Tuneless Wonders
[Beckett Harrington x Emma Carlyle Masterlist]Â
Pairing: Beckett Harrington x Emma Carlyle (F!MC) Book: The Elementalists Word Count:Â >600 Rating/Warnings:Â general, no warnings, all the fluff Prompts: @choicesjanuary2024 aurora (borealis); @choicesficwriterscreations
Synopsis: Emma shows Beckett that the tuneless world has magic of its own.
It has been FAR too long since I've commissioned art of these two. So I am very excited to have been able to commission this piece by the ever talented ArtByAinna (IG) to kick off our TE @choicesbookclub
The vibrant hues of the aurora borealis painted the sky in a mesmerizing dance of celestial colors. Beckett and Emma found themselves at a secluded spot, away from the prying eyes of their friends. The ethereal lights shimmered overhead, casting a magical glow upon the landscape.
âDidnât I tell you?â Emma teased, lacing her fingers with his as she rested her head on his shoulder. âThe tuneless world has its own magic.â
Beckett couldnât help but be captivated by the enchanting display painting the sky. âWow,â the only word he could manage slipped quietly from his lips, his gaze fixed on the celestial wonder above.
Emmaâs eyes sparkled with a blend of awe and admiration. âNature's magic is unparalleled. Earth has her own set of spells that she blesses us with."
A surge of appreciation for a magic he had never considered before washed over him. Beckett had read of this natural event in books, of course, but he never imagined them quite like this. In his readings, it was simple. It was science, just a bit of chemistryâan interaction of particles, solar wind, and the Earthâs magnetic fieldânothing special. Yet, the reality of what he thought nothing of, now, left him breathless.
Emmaâs words continued to resonate with him as he stood entranced. He couldnât deny the magnificent enchantment surrounding them. He slowly breathed in the cold air, letting it fill his lungs, the moment overwhelming him in the best way. As he exhaled, Beckett attempted to let go of the complexities of magical academia he had spent his life mastering, allowing room for this new appreciation for the tuneless wonders he never would have understood without her.
âItâs breathtaking,â he whispered, his words of reverence drifting from his lips in wisps of warmth against the cold air.
Emmaâs gaze met his cool, grey eyes, which shimmered with the colors of the heavens. âPerhaps natureâs magic is the truest form. No spells, no textbooksâjust the raw, untamed beauty of the world. Maybe thatâs where it all started. Maybe this and other examples of Earthâs magic is the origin of all other magick we know.â
âThank you.â His fingers brushed tenderly across her cheek as he cradled her face.
âFor what?â She smiled softly.
âFor sharing this with meââ he began, his gaze drifting once more to the beautiful dance above them. "âfor convincing me that there are wonders and magic I still don't understandâ" His words were quieter now, ââand... for being smarter than me.â
âWhat was that?â Emmaâs brow quirked with mischief. "I couldnât quite hear youâ"
âYou heard me well enough.â
She considered it for a moment. âI think I heard you say I was smarter than youâthe one and only, Beckett Harrington. Are you sure youâre feeling alright?â She rested the back of her hand against his forehead.
He shook his head. âYouâre enjoying this too much.â
âWell, if you want me to stop, you know what you have to do.â She grabbed the lapel of his navy peacoat, pulling him closer, their noses brushing together.
His freckled cheeks flushed at her gesture. âYouâre impossible.â Beckettâs words were lost as he closed the gap between them. As their lips met, the warmth of her kiss seeped deep into him, a radiant glow that warmed him inside and out, like the gentle embrace of the soothing sun on a cold winters day.
The celestial lights above bore witness to their kiss, a moment of pure magic that rivaled the magic of this world and the magick of their studies.
I haven't written Beckett in... I honestly don't know how long 2, maybe 3??? years!?! I hope that our Book Club replay of TE will inspire some more Beckett and Emma stories. So far, I really only ever wrote them in my Detention Series.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this!

