what got you into dinnerware? for me, it was Ouran High School Host Club. yes. i got into dinnerware through an anime. but it got me into this world of craftsmanship, history, and design, so i'm not even embarrassed to admit it anymore.

I got into it through my grandma's collection! I sorted through and organized it some years ago and the emotional high of hunting down production dates and pattern names has never left me.

Sadly that collection has long since been pared down and given to consignment stores or whatever else, but I still have a couple full sets of hers and I'm very slowly adding to it whenever I visit resale shops hehe :3

This coffee cup is part of one of those remaining sets, from the brand Mikasa in the pattern Just Flowers.

A fun fact for u: Mikasa is a relatively modern name in the porcelain trade, being established in 1948. The oldest company in my collection is Spode! Established in 1770, they were a hugely influential part of early European porcelain production and the transition from soft-paste to hard-paste formulas. Also, they're still in business today! 2020 was their 250th anniversary.

Here is the accordion sketchbook that I put all of these into. Initially I was afraid of using such a nice little book, and I was also afraid of starting this project. So I decided to combine the two and I think the results works out great!

okay okay, but look at this beautiful tea set i got from my grandma!! i love it so much, it has sparrows, chachfinches and goldfinches on it. all of those are local birds in czechia, which makes me even happier, since its kinda hard to find stuff with birds that actually live around here. all i always find are toucans, flamingos and hummingbirds. its not that i dislike those species, but i simply aprecciate the local fauna much more.

dobrá, hoši, ale pohleďte na tenhle krásnej čajovej set, co jsem dostala od babičky k narozeninám. zbožňuju ho, vzhledem k tomu, že jsou na něm vrabčáci, stehlíci a pěnkavy, což, jak všichni jistě dobře víme, jsou všechno druhy, které se běžně v česku objevují. vzhledem k tomu, jak složité je objevit "merč" s našimi ptáčky, mám z tohohle setu o to větší radost. vždycky nacházím spoustu věcí třeba s tukany, plameňáky nebo kolibříky, což jsou všechno sice ptáčci, které mám taky ráda, ale prostě to není ono.
