Hey I’m sorry to ask bc I know you probably get this a lot, but are you planning to ever finish Ahead in the Back? I’m not even super into Stanchez anymore but your writing & art has always made me come back to the comic as something I just enjoy reading, and I still wonder how it’s meant to end. (No pressure if the answer is no, of course; you do what you wanna do, you certainly don’t owe Tumblr of all places anything)

I appreciate it :) but yeah, probably not. I still think about it sometimes, but I’ve got other art projects going now and my whole workflow has changed.

I could maybe clean up the script a little and post that to ao3 if there’s demand for it. The script has all been written since before I started drawing the comic, but I don’t think I’m ever gonna get the art done for it.

Haunted Painting!AU: Day 4

(Oh? I make Diavolo have empathy? I make Diavolo have empathy like the doggo? Oh! Oh! Jail for author! Jail for author for one thousand years!

"First, you have to find five treasures." Diavolo explained. "You know what these treasures are."

"...Vanitas, right?" You ask. "I read up on those-"

Your phone buzzes. You know your devilish muse doesn't mind you looking at your phone at this point.

[Owner][Day 4]

'Vanita paintings are a style of still life paintings that represent the emptiness of life. These motifs may seem mundane, but can mean something profound. Many of these motifs have many interpretations, but I have a few examples.'

'A musical instrument (i.e. trumpet) means transience of life.'

'A candle or lamp represents life's fleeting length.'

'A book or scroll means the futility of earthly knowledge.'

'A crown or jewel means vanity of wealth.'

'Lastly, a skull may mean mortality or death.'

[Landlord][Day 1]

'I don't know what possessed me. I took it.'

'I ended up here, in this familiar studio. Where I found this painting. I'm in a nightmare.'

'So why did I take it? Will I see my family again? He whispers to me, perhaps confusing me for the woman who's studio I plundered the painting from. Please, lord. Forgive me. I wish I had paid mind to my art lessons.'

You put your phone away and set to work. You go back to your room to sketch the lamp, but decided to take it with you as well when you finished. "It might come in handy." You muse, exiting the room.

You sketched a crown hidden in the vines, the trumpet held by a cherub, and a skull on a shelf in the studio. You notice a person shaped stain below the easel, but broke focus away to go through a door.

The room is dark, and you can't see. "Wait, my soul lights up when I paint, right?" You ask yourself. "Then I can use that to light the lamp." Gathering your soul onto the brush, you light the lamp. You feel a little weak and your chest hurts a little, but you can see better. There's a diary in the fireplace, and you sketch it before picking it up.

...There's a missing spot there? You set your dimming lamp to see frames of almost similar paintings, with a empty space between them.

You phone buzzes...

No matter how many I paint, nothing compares to him, nothing is his equal.

My time is running thin, please paint him before my time runs out.

You rush out before the light fades, the door slamming shut behind you. "I...I found all five." You say, turning to face Diavolo.

"...your face looks pale." He states. "What happened in that-"

"It's-" You sigh as you cut him off, looking down. "It's not really important right now." When you look up again, the canvas showed his feet.

"Put everything you gathered on the bed." He says, that worried tone still in his voice. "I'll let you choose the colors this time."

You raise the paintbrush, your soul alighting it...

Somehow, you felt an ache in your heart. Something didn't feel right...

You have been calling all morning, but your sister is not answering. You thought she overslept, and started to do your laundry.

Quickly, you reached your car and drove to the hospital.

You finish painting the motifs, trembling; you picked gold for the trumpet and crown, purple for the book, and red for the lamp and skull.

"Bene." Diavolo answers. "Take a short break while I prepare."

"O-okay." You respond, stepping away from the canvas and sitting down. You realized that you were feeling drained- perhaps painting was draining you life away? 'I'm not going down without a fight.' You tell yourself, looking up as you see Diavolo with the motifs surrounding him.

"I will hide one of the treasures, and you will paint it here." He explains as you stand up. "Shall we begin?"

You step up to the canvas, nodding. "Yes." You answer. "Let's."

You hold back from speeding as you drive to the hospital, the feeling growing worse and worse. You have to get there as quickly as possible. "Hang on, sis." You say under your breath. "I'm coming."

You pant growing more exhausted. The first round was over. You watch as Diavolo looks you over. "We've only just started." He says, his voice soft with concern.

"I'm getting tired." You say, looking at your phone.

[Researcher][Day 4]

'I've heard of spirits going into the possessions they loved in life- I've collected a good number of these items, as a matter of fact. Perhaps these motifs appear due to being a manifestation of his memories, and I'm starting to realize-'

'Of course! This may have to do with the painting's painting as well! But where is her presence in all this? My body is getting weak from all this?'

'Somehow, my soul is stronger than my body is... I have a feeling the black splotch might have to do with the artist. I will rest for now, but whoever is next might be able to lift this curse. Maybe I'll wake up again, one way or another.'

The dying text looked different this time, not glitchy but... Different. "You know, the others haven't been able you live through this." You answer. "You'll live forever, but I can't." Your voice sounded resigned, making Diavolo stare at you with indifference-

No. This wasn't indifference, it is concern. He seems to shake it off. "... let's begin the next round." He said, sounding... remorseful?

You nod, lifting your alighted brush.

You burst through the hospital doors to the receptionist's desk, rattling off you were a relative and your sister's room number. The receptionist calms you down and says she'll talk to the doctor.

You sit in the waiting room, nervous. You felt like throwing up, but you hadn't eaten anything. It felt like forever until you saw a chaplain approached you. You heart drops.

You barely process the events; you were explained what had happened, you were taken to your sister's bedside where she was covered with a white sheet, and found yourself outside the room, blindsided. You notice-

It's him. You have a suspicion about it as he seems to weep openly to the doctors, but as he looked over to you, he smirked.

When there was a quiet moment with just the two of you, you whisper; "Why?"

He- the bastard that your sister was like once in love with until she realized what a monster he was, is still smirking as he gives his answer:

"If I can't have her, no one can."

