaku AU part 2 (December 2023)

Suddenly having very strong thoughts on Natsume and Mamiya otaku au

Okay lacrosse au takes place in current day but otaku au specifically takes place in 2012. Because we all know that if Natsume was in the 2020s he would be hopelessly addicted to ten different gacha games

Yumehisa is a Gundam fan (favorite series is Turn A, has seen most of UC Gundam, watched 00 weekly and feels positively about it, hates Wing and SEED). He gets a part-time job specifically to afford gunpla. Lockon x Tieria was a formative ship for him

Natsume is a moe fan (grew up watching Cardcaptor Sakura, adores Lucky Star and Hidamari Sketch, anime of the decade was K-On (Azusa stan)). Watches/reads CLAMP but only the ones with cute girls

He's really bad at playing Touhou but goes to Reitaisai every year to look at Sakuya doujinshi. The type to start lining up for Comiket five hours before it starts

He watched Madoka Magica from week 1 because he loooves Ume Aoki's art and was completely caught off guard by Mami's death

If this au was set in 2023 Natsume and Yumehisa would both love Gundam Witch From Mercury (albeit for different reasons)

(Yumehisa being a mecha fan is because he shows interest in space with Touma) Yumehisa will generally watch anything with mecha but he likes scifi in general and stuff that's depressingly dark. Thinks Bokurano is art. Hates moe (lol)

Beach Episode!!! (December 2023)

[if you haven't heard--Kokoroten announced they were adding new what-if episodes, unlockable after DDD!]

Ohhh it would be so nice if the new DDD scenarios took place in the summer. Natsume finally reached summer

Probably wont happen since kokoroten would have to draw new sprites LMAO but it would be cute. Would be crazy to be able to finally see these people's bare arms

Beach episode:

Keito: knee-length trunks with pineapple print Ryou: thigh-length plain orange trunks (clearance) Haru: black speedo he got from a girlfriend + hawaiian shirt Minato: green compression trunks + hawaiian shirt Natsume: knee-length trunks with a neon shark print + white tshirt Yumehisa: black and green diving suit

Yumehisa tries to wear his scarf to the beach and it gets sand/seawater/birdshit/everything in it and then he almost gets heat stroke when he tries to wear it + the diving suit when the gang is playing beach volleyball

Natsumes wearing a tshirt because he's shy about going shirtless in public but then he gets into the water and. I mean it's a white tshirt, natsume. It gets wet and becomes transparent and he almost starts crying. So then haruki gives him his hawaiian shirt to wear

Ryou and keito absolutely destroy everyone else at beach volleyball with their gay homo psychic jock soul bond so they're not allowed to be on the same team anymore

Mayuri: maroon bikini with a high waist. Puts her hair up in a bun Touma: blue trunks + matching blue swim shirt Arisugawa: swim trunks with palm tree pattern Samejima: cotton pants + cotton shirt & button up (not going in the water)

Sammy goes beach fishing, ropes touma and mayuri into it, and then ryou too once he and keito are done playing volleyball. Touma and mayu are too squeamish to get the fish off the hooks, but ryou does that + helps sammy gut the fish later

Something about arisu and haruki picking up chicks together. I dunno.

Minato and midori go beach combing and midori finds something insane like an actual live horseshoe crab. Samejima tries to be like ^_^ Do you think i could have that (to eat) but midori releases it into the ocean instead

[btw midori is wearing a dark green t-shirt with an photorealistic picture of a fish printed on it + red boy's swim trunks. minato is sad he couldn't get her to wear something cuter... or even less tacky]

Mayuri sunbathing, halfway asleep. Hears screaming and splashing in the distance. Cracks her eyes open, lowers her $300 Gucci sunglasses. Watches as touma tries to drown haruki in the ocean. Puts her sunglasses back on, goes back to sleep

Pink House ideas discussed with a friend in the replies:

me: i dont think the beach episode whatif will happen. but my god do i wish it would

them: it happened in MY HEART. but for real im hoping for a Christmas one... in the veins of the valentine what if....

me: I'M HOPING FOR THIS AS WELL. personally i'm hoping that pink house + yume have a christmas hotpot party. Everyone keeps trying to give yume more food. And samejima keeps adding weird ingredients into the pot

them: pulling out all the veggies. niigaki wants to see if hes still as good in cards as he was before

me: Yume and touma disappearing for a few days and when they get back they're just like yeah we took a boat into the ocean to stargaze. Pretty cool

them: samejima immediately takes yume on a trip

me: Samejima looking at yumehisa with the saddest 🥺 expression a person can make with his eyes closed and going "mamiyaaa" and then yume smiles and dumps another bucket of water over him

them: AWWWWW T______T yes. and makes samejima admit he likes being treated like this, then gives him such a genuine smile he can't be mad..... then leave him alone again. touma ends unburrowing him

Reverse AU (December 2023)

considering souichirou's fate + how natsume ended up in EX, i think it's possible that antagonist natsume would be a yandere obsessed with mamiya lol. i definitely think that he would take the 3000 years a LOT worse than yumehisa

“QRT with your headcanon” Twitter Thread: Miyasaka Ryou (+ Reika?)

Original thread. Final Twitter translation for now.

To this day, I keep thinking about Miyasaka's profile... How he learns both braile and sign language JUST because he wants to talk to others regardless of their disabilities...

I'll say it right away, but it makes me rather sad this aspect of his is often ignored. Yes, we get it, he really likes Kazemaru and all, but come on! A lot of 80% of Miyasaka's fanon content focus so much on that even to this day, and it is kind of sad.

So, I'd like to propose something different: While Miyasaka kept doing athletics for the rest of High School, as an adult he pursues a job at a local Special Education school. Regardless if as a teacher or a sports coach, I'll leave that to personal interpretation. All he wants is for every children to be able to have a happy future no matter what ;_;

He also tries to promote the education of the special languages mentioned earlier; as to make the kids who use them feel more comfortable on their respective enviroments.

Now, as for something more romantic... I might like him with Kazemaru and all, but I also really like the concept of him being with Reika.

Not sure if she could be a co-worker of his given her family's importance back at Osaka, but it's still cute for me honestly.

This doesn't mean that I don't like KazeMiya as endgame however. I love them too! And if not, then maybe I could propose... Poly KazeMiyaReika? Inspired by @ // justdancermidoritaka's Next Gen AU 👀

In the British Bakura au one of the few victims Bakura has shadowed game was an English teacher Ryou accidentally pissed off in his old school be cause of the way they were teaching English the wrong way and trying to pass it off as the right way to speak or read English Ryou tried to correct them in the process only for them to humiliate him after class because they felt threatened that a Native speaker would obviously be better than them and thought he was trying to show off. In turn the teacher threatened to leave a bad grade in his report card only for Bakura to shadow game them and fall into a coma this in turn left a mark in Ryou record alongside other kids he befriended and when he transferred to Domino high school Mr. Karita remarks about that incident to him all while threatening Ryou to cut his hair all while denouncing his status as a troublesome foreigner who seduces all the girls

Kimichika, The Last Herald-Mage (a 2.43×Valdemar AU)

A series set in Valdemar and based off of the Last Herald-Mage trilogy by Mercedes Lackey, although less off actual canon and more off my vague 16-y.o. recollections and misrememberings and the story my brain crafted of what happens later before I actually reread past the first book.

This is a glossary of sorts of the characters and terms that appear in the series, as well as some background on the characters—including what’s different from 2.43 canon, and what’s different from The Last Herald Mage canon.

Characters:

An overview of the characters, in more or less the order their Last Herald-Mage counterparts show up.

Kimichika is Vanyel. Like Van, he had some idea that he was different growing up, but not that being shay’a’chern (homosexual) was a thing, much less that there was a word for it, much less that it applied to him. Music is one of his few escapes and he dreamed of becoming a Bard growing up. His father is Kiminobu, and his mother is Lily, named after his mother in 2.43, since she probably won’t be much like Van’s mother Treesa. (I also don’t know yet what—if anything—to call the Japanese characters in this since it’s not like canon nonwhite characters are called anything either unless they’re outKingdom. But their names aren’t in the language of Valdemar, so I feel like I need something…) He has most all of the Gifts that it is possible for one to have, violently awakened due to the trauma of losing his lifebonded, Yuni, and he grows into the most powerful Herald-Mage that Valdemar may have ever seen, and indeed one of the most powerful Gifted individuals currently alive.

Subaru is Radevel, the one cousin who understands Chika and is on his side, and who later becomes armsmaster of Forst Reach. Depending on if I give Chika an older sister, he may also more or less play Lissa’s role.

Sae is really just Savil, Van’s paternal aunt, with a Japanese name. She studied with the Tayledras and is considered a Wingsister by them, and she teachers her trainees (namely, Yuni and Chika) their language as well. She’s one of the top Herald-Mages and is one of the ones who mainly remains at Haven to instruct trainees.

Ibara and Akito are Donni and Mardic, the lifebonded Herald-Mage trainees studying under Sae with Yuni. I just wanted these two in here too tbh

Yuni is Tylendel, Chika’s first love and lifebonded, and basically the darling of the Heraldic Academy and the High Court while he’s alive. Their age difference is no more than a few months more than in 2.43. Though he had some inkling, he didn’t know he was shay’a’chern until he and Chika figured out their attraction together, though he did know the word as he was also learning the Tayledras language under Sae. Itoko is his twin with whom he’s shared a bond since birth, and it’s her assassination that makes him half mad with grief and leads to his suicide and Chika coming into his Gifts.

Ryou is Nevis, though since Yuni didn’t know he was shaych yet, Ryou didn’t break his heart, but rather they were close friends and had a falling-out (and, yeah, maybe broke his heart, even if Yuni didn’t fully recognize it yet).

Starwind and Moondance are the same who appear in TLHM; since the Tayledras have their own naming system, I didn’t want to supplant them. They’re Tayledras mages who are lifebonded and lovers. They taught Sae node magic and later teach Chika the same and help him heal and learn to control his Gifts after all the channels of his potential were violently ripped open. Moondance is not Tayledras by birth, but rather was taken in by them at age 16 after accidentally killing his lover and nearly himself too after being cast out for being shay’a’chern, and he subsequently took on a Tayledras name. Though Starwind is significantly older than him in TLHM, he’s only a couple years older than him in this (I’m not having any 30-somethings fucking any teenagers, the hell).

