Okay so. As I’ve said i’ve been deep diving into historical (fashion/uniforms mostly tbh) of Edo periods firefighters. Aka Hikeshi. I am not an expert and I haven’t written in a while and haven’t slept much in a couple days so uh bare with me and please correct me if you know more.

There are of course so many similarities and influences of Hikeshi and their history in Promare. I’m mostly going to just name a few very obvious ones and possibly get too into ‘thinking too much about an anime’ mode on a couple.

Looking up Edo firefighters brings a ton of articles nicknaming it ‘The city of Fires’. “ Edo (sometimes called City of Fires), was perhaps the most fire prone city in the world; there is a saying, “Fires and quarrels are the flowers of Edo, yet the greater essence is the fireman”. There were over five hundred major fires alone in the period between 1851 and 1867. “ There was a mix of reasons for the constant fires, the hot dry weather conditions, how homes were mostly built with timber and paper, the urban population growing quickly and being confined to small places, and...arson. Arson was a factor as the city was restless with their government and many people were in poverty that burning their own houses and commiting crimes as they felt they didnt have much else to lose from doing so. I honestly recommend just quickly reading the wiki article on the arsons committed during that time as many were of the fires were considered something good or positive. All of this are easy comparisons to the Promare universe, though with a fantastical twist of the Burnish being fire alien hosts.

Hikeshi (firemen) units arose to prevent the fires from spreading. Hikeshi were seen as more of a ‘gang’ and were ‘lawless’ as they didn’t obey police authorities. “ A cross between gangsters and firefighters, these men were heroes to the urban population and feared by the authorities for their lawlessness and bravado. “ They worked for the communities safety first and foremost. And Galo sure has a lot of bravado.

As arson was a big factor in the fires, the government created a position outside of Hikeshi that was meant to capture and persecute arsonists. The arsonists punishment was to be burned at the stake. “ As a warning to the public, arrested arsonists were paraded through the city and burned at the stake. “ All this is holds very simple comparisons to how Burning Rescue and Freeze Force operate. There is a lot of tension between Ignis and Vulcan in how each organization handles these ‘fires’. The sad scary influence of this history in Promare being that those who caused the fires were to die by fire.

Galo and his Matoi is a very obvious historical refrence and the movie even explains the pride of Hikeshi spirit in Galo’s slideshow. A very simple definition of a Matoi is a flag used to notify people of a fire and to draw attention to other firemen to help put out the fire. It’s not.. a weapon in the way Galo uses it. Each unit had there own Matoi to identify themselves. There were people who were assigned as Matoi holders of each unit and would infact do what Galo does in being loud and waving the Matoi around and were very much needed and respected in their units.

When I was looking all this up I was mostly researching different things about their uniforms and historical fashion. Looking up Matoi’s you can see how elaborate and unique they were with each Hikeshi unit.

Understandable how Galo’s Matoi was his symbol of pride and handcrafted with such love. Lio making a Matoi for him afterwards must've meant a whole lot to Galo besides the fact of Lio just even remembering what it was. Lio actually payed attention to that slideshow of Galo’s.. he must’ve!

I could talk a bit about the historical uniforms and how intricate and unique each hand embroidered and hand dyed and layer outfit was but ... that doesnt have a connection to Promare and I really do wish Galo had his own unique hand stitched uniform inspired by the Hikeshi. I just headcannon Galo has their old great grandfathers uniform that somehow survived the family’s housefire.

Hikeshi were mostly known to put out fires by destroying and collapsing the houses that were on fire. It was the best means to prevent the fires from spreading. Yet another method was used, “ a type of wooden pump operated by manpower called ryūdosui (竜吐水, "dragon spraying water") was used, but it never became a fully viable means of firefighting due to the lack of uninterrupted water supply. “ Possibly an influence for Lio’s dragon but.. dragons were a big thing in many ways in history so it could be argued that this particular instance in of ‘dragon spraying water’ is just a coincidence and didn’t make the Promare creators go ‘oh lets have a dragon for this exact reason!’.

Sooo there is many things in Promare that was directly influenced by Edo’s history. Galo’s Matoi and passion for Hikeshi being the very obvious one pointed out by the movie itself. But also the power imbalance by the government and the poorer community and how arson and playing with fire was a way to fight back against those in power and how those in power fought back with pure cruelty by turning the arsonists into ash as a warning to others.

Pomare’s creators state how Promare’s main theme is the influence of propaganda skewing facts and causing prejudices. They were focusing and more modern day issues but of course history is very similar to the present in some unfortunate ways sometimes. They may or may not have meant these particular parts of history to be similar to Promare’s plot or storyline and maybe weren’t influenced at all by these events. I just felt like sharing and this is what felt very similar and interesting to state.

If I do have anything wrong or you have more information please add on! Like I stated before I was mostly reading and looking into historical fashion with the Hikeshi when looking them up so i am definitely missing some information.

Phase One: Avengers (Part Two)

Apparently I had so much to comment on this crappy book that I had to break this up into two parts (you can read part one here). No, I have nothing to say for myself. Lol

Let’s continue.

Clint Barton and Loki’s hand-picked strike team were in a stolen Quinjet with a faked S.H.I.E.L.D. call sign, 26-Bravo. That got them close enough that by the time the air-traffic officer on the Helicarrier knew something was wrong, it was already too late.

Whoa whoa whoa. I thought you said Loki didn’t care about the details. I thought you said such things were beneath him. Make up your mind.

With a last heave and twist, she freed herself from the fallen beam and ran. At that moment, the Hulk turned and saw her. She vaulted up a stairway and onto the next level. The Hulk swiped at the stairway and shredded it into scrap metal. Loki had gotten what he wanted. He must have been trying to time it so he could manipulate Bruce into becoming the Hulk right as his soldiers came to attack the Helicarrier. The Hulk would do at least as much damage from the inside as the rogue Quinjet could do from the outside.

Yes. Yes, he did. Lol

Natasha kept running, and the Hulk came right behind her. For a moment, she thought she’d lost him, but then he came at her out of the shadows, roaring. He was like walking rage, a single-minded engine of destruction. She shot a hole in the pipe over his head. Steam shot out of it into the Hulk’s eyes, stopping him for just the moment she needed to get a head start. She ran as fast as she could, but she knew she wasn’t going to stay away from him for long. He came after her, smashing through bulkheads and doorways like they weren’t even there and roaring the whole time.

Mood, though.

Steve got to the edge of the turbine mount about the same time as Tony. “I’m here!” he called out.

“Good,” Tony said, dropping into view and hovering in the Iron Man armor to survey the wreckage. He had the suit on, and Steve could hear his voice through the earbud microphone all S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel wore. At least that channel was still intact; if they lost communications, they’d be done for.

Convenient. Clint would absolutely know this, which means either 1) he's incompetent, 2) he's not as mind-controlled as we think, or 3) Loki allowed/arranged for his own team's semi-failure.Take your pick.

“What’s it look like in there?” Tony asked.

“It seems to run on some form of electricity,” Steve said.

Tony was shoving loose huge pieces of debris that prevented the turbine blades from rotating. “Well, you’re not wrong,” he said.

Steve fumed. He wasn’t here for technical support. But that was all he could do at the moment.

Ironic for Steve to call out Tony for being useless without his suit when Steve is apparently useless at anything other than beating people up. Lol

Tony stood inside the turbine housing, looking at the blades. He’d cleared most of the debris jamming the rotors. “Even if I clear the rotors,” he said, “this thing won’t reengage without a jump. I’m going to have to get in there and push.”

“If that thing gets up to speed, you’ll get shredded,” Steve said.

Hey hey hey now, I thought Tony wasn't the type of guy to sacrifice himself??

The Hulk stomped around the flight deck, roaring. He saw Thor and swung a fist twice the size of Thor’s head. Thor caught it in both hands, straining to hold both the Hulk’s arm and his attention. “We are not your enemies, Banner,” he grunted. “Try to think!”

Now, where have I heard that before...?

In answer, the Hulk punched him through the wall.

Jealous.

Thor got up and watched the Hulk coming after him. Now this was a fight! He held out a hand, waiting for Mjolnir to return to him. Mjolnir smashed through another wall and reached Thor’s hand just as the charging Hulk came within striking distance.

What's a little bloodlust between friends, amirite?

The Hulk caught the hammer, and a fierce grin spread over his face… then he toppled backward and Mjolnir pinned him to the floor of the hangar.

None but I can lift Mjolnir, Thor thought. Not even this giant.

Yes, yes. You're very special, Thor. We're all super impressed, promise.

“You like this?” Coulson asked, meaning the gun. “We started working on the prototype after you sent the Destroyer. Even I don’t know what it does.” He powered it up, and rings along its barrel glowed bright orange. “Want to find out?”

But Loki wasn’t there in front of him. Thor saw it too late to do anything. That Loki was an illusion… and the real Loki was behind Coulson.

Lokiception.

“You lack conviction,” Coulson said. He did not move from where he sat against the wall. Blood trickled at the corner of his mouth, and the enormous gun lay uselessly across his lap.