You almost collapse, almost exhausted. Your brush is dimly lit, earning you a concerned look from Diavolo. "Well, it's over for me." You say, your tone somewhat defiant. "You won- I'm sorry you're nowhere close to finished."

He looks at you, his arrogant look seemingly to have faded. "You... You're not giving up this easily, are you?" He asks.

"I wouldn't if it wasn't for my body." You answer, focusing on the inky, body shaped stain on the floor. "My only other regret is that sister is going to be sad seeing me so soon- oh well, I guess it's a win either way."

"..." Diavolo doesn't say anything, for a moment. "You and a couple others listened to me- and you never gave up. You remind me of another artist, she seemed to be as morose as you. I wonder where she went..."

Your phone buzzes. "I think I know." You answer, knowing that soon after, you'd join your sister...

'My fellow artist? Will you listen? Will you let me regale you a tale of this portrait of mine, of the vivid, horrible week we spent together, and our'

"No."

No? You look up, seeing Diavolo holding a skull with a dim flame in it; the flame growing brighter. "I'm not letting you die like this, with neither of our ends of this unfulfilled." He says, his eyes full of angry tears. "We're going back to the beginning."

You were confused; he was trying to torment you the past few days, and now he was trying to save you?! "Just rest now." He said, eyes defiant to your possible death. "I will fix this."

You pass out as you hear a woman's voice speak;

"...and of her final days...?"

Lena Headey should take all the awards for this fucking thing along with Alfie Allen, Aiden Gillen, Stephen Dillane, Charles Dance, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Pedro Pascal, Maisie Williams, Peter Dinklage, Liam Cunningham... 

Sophie Turner is also weak acting, but Emilia and Kit are worse than her most of the Emilia and Kit are not bad actors, they are just the weakest leads in the cast.

but other than that, let’s go over how fucking incoherent is your choice of names for rebuttal.

alfie: plays theon. everyone hated theon until s5. got himself cut off his storyline in S5. didn’t have a chance to show his skills as a main character since S3. no way he’s getting nominated because a) time requirements, b) AUDIENCE POPULARITY;

aiden gillen: .... so aiden has been playing LF in exactly the same way, because excuse me the last three season he was going on automatic, with a shit incoherent script that makes him look like a maniac without a plan, and he’s not even a main-main but of course, they should totally send him for awards because publicity, right?

stephen dillane: lol. dillane hated being on the show, d&d treated him like shit and stannis had passable writing in S2, from S3 onwards it was obvious they didn’t know what to do with him and they came out with the most ooc/ridiculous way to have him dying, do you really think they were gonna send in DILLANE FOR AWARDS? in which world do you live? also, stannis has been dead since S5. kit got nominated for S6. period. wtf?

charles dance: charles dance is an excellent actor but I doubt he needs an emmy for got out of everything and he’s been dead since S4, kit has been nominated for S6. again, also for what were they gonna nominate him? tywin isn’t main enough for an emmy nomination;

NCW: WELL, they could have nominated him in S3 which was his moment to shine, they passed him for dinklage and jaime’s character development has been fucked to hell and back since the end of S4 and he doesn’t even have the OMG AMAZING VILLAIN rep lena has, so like......... sure as hell they didn’t pass him for kit, because in s6 kit had definitely more to do than he did, and we’ll get there in a moment;

pedro pascal: he was there for one season. in which he died. kit’s been there since S1. and it was S4. kit got nominated for s6 only. pedro is not on the show anymore. but okay;

maisie: SHE ACTUALLY GOT A NOMINATION SAME AS LENA ABOVE SO;

peter dinklage: HE WON TWO AND GOT NOMINATED EVERY OTHER YEAR EVEN FOR YEARS WHEN HE LITERALLY HAD FUCK TO DO  like S5 so they’re doing exactly what you say they should;

liam cunningham: .... liam is a national treasure and I <3 him but are you seriously, seriously thinking that for publicity they’re sending the actor who plays davos? like? davos is in my top 5 characters period but he’s not the kind of challenging character to play that gets emmy nods and like tywin, he’s main but not main enough.

so like, everyone you mentioned either got nominated or won or got noticed or has no chances period because that’s not how emmys work.

and btw, kit hasn’t *won* the one time he got nominated so it’s not like he took the prize from someone more deserving if that even matters, but anyway:

kit was nominated for season six. if you had bothered to read above you’d have remembered that S6 had resurrection, sansa reunion, battle of the bastards where he performed his own stunts for the entire thing and excuse me if that’s not a demanding performance and that it came after S5 where his sl was the only decent thing in the entire mess and where he played it imo perfectly, and he also had a ton of material to work with. and - he was the main character, and he had way more challenging material than NCW, peter or anyone else you mentioned. so he got an emmy nod because he carried the entire thing on his back whether you like it or not and because he worked his ass off to film one hour of pseudo-realistic battle scenes where he did his own stunts and wow, they dared nominate him when he actually put some serious effort into it same as he does since S1 and actually improves/works at the craft and has steadily improved, but hey, he totally shouldn’t get a fucking nomination because you don’t like his acting? well, I see his. where is yours? :’D

like. you think he’s a weak actor and you won’t even read why according to some people he’s not? fine, but no one has asked for your opinion especially when put in such a fucking rude way and next time you can keep that for yourself, including all the opinions you have on sophie and emilia because I’m not here to do the kind of blogging where I put actors against each other or shit on people I don’t like. or if you really feel like informing me, do bother to not refer to the entire thing that it took me one hour to write as ‘whatever the fuck you said’, because if you wanna have a discussion, reading what the other person said should be the damned starting point of it.

