Bay really got done dirty for most of Switched At Birth. By so many. One boyfriend enlists in the army without telling her, one cheats on her. Her bio mom makes so little an effort to actually BE her mom, unlike Daphne, who’s bio parents do nothing BUT try to be there for her and make up for all the time they lost--not to mention that Bay’s bio mom KNEW about her, and made the decision not to try to get her back, or even have any sort of contact with her. Her grandmother turns on her once she finds out about the switch, gives the cameo she’d always intended to give to Bay to Daphne, because “she’s blood” and makes so many racist and bigoted comments about Bay because she’s part Puerto Rican, and Grandma “can’t help seeing her differently.” Her parents always assume the worst in her, and never give her the benefit of the doubt, even going so far as to blame her for things that happen that are absolutely not her fault. She takes the fall for Daphne so she can go to medical school, and this ends up ruining all of her life plans, and ends up with a criminal record for something she didn’t even do. 

Not to mention she gets r*ped by her ex, and gets called a liar and whore and all sorts of other horrible things, he tries to pressure her into telling the school board that he didn’t in fact r*pe her (even though he did) and then has this whole sob story of “I got kicked out of school and can’t get a good job because you wouldn’t take it back,” and tries to make her feel guilty about his circumstances--and then her CLOSE FRIEND ends up in a relationship with him, and Bay is just supposed to be okay with it because her friend is going through a hard time (sorry, it’s still not okay to date the person who sexually assaulted your friend, no matter what’s going on in her life; but then again, MB basically said it was Bay’s fault for getting so drunk anyway, so are we really surprised?). 

She just gets constantly dumped on throughout the show, and made out to be this horrible person, or a whiny, spoiled brat, when really. . .Bay is the one that never fit in, was always searching, and when she finally got answers, was essentially told “Too bad, get over it, move on,” and wasn’t really allowed any time to grieve the life she should have had or process what happened to her. She’s just supposed to smile and deal with it, and she’s constantly compared to Daphne and basically told how much she falls short several times. And it’s all just really unfair, and I really feel for her.

Emmett is always cheating lmfao. Like whether it's on or with someone, where there's cheating there's gonna be Emmett 💀

(I am in mid S3 when Bay cheats on Tank with Emmett - I do not feel sorry for Tank though. I know I should because at this point he hasn’t done anything but his rapist ass already gets way too much sympathy in this show and I'm gonna enjoy watching him suffer as much as I can)

I figured it out. Daphne is the way she is because she's an only child, well she was raised like one. She only knows how to take and not share. That's why she reacts so negatively to Bay hanging out with Regina, or Emmett. I want to put Ty name down because her and Regina are like he's family but on the real they did not care about that man.

Rewatching Switched At Birth AGAIN.

One really frustrating thing that I haven't seen many people talk about is that there are several times where it is brought up that Carlton School is struggling financially and the Kennishes witness them lose programs and the school itself almost close, but yet NOT ONCE do they offer to donate money to the school BOTH THEIR DAUGHTERS GO TO.

John gets so upset when they cut the basketball team but then a few episodes later complains about how much money he gives to Buckner sports or whatever. Like DUDE ARE YOU DENSE??? You have one child still attending the rich white people school and he gives exactly zero fucks about going there so what are you even giving them the money for?

And Bay remarks that Kathryn could fund raise $5,000 out of mission hills in minutes but yet she never thinks to fund raise for Carlton? Even when she is literally at the school fighting to keep the play going? Not once does this ever occur to her??

I know it is mentioned in the episode where Daphne talks to the school board that the board is just full of bigots who only give money to the schools they favor but the Kennishes had so much power and could have done so much but they didn't and it makes me so upset.

To be fair, I guess we wouldn't have had the occupy carlton storyline if they had helped and that storyline was SO important for Deaf representation and raising awareness for how Deaf people are treated in the educational system.

But still. John and Kathryn suck for being rich and not using it to help Carlton.

I reconnected with Switched at Birth yesterday and I started to re-watch and I forget how I was in love with Bay Kennish back in the day. She was so beautiful and cute, she had a light in her that was contagious. I love her personality and her smile is gorgeous! <3

I know it’s a really small fandom. But I hadn’t found too many fix its for Bay and Emmet. So if anyone is still wanting those, I made one! The two of them totally belonged together. I kind of dragged Travis and Tank through the mud a little. But if anyone wanted me to write a follow up clearing Travis’ name, I can!

Can someone please tell me when I'm going to start liking Emmet again? I can't imagine it, but I know he and Bay will probably get together again soon.

How do you even begin to forget and forgive everything he's done? I really liked him at first, but he just went downhill from there.

He kissed Daphne and never told Bay.

He treated Bay horribly when he was mad about her meddling. I get that he was upset, but seeing it from her perspective made it so frustrating. Cut her some slack! I was already annoyed at him and than BAM!

He cheated on her and then acted like everything was fine.

He played the biggest victim, and the other characters encouraged it—"Poor sweet Emmet, he's so sorry."

He suffered no real consequences. The contrast between how people treated him vs. how they treated Simone was wild. He was back to being friends with both siblings within weeks like nothing happened, while she was ostracized. Pure misogyny.

He acted insanely jealous of Bay’s only friend at school as if she didn’t already have enough problems.

And now he’s acting all sad because he doesn’t want them to be just friends?

I wanted to grab him and throw him into a river. The audacity, the nerve. If he can't even be her friend after everything HE did to her, at a time when she's already overwhelmed and just wants a friend, then he doesn't deserve to be in her life at all.

I so wish I kept wish ASL back in high school but even then (cuz of this show!!) I learned some but not enough to talk with it.. I can kinda tell signs but not enough to know know. Sigh need an app like Duolingo but for ASL.. all the ones I find aren’t free after one or two lessons. Or just aren’t helpful. I used to use lifeprint but I like how Duolingo is laid out more like ‘game’ lessons to help idk.