A/N: Hey guys Iâm back on my elementalists brainrot!! So I know that thereâs some difference in my headcanons again - like that my mc (Anna) makes art and posts it on social media as a hobby and that sheâs a double major (idk what subjects yet). And Atlas grew up in a Slavic country (Iâm thinking the Czech Republic) but making little stories about them is part of my livelihood now! Yes, these are purposefully set in 2020 (no covid in this au ofc) because I wanted this thread in particular to be set when they just started their junior year. These were really fun to make! I know that I have a horrendous track record when it comes to making a series so Iâm probably wonât make a twitter AU one but I might do more! Please tell me if you enjoyed this and would like to see more! Reblogs and like really help out and comments make my day!Â

Promise?
Paring: Beckett Harrington/Eli (F!MC)
Word Count: 1.544
Summary: In the middle of what could be the end of everything, the only thing she could trust was Beckett.
I miss him so impossibly much, so I am posting this old thing.
The heavy door closed behind her back and she simply stood still while Beckett paced around the room, looking at the large bookcases searching for god knows what.
She didn't need to know him as well as she did to know that he was doing his best to hide what he was feeling and she didn't want to think about the fact that he was doing it for her.
He was always like that ever since she knew him. Always trying to hide anything negative that could ever come from him. Any defect, any weakness, any bad feeling.
Once he had told her that Katrina was a very positive person, always being optimistic in face of any difficulty, and that it was something that his parents deeply appreciated and complemented her about.
Either she was a saint or Becketts's family really was perfect, that she didn't know, what she did know was that he was about to create a hole in the ground considering how much he paced around those bookshelves.
Surely books were capable of teaching very important things, but Eli really doubted that he would find a âHow to defeat a psychopath child murdered 101â in this small room, or anywhere really.
He turned around to look at her when she gave a tired sigh, more nervous than he had been the entire night, which only made her sigh deeper.
-You are going to make a hole in the ground, Beckett. Just sit down.
-I just need to find a book that can perhaps help us, Eli. Everything is alright.
She simply pointed towards the big armchair, looking at him, almost pleading.
-Please.
And he simply followed the instructions, as always, unable to deny any of her requests. She simply followed him, sitting down sideways on his legs and burying her head on the juncture between his neck and his shoulder, slowly breathing him in.
-We should be getting ready.
She took her head from itâs hiding place when she heard his voice, the sadness crept into her face until she saw the red tinting his cheeks.
-Do you not like it? Should I get up?
His only answer at that moment was to place his hand on the small of her back and pull her closer to him, making her give him a smirk and making his cheeks almost maroon.
Perhaps they should have changed before going there, her dress was not making her very comfortable while she was almost laying on his legs, her torso completely rested on his and her legs above the armchairâs arms. Still, the way he softly ran his fingers up and down her back gave her all the comfort she could ever need.
-I will never not like having you on my arms, Eli. I just believe one of those books are bound to help us. Even if there's just a magick that helps to calm you down a little, I know that I have actually done something good.
-Thereâs no need for any spells or anything of the sort. You are calming me down just fine. -He placed his hand on her cheek, making her rest her face into it almost like a cat, closing her eyes and completely leaning into his touch. -I don't think you understand how much you mean to me, Beckett.
-That's utter nonsense. If anything, it's more likely you are the one unaware.
-Then tell me.
-EliâŚ
She opened her eyes, honey golden meeting metal gray. She could see that he didn't want to talk about it, at least not now, because she could see his eyes apprehensivily looking towards the bookcases and into her eyes again. He leaned forward, kissing her on her small elevation on her nose a little under the middle point between her eyes.
-Do you not wish to talk about it when we come back? It'll be another reason to return.
She placed her hand on his face, rubbing her thumb against his cheeks and counting his freckles, maybe for the last time.
-I don't know if we'll have the opportunity to talk about this after now. -She placed her thumb over his lips when she noticed that he was about to interrupt her. -He is the most powerful attuned in the world. Capable of controlling life and death. It would be too optimistic of me to assume that we'd simply win that easily over him. That's why I have something to ask you.
She looked deeply into his eyes, her finger still on his lips, but she was no loger leaning against him. Now her back was perfectly aligned and straight. He simply nodded to her making her give him a sad smile.
-I will do my very best to kill that psycho and comeback. But if I'm unable to, I want you to grab Atlas and our friends and run.
