it is interesting to me that sam is judgmental about dean’s eating habits, but, from what I remember, he’s fairly non-judgmental about his drinking habits in comparison. while sam goes through phases of wanting to eat “cleaner” he never wants to give up alcohol. do you think this indicates that sam is also pretty dependent on alcohol himself but less “showy” about this than dean who jokes about needing alcohol more often? or is it more that he knows it comes off as insanely hypocritical bc of his demon blood addiction where he went off the rails while dean is still functional even during periods of heavy drinking?

Interesting question. I don't think hypocrisy has ever stopped a character in Supernatural from saying anything tbh. But I also don't think Sam sees anything wrong with the way Dean drinks most of the time. This is a man who tried to give Dean beer for breakfast when he was suicidal (13.05). And I think the reason he was offering Dean breakfast beer is also pretty key to understanding why Sam, for the most part, shuts the fuck up about Dean drinking: He isn't actually good at dealing with Dean not being okay. It scares him. I'll come back to that in a minute.

I think fanon sometimes makes more of Dean's relationship with alcohol than it is. I'm not saying there aren't points in the show where Dean is very obviously shown to have an alcohol problem. I'm not saying his relationship with alcohol is normal (though his relationship with alcohol is pretty normal prior to him going to hell). I am saying I think a chunk of fandom tends to think of Dean as someone who is more or less constantly buzzed for most of the series, and that's just not accurate. After hell, Dean begins drinking to fall asleep. He is binge drinking a significant amount before bed by mid season 5 after the Harvelle's deaths (5.11, 5.16). But it is to fall asleep and it cuts back to a glass or two a night by the beginning of season 6 after a hard fought struggle we get small references to between Dean and Lisa (6.01, 6.06). Dean would be dead on a hunt within a month if he was constantly day drinking, and the show notes to us specifically when Dean is so out of sorts he feels the need to do that (see: 6.06, where Dean drinks just to be able to stand being near Sam, after being assaulted the previous episode while Sam watched and smiled). A glass of whiskey or two before bed becomes Dean's new normal from season 6 onwards. When his drinking ticks up from that in one season or episode to another, there's a deeper problem going on that Dean is struggling through. I only mention this because when I actually think of points where Sam might say something to Dean about an uptick in drinking... it's not going to happen as often as fandom sometimes imagines.

Sam understands Dean's options as far as dealing with nightmares from decades of reality-bending torture are highly limited. Realistically, Dean has zero access to qualified professional support. Suppose Dean took sleeping pills instead of drinking to fall asleep. Would he actually be better off? Would he eventually abuse sleeping pills instead? Would that just put something in close proximity to him that he could even more easily overdose on? Because... Dean also isn't a stranger to suicidal ideation, and Sam is very aware of that, and I wager he gets a hell of a lot more antsy about the thought of Dean having constant access to sleeping pills than he does about Dean drinking a glass of whiskey or two before bed. In the fucked up world they live in, as far as Sam's concerned, Dean's relationship with alcohol is usually "under control" in a relative sense. I think Sam understands Dean's use of alcohol and he accepts it... and he isn't going to get judgy, because Sam isn't good at actually handling Dean not being okay. Dean not being able to cope scares Sam however he might pretend to play Mr. Therapist (see my tag: #bad therapist sam).

If Dean chooses to cope with nightmares and sleep disturbances using alcohol while still being functional during the day, Sam isn't going to say a word. When Dean's drinking gets bad, for example, in season 7 when Dean constantly carries around Bobby's flask, I seem to recollect Sam speaking up about it at least once—at least in vague terms? But we'll see when I get back into season 7. (All I remember right now is him joking that alcohol is a "vitamin" for Dean in 7.18). I really do think in general, as far as Sam as concerned, as long as Dean's drinking doesn't effect his job performance... it's all good. He generally isn't going to touch it with a ten foot pole—not even to joke.

It is true at the same time that Dean's relationship with food also is and continues to further develop into a coping mechanism. Dean eats when he's grieving or sad and when he wants comfort. Food makes Dean feel safe. However, Dean also eats when he's happy, and Sam's judgments when it comes to Dean's eating usually happen when Dean is happy eating instead of sad eating (or when Sam at least perceives him to be happy eating).

I think the specific connection between Dean's drinking and hell may also play a role here. Sam failed Dean deeply on the hell front and I think he knows it. I won't even mince words: it is Sam's fault that Dean never talks about hell. Dean was opening up between 4.08 and 4.11, but because of Sam's cruel turn in his framing of that traumatic experience, Dean's hell trauma is forever the silent looming thing that no one talks about. Not Sam, not Dean, not anybody. Getting judgy about Dean drinking to fall asleep could easily open cracks in Dean's own self-imposed wall and Sam is smart enough not to scratch at it. Not just for Dean's sake, but for his own, because that betrayal intersects deeply with Dean's broken trust in Sam in season 5, and if there is one thing Sam's ego absolutely cannot take, it's reminders of moments where he proved Dean could not trust him.

been thinking about some peoples complaints about how the movie handled alex's coming out as opposed to the book.

part of me understands because the movie did sort of neuter this as well as the depth of henry's mental illness, but at the same time i understand why. the movie is already two hours long and tbh if they wanted to do a fully faithful adaptation (which imo is not necessary) it maybe should've been a mini series.

and aside from taking out liam, tbh i still think that all happened just wasn't shown, and the fact that this is why alex has always known he's "lowkey into dudes" i feel like people don't fully grasp what alex goes through in that time after new years in the movie.

not every bisexual person has the same experience, but i can relate to alex pretty well both in the book and in the movie in terms of his sexuality cause they actually are pretty similar.

a lot of times when you're bisexual you just feel like everyone feels this way. you sort of feel like being straight is what being bisexual is, because the idea that others do not experience attraction to the same and different genders sounds... fake. like. i'm not even joking when i say i have a hard time believing straight people exist. i fully, of course, believe gay people exist, but people being straight and not queer at all makes me ??? sometimes, even now that i have identified as bi for over ten years.

then, there is a pretty big difference between knowing you experience same gender attraction from time to time and actively identifying as a bisexual person, as a queer person, a member of the lgbtq community.

bisexuals, to this day, are made to feel like we do not belong by both heterosexual people and our own community (which is why ellen telling alex the b in lgbtq is not a silent letter realllly matters) so sometimes you really do just shut out that part of yourself and choose to see yourself as straight because it's not worth fighting all the biphobia that you face, but it's still a part of you that you are shutting out and repressing, which is what alex was doing with henry the entire time and where his alleged dislike of him comes from in the first place. henry hates how much he loves alex so he's mean to him, alex doesn't understand why henry is mean to him because he wants henry to like him because he ALSO has feelings for him and those things clash.

during the time that henry ghosts him alex has time to evaluate himself, his feelings and his identity. he has the time to say "this is not something that i am going to ignore about myself anymore" and it may not be as magnified as it is for henry because they're in different positions in terms of support systems, it's still powerful.

when he comes out to henry, you can tell he is getting used to thinking of himself as bisexual but you can also tell that he is nervous to say the word, because telling someone you're bi is ALWAYS terrifying because you don't know what they might say to it. on top of that, you can feel that it is important to him to say it, to tell henry who he is now that he understands it.

being bisexual and identifying that way, and that being part of who you are and carrying it in your heart is a different thing than being like "yeah, whatever i'll make out with someone at a party" even if the latter is still a valid way to be queer. and sometimes you just look back and realize that [x] experience was NEVER straight.

and the best part of the movie to me is henry's complete acceptance of this. henry never ever questions alex's attraction to him, he never questions if alex will be able to stay committed to him, if he will leave him for a woman, if he's confused, or any of the things that STILL happen in media with bisexual characters as leads and as a bisexual person that has been one of the most freeing things to watch.

so yes, alex's bisexuality is still very important and handled as such in the film, in my personal bisexual opinion.

What is your advice on handling criticism?

I saw your response to a critic on Lore Rekindled in the sub and it's very good and you could say, professional.

I have a big problem of people-pleasing, so if I get critcism (eventhough it's very polite), I get very sad at the fact there's fault with my work (I also suffer from perfectionism). It will drastically change how I see my work, and in the end I give it up 😭

I totally get that struggle though, I know it probably doesn't seem it at times, but I do have the 'ole RSD (Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria) due to being ADHD/autistic, so I totally relate to the whole people pleasing thing. It's hard to feel like something you made isn't making everyone happy! But that's also ultimately not what it's for. You can't make everyone happy, and your art doesn't deserve to exist any less just because some people don't find it their cup of tea.

I've definitely had to like, disconnect my work from myself over the years to get better at taking criticism. Not to the point that I get apathetic, obviously I should be invested in whatever I'm working on, but enough that when people criticize my work, it's not necessarily an attack on my own self.

And if they are clearly just out to attack me, then I dismiss the criticism, it's of no value to me.