and next time look at the more deserving people you list first because you managed to pick a handful of names that in that context made no bloody sense. and for that matter, you totally forgot that they didn’t ever give michelle fairley a nod when imo she’s miles better than 90% of the girls in the show (I love most of them but fairley is a whole other level of being good), but hey, catelyn wasn’t flashy enough, right? and fyi if they had nominated richard madden in S3 I’d have entirely agreed because the only reason I didn’t quit the damned thing was that he was good enough at playing robb that he made me forget the script was mauling him 80% of the time, but I imagine that since richard is also very good-looking he can’t act, too, and it’d have been taking awards from the more deserving again, hm?

and tbqh aiden imo was way weaker than kit for the last three seasons of this mess of a show imo, because every time LF did something it made no sense and his plot was fucked to hell and back and whenever it was around the plot sucked and he was there playing always the same character the same way without going back or forward, kit instead has gone forward, had good writing and carried the entire thing professionally/solidly, but hey, what have you. it’s named subjective opinions. do I go tell that to aiden or lf fans? no.

omggg ok this is gonna sound AWFUL but ??? i actually was not inspired to make ravne at all initially ??? what happened is that i used to write xm/cu logan DKFJSADLFJ and then stuff happened and i was off in another fandom ( ... specifically,,, the te/en wo/lf fandom,,, ) and a then-friend of mine was telling me abt xm/fc ( which at that point, near the end of 2011, i still hadn’t even ? seen yet ? im a FAKE i know ) and how she was in the fandom and that there was a Lack of ravens and she wanted me to join her there and,,, tbh,,, things got p bad for me on my other blog ( if ur in the fandom/u Know me from back then, u know the issue, plus i also had sb who was,,, abusing me,,, and it was honestly. just. a shitshow. ) so i essentially like ??? i made myself write raven??? 

and i know! it sounds really bad! at that point in my life i had NEVER written any female muses, all my muses were male. ALL of them. i had gotten better in tht i wasnt like,, throwing women under the bus for slash ships anymore but. it was really difficult for me to relate to raven? though she’s definitely more relatable than xtrilogy raven who has like,,, 1 line per movie or something ,,, 

but it was really hard for me to relate to her! her story arc made little sense to me and, i think if you go back far enough on my old archive blog, you’ll see some. Truly. terrible and misinformed ideas that i had about what made raven the way she was ( that i have since revised and grown beyond but were essential to me at the time to start building my understanding of her ). but what i had to work off was this: 

self esteem/self image/confidence issues, 

a slightly dependent personality and, 

the transformation of that young girl we saw into the hardened mys/tique we see in the x-trilogy.

i did a watch by myself to figure out the story, then i watched it again with nessa and that’s where i started relating more to her, finding pieces that really connected to me. the way she swallows back her arguments in the oxford scene, her obvious jealousy, the way she makes such an effort to connect with hank’s awkward attention, how completely she turns at the end of xm/fc, her turning to erik for comfort and reassurance -- all these little things, subtle characterisation that spoke volumes to me, because i was looking for it. raven is, in her nature, a subtle person -- it only makes sense that her character arc would be something you need to reflect on. and that’s when i realised that her storyline is familiar to me -- it’s an inflated, slightly exaggerated version of one of the stories in my own life. the othering she’s faced her whole life because of how she looks, how deeply it cuts and affects her. 

so i guess in the end, tl:dr -- there initially wasn’t anything in xm/fc that drew my attention to raven at all. she was, to me, a flat and uninteresting character. but she’s someone i grew to love writing very, very much -- she’s my longest lasting rp muse -- and someone whose worth and story arc is something i found value in as i, myself, grew and changed and became more open to the message she was trying to convey.

