im reading all my old hwu fanfics oh god.. like i was a decent writer but some of the stuff i wrote smh......... and like.. the ships. or one in particular. had to write for the most popular ship if i wanted anyone to read anything i wrote but please know that i HATED it
#if you know then you know#i didnt write much multi-chapter fic (mostly bc i like to plan things too much in advance) but that was the longest fanfic i wrote#idk where i ever got up to with posting it but the doc on my computer is 26k words#13 chapters + 1 paragraph of chapter 14#what a waste of my life lmao. like yeah im glad i wrote a lot for a few years there. definitely a good skill and some good practice#but yeesh#im sitting here reading it and it's from the LI's perspective (which i think was a great choice on my part lbr)#and im just like..........wtf are you doing you gross irresponsible adult man. like yeah danny's VERY stupid here but you're Much Worse#im also realising that danny is absolutely the precursor to my main hawke now. VERY similar personalities#personal#when i say i hated it.. it was fun to write because i enjoyed writing and i liked interpreting the existing dialogue we had in the quests#and turning it into an actual descriptive story. and i was good at it. i was good at writing characters and their feelings#i Really enjoyed writing that character. it just sucked that the ship was horrible and i felt like i had to pretend it wasnt#dethan was the actual good ship but - for all the talk i saw - people didnt actually read it#even the one fic i wrote with chris did waaay better (but tbf that's probably one of the best fics i ever wrote; the post-proposal one)#anyway. if im cringing while reading my old stuff it's not because it's badly written#it's because the way the characters behave already made me cringe when i wrote it lmao

So technically, buddhist monks are not supposed to marry or have romantic or sexual relationships. Normally, the fact Wukong has a mate and is traveling with him while he is acting as a pilgrim under the tutelage of a buddhist monk would automatically disqualify him from enlightenment and break his oaths...
Luckily for him, Macaque is a master at loopholes, and Wukong never actually swore to become Buddhist, merely that he'd protect and learn from one. It also helps that his Master fully supported the relationship, Tripitaka had never thought he'd see his mot troubling pilgrim so happy and affectionate even after all those years and meeting his family on FFM
Tbf the Gautama Buddha was married (Yaśodharā) and had son (Rahula). He straight up abandoned them shortly after his son was born in his quest for enlightenment. His wife became a female arhat but never forgave him for abandoning her and their child.
Wukong having his Egg, and having a partner who abandoned him, accidentally makes him a mirror to the Buddha's wife. Except unlike the Enlightened One; Macaque came back and stayed.
Wukong technically not promising to be a monk is hilarious to me, since while he might not be a "true" buddha - he'd be considered a Bodhisattva/Demi-God like dear mama Guanyin. The "Victorious Fighting Bodhisattva" if you will.
Also him, Bajie, Wujing, and Ao Lie frequently break Buddhist no-nos throughout the book. There's a scene during the Dr Sun Wukong chapter where the Tripitaka straight up tells his diciples to get drunk in his place.
Also dont tell me that Bajie wouldn't put up a fight over the rules about not eating onions or garlic (apparently monks arent allowed cus it "produces hormones" aka makes you flirty). He'd pout harder over onions more than meat.
Macaque would straight up refuse any buddhist titles if offered at the end of the Journey. Get that out of his face. He's just Macaque. He learned his lesson back when he tried calling himself "Great Sage Informing Wind". I love the thought of him pulling out reciepts in case anyone tries arguing that Wukong is breaking buddhist vows.
Tripitaka is a poor celibate monk/divine-bug dealing with a pair of diciples in permanent honeymoon-mode for the next 14-17 years. And he thought dealing with Bajie's lustful nature was bad enough, now he has to deal with the Pig's drunken, envious wails for his own spouse to come smooch him.
But the Great Monk ultimately approves of Wukong's relationship with Macaque. Not only because it keeps the monkey calm and gives him and extra bodyguard, but because Wukong is genuinely happy with his mate. The Wukong of now - cuddling and feeding his mate fruits - is a far cry from the tiger-crushing beast that greated Tripitaka at the mountain.
Now if Tripitaka could find a polite way of telling the monkeys to please stop kissing while the monk tries to meditate?

Ran some numbers I find interesting. I made that comment like a month ago about how my average AU is like 50-60k but i was wondering what the actual numbers were because my projects chart doesn't track small fics, anything that is a one-shot or under 10k just gets thrown into the "Global Count" category, so I decided to make a table to find the real number and also some other stuff. Tbf, when I adjust this for just the fics I had written up until when I said that, it's an average of 49,582 (50k) across all of my AUs (all AUs, even freak occurence, but AUs only). Sapphic September/Sheratober/AU-ctober introduced a lot of shorter AUs to the pool.
My preferred method for writing, especially anything long, is alternating POV by scene (usually between Catra and Adora, but occasionally with other characters thrown in the mix), which immediately becomes obvious looking at the numbers, but I like to use singular POVs for shorter fics often. I kind of want to know the trends for Outside of the War too but that's So Much Work. For this comparison, I already had the projects chart I could copy-paste and just add the short ones to, but for OotW I would have to manually enter all 51 fics (excluding freak occurrence, which is included here) and I super don't want to do that right now, so we'll see! Anyway
Like I said above, I prefer singular POVs for shorter stories, and that's immediately obvious from the numbers, but I find the difference in Catra's and Adora's averages interesting. That's mostly because, while Adora has more "middle" length (20-40kish) fics in her corner, Catra has A Strange Disease Like Me, As Many Lives As It Takes, and Slipstream all throwing her a heavy weight from all the shorter one shots. The only other fic Catra has that even cracks five figures is The Girl in the Front Row, which is just barely sneaking in at 10k. Adora passes 10k for 7(!) of her fics, but those fics all skew a lot shorter than Catra's big weights. Catra's POV is a lot of fun, okay, and because she's so emotional honestly she can seem a bit "random" if you don't have insight into her irrationality via her POV.
Also the extreme difference in the average of "alternating random" versus every other is so funny to me, but that category is made up entirely by Superzero, Children of the Crystal, Roses & Thorns, and By the Sea, the shortest of which is 53k and the longest of which is 125k, and when half the category cracks six figures, you end up with a big average. Children of the Crystal of course is actually made up of a bunch of smaller fics, and breaking it up into its constituent parts would have been more accurate from a POV average perspective (since most CotC fics alternate by POV, but some alternate by chapter or are purely one perspective), but that's also 14 more fics for me to manually average and I don't consider different entries in a series to be "separate" AUs, they're all part of the same story, so I want Children of the Crystal, OTOS/and they were roommates, the Greys/Waiting for my Spaceship to Come Back for Me, etc all as one thing for the purpose of word count averages. Especially because for most series, I stick with an alternating POV in every fic, Children of the Crystal is more of an outlier in that regard.
Anyway these numbers don't serve a purpose but I do find them interesting and I hope someone else does too lol

P.2 HH Lucifer-centric AU 15/?
STORY 1, PART 1, PART 2, PART 3, PART 4, PART 5, PART 6, PART 7, PART 8, PART 9, PART 10, PART 11, PART 12, PART 13, PART 14, PART 14.5, PART 16, PART 17, PART 18, PART 19, PART 20, PART 21, PART 22, PART 23, PART 24, PART 25, PART 26
I read a fic once saying that since Adam and Lilith were created at the same time from the same light (?? or something) that they were more siblings than lovers.
This isn't incest okay! I just think that it's a great concept. They aren't related directly but that's what they knew each other as before Heaven told them their roles.
Lilith and Adam never did anything sexual too. The sibling mentality stuck with Lilith more and Adam was more focused on control than anything else.
