ok hear me out
so y'know the four hero/villain terms?
hero: does good things for good reasons anti-hero: does bad things for good reasons anti-villain: does good things for bad reasons villain: does bad things for bad reasons
well i decided to make the four of them into four characters and they're all BEST FRIENDS (and super diverse)
i'm also trying to break the stereotypes for them... like:
-the (aroace) hero is a cinnamon roll, but he's the antagonist
-the (lesbian) villain has a huge crush on the anti-hero
-the (poly) anti-hero is a sexual assault victim
-the anti-villain is just kind of a vibe
when i finish character sheets i might post more about them idk but i love them

tank moment - mauga
summary; title slightly irrelevant, i wanted to be funny. iykyk
genre/extra tags; headcanons/bullet fic, i talk about mauga hcs i thought of on the fly, reader is implied to be a support character, reader is also part of talon group, fluff, i only know the bare minimum about him and that's all i need baby, is this platonic or romantic idk
[gender neutral reader] [canon typical violence mentioned]
a/n; im back on my overwatch era. it never really ended but, i want to write about him, mauga, the beloved. typing this on my phone and finishing on my computer if anything seems wonky shhh dont tell me i'll relive that mistake for days
also this is a somewhat lightly reseached- aka not fully accurate/detailed work. i briefly mention samoan culture and if it offends or if it's a mistake, please tell me and i will erase those parts asap.
[support me and buy a kofi]
🗣 ALRIGHT SO ‼️
i've been watching and playing with/against mauga since the trial to play him came out and god i love him
but he's kind of easy to counter (im an ana main, nade is fucking broken but that's just anti heal things) and his ult is annoying
anyways
every tank needs their heal bot to keep em up
you just happen to be mauga's heal bot KDJSJSJ
(baptiste is too probably but not really)
he's a really smug guy
no one really knows that bc he sounds so upbeat and nice
but he loves to tease you, poke at you bc he knows that you will answer to him most of the time and entertain him in conversation
you and him are probably in your world even when you're both in talon tbh
he does his own thing and you just happen to join in
(he totally baits you to join his plans and you both know it)
he's a chaotic and cunning man and you're his enabler
(sounds like me and my bestie tbh)
"a hero would sacrifice you to save the world but a villain would sacrifice the world to save you" type beat
he's lowkey possessive but we dont talk about that
jk we do talk abt it
he's your scary guard dog privileges
like that man is tall tall ‼️‼️
idk why but i dont really imagine him being like an openly sweet person
he keeps it private even with how loud he is
anyways
you know how he's on a yacht for his origin story and there's like a bunch of people who got destroyed by him?
yeah he would totally do that shit for u if you asked.
he would give you the best home but
"thanks for the new place and all but did you have to kill someone for it?"
"i mean come on! this place is nice! let's enjoy it!"
he's very "i'll do the dirty work, just sit back and look pretty." and then you're like, "yeah i could. but i won't."
dps support vibes for you ✨️
but also he's charging in most of the time so, there's not much time to dps support KDHDJDJJD
he's like the kool aid man bursting in through the walls /j
cough
back to the hcs here...
he's so tall and big, he would totally let you hang off his back like nunu and wilump (from league, yeah i play league dont remind me totally gonna write for heartsteel soon tm)
also he's literally the greatest heated blanket (ahead of roadhog)
he's so stronk and wowowowow im so gay i love him
when you're surrounded by some enemies, he's charging in, slamming the ground and carrying you with ease as he keeps you safe while destroying any enemies who even tried to touch you
ugh
despite his lack of pda, he's a very actions over words.
he's so silly
chivalry isn't dead when he breaks into a jewelry store for u 😍😍
if you ever have those crazy thoughts about crime, he's totally gonna enable you and let you reign havoc on god knows what.
love language is actions and gift giving. enough said.
when he gives you a hug, he's so fucking warm omg
i said it before and i'll say it again, he's the best heated blanket, literal furnace
bad for the people who sweat easily though (ahem me lowkey)
one the off-days where it's just a day off and relaxing, he's taking care of you well !!
when you're on talon missions, since he can't run around as easily unless he gets the okay but you do keep him company until then
he likes to protect but he loves destroying people
he knows you're able to care for yourself, so he can go crazy whenever, and he loves that.
he also loves watching you get mad or angrily passionate
"yes go, la'u ma’asoama!" (my rock/stone, get it? bc his name means mountain)
he is a really good hype man. even if you're the one in the wrong.
god I WISH I LOOKED UP MORE ABOUT HIM ARGBHYKFJ
soon (tm)
someday i'll write more.