Reaching Out for Repercussions

"Jeez Gabe, ya never used to fight so dirty, s'min Talon teach ya?" The cowboy panted heavily, a gentle chuckle underlying his words as his peacekeeper leveled with the Reapers forehead. The so called, angel of death was on his knees wheezing and staring up at the gunslinger with a dark glint of hatred in his eyes. The white mask that typically adorned his features cracked and broken to allow shards of the man he was to show through. Patches of the old Gabriel Reyes masked with a smokey overtone and a scent of death that couldn't be replicated. Around the pair, a battle raged between Overwatch and Talon. Lena could be heard darting around with Genji at her side trying to take down the illusive widowmaker, Dva was teamed up with Lucio wearing down Talon agents while Torbjörn and Reinhardt took care of some hardier machinery Talon had brought to the fight. Each member had their own job to do, and for the Gunslinger, taking down Reaper had been his task. A task he had demanded repeatedly in meetings. A task he had assured other agents he was the only one capable of completing. A task that was his duty to fulfill. "It's Reaper...and lf you're expecting me to beg you're going to be waiting a long time ingrate." The deep gravelly voice of the Reaper drew an amused look to Jesse's face, the gunslinger shaking his head with a gentle sigh. He was more than aware of the blood trickling down the side of his face, a result of a blow delivered by the butt of Reapers empty shotguns not 10 minutes prior. The Cowboy took a moment to count his lucky stars that he was stood with the upper hand for once. He was still able to smell the gunpowder on him, thanking whatever gods that would listen for the luck he had been given. The cowboy had managed to avoid the brutal blasts from the Reapers shotguns and escape with just a few grazes and a new hole in the bottom of serape to show for it. " 'm not expect'n anythin' partner, and cut the act Gabe, I've known it's been you for a long time. Can't fool this cowboy I know ye too damn well" Jesse saw the Reapers clawed hand reach for the shotgun and flicked his weapon in warning tutting loudly "Leave that well alone darlin'. We're guna talk this out like gentlemen" the gunslinger rolled his eyes as a choked laugh forced it's way past the Reapers lips. "Talk?" Gabe shook his head "You've gone soft. I have nothing to say to you, so just kill me and be done with it. " he growled before a thought sprung to mind "Unless, you don't have the guts to go through with it?" his gaze met the cowboys, silently daring him to pull the trigger and prove him wrong. "Well, Deadeye? Take the shot" he goaded the gunslinger, scowling at him when the male showed no attempt to pull the trigger "Prove yourself, be the fucking hero" still the uninterrupted silence grated on his nerves, the cowboys eyes hidden by the brim of his hat, peacekeeper still leveled with between his eyes and yet not even a twitch on the trigger. "FUCKING TAKE THE SHOT!" spittle flew from Reapers lips as he barked at the former Blackwatch agent. Jesse shook his head, pushing the safety of his gun back into position with his thumb before letting his arm slowly fall to his side "No" he murmured, holstering the weapon "I ain't like you, and I ain't no hero." he licked his lips "Ima give ya a chance here Gabe" taking a moment to adjust his hat, brown orbs settled on the floor, his other hand resting on his hip before he cleared his throat and lifted his gaze again to lock eyes with his former Strike Commander. "A chance to what?" Reaper growled, eyes darting to his weapon briefly "Beg for my life? For forgivness? Because that's not going to happen-" "-im givin' ya the chance t'do the right thing." Jesse interrupted with a stern tone, his brow furrowing "Y'all gave me a chance years ago, bout time I returned the favour" Jesse sighed, scratching the scruff under his jaw before continuing "This ain't you Gabe. All the mindless killin' and torture? This shit is below even the Blackwatch belt. It's jus' not right and ye know it" a slow inhale allowed the cowboy to resume speaking "Jus' let us help ya. Angie reck'ns she can-" "-Angela?!" Reaper laughed, the noise resonating from his very core and sending a chill down Jesse's spine "She's the one who turned me into this...thing! This monster! She will pay for what she did to me, I will- "-She wants te help ye Gabe, she's been work'n on it fer months now. Jus' come with us and give it a chance"  "Don't act like you give a damn. You ran. Ran like a scared little boy all those years ago and now you're telling me to come back. For what?! TO be experimented on? Don't make me laugh. You're nothing but a coward!" Jesse pinched the bridge of his nose, inhaling slowly before shaking his head, refusing to allow the comments to spike his temper. "Y'all know me Gabe, 'm like an ornery squirrel. Can't sit in one place too long, I get all fidgety" he cracked a smile "Ye I ran, m'be I was a coward fer doin' so. But don't you ever tell me I didn't give a dam after all we did. Y'all set me on the straight an' narrow when nobody else would even look at me. Gave me s'min worth fightin' for and I can't never thank ye enough fer that" he glanced round briefly, aware that he was needed elsewhere in the battle and exhaled slowly to calm himself "Look, I'm not tellin' ye to come with me. I'm jus' askin' ya to consider it. We all wanna help ya Gabe, jus' give us the chance" the pair locked eyes, silence falling between them for a moment before Jesse cleared his throat, scratching the back of his neck. "Well imma leave ye to it, I'm needed elsewhere" his word startled Gabe who had briefly let his claws brush over his gun "Think about it partner" Turning on his heels the cowboy took a meager two steps before Reaper snatched up a shotgun and rose to his feet, quickly levelling it with the cowboys back. The inaudible click of the safety drawing a sigh from Jesse and causing the gunslingers shoulders to slump slightly as he raised his hands in a meek surrender. "If yer Guna shoot me in the back, at least make it quick" Jesse chewed on the inside of his bottom lip and averted his eyes skywards, waiting for the loud bark of the shotgun and inevitable pain that would surely follow. "You always were a cocky son of a bitch. How you lived this long never fails to surprise me" Reaper lowered his gun slightly, then his gaze "I'll consider your offer....Ingrate." Jesse turned slowly and let a grin tug at his features, causing Gabe to shake his gun once in warning "Until then, if I find you at the end of my gun again I will not hesitate to take the shot. Understand?" Jesse nodded once, tipping his hat in confirmation, unable to stop the gentle smile on his face and slight smugness about him. "Take care of yerself Gabe" he nodded once at the Reaper, turned on his heels and jogged away, spurs jingling gently with each stride. O O O O "Howdy Darlin' miss me?" Jesse slid in behind cover, startling the poor Swiss medic who was seeking refuge. "Gott verdant Jesse...where have you been and what happened to your face?" blue orbs scanned his rugged features, noting the blood on the side of his head and the burn marks in his serape and on his armour. "Ran into an' ol' friend. Gave him an offer, reck'ns he'll consider it" Jesse let his back lean against the flipped over car they were sheltering behind as he rammed a speedloader into his peacekeeper and flipped the barrel effortlessly back into position. The gunslinger could feel the surprise gaze burning into him and smirked at the medic a she silently mouthed the name of the old Blackwatch commander. "Bingo" his robotic hand pressed itself against the floor as he readied to head back into the fight "Fer now we jus' wait and see. With any luck he'll see sense an' come see us" The second Angela nodded the cowboy vaulted over the car, his gun barking three times in quick succession as he took care of some Talon operatives lurking off to the side,their bodies hitting the ground second apart.  O O O O "Gah...!"  