I know it's confusing but I'm wording it better in my head lkjaslkdjklas
This is a bit long tho but tbf this chapter is long overdue.
-----------------------------------------------
Lilith doesn't regret anything.
Getting cast out to Heaven into a literal hellhole was a small price to pay for not being Adam's possession for all of eternity.
Adam was just like her from the start; innocent and curious. But then those angels put the idea of a wife, of a higher standing, in his head and it changed him completely.
Not that Adam was forced into doing what he had done. He was just as responsible for his choices as much as the angels.
But they were brother and sister first before they were made husband and wife. They were supposed to discover everything together. They were content. They were-
They were supposed to be equals.
She's angry at the angels for trying to control their lives and she's angry at Adam for letting it happen.
So when she met Lucifer, or Samael back then, she made her very first choice.
Lucifer was as beautiful as the other angels foretold. The others who were assigned to them before cannot even compare to his etherealness. His glow, his smile, his voice, his kindness, his everything is what she imagined angels were supposed to be.
But he was also a dreamer; an innocent but naive dreamer.
.
.
She can use him.
Now, she never intended to use Lucifer the way she did. The first woman saw him as a friend the moment he found her crying after another argument with Adam and comforted her with ducks and magic and his bubbly personality.
In fact, he inspired her to be a dreamer too. And oh, how long did she dream of freedom and independence.
So when it became apparent to Lilith that no matter how much she complains, Heaven wasn't going to listen, the fear of being stuck with this version of Adam all her life made her desperate.
Desperate enough to use her only friend as a means to an end.
Maybe for a while she did fell in love with Lucifer, but love always did come second to her. Like how her love for Adam came second to her love of being alive. How her love of the Garden came second to her love of freedom. And now her love of Lucifer coming in second to her love of independence.
In the near future, her love of Charlie came second too to her love of power.
After Eve and then Heaven's verdict, she's finally tasting the freedom she'd yearned for her entire life. Her heart brims with both euphoria and anguish as her dream comes true, albeit in the form of a hellish pit. She can work with that. She'll make it work.
She only wishes she hadn't dragged Lucifer down with her.
Maybe that's why she just let him wallow for years after the Fall. She understood. While she loved Eden, her life was too short and too miserable to form a bond with it. But Lucifer was older than her and lived far longer in Heaven. Being cast out by those he once called family from the only home he knew, Lilith would be heartbroken too.
So she let him cry without judgement. It's the least she could do. She also tried to be there for him but she can only understand so much before she can't anymore.
And when the first sinner souls arrived, she had to take up that duty. Making them King and Queen seemed only fitting for without them, none of this would even come to exist.
Lilith busied herself with expanding their kingdom plus Lucifer had the Sins to distract him.
It didn't take long for the other Rings to form, essentially spawning from the maturity of the Sins.
She wanted to rule those too but she hadn't realized that the curse of being a sinner applied to her as well, preventing her from leaving the Pride Ring.
So there wasn't really a choice but to have the Sins rule them. There's also the fact that they prefer Lucifer over her so controlling the other Rings was already out of her hands before she could even touch it.
The teacup in her hands break.
Right. She's in a secluded area in Heaven. In a sad excuse of a hut because of an even sadder excuse of a deal with Adam.
The door opens but she doesn't turn to see who it is. She doesn't need to. There's only 2 people who know she's here and one of them is dead.
Lute: Why are you still here? Didn't I tell you to go down there and sort out that little brat of yours?
Lilith had to laugh.
Lilith: I don't know why you think you can order me around.
Lute: Like I said, Adam is dead and I'm in charge now. I gave you two choices, help me here in Heaven or help me enact revenge for Adam.
Lilith: You mean this sorry excuse of a rebellion of yours? Do you really think a low ranking angel can claim even an once of victory? Heaven's Sword will smite you like a bug.
Lute: There's talk amongst the council that my little coup have the Archangel shaking in their boots. Probably too afraid of what this might entail given what happened in the first one. I guess your ex-husband was useful for something.
Lilith throws the broken shards at the other in anger.
Lute: So cooperate.
Lute moves her remaining hand arm and summons chain around Lilith's hand into existence. She tugs it forcefully but the first woman stands her ground, refusing to even move an inch.
Lilth: Or what? You'll tell my family in hell? Have you forgotten that one condition of this deal is that none of us can tell another existing soul about our involvement with each other? All you have is an empty threat. So. No.
Lute: No?
Lilith: My end of the deal is that I get to stay here in Heaven, out of your little army's way.
Lute: I'll break this deal if I have to. And once they know what you've done, you'll never belong anywhere ever again.
Lilith stalks closer to the angel until their faces are so close. Lilith wants nothing more than to punch the other's face like she deserves.
Lilith: I'm the Queen of Hell. Losing the respect of my family will not make me lose the respect of my people.
Lute had the audacity to laugh at her face.
Lute: See? That is the thing with you, Lilith. You think everybody still respects you when actually everybody hates you. You didn't just leave your husband and child, you left all of them.
Lilith: Did you forget that you were the ones who approached me begging for this deal? It was your and your dead boyfriend's idea for me to leave and pretend to not give a shit about my family and my people? To act like the vile creatures you are.
Lute: Your highness, it's not pretend! You're as vile as we come. You think your shit don't stink, you think the rest of us are dumb and beneath you.
The chain tightens just a bit around Lilith's wrist.
Lute: We hated your demons' guts but here's what you don't comprehend; at least we had the guts to not pretend to be their ally!
Tense silence fills the room but Lilith can't find it in herself to rebuke the statement.
Lute: So be a good woman and follow orders.
So yeah, Lilith doesn't regret anything.
Except for the parts that she does.

Throwing this ask over for if you ever want to ramble about Bendy ✨/nf (we are getting fed lately, 3 more games??? A movie??? Ink demon at a rave??? What???)
BENDY RAMBLE PERMISSION? OH HECK YEA!!
We are SO getting fed! I can't wait for what the games have in store for us. With The Cage supposed to release some time this year ANS THE MOVIE??? OH DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THAT!
I love the Bendy series to bits. Like actually
I've been keeping up with it since chapter 3 of BATIM- haven't read any of the books sadly but that can be excused right???
ANYWAY
The Cage is supposed to be a look behind the scenes at what happened on the other side of things while Audrey was busy explaining the concept of personal space to Wilson, if I remembee right? Also supposed to be darker and gorrier SUPER EXCITED FOR THAT
Then... in Secrets of the Machine we get teasers for B3ndy and Bendy Silent Town...
I hope B3ndy's gonna pick up on where BATDR left off, Gent taking away the Ink Machine to GOD KNOWS WHERE??? With Bendy now being out in the real world... it begs the question of who the role of big bad and smiling (traumatized, very much traumatized) will fall on... As for who we may play as.... maybe it could be this Riley Wells (hope I got the surname right) character we found out about in Secrets of the Machine? They ended up being a GENT employee so it's not completely out the question? They were employed at Joey Drew Studios before but- got fired because their ideas were too grotesque and dark for Joey's liking (EXCUSE THEM for having trauma you entrepreneur a-hole).
As for Bendy Silent Town... I feel like that game may be a look at mayhaps the genre of Bendy cartoons Riley had scripted? As I said, their ideas were dark. And what is Silent Town? A complete turn to the left at what Bendy games are. Unsure if the hand in the teaser image is Bendy's but- the char has a revolver named Alice FJFJ does that say anything? I dunno! Fjfjfj Getting to shoot cartoon bad guys in a cartoon tho? Aw heck yea! I suck at shooters but I'm willing to try my hand at one if it's Bendy
This is getting long lmfao
AH I haven't realized, but Secrets of the Machine came out on 4/14 (cuz- not american, use a different date format heh) which is the last loop that took place before Wilson or Audrey right? Some significance there
Oml I'm gonna fall into rambling about Bendy and the Ink Demon aren't I?
When you break all the cutouts in Secrets of the Machine, you get instakilled by the Ink Demon. Which. Deserved. I ended up doing that a lot cuz I didn't KNOW what I was supposed to do??? And destroying the cutouts was the quickest way out nfjfjc sorry Benders I promise it wasn't personal.
Anywho- yea it's been over a year YET I'M STILL NOT OVER HOW THE INK DEMON LITERALLY HAD BEEN TORTURED BY THE KEEPERS??? Like- YOU CAN'T JUST THROW THAT AT ME AND NOT EXPECT ME TO WEEP LIKE A BABY- My man's gone through literal hell even before he's been carelessly thrown into the machine "because he was imperfect" my ass, I bet the worst he ever did while in the Real world was walk around and be curious about everything while the only thing decisively threatening about him was his appearance... WHICH ALSO he had nothing to do with??? That's all on Joey and GENT for fucking up and only looking at the outside and not the inside. Is it obvious how much I need this guy to have a happy life?? He has a chance for that with Audrey now which I'm honestly so damn glad for nfnfnc Poor guy had been forced to follow a predetermined script where he was cast as the villain... tbf.. wouldn't anyone end up embracing that role when they've had to go through it for hundreds of loops?? I'd grow tired of trying to change anything as well.
Can... can you imagine? A little scene with Audrey and Bendy in B3ndy where they're just hanging out with eachother in Audrey's apartment.... PLEASE
Ah this got long hehe nfnfjfb
ALSO still not over Henry. My favorite father figure. Pls be a dad to them I beg
I STILL DUNNO WHAT THE RAVE IS ABT 😭😭 Haven't seen anything abt it YET- BUT AYYYYY
AND OML YEA THE MOVIE PLEASE GIB SOME BEFORE THE INK WORLD SNIPPETS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE?? Could you imagine? Just- getting to see how the studio was before it all went to hell??? I- GETTING TO SEE THE PROGRESS ON THE INK MACHINE??? MAYBE EVEN BENDY'S CREATION????? And and oml SAMMY before he went "My Lord, My Saviour, coocoo in the head" THE VAST WORLD OF POSSIBILITIES

Hi!
Sooooo, I was wallowing in self pity because there was no HWFG (no pressure to write or update! I just can’t be normal about that story) so I went to check your ao3 and was surprised to see that you’re a fellow James Norrington truther! It inspired me to rewatch the first two pirates of the Caribbean movies and I kinda fell into the norrington rabbit hole again.
That made me read fallen through time and I honestly became OBSESSED so when I was done with the chapters you posted for that story I immediately turned to catch the wind and,,,,,,, [insert unhinged meme about ripping out guts]. I started reading it on Saturday and I couldn’t put it down so I read through two nights and am now tired as fuck, sitting at work, trying to appear busy while still reading your story. What have you done to me!!! I just read the wedding night chapter (I’m going insane, that had no business being so hot???) and honestly, that was so rewarding? Very well written smut aside, the slow burn was soooo good and there were moments where I had actual tears in my eyes??? Theo’s pain when she overheard Elizabeth accepting James‘ proposal? AH!!!! I adore their relationship. The banter, the soft moments, their conflict, their quiet conversations (though I must say I maybe even like it more in fallen through time? He’s just so mean, suspicious and stupid at times in that one, I live for that). I feel like theyre the definition of „she fell first, he fell harder“ and at one point i was really reminded of something I’ve read elsewhere… it was something like „you’re looking at me with purpose“ and that’s just so spot on for James? He’s so devoted to her it makes my heart melt.
On that note, it’s so impressive how much research you’ve done?! And how much thought you’ve put into everything? It’s not easy to write for that time period (I say as a person with two degrees in history lol), especially when it comes to balancing the cultural differences between norrington and Theo? That made everything even more fun to read.
And it’s so impressive how you manage to have this story follow the events of the movies but for it to never become boring or repetitive? You manage to capture the characters we all know and love so well while also making them your own. Your James, of course, is spot on, but also Elizabeth and will? And in all honesty, I maybe like your jack sparrow more than the canon one. He serves as comic relief so much that you sometimes forget he’s a seasoned pirate and much more intelligent, provident and even dangerous than one might think. He feels much more human in your story in my opinion. And that moment where he returns to Tortuga and confronts Theo about the cannibals? I laughed so loud that my bf woke up lol
Okay so I’ll stop rambling now, I just wanted to drop by to tell you how much I love your work and how glad I am that I checked out your norrington/theo stuff. Theo is amazing and I love them both so much. My boss just left the building and I sure will spend the rest of my time at work today reading, they don’t pay me enough anyway. I so hope that her attempt at changing James’ fate will work out and I’m very anxious but also excited to find out where this all goes!
Sending love and appreciation from Germany!
I know I'm on a tumblr break but this is too nice and it has me crying too much to leave it to gather dust in my inbox 🫠🫠🫠
Thank you so so so so SO much!!!
Honestly Catch the Wind will always have a special place in my heart (the people who have sat and watched me continue to talk about it ~14 months after it was finished are like "we know, babe") because I wrote it like, being somewhat fond of Norrington but mostly to get the idea for a Boromir fic out of my system, and instead I ended up sick over Norrington and still writing the Boromir fic anyway. Buuut I mean I got my favourite project so far out of it so I can't complain, I just laugh at how I played myself. Tbf tho, it was a great thing because POTC was a great stepping stone towards even more intimidating LOTR territory!
I'm so glad the smut was decent, too! That was the first story I've ever written it for and I was so nervous about it 💀 I do completely agree with your view on Theo and James as a couple though - the falling first/harder, and the "you're looking at me with purpose" both. I just don't think he'd ever be the type to get complacent. He's not a man who lays on the charm to win the girl, before thinking "what's the point in continuing to try?" once he "has" her. I see him as being such a ride or die, insanely loyal, "that is my WIFE", Gomez Addams coded guy, I love him for it. Those sitcom coded jokes where a guy hates his wife the second he marries her would be the very opposite of his kind of thing. That's why I had so much fun giving him that back in Theo, considering Elizabeth doesn't return his feelings in the movies.
And I mean, I don't think he's owed that from her and I don't think less of her for not returning those feelings, she can't help it (although I do raise my eyebrows at anybody who'd choose Will over The Noz, but people are allowed to be wrong ig), and I think if anything it'd be worse if she did marry him in the end without having that same level of feeling, but it was just so nice to give him someone as dedicated to him as he was to her in Theodora 🥹 I also think Boromir has a lot of that in him, so I'm very excited about his future with Sybil.
I'm also so thrilled to hear the research went appreciated - a lot of it was very fun, like if I hadn't done an Eng Lit/Creative Writing degree, I would've gone into history (I actually almost did do a second degree in history but the funding didn't work out, so I stick to just reading a lot, which I'm cool with), and like most of it was fun, but there were times when I was googling a) the origin of the coffee table, and b) 18th century equivalents of a coffee table/accent table at 4am for the sake of one throwaway line where I did wonder about my path in life. I swear, I deep-dived into it in the notes usually because I at least wanted to make it clear when I had done my research vs when I was knowingly deviating (a few unknowing mistakes did slip through but I think how much research otherwise went into it kind of makes people more willing to overlook a mistake here and there?) but also because it meant I could get more out of said research binges than just one unnoticeable line in a random paragraph 🤡
And JACK. God. I could write a dissertation on Jack. What they do to his character in movies 4/5 are 90% of the reason I don't like them and have only seen them once each. The other 10% is that uhhh they're just crap. Like it's so, so clear in the first three - mainly because of JD's fab acting - that the eccentric thing masks a lot of intelligence and cunning. He'll do his whole "weirdo" shtick, and I don't even think it's entirely an act, I think he is truly eccentric to an extent, but there'll just be these really brief moments where there's just a gleam in his eye, or he'll be suddenly serious for 0.5 seconds and you see what's going on behind the mask, and you realise it is a mask. Whereas in 4/5 it turns into a thing of "idiot who bumbles around and finds his way by sheer luck", which was never what he was in the trilogy.
I also think his crew's reaction to him shows that he is more than willing to be a hardass captain when it comes to it - the moment off of the top of my head is when Cotton's parrot goes "walk the plank" in movie two and his gun is immediately out and he's not happy and they all kinda startle a bit. But even without glimpses like that, like, they're pirates. If he was weak, and he wasn't willing to be stern and not take shit, they wouldn't follow him, and he wouldn't be half as infamous as he is. They know he's odd, but it's clear they respect him, so he must have earned that respect.
He was the one I was most scared of having to write going into this thing (along with Barbossa and Beckett), because he's so easy to get wrong. I'm always so, so thrilled when I hear I did him justice!
Okay, I have written you an entire dissertation here, so I'll stop now and just say again THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH!!!! 💜💜💜 I've read this like ten times since I first received it, it had me grinning like an idiot every single time, I'm so grateful -- and I hope you like what I have in store for HWFG! The wait shouldn't be tooo long, I'm taking April off of posting but not writing, so ideally I'll have something to post in the very beginning of May!
(and I'll reply to your other ask in a bit, I just wanted to make it clear I wasn't ignoring this!!)

Glenwood
Are you ready Castle? I certainly am. Good luck with this one you will need it. Here is the promised/announced essay of questions from me (I will send it in chapters):
[1] Seers/Oracles:
1. In the first Beth audio (you didn’t think we would start that far back did you) Beth mentioned and I quote “figured from the few interviews I’ve seen that they’re some of the most pretentious”. I have a few questions to that statement. What kind of interviews? Are Seers like famous or some other shit? Or maybe interviews with criminals? I could see Seers having a serial killer history tbf.
2. Sticking to the beginning of the Glenwood series, what are different stereotypes about magic wielders? I’m especially interested in Vampires and Seers but I’m happy to hear more of you are willing to write all of this.
3. How rare is the Seer magic type? Same question for Oracles. (How many Seers are there?)
4. We know that Seers see into the future. Oracles can see into the future as well as the past. Is there a magic wielder who can only see into the past?
5. Still going with the Seer questions. I imagine going out in public must be extremely stressful. Seers can probably suppress the visions for a certain amount of time but wouldn’t it hurt? Or maybe even have some consequences later on in the day?
6. What are the usual consequences of holding a vision for too long? Nausea? Fever? Nosebleed?
7. Question above but the most extreme ravages of seeing visions.
8. How long can a Seer hold their vision before it becomes too much?
9. Maybe not a question but more of a statement. Beautiful got thrown against the wall by a werewolf. Did that not hurt? Do Seers have some enhanced durability or some shit? In other words, do Seers have some other special qualities that just haven’t been mentioned yet? (Example: enhanced strength, hearing, etc.)
10. How far back can a vision go? I’m gonna try to word it as logically as I can. When Seers have visions on past events, does the distance from their timeline affect the Seer? Would it take more energy?
11. Get Beautiful some therapy please. Seeing death is not a healthy everyday routine.
12. What can you tell us about Beautiful’s childhood?
13. For a Seer to be born does one of the parents need to be one?
14. Okay this one has been bothering me for a while. How do you learn Seer magic? Is there a book about it? How do you just start having visions? Can you even learn it?
If any of the questions have been answered before or you prefer not to answer any of these you are free to skip there is no pressure. I’m just completing Beautiful’s backstory.
I think that’s all for the Seers questions. I’ve been waiting for you to come back on tumblr and then send it all :) Drink some water and have a great day <3
So I see we're just having me write down every little detail of my lore- I appreciate your dedication XD Okidoki, let's so this!
1- Seers are often featured in interviews after majors events like natural disasters if a vision they had was submitted to SIGHT and helped prepare for said event. Or featured on podcasts as guests because people always want to know about the kind who can see into the future.
2- There are plenty of stereotypes that Seers have a power complex because technically they have to ability to see any potential future and get a lot of clout for themselves. They're seen as know-it-alls and braggers, even if most just keep to themselves. Obviously, Fire Elementals are seen as short tempered, Earth Elementals are seen as less intelligent because how smart can a person who moves dirt be?Water Elementals have a hard time being seen as someone who's reliable and shifters often are assumed to be aggressive. When it comes to Vampires, most people assume that all vampires are rich oligarchs who pray on the weak. There's the stereotype that if you get close to a vampire, they can't help but bite you.
3- Honestly, someone tried running the same kind of numbers for blood mages and I got confused by the numbers myself XD Because this story is s fluid as we progress through it, I'm not going to include any rock solid statistics for my own sanity. Generally, Seers make up less than 5% of the magical population, and Oracles make up less than an eighth of that demographic.
4- Nope, ever Seer can see into the future.
5- Seers can suppress their visions when they're in public, it takes a bit of effort but it doesn't hurt them at first.
6- Consequences include headache, nausea, dizziness, lack of focus, and extreme fatigue.
7- The worst consequences in the most extreme circumstances would be fainting, seizures, and even hallucinations where the vision starts to spill through into their reality.
8- They can hold back visions for a few hours, even up to a few days before they start to feel the consequences.
9- Seer's don't have any advanced strength, Beth's just good at pulling her punches, even on potential intruders.
10- Visions of the past can go back years, it all depends on how hard the Oracle pushes to look back.
11- They all need a good therapy session, especially Beautiful
12- Since Beautiful is a listener character, that's up for interpretation!
13- You can't learn to be a Seer. There are books on how to manage visions and tell a vision from dreams or fantasies, all of which are provided by SIGHT.
Hope that answered your Seer questions, somewhat! Looking forward to what you've got next :)

20 questions for fic writers
Tagged by @luthien-under-bough, thank you! I love talking about fics and the process of how I write them, so this was fun to put together :)
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
28
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
459,900
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Now exclusively House of the Dragon, specifically Daemyra
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
High Hopes
Let's Ignite Under the Ember Skies
You're Ripped at Every Edge (But You're a Masterpiece)
If I Could, I'd Get You the Moon
The Dominoes Cascaded in a Line
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, I try to always respond, even if the comment is to an older fic. Sometimes I'm overwhelmed or don't even know what to say when someone's being way too kind to me lol, but I always want to let people know I see them and appreciate them so much.
The only time I don't... is when I see someone's binging my whole fic, so then I only respond to the last comment, once they're all caught up.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
This is easy, as I only have one fic without a happy ending - All and Then Most of You, Some and Now None of You. I love daemyra too much to not give them HEA as much as possible
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
This is hard to pick... Because all of my fics, apart from that one, end teeth rootingly sweet 😂 Perhaps Dominoes. Or perhaps fighter!au, which you guys haven't read yet but it's very fucking happy!
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Sometimes. Though it is much much better now that I disabled anon asks.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do! What kind I write... Hmm, tbf I think I write pretty vanilla stuff, even if I do try to explore some kinks here and there when it fits the story and the characters. I guess my kind is focusing on the feelings most of the time, and the emotional connection.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I don't, or at least I haven't yet. We'll see if muse ever strikes this way!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of, so hopefully not
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
A few times in a different fandom
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, not yet, but I'm definitely open to the idea. I definitely wrote a bunch of stuff based on my fandom friends' crazy ideas and prompts with their help, so that's halfway there, I guess
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
No couple had ever taken over my life and thoughts the way Daemyra did, so, the answer is clear!
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Soulmates AU? I was once so excited for it, wrote a bunch of notes and even the first two chapters, but now I'm kinda... not feeling it :(
16. What are your writing strengths?
I spent the longest on this question. I think it's the emotions I try to convey in my fics, good or bad.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Now this is much easier. Plot! Intrigue! If you guys haven't noticed yet lol, I write fics heavily focused on romance only, and the development of Daemyra's relationship, because I just can't pull off anything more than that.
I'll probably never write a fic where people will wonder what'll happen next, what that and this means, what this person's motivations are... Because I'm unfortunately not wired that way. But I learned to accept that, and I have fun writing my silly romances with no real plot <3
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've done it myself a few times and I like to see it in other fics, too. Especially in HV it's delicious to see in the canon-verse. Though I always struggle with how to write the translation - right next to it, in cursive, in brackets, in the final notes?? That's always a head scratcher
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Eh, probably Twilight? I don't remember writing anything before that, so must be it
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Probably still High Hopes, even after all this time 🤍
This was fun! I'm tagging some of my writer friends if they wanna join and haven't yet, @ar-feyniel, @eschercaine, @calenlily, @fiora-miriel and anyone else who wants to! :)

On chapter 14 yelena said she wasn’t upset Kane couldn’t have children because she wasn’t the motherly type anyway, did they ever talked about it after? like, for a while I thought they would end up adopting Gwen (or another kid)
Hi! I'm sure they did. But I would like to draw your attention to the conversation Kane and Yelena had when talking about Sonya at the end of the story.
Spoiler warning for what's under the cut for anyone who hasn't finished What You Owe.
When Kane offers Yelena the option of letting Sonya stay with them, Yelena says that it's a sweet thought but that Kane would never be comfortable in his own home if someone else was around. He could never be Kate with Sonya in the house, because they probably would not tell her. Not until Kate felt comfortable enough around her to share it (and Yelena would never take that choice from her wife).
So, while I think the idea of Gwen being taken in by them is very, very sweet, it's not something I see realistically happening. Unless Gwen was visiting and ended up exploring the house and caught Kane in the middle of changing or something. Then, maybe, because they would be forced to explain (Gwen would, ofc, understand, because she loves them and trusts them). But that probably doesn't happen in every universe.
I mainly included Gwen as a way to show the cycle of abuse breaking because of what Kane and Yelena did throughout the story. And to show how much Yelena herself has changed, not because I wanted people to assume that they'd adopt her. But tbf I did fall in love with the idea of them taking care of Gwen a little bit, too. 😅💚💜

hi, i'm late for the wip thing (grr busy, unfortunately) but can u tell about the 11 to 20, please? 🥹
hooooo boy you sure you wanna open that can of worms, deary 👀
i mean, I’m totally sharing just…it’s gonna take some time 😅
*coughs* sO
11. Yassifying Chick Flicks: Neither the First Nor the Last
happy pride 💅
As the title says, nothing about this story is hetero it is all homo. it’s a trope subversion on le old teen high school Chick Flicks. literally, the character’s initials tells you what their roles are (MC = main character, LI =love interest, RH = red herring, TBF = toxic best friend)
Can be interpreted as a character study on teen girls and internalized misogyny tho and i fully intend to expand on it.
12. Sunglasses Quiz
ok so this is just a cute little story of these two girlfriends who are trying to buy sunglasses, and you know how some have it where you take a quiz?
yeah, so these girlies are trying to take the quiz and end up getting……ahem, distracted 👀
anyway, the little description i write for this was “i was feeling sappy so i wrote some sappy queer love” so 🏳️‍🌈 happy pride🏳️‍🌈
“As a renowned researcher yourself,” Laura exclaimed, ignoring Pen’s comment, “it is shameful”— Pen rolled her eyes— “you, who have published many scholarly works into the world, should know better!”
Pen would have definitely shoved her girlfriend. She definitely would have if it were not for that sweet, “innocent” smile on Laura’s face. That’s what she tells herself anyway.
13. Witch boy
Repeating myself -> “LISTEN: i know this one also complete when you go to Ao3, but that's just because the 3rd part is being fucking slOW, so i said "fuck it ends nice at ch2 anyway," but i do want to add more. but yeah, to summarize: fic was inspired by a Halloween fanart i saw and i just ran with it.”
basically, it’s a modern au of bbc’s merlin but there seems to be magic leaking into “our” world every Halloween. and our lovely band of misfits (Merlin, Arthur, Gwen, Morgana, Lancelot, Gwaine, Elyan, Percival, and Leon) have taken it upon themselves to put a stop to it every Halloween. Also, slow burn romance between Merlin and Arthur bc i can never help myself. the 3rd installment is still in the works T^T but I do want to complete this one day. but yeah, here’s a snippet:
14:27 HighPriestessofthemStilletos: ARTHUR ANSWER YOUR FUCKING PHONE L'Oréal Hair: oop arthur’s in trouble!!!HoodieReigns: oh good so he’s not just doing this to me AngelQueen: He didn't even pick-up when you called? HighPriestessofthemStilletos: @HighKing_Wart I WILL BLOW UP YOUR PHONE HighPriestessofthemStilletos: DON’T TEST ME HoodieReigns: it seems he did not, in fact, pick-up when she called gwen
14. Emrys Shrine
this one is essentially a continuation of the Shrine of Emrys fic I wrote months ago but it is still in the works. Here we have Percival’s pov of the aftermath of the fic
Percival often wondered if Merlin was like him. Someone who had lived in the Druid camps as a child, but then he heard Arthur tell the tale of Merlin’s home Ealdor and his kind-hearted mother. He even met her sometime after Arthur had secured his throne from Morgana once again, and she had explained how the village has been her home since birth, how she spent her days living in it, how she had raised her darling boy in this place before he left for Camelot.
15. Lucky’s Timeline @ Beacon Hills
SUPER, SUper self indulgent fic where i insert my OCs, Lucy and Nick, into the teen wolf universe and how they interact with it. for example:
“But this is Coach’s car,” McCall said with a frown. “Is it?” Nick replied nonchalantly as he twirled the keys in his free hand, unlocking the car doors.
16. THE everchanging STORYLINE
ahaha…. so i named it that bc i’ve been writing this one for 2 years and almost every month i would change the plot. which meant i needed to reorganize the chapter list and where which scene went 🙄 (i am my own bane) this still happens and it’s been 3 years now T^T
anyway, this wip is my dc/batfam wip, aka the origins of Lucy and Nick lol. plot’s a nonchronological mystery with switching pics to outsider, minor characters, and Nick
17. Lucy Elliot: She Be Descending
literally just the previous but if Lucy was adopted by an abusive douchebag (douchebag being Thomas Elliot) and if she had a corruption arc (ngl i like corruption arc Lucy more she’s unhinged). assassin instead of vigilante and self-made leader of underground elites who “run” Gotham (killed the previous one and he was so impressed by her underhanded moves he placed her in his will instead of his son lmao)
anyway, snippet of Lucy and her (future ex) husband:
“Why darling”— she let out a scandalized gasp— “do you really think I would stray from you?” He merely gazed at her, eyes blank and cold. Lucy stared back, not one to be challenged. She knew he was just riling her up. Not that she was surprised in the slightest of his behavior. Lucy knew this was because of his alleged rivalry with a dear friend of hers. A dear friend whose father was the host of this gala. The gala said dear friend was said to be attending. “I would never doubt a woman who gave me a solemn vow.”
18. Mob Boss Lucy, Basically
remember what i wrote for 17? now let’s shift it to the right again! it’s me taking plot from 16 & 17 and trying to give Nick and Lucy an original story. Lucy still becomes a self-made mob boss but there’s no Gotham, no vigilantes.
the story here is that Lucy and Nick are building their power whilst evading the law and destroying any evidence that would lead to them bc their being hunted by a detective (who’s also Lucy’s childhood friend) and a private investigator
19. Dandelions
explained here
20. not really a sequel but it happens after
so this one is a continuation/sequel to 16. Lucy and Nick are happily married and adopted a really sweet kid (Caleb) but— oh no! horrible mercenaries attack Lucy and Caleb on their walk to the park! It leaves Lucy in critical condition and caused a magical outburst from Caleb and— whoops, there’s now a rift in time and space 🤷🏻‍♀️
i don’t really have much written and it’s self indulgent anyway so yeah
AND THERE YOU GO 🎉 phew that took me a bit but it was fun talking about them so thanks for the ask @thiamsxbitch 💕💕💕💕💕

2. Do you plan each chapter ahead or write as you go?
I've definitely been getting better about planning, not gonna lie. I started making a list of scenes per chapter if I know it's going to be a chaptered fic, and that's helped a LOT.
11. Link your three favorite fics right now
Oh boy, okay, here we go. Right now, my favorite fics are:
See No Evil; Love Me Blind, heir to the devil's fortune, and Mistakes Were Made, with anything grayintogreen writes always topping the list as well, but no one fic stands out of theirs.
14. How do you write emotional scenes? Do you ever feel what the characters feel? Do you draw from personal experiences?
It depends on the POV. I will act out a scene with stuffed animals if I think I need to properly stage it before I write it. Sometimes I'll script it dialogue-only. I have purposely put myself in rough emotional states to write certain things before (shout out to the time I made myself cry for 3 hours before writing a character's suicide note).
16. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them?
23! There are 23 currently, organized on a Notion page for when I feel like writing them. One of the ideas that's stuck in the 'musing' phase right now is a fic where it's the Thelyss brothers that Artagan meets when he first comes to Exandria, and how that might affect any of the characters involved there.
18. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?
Before/during! I reblog a decent amount of poetry, and I go back through my posts when I need inspiration for a name. I will sometimes change the name of a WIP (recent change includes 'make it stone' -> 'a sapphire's desire')
22. Are there certain types of writing you won’t do? (style, pov, genre, tropes, etc)
First person POV, anything involving heats or 'fuck or die' tropes, I'm not a huge sci-fi person.
49. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?
I can't remember the last time I got a rude review, in all honesty. I kinda wish I got them sometimes. I need something to laugh at.
50. How long is your longest fic?
Currently still on ao3, just under 20k words published. I had one I co-wrote with my ex that I think was approaching 80k words in our document when we broke up and it was abandoned.
60. Have you had a writer you admire comment on your fic? What was that like?
absolutely!! It was INCREDIBLY nerve-wracking when it happened (tbf I had claimed a prompt they had written for a fest, so obviously they were going to see it!) but I'm always combatting just a lil bit of imposter syndrome.
67. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas?
I'm the kind of person who thrives off of both. For about 4 years, I exclusively wrote for fanfic fests and challenges, and it worked GREAT. It's been almost 3 years since I moved onto writing independent ideas and I've been enjoying it, but I do miss the ease of using someone else's brainpower to come up with the idea.

Helloooo ^o^ I have a writing question! Do you ever plan out a series then get so excited you write a whole scene/chapter before it's time? Like the biggest action sequence or the biggest plot twist and would you recommend doing so?
Secondly, for moc have you fleshed out the ending, like do you know how it's going to end? And if not at what point will you decide to do so? Bc I'm planning a fic I haven't planned out the ending for but I really want to start writing it! And tbf I'm not at all sure how it's going to end
Ooh and also (pls tell me if I'm being annoying) when you were planning out moc characters, did they seem to mold themselves a certain way automatically? like I didn't want my character or my story to go in this direction but really it's the best way or the only option to write it this way!
And lastly do you have any advice for new writers? Much appreciated!!!
Also the most recent moc I AM BARELY BREATHING the hongjoong scene I cannot see straight I am too in my head about him ughhh JUST ONE CHANCE I BEG no but I looooove your writing so much 😌 take good care of yourself my dear caly ❤️❤️
oh absolutely ALWAYS!! i do that so so often, i have one of the final scenes of moc written and tucked away in a google doc for when the time finally comes 😭 in fact i very often construct my scenes around an idea that i have and i'll write out a whole scene if i feel really excited about it!! i totally recommend it, i recommend that you write whatever comes to your mind without stopping to edit or anything and just leave that bit for later. write whatever is in your brain and let it all out then you can go back after the fact and edit and make changes as you see fit! it's best to just,, let it rip i think
secondly, i have not fully fleshed out the ending. atm (and kinda since the beginning) i have had two ideas for the ending that are quite different so i guess you could say i have a vague-ish idea in that sense. i will definitely need to decide which way things go around act 12/13 i think? 14 at the LATEST. i'm not the best person about ending things tho bc i fear ending things period but i think it's always a good thing to think about while still in the planning stages bc that will help you figure out how you want to get from point A to point B!
honestly when i was initially structuring the characters i think i wrote 1-2 pages worth of character notes for each one, but when i finally started writing, things kinda just took their own course. now when i look back at those character notes, things are vastly different and there are only some minor bits/backstory notes that are still the same kkkk so yeah they molded themselves just with the writing as i went!! there are definitely things in retrospect i wish were different but honestly i don't want the characters themselves to be different from what they have made themselves become im happy in that regard ^-^
my advice to new writers is to simply not be afraid to write for yourself. i spent probably 8-9 years writing just for myself and i never posted anything and it was all simply for me but even just having that experience of constantly writing, constantly reading, constantly growing my writing in all sorts of avenues was something that really helped when i did find the courage to start posting my writing here on tumblr!
thank you so much for asking me so many questions i hope my advice can help even just a little bit and im sOOO so thankful that you enjoy moc so much hehe i love seeing people engrossed with hongjoong :3 take care of yourself too beloved 💕💕💕💕💕💕

Are the second generation really meant to mirror the first? I'm helping my sister revise for her end of unit test on it and it's mentioned quiet a bit in her notes but from what I've read (though tbf though- I'm reading certain parts for revision) I'm not really getting the vibe of that tbh. Can you help me understand why people may think this. Thank you.
Disclaimer: I'm certainly not an expert on the book and the criticisms about it - I read about it purely for my own enjoyment and there are many interpretations I’m probably not aware of.
First, I would say they aren’t exact replicas or mirrors but are more like echos or perhaps extensions of the first generation. Certainly all the baggage of the previous generation is placed on them. Catherine Linton and Hareton Earnshaw are much easier to connect to the first generation then Linton is, in my opinion, but some critics have tried to do so - mostly in asserting that there is a love triangle between them similar to Heathcliff/Catherine/Edgar. There are a number of connections that critics make between Hareton/Cathy and Heathcliff/Catherine and some have been told a million times but I’ll try to cover the ones I remember. Let me see if I can keep this organized and not get too off topic.
The similarity of their characters: At first glance you have the repetition of names - “C” and “H” appear repeatedly. Most apparent is that Catherine Linton is named for her mother. Hareton, although obviously an old family name since its been carved above the threshold of the Heights, it does feel intentional in furthering the connection between “C” and “H.” I’ve always found it interesting we have this scene from Cathy II and Linton in Chapter 14, that seems to directly call out the C & H connection:
“We found two in a cupboard, among a heap of old toys, tops, and hoops, and battledores and shuttlecocks. One was marked C., and the other H.; I wished to have the C., because that stood for Catherine, and the H. might be for Heathcliff, his name; but the bran came out of H., and Linton didn’t like it.”
Funnily I don’t think the H is for Heathcliff, I think its more likely meant for Hindley, but of course Heathcliff has been semi-assimilated into the Earnshaw family by being given the name Heathcliff, which was the name of a deceased child. To me at least, none of these feel unintentional, it feels fated since we have these repetitions noted by the characters themselves.
Cathy doesn’t only share a name with her mother, she lives in her shadow. We know from Nelly that, “On the anniversary of her birth we never manifested any signs of rejoicing, because it was also the anniversary of my late mistress’s death.” Edgar seems to cherish her in part because she is a remnant of her mother, even displaying many similar characteristics, although Nelly is quick to note Cathy is softer and more genteel - which makes sense considering she grows up with a loving father in a calm environment that lets her do as she pleases. She doesn't grow up with the harshness of the Earnshaw family, and Joseph's ranting, and it also seems that Nelly may have softened and become more maternal as years have gone by. I’d say she does become more and more like her mother after living at Wuthering Heights though.
Some really great parallels between the two Catherine’s dialog have been made by Ann Dobyns - I’ve posted a few excerpts from her essay here if anyone is interested, it’s a bit more in-depth than this needs to be though.
Hareton has many parallels to Heathcliff as well - this is intentionally done by Heathcliff who, upon Hindley’s death, speaking of his plotting says, “And we’ll see if one tree won’t grow as crooked as another, with the same wind to twist it!” Heathcliff and Hareton have such an odd fated destiny, from the moment Heathcliff saves his life by catching him as his father dropped him over the bannister of second floor. Hareton from the start fears his natural father, “squalling and kicking in his father’s arms,” Nelly even fears Hindley will “frighten the child into fits.” Worlds different the description of a scene of very typical father/son affection described by Nelly during Hindley’s funeral when she says little Hareton, “played with Heathcliff’s whiskers, and stroked his cheek.” Or earlier when she had asked Hareton if he liked Heathcliff and he says:
“Ay!” he answered again. Desiring to have his reasons for liking him, I could only gather the sentences—“I known’t: he pays dad back what he gies to me—he curses daddy for cursing me.
In Hareton’s mind Heathcliff is more a protector than his father, and I suppose in many ways he is better than Hindley’s random obscene violence. As wrong as it is that Heathcliff denies Hareton his inheritance and an education, I think it does say something (not entirely sure what) that he is never physically abusive to Hareton in the way Hindley was with him. Hareton doesn’t ever show any real fear of Heathcliff.
Heathcliff has his own complex feelings towards Hareton, definitely preferring him to his own son - he tells Nelly, “Do you know that, twenty times a day, I covet Hareton, with all his degradation? I’d have loved the lad had he been some one else.” So it seems we have the daughter of Catherine and the wished for son of Heathcliff. Lockwood even mistakes Hareton to be Heathcliff’s son momentarily in Chapter 2.
Some other parallels - Heathcliff notes the similarities between them later on in a discussion with Nelly:
“He’ll not venture a single syllable all the time! Nelly, you recollect me at his age—nay, some years younger. Did I ever look so stupid: so ‘gaumless,’ as Joseph calls it?”
“Worse,” I replied, “because more sullen with it.”
On other occasions Nelly talks about how Heathcliff liked to induce horror from those around him and “he contrived to convey an impression of inward and outward repulsiveness.” Hareton behaves similarly - in one scene after being taunted by Linton and Cathy, he throws Linton from the room to the disgust and fear of Cathy in Chapter 23:
...Earnshaw burst the door open: having gathered venom with reflection. He advanced direct to us, seized Linton by the arm, and swung him off the seat.
“‘Get to thy own room!’ he said, in a voice almost inarticulate with passion; and his face looked swelled and furious. ‘Take her there if she comes to see thee: thou shalln’t keep me out of this. Begone wi’ ye both!’
“He swore at us, and left Linton no time to answer, nearly throwing him into the kitchen; and he clenched his fist as I followed, seemingly longing to knock me down. I was afraid for a moment, and I let one volume fall; he kicked it after me, and shut us out.”
Similarly, when sitting next to him, Lockwood says, “My neighbour struck me as bordering on repulsive.” Even Nelly, who I’d say is typically biased towards Hareton, upon seeing him says he “seemed as awkward and rough as ever.”  Lockwood also describes him as being “almost haughty,” similar to Nelly’s repeated references to Heathcliff’s ego and “proud heart.”
Heathcliff further casts light on their parallels when he says he sees Hareton as the “personification of my youth,” adding that, “Hareton's aspect was the ghost of my immortal love, of my wild endeavours to hold my right, my degradation, my pride, my happiness, and my anguish.”
The love triangle:  I know some critics have said the dynamic between the Linton/Catherine/Hareton is similar to Edgar/Catherine/Heathcliff - I don't particularly see this. Cathy II is forced into marriage with Linton and at that point doesn't have notable feelings towards Hareton, compared to her mother who knows she loves Heathcliff more and still does have a choice to make even if it isn’t an easy one.
Still, there are similarities in their relationship in that both men (Heathcliff and Hareton) end up feeling the need to better themselves because for their respective Catherine. Nelly says of Hareton, “He had been content with daily labour and rough animal enjoyments, till Catherine crossed his path. Shame at her scorn, and hope of her approval were his first prompters to higher pursuits.” I think this is similar to Heathcliff deciding to run away after years of abuse and to risk everything, including his life, after hearing Catherine says it would “degrade” her to marry him. Hareton does seem to show some jealously over Cathy’s attention and regard of Linton, and again with the presence of Lockwood so I suppose it is sort of love triangle-y?
I also think Hareton shows signs of a growing devotion, similar to what Heathcliff felt towards Catherine. He certainly seems to be enamored by Cathy from the very first time they meet - Nelly says he, “stared at her with considerable curiosity and astonishment” and was, “too awkward to speak; though he looked as if he did not relish my intrusion.”
Something I’ve mentioned before is that Lockwood says about Hareton and Cathy, “Together, they would brave Satan and all his legions,” which feels like a direct parallel to Heathcliff’s assertion to Catherine that, “misery and degradation, and death, and nothing that God or Satan could inflict would have parted us.”
Also Heathcliff seemingly attempts to play the role Hindley played in his youth when he tells Cathy, “Your love will make him an outcast and a beggar.” It seems both Catherine and Heathcliff knew their love would result in the same situation as Catherine relays this to Nelly when she says, “did it never strike you that if Heathcliff and I married, we should be beggars?”
There is also, of course, the similarity of social stature - when Cathy first meets Hareton, he has nothing to his name and lives almost as a servant at Wuthering Heights, similar to Heathcliff’s position while Hindley was master. Cathy, similar to her mother, is better educated and has more opportunities - there is no socially accepted reason that she would choose Hareton, seeing as he can’t give her money, status, or respectability.