Kei (Haikyuu!!) is Medren, Chika’s favorite nephew and his younger brother’s bastard son. He’s a Bard and is Misao’s roommate for several years at the Collegium. Unlike Medren, though, he’s shaych (or possibly bi, I haven’t decided—though there isn’t a word for that in-universe because Lackey is/was biphobic), and he and Misao have a short romantic relationship. They remain best friends even after they break it off.

Misao is Stefen, a Bard with all three Bardic Talents as well as one that allows him to use music to ease his audience’s pain. He’s Yuni’s reincarnation and was born the day after his death, making him Kei’s age. His relationship with Chika is rather abrasive at first on both ends before he starts to warm toward and fall for Chika despite Chika’s rather futile efforts not to get close. They lifebond, though they’re not lovers, and Misao’s the only one whose feelings aren’t purely platonic.

Terms:

Some terms and worldbuilding aspects for those who haven’t read The Heralds of Valdemar or for whom it’s been a while.

Many people are born with Gifts or Talents (and though they seem like magic, only the Mage-Gift is actual magic), which usually become active around the age of about 6-10 or, more often, remain dormant as potential (and can awaken later in life such as through trauma). Most Gifted people only have one or two Gifts, but Chika has all of them but for the Bardic Gift, and all of those but Healing strong. The Bardic Gift allows listeners to experience rather than just listen to every word of a ballad sung—one can also use their Gift while speaking to manipulate people, like a silvertongue, but use of one’s Gift is forbidden in the Circle except in certain situations (performance; helping others; Monarch’s orders). Anyone may be a minstrel, but to become a Bard, one must meet at least two of the three requirements: Gift, Talent (the ability to play), and Creativity (the ability to compose).

Heralds are Gifted individuals who have been Chosen by a Companion and then are trained in their Gifts and combat at the Heraldic Academy in Haven, the capital of Valdemar; they protect as well as rule the Kingdom, and have since its founding. Herald-Mages are merely those who have the Mage-Gift, and they’re relatively rare. Bards and Healers don’t usually specifically get Chosen to become Heralds, but those are Gifts that a Herald may have in addition to their other(s). Bards are also trained in Haven, at the Bardic Collegium, and Healers are trained in Haven as well, though I don’t know what their school is called. The formal attire of full Heralds is white, Healers green, and Bards red.

One with the Mindspeech Gift may use it only with others who also have it, but Companions may Bespeak anyone they choose to, though as per their own rules, they avoid any unnecessary use of their abilities (otherwise they’d be pretty OP lol). When using Mindspeech, it is impossible to lie directly, though it is still possible, if difficult, to lie by omission. Nuance and intention are more easily conveyed through Mindspeech than regular speech, as they color one’s mental voice and sort of impress upon the listener. (Thus, Chika, being autistic, generally prefers to use Mindspeech when possible.)

Companions are sentient magical beings who look like pure-white horses with eyes of sapphire, and though they may look like horses, they don’t much appreciate being compared to them. They usually form bonds very similar to lifebonds with their Chosen. Unlike lifebonds, though, these may be repudiated. They communicate with each other and their Chosen (and, rarely, others) through Mindspeech. Yfandes is Chika’s companion; Yuni’s was Gala.

Lifebonds are rare, and they’re essentially soulmates; the lifebond forms after the two have forged a deep connection. Pairs who share a lifebond or similar can “feel” each other, communicate, and share energy/power through the link. When one dies, the other is usually not long behind, whether driven to suicide or simply pining away from the grief of having lost a part of oneself. After the bond is formed, on some deep level, they are one: two separate beings who share the same soul. I think in-universe, lifebonds are exclusively romantic, but eh

The Tayledras (known in Valdemar as the Hawkbrothers) are a silver-haired, blue-eyed people who live in the lands west of Valdemar. Their mages specialize in node magic, while the majority of Valdemarian mages can’t even sense nodes, much less use them. It is due to all Tayledras’ close relationship with the nodes and their power that their hair and eyes are virtually colorless; anyone who uses the nodes eventually has their hair and eyes bleached as well, and the more they use it the faster it happens, like Moondance, Sae, and Chika, who all go completely white within a couple decades. The Tayledras’ priority is the land and its health, and they rarely allow in outsiders or venture outside their territory. Sae and Chika are among those rare few. “Shay’a’chern” is the Tayledras word for for “homosexual,” and as the Valdemarian tongue doesn’t have a word for it, it eventually makes its way into the language as the slang word “shaych.” “Ke’chara” and “ashke” are both Tayledras words translating to “beloved,” though “ashke” seems to be reserved for lovers while “ke’chara” is platonic. “Shay’kreth’ashke” is their word for “lifebonded.” (”Shay” means “self.”)

Sovvan seems to align with Halloween and Día de los Muertos; it also marks the new year, or at least the end of the current year (it could be that spring marks the new year, like how on old Earth calendars, there were no months during winter; it was just nothing). Sovvan-night is a night of celebrating the harvest and remembering the dead of the year past, and many traditions hold that the Otherworld is closer on this night than any other.

I have considered alternate duels for the Seven Stars and this is at least one way I would do it. (I have other ways for various AUs). But for a basic rewrite. I would do this:

Asuka vs Darkness (Asuka wins, because she needs to rescue her brother)

Camula vs Chronos (Camula wins, because she's just a better duelist than he is and he's honestly terrified of her)

Camula vs Ryou (Camula wins, because she threatens Shou)

Camula vs Asuka (Asuka wins, because she's furious that Camula doll-ified her teacher and her friend. She can leave Fubuki's side for half an hour)

Misawa vs Taniya (Taniya wins because Misawa isn't nearly ready to duel her and he needs some serious maturity that he won't get if he doesn't lose to her)

Taniya vs Asuka (Asuka wins because she's ace as hell and Taniya's romantic tactics don't work on her. But they do end up respecting one another because they're both very strong duelists) Juudai vs Abidos (Juudai hasn't dueled at all yet, he needs his turn)

Juudai vs Kagemaru (even though Asuka has won four of the seven duels, it's Juudai who has the gift of talking to spirits in the strength that Kagemaru needs)

Yes, I do rather like Asuka and think she should have had a larger role.

I really think that yugioh gx first season could have been way much better if they didn't use Jaden in every single duel. There were 7 key protectors and 7 Shadow riders but the side characters almost never had the chance to prove themselves. This is how I would have fixed it:

Evil Atticus vs Alexis. She wins.

Camula vs Zane. He loses to save Syrus but then he is avenged by Dr. Crowler, who fucking obliterates her since she hurt one of his students. (Yes, I'm still pissed at that duel, Crowler could have won in a single turn with the right cards but no, he is never allowed to win any important duels.)

Bastion vs Tania. He wins.

Prof. Banner vs the ancient pharaoh. He wins.

Chazz's duel is ok since he wins.

Zane vs Titan. He wins.

Jaden vs Amnel. He wins and faces the final duel.

These duels would have made the outcome not so predictable, would have given all the key keepers an important role and also they would have helped mask Amnel's identity.

In the original episodes, they could have simple given all the keys to Jaden, since he never loses against the enemies (that's why I skipped most of his duels, too boring)

(Okay I know I promised no more emo shit but this one is the last one I SWEAR.

Not roommates au but a different au I thought up a while ago where the Millenium Items are gone but Bakura and Atem are still with their respective hosts.)

"I'm not going."

Not going?! After all the fuss you made every day about how 'we have to go to school', 'I have to graduate and get out of this place', all the times I had to drop my plans?

"Please, Bakura, you never dropped your plans for anything." Ryou sighed, sitting on the edge of his bed. "But I'm not going. If I go, I'll just spend the entire time fielding weird looks from everyone who will wonder how I'm graduating with how much I was gone." And he certainly didn't feel like explaining that he had pathetically murmured his way through half-lying explanations for his absences and missed assignments to teachers who had listened sympathetically, nodding along as he awkwardly stammered, some offering encouraging pats on the shoulder as they agreed to allow him to pass their classes so he could graduate.

He wanted to blame Bakura for the missed time - but he couldn't. Plenty of his absences fell on days he had full control, and there had been exceedingly few times Ryou hadn't passively gone along with whatever Bakura had going on at the moment. It was easier, somehow, than trying to deal with normal life.

Your friends will miss you.

"Since when have you cared about that?"

Come on, now. I've always cared about you having friends. Do you remember how many people I trapped in tabletop minis so you could have friends?

"Oh, right. I forgot, you thought that was helpful."

Got you the friends you have now, didn't it?

"No, it didn't."

Come on, you would never have talked to them again if our little Monster World escapades hadn't happened, and you know it.

"...Fine, maybe. Still, I don't feel well, and I'll get all the papers in the mail later anyhow."

I could go for you.

"No. Bad idea. Very bad. No one even knows you're still here."

I'll be good! I can do a very good 'you'. Ryou could practically feel Bakura's gleeful grin forming at the back of his mind. Hello guys, it's lovely to see you all again! Look at us, we survived high school! Isn't this just smashing?

"I do not sound like that. You're awful at pretending to be me."

You do. Maybe you're just awful at pretending to be happy.

Ryou drew in a breath. Bakura had developed a nasty habit of sprinkling genuinely astute insights into the inane nonsense he usually spoke, and it had only gotten worse since the Ring was gone and Zorc was no longer holding him back.

"Fine. Maybe I am--"

Ryou felt the familiar tug-at-the-back-of-the-neck feeling he always did, and found himself suddenly watching from within himself.

"Besides," Bakura said as he went about preparing to leave, "I want to see Marik later. I haven't seen him since all that business in Egypt happened. He's back in Domino, isn't he?"

...Yes. I meant to tell him you were here, but...

"But you've been too busy moping in your apartment. No more! Off we go."

Ryou passively observed as Bakura made his way out of the apartment to the bus stop, where he boarded and headed for the back of the bus. It seemed he was planning on behaving.

