REALITY DISGUISES ITSELF IN MANY WAYS. Truths and falsehoods hold no bearings in a land that strives to animate fiction with the erasure of common knowledge. Already, she’s caught wind of walking parallel universes; men of great stature with the surname Pendragon, and women alike. Merlin, too, has become a subject among experimental peers. Strange how they diffuse the same energy… like moths to a flame. “Perhaps it is a red string that draws us to one another. An oath by blood, mayhap, that brings you to utter my name despite seeing for yourself that I am not the Arthur you know.”
A heavy cover falls on the weather-ridden pages of her book, packaging its secrets in a neat stack on her lap. With neither a title nor an author to its front, only its age can infer its contents. “To whom have you pledged your fealty to?” And by whom, she meant which– to which Arthur was her allegiance sworn?
“his name is arthur pendragon, albiet rather than blonde tassles like your own, his is a head like fire, a magnificent orange; his armor a golden, made from the remains of a dragon which he slain with excalibur himself.” She mused a bit, her lips curling at both edges, forming a playful cheshire smile. “You appear different in this world my king, but you retain the same scent, the same magical power as ever.” Merlin closed the book shut intrigued by this one’s form, what was *her* merlin like? were they a female, or a male, what kind of person were they. “Tell me of your own merlin, were they of goddess and demon blood like myself, or were they of the faery taught?”

Merlin was busy in the library as always with her studies, trying to concoct some sort of new potion, she hummed, looking through various books of herbs and medicine of this realm. given none of the flora, fauna nor biota appeared in this realm at least none she was all to familiar with, up until she caught sight of a familiar magical prowess from her peripheral vision...no, this wasn’t the same, it was altered to some extent. “arthur?” she questioned, turning to face the source of the power. Was this truly him? and yet he took the form of a beauteous woman much similar to that of her own guise.

“Thank you.” She decided to be more reasonable after all. Dune stepped in ahead of her, accepting the circumstances. She was more than a bit strange and forward, but there was something he still suspected could be mutually useful. Once he had his power back… and so did she. A weak person wouldn’t have the kind of radiating confidence she had.
He took a seat on a chair close to the kitchen, glancing around at the apartment style. The condos were supposedly not different in concept, but the set-up was far different. “I’m from a more technologically advanced society than this. I don’t think this city is capable of quick space travel. However, there’s not much of a world for us.” Sucking planets dry of their resources and moving on did that sometimes.
“You must be the opposite, but technology isn’t everything. Are goddesses, demons, and magic are common in your world?”
“why yes, they are, the goddess clan however has long since perished, the demon clan had broken the seal, we also have giants, fairies, and multiple other clans.” The thought just hit her..merlin shot up.
“ARTHUR!” she had forgotten of her beloved pendragon, the king of kings, she practically screamed his name out, her teacup breaking. “Tell me dune, do you know if a man named arthur pendragon made it to this world or have you encountered him?” She was in a panic; was he okay? was he safe, perhaps escanor was tending to his injuries..

“Balbok, the Brutal”, it comes in return from the Orc. Although a lot more grimm and less friendly. She had the same way of talking complicated than any other humans. He feels confused and irritated. Was she now going to befriend him or just insulting him more?
“They are. But I don’t care what others say! All these— achgosh-lairk are a bunch of— bog-uchg! Just because they were the first ones on sochgal doesn’t make them any better or scarier than us!” It’s always getting difficult for him to find the right words when he’s upset. And she probably didn’t understand a thing, didn’t she? He can’t be bothered to translate at that point, though. “I don’t know what poppycock is supposed to mean, and I don’t care. Just stop talking all that shnorsh, it’s annoying. I’ll be your— companion, alright.” Was it a mistake? Maybe. But it would stop all the talking. Perhaps. Right now, he wants to blow off steam. And he decided that he had to keep up his bad reputation. “So what now? Want to go kill something with me? Or, wanna go for a blood beer?”
“I’d be honoured to share a blood beer with you, balbok.” She dawns a light grin upon her face. “And i’d love to learn more about your people and language if you’d be so kind to indulge me.” she knew she had hit a bad spot just from his tone, perhaps learning more of his own culture would keep her from becoming more hostile; after all it isn’t often one happens to cross an orc, let alone one that isn’t trying to rob you for some gold, or pilliaging some poor country village.