He looked at her completely unsettled and shaked his head, taking her hand from his face and holding it on hers.
-Do you take me as such a weak man that I'll watch the woman I love dying and then ran away?
She wanted to cry. To melt on his arms. To run away from all of this. She wished to wake up from that nightmare. To wake up on her bed covered by her thinck blankets and by him while she listened Atlas very loud snores coming from Shreya's room.
But she couldn't.
She'd never know peace until that man was dead, and Zeph needed them. It was her fault he was taken and she would pay for it.
-No. I think you are the strongest and most resourceful besides Atlas and me. But there's one thing that you are more than the two of us. Logical, rational and the one more capable of keeping your feelings in check. Atlas isn't. If I die, that will break her. That's why I am asking you that. Because you are the one I love, the one I trust the most, the one who also has a sister that he loves. That's why I'm asking you to save my little sister, my only blood family who's alive, and the friends that we love so much. Please, Beckett. Please.
His eyes glistened with tears that he refused to let run. The ones that carried grief for the woman that was still breathing into his arms.
He kissed her face all around. Her forehead, her eyes, her temple, her cheeks and her lips before pulling apart to look into her eyes.
-You will survive, Eli Russel Sollaris. We will finish the year and my grades will be so much bigger than yours that you will loose you spot as favorite from all the professors. -She let out a wet laugh to that, clearly remembering his face when Professor Englund called her his favorite student in front of him. -Then we'll get our vacation and I'll get myself one of those tuneless cephphones so we can talk during the entire summer, because I cannot even stand the thought of spending a day on my life not hearing your voice. I will introduce you to my family and I also want to meet yours, because anyone important to you is also important to me. Then we will comeback to here, and I'll hold you hand and kiss you all the time and put curses to anyone that looks at you for too long. And I will sleep every single day with you on my arms and wake up to your kisses. Forever.
The tears streamed down her face, and he kissed every single one of them away while the smile on her lips came back to life. The first time it had happened ever since Zephyr had been taken.
-That sounded too much like a proposal for two people that are not even dating yet, Harrington.
He smirked at her, rubbing his thumb on her cheek.
-Funny you saying that, because a little bird told me that you called me your boyfriend in front of some students in Professor Kontosâ class.
-Would you say that little bird is about 1.63cm tall and insanely rich?
-I would say that that little bird said that you were almost green with jealousy and that the little bird was scared that you were going to throw a fireball at someone.
-Nonsense, I only do that to you.
He let out a loud laugh, hugging her closer to him and rubbing his nose against her cheek.
-You should know that you have no reason to be jealous. That I am completely yours. Your friend. Your boyfriend. Anything you want from me Eli. Anything.
She rested herself on him again, placing her head on his shoulder and sighing.
-Do you promise then?
His silence only lasted a couple seconds, but it felt like an eternity. The entire room felt cold as he sighed and rested his own head above hers.
-I promise you, Eli. I promise that⌠if it gets down to it, I'll comply to your wish.
She smiled to herself, knowing that he couldn't see it, and hugged him closer.
-I love you, nerd.
-And I love you a lot more, my sunlight.
And then, they parted towards an inescapable future.

The Elementalists 2 Mini Book Club
I kinda feel bad abandoning The Elementalists completely because I know there were a few people who were looking forward to it so I've come up with an idea for a mini book club.
Choices is currently hosting a binge reading event that will continue through April 4, so if you are looking to play TE2 and earn some rewards, the next 4 days are perfect for that.
I'm keeping the book club open a week through April 8 which is the day of the Total Solar Eclipse (of which, đ¤ I will be traveling to see the totality!) and that event kinda felt fitting to close this book club.
Basically read at your own pace over the next week. Tag @choicesbookclub and #choices book club in whatever content you want related to TE2 (screenshots, fics, art, songs, moodboards, etc) and I will reblog it!
I am not planning to do any chapter specific questions or polls however, should I have time to throw some random polls up throughout the week I will.
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions or concerns. This was a quick last minute thought and I hope that some people will enjoy this mini book club!

Detention VII.V: A Brush of Magic
[Beckett Harrington x Emma Carlyle Masterlist]Â
Pairing: Beckett Harrington x Emma Carlyle (F!MC) Book: The Elementalists (early in book one) Word Count:Â ~ 700 Rating/Warnings:Â general, no warnings (grumpy/sunshine) A/N: This is part of my Detention series at the beginning of TE1 and my Stolen Moments: brushing hair back series.
Synopsis: Emma tracks down a particularly mischievous book, while Beckett gets caught in their path.
Emma's brow knitted together in determination, her gaze narrowing on a particular mischievous edition of The Enchanted Pixie Scrolls. She tiptoed through the stacks, trying to hide in the shadows. No matter how quiet or how stealthy she was, the book swooped and twirled in the air, taunting her at every turn. If she hadn't known better, she would have thought there were actual pixies inside, laughing at her dismay. The thought lingered a moment as she considered it...it couldn't be, could it?
She shook her head, turning her attention back to her quest. It didn't really matter. The end result was the same; she needed to reshelve that book before she could leave detention for the day. Her gaze swept over the space. "Now, where did you go?"
Airy giggles floated behind her, the corner of the hard cover poking her in the back. She spun quickly, lunging toward the book. Her fingers brushed against the book's cool leather spine, but it fluttered away. "Get back here!"
She dodged left and right, avoiding other books and students, tracking the elusive book through the library. A playful smirk pulled at her lips. She shouldn't. It probably wouldn't even work... but what if it did?
Too late to turn back now.
With careful consideration, she leaped forward, a quick spell slipping from her lips as the floating books in the aisle came together, creating something resembling floating stairs. She tried not to waste time thinking about Beckett's horror if he saw her stepping on books. He was already wound so tight it might push him too far.
Each book shifted under her weight, her stride wobling under the uneven stairs; however, she was too far committed to give up now.
She lept up one more level, then jumped forward, extending her arm just as the book attempted to flit away again. "Oh, no, you don't!" This time her efforts were rewarded, and her hand clasped around the hard front cover of the book. Emma's added weight caused the book to drop...fast. Emma struggled to hold onto the book as it fought to be free. She quickly mumbled a spell, the air swirling around them, slowing but not stopping their descent.
"Watch it!" Beckett growled, trying to step to the side, but it was too late.
Emma and the book landed with a thud right on top of one Becket Harrington, his now trademark grumpy scowl growing.
"I got the book!" Emma declared proudly, lying across his ches. Her bright eyes filled with her accomplihsment as her gaze met his, not noticing how close they were.
"Good for you."
"Oh, don't pretend you're not at least a little bit impressed."
"You seem to be congratulating yourself sufficiently already."
Emma rolled her eyes as she eased herself off of him. "You don't need to say it. Your cute flushing freckled cheeks tell me all I need to know."
Despite his protest, the color only grew deeper at her words.
Emma ran her hand over his broad shoulders and chest, smoothing his blazer as he stood beside her. "There, all better. Not a hair out ofâ" Her words paused as she noticed a stray strand of his brown hair hanging over his forehead. Her fingers gathered the offending lock, brushing it back over his head. His hair was softer than she expected. Her fingers lingered, raking gingerly through his silky hair.
His eyes closed as he leaned into her touch. The frown on his face softened, giving way to something she might even consider a smile. The pair drifted closer, their faces only a breath away.
"Emma," her name slipped from his lips as his eyes met hers. He leaned forward, closing the gap until something smacked against their chests.
The book, still clutched in Emma's free hand, flapped between them, breaking the moment.
Beckett cleared his throat. "We should get that back where it belongs beforeâ"
Emma cut him off before he could continue his thought. "âbefore you break your no-kissing rule and have to admit you like me." Her brow rose playfully.
She expected him to protest, his ears reddening, betraying his words, but he didn't. He paused before her. His cool grey eyes filled with rare openness. With careful precision, his long fingers gathered a loose curl of her hair, tucking it behind her ear. "Just returning the favor."
Without another word, he turned. "This way," he directed, leading them to where the book belonged.
Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed this little bit of silliness! đ