The circle of events and “The Butterfly:” It does feel, in my opinion at least, that it is no accident that our happy ending is the union of Hareton and Cathy. It couldn’t happen with just any couple or in any other way. It does feel that they are made into the semi-proteges of Heathcliff and Catherine, and the elements of the Linton’s allows for there to be peace between the two families. There is a kind of resolution and unification of their energies.
This is probably the most common narrative of the connection between Hareton/Cathy and Heathcliff/Catherine, and that is rather than just a parallel, critics have noted that the story of Catherine comes full circle with their marriage. The first Catherine wrote out her possible futures on her window sill in the names: Catherine Earnshaw, Catherine Heathcliff and Catherine Linton. Her daughter ends up reversing these different identities being born a Linton, marrying a Heathcliff, and finally an Earnshaw. That can’t be merely a coincidence.
Critic Dorothy Van Ghent deemed Catherine and Heathcliff the “original two” and she said that with the civilizing of Cathy and Hareton, "the great magic, the wild power, of the original two has been lost.” Others say that while poetically it makes sense within the repetition, Catherine and Hareton’s relationship is “improbable” but I disagree. I really liked Carol Ramsden’s take on this that incorporates Emily’s essay “The Butterfly,” and makes the parallel between the 1st and 2nd generation - I have posted this before but to save myself the time of rephrasing it I’ll just post the quote:
In Wuthering Heights, we encounter a destructive principle at work in the love between Catherine and Heathcliff. The principle is manifested fully in Catherine’s mental collapse and Heathcliff’s vindictiveness. However, the love between Cathy and Hareton is allowed to flower and they are both, in their own ways, products of the first lovers. The principle of destruction, as in “The Butterfly”, is transformed into a creative energy. Ultimately, Catherine and Heathcliff are also not deprived of this creative energy. Instead of representing a pessimistic view of life, their love, too, comes to suggest that all things work together towards good.
I think that’s an interesting take, besides just a happy ending for Hareton and Cathy it almost feels like a happy ending for Catherine and Heathcliff? In some ways they burned up only to transform into something better. Not saying that is how it is meant to be read, but I do like it (probably because I like a happy ending).
I feel like there are other points that I’ve forgotten? But these are what I remember at least.

Note
12-20 for the asks <3
12. do you ever have trouble focusing on writing? how do you get around that?
hi. i'm griffin. i haven't posted anything fic-wise since may. YES i have trouble focusing on writing,
once i actually get down to it i'm there, i'm in it. it's the getting there that's hard. i have a note on my phone that is just... all these lightbulb-esque, hare-brained ideas i've had for tkt over the months. i wish i had a method for getting around it but i literally have to trick my brain into doing it atm <3
13. talk about a writing experience that has pleasantly surprised you.
truly can't believe i'm like 60k published into a fic. i think before this my longest fic was around 40? and tkt will probably end up between 85-100k, when i only ever planned it to be around 50.
14. what’s your worst writing habit?
oh i get into the editing loop So Easily. i have a solid chunk outlined but not Written and every time i think about picking up where i left off i feel the urgent desire to edit the previous 15 chapters first. i have them in a separate folder so they are out of sight out of mind.
15. where do you share your writing?
ao3, mostly. if it's short i sometimes only share it here. plenty of times i have ideas i don't wanna write but i outline them in dms or a small server.
16. where is your favorite place to write?
genuinely, from my bed. my computer is uncomfortable to write at and idk why, so if i'm just outlining and don't need to edit? i write from my phone.
17. what is your favorite line you’ve ever written?
well. that's hard for two reasons. one, i've written a lot. two, i don't remember half the shit i've written. <3 honest answer is probably the dialogue i came up with for [redacted].
18. what is your most and least favorite part of writing?
obsessing over writing a scene in a way that it translates exactly the way i pictured it. my 'outlines' are more akin to a rough draft, where i just put down exactly what is playing out in my head. it's usually messy and/or plain, and goes through three total stages before i post it. if i could somehow knock out one of those middle stages, i'd be golden...
19. what are some books or authors that influenced your style the most?
hmmm. considering i didn't get back into reading until recently, i don't know? probably a bunch of fanfic writers, people whose style i tried and sometimes failed to emulate but wound up finding my own voice. it also deeply depends on what i'm writing.
i don't think i've ever written anything as detailed as i write for king's tide, and that's because i'm pretty sure most of the people reading it have zero sailing experience (me neither, tbf, but i've done bucketloads of research. i know if i'm introducing a new concept i should do it in eddie's pov, so a more experienced character can explain it (usually buck lmao).
compared to like... random oneshots, the pov is usually about which one will have more impact. or which character i want the viewer to 'see', which i also do in king's tide where i can. for example, the scene where buck has a spear laid across his shoulders with his arms hanging from it? that was purely me thinking about buck in that pose and saying to myself, 'yes. i can make that happen.'
20. what is your favorite trope to write?
hmmm. i don't know if i've written enough things to have one tbfh. i kinda just write what i like. does alternate universe count? i almost can't watch a movie or tv show without saying 'ok how can i make this about 911'
send me asks about fanfic

@on-maars ooh tysm for the tag! I haven't seen this tag game before 💜
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 252
2. What's your total AO3 word count? at the moment, it's 487,043
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they? man idk...too many. maybe, like, 15? I'm not gonna list them all 😂
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
baby come home - 2052 (when i tell you i cried...)
come home to my heart - 1697
fake boyfriends (with real kisses) - 1623
don't tell my husband (he'll kill me) - 1615
it's always been you - 1597
5. What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending? oh, I have no clue. I very rarely write angst so it'd be an old fic anyways
6. What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending? umm...all of them?! literally, I pretty much exclusively write fluff so all my fics are happy endings
7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you've written? rarely. I'll sometimes do a fic of 9-1-1/lone star or combine the hbo war shows. the craziest one I did was (wow almost exactly a year ago!) 'don't count your chickens before they hatch', a world war z/justified soulmate fic that I actually really like 😂
8. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? not often, and usually it's from a prompt or request because I suck at smut
9. Do you respond to comments, why or why not? of course! every single comment I receive makes my day!! the fact that people read my work, let alone take the time to leave comments, is so insane to me
10. Have you ever received hate on a fic? not that I know of?
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? again, not that I know of
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I think I have? a while back...it might've been a reed900 fic? idk off the top of my head though
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? not an entire fic but I've bounced plot ideas with friends before whilst writing, that's always super fun
14. What's your all time favourite ship? to write for? probably buddie at the moment. honestly, it's impossible to choose an 'all time favourite' anything with me though 😂
15. What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will? I have an old reed900 strip club!au that will probably never be finished at this point, as well as a 17k hogwarts au for the pacific that I haven't touched in a year 😭 tbf it's safe to say that any WIPs I've got posted atm probably won't be finished
16. What are your writing strengths? nothing? 😂 idk, I guess I can turn small interactions into meaningful gestures? that's what people tell me anyways
17. What are your writing weaknesses? obviously multi-chapter fics. or just longfics in general. my inspiration has commitment issues and doesn't often stay around long enough for me to write much more than 5k of one idea. which sucks because I'm great at coming up with ideas that could fill 100k 😂
18. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? I have done it often, there's a few bilingual characters I write for. I also love reading fics that have other languages, it always feels more authentic? I don't mind having to use the translator
19. What was the first fandom you wrote for? there'll be no surprise that it was the maze runner - newtmas to be more specific. I'd never considered writing fic before, until lil' fetus me was struck with an idea that I just had to write down
20. What's your favourite fic you've written? oh, I don't know. I tend to love my fics as I'm writing them but once they're finished I hate them? take my jegulus WIP atm, I adore it right now but when it's over I'll probably look back and realise how much it sucks 😂