Unless it's something that's specifically a result of my own values or biases bleeding into the work, most of the time it's people literally just saying, "I like this work, but I feel like it wasn't as strong as it could have been here and here" and that has nothing to do with me as a person, I'm just still polishing my skills and those outside opinions help to target specifically what needs improving. I think we as artists pour a lot of ourselves into our work, especially when we're just starting out, so it can be hard not to take criticism as an attack or rejection of yourself, but we have to ultimately remember that we are not 100% of our work. Even with works like LO, while some of the criticism I give of it is indicative of Rachel's values and personal preferences as a person, a lot of it is also just about the work itself and how far it's fallen beyond what I assume Rachel intended from the beginning.

I've also learned to separate helpful from unhelpful criticism. I'll use Time Gate as an example because I've gotten way more input on that series than Rekindled (just because I've actually like, intentionally sought out criticism for it). A common criticism in the past was that there weren't enough backgrounds and the story's pacing wasn't concise. It sucked to hear at the time, especially the backgrounds one, because I'd heard that one time and time again... but it was literally because I wasn't doing anything to improve them. You know what stopped those criticisms? Drawing backgrounds more LOL And I still suck at backgrounds tbh but I feel like I've definitely improved compared to the first few volumes when I was just drawing characters on top of white constantly LOL

So that was helpful criticism! My art wasn't as strong as it could be in a few specific places that people were clearly able to pinpoint, so I did what I could to improve those places and I'm still working on it.

Unhelpful criticism has just been either personal attacks (not valuable) or statements that are basically asking the comic to not be what it is, criticizing things that are features, not bugs. Things like "well I think the story is too anime-like", "it's a lot to try and read", "why don't you draw eyelashes on the girl character", etc. which are criticisms of things that I know are intentional. The story's anime-like because that's the story I want to write. It's a lot to try and read because it's intended to be a longform series for people who like reading longform series (people like me!). I don't draw eyelashes on Uzuki because she would look terrible with them LMAO (we even made a joke about that later on):

And actually, the example you're referring to where I responded to crit in the ULO subreddit, is also an example of unhelpful criticism, though the person who posted it definitely didn't mean any harm by it, but the crit was literally "why aren't Persephone's boobs big enough" which I thought was pretty funny. She still has boobs! I just don't draw them popping out of her top like Rachel does LOL I also don't give her the exaggerated pinched waist or broken spine that Rachel often gives her because that's all just to, again, emphasize her boobs, and it's often unnecessary, especially in a comic that's being marketed as a feminist piece of work, yet is often drawn completely through the male gaze. So yeah, that was definitely crit that wasn't really beneficial because it was literally just about Persephone's cup size lol

I know it's easier said than done, but when you feel that sadness coming on in response to criticism, remember that that criticism exists to help you, not hinder you. Considering you've been getting polite criticism, that means the people giving it likely have your best interests in mind and want to see your work improve. The only way to do that is to learn how to critically analyze your own work, and the only way to do that is to surround yourself with works whose quality you want to achieve, and get outside opinions. And if that criticism isn't in good spirit, then toss it aside. If it's not going to help you, then it's not of any value to you. And yes, it will take practice, there are still times I find myself getting overwhelmed, but ultimately I can't control what anyone else says or does, only what I do. So I funnel that into my work and I always keep moving forward.

Be at peace with the process of learning and improving, because you never stop having to learn, there's always something new to improve, and that shouldn't be taken all doom and gloom "I'll never be perfect", that's literally just the process and beauty of being an artist, there's always something new to learn and that's something that should be exciting!

Think about whenever you give criticism or have personal critiques of other comics. I'm willing to bet most of the time, you have those opinions with good intentions, you're not trying to attack anyone. So why not give yourself the same grace?

I don't mind people popping into my ask box at all, but I'm a little concerned you're being rather passive aggressive with this. There are marks of trying to start drama, but we can handle that.

In a large fandom like One Piece, I think it's important to realize that it's not a ship, or a certain kind of shipper that can be antagonistic. It comes down to an individual. With as long-running and well-loved as One Piece is this means a lot of different kinds of people in effectively the same area.

Everything from 12-82, I'm sure. From the USA to Japan and all latitudes between. That's a lot of culture, and a lot of different view points.

And whew, when it comes to fandoms and shipping, there's a lot of different viewpoints within a single culture, so it's gonna get messy.

That's a lot of words for: I see a bit of a red flag when I see "x [group]" gets mean.

I'm a ship and let ship person. I know people who prefer to avoid certain shippers or even people with certain head canons about characters because it's discordant with how they feel. AND THAT IS COMPLETELY OKAY - so long as you're not being mean about it. Blocking someone to avoid content you don't want to see doesn't make you bad, even if that content might be completely benign to others.

But to answer your question, I don't think anything should be canon except what the original author decides to make canon. For any fandom. For any ship.