Fuck it I guess I'll go first.
Why oh fucking WHY was the Ever After not the fucking AFTERLIFE!!!! Seriously, this would have been so perfect as a fucking arc not only for Ruby and her team encountering the people who had died along the way while helping them grow. Since you know when good ol' MKEK, aka. "We can't write for shit." did say Volume nine was about growth until they double baked for one of the most poorly written depictions of mental health ever. This was so bad that it made Thirteen Reasons Why look good! Yeah I went there!!!
The amount of missed opportunities that was there we could have seen Penny explaining to Ruby why she had to die in order for Winter to get the Maiden Powers proclaiming that it was more suited for her rather than herself.
Weiss reuniting with her grandfather and even standing up to her father again along with her antecedents and descendants that she is her own person now and reinforces it by showing Jacques why he was never worthy of holding up the Schnee title.
A final showdown between Blake and Adam with the inclusion of Spirit Sun (since in Before the Dawn, he said he saw visions of a tree. Pertaining to Yggdrasil which I am calling it that since in Volume nine it was only called the Tree and that was it.) with blake promising that she will try to make humans and faunus try to understand and come together in her own way if she must. While Sienna Khan and the other faunus murdered by humans or anti-faunus rights activists all place the future of the Faunus on both hers and Suns shoulders.
Yang learning from people from Taiyangs bloodline how to control her anger so much so that she even admits that she isnt perfect to Blake and tells her to find someone that will love her more than she. Alluding to Sun as he was there more for her than Yang was, which the two agree in a platonic manner.
Oh and the fact we could get to see a mix of Ancient Remnant peeps, Afterans and even mythological creatures (respectfully since they NEARLY shat the bucket there) Oh and the BIGGEST ONE OF THEM ALL .
RUBY MEETING SUMMER ROSE
Sweet Jesus even up the stakes a little by having their souls fall apart as they travel across the Ever-After in a Race Against Time Arc but at the same time we see their semblances Evolve and Grow against the main villain the Red Queen (Not the Red Prince since I like to think he is cared for by the Curious Cat) and the Curious Cat not being some stupid twist villain again but this time someone who was created by the God of Darkness as one of the only "good" creations he had seen. and at the end the Tree of Yggdrasil gives Ruby and Co.... the biggest question to be answered right in front of them.
A WAY TO BEAT SALEM
Like holy SWEET MOSES it is so easy to do a Journey through the Afterlife Arc while giving the characters more time to flesh out and help them grow.
Hot Take Assessment:
This is a really cool idea actually. Tbh I think what I would’ve done for the Ever After is keep the gang separated for longer than like. Half of the first episode.
Keep yang alone since she was the first to go down. Maybe have that connect to her backstory of being abandoned by Raven. Maybe have Blake & Ruby sticking with each other. Develop more of the bond that the two started to have in V8 bc that was really cute and I’m bummed it kind of went nowhere.
Keep Weiss alone and actually FOCUS ON HER AND DONT MAKE HER INTO COMIC RELIEF and how she deals with the fact that her entire home is just. gone. Also the fact that she was the last one standing after her friends presumably died around her.
The one thing I’d change from V8 here is that none of ORNJ falls. Not in a “Jaune gets too much screen time” way, but in a… it makes the cast less messy for this season, way.
And have Neo in the shadows chasing them around. Maybe even throw in some familiar faces, deceased or otherwise. Some purgatory like thing idk.
I might just make that a fic😧
TL;DR Ever After should’ve been a lot less Alice in Wonderland (because they somehow made wonderland boring :() and a lot more Avatar’s Swamp episode.

hi this may be long so sorry in advance but
i always loved hp and when i got into the marauders i started caring about sirius, remus, and james more (peter hater till i die unfortunately i can’t get behind him) and like every marauders stan i despised despised severus, i thought that since he was in a known death eaters friend group and called muggle borns mudblood he was unredeemable. but then i saw more and more pro snape content and it made me feel bad for him, james bullied him (which i’m still not even sure if it was classified as bullying because james didnt have any power over him and it wasn’t even 1 vs 4 it was 1 vs 2 so i’d like to know your opinion on that as well) and he had an abusive parent, but then i saw snily shippers (i am a major jily shipper fyi) saying how james basically manipulated lily into marrying him by not telling her he still bullied snape, how the prank was the best thing to happen to james because their “fights” wouldn’t be seen as bullying but as a teen rivalry, how james was the rich boy who got everything he wanted and he got the poor girl as well, how it was him constantly asking lily out and her always saying no etcc, so ik this may sound stupid but i love ur takes like ur always sooooo fucking real so if u want to share your opinions on these like if u think any of these things are wrong 🙈 id be glad bc i dont know how to feel about severus and idk how to feel about jily either which is just making my small world inside of my head crumble bc i used to love them so much
Of course and thank you! First of all as I've been saying I don't think it's necessary or even really a good idea for us to base our preferences or interests in fiction with our moral beliefs. so we can accept that snape or james did bad things and still like them. Fiction gives us that freedom to delve into aspects of humanity that in real life we might try to avoid. So I don't think you should feel bad for liking james or severus or jily or whatever. Ok, that being said let's get into it:
First it's normal to feel sympathy for Severus, he's a sympathetic character in many respects! That's what makes a good anti-hero (or even villain. we're even supposed to feel sympathy for voldemort and barty crouch jr at certain points)
what james and the marauders did was definitely bullying. there's no way around that. you say james didn't have any power over him but he did; social power. You touched on economic class, which is a big factor, but James was a popular student and Sev was deeply unpopular. whether it was 1v4 or 1v2 or 1v1 doesn't really matter in terms of whether it was bullying, though tbh it was really 1vthe whole school because the spectators also participated in Sev's humiliation.
However, in my mind there's almost no way that Snape wasn't instigating just as much, possibly more, in seventh year. Like you think he was just going to sit around and accept that his worst enemy was dating Lily? lol. I tend to believe Sirius when he says that Sev "never lost an opportunity to curse James" like good for him get his ass. But I think it was definitely a different dynamic in 7th year than in 5th. there's this tendency to portray Sev as being a meek little helpless victim his whole life but personally I feel that's a disservice to his character-- this is the guy who invented sectumsempra 'for enemies' like three guesses who 'enemies' was.
re: jily, I really doubt that James manipulated Lily into anything, I think that's such an overdramatic reading lol. We don't know much about the way they got together-- although many fic writers have taken it upon themselves to fill in the gaps-- but everything points to them having been happy and in love, that clearly was the intention by the author. If James didn't tell her about duelling Snape that isn't great, but there are a lot of things that can be imperfect in a relationship without jumping to manipulation and abuse which require a specific pattern of behaviour that we have no evidence for. We also only have the external perspective of Sirius and Remus, which is likely incomplete.
(also James 'always asking Lily out' is fanon, we see him ask her out ONCE albeit spectacularly badly. it seems more likely to me that lily 'you make me SICK' evans simply saw james grow into someone she rly liked rather than gave in and gave in so fully that she married him bcause he was pressuring her. idk she didn't read like a pushover to me.)
So no need for world crumblage! It doesn't sound stupid at all, but I think it's important to keep in mind that we can enjoy fictional characters/relationships that aren't perfect, in fact those are the ones that I find more enjoyable. It's totally possible to be a fan of snape and james and jily and snily all at the same time, fandom tends to create conflicts or 'shipping wars' or whatever lol but idk if that's necessary. I don't see it as a moral debate or an either/or, I just find all the characters and the dynamics between them interesting.
For instance, you mentioned the class differences between Lily and James, and I always thought that was probably a point of contention in the relationship; but to me it's one that makes it more compelling to explore. Relationships irl are rarely perfect and evenly-matched from the start, they take work. Similarly people are never perfect- they learn and change and grow. James did, Snape definitely did. otherwise they would be boring and unrealistic as characters.
#ANYWAY the point is that its fine. haha. like what u like u dont need to justify it. to urself or to anyone#very long answer haha but it was a long ask to be fair!#i have a few more asks that i'm going through rn. so if you've sent something sorry for the delay!#jily#meta#replies