Ryou noticed a few of his classmates were on the bus as well, watching from where they sat. They peered curiously at him, but it somehow felt less hostile and piercing than the last time he had been stared at. He would never have admitted it, not in a million years, but there was some strange sense of safety and comfort watching the world from behind Bakura's control.

They arrived to the graduation late - it had just started when Bakura hurried in through the doors of the auditorium and found his seat near the back of the room. Ryou listened as the ceremony proceeded, a faint guilt eating at him as he thought about the fact that he probably should not have been here, finishing high school with the rest of his classmates who had worked hard and done their assignments and attended their classes.

He lifted his eyes and looked ahead. He could see Joey, Tristan, and Téa... and Yugi, standing up to walk up to the stage. He remembered, then, that Yugi was the valedictorian... and the guilt bored through him even deeper.

Can we go home now?

"Come on now, we're almost done," Bakura whispered under his breath.

Ryou listened through Yugi's speech, wishing he was anywhere else. It was a good speech - a great speech. Yugi cared about all of his friends, and he was genuinely happy that they'd all made it to the end of this together, and it showed. He was a good friend - better than Ryou deserved.

Finally, the entire affair was over - and Ryou felt Bakura starting to step over toward the door, but then his course abruptly changed.

What are you doing? It's over, let's go--

"I'm making sure you keep your friends around," Bakura huffed aas he made a beeline to the place where Yugi stood with his friends. "Again. The right way this time."

Before Ryou could object, he was standing before his friends - and Bakura had forced him back in control.

Yugi glanced over to him, and his eyes widened. "Oh, Ryou! You're here! I didn't see you before."

Ryou grimaced. "I got in a little late..."

Yugi smiled warmly, reaching out to grab his arm and tug him closer to where everyone else stood. Ryou wanted to resist, but he followed along. "That's okay, I'm glad you're here. We're going back to the shop... I thought maybe we could order a pizza, and play some games. Would you like to come?"

Ryou took a breath, readying himself to make his excuses, but he looked up to see Joey, Tristan, and Téa looking at him with expectant smiles. There was none of the judgement or revulsion he thought he had seen in their gazes before... and he was starting to wonder if perhaps it had never been there at all.

He smiled. "Yes. That sounds wonderful."

i'm also analyzing clothes, but it's what the teachers wear. most staff seem to wear the blue uniform or variants on it (chronos/crowler is a good example), but the head of yellow wears a yellow uniform. So I assumed the non blue heads wore appropriate uniforms, but daitokuji/banner, the head of red, doesn't wear a school uniform at all, just a shirt and pants. On top of that, the headmaster seems to have his own outfit, and store staff have a designated uniform of their own.

It's weird.

I don’t think having a white-with-accents uniform signifies anything in GX. I thought it might be for upperclassmen when Zane showed up, but Alexis and both her friends wear them and as far as I can tell she’s in Jaden’s year. I doubt it’s for high performers because Chumley wears one and characters like Chazz and Bastion don’t. I think it’s probably just a fashion choice. Will continue to observe to see if I can find any patterns.

Malik is in the martial arts club and apart of the school’s delinquent group

Malik is very protective of Malika

She hangs out with her brother’s gang a lot so people know to leave her alone

One day Malika found out that her brother had a crush on Ryou so she recruited Yoru to set them up together

That was the first time they became acquainted

Yoru at first was reluctant to join Malika, but she ended up being swayed by the promise of free lunch for the entire school year

Through out the school year getting Ryou and Malik to become an item became a kind of hobby for them

They spent almost every day together, coming up with new ways to get their brothers to date

Eventually Yoru ended up getting a crush of her own 👀

And even after Ryou and Malik became a couple they still ended up hanging out together

They’re basically dating without realising it

At this point they reached a point where their brothers are trying to set them up

[fanfic] Fantasy of Magic

I am not going to do this. Shou stared at the twelve levels of school above him. He hardly believed that he'd made it in here in the first place. The entrance exam for the Enchanted Academy was one of the hardest in the world. Finding out he'd actually earned a place made him wonder if someone had set a deception curse on him - it certainly wouldn't be the first time.

But his parents proudly bought him everything that he needed, and now he stood out here, slowly ascending the stairs, certain that any moment now, one of those teachers would declare that he clearly had no talent at all and with a flick of a hand would toss him from these hallowed halls. So far no one seemed to be inclined to do that. Other new students surged past him, chattering among themselves, and none of them appeared to notice Shou even existed at all.

A figure ahead of him caught his eye - tall and forbidding, with an aura of being utterly flawless. Or maybe that was just because he knew who this was. His elder brother strode along on some incalculable errand, not even granting Shou a minor glance. Shou followed him with his eyes for a few moments, holding back a deep sigh.

I bet he doesn't even know that I'm here. Ryou would probably one day be the Grand Arch-mage, the greatest of all those who used magic. Shou thought he'd be lucky if he made it as a low level sorcerer, at best. Though he wouldn’t mind being a researcher or a librarian. His great-grandfather had been a very well-known magical researcher and someone had to keep track of where the library books were.

Shou forged his way up the stairs, ignoring how other students flew by under their own power or floated by on the family magical carpets or whatever other devices they'd brought with them. He wasn't the only one who was walking - though he did stop and stare for a few moments at one student who flew by perched on a massive dragon, laughing at the top of his lungs.

Most of the first day he never remembered all the details of. There wasn't much to remember anyway. He was assigned a room - it turned out his roommate was the guy with a dragon, and the dragon could turn into a person and that was a lot more interesting than he'd ever thought it would be - and the list of his classes would appear in the morning, or so he was told. He took the time to stack all of his books and scrolls and get his pens sorted out, before his new roommate grabbed his arm.

"You're Shou, right?" The dragon-rider asked, bright brown eyes sparkling at him. "Come on, let's explore this place! I'm Juudai!" He waved a hand at the dragon-person, who even as a person looked a lot like a mixture of dragon and demon, with broadly spreading wings and a stern look in all three of their eyes. "That's Yubel."

Shou blinked as the dots connected in his mind. "Prince Juudai?" He'd heard a lot of stories about the prince and his companion dragon. When Juudai nodded, already tugging him towards the door again, Shou tried to bow his head. "Your Highness!"

But Juudai just shook his head. "You can call me Juudai. Come on! Don't you want to get to know this place? We're going to be here for years! We don't want to get lost."

Shou guessed that was true. The idea of turning down the prince's request fluttered through his mind, but not very strongly, as he followed the other out into the corridor. Yubel followed as well, and Shou couldn't shake the feeling that the dragon didn't approve of him. But he kept his mouth shut and let Prince Juudai lead the way.

For all that this was an unofficial tour so they could get to know the area, Shou remembered very little of it. Part of him was still exhausted from the long trip to get here in the first place. The Enchanted Academy had been situated on an island in the middle of he ocean. Getting here required either the ability to fly, be it by magic or magic devices, or teleport, or a vessel of some kind. He'd hired a spot on a simple boat and taken the long way. From how Juudai babbled, he'd flown with Yubel that morning, while his luggage was transported over via magic.

Shou didn't bother talking about himself. He knew himself pretty well, and he doubted that someone like Prince Juudai would be even remotely interested in what his life was like or what he wanted it to be like. Besides, even if he managed to make it as a researcher or librarian, what would the prince want to do with him? Juudai, he quickly gathered, would make friends with moss on the walls, let alone someone like him. So he wasn't special in any way. Juudai would have done this to whoever ended up being his roommate.

One part of their wanderings did end up sticking out in his mind, though. Shou couldn't have said where they were. All the corridors and rooms and everything else blended together as they wandered around. But he turned a corner, trying to find Juudai, who'd wandered a little ahead of him. He didn't want to be lost in the Academy in general - rumors had it people who got lost here were eaten by shadows or never seen again or sometimes eaten by their own lunch - but being lost on the first day, before classes even began, seemed a bit bad even for him.

A door he'd barely noticed opened up and someone darted out, a merry trill of laughter following them. Shou tried to stop but they crashed into him a breath later, sending him stumbling back. He squawked in surprise, grabbing onto the nearest wall, and struggled to keep to his feet. The other person was a little taller than he was, with a long waterfall of brilliant gold hair, Then he spied equally brilliant blue eyes, and the sparkle in them sent chills all through him, of a kind he'd never experienced before.

"Sorry about that!" The stranger chirped, straightening herself out. "See you around!" She waved briefly before darting down the hallway and vanishing from sight. Shou wasn't sure if she really turned invisible, teleported, or just turned down the hallway so he couldn't see her. He stared after her, swallowing briefly, trying to put his thoughts together and not having anywhere near as much luck as he would have liked.

What he could remember of her face said she was pretty. He'd seen pretty girls before and he'd always rather liked them. But the sensation he gained of her magic - that floored him. He had no idea of how someone could be that powerful.

She's not going to notice you either. Magicians like that don't notice librarians. Shou kept himself very aware that he was next to nothing and always would be. But maybe he'd at least get to know her name one day. That would be good enough.

As the days ticked by, it really didn't seem that likely that he'd run into her again. Sometimes he spied a flash of golden hair from a distance, or hear an echo of laughter that he thought was hers, but he didn't really see her. He didn't know what he would have said or done if he had.

Besides, he had a lot going on that gave him far more to think about than a powerful sorceress or arch-mage or whatever it was that she would probably end up being. Every new student had to take basic magic lessons, and those absorbed a lot of his time and energy. Most of the other first year students seemed to waft through all of it with the greatest of ease. Even Juudai could flick out answers to Professor Chronos' questions - though Shou also got the impression that the professor didn't like the prince very much.

Regardless, Shou spent as much of his free time as he could studying, impressing all the variations of magic into his head. That was how it worked. The first year one spent at the Academy was devoted to general information and skills, abilities that even non-mages could do. Not everyone learned those things here, but more people knew them than didn't. Those often involved changing the color of one's hair or eyes or feathers or clothes or healing minor ailments or anything small and useful.

Shou practiced those whenever he got the chance, when he wasn't studying what came out of the books. He wasn't very good at them, but he studied regardless. There wasn't a chance he'd make it as a librarian or an archivist if he couldn't manage these little things.

One more time. Shou stared down at his fingernails and focused as hard as he could, gathering up the magical energy from all around him. He'd been trying for two hours to get them to turn green, but so far he'd barely been able to manage a light tint. They were going to be tested on it tomorrow and if he couldn't manage it... well, he'd do it.

Slowly he unleashed the magic, repeating the chant under his breath the required amount of times, feeling the magic taking hold. He was doing it! He was really doing it! He was going to be a real magic user! Maybe even better than his brother! He'd be the Arch-mage! The greatest of mages that ever walked the world!

The magic slipped away - not as fast as it usually did, but eluding his grasp so swiftly that he couldn't stop it when his nails began to shift. Only they weren't becoming the deep shade of green he'd wanted. They weren't even green at all. His nails lengthened and thickened, twisting around one another, and no matter how hard he tried to haul the magic back to reverse it, nothing happened.

Shou stared again, but more in absolute despair than frustration now. He tried to move his fingers, but they would scarcely twitch now. They were thick and knotted, more like branches tied together than anything else, and he waved them uselessly.

"Oh no," he groaned, sinking back against the wall behind him. He'd been here in the garden for what seemed like hours now. Studying here in the warm sunlight seemed like such a good idea at the time. Now he wondered what would happen if he stuck his finger-twigs in the dirt, turned into a shrub, and got it over with.

I'd probably mess up being a shrub. He tugged again at his fingers. It wasn't getting any better. If anything, he could spy little bits of moss starting to grow on what had been his fingers. At least it was green moss? How had he messed it up this badly? Ryou would never have done this.

"Are you all right?"

Shou jerked his head up at the words, ready to insist that he didn't need any help, really. He could go to one of the teachers or aides and get this fixed if he couldn't manage it. Or Juudai could figure it out. He was really, really good at magic. But he didn't need anyone else's help, really.

But when he met those sparkling blue eyes, and got his first really good look at her face, every single word died on his lips. He swallowed and shivered. Being so close to her - and where had she even come from so silently? - made him forget what it was like to even be able to talk for a few moments. He swallowed again and forced words out.

"Yes?" He could manage that much at least. Whether anything else would come remained to be seen.

She leaned over, head tilted to one side. "You were trying the cantrip for color changing?"

"Yeah," Shou admitted, his cheeks tinting a bit red with embarrassment instead of magic. "I don't know what I did wrong."

"It's not that bad," she decided, bending over his twiggy fingers, her hair brushing against him. "I can fix this. Do you mind?"

Shou blinked a couple of times before what she'd said penetrated his mind. "Um - please?" What else could he really have said? He didn't want to have those twigs any longer than he had to!

She bent over and whispered something that he couldn't quite hear. It was probably a reversal spell of some kind. Those were higher level magics - normally if cantrips went wrong they weren't on this level. Magical energy swept over him, focused on his fingers, and slowly they began to return to normal, the stiffness fading away, followed by him being able to pull them apart, the moss creeping back, then vanishing altogether, until he breathed a heartfelt sigh of relief.

"Thank you, ma'am," Shou groaned in relief. "Thank you so much." He fidgeted, darting his eyes towards her. "Um, my name's Shou. Marufuji Shou." It would be rude not to at least introduce himself after she'd helped him. "It's a pleasure to meet you"

"My name's Autumn." She grinned at him, and he would have sworn the air itself sparkled at the expression. "I bumped into you back on the first day, didn't I?"

Shou turned even brighter red, staring downwards. She remembered? She'd probably laughed about that with her friends. "Yeah," he admitted. "Sorry about that."

"It was my fault." Autumn patted him on the shoulder. "Hey, do you want a few extra lessons? Just to help get those cantrips right? I always have trouble with them myself." She laughed, that ripple of music and magic that thrilled him inside and out. "First time I tried, I turned my hair striped!"

Shou couldn't help but laugh himself. "I wish I'd seen that." He yelped a breath later, shaking his head. He never wanted anyone to see his mistakes. Why would she be any different?

But Autumn only grinned, and ran hr fingers through her hair. In the wake of her touch, the golden hair transformed, leaving her with streaks of red, blue, pink, green, and black. Then she shook it swiftly and the vibrant strands shone like sunlight once again. "I kind of like it like that, but my master insists that I look normal while I'm at school." She wrinkled her nose. "Anyway, if you want some help, I can at least do that."

Shou tried to wrap his head around the idea that he was being offered help, by her! Juudai had offered to tutor him, but Shou had never learned a lot from when Juudai tried to do it. Mostly because Yubel hovered over their shoulders, and Yubel made him extremely nervous. He'd never seen them eat anything that wasn't on a proper plate but everyone knew the stories about dragons and demons and he'd rather not gt his body or his soul eaten.

"Okay?" He shook his head again, this time to force more words out of it. He could at least make a decent impression on her, better than that first meeting! "I'd like that." There, he could talk! Sensibly, even!

Autumn grinned at him. "All right. Then let me show you how that cantrip is supposed to work. Here." She settled next to him on the bench, taking his fingers in her own, and recited the brief spell. He could feel the way that her magic worked, even as his fingernails turned just the shade of green that he'd been aiming for, and then turned back to their usual tint. "There. You want to try it?"

Shou set his jaw, gathered up the energy one more time, and focused all of his attention on getting it to work right. He wasn't sure if it was because he had someone there showing him just how to do it correctly or because he wanted to impress her still or what, but this time, his nails changed, and he knew it was because of what he'd done.

"Congratulations!" Autumn's grin glowed as brightly as her hair did. "Hey, if you need any more help, then let me know." She waved one hand towards the area of the Academy where long-term students - longer than the usual years of the Academy - lived, usually with their teachers. She had said she had a master, after all. That meant she had a lot of raw magical talent. "I live over there. Just send a message any time and it should get there. I'm the only Autumn here, as far as I know."

Shou knew the area. His brother lived there too, studying hard under Master Samejima. He didn't think he'd ever be that blessed, though. "I could always use some help," he admitted. "I'm not that good at magic."

Autumn gave him a thoughtful look, one laced with a flicker of magical sight. Then she shook her head. "I think you could be. You just need to believe in yourself more." She patted him on the hand. "We can talk about it over lunch if you want?"

Only then did he hear the bell ringing - it was indeed time for the noon meal. Shou's stomach rumbled, matched by Autumn's a breath later. Meals here at the Academy were always impressive; they needed to be. Using magic took a lot of energy that could only be replaced by food. Then what else she said clicked in.

"Over lunch? With you?"

That brilliant smile lit up the whole garden. "Yup. Come on." She held a hand out to him, and Shou accepted the gesture, rising up. The rest of the year didn't seem as difficult as it had before now. Not with Autumn as his friend.

So yesterday I learned that Ken and Osamu were almost twins and this morning I wrote up notes for an AU for that

I'm here on tumblr for another 2 and a half hours or so before my game tonight, so I'll gladly rp this AU in that time

full disclaimer, my shipper's heart is showing in the below and I havent even considered anything for the other characters

So a world where Ken is a twin, he doesn't understand why he's not as smart as Osamu, they're literally twins why does Osamu get way more attention?

He gets increasingly pissed about it. When the digivice comes out of the computer, he doesn't get why _Osamu_ gets to keep it, he already has everything. Ryou joins their class around the same time, the teachers thought it would be easier if both twins were in one class, less chance of them switching places. And Ryou is drawn to Osamu and Ken is left fuming, trying not to be jealous at one more thing Osamu has instead of Ken.

But hey, at least Ken is known to be kinder? That's gotta count for something, right?

Osamu is away at some thing for famous people, honestly Ken doesn't care what, Ken only cares that his twin that will be gone long enough for him to jimmy the lock on the drawer. He takes the digivice, Ryou arrives unexpectedly for Osamu and finds the younger twin instead

The digiworld pulls them in and tag tamers happens and Ken finally feels seen even if even an evil digigod openly doesn't want him around. He gains a friend in Ryou, shares a small part of his thoughts, but then the Spore happens and the festering anger in him only grows.

He's sick in bed, helping Ryou through the computer, and Osamu is there, changing his headcloth whenever it gets too warm, trying to figure out how the tf to fix his brother

It's during a fever dream that Ken says "I wish you were gone" and Osamu tries not to take it personally, but it still hurts, when Ken is better and Ryou is officially missing, he takes Ken out for ice cream. It's an excuse to get away from the parents, he intended to talk things over with Ken. They never make it there

Inoue Mart is right across the street the twins only half cross (because before they lived in Tamachi, they lived in Odaiba) and when one of the Inoue kids saw the accident, they called for their parents. The Inoues are the first on the scene, the first to try and comfort Ken while hiding his brother's body from him.

Osamu was dead on impact, the last words he told his brother was that everything seem better after some ice cream, the last words he heard were that nothing was wrong Osamu why would you think that.

They move to Tamachi, getting away from the media as they cover osamu's death. Ken gets a million well-wishes, but also hears when classmates idiotly wonder why the _good_ twin died. He is not dealing well, then he gets the email about the digital world and he jumps, having forgotten the digital world during his feverdreams, fully believing that even his adventure with Ryou was a figment of fiction

He takes on the digital world, fashioning his "avatar" after his twin because even now he feels like Osamu is required to experience everything first but Osamu ain't here.

When the new digikids join the world, he recognized the youngest Inoue and prayed she didn't recognize him but that was a long lost dream already

It takes a while, especially with Ken refusing to be alone with her, but the moment she finds them alone, Miyako quietly says a name and he's confused. Ken? Doesn't she mean Osamu? Who tf does she think she is, actually recognizing him?

Normal 02 continues, with Miyako hiding that she already knew who he was as she tried to figure out what was going on any time they were alone

Eventually, when he returns to the human world after staying far away for months, he ends up in the hospital, it's not the first time at all but this time is more memorable, it's the first time he's seen a friend he forgot about, in 3 years. Kouichi is there, immediately recognizes him, and gives him a hug that's 3 years late but just as important as it would have been back then.

Unknown to Ken, the reason why he lost contact with Kouichi at such a critical time in his life, was because of Kouichi’s accident with the stairs.

While Ken lost a twin, Kouichi gained one.

They talked about everything and now that they both have phones they promise not to lose contact again. It only takes one digimon in the human world for them to share that they're both digidestined of different digital worlds
