people, “fans”, attacking an actor on twitter because his views of a character and wishes for him don’t align with theirs, calling him names, mocking him for his hairstyle, starting tag-wars and begging for a ship to become canon and I’m honestly speechless.
criticizing creative decisions for a character, wonky storylines, questionably written female characters and plotholes is good and fair - but only if it happens on a factual and grounded basis which is absolutely not the case here.
we, as fans, should never feel entitled to how a story’s gonna play out - never, ever, ever. we can voice our sadness, share our stories and opinions, but we are not entitled to see the story play out exactly how we want it to. Never ever ever.
I don’t know if y’all remember the marketing of The Last of Us Part II, the switched out trailer, indicating Joel is alive when in fact he dies about half an hour into the game - now THAT was hard as fuck as well, but nobody screamed or lost their minds about “false marketing.” Because guess what marketing is?
A story is a story, and once you stop enjoying it, it’s absolutely your right to tune out of it and to look for your enjoyment elsewhere and pour your passion into anything else - but it’s never your right to harass people and to ruin the experience for everybody else.

ISTG the parallels and callbacks this season part 2 (part 1 here):
(Tiny spoiler for TBOC 2X6)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, the context, without revealing too much of the plot, is that Fallou decides to stay back rather than continue through the Euro tunnel to the UK, because he has “a reason for staying now…”
Tumblr media
…the reason in question being new-found love…
Tumblr media
As they make their way through the tunnel, Daryl looks back to see them holding hands, much like we saw with Daryl and Beth in 4x13 Alone…
Tumblr media
…when it was Daryl who had found a reason for staying…
Tumblr media
I’m not crying, you’re crying…

Do you know what it means to not believe in God? Everything is pointless, no great beyond to thank or pray to. You lose hope and you got nothing but your shaky legs to pull you up. Do you know what it means to lose everything you ever cared for? For most of your life it was just rusty metal parts and people who spoke of peace as if it was a dirty word. A caress that echoed like a slap, the sting of leather on your back.
And then there she is. On the other side of the Atlantic, saving you again and again and again as if you're worth it. You, who denounced her like Peter did to Christ not because you don't love her but because you always thought that a rotten thing like you was doomed to never hold something blooming like her.
You found something in France. Yes, you did; like a castaway on a deserted island. You thought you were born to follow and for the first time you got to lead; not pretending to be something. That you're not; a weapon and an open wound at the same time. You saw a boy who never knew of pain and thought that if you kept him pure then maybe a part of you would heal.
And still, you didn't believe in God.
It only took her again to raise your eyes and thank the invisible. You forget about the blood in your hands, the next battle, the ghosts in your head. She is the miracle, you would fall to your knees for. And she is there, not in a dream but in front of you. A body to hug, a hand to hold, a shirt to grab on to. Real. She is bones and blood and a pumping heart.
No, you never believed in God and you don't think you'll ever will; but if this life has taught you something, if you believe in one thing, then it's her. It's always going to be her.
Carol.

Norman once said about Daryl, “he wears his heart on his sleeve and he means what he says, and if he falls in love, he’s going to fall in love forever”. This spinoff has proved that’s false. Or more likely, it confirms that the “i love you” between Daryl and Carol was indeed platonic. He loves her but he’s not IN love with her. Because if Daryl was in love with Carol, then he wouldn’t have developed feelings for Isabelle and he certainly wouldn’t have kissed her or started planning a future with her.
I just feel like everyone tried so hard to sell a Caryl story and made sure that they took advantage of Carylers hopefulness to tease us something that we couldn’t believe might FINALLY happen. They started using TWDCaryl as a hashtag and all of the actors and EP’s (yes, including Melissa) spread just enough “hints” and content to keep us hanging on. We naively thought that the lack of mention of Isabelle meant that she wouldn’t be a concern because it was a Caryl story and if she had any importance, then she would have more mention. We had absolutely no idea what was coming our way. What we were actually getting. No one except the anti’s thought it would be what it ended up being.
Then Zabel opened his mouth and made his thoughts about Caryl perfectly clear. Then Norman did (plus he low key hates Carylers I think?) and Melissa said that she never knows what to say when people tell her that they want Carol and Daryl together romantically and that she likes them the way they are. And then AMC doubled down on the whole BFF thing. The signs were there. People started pulling away but some stayed hopeful.
Then the whole season got released. And clips were posted of Isabelle’s actual importance to the story. She (and Laurent) is the bulk of Daryl’s storyline. His developing feelings for her, their kiss, planning their future together, her death and then Daryl’s mourning at the loss for the remainder of the season (and into S3 apparently). Then Laurent becomes his primary concern. Carol plays ZERO role in Daryl’s world until she shows up and even then, she’s there to support him through his man pain.
Now we’re here with 2 episodes left and while some Carylers are still here for the ride, many more are not watching S2 and now with Isabelle’s death, the Darabelle/ABC shippers are pissed off and threatening not to watch. It just feels like a series of bad decisions. I know we still have S3 but who is gonna still be around to watch it?

BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH as Benjamin the beggar, in THE BOOK OF CLARENCE (2024)
"Casting Benedict's character… it was just a joy that he would embraced it as well, it's very daring it, it has its arc, it was just a joy, it's one of those moments where you really appreciate what you do… When I cast Benedict, when we were on set with him, it was amazing, it was amazing." Jeymes Samuel, director. x

I finished.
I'm sorry but that ending was so underwhelming? Spoilers below.
And it really shows that it's the script that's lacking bc Melissa delivered all her acting in her scene with Sophia, but I was still like 'what is going on?? what just happened? oh is it over?'. I have NO IDEA what the script was trying to deliver there. And that is so disappointing bc I anticipated the sophia arc for years, and Melissa was incredible, but the script did not perform.
And I don't even know what to say about daryl's hallucination. I again have no idea what I'm supposed to take?? What's he feeling? OK so he's not like his grandad bc he won't die there? Okkkk. What does that deliver for him in terms of guilt, emotion, bonds? I am confused.
Also. Why was it isa? What does she represent to him? That's unclear. His crying at the end was nice acting, but I didn't know why he was crying???? Am I stupid???
I normally feel like I know what daryl's thinking but I had no idea what was going through his head.
And then they're just casually meeting back up. So underwhelming.
The acting was solid (except the Scottish people, that was horrendous), but the script was not good.
Also I'm lost on "you can't always get what you want, but you get what you need". I somehow doubt they were thinking about Carol for that, but I get that meaning for Carol. But for Daryl?? What did he want, and what did he get that he needed?? I still don't know.