I didn't even realize until you mentioned that Amren acts more like a High Lady than Feyre. Tbh I'm really shocked to see SJM treat the main character of ACOTAR that way. She's not done this with any of her the fmcs so this is very strange to see. Referring to Feyre as just "Rhysand's mate" is... certainly a choice. It's as if she's letting the audience know that she doesn't care about Feyre and it's just Rhys for her. This is worrying me for Elain because if she's shafting the main fucking girl who started it all for the dude she has a boner for what will she do with Elain because she clearly likes Az a lot. I'll throw the book away if it's just AzrielAzrielAzriel-a little bit Elain-AzrielAzrielAzriel. I know it's stupid because she always focuses on the girls more but lately I don't have any faith in her. She's just doing anything now and writes solely for self-indulgence.
Yeah, many of my mutuals disagree with me, I can totally see her doing an Azriel book under the guise of Elain's book. She'll do the bare minimum with Elain, or will make her another Aelin and will completely destroy her character, but then will write an Azirel book.
I know Ive been very negative about SJM lately, and I am not an anti, but the choices that she's been making with her writing, with her books, leave me very unsatisfied and frustrated.
I think everyone on ALL sides is over-theorizing and over-analyzing. She gives me no confidence in that she is actually going to follow through with any of her plotlines.
She just throws stuff in she kinda feels like writing about NOW, but then she might not wanna write about it later, so she just..won't. Right now, the ONLY theory that I am pretty sure she will write--out of the sea of theories and plot lines--is some kind of bond breaking/nullifying. That's it. Because she 'feels like it'. Beyond that, there is no consistency with anything. We could be in Prison, in Illyria, in Erilea, under ground....We legit dont have a villain right now! Who is it? Koschei? I don't know. Maybe. It's been 3 books and do we know anything more about him? Nope. Could she have set up him or another villain? Sure. Did she? Nope. Do we have Elain set up? Nope, not really. We haven't seen her since ACOSF. We haven't seen Feyre in ages. All we see is Azriel and Nesta, her two current obsessions.
I refuse to theorize or even pay attention to any theories. Kudos to everyone who still thinks she is a consistent writer with a 'plan', but anyone who goes and rewrites an entire book in 5 weeks, clearly has NO plan.
I'll write fanfics, post some art, talk to you guys, but I find myself not knowing anything with any degree of even remote certainty right now.

reverse unpopular opinion the authority
i didnt rb the meme but. man................ i literally forgot they existed 😭😭😭😭 lemme see if i can remember anything—or rather, if i can find smth positive to say abt them... considering the comics' writing in the later stages.
bc like. heres the thing: the authority as a team—theyre a relic of their time.
the 90s & early 00s were just... so edgy, so nitty gritty unapologetically right there in your face with their fuck the world attitude that you can see it in every media, from movies to tv shows to even wrestling (just look at wwe at that time!! impact wrestling/tna & czw & njpw too!!). the fact that the comics werent spared from this kind of mindset where everything goes, no holds barred, & if you dont like it then fuck off is why the authority are a relic of that time.
...& tbh? idk what state the dc comics are in right now. i dont know if dc can even handle that kind of attitude anymore. but itd be so, so nice to see it back. itd be so fucking nice to see a team do the things that the goody-two shoes superheroes cant or wont do bc of morals & whatever other reasons they got. the authority laid the ground works of what anti-hero/anti-villain "if you fuck w someone badly enough we're gonna beat you up. we might even kill you & nobody can do a thing about it. we follow our own rules." teams should be like.
theyre the blueprint of what dc is trying to make the suicide squad be, with amanda walker as the handler & agent of a bunch of killers, trying to make them do good for once in their lives. except the authority looks at the world & go "we can & WILL fix it bc yall fucked it up."
the authority as a team is so fucking edgy... we need to bring back that 90s edginess in media... or maybe im just nostalgic for that time period in general.
2nd edit bc my brain is rotting w rdr2 nowadays: (looks at the dutch van der linde gang in its early-mid stages before dutch lost his mind & descended into madness) (looks at the authority) ...im sensing a theme here. "we kill folks as need killing. we give to the poor as need giving. we save people as need saving."
#asks.#me: i dont remember anything. / also me: (goes on a rant)#i hope this makes sense bc its nearly 6am & i. need to sleep... at some point...

I am insane for your tma x dc headcanons! I have to ask, do you think any of the other dc characters are entity aligned? Heres a few hcs i had:
The Scarecrow: honestly might be an avatar touched by all the fears like Jonathan Sims. Probably like Sims, he started researching the fears and Scarecrow became obsessed w them. If i had to go with a single entity, i would say he is Dark/Corruption/Eye alligned
The Riddler: Eye or Spiral alligned
The Joker: slaughter or corruption (the angst if Jason shared an entity w his murderer!)
Poison Ivy: Extinction?
Harley Quinn: hunt or stranger aligned? She was hunting down the cure for Jokers issues, but he wasnt who she thought he was and she became the prey
Killer Croc: Flesh babey!
Two face: maybe another slaughter?
The penguin: Web
I dont know enough about non-batman characters to do others tbh
Okay, so in my opinion plenty of characters have been touched by various Entities or even marked by them in ways that can motivate them without fully being Avatars or aligning themselves with those Entities. Like, Scarecrow just screams to me of someone who was touched by the Spiral (and is probably in real danger of becoming an Avatar,) but he’s holding on to his own sense of rationality as hard as he can and trying to make Fear make scientific sense. Someone who would walk out of an impossible corridor, and spend weeks measuring the outside of the building trying to find where the hell that corridor was supposed to fit, before sending someone else in to see if they experienced the same thing, only to become fixated on the differences… Not saying that’s what happened, but Jonathan Crane had some kind of experience with the embodiment of Unreality itself, and he definitely feeds it regularly.
(Harley, likewise, seems more like a victim of the Spiral, Corruption, or Stranger than anything else. Oh, she’s still a supervillain/anti-hero depending on the day, but her origin story is of her mind being broken by the Joker’s abuse. That is either depressingly mundane, or being chewed up & spat out by one of those three Entities.)
I hadn’t thought much about most of the villains, but I am 100% with you on Ivy being an Avatar of the Extinction, and I can definitely see Croc as an Avatar of the Flesh. I’d throw in Hugo Strange as probably being at least aligned with the Spiral, and Pyg has definitely at the very least been marked by either the Spiral or Flesh (though I don’t know him well enough to say if he’s a full-blown Avatar or not.) If you only saw my first post, I also decided Talia & Ra’s are both aligned with the Web, though Talia values her own freedom enough I don’t think she’s a full Avatar. They’re the ones who helped Bruce find the Mother’s embrace. Damian was supposed to be a Web Avatar as well, but he’s just a little too desperate for love when nobody’s looking; his swarm is silk worms & moths, and he does manage to fake it for a while. If Joker’s an Avatar, it would either be the Stranger, Spiral or Slaughter, in my opinion, but I always like when experts of every kind take time to study Joker and are like, “Yeah, IDK WTF is going on with that guy, but I hate it.”
(Jason is an Avatar of the Desolation in my version, because the Slaughter is about the violence on as large a scale as possible while the Desolation is about the very personal aftermath. The Slaughter is War, where the Desolation is something taking out your entire life in one single night and leaving you behind to deal with it. Jason absolutely wants his targets to be scared of what will happen, what he’ll do to them, but in a “destroy everything you’ve ever worked for & drive away everyone you ever cared about” sort of way; not a “blow up an entire city block for no reason” sort of way. And given how much Jason cares about protecting innocents, he’s actually partially starving himself by not following through on complete Desolation the way people like Jude Perry do. Imagine if The Archivist (around s3) tore out the last page of a statement & threw it away without glancing at it before he started reading. That’s basically what Jason’s doing to himself.)
Some people in the DC universe, though, are just Like That(TM). Sure, it can be hard to tell supernatural trauma apart from genuine mental illness, but it’s still a superhero setting and some people are just little freaks (affectionate.)
Like, Oliver Queen? Just a little freak with a bow. Just a weirdo. Black Canary? Superpowers, but not of the Fear Entity induced kind. She’s just Like That(TM).
Speedsters? Oh honey, you better believe they’re all just Like That(TM). Anti-Avatars, if anything; those bastards basically became one with a potential aspect of the Vast and went “But what if I was just. Like. Nice about it? Or only mean in extremely specific, petty, personal ways? What if that?”
My main “outside of Gotham” thought is that Amazons are aware of the Entities. Primarily, they have to be very careful & monitor eachother for signs of potential influence of the Hunt, but they’re aware of others beyond it (though they might define the Entities along different lines thanks to cultural differences & all that; I don’t have any specifics, I just really like that headcanon that while certain fears are nearly universal, the way different cultures group & view them are going to be different. Like, if spiders are viewed as purely benevolent & good luck by the culture you were raised in, it’s very unlikely any capital-f Fear is going to have a spider motif. Smirke separated the Buried from the Vast, but aren’t they both primarily about being overwhelmed, about Too Much? At the bottom of the ocean, is there any difference? Why should other cultures draw that same line?) This created some tension with Batman at the start of the Justice League, as Diana knew even if he wasn’t lying when he swore to have the best intentions, Batman was still walking a razor’s edge; he could become a monster so very easily. On the other hand, it was a huge relief for Dick (who, again if you’ve only seen my first post, I’ve changed my mind on and decided he’s a Hunt Avatar) when he first met the other Titans and they all went over their powers, to have Donna realize what he was talking about and promise to stop him if he ever lost control. A promise she has actually had to follow through on a few times, when a villain got into their heads and pushed Dick too far; he sleeps better at night knowing Donna is both willing & able to wrestle him to the ground and keep him from hurting anyone, even when Dick’s gone full-feral.