Of all the things Coulson might have said, this was perhaps the one Loki expected least. I have moved worlds out of conviction, he thought. Made bargains with beings who snuff out planets as an afterthought. “I don’t think I…”

“Tasha,” he said. “How many agents did I—?”

“Don’t,” she said. “Don’t do that to yourself, Clint. This is Loki. This is monsters and magic and nothing we were ever trained for.” Better than maybe anyone on the Helicarrier, Natasha Romanoff knew you couldn’t blame yourself for things you did while you were brainwashed. All you could do was try to heal and get things right the next time.

OH? DO TELL.

“Yeah, takes us a while to get any traction, I’ll give you that one,” Tony said. “But let’s do a head count here. Your brother the demigod, a Super-Soldier, a living legend who kind of lives up to the legend, a man with breathtaking anger-management issues, a couple of master assassins… and you, big fella, you’ve managed to piss off every single one of them.”

“That was the plan,” Loki said with a grin.

“Not a great plan,” Tony said.

YOU'RE RIGHT, TONY. IT'S AN OBJECTIVELY TERRIBLE PLAN. NOW ASK YOURSELF WHY HE WOULD DO THAT ON PURPOSE.

“You’re missing the point!” he said, and his tone got sharper. “There’s no throne, there is no version of this where you come out on top. Maybe your army comes and maybe it’s too much for us… but it’s all on you. Because if we can’t protect the Earth, you can be sure we’ll avenge it.”

Weeeeeell...

With those last words, he tapped Tony on the chest with his scepter, just has he had Hawkeye and Dr. Selvig. Nothing happened. The Arc Reactor in Tony’s chest countered the scepter’s effect.

Loki tried it again. “This usually works.…”

“Well,” Tony said, “best-laid plans. You know the saying.”

Uncomfortable with mild swear words and dick jokes, I see. Lol

Look at this!” Thor shouted, holding Loki and forcing him to gaze out over the destruction in the city. “You think this madness will end with your rule?”

“It’s too late,” Loki said. Thor thought he was beginning to understand what he had done. “It’s too late to stop it.”

“No,” Thor said. “We can. Together.”

Loki looked him in the eye… and then betrayed Thor again, stabbing him in the side with a knife hidden in his sleeve. Thor dropped to the ground, clutching the wound. “Sentiment,” Loki said mockingly.

OH MY GOD. HE'S MOCKING HIMSELF, YOU ABSOLUTE KNUCKLEHEAD. I swear to god, this author sat down and went, "Hmm. How can I systematically erase any and all complexity this character possesses so he's as generic a villain as possible?"

CASE IN POINT:

On a bridge, Cap huddled behind a destroyed car with the Black Widow and Hawkeye. “Lots of civilians trapped up there,” Hawkeye said, indicating the nearby buildings. A flight of Chitauri went over, and Cap noticed something different about one of them.

“Loki,” he said. He was shooting at the civilians fleeing through the streets. “They’re fish in a barrel down there.”

It can be admittedly hard to tell because most shots of the Chitauri vehicles firing on people are from too far away to tell who's piloting... but I checked the clips from the Battle of NY and the only person Loki can definitively be seen firing at is Natasha. On another Chitauri whatever-you-call-them. Not even aiming for the street.

Thor was still watching the Chitauri zipping overhead. “I have unfinished business with Loki.”

“Yeah?” Hawkeye said. “Get in line.”

“Save it,” Steve said. “Loki’s going to keep this fight focused on us, and that’s what we need. Otherwise those things could run wild. We’ve got Stark up on top—”

Almost as if... according to plan...

Look, I have historically not bought into the full "Loki formed the Avengers so he could lose on purpose" theory because I feel that it contradicts the canon explanation that he was being influenced by the sceptre. But... you'd have to be an absolute moron to think he wasn't sabotaging himself, whether accidentally or on purpose. I suppose one could argue that just because it was amplifying his negative emotions, that doesn't necessarily mean it prevented him from working against his "allies". But if it wasn't affecting his actions at all, I don't know why they'd bother to confirm the theory as canon.

Also, like... according to this book, Loki is somehow targeting civilians and not targeting civilians at the same time ?? lmao

“Dr. Banner,” Steve said. “Now might be a really good time for you to get angry.”

Bruce was already walking toward the Leviathan. “That’s my secret, Captain,” he said over his shoulder. “I’m always angry.”

Same, tbh.

Thor reached the top of the Empire State Building and lifted Mjolnir. Storm clouds gathered and lightning struck down, hundreds of bolts reaching for Mjolnir. Thor turned the Empire State Building’s iconic spire into a lightning rod, gathering the force of the elements into it. Then he thrust Mjolnir in the direction of the portal. All the energy he had built up blazed out in a single forking bolt. It struck and destroyed every single Chitauri between the Empire State Building and the portal itself. Hundreds of them exploded and tumbled from the sky at once, including several of the Leviathans that tumbled down to smash into buildings below.

...so why didn't Thor just keep doing this for the rest of the battle? Too draining, or not exciting enough? Lol

Satisfied, Thor nodded and glanced over at the Hulk. Perhaps the scales were evened from their last fight against each other on the Helicarrier—

The Hulk shot out his left fist and smashed Thor all the way across the block-long gallery. Then it was his turn to look satisfied.

Jealous. Again.

Maybe that was just Loki, but Steve was starting to feel like the Chitauri were going to absorb every punch the Avengers could throw. They had to close that portal, or nothing was going to stop the invasion.

Well then. It sure is fortunate that Loki allowed Selvig to install a failsafe, huh?

Fury stood and listened to the World Security Council explain that they had decided to take the operation out of his hands. They were going to use a nuclear missile to destroy the Tesseract and close the portal—but at the cost of untold civilian lives. Fury protested as strongly as he could and one of the councilors cut him off. “Director Fury. The Council has made a decision.”

These crazy motherfuckers would have killed so many more people than Loki it's not even funny.

...and tbh, it probably wouldn't even have destroyed the Tesseract, so they would have killed them for literally no reason too.

The Hulk paused, confused.

“You are, all of you, beneath me!” Loki raged.

Not yet, sir, but I would very much like to be. 😏

She knelt next to him and said, “It’s not your fault. You didn’t know what you were doing.”

Selvig digested this for a moment and then said, “Actually I think I did. I built in a safety to cut the power source.”

Of note and as alluded to previously:

1) The mind control over Barton and Selvig was not absolute either; therefore, if they are not responsible for their actions over the course of this movie, Loki is not responsible for his either.

2) If The Other could hear everything Loki was up to, it's very likely that Loki could hear everything Barton and Selvig were up to as well. Meaning that, at a minimum, he knew about the failsafe and did nothing about it.

The missile had a lot of momentum built up, and Tony’s Mark 7 suit was not operating at full capacity after the amount of energy he’d expended in the battle already. It was no easy task to get the missile angled up sharply enough to clear the tallest buildings in Midtown—especially Stark Tower. That was where the missile seemed to want to go. So, Tony thought, the World Security Council is jealous of me, too.

Look, I get that he's mostly just being witty, but seriously... this dude is out here accusing Loki of being an egomaniac? Lol

He got underneath the missile and angled it upward, straining against its stabilizers, which tried to keep it on course. But slowly he forced it up, and once he got its warhead pointed at an angle, pushing it into a steeper climb got easier. A little.

Steve Rogers’s voice broke his concentration. “Stark, you know that’s a one-way trip?”

So... you're admitting you were wrong, then? 🙃

The Avengers looked up. On the roof of Stark Tower, Natasha said, “Come on, Stark.”

They saw the explosion through the portal, brilliant as a new sun. There was no way Tony could have survived that.

I was wrong about him, Steve thought. When the time came, he did make the sacrificial play.

Thanks, Steve. That's really all I wanted.

Loki had just gotten himself put back together enough to get out of the hole in the floor. Painfully he dragged himself toward the door. Never had a mortal damaged him as much as that green monster. He would be healing for a long time.

He's literally in better shape now than when he came through the portal. And the author made zero mention of his health there.

But heal he would, and then he would have his revenge. Even though the portal had collapsed and he had lost the Tesseract. Even though his Chitauri army was destroyed. Loki would show the so-called Avengers they never should have opposed him.

Raise your hand if you watched Avengers and thought Loki was thinking about revenge right after getting Hulk-smashed. Why aren't any of you raising your hands??

Seriously, there are two emotions I felt from Loki at the end of Avengers Assemble: relief and anxiety. I have no idea why Alex Irvine is so intent on turning him into a boring, one-dimensional villain, but it made this book absolutely insufferable to read.

Anyway, that's it! I hope you all found this as entertaining and cathartic as I did. Lol

Tobirama with a trophy wife 😳🤣

When I saw this request I didn’t know what to feel or think at first, but the idea turned out to be so funny to me that I had to give it a try lmao

Anon I hope you don’t mind if it doesn’t come out exactly the way you imagined bc this is my first time writing this sort of thing and I really don’t know what I’m doing but anyways, here we have Tobi with a 🏆 wife

Things were never that easy for you and your family: war, poverty and other unpleasing circumstances molded your ways in life

You were never given the chance to be romantic. For a poor girl who wasn’t a ninja, the safest way to achieve something in life was through marriage. And a man from an important clan was your goal

There were a good amount of single guys who fit these requirements around

It didn’t make your work easy, though: ninjas don’t have much time to think of building a family if they’re not the head of their clan, and if they are they would only choose someone on their level

Besides, there were those clans whose members were not allowed to marry outsiders like the Uchiha and the Hyugga

But, well, the Senju were around and were more “progressive” than their allies towards these matters

You didn’t even take a look at their head, Hashirama: man was clearly reserved to some princess from a good family

And tbh you wouldn’t spend an entire day by his side without being annoyed by his dramatic manners

However, he had a younger brother who seemed to have all the intelligence and seriousness that lacked in him and looked like a prince just like him

Tobirama was his name, and unlike the other Senju he was a real challenge

He was clever enough to see through people's intentions, focused enough on his work to ignore you as if you were part of the furniture and too grumpy to let himself being led by a girl as a simple minded man would do

All of this just made things more interesting for you

By that time, the clans’ compounds were always in need of people to work on them, performing tasks that were impossible (or unworthy) to be performed by shinobi

This meant endless space for female workers

You took your chance and applied to work on the head’s house

Unfortunately for you, there were other girls with the same mindset as you working there

The environment was always tense with silent competition: they came first and wouldn’t give up their place for nothing

You knew that the solution was to find a way to surpass them without using the same tactics as them, since they clearly didn’t work: the Senjus were still single and those girls were still servants

Observing them, you noticed they all acted the same way: they would fight for attention, but once they got it, they didn’t know what to do, an the men’s interest quickly disappeared

You would have to do the opposite

You were always gentle, showed good manners and kept your mouth shut for most of the time, just like expected from a servant

You were dedicated to your job as if you were there just for it

But during your free times you took some minutes to educate yourself sneaking through the library and reading the scrolls, most of them filled with poetry or historical content

However, you were careful not to keep yourself apart from the other girls, otherwise they would find out what you were doing. You made one or two friends just to keep up with everything

This plan of yours worked right at the first month… But with Hashirama

He somehow started to talk to you, pointing out how silent and “different” you were

You just smiled and pretended you knew nothing about being different

As the days passed, however, some sort of friendship grew between you two, and you were now assigned to work closer to him, who were always with his brother

Hashirama often talked to you as a good friend, even in Tobirama’s presence

You soon saw your chance there and watched your steps when Tobirama was around

Because of Hashirama’s influence, he started to talk directly to you as well. Most of the times he just asked you favors or gave you orders, but every interaction counted

One day, you thought the Senjus were not at home and went to the library to finish a reading you’ve started the past week

You were there for some minutes when the doors were suddenly opened and Tobirama came in

“What are you doing here?” was his natural first question

Well, Tobirama was not like his brother, so an excuse weren’t going to work on him. You told him the truth: you’ve been visiting the library to read during your free time, but you didn’t want anyone to know because you were afraid of being scolded

Tobirama said he was not going to scold you for wanting to read some scrolls and even gave you permission to keep visiting the library after work

Then you started to talk about the scroll’s content. It was your first informal conversation

You were not blind to his qualities: he was smart, observant, articulated... You were more and more convinced that having a man like that as your husband was an achievement like no other

Hashirama was the first to notice the change in your interactions and started talking in your favor to his brother

You were more than happy with this

One day, you were talking to Hashirama and managed to discreetly compliment his brother

Tobirama came at that right time and overheard the conversation

You quickly excused yourself and ran out from the place

From that moment, Hashirama gave you the support you didn’t request but welcomed anyway

One day, your hard work finally seemed to pay off: Tobirama came to you during your free time claiming that he wanted to discuss something important with you

You went to a private place that reminded you of a garden. Was that a good sign?

You were nervous but managed to discreetly ask him why you were there

The way he looked at you before answering sent chills down your spine

But then came his words

“You do not need to keep pretending, y/n. I know everything”

Oh. God. What were going to happen to you now? Were you going to be fired? Exposed? Killed?

Tobirama never seemed so scary to you before. But he must have noticed the fear in your face, because his next words were sort of assuring

“Do not be afraid. I did not bring you here to scold you. I brought you here to say that I admire your cleverness and courage to try such thing with one of us. Let me say that your plan would work with a man like my brother. But unfortunately for you, I am from a different kind”

Despite your goals and methods, you still saw yourself as an honest girl, so you just told him your whole story and the things that led you to such ways

You also confessed that as time passed and you observed him and his brother working together as a team and a family, some changes occurred in your vision of them

You were impressed with something you’ve never dreamed of experiencing yourself

Your heart was divided: you had to assure your own comfort in life, but at the same time you no longer wanted to act that way towards him and Hashirama

He didn’t make it clear if he believed you or not, but it didn’t matter, for his next measure was even more shocking

“Y/n, I will be honest with you. In a strange way, I like you. And I sense that this feeling can grow into attachment if I give room to it”

“What do you mean with give room to it, Tobirama-sama?”

“I want to say that this is exactly my intention. I brought you here to inform you that I am going to talk to my brother about our marriage”

You had to do your best to not pass out after hearing that

Despite knowing you didn’t love him and hearing your true intentions from your mouth, he was willing to make you his wife. Why?!

“But, Tobirama-sama… why? Why would you marry someone after all you just heard? Besides, you don’t even love me. I don’t understand… Nothing justifies such decision!”

His response was to approach you and whisper in your ear

“Consider this as part of your punishment”

The other day, you were sent to Hashirama’s presence (Tobirama was not there)

He congratulated you for your engagement and explained that from now on you will have to call him your brother, for you no longer were a servant, but his brother’s future wife

He then came to hug you with all his strength, leaving all his composure aside

Everything happened so fast that day that you felt like you were inside a dream: you were sent to a new room, with new clothes and everything you needed

One of your old colleagues were sent to take care of you, and the surprise (and envy) on her face was impossible to disguise

However, you couldn’t say that it was a perfect dream: you finally got what you wanted, yes, but this didn’t bring you the satisfaction it was supposed to bring

The next days, you felt strange in Tobirama’s presence, and you sensed that the more you felt like that, longer was the time he spent with you, acting as if everything was okay

You can say that after your marriage, your life in fact changed, but not exactly for the better

Unlike the period you worked as a servant, you had some comfort and a good amount of free time now, but you soon found out that it didn’t mean true happiness

Time for Luffy's fashion exam! Now, I'll be honest, I did skip an outfit because I decided I will be ending this whole thing with the Strawhat fashion show in Episode of Luffy. Also, sorry for the posting gap, I remembered I have other unfinished post sets. That being said, this is a very long one so let's do this!

Kid Luffy, Post-Enies Lobby & Fish-Man Island: I think it's super cute when Luffy has white t shirts with red based logos because it reminds me of the first picture. Makes him look baby plus, they can always be found in cute domestic EPs or fun, cute flashbacks. The shorts change over time and that's also kinda cute, a range of cuffs is a nice change up. It's nice to see the red contrast the blue shorts and the white is a nice color on him cos it contrast his hair!

Romance Dawn, Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark, Sabaody Archipelago, Amazon Lily, Marineford & last Dressrosa outfit: This look is the pre Luffy look. It's the pre Timeskip look everyone thinks of is cuffed shorts, Kimono sandels and sleeveless vest (and Strawhat, obviously) but have you ever seen them all in a line? It's mad. Each outfit is the same basic look bit more are more spicy each time! I like the Thriller Bark and Sabaody Archipelago looks a little bit more cos it's nice to see that jacket open and it feels like he was trying something new. I also feel that the buttons on the jacket look like the ones on Shanks' pegged ankle sailor pants when we first see him so that's cool. (it took me hours to find the name for his trousers, oh my fucking god) The last Dressrosa outfit feels like a nice callback to the rest of the line up here without being too much cos it's just a red vest top instead and I do find it funny it's like the Enies Lobby and it's used in Dressrosa because of the jokes people make about Robin and Law being so similar.

Timeskip: This is it lads, it's the one true icon itself, the post look! ☺️ When I sit back and look at it I see all the people this look is influenced by and want to cry at how masterful it really is. (Now, I do wanna say that I didn't come up with this nor am I the first to say it and I am definitely probably looking too much into this but) The yellow belt is taken from Shanks' red belt the first time we see him and the Shanks look Luffy is more familiar with. Now onto the jacket. I know it won't stand out as to why for most but it's Ace inspired! When Ace leave to become a pirate, the start of his adventure, he has his jacket open and Luffy having his jacket open also shows his scar from the ending of Ace's adventure. I also really appreciate how no one hides scars in this anime. Also, someone said that the style of the jacket and it's fancy frills could be in reference to Sabo's little jabot collar and honestly I do see it. it's quite subtle unlike Shanks' but not as hard to catch as Ace's so I enjoy thinking that it's there too. Lastly, he still has his cuffed shorts and kimono sandels because it's still Luffy's outfit at the end of the day and he is still who is is, just with a stronger appreciation of what people have done for him now. It's also his colour pallette for the pure fact he is the main character n needs his pallet. also sometimes he just has normal wooden sandels but the same outfit sometimes, it's a small detil a lot of people overlook but I prefer the sound of his Kimono sandels 😊

Dressrosa: I love this outfit cos it's stilly but also has very nice vibes. Looks ready for the beach but is really throwing hands and that's the best kind of outfit, it's a nice expectation subversion tbh. I also like how he tried to hide the Straw hat but not... All of it? And I love how the crew didn't actually question it either. It would have been super easy for one of them to just tell him to leave it behind or something but I do really love how respectful they always are of the hat. I myself have a hat that's super important to me and when I loose it I go mad.

Whole Cake Island: I love this arc for outfits! I swear if the actual content of it doesn't kill me, the act looks will 😭 it's all so magical and it knows it is! Like I said before, white is a good color on him as he has black hair but for the same reason, so is black! In this arcs outfit range, the Staw hat seems almost invisible and his outfit gets less and less 'Luffy' as the arc gose on showing this is not about him. He's not the focus of this arc and you can see that in a lot of the outfits thb. I also like the lack of blue and yellow, 2/3 of his colors as Sanji is often associated with those too as we've talked about before. Also, I like the little red strips on the white jacket with the gold buttons, idk why and I think it's nice that the last 2 outfits are so simple in general, it's a nice look for him. oh, what's that? A Pink jabot? Your killing me Lu, straight up killing me here lil' bro! Side note, is this the first time in canon Luffy has worn a suit jacket or is it the only time I've noticed? Cos DAMM!! Shits sick as fuck and I actually love that when wearing a suit jacket as such he always keep short on 😆

Spa Island, Z's Ambition & Strong World: WHOS READY FOR A RELAXING SUNNY DAAAYY!? (pun not intended but very much enjoyed) I actually adore the fact Luffy still tries to go swimming cos it was his favourite thing to do as a kid so like fuck Luffy is gonna give up on that. He's got his safety measures ready, what more do you want from him? I mean I personally want him not to swim with his hat on cos it's litrally Staw and that's not good for water but anyway Z's Ambition, am I right!? The top is so fucking cute and I just noticed those shorts are also ✨designer✨ fancy man!! Now, the pic of Zoro is the one I missed out before and it's also from Z's Ambition. I love that Luffy has the shark top but Zoro has the ocean shorts. I really love Zoro in this purple cos and thick white stripes really work with the ocean waves. It's really well put together and hes got dark brown sandels on to off set all the white but keep the purple from being a stand out color, it's cool! Than the last Luffy looks like he's at a fashion show. It looks like the shorts come from a kids set the shark top belongs to. Imagine those together, it'd be so cute. However, it isn't an ocean patten, those are clouds cos Nami has a bikini top with the same pattern in Skypiea and it's actually one of my favourites for her.

Boss Luffy Historical Special! This filler AU is so much fun, I think any it a lot. He has his hair up in that super cute and useless way that doesn't actually do much but I do have my hair like that a lot n it's just... nice? Idk, it's strange buy I like he did that. I really enjoy his Kimono more that the actual Wano one cos it's a lot more simple look. The Sai being tucked in in that way is also cool but kinda makes it look like it's stabbing him a bit 👁️👄👁️. I like the pin strips being like a faded purpleish cos if you just glance at it, it makes it look it fuzzy. The belt also looks very nice with the middle ligter bit. It really feels like the Wano one was inspired by this is a way cos of the color matches. Like, it's probably not but still.

3D2Y, Adventure of Nebulandia 😍 & Heart of Gold: Hat-less Luffy is both a sin and a blessing. Regardless, I LOVE OP BOYS IN HOODIES!! I had to show you this specific the 3D2Y because we don't see the hood and it's soooo cute cos it a paw 😍 but also 😬 cos it's like... Kuma's paw the thing that cause 3D2Y in the first place. But that's also why it's so cool at the same time and AHHHHHH 😄 Now! On to Nebulandia! I really like this movie but also in canon, how does he have that jumper? Who made it for him and can I have one? It's Usopp flag design so I guess it could be him but he doesn't seem the type. Point is I want one. Last of this set is some really cosy outfits!! "How much fur?" "Yes" am I right? Like the first one is sooooo cosy with all the fur! Plus, a funky new bamboo hat, always a good thing to have a new hat. I appreciate that you can see the zips on these too. Then the orange turtle neck one with little fluffy bits is just here cos it's so out of his usual looks, I had to at least mention it.

Strong world & Film Z: The shorts on the first one are really cute cos it's a light rosey pink with red fur and just a plain solid dark blue colour jacket works really well. Not to mention the fact he has a super cute orange and yellow flight helmet hat with goggles on under the Staw hat. The 2 bag straps also make an X which is a nice detail. The 2nd outfits in this movie are super fuckin cool ngl. It's so strange to see them all dress in black and have guns but I like the red shirt for him with the yellow highlighted parts. Makes the Straw hat actually work with the outfit instead of ignoring it. Film Z brings us the same flight helmet hat just brighter and without the goggles but also opens with this T-Shirt and Luffy being silly with it. I think that's the only reason to mention it, it's funny. Then the obligation pirate outfit, always stunning plus the meat belt.

Film: Gold & Stampede (also used in Cidre Guild): these are my top 3 Luffy outfits no matter what else I see. I love the straw cowboy hat sooooo much cos it's very Luffy. I like the balls they has as a team to choose white for all of them, considering they are all quite messy people, living for that dad shirt and I like the Golden chain around his neck but am always confused as to why it was never used against him. Like dude could and should have tried to choke him at least once, right? Anyway, the dress! Now, the dress isn't actually that good but it's my favourite because it shows how Luffy has no fucks about gendered things. On to of that, a big pink flower is wonderful and look at his confidences in it, he's so proud of it the boom, Nami told him he can't wear it! Lastly, the Stampede outfit!!! Just like the Nebulandia jumper, I have no idea who made it but it's irrelevant cos it's beautiful and I want it so badly. I like that it's white and red stripes, gives thenprefect vibes for Stampedes opening. The shirt is actually too big for him, you can see on his arms but it's actually super cute. I love the simple look of these shorts then the fact his yellow belt is replaced with white bandages and the black on the kimono sandels are now red? It's such a simple pallet and it's truly the best!

I also just wanna add, I think it's really cute when Luffy has the Straw hat on his back just cos his hair is really cute. Idk why, it's looks kinda cursed but cute at the same time

oh, it's actually hard to answer bc pretty often my otps can work as brotps for me as well. it also means that when i can't ship some characters they don't work for me as friends either. not to mention that in asoiaf i'm open to many ships, and if i'm not very passionate about some it's not a sign i can't see them in romantic light.

5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?

may i say any sansa ship? 😭 as well as sansa herself lmao. idk generally i can't ship characters i don't like because i'm just not interested. and it's not to say i don't like book!sansa (show!sansa is another case 💀), i just don't find her arc as intriguing and epic as arcs of some other characters. however, it's absolutely her obnoxious fandom's fault that i don't want to touch anything about her now, pairings including. sansaery? pass. sansan? i used to have a soft spot for them in my heart but now? nah. sansa x anyone? pls have mercy, she's already a fandom bicycle.

and jonsa ofc. i would never mind some crack ship as i do this one if not for their obnoxious stans that did way too much to list there right now. but this burning desire to persuade every rock on the street that your crack ship is canon will never stop being ridiculous lmao

also braime. tbh i used to low-key like them but some of their stans weirded my away lol. i get that not all of them are like that but still. it's generally my great pain when i see braime/brienne/jaime stans who are also dany/targ antis. every time i see them i cackle and run away as fast as i can crying from disappointment lmao. it's really a pity because i'm either very neutral or like in my own way all three of them.

6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?

jonrya it is! i never hated them, you know, but they never were more than siblings and brotp to me. however, later i encountered the deluded crack ship fandom that shall not be named and understood that if there is any possible romance for jon with any of his sisters-cousins we all know which one it will be lmao. also their stans are very sweet and i really like many of their takes on arya and jon! i generally love relationships of jon and arya very much so it wasn't that difficult in practice to see them in a quite different light.

7. Is there anything you used to like but can't stand now?

meta culture lmao. reading different analysis and interpretations of the text used to be very interesting to me (and still is tbh but in other fandoms) though asoiaf is a different case. imo many people aren't honest in their so called theories and analyses. i get that all of us are biased but some "meta writers'" denial of their own biases influence fandom in a bad way. it looks like too many people run to them to get answers to their questions about any minor detail as if they were grrm himself. yk instead of using their own reading comprehension lmao. you see how this meta culture ruined fandom just looking at the most delusional stans and shippers who spread their agenda by writing endless text posts full of nonsense and bullshit but styled as oh so intellectual and thoughtful analysis. it's insane how many people actually buy it and don't check canon accuracy of such claims themselves. it got to the ridiculous point when random people try to argue with you with some far-fetched embarrassing "theories" as if they were canon facts or quotes straight up from a fanfic because they read somewhere some other confused soul's post and got from a context that this quote is canon (despite the fact that it wasn't written in grrm's style at all but some people can't use their brains even if their lives depended on it it seems).

anyway it's become too long and rambly already so tldr. because of such "neutral unbiased" analyses i got the habit of fact checking almost everything i see in such posts. there's only a small amount of meta writers from targ/dany/jon/arya stans that i trust because i know by practice and following them for some time that they don't pull anything out of nowhere, back up everything they say with canon quotes, don't decontextualize anything and (that is the most important thing to me) are reasonable and open to discussion unlike so many bnfs nowadays.

ah, not in this fandom yet, god bless! i think i'm not loud enough for the needed amount of time to deserve it lol. but since i'm not going anywhere soon maybe one day i will 😂

robert baratheon and tywin lannister, obviously. tbh it's pretty hard for me to hate any characters because you know. they're fictional lmao. just lines on paper, they can't hurt you. and even such dudes as tywin or robert don't get real distaste from me if they're written well enough. my problem with them lies not only in their canon crimes and shitty consequences of those but in fandom's (or at least some parts of it) unwillingness to acknowledge that they're canonically written as shitty, not as stan/pity/worship material. tywin isn't as clever as some think and robert is a coward outside of battlefield, not to mention some absolutely disgusting denial of his nature from targ antis only because the man happened to be the most vocal targ hater in-universe so these folks feel like he is their main book representative and whitewash him completely lmao

uugh idk even. i'm either low-key interested (or used to be at least so i can stay pretty neutral for the sake of nostalgia lol) or too indifferent to really care.

all my faves have their own crowd of haters i'm afraid 😭 but let me say rhaegar. even among some dany/targ stans my man is so misunderstood lmao. it's not even his fault i dare say it's fanon about his half-imagined crimes that somehow got widespread to the unbelievable degree. and when i say they're half-imagined i'm being very generous actually. ofc he isn't perfect, no one in asoiaf is. and yes, he's a pre-series dead minor character but almost all little information about him is actually positive, not to mention the narrative itself that doesn't paint him as a villain or just a shitty dude. on the contrary, he's an idealized to some degree dead prince who could've been a good king (like some other historical targaryens, jacaerys, baelor breakspear, aemon son of jaehaerys, etc.), a mysterious yet tragic figure. i have much to say about why it's so popular to shit on him in fandom but yeah. his haters should send their complaints to grrm instead, no one forced the man to write him like that lol. and i mean that no one has to like him ofc. but it's misinterpretation of the text to claim he was intentionally written as a villain or smth by grrm.

i don't know if it counts as unpopular but i would say tyrion's arc as a whole because i enjoy his character and like in my own way. i can get why some people don't like him but this man will always have his own place in my heart i must admit.

is this unpopular tho?.. ok but renly wouldn't make a terrible king. i dare say he would be better than both robert and stannis. yes, he wasn't shown as perfect and i don't claim this. he wouldn't be the best or the most brilliant or the most just or noble. yet still better than his brothers. his flaws weren't anything other high lords didn't have, his mistakes weren't anything other lords and kings didn't do. in many ways he would make a better job than robert or stannis, too bad he died so early, even though i get why it was important for the narrative.

26. Most shippable character?

well generally for me it's the ones i love the most lol. jonerys/snowstorm is my never dying otp but i admit my sins, sometimes i just see dany with other characters (often from other fandoms pls don't @ me). however, since dany is THE fave of mine it means i would rather twist the other guy or girl to fit into the good match for her than twist her for another character in my new born crack ship lol. and i never stay for too long with the ships with which i feel they don't really fit and don't do justice for each other lol. maybe that's the reason i'm not much of a rare shipper / crack shipper afshdjdb

Historical Fic + Marriage of Convenience

it would absolutely have to be the classic ~oh we’re on more or less the same job we might as well work together it’s the Arrangement after all~ i’m thinking regency and they’re meant to be tempting/preserving the virtue of someone in the village who’s supposed to become a saint but tbh that doesn’t matter what matters is that aziraphale’s assignment is to take up a living as the parish priest. and an unmarried gentleman at his age would be very unusual,,,,and since crowley is meant to be on the same job, why not team up? no greater motives at all. so aziraphale poses as a priest and crowley poses as his wife, and the parsonage is small and old and could do with more land for grazing and growing, but it’ll do just fine for a few years, and crowley enjoys putting the house together and planning and tending the garden aziraphale enjoys expanding the library. and every night, even though neither of them have to sleep, and they have two spare rooms, they sleep together, without fail. it wouldn’t do for people in the village to notice that the candles are always lit in the priest’s house, after all; and they have servants, as befits their income, and what if they notice that the priest and his wife never sleep together, and talk? it’s purely utilitarian, of course, of course. except obviously they end up cuddling every single night.

they spend years on the assignment; except, well, they have to keep up the appearances of humans near-constantly, given that they have human servants around, and visitors, and in some ways they just–fall into it. the girl they’re meant to be influencing visits often, but frankly aziraphale hates ‘sermons for young women’ and really, he finds constant religious advice and guidance very boring and ineffective, so more often than not he’s just letting her read in his library and chatting about books and history with her; and crowley is really just trying to persuade her to run off to paris and become a scandalously single philosopher, so they just hang out and garden together and get on famously.

and one night, at a ball, they drink a bit more than they mean to, and crowley persuades him to dance (i firmly hold that crowley knows the fashionable dances of yesteryear very well, he couldn’t very well be a fashionable young man in the 18th century and never dance) and it’s absolutely horrible and they leave the floor early, laughing like idiots, and aziraphale says they ought to return home, it wouldn’t do for the whole village to see their priest and his wife completely drunk, and they stumble home together, and somewhere between their gate and the house, they’re kissing, crowley pressed against the door and his expensive shawl discarded onto the porch, and they’re interrupted by their housemaid opening the door in confusion at what all the noise is about. and they hurry up to their room and look at each other for one terrified moment that says we have to talk about this, don’t we, and crowley is preparing his excuses, but aziraphale just. undresses and gets in bed, and when crowley hesitantly follows him, he kisses his cheek, and pulls him in to rest on his chest, and they don’t talk about it. for the next several years, they are every bit the married couple they’ve been for a thousand years, and they don’t talk about it, about the fact that this can’t go on forever, they’re pushing it, they’re really pushing it, the arrangement was bad enough, this multi-year charade was bad enough, actually being married in every sense besides an outright wedding, might be too much. but yknow theyve always taken risks to be together however they can, and if this is their one chance to act like real people living a good and simple life, they’ll take it, and they won’t spoil it by actually talking about it.

and eventually, the young girl moves to london, and writes pamphlets on women’s suffrage, and marries a whig politician who would one day be instrumental in the 1832 reform act; ultimately, she lives a good life that is not satisfactory to either heaven or hell. crowley and aziraphale have known since she came to tell them she’d be leaving for london that they are on borrowed time, but eventually the reprimands for their failure come, as do the new assignments, and they have to leave their little parsonage and go their separate ways, though both their hearts break for it, and they don’t talk about the fact that they were married for like a decade until after the apocalypse, because they are stupid. but also because they know that if they acknowledge it, they’ll have to admit to themselves and out loud how they feel; they’ll either have to defy heaven and hell aloud, or deny it, lie and say it didn’t mean anything, it was just an assignment, and they’re not ready for the former, or willing to do the latter. so crowley sleeps for a century, and aziraphale rebounds with oscar wilde, you know how it is.

Fair warning - lots of text below. Like. Lots.

... But first, just before he came to meet with us again -

So all of his classmates in turn talk about how relieve they are that they can work together without suspecting each other, but something about the way she says it rings............ false. But then again, that might be my own bias colouring things. She outright states it in a way that the others don’t, idk. 8′D

Shuichi, though... he’s realized. Maybe not with an exact name, but he knows that isn’t true. He literally can’t bring himself to pretend that it’s true at all.

Oh Himiko...

5 survivors.... or maybe 4, depending on how the mastermind goes out. That’s definitely a new, sad record. :(

I CAN NAME A REASON -

Look who’s back with a brand new ahoge! It’s got that new-hair smell and everything -

H-He was never going to outright attack any of us though, right??? Even if he was willing to let us become collateral damage (which admittedly is super Not Great either, but -). That’s a really morbid thought Shuichi - where did it come from?

And of course, now that his hairpiece is back, he’s gone back to his more deferential, timid self.

“I’m telling you, that ahoge was 95% of my impulse control! Literally!”

But the fact that he’s apologizing now, when he was completely unapologetic before... that has to be that inner voice directing him now, right? But I wonder if it influences his ‘emotions’ (or whatever the equivalent would be for him) as well. Is the voice literally telling him to apologize or does he just ‘feel the urge’ to apologize?

So it is back.

Has it always been that tall???

Maybe if Miu and Kokichi had let him talk before Korekiyo’s trial, we could have followed up on this!!

Honestly though, I’m curious about this too. Is it a literal voice that tells him what to do? Does it appear as a suggestion to him? It sounds like it isn’t ordering him around but more ‘offering suggestions’... something that wouldn’t come across as obtrusive, but welcoming. Something that wouldn’t raise any alarm bells in him. Or maybe he was programmed to accept that just the way things were supposed to be.

.......... Actually the fact that it came up around Korekiyo’s trial, someone else who was revealed to be doing things based on a voice of sorts in his head, is a very strange coincidence? That... may or may not bode well for K1-b0. Is he going to be a foil to Korekiyo, or a parallel?

The inner voice may be good after all if it helped him realize this. 8′D

Wait, they said there was an accident when he was first created, right? And he reset? This had to have been a fail-safe because something similar to this happened...

As much as I want to comment on the fact that he’s said he can’t cry and he literally is sweating and his ‘eyes’ are ready to overflow, but fffff every single time I see this sprite my heart clenches and I kind of want to hug him. >3>

We’ve officially got everyone on the same side now! ......... well okay there’s technically one specific exception but on the surface we’re all good!

Look at Maki getting better at shedding her tsundere side! She’s getting better at being outright kind and welcoming to people, yay ~

Oh man anyone who doesn’t realize at this point probably thinks it’s one of her anime-reference non-sequiters! But it’s not! It’s definitely a distraction! And she’s totally established herself as someone whose head is in the clouds so she she says random things like this, no one blinks an eye! What other comments has she covered like this?

Okay before plot progression though, fluff text time -

WHELP THIS IS A HELL OF A FLUFF TEXT

I have so many things to say about this despite the fact that I’ve definitely talked about it before, because I actually relate to the idea of feeling like a different person in cosplay - of, well, letting yourself become the role. And I’ve definitely said that the theme of ‘becoming the role’ is a huge secondary theme of the game, just under ‘truth vs lies’, which is actually why I originally had Tsumugi as my potential mastermind back in Chapter 3. It’s telling that she’s comparing K1-b0 and his ‘personality enhancement’ with her own cosplay though - she’s often said that she only finds herself interesting when she isn’t being herself, so maybe it applies here too. Is this her way of enhancing her own self? Of becoming what she thinks is a ‘better’ self, a more interesting and charismatic person?

With that reveal of ‘Junko’ at the end of the last trial and Tsumugi often comparing cosplay to ‘bringing someone to life’, ‘channeling’ and ‘and being a vessel for the gods’, that means she’s basically resurrecting Junko in a sense... or acting as her vessel? Is that what will happen here? I think it’s possible for her to bring the ‘larger than life’ Junko from history (like the way long-dead historical figures can often become their own entities that walk the line between fiction and reality) as a way to get around the cospox issue unless I’ve really been accusing the wrong person this whole time lmao. It also lines up with all the times resurrection has been brought up in the game which is A LOT - the funeral scene/reviving the Ultimates, Ryoma describing himself as an empty shell walking around (and trying to ‘revive’ himself via a reason to live, killing off the initial protagonist then reviving the role for Shuichi, the Necronomicon, the seance, Korekiyo and his sister, and lastly, Kokichi via Kaito in the exisal. Combine that with my theory of the students just being normal kids who were reborn with the memories of actual Ultimate students who already died... and them even being forced to dress for those roles... this line of hers becomes really important!

Is this going to become a showdown between personalities who died ages ago? But for what purpose? Even though it looks like there’s a decent amount of things that were made up/embellished in those lights, the clip of the funeral, Kaede wearing the helmet and the meteors were shown outside of the flashback light scene - so are we still facing a doomsday scenario?

And back to Tsumugi herself - does she not have enough conviction to follow through with these plans and Monokuma unless she’s in Junko-wear? That would explain why she and Monokuma don’t seem to be on the same page... So which one of them is pulling the strings, exactly?? They’re definitely independent entities!

Meanwhile Himiko is having a grand old time because she’s finally got a friend in Maki. Aaaaaaw ~

We’re, uh, going to have problems if that’s true.

SHUICHI REMEMBERS TOO LMAO

Strength of an old man, average or below-average agility, eyesight and intelligence... what else was there?

And it wasn’t stripped from you???

But... maybe they didn’t realize you had it. Or don’t care? It’s not a dangerous upgrade, so maybe they didn’t realize it could be used in a way that could possibly hinder them...

He says he’s accepted it, but I think it was more out of necessity. It’ll take him some time to adjust to this new state of mind... but I’m happy to hear it, tbh. Just like Shuichi, he’s really struggled with his Ultimate identity up until now, you know? And even though it’s on more of an extreme level, these talents created differences in everyone and how they related to the world, not just him. It’s just a bit more... well, obvious in his case.

It’s all about accepting the good with the bad, K1-b0! And despite some, uh, questionable actions on your part, you really did do so much for us - we never would have gotten to Kokichi’s and Rantaro’s lab, the mastermind’s room, or discovered the flashback light machine without you!

Can we note that once again it is Maki declaring that Kokichi was correct? She is doing her damnedest to check her own prejudices against him this chapter as penance and it’s great.

It’s not ideal, but I also wonder if some of the things he uncovered were only possible using his methods. not that you probably actually are happy about that

Why.... why is it back again. Why is Monokuma back again. Why did the killing game come back at all - what is the point of trying to be Junko? What’s to gain from all of this?

I remember thinking and really liking the idea that this game was completely separate from the last two, so it’s strange to have arrived at this point at the very end, but.... well. Here we go, I suppose.

So.... normally I’d have a drawn out map of the crime scene, but this is a pretty different situation so I made this at the trial save point:

It’s a bit small, so I’ll recap and expand on that and a few other things:

“TSUMUGI IS THE FUCKING MASTERMIND AND SHE IS TOTALLY TRYING TO SET KAEDE UP AS THE ‘FAKE’ MASTERMIND TO SCREW WITH SHUICHI’S (ET AL)’S HEADS

She set up the document saying Kaede has a twin and is trying to draw parallels to Junko (to trick Shuichi)

She planted the shot-put ball in the mastermind’s lair

She didn’t talk about ‘birthing a Monokuma’ (when everyone else did)

SHE IS THE ‘MOTHER’ THAT WAS REFERRED TO BY MONOTARO IN TRIAL 4, NOT MOTHERKUMA

So I went into some detail earlier about Tsumugi herself, and over the last few investigation posts I ended up decided on what I outlined above. On top of everything else, I think we’re going to nail her on the idea that while Kaede’s murder occurred, she went to the library via the mastermind’s lab and stole Rantaro’s Survivor’s Perk. The problem is... then what? What exactly will we do after that? Also I swear Kaede thought of the same thing, with no idea what to do once we confronted the mastermind -

As for the general situation, I’m sticking to my guns about the class not actually being the Ultimates they think they are - I saw the ‘talents’ part of the flashback light setup menu. Actually, the flashback lights themselves.... jeez. Okay. Ironically enough, my thoughts on them are that their execution in the game is similar to Kokichi’s lying style.

First the game has a cutscene that’s completely truthful. Kaede and Shuichi remember being kidnapped at the beginning of the game. The entire prologue scene. The funeral at the beginning of chapter 2. The meteors in chapter 3. Hell, the kid at the beginning of this chapter, who seems to be watching them and getting inspired by them...??? Then... that’s when the flashback light comes in and embellishes that truth with fantasy. That funeral? It was for the entire class, and they all see themselves as being part of it (picturing ‘themselves’ in those photos rather than the students whose memories they all have). The meteors? It gave rise to an entire death cult - the Ultimate Despair, in fact - and they, themselves, were hunted (which plays off of the players’ knowledge of knowing they remember being kidnapped off the streets). Or something like that....

I’m just trying to place a few things, like that picture of Kaito with his grandparents in the motive video and the flashbacks of Shuichi and Kaede in the helmets. Where do they get placed in all of this? Was Shuichi able to project the image of ‘Kaito’ he knew when watching the video, or is that part of the technomagic of the video itself? We did have a whole segment of the VR chapter talking about the mind being able to be fooled into overcoming the reality of the situation (dying via simulation murder) so is it safe to extrapolate from there? And did Shuichi and Kaede remember themselves with those helmets separately from those flashback lights, as a delayed reaction (which as of this chapter is proven to be possible) or is that real?

As for whether this is a simulation, there’s evidence for and against that. The flashbacks with the helmets - pro. The physical presence of cameras - false. Though with that said, I’ve done a bit of work in computer programs where you actually have to set up cameras in-program and when testing the animation, it’ll only capture what’s set up in the frame - so then again, maybe not??? Those computerized cameras can be programmed to move along a certain path and the lens/frame/etc itself can also be altered.... and they did counteract having blind spots by swarming the campus with them so. Hm. Honestly, it could go both ways. I don’t want to dwell too much on this only because I don’t think that’s going to be the ‘big’ reveal anyhow tbh...

Still though; roles, escapism, resurrection. That’s what I picked up on the most through this entire thing. So how does that work together...? The students were told they were replaceable, and the game will never end. Rantaro lived through one but died in the next. Did he live through a game with this same group of classmates or other people? Or, hell, were they ‘other people’ but with the same names/personalities/memories, but different physical people? And if he was willing to repeat the game again, then why? Was it for a chance to break the loop? Or is there a goal to be accomplished if he wins it properly?

Okay, I think I’m starting to go in circles here. What I know: Tsumugi is the mastermind, and she’s not in complete sync with Monokuma. She’s trying to get Kaede(’s twin) framed; Monokuma is perfectly fine with Tsumugi being identified. Tsumugi falls back on the Junko persona when she’s in mastermind mode - when she was alone, she couldn’t help but be that way with Motherkuma. It’s a role she’s able to take - maybe passed down. Anyway, the point is, she uses it to ‘enhance herself’ or maybe to ‘escape her plain self’. Almost like an emotional support thing....? I wonder...

A lot of the truth as we know it is embellished. Only things we can trust from the flashback lights are things we saw independently of them as well, I think? At the bare minimum, pre-Chapter 4. After that point we didn’t have any corresponding prologue clips to match with the lights. With that said, the students were given talents and memories to match them - I think the Ultimate students they belonged to were actually killed... by the Ultimate Hunt, perhaps. Either way, these kids were brought in as ‘replacements’, the same way the Monokids were replaced. Rantaro, at the very least, was not a replacement though - he had a chance to do this again and took it, for whatever reason... Is this a simulation for the Gopher Project? Or something else entirely? Why ‘resurrect’ the Ultimate students at all? And why is there potentially a scenario where Tsumugi loses, but Monokuma still wins? WHY DON’T I HAVE A FULLY CONFIDENT ANSWER FOR EVERYTHING FFS -

Oh, and of course, Kokichi Ouma was 25 steps ahead of everyone and had Rantaro’s figure in his room too, so that’s cool.

So, I have no idea what we’re talking about as far as levels of involvement, but here are the ones I read fanfic RELIGIOUSLY for back in the day. So, behold my shame.

Cats (oh, my sweet, innocent 12 year old self) - Mistoffelees/Victoria.

Phantom of the Opera - Raoul/Christine/Erik, tbh. I started off E/C, then shifted to R/C when I realized E was a trashfire, then went to R/C/E when I realized that I loved garbage after all.

Van Helsing - Anna/Dracula. Which is impressive given I’ve never. Actually. Watched it. Sue me.

Carmilla - Carmilla/Laura.

The Pirate Queen - Graínne/Donal, one of the first fics I ever wrote. (And then never published.) Yes, he is a garbage fire in the musical, but in my very specific rewrite of it, he wasn’t. Though these days, I kind of lean towards Tiernan/Donal or Tiernan/Gráinne/Donal. Garbage pirate OT3 is garbage.

Chauvelin/Percy/Marguerite from The Scarlet Pimpernel. I do not accept constructive criticism on this one. Because Percy/Marguerite are sickeningly sweet on their own, Marguerite/Chauvelin has That Sexual Tension in Where’s the Girl and The Riddle, and Percy/Chauvelin fulfill all my requirements as far as enemies to lovers ships are concerned.

23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.

I’ve talked a lot about Forgiveness being one of the very few things I’ve written that I’ve ever liked and the ONE thing that I feel…gets my idea of how L/R WORK together and probably shows off my style best, along with Fowl Play (WHICH HAS FANART NOW. WHICH I’M STILL NOT OVER BECAUSE MY BABY HAS FANART.) So, instead, I’m going to shift to Pour la Peine, which…is my messy, messy child in many regards, not the least because it’s so much longer + still isn’t finished.

(Warning for various and assorted personal, squishy feelings, as well as cancer mentions)

When I first got the prompt from @fallenidol-453, it was January of 2018. Two months before, I’d received the news that my uncle had Stage Four Esophageal Cancer and my mother had moved from our house to his house to care for him, leaving me without her help for the first time in my life, which I deliberately kept as low-key about on here as I could be, given that, to be honest, dealing with the endless “I’m so sorry to hear that”s gets very exhausting after awhile and I was a college student with a schedule to keep. And he and I had a very…contentious relationship, despite the two of us being alike in many ways. Possibly because we were alike in many ways. And, by May of that year, he was dead. And I would learn shortly afterwards that my paternal grandfather had died in January, but no one on my father’s side had bothered to tell me. I spent a lot of time trying to deal with the stress of that time, juggling that with my schoolwork and my fanfic, which I tried to work on from the time I received the prompt onwards. (Tbh, I’d had the opening scene in my mind for awhile before, but I hadn’t had a larger plot + ending until the prompt.)

At first, I thought that I would publish it like I’d later publish Forgiveness, in one straight chapter, but as time went on and on and there became less and less of a shot of having it done any time soon, I ended up just publishing the first chapter and deciding to update it from there. And that chapter got a lot of ribbing from friends. “Her brother is dead” really came off as a very melodramatic first line, but I also decided, very early on, that I didn’t care about what the objective quality of it was; all I cared about was creating a snapshot of a time in my life, just like when I go through the stuff that I made when I was twelve and I laugh about the various and assorted OCs and questionable phrases but love them all the same because they’re my twelve year old self’s. And, where I was at that point in my life, writing Solène mourning a family member who she had a difficult relationship with while I mourned a family member who I had a difficult relationship with, it was the only line that felt right to me.

There’s a lot of things with this one that I’m still not sure about. There’s a plot twist that I’ve tried to be quiet about for all this time (that I’ve probably been really terrible about keeping, tbh) and that is either going to be the Jumping the Shark moment or the defining moment of it, and I’m obviously not sure how that’s going to be received though I want to believe I’ve foreshadowed it enough to not make it too much of a swerve, I’m not sure how I feel about the ending, there’s a lot there that’s murky and probably more reflective of my writing a year ago than not, and I’m not sure about how I’ve handled the character dynamics given what we’ve got in canon or the dynamic I’ve put them into, or whether the choices they’ll make reflect THEM or what I WANTED them to do. Hell, with a few things, I’m not sure how I’m even going to GET to the ending.

But, I’m really proud of how much I’ve had the chance to work with Solène and Olympe, I’m really happy with a lot of the work I put into sequences like the two chapters long March to Versailles, which involved looking into a LOT of personal accounts as well as secondary sources analyzing it, and I liked trying to flesh out Solène’s world. But, more importantly, of everything I’ve written, it and Le Cri are probably the most directly personal to me, and even though a part of me still says Her brother is dead is a hell of a melodramatic opening line, it fulfilled its purpose. And, tbh, sometimes that’s all a fic needs.

45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?

This is so hard for me, because there are so many fics that have left a huge impression on me throughout the various fandoms I’ve been in. In 1789 alone, I was thinking of at least two different fics at a given point, which is both fantastic and minorly stressful given how small this fandom is (one of which, incidentally, was Little Dove Heart, since that really gave me a huge push as far as Laz and his backstory and his characterization and his relationship to Artois, even if I tend to keep the latter more in the background). And there have been so many fics I’ve read that I’ll remember and go back to periodically, and that really helped me as far as looking at how character voices could be developed and how description would work and how to work a time period and a setting into a story.

Overall though, I think I’m going to have to give it to Vae Victis, which is a work by @sineala‘s. I’ve never been quiet about my undying love for the Gauls and for Brennus in particular. Brennus is one of my historical favs, and I felt like this fic did a really, really fantastic job of bringing that much-neglected period of time to life and developing the characters on their own, without me having any background in the source material. With fanfic, especially with a more active fandom, there’s kind of an expectation that everyone knows the characters involved, so to be able to work in a different time and to get the reader fully invested in the characters and their relationship in their own right is a really fantastic accomplishment, and to be able to show the Gauls and Brennus (in what little time he gets, because my boi’s not the focus and I accept that) as three dimensional figures rather than a rampaging horde is always much appreciated. And it has a WORKS CITED page at the end, AKA the eternal key to my heart.

Oh, this opens up such an interesting dialogue between source material and fanon, bc in so many obikin fics we could arguably say the roles are almost entirely reversed- especially a lot of Sith!Obi-Wans.

And how many of us in obikinville like to fix Anakin's Fall by simply allowing him to attain what he pursues? So very often, Padawan Anakin, given Obi-Wan's love, never reaches that "half-Sith" state Dooku identifies on the Invisible Hand, even after the Tusken massacre- or even is called to atone for the Tusken massacre, and does so. And how often does Knight Anakin on the verge of Falling, given Obi-Wan's love, still never Fall, never reaching the monstrous mentality of pre-suit Vader on Mustafar, and in fact ends up becoming more human again as events progress?

It draws up the discrepancy between greed and hunger again. We all say Anakin Fell because of his greed, as GL worded it- interpersonal greed/controllingness and/or the lust for power to be exact- but on an interpersonal level, how often and for how long was he simply starving? Sure, Obi-Wan gave him positive reinforcement, but that's not a person's only emotional need, and certainly not a teenager's. Each can certainly lead to the other, and tbh Anakin's life looks like kind of a vicious circle to me where he's deprived, he grasps because he was deprived, he's deprived again because he grasped, etc.

It kills me to draw parallels with Frankenstein's monster especially, who most can agree never would have behaved monstrously if only he'd had some sense of family- either in not being rejected by his creator, or in having a companion like himself.

And also making me think so much about the textual and metatextual ableism that gets applied to Vader's injuries, which has kind of always been a running theme in the Gothic genre too and often pain and disability there seem to serve as the tipping point between a sympathetic "monster" and an unsympathetic one, but either way equates the Other- whether Othered by being wounded/altered, phenotypally atypical, of xenocultural origin, or of atypical creation etc- unequivocally with the grotesque.

We see this a LOT in modern villain coding as a whole, but not necessarily with the nuances of Gothic romance and more in line with modern ableism than historical ableism. Bond villains. Horror movies using the DSM as a monster manual. Even just the use of cool scars to separate standard heroes from antiheroes. So often blended with queercoding that it's hard for me as a queer disabled person to feel out where one ends and the other begins.

I also think about how like. Before the concept of bleeding kyber crystals, Sith crystals used to be red because they were synthetic. Both processes seem analogous to forging Anakin into a monster with his Fall.

I'm not sure if I'm being coherent or not here basically with the idea of Vader as a monster created, hand-forged by the combined actions of Obi-Wan in a fight and Palpatine in an incredibly violent "surgery", and as someone pointed out after owk ep 1, Obi-Wan punishing himself by working for 10 years as a butcher, and how those two were always warring for influence over Anakin, but Palpatine habitually punishes Vader and never himself.

not to sound Delusional (i probably do) but i think vaderwan is quite gothic adjacent as vader fits the death/monster/haunting archetype whereas obiwan fits the maiden/prey/hunted, and obiwan was tortured & trapped by the horror and the love but he managed to save himself by the end (smth significantly present in gothic story)

I think I made a post about this a while ago. vader has ALL the pillars of a Classic Monster combining traits of Dracula, Frankenstein, The Headless Horseman, The Invisible Man, Phantom of the Opera, and the Wolfman. He also is very adjacent to, if not flat out representative, of the God/Science, Sacred vs Profane dichotomy of Gothic Lit. He encompasses the discussion of Madness vs Society/Expectations, the agony of Animal vs Man, and the pathos of God vs Mortal, and Faith vs Science.

Obi-wan very much conforms to the Angelic Light/Science-as-Reason, Prey, Hunted, Maiden-as-Innocence, Lured-by-Darkness, Protector-of-the-Monster, Hero-yet-Villain, Dr. Frankenstein, Driven-Mad-By-His-Creation, Love-can't-save-you: but I still love you because we are each other role.

Vaderkin is Heathcliff, Obi-wan is Cathy. Vaderkin is the Monster, Obi-wan is Dr Frankenstein, Vaderkin is Dracula, Obi-wan is Mina. Vader is The Wolfman, Obi-wan is Gwen Conliffe. Vaderkin is Headless Hessian of the Hollow, Obi-wan is Ichabod. Vaderkin is Hades, Obi-wan is Persephone.

You could also draw parallels with "modern" gothic horror such as Bates Motel (Anakin as Norman, Vader as Mother, Obi-wan as The Victim). Or things such as the novel Deathless. You can throw Palpatine in there as well and it would be the full trifecta of Father (The Force - God /Palpatine- The Devil), Son (Science - Obiwan - Belief), Un/holy Ghost (demi-god Vaderkin).

One of the reasons why Obikin reads as so "romantic" (as a genre) is because of their parallels with Gothic Lit/Film. On the one hand they are Greek Tragedy, on the other Gothic Romance. Not to mention their sexual tension because of their inability to be together, of course, which is extremely Gothic.

There are SO MANY EXAMPLES you could draw from the OWK of heavy heavy Gothic influence: Vader as an unknowable ghost, the masked man, the mechanical man, burning each other in holy/unholy fire, bites that transfer poison (Obi-wan's burn), holy water (bacta), broken mask, LITERAL and psychological hauntings, wounded!Monster, Lover-as-Mercy...

Misery (SPOILERS)

Hello everyone! I recently made some of the characters from Misery in the dollmaker. Misery is one of my favorite books. It’s an incredibly popular historical drama and it’s been translated into a bunch of languages. The translator for Rivikni was really excellent.

Anyways, characters! I didn’t make all the important ones, just a few of my favorites. One of the things I thought was really cool was all the different types of purples that come up. It has some of the best purple representation I’ve ever seen. I’m also going to include a brief summary at the end in case you really want to read it.

Velhannes Hannes

(None of the options really looked like his actual weapon.) Anyway, Hannes starts out the story being released from prison. He actually briefly considers being a criminal again, but he changes his mind and becomes an upstanding citizen. Except he breaks the law -- okay, it’s kind of complicated, but the short version is that he spends most of the story on the run from the law. Even so, he’s probably the most unambiguously good characters in the whole story.

Verde

(I couldn’t find anything that would have fit his historical outfit, sorry.) Tbh Verde is one of my favorites. He’s a police officer trying to catch Hannes for breaking parole. He’s really dedicated to the law, even when it means that people starve to death. His backstory is super interesting too, but I don’t want to give too much away. He’s the only non-purple that I mocked up.

Tefan

Tefan is really controversial. Even though she’s purple, she uses her light hair to get a job as a sex worker so that she doesn’t starve to death and so that her daughter doesn’t die. I would probably have more sympathy to the complaints if it weren’t life-or-death. Plus, given the out-of-caste stuff that the greens and yellows do in Part Two, it seems kinda suspicious that Tefan gets all the hate.

Euphrasie

Don’t let the hair fool you, Euphrasie is actually purple. She’s Tefan’s child by a yellow who abandoned her once she got pregnant because he didn’t want to be sterilized for not being able to afford the credit. Because Tefan wasn’t planning for a pregnancy, she doesn’t have a credit, so she works out this complicated arrangement where she lets a different purple family raise Euphrasie and pays them money, in exchange for them spotting the money. It’s really complicated, though, and that means that when Tefan dies Hannes is able to adopt her (which is good, the family is really abusive.) She ends up marrying a half-grey yellow, Maijus. I didn’t include him because he’s kinda annoying.

Ponnine

Ponnine is really cool. She’s the bio-child of the people raising Euphrasie. When she’s small, they’re really nice to her, but they neglect her when she gets older. She ends up being one of two purples to join the revolution in part two (the other is her brother). She’s usually seen as a symbol of how even if your parents suck, you don’t have to. Oh, the controversial thing with her is that at one point the police institute a curfew and she disguises herself as a grey so that they’ll let her carry messages.

Anyways, plot summary below the cut if you want to check it out but also really want spoilers for some reason.

The story starts with Hannes being released from prison, where he spent five years for stealing bread. His parole officer is Verde. He tries to find work, but no one will hire him. Eventually, he gets taken in for the night by a stranger, and he tries to steal the strangers stuff and run away. He gets caught, and the stranger claims it was a gift. Then he runs away again, goes to a town where no one knows him, and sets up a factory.

Fast forward two years. Tefan is working in Hannes’s factory, which is really successful. One of the other factory workers finds out about Euphrasie and tells everyone else about the weird arrangement and says she makes bad decisions because she had to get the credit aftermarket -- this is a big deal because of the social norms of the country. Tefan gets into a fight with her, then fired. She tries to make a living through legitimate purple work, but when that stops being enough she takes advantage of her light hair and goes into sex work. Verde catches her, but Hannes uses his influence (the town is really small, and he’s basically acting as the mayor since they need someone to do it) to get her set free. She dies because she’s badly injured, but not before transferring custody of Euphrasie to Hannes. In the meantime, Hannes reveals that he’s Hannes to Verde to stop an innocent person being executed in his place, then escapes.

Hannes rescues Euphrasie and takes her to the city. (She’s one at that point.) Fast forward three years to Euphrasie’s first spring. She meets Maijus, who’s a radical yellow student (a lot of people think he’s green because he’s a radical, but he’s actually not) and they fall in love. Verde finds out about Hannes and Hannes tells Euphrasie they need to leave.

Meanwhile, Maijus ends up part of a LITERAL REBELLION AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT. Basically, there’s this blue who was a big supporter of purples, and he dies, so they’re worried the government is going to oppress purples -- except if you listen to their concerns they’re things like, random greens can’t afford opera tickets, rather than actual purple concerns. So Maijus and his friends (a mixed group of greens and yellows) start a revolution, thinking purples and greys will join them.

Maijus wants to tell Euphrasie they’re leaving, so he has Ponnine (who secretly has a crush on him) send a letter. This is the part where she disguises herself as a grey. She brings it to Euphrasie’s house, where Hannes takes it and reads it. Hannes sneaks out to join the rebellion so he can protect Maijus. In the meantime, Verde pretends to join the revolution, but Ponnine’s brother exposes him as a spy. When Hannes gets there, he saves some people’s lives, asks to be allowed to kill Verde, then actually lets him off.

(I just want to note -- for some reason Tefan doing sex work even though she’s purple is more controversial than greens and yellows taking up arms in the street? Wtf, fandom.)

Anyways, the revolution is a total failure because the greens and yellows behind it don’t understand the suffering of the working class. Hannes and Maijus are the only survivors. Hannes secretly saves Maijus’s life. There’s a bunch of complicated stuff involving people finding out about other people’s pasts. Eventually Maijus and Euphrasie get married.

It’s the few who we see in videos that show a lack of training and or skill under stressful situations. The difference with the outrage is they have a decent influence on so many sectors of this country, you can literally be black balled for life from anything. The collective identity makes sure that you think in terms of Group first and prior to anything else. On top of this, Judaism actively teaches infiltration of positions of power, politics, msm, and so on simply in order to better their chances at survival by group based nepotism. Imo the narratives have been twisted by the winners. This where the whole “history is written by the winners” phrase comes in. You have a full understanding of just how powerful the influence is when it comes to people just simply speaking about, or asking genuine questions etc.