Playing in the spaces between canon, fanon and whatever else are the best parts of writing fic and drawing art as far as I'm concerned. I love being able to pick and piece together the things I enjoy and sometimes I love being able to completely decimate the things I enjoy.

I love it all though, so ymmv. I love seeing things that hug canon like it's gospel, and I love seeing things that are nearly brand new original creations because they're so different. Because at the core, what I really love seeing is the shape that people's JOY takes.

I'll admit I think Luffy x Nami is pretty cute. I'm not much of a shipper (I tend to crowbar in self-inserts and x readers into ships more than canon x canon), but I can see it. Nami's got the kind of personality that I could see her getting along with pretty much anyone else on the crew.

Hmm... Brook and Chopper aside, but yeah. She's, I think, canonically like the second-smartest (non-vega) character in the series. Just behind Beckman if I'm remembering my SBS right.

BTS Fic ask! Was gonna do Nightsongs, but since it's still ongoing, here's a throwback.

Like I Am Safe Again: 7, 10, 26

Oooooh, now that's a fun one! It's hard for me to tell if that fic is just unpopular with people, or if folks don't have much to say about it (tbh both are reasonable) but it's one of my favorite things I've written for the fandom lol. Thanks for asking about this one ���

7. What inspired the idea for the plot?

Other than the fact that expanding on "memory" for Shadowheart is one of my favorite things to do, it was a couple things! I was finishing up a reread of the Realm of Elderlings series, and I've always resonated with "outsider" characters in pretty much everything I read/watch/play. People that are, through their own actions or happenstance, sidelined in their own lives is very fascinating to me. That feeling of never being able to actually reach out and interact with others in a meaningful way because of what they've done, said, or because of who they think themselves to be is creative catnip for me. My love of that series and those types of (frustrating) character moments influenced the way Shadowheart in that fic continually tries to manage everything herself without once relying on people that would immediately help her. At least, at first. Shadowheart has a lot of (mostly appearance-based tbqh) benefits other outsider-types don't get, but trying to focus on the aspects of her that disconnect her from the others at that point in the timeline (namely her early secrecy, her mid-game zealotry/hesitancy) intersected really well with my canon divergence from the first part of that series. There are clear themes of repression, self-ostracization, and insecurity within her storyline that I just love. I was also obsessed with exploring her character that way after I had the thought: "how does someone who already deals with memory issues handle dissociation?"

10. Share a screenshot of the original outline.

OK, so my outlining method for that fic was kinda unhinged. I think I had an outline at one point, but it was probably a bullet point system. At some point, I either deleted it or it was never actually written down? Either way, I know the original version was actually a long one-shot like "It Is the Wound She Gave Me" but it kept getting longer and longer. Then it became three chapters/three mornings. Then I kept adding moments to expand and expand, and eventually I just had to admit that it should probably be a short multichapter lol. Some bits I know that I changed: Chapter one used to be just the "prayer at the tree" scene, Chapter two didn't have the fireside chat/episode until I was nearly done writing the whole thing, and the Epilogue didn't exist until I realized ending on Chapter four left things a little too bleakly open for me.

This Au has been cooking in my head for so long, that I, to be honest, don't really know where to start or end, but I'll give my best to stay on topic

Yes, Masked Feathers is basically a Ducktales 17 and Pkna Crossover, though some other aspects from the Comics are also present (like events from other comics having happened, or a certain one-of-character that I really really love being there. I'll talk about him sooner or later)

To give a (hopefully) short summery, it all started with me being pretty pissed about how they handled Donald in the Ducktales Series, especially him trading places with Della on the Moon. Which ended up evolving into, the Duck Avenger is the one to save Della from the Moon, due to Uno detecting a weird Signal.

Don't get me wrong, I do love how Della manages to get back all by herself (and she would have made it back by herself here too, Pk was simply faster) but they did Donald dirty, so I'd say it's pretty justified.

Other things of Course changed too, for example I could talk pages about the Situation with Gyro, but this is getting pretty long already, I just wanted to get into the original thought.

The Au currently consists of a Main and Secondary Storyline, the Main one following Donald and well all that's happening, and the second one tbh is basically all about Stefan and Lylas Friendship. (Aka Lyla slowly finding out more about Stefans Backstory, which yes. I do have completely planned out)

And yes, Uno also gets a body

He secretly starts building it after the whole ordeal with Due, but gets "interrupted" when Ducklair gets back. Lyla (and possibly Gyro, I haven't decided yet) ends up helping him finish it. After a few upgrades he's also able to control most of the DucklairTower without having to transfer his consciousness. I just thought it would be neat

Also Pk straight up deck's Everett in the face after he offers him the money

You are not asking too much at all! I LOVE talking about my ocs lol I just don't unless asked because I don't wanna be annoying 🥹 I may post a chapter with them later on, but for now I'll share some more art I've done lately as well as a little ✨𝕷𝖔𝖗𝖊✨

Blake and Zeke are prime examples of supporting characters who immediately grab attention from the mcs. And I am 100% okay with that because they are literally my faves.

Blake is in the series from the very start. He could technically be considered a main character because of how important his role is in the whole series. He's morally grey and it's very hard to tell what he's gonna do next. Like I said in the last post, he's the leader of a gang he formed in NY, and expanded all over the country.

Blake is a black blooded demon but he's not hellborn. He was killed as a young adult and turned into a demon by someone I cannot name lol

Blake is easily 120 years old.

Zeke, on the other hand, is a 21 year old half-demon who cannot shut the fuck up or follow orders to save his own life. He's a brat in every sense of the word that nobody has been able to handle. His relationships are fleeting because he's an ass and he's unpredictable.

Meeting Blake is the best and the worst thing that has ever happened to him. Right from the start, Blake handles Zeke in a way no one else has managed to do. Zeke opens his mouth and speaks wrong, he's on the ground. However, he likes it that way. It makes him melt that someone can manage to stick around despite his behavior issues. It also scares him because the one person who can make him obey is also allergic to commitment and can be a flight risk. Neither of them like to communicate their feelings properly. Both of them have been hurt in their own way.

Their dynamic is very toxic and sometimes unsettling, but both of them prefer it that way. They don't like boring and they don't like vanilla. They both have major attitude problems and they deal with each other very aggressively.

But they find common ground. Despite being turned off by commitment, both of them are extremely possessive. To the point of violence some days. Their personalities are similar in ways of sense of humor, pervertedness and ego. Blake is much stronger than Zeke, but that won't stop the blond from throwing hands when he gets frustrated. Both of them can fight incredibly well.

Blake is 6'6" and Zeke is 6'3"

They're both fairly tall and both have noticable muscle tone. Blake is a bit bigger and a hell of a lot badder. While it's miniscule, they don't lack empathy. They have the capacity to feel for others and for each other, they just like to overshadow it with anger and narcissism. Neither of them know how to stay out of trouble,

but Blake is more organized and he has a lot of people in his pocket. Including police officers. Blake is smarter and more efficient and the only times he gets caught is when Zeke is fucking involved. There are times when Blake gets let go, but he'll leave Zeke to think about his actions inside a cell for the night.

They cuss at each other, scream, throw punches and break shit. Zeke has been sent through tables and fences. He's been thrown out of Blake's moving car. But he keeps coming back because Blake will still protect him and patch him up. Blake doesn't try to tame or change Zeke. He takes the issues on the chin and fights back. And the sex is insane. Zeke used to consider himself strictly a top until he met Blake and he won't bottom for anyone else but Blake.

Blake won't bottom for a damn soul, but he doesn't mind letting Zeke be dominant when the blond feels like it. There really isn't much off of the table for these two assholes. Zeke sometimes gets insecure because he's not a "feminine bottom" but Blake doesn't give a shit. He'd rather have Zeke just the way he is and he'll backhand Zeke if he catches the blond talking bad about himself. Their ways of showing they care aren't exactly "conventional" or "healthy", but it gets the point across pretty well. They are constantly splattered in each other's blood.

They can't kill each other, but they have a lot of fun trying❤️‍🔥

Hey, Nonny, thanks for the ask! I appreciate that you're curious about my opinion.

Personally, I don't engage with modern media about the gods much. I've had people tell me about it, and I've read about it, but there's a lot of stuff out there that I haven't really interacted with. I try not to be too judgemental, although I used to be a lot more critical of how modern media depicts the gods, but it's still not something I often enjoy. As a worshipper, my opinion is always bound to be biased, but I try my best to judge modern media for its story-telling rather than its accuracy (although that doesn't always happen, if I feel the depictions are egregious enough).

Below, I'll state my thoughts and opinions on the media I have interacted with (or at least have heard extensively about which is the case for Percy Jackson, as I haven't read the books).

I did like the Hades game! I felt it was really fun to play through, and as a game, it kept me engaged. I genuinely had fun with the game mechanics and the relationships you can build with other characters. It has its flaws, but so does every game. I've recently heard some grumbling about the way it depicts Greek mythology, but honestly, I think that if people are basing all of their knowledge of Greek mythology on a video game, it's up to natural selection at that point (this is a joke).

Along with Hades, I did find myself enjoying Immortals: Fenyx Rising. I was surprised with how similar the gameplay was to Genshin Impact, actually, but I'm not gonna talk about that lol. Fenyx isn't as widely known, but the way it handles Greek mythology is adequate and intriguing. The characters are pretty fun, and I enjoyed helping them in their main quest. The twist at the end (I will not spoil it) rubbed me kind of the wrong way, but I understood that it's just a game trying to tell a story, you know? It was fun, engaging, and interesting. Oh, and the monsters were pretty cool! I loved how they included monsters that you wouldn't really expect to see. The Hydra was a bit underwhelming to me, though.

Then there's the God of War series. Listen, I LOVED the recent additions to God of War that centered on the Norse pantheon - beautiful graphics, interesting story-telling, and a fun use of the mythology - but the original games that take place in Greece kind of bothered me. Mostly, yes, it was the representation of the gods. The way pretty much all of them were villainized (and the way they did Hermes so, so dirty, imo 💀) was a bit comical and strange to me. It felt like it lacked nuance to their characters (even Aphrodite was kind of there for one main "purpose" if you catch my drift). I also wasn't too big on the character designs of all the gods. Some were interesting, but others didn't land for me (mostly Hermes; he looks like he should be Apollo or Helios, and I just don't understand what they were trying to do with his design). Overall, it's a VERY fun series, but I find myself not being able to enjoy the original games as much because of their depictions of the gods.

Other forms of media (that are more popular), however, aren't really my thing. Percy Jackson isn't something I'm too big on. It plays into a lot of harmful tropes about the gods, and unfortunately, I've had some bad experiences with the more disrespectful side of the fandom. Not every PJO fan is an asshole, though (most aren't), which is extremely important to keep in mind (I see a lot of hate in the HelPol community towards them sometimes, so that's why I say that). I felt the plots were creative, for sure, but I didn't like the way Rick handled some topics or the way he sort of twisted the mythology for his own purposes. Like, some of these major plots throughout the series are absolutely bizarre; they make certain gods out to be massive assholes, tbh. Also, I didn't like the way Rick stated that the Greek gods "left the dangerous Mediterranean"; it just felt like a really weird and uncomfortable way to refer to Greece. I think if Percy Jackson brings new people into HelPol, then that's great, but people definitely shouldn't base their knowledge of Greek mythology on the books which is something I've unfortunately seen happen. If you enjoy the series, that's cool; it's just not my cup of tea, personally.

I think the one piece of modern media about the gods that I genuinely hate - and I really do mean hate - is Lore Olympus. That shit has harmed even the pagan community which is kind of wild. I've literally had people call me an "Apollo sympathizer" for worshipping a god who is NOTHING like the damn comic. It is an extremely disrespectful representation of the gods and mythology, and it's something that gets under my skin quite a lot. And honestly, it doesn't need to happen with the Greek gods. If you took the characters out of the setting they're in and placed them somewhere else, it wouldn't really change much, in my opinion; the Greek mythology part of it is really just used for the dramatics. It doesn't have much to do with Greek mythology besides just wanting to make Persephone and Hades the main focus. I have other complaints about it, but I will save my Lore Olympus critique for another day lol. I could go on forever about what bothers me.

@organized-chaotic-disaster I totally see what you mean 😭 (tho I haven’t played the Derek or Baxter DLCs myself). Tbh I think the main reason you can’t be poly is the fact that it would be hard to implement in an already complex game with high customization of your experience, especially since it’s written by one person— idk how they’d do that tbh. And I know GB has gone on record to say that Cove wouldn’t be down for a poly relationship, but it still sucks to not have the option. I understand why poly relationships aren’t really a thing in games— a combination of monogamy being the norm irl and the difficulty in implementing the mechanic itself —but I hope one day those barriers can be broken down so it becomes an option 😭 And sorry if any of this comes across as me coming for you or something, that’s not my intention!!! I just had some thoughts I wanted to share. Overall I definitely agree that things like this could and should be handled better, and hopefully will be with future games with dateable NPCs— I’d love to explore that myself, and I wish I could with OL.

Mm, It's certainly not impossible to add in those features [the FH series, for example, is a single writer and they've added in poly options upon fan requests] but, I can understand not wanting to put the extra work in yeah, especially since the creator has been saying for a while now that "this is the last thing I'll do for olba" like, they seem to be really trying to move on to the next project, so I get it.

It's also why I don't expect to ever get any resolution for this😔but it still does make me very sad because I really do love this game so much, it's one of the few forms of media out there that make me feel comfortable/understood/safe with myself and the lack of a poly option really takes away from that feeling quite a bit.

My main gripe though is that there isn't any conversation at all about it. Like, that just takes away from the experience of the game.

Once you choose to date Baxter, everyone just goes 'Error 404' on you and seems to outright forget that you were basically setting up to and expected to marry Cove. That, to me, reads like a failing of writing.

Like, there should be some dialogue, y'know? Cove should be able to question your relationship, even in a round-about and self-concious/self-serving way, there should be some tension there where he has to tackle his very real feelings for you and you can possibly do the same for him but, there's just none. Like, if you flirt with him in Step 2, have that romantic tension carry over to Step 3 he shouldn't be able to just shrug off all his feelings instantly. Feelings don't work that way, bro😂It just bugs me that it's so inorganic and unable to be explored. Cove and MC have a lot of history, they should be able to talk about it in every aspect, y'know?

At least then it'd be easier to pretend there was something to bite into lol

I also find the whole Angelus dynamic extremely interesting. I do think there was something and there's too many layers. I would have loved to see more. I guess he shows up once in the OOC comics but I don't bother w that non-canon crap tbh. A blog posted a list of great fictions for them, and ur right about the fandom and stories for them being done so well.

Yeah, Angelus is so interesting to try and dissect. And I definitely think he had feelings for Buffy (I think that's what you mean about there being something there?). In fact, that's been confirmed by Joss... not that anyone really likes to talk about him anymore, for good reason. But you can see that well enough in just the way that Angelus acts.

I tried to read the Boom comics... Actually, I've read quite a few of them, but I've just gotten to a point where I can't anymore, unless something drastically changes. They just- in some ways, they don't seem to have that good a grasp on the characters (one example of this being the characters doing stuff they'd never do in canon: like the whole giving Willow Buffy's Slayer powers thing. And I know it's supposed to be AU versions of them, but even then). And while I'll admit that they have some really interesting ideas for stories, they seem to make everything up as they go along: the first Buffy and Angel AU probably being the best example of this (that even with that, is still probably my favorite thing that they've done, for various reasons). I feel like it started out really promising at first, but then it really seemed like they started throwing things at the wall just to see what would stick. And with a series like the Buffyverse, that was amazing at thinking everything through and having such good foreshadowing, that is just disappointing to say the least. They're also biased in some regards, it seems. Like, "Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer" is probably the best Boom has to offer. The characters feel mostly right (even though I do have some slight issues even there. For instance, I don't think that Buffy would be so mean to Thessaly?), and the story is definitely interesting and it actually seems like it was thought out beforehand and handled well. But the author clearly loves Spuffy (I'd say Boom as a whole does)--you can see it in all of the work she's done for Boom, etc.--and maybe doesn't like Angel, via the way she treated him and Bangel in that comic? It's unfortunate. (I'd also say Boom as a whole isn't that great with Angel in general, and there may be hints that they don't really like him. I know another YouTuber who was reviewing a number of their Buffyverse comics seemed to think this). And a professional really should be able to keep their biases to themselves.

Completely agree about the fandom writing some amazing Bangelus stories, that really explore the dynamic. Haha. :)

oh damn. I can't remember the title... Let me hear you? maybe? it was an Antonio Dawson x reader one that when I was reposting from the old blog I read it and cringed so hard it was literal garbage so i deleted it and didn't repost LOL. I also don't like the No Strings series but y'all love it so it remains on here LOL.

what's an idea you had for a fic that you never did anything with?

hmm... there's been a few, and tbh some of them *might* still get written. but the main one i'm still on the fence about is a Keane x reader, MEGA angsty. yn was working with Keane while she was in the WH when everything in s7 with her being forced out happens, but in this situation, keane DOES lose the presidency. yn goes to her the last night to give her contact info all "if you ever need anything, i'm more than ready to help. i put in my resignation..." keane's lost literally everything at this point, reaches out, they start as friends and obvi fall in love. keane finally feels like she has control of her life again when yn comes home from the dr with not great news and the requirement to run some more tests. she thinks she's in the clear at first, and then (another reason i didn't want to write it was the "too real" part of upcoming...) the pandemic hits so she skips a follow up appt, or they keep getting pushed for not being urgent, and when she finally does get back to the dr things are looking bleak. keane doesn't know how to handle it since she was once the most powerful person in the country and now she can't do anything to help the love of her life.

so...yeah... if i ever feel like making myself ugly sob for months at a time maybe i'll write it but like, its a bit too dark even for me LOL

the scene you worked the hardest on in any fic?

hmmm.... tbh ANY threesome takes a lot of work and figuring out logistics, do body's bend this way? would his hand be able to reach that part of her in that position? whose hands are where? kinda thing.

ANY of the debate scenes in Classified Affairs, even when i was lifting dialogue from the show.

And like, any courtroom scene, or ones that delve deep into case work and solving crimes. I tend to stay away from both in fics unless they're absolutely needed cause there's so much research to go into them. It's not a specific scene but the couple of chapters of SSS where they're taking down Gallagher I looked up so many different laws, the statute of limitations on multiple crimes, jail terms, how many years they would all land up to, what they're punishable by, etc

Myles is such a little shit tbh. Like imagine you're a genius, like a certified genius, with like a shit ton of life experience cause you've been through hell and back and you've seen death mutiple times and have been traumatized and saved the world multiple times and been close to death to many times to count have seen your mother go into insanity and your father die. So you're just done with life at this point, you're just a tired person. And you go to a university to give a lecture because you're a certified genius with three doctorates, and you're little brother who's like 15-18 years younger then you (depending on whether you think legally or physically) right, he's like 6 years old or something and he sneaks into the audience and starts like bullying you from the audience and insulting your scientific theory. And then you go to space and he sends you a message insulting you and your theory as your on way you to mars. Like. I would not be able to handle a brother like myles, artemis must be the most patient man on the planet to deal with him on a daily basis for years and never hurt him. Would've turned that rocket ship around to slap him. Maybe that's what his whole development lead to in the books. Maybe all the growth he went through was to help him not physically or emotionally destroy his little brother. I like to think if artemis had have to deal with myles when he was 12 he would've been verbally bullying him all the time while now he's just like tiredly nodding along like "yea ok."

Ok artemis smiling more when he thinks of his little brothers greeting him is adorable. Kind of don't like that they keep saying this. Like first, don't keep saying like "fowls are friends with fairies" when it's really only the one fowl and the like 3 fairies. Like artemis is the only fowl to ever befriend or help fairies. Also stop saying friends forever artemis fowl the second would never say that and it reminds me to much of the movie. Also it has not been long it's been a few years, not even a generation. Like I guess he's just trying to emphasize the points so his brothers don't like try to make enemies with these fairies but it's still bothering me. Also don't just trust every single fairy. Fairies have tried killing you. And you do have magical enemies so like

Alright artemis being a cute protective brother and myles being a little shit like "god we could only die. Stop being so emotional brother." Is the content I wanted. Why can't artemis be in the books? Like I just want some good sibling interactions. Also like artemis is around 10 years older then the twins. I know technically he's older because of the fifth book but he must feel around ten years older then them. He was 14 when he first met them and they were toddlers. Plus his parents seem to never be around, basically every time we see the twins they're home alone or with juliet or artemis or something. So he must've felt super protective of them, especially considering he went through so much trauma himself he would've wanted to prevent his little brothers from going through that. Like the few scenes we get with him and the twins in the artemis fowl series and this book is nothing but him being a very protective care giver. The very first scene with him and the twins, this is literal weeks after him meeting them, he's teaching them stuff and finger painting with them despite him hate doing messy or childish things, and he also programs myles toy monkey to have phrases and respond to myles. This is a little bit after he meets them meaning that he basically came home after 4 years of his life gone. He literally lost four years of his life he will never get back. Found out his parents immediately had children (I would've felt like they had replaced me.) And that he had two little brothers. And his immidete reaction was to make sure they were happy and to play with them and teach them new things and make toys for them. Like damn. Then in the 7th book he tells his mother that this will the last adventure and then he'll spend more time with the twins. Not "I'll spend more time on my education" not "more time with the family" more time with the TWINS, specifically his little brothers. Then in the 8th book despite usually being a serious person who tries to stay away from emotional reactions and stick to logic and reason, even when butler gets shot although he's very upset he forces himself to not cry and to immediately find a solution while in the 8th book he finds out his little brothers are in trouble, and immediately takes off for the house despite knowing he's running into danger and that there's probably safer ways to solve this if he stopped to think. Then he abandons all logic when faced with his brothers being possesed and even forgets the problem in front of him, of there being basically zombies in his house, because he's to focused on myles holding a sharp object and hurting himself. We then find out he got a customized fairy chair specifically made for his little brother and also knows his brothers favorite drink and exactly how to make it and serves it to him to comfort him from the recent possession. Then in this book we find out he made the NANNI system for his brothers to keep them safe, connected it to myle's glasses, gave him a laser but not a strong one because he was scared of his little brother hurting himself or others by accident, had a bonding moment with his little brother working on the NANNI system with him, and told them bed time stories of his adventures. Like it's adorable. Especially when you see someone so professional and serious and formal like artemis acting like this