Thank you so much for the Jason review rec list! It motivates me to start reading his comics, tbh. It helps tremendously that you put so many details of his characterization in it, because it prepares me of the way hes written in it! :D I do have a question, which is: in your opinion, which of runs have the most consistent writing/characterization? Ive heard that hes written.. very inconsistently bcs they dont know how to write him (wont let him be an anti-hero or challenge batman, which also brings me to another question on what counts as his true characterization; is it him before the n52 reboot?) Thank you!
I'm really glad to hear that! I hope you have lots of fun exploring Jason comics :D
Wow are both of those questions very difficult to answer! But I shall do my best to under the cut!
Most runs are very internally consistent with regards to his characterization. Jason will stay mostly the same throughout the run, or have an actual character arc that keeps him feeling like the same character throughout.
Batman and Robin (2009) is a notable because Jason is written by two different authors in it, and Grant Morrison's Jason and Judd Winick's Jason have very different vibes.
What people usually mean when they say he's written inconsistently is that every author has a different take on what Jason should be like, and they all have a different idea about what kind of story they want to tell using him.
Judd Winick read Hush and thought something along the lines of "Wow this story would have been so much better if Jason had actually been the one behind everything that happened here!" and so he wrote Under the Red Hood, and made Jason into Evil Batman: someone with all of Batman's methods and techniques, yet without the commitment not to kill and with a serious thirst for vengeance.
Grant Morrison wanted a much more traditional Batman villain. Villains who blame Bruce for all their problems despite Bruce not actually being at fault and then killing people about it are pretty common. Morrison took that idea and used Jason to fit this mold in a new era where Bruce was gone and Dick Grayson took up the Batman mantle.
Scott Lobdell wanted a story about redemption and healing and family. So Jason gets repeatedly paired with other people to care for or to love and shown parallels in his own life that force him to confront his own unwillingness to forgive and become a much, much gentler person.
The authors of The Man Who Stopped Laughing were faced with the challenge of finding a suitable antagonist for the Joker. Jason is a character with enough of a violent streak to actually be menacing to the embodiment of all evil that is the Joker. But that requires bringing out that murderous streak, and thereby countering Lobdell's characterization.
Which of these is the true characterization?
None of them.
All of them.
One True Characterization can't exist in comics. Especially not DC comics which has a policy of almost routinely destroying their entire multiverse and building it back up from scratch.
Every character's personality is an aggregate of all the different stories that have been told about them. Those stories are told by dozens of different people, in a constantly shifting setting, full of characters who are also written by dozens of different people. What is and isn't canon changes constantly. All you can do is read a bunch of comics and get the general vibe of a character from that.
Jason's characterizations in particular have been so widely different that it's hard to figure out what exactly you should count as being true to him.
The reason many people may point to pre-new52 comics as 'true' characterization is that an important part of characterizing is keeping in mind the events the character has gone through and how those might impact their thinking and worldview. During the time span of around 1980-2009 DC comics were written such that it was pretty easy to make a timeline of events for any given character. Post-new52 I and many others find it nearly impossible to tell what history any of the characters have.
In between 2009 and now there have been at least two or three reboots. So, for any comic passed 2009 here is a list of questions about Jason that I can't answer:
Has Jason ever been to prison?
Did Jason fight Tim in Titan's Tower?
Was the Red Robin identity originally held by Jason?
Did Jason ever attempt to be Batman?
Has Jason actually stabbed Tim before?
Did Jason ever shoot Damian and Dick?
Does Jason remember the time he spent multiverse hopping with Donna Troy and Kyle Raynor?
Did he ever have tentacles?
Does he know that Dick has killed people? For that matter: Has Dick killed anyone?? Did Blockbuster ever exist??? Is that time he killed the Joker counted as canon still????
Did Jason ever kidnap Mia Dearden?
How many people has Jason killed? I can't even tell you if he's killed less or more than 100
Did the All-Caste thing happen?? Did Lost Days happen???
Was he involved in Hush?
These are really important questions! The list does not stop there either!
This uncertainty does not invalidate the newer comics, but the nature of the reboots does mean that the already difficult task of getting a 'true Jason' is impossible. You have to take every reboot as a reboot, meaning that new-52 Jason and Rebirth Jason and 2005-2009 Jason are literally alternate universe versions of each other. This is both true on a meta level, and has been written into the canon of the fictional world he lives in. Arguing that one is more real than the other is futile.
(Though it does mean that if you want a stable timeline, starting with 2005-2009 era comics is a good idea. It's easier to follow along with what is supposed to have happened and when. It also contains the majority of the events that fandom likes to play off of.)
The versions I like best reside mostly in the 2005-2009 era, and that's true for most of the other Jason fans that I follow on Tumblr, but I know of a few blogs who much prefer Rebirth Jason and neither of us can definitively prove that one Jason or the other is more valid or canon or true or whatever.
Most arguments about which Jason is the true Jason will just come down to personal preference anyways. Many, many people could write essays, pulling up sources and comic panels, to argue very effectively that I'm wrong about Brothers In Blood and Batman and Robin (2009) #1-#6 being in character for him. That's okay. It's cool even! The fact that he is messy and complicated and can be interpreted so many different ways is great! As you read, you'll find out which versions appeal to you best and they might be very different than mine!
My biggest advice is to read each author's rendition of Jason with an open mind, and an open heart, and just see if you like it!
Don't worry about searching out the real Jason. Just vibe with the stories that have been made about him and think about how each appeals or doesn't appeal to you. If you start reading, you'll develop an understanding of him. Your personal interactions with the art/stories will always be more valuable than figuring out the fan or authorial consensus about him.
#jason todd#damian's tomfoolery#Hope this answers things satisfactorily anon!#And thank you for the ask :3 I like rambling about blorbo and comics!

ok so i was able to log in thru my laptop so as promised here are my in depth thoughts on korra
so we all know lok came out like years ago so what im gonna say probably has already been said like thousands of times over and over, i think when the show first came out i saw a few eps of it and then lost interest. but i was like 15 or something at the time so whatever.
i have noticed that some people who liked lok better have said that people who dont like lok as much just dont like change, and idk maybe thats the case for some, but my main criticisms for it come from the writing inconsistency. to be clear i thought it was a fun watch! did i like it? yes!!!! did i love it?? not so much
i think what bothered me the most was the pacing of the seasons. now i hate to draw comparisons to atla, but they are part of the same franchise so I Will. one the things that made atla sooo good was the overall mission stretched over 3 seasons, with secondary villains providing obstacles along the way (zhao, zuko, azula). this provided characters with enough time to develop along the way before facing the big bad (and building suspense to ozai), but still keep viewers entertained through out the seasons
i didnt really feel the same suspense when watching korra. each season had its own conflict and big bad, and none of them really seemed to come back up a lot after they were already defeated (except for korras uncle i forget his name tbh)
i think any of the conflicts they had would have worked if they chose to stretch it out over the course of the show. the anti-bending movement and the water tribe civil war would have worked best in my opinion. they anti-bending movement drew valid criticisms from non-benders, and its really weird to see all of that vanish after amon was defeated. as for the civil war, unalaq (i googled his name lol) fell flat for me, he was just kinda evil for the sake of being evil. at first his motivations were intriguing and made a good foundation for the conflict aka wanting to combine the tribes again by bringing spirituality to the swt by force, bt when they brought in raava and vaatu it just kinda fell apart. this plotline definitely would have worked over several seasons, but i kinda wished the origins of the first avatar would have remained a mystery. i am a firm believer of not everything has to be answered
because the show was so fast paced, characters really didnt get the spotlight they deserved, esp team avatar. the gaang in the first series really all had their moments to shine, and you could rewatch the og season over and over again and notice something new every time! im not sure how well this would work with lok since the rest of team avatar didnt really get their own fleshed out story lines
korra: had the most development ofc. i think she was a great protagonist. it makes sense that aang would want his successor to get proper training before getting thrown into avatar duties considering he was like 12 when he had to fight the firelord. korra, whos been training her whole life, is caught in the middle of conflict in republic city, and its clear to me that her training took a priority on bending the elements, rather than being a mediator, which is the duty of the avatar. she’s like a fish out of water, and as the series progresses and we see her fight the antagonists, this takes a toll on her and she goes into a slump. it was a very fitting arc for her character
mako: he was just kinda there for me. bit of a jerk at first and i really did not like the whole korra/mako/asami love triangle. it was all very forced imo considering korra and mako only knew each other for like a few days before they were confessing feelings for each other
bolin: obvs the comedic relief character. the show doesnt do much for him either which is sad bc i did like his character, hes funny and has a cute design. ill draw another comparison to atla and say that while sokka was the comedic relief, his character was deeply complex and multilayered
asami: my angel my daughter my cinnamon apple. im glad asami was able to reconnect with her father before the show murked him. korrasami was cute and they compliment each other: korra, whos more emotionally reserved vs asami who is empathetic and patient but also is true to her beliefs and holds her ground
anyways this post got super long and if u read this i love u. feel free to comment if u wanna start a discussion. much more to say but my fingers are tired bye
#some honorable mentions in tags#lin was sooo sexy and her family dynamic resonated w me#hate hate hate that toph is cop but thats a whole other thing#didnt like kataras reduced role where even was she during the civil war??#zhu li suprisingly might be one of my faves despite her limited screentime#insert spongebob meme#i also really loved jinora#didnt like the way multiethnic characters were treated but thats also for another post

i was thinking of making a story using an idea like this
like a bunch or kids and teenagers getting powers like dc and marvel and instead of becoming a hero or villain (despite some having their parents like that) they just do what they do and live in a house where shenanigan's ensure because they can feel the pain and can emphasize with each other because they know each others pain and can help. while some big hero and villain company tries to get them on their side but the kids dont want to. and they turned to some kind of vigilante anti-hero thing (honestly idk what it is tbh, they help people but at the same time dont?) while they deal being super kids/teens and still have to do their quarterly exams
“ Listen, just because I got these powers doesn’t mean I’m going to go out and risk my life for a bunch of strangers I don’t know for reasons I don’t understand!”

can selfships be classified as "problematic?" i'm worried because i self ship with a character i have a very large age gap with (them being the older one) and i'm scared that if i'm public about this antis might harass me.
alright so im gonna put this under the cut bc i rambled on for too long and its a bit discourse-y.
...sometimes antis call certain selfships problematic while they dont for others that should be just as "problematic". Some antis have no problems with people selfshipping with villains, slashers, etc. But will get mad when people selfship with characters who have done things they personally can't excuse like rapists or abusers, or selfships with age gaps especially if they are younger...or even just selfshiping with a character people think are gay even if its not canon (its still dumb even if it is canon cuz like 1 persons selfship isnt gonna take away representation guys).
I'd like to say that selfshipping with an older character shouldn't be an issue however some people have no common sense and are hypocrites and think that an adult consensually dating an older adult is pedophilia. And this isn't just a hypothetical either, i follow this one selfshipper who is in their 20s who selfships with a character in their late 40s, and i've seen them get called a pedophile even when no child is involved and the character is literally older than them...they either must be mistaken or just tossing out serious words and watering down the meaning of them.
Of course, if anyone says this to you or anyone else in a situation like this, just know that it is completely dumb and you are not at fault.
My suggestion would be to make a new side blog for your selfship stuff. In 2018 i had an old selfshipping blog but it became inactive due to seeing antis in the community and just embarrassment in selfshipping in general. It wasn't until last year when i got the urge to post about selfshipping again after following some proship selfshippers, then i made this blog and started over. You could start new and make it clear that you don't want antis to interact with you. Block anyone who sends you harassment and turn off anons if you need to. I'm not so open about being proship outside of this side blog tbh, but only because the community is full of antis and i just wanted to avoid them and curate my own experience. There are a lot of things i would say if i didnt feel i would be harassed or loose friends/mutuals over it...and i just dont really like to discourse anyway...except for in private with people i know share similar opinions with me and we all bitch about some dumb take we see online. Having friends or people you follow share similar opinions and beliefs can make you feel less alone.
...honestly..ive had this blog for a year and im at 100+ followers and ive had anons on for a long time, im actually surprised i havent received hate yet...while recent-ish i got a random anon on my main blog that just said "kys". I have no idea what prompted that response...it took me 5 years on this account for me to get hate xd. maybe i am just low profile, or people think they cant get a reaction out of me so they dont bother me, or both.

10 Anti LO Asks
1. i see LO stans defend it as "it gets some people into myth! thats good!" like?? i dont think ive seen a group of readers less interested to learn the actual mythology than lo readers because theyre convinced that IS the truth and RS is so accurate about it. yeah they know it doesnt take place in modern times but why would they question hxp being consensual, demeter being the bad guy, apollo being a [redacted], and so on? they tried to edit the actual gods' wiki pages to match LO for gods' sake!
2. I remember awhile ago there was an ask about heads being used for height and I would like to add 7 heads is used for realistic height and proportions, so yeah, it's a bit weird LO Persephone only averages about 5-6 heads best with even shorter limbs that are not proportional to her (especially her legs for some reason? Her torso is usually too long too) while LO Hades sometimes goes beyond 8 heads (which used to show extreme fantasy proportions) with too long limbs. RS has an art school degree!
3. it really seems at this point lo artemis will end up a villain too because shes framed way too much as anti hades and close to her brother to not be. i can def see rachel pulling she's a "tragic" villain who didnt get enough love as a child and shes so jealous of poor persephone and what she has over her that we'll have to pity her while also wanting her to suffer for being the first person to stand in hxp's way. rachel loves her "twist" villains after all.
4. LO sees more and more clear to me it's about trying to make us feel bad for Hades and show he "deserves" Persephone as a symbol of his desires (a wife to not push back against him or his actions, a wife who does whatever he wants, a wife who is dedicated to giving him heirs and will drop everything for him, etc) while she's just ... there. RS can claim all she wants it's a story about Persephone but it's really about how Hades should get what he wants with Persephone being the ultimate "prize".
5. so persephone who was originally studying biology (which makes perfect sense for a spring goddess to study) now wants to give that up to align even more with hades??? rachel please stop claiming youre "empowering" persephone when you have literally ripped every unique feature from her to make her just hades 2.0. she has NOTHING left to her that was her own while he's given up nothing for her. Hades gets his perfect, docile wife and everything he wants while she has noting and bends to HIS whims.
6. i think rachel also thinks over-complicating the story makes it "deeper" which is not the case?? theres nothing wrong with a simple story (and tbh the hxp myth is straight forward in what to do with it) that overcomplicating it with politics, courtroom drama, attempts coups, and a full out WAR really?? adds nothing to it?? like its supposed to be about hxp getting together too so it even more is just filler that she doesnt have the skill to tackle.
7. i realize the assets arent the same between CSP and Photoshop but you can google greek photoshop brushes or greek architecture in sketchup and find countless free assets?? like theres so many resources at her disposal to at least make LO look aesthetically like it's greek (even superficially) but even that's too much of her. Like why make it a story about "greek" characters when she clearly just wants to make a story about NYC socialites hate poor people 🤔🤨
8. RS really desperately wants to come across as some deep, complex writer who is so well versed in genres and tropes and how to 'twist" them as if the majority of her writing isnt just playing the tropes completely straight with zero change, tumblr posts, memes from 2015, being overtly sexual in how how horny P is, and "borrowing" theories from fans who have more creativity than she does. rachel, honey, youre writing juvenile smut for kids, youre not reinventing the wheel here.
9. I swear white women like rachel and miller are convinced theyre ~subversive~ for depowering powerful goddesses to then "empower" them, putting a gross emphasis on them being sexually abused by random men to excuse them being "dark', then having them be obsessed with and throwing away their lives for the sake of a man. also a dose of hating mother figures. how is rick riordan a white cishet man who shows more respect and nuance in his series for kids than two women writing for literal adults??
10. The thing with deconstruction in lit is that it's used to look at other interpretations of a story's meaning, but H/P's myth was very set it only had one meaning? RS is basically claiming she's found a secret better meaning in the text which was never there and claiming it as fact. That's why most call their H/P stories a "retelling" instead of deconstruction, bc retellings has the leeway to change whatever they want, but deconstruction means academic dissection, which LO very much is not.

heyy heyyy hiii, i just want to get reaction from u cause i don't have anyone to talk sooo anywayyy.. i have this thing in my mind (a theory i guess??) soo todays leak, i saw a panel where wakasa, benkei and shion have a angel emoji... so back then we're overthinkin if hajime or ran will d word right??? SOOO this is what i think.... what if ran and haji are safe BUT someone wasn't... back then wakasa, shion, koko and ran were the only left who have a angel emoji right??? and now the two r gone and benkei switched... so what if pah or takashi have a angel emoji too but it wasn't released YET. or some1 or any1 in TOMAN GEN2 have... (sorryyyy it's confusing, you can ignore me if u want.... will ask this as anonymous cause i'm shyy)
baby, dont worry, i can perfectly understand what you meant! honestly, i think pah WILL DEFINITELY get an angel emoji and im not even trying to say that mikey will kill him w/o remorse or pity,
mikey is not a villain, he can be an anti-hero and an antagonist, but not a villain, you see? literarily, an antagonist is just the character that opposes the protagonist, not necessarily being a bad part, for example:
kisaki is a villain AND antagonist, mikey is an antagonist who MAY become a villain, you see?
anyways, im pretty sure manjiro will be the lime shovel in pah's life and, tbh, i dont think take will be able to save jiro, and im not even talking about not wanting to do it cuz it's pretty obvious take WANTS it
now, about mitsuya... jesus... i have such diff feelings with him, now that The Reaper is back in action, the only person who could stand up to Hanma was Draken, who is dead, Mitsuya neither alone nor with Hakkai has enough stamina/endurance to defeat him, especially after Ran&Rindou
like, i dont know if hanma will for real kill mitsuya but if he does, we can say that the timeline where all the toman founding members are dead will be restructured with the bonten timeline, because we have:
draken ❌
baji ❌
pah (probably) ❌
mitsuya ???
kazutora (lol he must be grateful that he is not free from prison)
mikey

NOT TO MENTION its always been crazy to me that post-beacon there wasnt more anti-faunus movements; i know the writing team was trying to backpedal and move away from having to handle that in any sort of way, let alone in a respectful way but it IS odd;
weiss says that her family has been targetted by the white fang in the past and that family friends and board members have been MURDERED by the white fang. and now they very publicly invaded a school, that happened to be hosting students from All Over, causing death and destruction, and yet jacques doesnt even try and use that as his justification for keeping weiss locked up; even if he was lying and just using it as a manipulation tactic, it would have been EASY for this man to say that "he would rather her hate him if it meant he could keep her safe from the white fang; ironwood already took one of his daughters, he'll be damned if he will let those terrorists take his baby girl!" if only to the party guests; it makes him hate-able from the audience perspective if we know hes lying...
what if he wasnt lying? all good villains think theyre justified, if even just in their own twisted way, and i think thats always whats felt off about jacques as a villain to weiss; theres no depth given to jacques as either weiss' father, nor as a business man, nor even as someone who targets faunus (though tbh its WILLOW thats given the anti-faunus sentiments, even tho thats in the comics). but give him a fairly basic but understandable motivation of "these faunus have killed my friends and colleagues, and now theyve attacked the school where my daughter was training at; she could have DIED. i wont let her be put in that position again" its not right, of course, and its not fair, and it comes from a place of racism but its realistic and more importantly, its BELIEVABLE.
i dont know why im even trying to deepen jacques as a character lol i think he is just so emblematic of my problems with the sdc based plots and characters and im bitter that weiss after all of that still thinks her family is actually so cool and amazing
what the general consensus amongst the rwde community on jacques character from a meta pov?
because i remember always getting the feeling from vol 1-3 that jacques wasnt a comedic character (comedic as in "hes a joke that the audience is just supposed to hate bc hes a white billonaire look arent we #woke please ignore the seventeen teslas our ceo and voice of taiyang just bought" way not in that hes a funny guy) and actually may have cared about weiss, enough to want her away from the military, while also acknowledging her and enabling her to be a hunter; winter says that Weiss should answer his calls if she wants his money again and explain why she wants to study at beacon over atlas (very confusing dialogue aside, this shows that its not the profession of hunting that he disapproves of, just her choice in school) and it has ALWAYS stood out to me that jacques comes in person himself to an active warzone to take weiss back home to atlas; given how far atlas is to Vale, i remember thinking back when vol3 came out that he mustve already been there to watch the finals and speak with weiss in person since she continues to ignore his calls (also i always thought it was an interesting parallel to make him a painted asset when hes shown flying the airship, to mirror taiyang being a painted asset in the first episode when ruby visits summers grave. it doesnt mean anything but its always stood out to me)
all in all, it paints a very different jacques to the one we actually got, and i wonder if that was just me expecting more nuance and depth out of the schnees as a whole, back when i had hoped weiss' arc was about uprooting these generational traumas and doing the dirty work of unlearning her issues and addressing her and her familys compliance in vicious racism and colonization and what that means for her and her names legacy, or if jacques was always going to be a joke and weiss just needed to learn to idolize a DIFFERENT older white man, the one that actually did the racism and slavery and colonization of entire continent, instead of the one that married into it and modernized it

(not a native english speaker so sry for any mistakes) omg i am so happy that i found your account because i got into the mdzs fandom by only reading the novel and tbh i did expect some jc/wwx content to be prevalent because i dreaded that since jc is one of the characters people will probably perceive as a repressed person and the whole dynamic between wwx and jc will be mistaken as the whole homophobic bully/victim situation that people like to romanticise but NO its something that i never could have prepared myself for because the few fics that i did come across all had wwx as the bully and jc as some poor maiden who just want to be loved or its an harem fic where everyone wants jc for some reason or god forbid those cursed wwx/jc/lwj fics where both wwx and lwj realise that jc is what missing in their relationship so they both pamper and spoil him (whyyy???) like these doesn't even make any sense, i remember being so confused and baffled that the person that i thought was just some asshole manchild who never seem to outgrow his toxic traits has people that genuinely believe him to be the victim of the story. i mean i am no stranger to the woobification of the villains but jc is not even a cool antagonist , he is a very well written character but the fact some people in fandom consider him to be some sassy badass who is also a soft hearted tsundere when jc is none of those things and most of his problems are self-imposed ones. istg the people who claim to be his fans dont really like canon jc because some of the fanon jc are just mary sues and doesn't have any of his canon characteristics and i find it really ironic that people who calim to be anti jc and jc critical are the ones who understand him and write him better than the actual stans . sry for the long rant but i never been this confused in a fandom before and i almost felt like i was the stupid one for not getting it..so thank you so much ,u provide me with a sense of vidication everytime i come across one of your post . I've been starved so long its nice to finally have some good content 😌.
ah this is so kind and lovely, thank you so much (ง ื▿ ื)ว ♡*:・゚
Loved reading this long rant. Rant away anytime.
Absolutely agree with everything you said. I also remember when I first came into the fandom and came across jc stans. I genuinely thought they just hadn't understood the story & tried to clarify things to them LMAO Please imagine how 'well' that went over and then make it about 20x times worse 🙂🙃 haha
ps. I got this ask twice so I know who sent the nice words, but published the anonymous version in case you wanted to stay anonymous xx :)
#mdzs#answers#canon jiang cheng#I left like 7 comments across different posts and got about 37 rants and 3 pissed off tiktok video replies

in my completely biased opinion, out of all the mxtx villain discourse, the one i think who would not only the most redeemable but who would also be the most interesting if so, is shen jiu. like i said, my opinion is completely biased because i think shen jiu is already so interesting as the awful bastard that he already is, so i also like to sit around and think "would it be possible for shen jiu to be Less awful than he is, maybe get him up to the bare minimum of decent." and because i spend so much time thinking about it, yes i do think its possible.
the reason why i think shen jiu is the most redeemable outta the mxtx villains (tho tbh im not as invested in tgcf so feel free to fight me) is because the likes of jiang cheng and xue yang are just like fundamentally shitty people. like from birth they were always kinda shitty and it just got worse as they got older. and i dont think theyd be much fun if there were 'good' people, actually no i do think xue yang would be completely unhinged no matter what, i just dont care about him enough to give it much thought so hence, /biased/ opinion.
shen jiu is also predisposed to being a little fucking shit, even in childhood and i think it has nothing to do with his awful living situation. hes the type of kid who would see that you want to play with a toy and specifically chose that one to make you cry and then try to kid!gaslight you like "you only wanted it because i was looking at it youre not allowed to cry about it!!!!"
but i think in a more stable environment, as in, not growing up in slavery, shen jiu could learn to be a somewhat decent person. you know the kind of endearing anti-hero whos still an asshole but not really. like a lot of his major faults come from growing up as a slave and then thinking he was abandoned and then having a literal serial killer as a teacher and finally being caught murdering students by the guy he thought abandoned him. like im surprised it only took luo binghe having a mother and being a good kid for him to become full out tyrannical. like before lbh he was just a Shitty Guy that no one liked, but lbh came around and triggered every part of his nasty little brain and was like "fuck this kid in particular, im sending him to hell."
i think theres a lot of moments in shen jius life that could have changed him from "awful nasty child abuser who enjoys inflicting pain on literal helpless children out of his own pettiness and jealousy" to "he's okay... i guess". i mean, the most obvious would be qi-ge somehow breaking him out of slavery or finding him quicker or yanno speaking to him. because i think knowing that the one person he cared about in the world didnt forget about him would have mellowed him out just a little.
#shen jiu#scum villain#idk i usually hate thinking about what if scenarios bc what you get is what you get#and i literally didnt care about shen jiu#until i read his extra#and like hes just a character i think about all the time#what could have been yanno#tho i think he plays a great villain#you dont get many villains who at the end of it all#not only get the last word#but also dont regret a single thing theyve done#even tho they were paid back their actions tenfold