He’d chosen to take his chances at this point. Her home ground as it was, she didn’t seem like she had been around a significant time longer than him like others he’d spoken to. It felt like a reduced threat. Could she have filled it with dangerous objects all that fast?
Still, he told her, “Don’t lock it, please.” The ‘please’ was a questionable addition, because his tone sounded more firm than requesting. “If a roommate returns without warning while we talk, I don’t mind.”
He was waiting to confirm this before saying anything else. He deserved this much negotiation.
“oh you needn’t worry, i’m not going to lock it, i’m home; and have a guest it would be quite rude of me to not allow you to leave anytime you wish.” She spoke as calm and cool as she could; treating this boy as she would king or any of the other sins, oddly he did look quite like king, just a blonde rather than a redhead. “You needn’t worry about roommates either i seem to be the only one here at the time being.”
She went to prep him a cup of tea, merlin had adapted quite well to the new era she found herself in, learning how to do menial tasks without the use of magic. “To me much of this new life seems quite alien, but to meet someone from beyond the heavens.”

Huh? Did she read his mind? Ugh, Battler detests when people do that to him. “N-No, in fact my wife is herself a very powerful witch. And so are several others whose power I can’t even properly process, like my guardian.” Or the closest thing to God he’s ever seen.
“I am indeed from Asia, though! Japan, to be more specific.” He combs his hair and looks around the room, taking notice of what the other participants are currently doing. Perhaps he should join them for the sake of teamwork.
…..Oooooor he could explain to Merlin what the heck a detective is, seeing how not having an idea of that concept is so baffling that it locks Battler away from anything else. “A-Are you serious? You… genuinely don’t know what a detective is?!”
“so through a pact of sorts she gave you her magic that’s quite unheard of, in albeit intruging.” she headed towards the other contestants, sitting down in one of the nearby chairs. “I’ve never heard of a detective, is it similar to that of an inquisitor?” She examined the surroundings before spotting the ‘spider’ “Ah ha.” she picked up the one thing that was out of place, an out of season fruit. “I think this might be our little trickster, she couldn’t use absolute cancel but a basic look over at the energy could tell her easily that it was a fountain of magic.”
“And thus this would end the little game, however i would love to learn more about you and the eastern world, if you’d be so kind of course; if not then this is where our acquaintanceship will end.”

“Ah, I see, sorry for th- wait, Merlin?!” His eyes widen in surprise. “Y-You mean THE Merlin from Arthurian legends? The super duper powerful wizard that everyone admires?”
And she’s a woman all along?! Huh… Battler wonders if she is from the same world as Shirou’s, where King Arthur is also a woman apparently. But that’s not really the most important topic here. She’ll likely explain herself to him.
Instead, he’d rather focus on the mystery they’re going through. “Ah, sorry about that outburst. But famous Merlin or not, you’re not supposed to use magic to solve this puzzle. This was designed for humans, and thus it should be solvable by human means. We should act more like detectives than mages for the moment.”
And of course, he should answer her question. “I was almost forgetting. Name’s Battler Ushiromiya, nice to meet’cha!” He extends her a hand to shake. “I’ll leave the answer to that second question for after we solve this puzzle. That is, if we manage to solve this puzzle~.”
“The exact same, is it so odd for a woman to be such a powerful being.” She kindly bows towards battler her lips curving upwards in a gentle smile. “A pleasure to meet you as well battler i assume you’re from one of the eastern continents based on your surname.” She had oh so many questions but perhaps that was for another time.
“A human puzzle eh? Well that’s quite a conundrum given that i’ve never been a human.” she leaned against the wall tapping her hand against her head. “I must ask though what is a ‘detective’?” she didn’t understand modern terms so she supposed asking now of all times wasn’t the worst.

Ahhh, what a nostalgic scenario. The room they prepared certainly looks like something that you’d see at the Ushiromiya mansion at Rokkenjima, down to the humongous portrait on the wall. And the dim lighting reminds Battler of those games he’d played through, where the witch carefully prepared the atmosphere to assure the maximum of tension among the participants.
Suffice to say, he’s seen enough of this sort of game to feel true terror before it. However, the intellectual challenge offered is something else. This is pretty much a game about trying to break free of a closed room - fascinating, indeed!
Problem is, he’s having some difficulty in figuring out how to locate the ‘honest’ spider. Maybe some of the people alongside him are having more luck. He approaches one of them. “Yo! Any luck on your front, miss?”
“my name’s merlin and you best remember it.” She chuckled as she pondered herself using aport to see if she could even get it with her teleport spell that being said it felt like something was blocking her. “no, my magic doesn’t work so whatever this thing is we’re trying to find, i can’t teleport to is let alone find its energy.”
the purple haired court mage was getting a bit more aggrivated about this whole dumb thing, not too mention the fact whatever this spider was it might just be a wild goose chase. “since we’re stuck together you may as well tell me your name warlock and how you’re so strong.”