The sound of a body hitting the floor and the yell over comms drew the gunslingers attention away from firing wildly at the nearest roof top. He had been supplying suppressing fire for Genji and Tracer, keeping Widowmaker trapped behind a chimney while they worked their way over. Peacekeeper still aimed at the roof he pressed a finger to his ear "McCree reportin' yalright?" "N...not really Eastwood..." Jesse was immediately scanning the area when the sound of the Brazilian Dj echoed through the comms thick with static. Tipping his hat back Jesse scanned the area looking for the male soon had the gunslinger making a beeline for him popping off two more rounds into the Talon agent that had been looking for an easy kill in the downed medic. "Hey Partner, what's the problem?" Jesse crouched down beside the medic, wincing briefly at the mangled sound that came from Lucios damaged weapon. Low notes were warbles of noise while higher notes were like nails on a chalkboard enough to have the cowboy reaching over to silence it. "Hey Eastwood...t...thought you could all use a hand...guess it didn't work out" The medic was in pain, a sheen of sweat glistening on his brow and a dark crimson stain soaking his side drawing a concerned frown from Jesse before he placed a finger to his earpiece. "Doc? We got wounded. Ima bring him to ya, be ready Angie" Jesse smirked gently "Y'all be alright. I've seen worse, jus' keep yer hand on that wound till Angies had a look" he glanced around cautiously, grateful for the rest of the team. They were stopping them from being sitting ducks on the battlefield. "Reck'n ye can stand?" an apprehensive look to the blades on Lucios feet punctuated his questions and caused the Brazilian to follow his gaze. "Ye-yeah" "Alright let's get ye up" Jesse wrapped an arm around Lucio, letting the Dj throw an arm around his neck before taking slow breath "On three....1...2.....3" He eased the man onto his feet, hearing the stifled cry of pain emitting from the medic. They took a moment, allowing Lucio to steady himself on his blades, his head hanging and pained inhales escaping him periodically. "Ready?" Jesse asked before slowly easing the man into motion actually finding himself grateful for the skates as it allowed him to basically wheel the medic towards their destination. "I'm sorry Eastwood..." Lucio gasped the apology, focusing on keeping his blades straight.  "Hey, you ain't got nutin to apologise for. Let's jus' get that wound seen to. Besides you bet me you would be able to change my taste in music, an' I ain't loosin' that bet" he felt Lucio shudder and realised it was a result of a laugh escaping him. "I'll change your mind cowboy...rest assured" he winced and lifted his gaze "Thanks Eastwood" a smile spread across his pained features, Jesse shrugging off the thanks and gently getting Lucio to stand on his own for a second while he scouted ahead. It wasn't too far, providing they could rely on the other agents distracting Talon. He was soon moving with Lucio again, the medic trying his best to ease up on his grip and apologising softly when sharp waves of pain would cause him to grip tightly, embedding his fingers into the cowboys arm. Jesse didn't mind, he'd been on both sides of this and a bit of bruising to his arm wasn't going to kill him, nor would the bullet wound lucio was dealing with- "Look out!" Jesse had a split second to react and immediately shoved Lucio away, sending the already injured Medic sprawling to the floor. His gloved hand reached instinctively towards his peacekeeper, but the speed in which the large man closed the distance was too much for the gunslinger. Brown hues widened in alarm, the cowboy taking a half step back before the large golden fist collided square with his chestplate,  his feet leaving the floor, a feeling of weightlessness washing over him followed by excruciating pain and the sweet embrace of darkness. The loud bang that echoed as the cowboy connected with the concrete wall drew a number of concerned glances. The brickwork cracked and crumbled slightly, a cloud of debris slowly dispersing skyward and revealing the scene. The gunslinger had left a dent in the wall comparable to the scenes at Numbani airport a few months prior. Sat on the floor, coated with brick dust, his head was lulled forwards burying his chin in his chest with his eyes closed. The gunslinger unaware of the large shadow approaching his unconscious form,the large male flexing the doomfist gauntlet at his side. "You should seize opportunities when they present themselves Reaper. Do not show weakness, it will be your downfall" Akande glanced back at the cloaked male, a stern expression on his brow before he reached down and plucked the cowboy hat from McCree's head. The tatty fabric drew a look of disgust from the Talon leader as he looked it over about to toss it aside when a yell from behind grabbed his attention. "McCree!" Genji was the first to try and get to the scene, leaping down from a nearby roof and running towards the pair, drawing his sword. His feet were light on the ground, silent but as Akande watched the ninja approach he simply smirked before securing the Doomfist gauntlet around the cowboys chest and beginning to tighten his grip. Genji skidded to a halt immediately, cussing under his breath and watching helplessly as Akande chuckled at him. "Try me cyborg. I will crush him like an egg if you even move an inch" he could see the anger radiating from the suit and was about to remark when a strangled cough escaped the cowboy in his grip. Blood spurred past the gunslinger lips, his eyes struggling to focus before he realised the danger he was in and reached for his gun only to grunt ad the grip around his torso tightened. "Be still...you have a very important role to play" Akande hissed. Jesse drew in a pained wheeze and shook his head "N...whassat?" His words slurred together, every breath rattling in his chest and sending shockwaves of pain through his ribcage. His brown hues shifted to settle on Genji first,the ninja more than ready to strike given the chance before he looked to Lucio. The medic had propped himself up and was watching with an alarmed expression, ignoring the blood coating his side. "Release him!" Genji spat the orders angrily, grateful when Lena blinked into view, horrified by the scene unfolding. "Why would I do that? I have collateral here and you? You have nothing." Akande hauled the gunslinger to his feet, ignoring the pained animalistic noise that escaped him and keeping the doomfist gauntlet secured on him,  the tatty cowboy hat still held in his other hand. "You will let us pass. You will allow Talon agents to leave and in return I won't crush the cowboy into dust" he could see Overwatch agents straggling in to find the scene,  nervous gazes passed between them. Deafening silence filling the air as the offer was contemplated. "Stand down. Genji, Tracer step aside" the instruction came across the comms from Soldier 76 and despite Talon being unable to hear what was said it clearly bristled the agents as fury and confusion set in. "Stand down Genji..." The cyborg growled at the command before stepping aside, tightening his grip on his sword angrily. "Smart choice" Akande shoved the cowboy into motion, watching the gunslinger struggle to stay on his feet, head hung and brown hues fixed on the floor. One foot infront of the other was difficult but he would be dammed if he was going to let himself be frog marched away like some trophy. Jesse drew a slow breath before subtly unhooking a flashbang from his side, waiting for just the right moment to- The flashbang erupted with a blinding light, Akande rearing back and shielding his eyes for a moment. Jesse rounded on his heels and pulled his gun, slamming the robotic limb against the hamer to fan the bullets. Needless to say, he was surprised when the Doomfist gauntlet slammed into his gun, knocking it from his hands and sending it skittering across the pavement. "Sombra now!" The electricity went down in an instant, plunging the area into darkness and cutting out various electronics. Genji had moved to dash forward and assist only to find his enhancements failing and sending him flat on his face, communications went down for all Overwatch agents and McCree found his robotic limb hanging unresponsive at his side. "Nice try cowboy..." Jesse heard the voice dangerously close to his ear before catching glimpse of the still functioning Doomfist gauntlet as it swung at him, pummelling him into the ground. His head bounced of the pavement violently, the blow driving the air from his lungs before Akande loomed over him. His vision was swimming, the doomfist gauntlet pressing down on him to keep him pinned against the ground. As Akande raised his other fist with a smirk Jesse squeezed his eyes shut before the blow connected with his face and the world went dark. "Move out! We're done here!" Akande hissed over comms, hauling the unconscious gunslinger over his shoulder with ease and beginning to walk away only pausing when he heard a hissed command to stop from behind him. Glancing over his shoulder he chuckled at the sight of Genji desperately clawing to try and get back on his feet, cussing his enhancements and no doubt glaring daggers through his visor. Plucking the tatty cowboy hat off the floor he gently tossed it like a frisbee, watching it skip once off the ground and gently settle in of the cyborg, his hand grabbing at it. "We will stop you..." Genji hissed the words angrily, drawing a smirk from the Talon leader. "Stop me? Like that?" He laughed "It'll take much more than that to stop me, but you are welcome to try" turning away he left the cyborg with his words and disappeared towards extraction just as the lights returned to the area. Not bad for a days work.

Ah Switched at Birth series finale tonight? Who, like me, is (totally not) ready??

Yay thank you for pi­cking Bay from Switc­hed at Birth. She’s honestly one of my favorite characters of all time, especial­ly if restricting th­at to female, adoles­cent aged characters. I have so many tho­ughts about her but I don’t usually expl­icitly think of spec­ific or detailed hea­dcanons for her. I feel like Switched at Birth barely has a fandom, more just has some fans lol, and that’s part of that, perhaps. The only time I wrote fanfict­ion about Bay I wrote her as ace, in fact basically the exact same kind of asexu­al I am… but I really do NOT headcanon her as asexual at all. I think it’s possi­ble she’s bisexual, but I really just th­ink of her as straig­ht. As an example.

So onto the actual questions…

Headcanon A: what I think realistically

Ah this is a hard one to know what direc­tion to go in… I thi­nk Bay would have go­tten a lot more tatt­oos by now (I’m talk­ing during the curre­ntly airing season, which I know has only 1 more ep and then the entire series is over), but maybe for now they’re all under places where her clothing hides bec­ause she’s not brave enough to stand up to her parents about her new love of tat­toos?

What else is realist­ic… and headcanon is­h… hmm… I think she might have more desi­re than Daphne to ke­ep in touch with her biological (via Ang­elo) half sister who was adopted. I think she really FEELS family connections in general and one day soon she will meet more of Angelo’s fam­ily.

I think she could re­alistically be happi­ly childfree for her own life despite all the complicated pa­rental stuff she’s been through and thou­ght about, especially after seeing how hard parenting can be for Toby. I like he­adcanoning characters as childfree despi­te really wanting ad­optive parenthood my­self.

I bet Bay took a lit­tle more time than Daphne to start consi­dering the other a sister.

Headcanon B: what I think is fucking hi­larious

Hilarious headcanons for Bay… surprising­ly hard for me. Mayb­e… that she has a tu­mblr she uses to post ink jobs she's pr­oud of, or even that she used to self pro­mote things like her street art but pret­ending she wasn’t se­lf promoting, anonym­ously being all “oh wow isn’t this cool?” Or more generally I think she’d thrive online and spend mo­re time online than most of her family on any side, Kennish or Vasquez or whatev­er… idk.

Headcanon C: what is heart-crushing and awful but fun to inf­lict on friends

That she did inherit a high chance of ge­tting an anuerisym from Angelo? That she never real­ly fully forgave Reg­ina for not speaking up about the switch earlier and sometim­es the resentment sn­eaks up on her? That deep down, the biggest reason she worked so hard and so quickly to become as fluent in ASL as she could was not di­rectly to help her communicate with Emme­tt or Daphne. It was because she felt gu­ilty, she knew she should’ve gotten that illness when she was 3 and she should’ve lost her own heari­ng. She should’ve ne­eded to learn it for her own sake anyway.

I don’t know these are just some ideas really. Nothing is ac­tually a headcanon per se.

Headcanon D: what wo­uld never work with canon but the canon is shit so I believe it anyway It doesn’t work with recent canon but while I could see Bay forgiving her broth­er, I don’t see her forgiving Lily or Me­lody for “following the law” and making her life a Title wha­tever number Rape In­vestigation on that campus. Especially not Bay Kennish, vand­alism is a hobby, I’­ll just falsely claim I committed a felo­ny… I don’t see her really understanding that level of follo­wing the law when it hurt her so much. I think she felt betr­ayed and she would’ve continued to for much more than one ep­isode. I think she’d possibly be trigger­ed by these people even, at least for a while, and if Toby continued to date Lily right after that she might not even fo­rgive Toby. Idk. May­be that’s too harsh but Bay… needs to bl­ame people, and feels things strongly, idk.

I think Bay would ex­cel at college if sh­e’d decided to go, not just art schools like she applied to but a general univer­sity or liberal arts college, probably major in linguistics like I did actually, look at her Miss Fl­uent in ASL, English, and Chinese now… I mean idk if she was fluent in Chinese (Mandarin?) but whatever skills she has is really impre­ssive and more than I can do lol… I think she could make money being an ASL interpreter and then focus on art projects that were more her passion than tattoo­s? Idk it’s just an idea for what could work for her.

Headcanons wise in terms of wouldn’t work in Canon, one last one is… I think Dap­hne should’ve been way prettier than Bay. Obviously everyone on this show is gor­geous and boys chase after both Daphne and Bay. But… Regina and Angelo should’ve been relatively ave­rage looking people. The Kennish story is that he was an ath­lete and she was a pro cheerleader so I imagine they’d be pr­ettier people geneti­cally and stuff than average. I feel like this would lead to Bay not just having darker hair but also just be less amazi­ngly gorgeous than Vanessa is. In an alt­ernate universe, Bay and Regina would not be played by model level actresses, is all lol, and I think it could be intere­sting, if they strug­gled somehow more on that level? Beyond race of course. I do­n’t know… I probably should just be slee­ping…. lol. Not sure if this headcanon makes any sense.

hey! i was wondering if you had any advice for anyone who has just joined the community? how to get interactions and stuff like that? i've just joined and i'm not really sure what to do or how to set myself up

hey there! i’m working off the assumption that you know some basics. i’ve been in the rp for years now so a lot of this is borne from my own experience roleplaying here and what i wish people told me way back. it’s a lil harsh but i hope you’ll find this helpful

anyways, here’s a crash course:

ic =/= ooc: what this means is that, before you start roleplaying, remember that things that happen in-character are not supposed to be a reflection of out of character feelings. so, for example, if someone’s muse absolutely hates your muse, that doesn’t mean that the writer hates you. just because you, personally, hate a muse doesn’t mean that your muse should either. your personal assumptions about another character are unrelated and shouldn’t be reflected in what your muse assumes about another character. for example, you might personally think that iro.nman is overrated but your character might idolise him or aspire to be like him or be completely neutral; it’s not the same thing.

standard roleplay etiquette: read through all of someone’s available pages before you follow them; if someone’s taken the time to write up all those pages, take the time to read them. even if you think you’re a Veteran Roleplayer, who has seen every variation that you can about someone’s pages, read them. don’t reblog their out of character posts / headcanons / graphics unless it’s marked as okay to reblog. during interactions try not to godmod or metagame your partners ( if you don’t know what that is, a quick google search will help you out ). sometimes, certain blogs might cool with you following them but aren’t open to interacting with your character for various reasons ( for e.g. if your muse is someone who is dead in their canon and they want to keep that a fixed point, they might not be open to interacting with your character, especially if they have set headcanons already ) or they might not be okay with you following them at all – that’s okay, there’s plenty of other fish in the sea. people come and go in the rp community fairly often. keep your head up.

writing samples: if you’re really new to the rpc, and you’ve never written with anyone before, people might not write with you simply because they have no idea how you write. it’s nerve-wracking but start with some posts that show off your understanding and insight for your character; write some drabbles, do some character-development related things. that will help you for when you actually do start writing as well, because you’ll have developed your muse a little bit more!

get some pages set up: your navigation page isn’t all that important. if you’re playing a canon muse, neither is your bio page necessarily. what is important, and what will tell people the things they need to know about your blog and characterisation, is a rules page and also a verses page. even if your verses page is very basic, and isn’t very detailed or super pretty, that’s okay! get the information out there about what you’re willing & open to write, establish your boundaries and show people you’ve put some thought into your character.

work hard on your character: roleplay is a hobby and i’m fairly certain that this is an unpopular opinion but if your character is underdeveloped – if their personality seems to change for no discernable reason between each person you thread, and your writing style is in constant flux, it makes it really difficult to understand and for people to want to know your character. you don’t have to have someone completely fully fledged out, but work on them, on understanding and exploring them and making them have depth and people will get more interested.

try not to ask for interactions specifically based on ships: ships are wonderful and fun and really great but it can be really disheartening ( especially for female muses ) if you come to them specifically for the sake of writing to ship. it’s happened to me so many times and it’s both a sign that sb hasn’t read my rules and that they don’t really care about my muse, they just want to focus on shallow writing. not everyone is interested in writing ships, and some people might not necessarily be interested in writing ships with you. that’s okay! ships will happen naturally and hugely dependent on writing chemistry; it’ll happen in time.

don’t impose your backstory on other people: this applies to all types of characters, but the ones i see it happening with the most are original characters. if your character’s backstory assumes that somebody else’s muse has done something to / for your muse before you’ve even interacted, you’re probably better of writing fanfiction. many people – including myself – consider this a form of godmodding. 

stick to your guns: when you’re first starting out, it’s really easy to get sucked into doing threads that you personally feel like don’t go with your characterisation or isn’t headed where you want it to. feel free to drop them. stick to your character, and your interpretation. for example, when i was in the te//en wo//lf fandom, i was writing peter, and a lot of people were just looking for A Token Uncle to drag them, and not really interested in writing actual plots with me. it’s okay to want to write other threads; make your wishlist known.

roleplay is give and take: this is related to the one before but basically, don’t be selfish when you write, and don’t let others be selfish when they write with you. good threads that are enjoyable and memorable for both parties are threads where both partners ( or more, if you’re doing multi-player threads ) get to explore their characters and really build a character dynamic together. 

mix things up sometimes: it’s okay to want character consistency but try to mix things up when you’re writing threads with people; no one wants to have sixteen of the same kind of threads, especially from one person. try and mix things up and put a different spin to them! it’ll be fun for you and fun for your writing partner, too.

don’t steal things from other people: whether that means headcanons, verses or the exact way they’ve done their theme. i’ve even known people to go through duplicates’ blogs and basically reblog all their non-rp posts from the source. i’ve seen all kinds of stuff stolen and i’m here to tell you that people will notice. they always notice, whether it takes 5 mins or 50 years, people will notice. don’t do it.

focus less on your follow count: some ppl will have thousands of followers and only write with two people; others will have much less and write with most of them. the number of followers you have doesn’t matter; we’re all here writing because we have a character that we love very very much, whether that character is someone we’ve created or someone already existing in media. your follow count is not reflective of the quality of your writing; the quality of your interactions reflects that. so focus on building your character and character dynamics.

ugly truth #1 – the muse you play will reflect the interactions and attention you get: i’ve been in about five to six different fandoms since 2009, and i’ve noticed one thing – if you play a canon character, you’re more likely to get followers v quickly compared to original characters, regardless of if they’re fandom or fandomless ocs. if your muse is a cis man, you’re more likely to gain followers very quickly compared to if you’re playing trans man, women, trans women or enby folks. if you play a white person, you’re more likely to gain followers compared to if you write a person of colour, especially black muses. if you play a muse that does not ship sexually with men ( e.g. a lesbian muse or an ace muse ), you’re less likely to get followers very quickly. it’s an ugly truth, but don’t be discouraged. there WILL be people who write with you, you DON’T have to change your character in any way to make them more palatable. keep loving your muse and people will love them in return, i promise.

ugly truth #2 – aesthetics matter: they’re not reflective of quality of writing but they are used, in this rpc as a whole, as a way to measure the amount of time and dedication you put into your character. you don’t have to go and code a theme from scratch or create your own psds – although some people do, and if you can / like to, good for you! – but try and set up a nice, clean theme with clear links that isn’t one of the preset themes on this website. it’ll help so, so much with getting interactions, even if your theme is really really plain. it’s unfortunate that aesthetics do matter but no community is perfect.

ugly truth #3 – the rpc isn’t pretty: there’s always really disgusting people lurking around. there’s callout posts flying back and forth to the point you don’t know who to believe. whilst one person says one thing is okay, someone else says it’s not. there’s other petty drama, vagues everywhere. it’s pretty nervewracking and hugely intimidating. it’s likely that you’ll get involved. it’s very likely that someone could call you out for something you’ve written that they find is a problem. the rpc isn’t pretty – but neither is real life, and because we’re a community of people, Real Life Issues ( like racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, biphobia, islamophobia, anti-semitism, ethnocentricism, etc etc ) often get carried over to the online community. it’s not a pretty reality, but it is a reality that you’ll have to deal with, just like you would have to in real life. if someone points out that you really messed up, it doesn’t matter how long ago you did that thing, find out how to apologise sincerely for the hurt you’ve caused, and apologise properly. if you’ve overstepped your bounds, apologise properly. if someone is throwing baseless accusations, defend yourself clearly and calmly and the people who matter will know and understand. if you see something someone else has said or done or written, which is offensive, talk to them first ( and, yes, this means if you’re white and you see a mutual doing a racist thing, you should definitely go and talk to them ). the rpc isn’t pretty at all, but it’s our community – and now it’s yours, too. you have a social responsibility to make the community safe. 

the energy you put out is the energy you’ll receive: you’ve just joined the community but the community is huge and no one will necessarily go out to receive you. there’s no easy way to get interactions, but i firmly believe that the amount of time and effort you put out is what you’ll get in return. don’t just sit around waiting for other people to interact with you; make an effort. if they ask for compliments or constructive feedback, send something in. if they reblog memes and their blog is open to memes from non-mutuals, send something in. make starter calls, make open posts. ask for constructive feedback – maybe it’s something in your interpretation or the way you write that might put some people off ( and if it’s legitimate, think about it, and if it’s not or it’s something nitpicky, move on and find new people to follow ). i understand that it’s hugely nerve wracking – i’ve got anxiety as well, and i’m always nervous when following new people. in facti’m pretty guilty of this particular thing myself, even after all these years. but roleplaying isn’t like fic-writing; it’s necessary to interact with others. and, just like in real life, sometimes you just have to make the effort first and not keep track of how many times you’ve done it, and focus on the fact that you’ve got a ton of new friends and writing partners.

ok like,,, i’m actually So picky abt following ppl in the first place that unfollowing is rarely ever an issue, so i don’t really? Instant Unfollow ppl? i mean, i def would if i suddenly saw this person rp-ing like,,, non-con or csa or something along those lines on the dash. but for me, i usually end up unfollowing bc of more long-term / on-going stuff. untagged and/or excessive nsfw usually Does It for me. i just am not interested in pages upon pages upon pages of nsfw. it bores me and i get annoyed abt it p quick esp when there’s like (: no other interactions on the page (:. also like, in cases where ppl are racist/transphobic/homophobic etc i’m a little more lenient about it in that it doesn’t warrant an immediate unfollow from me (bc sometimes ppl genuinely do make mistakes, no one has Completely Unlearned all the prejudices and biases that have been built into society and i think it’s stupid to pointlessly penalise ppl who are still learning and growing as people) but i definitely will if a) you’ve CONSTANTLY & consistently been racist/transphobic/homophobic/ableist etc etc and b) when ppl call you out you don’t bother to listen or to issue a genuine apology. the One Time i instant unfollowed sb was, after being Dodgy for ages but not outright saying/doing anything Too Suspect, they made this huge clickbait post and went off on the dash abt how All These Sexualities And Gender Identities And Mental Illnesses Are Just Things Tumblr Kids Made Up For Attention and using slurs was Okay because their [insert minority] friend said it was okay but they’d Never Use It with a person who was [that specific minority] even though it’s Just A Word that doesn’t Mean Anything Bad because they Alone, as someone who is not part of [insert minority], Decided It. only real tumblr kids will remember that mess. but other than those instances i’m p chill abt unfollowing because i’m just SO PICKY abt following in the first place i’m suspicious of everyone sdflkjsdkfj

uhhhhh wayyy back in one of my Earlier Fandoms before i showed up here in m//arvel rp, i got into a whole bunch of drama that ended up with me losing all of my friends bc i decided to give sb they didn’t like another chance and i ended up getting death threats which is why i now use a pseudonym on this website bc those people are still around. they know my real name and where i live. (: so that was awful. there was also stuff that happened in the te//en wo//lf fandom and even on this blog but like, this was definitely The Worst by far.

absolutely, on a whole bunch of my blogs tbh, and most of the time it’s like? it’s not even Super Creative or anything just…think for urself? come up w/ ur own shit? i’ve had ppl lift arcs and verses and interactions and character dynamics w/ others (as in, they’d go and rp w a version of the muse i was writing with and do the Same Thread). and i gotta say there’s a consistent pattern to the ppl who do it: they are all yt women w/ no creativity of their own and Faux Positivity for women of colour and their creative work. we get it, susan, u’ve coasted by ur whole life on the efforts of other ppl (:
