I roleplay as Dr. Cortex on Twitter with my friends sometimes. My friend Lisa has her own version of what Tawnaverse Dr. Cortex is like. And thinking about her has me wondering what other versions of Cortex exist out there in the Multiverse, and the story possibilities they all present...
Gosh, I want to see a mainline game where there's like... a Council of Cortexes or something. Maybe one where Original Timeline Cortex and post-IAT Cortex have to work together or fight each other to the death or something.
... Twist: the Council of Cortexes is being puppeteered by N. Tropy and the two Cortexes AND Crash and Coco have to kick his ass...
... but once they do they find out there's a council of Tropys.

Empress Velo wins a race against Tawna and to be “fair” she locks her in a cell instead of just. completely destroying Earth (what a charitable gal amirite??)... However, she does intend to leave Tawna in there indefinitely. It’s a good thing she’s at least got company...? Tawna plans to escape, though she can’t do much with those cuffs around her hands. But, what’s this? Her cellmate Otto has one free hand! Maybe he can help her out? He’s awfully rusty though. Even Otto himself is unsure if he has the willpower or battery life to move from his spot.
Empress Velo returns! Here is what her mech looks like. It’s not anatomically correct by any means, since Velo is unashamed of her appearance & doesn’t feel the need to use a disguise, instead using the mech to intimidate her enemies. It’s very shiny, she polishes it herself. I also have a new interp, Otto! He is not, and never was, Velo’s champion in this universe, instead being an ex racer who disobeyed her and was locked away for decades, causing his once lustrous body to rust and fall apart. I like to think he and Tawna can form an alliance and break out of Hyper Spaceway, even if it seems like things are hopeless now. If you’re wondering where this would fit in the Crash timeline, I imagine it’s probably after Crash 4? Though, I don’t know when Tawna would go back to her home dimension. Maybe the next Crash game will answer that?
making this painting was fucking exhausting and it took over 8h 44m (which I am saying bc I wasn’t keeping track of drawing time when I made the sketch) and also I had to stitch it back together after getting a new computer bc the CSP file was destroyed!! fun stuf
Here is an alternative version without character shading, as well as a closeup of Evie (unshaded) since she’s so tiny.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time – Tawna Gameplay Reveal | PlayStation Underground
Overview via PlayStation Blog:
In Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, our heroes Crash and Coco set off on an action-packed adventure across space and time where they encounter more than a few familiar faces from the classic N. Sane Trilogy. One character that we were really excited to shine the spotlight on in this new story was Tawna Bandicoot.
Appearing only in the first game of the trilogy as Crash’s girlfriend, Tawna was the damsel in distress archetype and we never got to really learn much about her. Early on in Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, Crash and Coco cross paths with a Tawna from what we at Toys For Bob have been calling the “Tawnaverse,” an alternate dimension where she is the hero in her own story. This gave us the opportunity to rethink Tawna and establish a clear new voice for her in Crash 4.
Early concept designs for Tawna.
To make “Tawnaverse” Tawna a fully fleshed out character, we had to answer some core questions about her: How is this Tawna different from the one we already know? What happened to her that made her this way? What are her key personality traits? What does she sound like? If Tawna is the hero of her universe, how would she respond to different situations?
The answers to these questions, and many more, helped us to discover a strong, dynamic & multi-dimensional (literally) version of Tawna that’s fierce and aspirational. What’s even more exciting is that in Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time you will actually be able to swing into action as this new Tawna! Joining Neo Cortex and Dingodile as a playable character, Tawna has her own unique playstyle and an exciting new look as well…
A bold new look
As an alternate universe character, we had a tremendous amount of creative freedom to re-envision Tawna. This Tawna is an experienced adventurer, a daring, driven, and confident hero. She needed to exude strength and dexterity, so we looked towards powerful athletic bodies as inspiration for her physique. She is a lone wolf who likes to think that she doesn’t need anyone’s help, and we wanted that to come across in all aspects of her look, from her outfit to her range of expressions.
The many expressions of Tawna.
We iterated on her design for quite a while with early concepts ranging from an Australian outback adventurer, to a tough as nails rock climbing daredevil, before finally finding our Tawna. The quirky mix of her spiked leather jacket, punky half shaved, blue-dyed hairstyle. and bright pink leg warmers shows a woman who walks to the beat of her own drum. Everyone on the art team, from concept artists, to character modelers, to the amazing riggers and animators did an amazing job bringing her to life!
High-flying fun
While we’re super excited about Tawna’s cool new look and the pivotal role that she plays in the story, we’ve also designed an awesome new playstyle and move set for her. Each of the three new playable characters in Crash 4 has a unique way to move about and interact with the world. Dingodile uses his vacuum to give himself an extra floaty jump, Neo Cortex has a speedy forward dash move, and Tawna is no exception.
Equipped with a versatile hook-shot ability that allows her to quickly traverse levels and attack enemies and break crates from afar, Tawna feels as powerful and exciting as she looks. She also has a devastating ground-pound attack, spin kicks, and can reach new heights with her acrobatic wall jump. Playing as Tawna feels fast, fluid, and fresh, while still retaining the precision and intensity that makes Crash Bandicoot such a unique platforming experience.
From the heart
The new Tawna holds a special place in our hearts at Toys for Bob. As game developers, we’re passionate about telling stories and creating characters that delight and inspire. We seek to promote and expand upon the representation of female characters in games, and think that this new Tawna is a complex and aspirational hero that all players will fall in love with. We can’t wait for everyone to experience Tawna when she leaps into action on PS4 in Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time when it’s released on October 2.

!!Masterpost of Details on My Personal Crash AU(s)!!
These are fully self-indulgent and exist purely for my own amusement. Selfship content ahead! You have been warned!
Other Warnings: Fictional character being in a romantically ambiguous situation with an AU version of themselves, mentions of periods of turmoil in relationships, mentions of canon/headcanon deaths of characters
Everything is fine and healthy in the end!! :)
Normal/Canon Timeline: “Normalverse”
- Follows the canonical events of the games (with some self indulgent modifications).
- Nefarious returned to his original universe after the events of Crash 4. FemTr.opy returned to hers. He spends loooooots of time kissing up to his wife, though he eventually ends back up in Opal’s good graces.
- Not too much to say about this one! The protagonists win. The villains (Tr.opy especially) are immensely humbled. Everything is well! (…. For now??)
Alt!Tawna + FemTr.opy’s original Timeline: “Tawnaverse”
- Follows the events of the dimension where our beloved bandicoot protagonists are no more. A bittersweet reality.
- FemTr.opy was married to Opal up until she murdered Crash, Coco, and her dimension's version of Co.rtex. Upon learning of their demise Opal was completely heartbroken. She packed her bags and fled. The woman joined the remaining bandicoots (who had teamed up with Tawna to take down the great evil that loomed over them). Here she met Ami. A romance blossomed between them and they went on to marry.
- In this particular instance, FemTr.opy was forced to return to her home world after the events of Crash 4, where she would eventually be caught and imprisoned for her crimes. She would remain locked up until her eventual passing.
- In this timeline, Opal essentially became a 'werebilby' due to drinking one of Brio's concoctions. It took her a while to get control of, but now she can phase between her human form and bilby form as she pleases.
- In the end, all those who deserve it get to live out their happily ever after in this universe... except for Crash and Coco. This fact looms over the heads of all the survivors. No matter how much time passes, it doesn't get easier for those who knew the siblings.
Most Commonly Depicted Timeline: “OT3verse”
- Follows an AU where the Tr.opys reign supreme but are constantly reined in by their significantly shorter, good-doer wife. Hijinks ensure.
- This timeline is the result of Nefarious bringing Nefertiti back to his original dimension after the events of Crash 4, rather than returning alone as he did in other AUs.
- Opal was NOT HAPPY when her husband brought back his other self. How dare? He invalidate?? The sanctity of their fucking marriage?? She was this close to separating from him/wouldn’t even acknowledge FemTr.opy. Both Tr.opys freaked out. The course of events may have played out VERY differently if it weren’t for FemTr.opy’s determination to make things right. It took months. Opal eventually was willing to give them both a chance but they had to start from square one. Trust had to be established. Rules and boundaries had to be made. Eventually one thing let to another and before they knew it they were planning the largest wedding celebration the world would ever see. 🕒🐇🕒
- The Tr.opys technically win in this universe. Of course Opal wasn't about to let them get away with smiting their enemies, so a compromise had to be made. It was agreed that a brand new dimension would be created to satisfy the masters of time while the bandicoots (and basically anyone else they don't care for) would live undisturbed in another pocket of the universe.
- Having lost her beloved wife (not to mention basically everything) in her old timeline, this FemTr.opy has taken it upon herself to not repeat her past mistakes. She isn't an entirely different person by any means, but in order to make things work this time around she needed to drop her cruelty to animals and find more... constructive ways to manage her tendencies.
- The relationship between the Tro.pys isn't inherently romantic. For them, it's more like having a clone to relate to. Why, imagine being a self-absorbed individual with a mirror reflection that can interact with you! In other words, they view the other as an extension of themselves. Certainly there's flirting between them, but that's mostly it.
- That being said, both Tro.pys know what if it came down to it, Nefertiti has the capacity to throw Nefarious into a raging fire with little to no remorse. She has more of a mean streak than he does, and she is fully determined to not lose what she had a second time around. He does not care to get on her bad side,
- Opal keeps her horologist spouses in line. They need someone to keep them in check. Hey, they can still be evil, sure! They just need to be evil within reason.
MORE SHIP DYNAMIC INFO:
Opal/Tr.opy- The exact moment Nefarious started to take an interest in her was when she worriedly asked Dr. Cor.tex about his obvious jaundice. She wasn't trying to be mean, but everyone who was present at the time broke out into laughter at Neo's expense. Opal and Nefarious share a love of history, traveling through time, and appreciating the cultures of various societies- both old and new. They both also enjoy puns, though he only takes interest in time-related jokes. Their relationship has an air of nostalgic decorum. However there is a small point of contention, as ever so often Nefarious lets it slip he thinks he's smarter than her (in multiple contexts he is but that's not the point).
Opal/Tr.opy (f)- Their relationship is surprising, given Nefertiti's pension for brutality. In the Tawnaverse, her sadistic tendencies were the reason Opal insisted upon a divorce. In order to make things work the second time around, the female Tr.opy had to redirect her destructiveness into more conductive avenues. She is incredibly soft on her wife, and has a hard time telling Opal “no”. They bond over history and exploring the world via time travel as well, but with an added fascination of the more morbid elements to reality. The Mistress of Time can be ice cold at the best of times but she'll absolutely melt in Opal's presence. It's a bit of a sight to behold.
Opal/Ami- They're two super soft dorks. Both are 100% fully grown individuals who are ready to cry over anything from an a fictional character's death to an adorable bunny at any given moment. They like indulging each other's interests, so much so that they've successfully converted their respective spouse dabble in the other's hobbies (Opal does a bit of noncompetitive racing and Ami now has immense respect for creative processes). Ami encourages Opal to be more active while Opal reminds Ami to settle down and chill out regularly.

Since Crash Bandicoot gets a Carbon Clone called Carbon Crash, why not Coco? So meet Carbon Coco. She will have the same abilities and same voice actresses as Coco Bandicoot.
After the end of the Radical Wave *After the events of Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D but before Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 2*, Carbon Coco was born, having the same personality, intelligence, and abilities as the real Coco, the Quantum Masks Lani-Loli, Akano, Kupuna-Wa, and Ika-Ika found her after taking Bumpy Woylie, Coati Jake, Kooky Burra, Sugarchidna, Splatter Platypus, and Gasmoxian siblings Kaisui and Ensui Natsumi back to their homes, and decided to guide her to the real Coco Bandicoot.
A year after Crash, Coco, Crunch, Yaya, Aku Aku, and the Cortex Commandos stopped Nitros Oxide from using the Doomsday device t take over Earth. Carbon Coco has finally met the real Coco Bandicoot and her brother Crash, Crunch, Aku Aku, Polar, Pura, Baby T, and as well as Carbon Crash, Carbon Coco's older brother thanks to the Quantum Masks. Then Crash, Coco, Carbon Crash, and Carbon Coco had their adventure together.
After the events of Crash On The Run, Carbon Crash and Carbon Coco came to live in the Tawnaverse with the alternate version of Tawna Bandicoot.
Drawn on ibisPaint X on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A.

I wanted to make a playlist about Classic Tawna Bandicoot. The OG Tawna. Original flavor Bandicutie. Turns out it's kinda hard to do that when the focus is on Tawnaverse Tawna nowadays (I love her, but she's not the original). So it's still a work in-progress.

✍️ Draw Velo as he appears in the Tawnaverse from Crash 4. 🧜♀️👽✨
Empress Velo XXVII, the ruler of the galaxy (and racer of racers)! Unlike her main dimensional counterpart, Empress V. is actually quite tall for a Velonian! As such, though she does wear a robotic suit sometimes, she makes no attempt to hide her true identity. Her Citadel is located on an asteroid shaped like her undisguised face, rather than her disguise (this also carries over to Terra's largest moon, which still has a face on it even in the Tawnaverse. Why? Because I thought it was funny).
Naturally since in this universe, Crash & Coco are out of the picture, Velo sets her sights on Tawna instead. Much more inclined to fight Velo head-on, Tawna puts up quite a fight against the empress, even outside the race track! Tawna likes to call her 'Evie', a nickname Velo absolutely cannot stand (which is why Tawna keeps calling her that, LOL).
Power-wise, Velo is about on the same level as Tawna and Tropy, but this is only if you count her mech's power level; without it she's about as strong as Cortex... which is to say, not at all, but I guess still stronger than the main dimension's Velo without his suit? She does, however, hold an INSANE amount of influence over her galaxy, much like her main dimension counterpart!
This piece is actually a reference to an older piece of mine featuring Velo, and I think it rlly showcases how my style & skill level has changed over the past year. I'm pretty happy with that old piece, but even happier about this one!

How was Alt Tawna before we met her on Crash 4?
My headcanon is that Coco and Crash went on adventures with her, everythin was fine until "Warped" were in a surprise attack F. Tropy killed Tawna's friends.

Publisher Activision and developer Toys for Bob have will release a Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time demo to uses who digitally pre-order the game for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One on September 16, the companies announced.
The demo will include two levels from Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, featuring Crash Bandicoot and Neo Cortex as playable characters. It will also let users experience some of the new Quantum Masks: “Kupuna-Wa” to control time and “Lani-Loi” to phase objects in and out of existence. The demo will be available to download until the game’s launch to all users who pre-order the game digitally, past or present.
Additionally, the PlayStation Blog has gone up with the first gameplay video and information on playable character Tawna Bandicoot. Here are the details:
