it’s not often that tate gets a crush, certainly not often that he tells faye about it and even less often that it turns into anything. but with benji things feel different. it feels nice. it feels like something that could be safe. tate may not have much experience with feeling safe, the idea of safety itself may feel terrifying, but something about the time he’s spent with benji feels like it could be good. but faye, apparently, disagrees. “ he likes me, faye. i know he does. ” and yet there’s a waver in his voice, the slightest uncertainty. tate has never felt like someone who had the option of romance, who could ever find someone who truly wanted him, desired him, in such a way. most people think pretty little of him, he knows that, but he likes to think that maybe benji sees something in him. really sees something good.

faye and bradley are the only people who have ever truly given him a shot, he thinks the world of them, thinks they’re the epitome of what it means to be loved. which is exactly why benji has such a grip on him. he goes above and beyond what the other two ever did, benji doing more for tate in a few months than bradley had done in his entire life. there was a strange freedom with benji, this feeling like he wasn’t being judged, wasn’t doing anything wrong. faye’s not the only one to speak up against it, bradley had been plenty vocal on how much he fucking hated benji, which only leaves the blonde even more confused on where to go. his entire life, bradley and faye are the only ones who have ever cared about him. he doesn’t want to just jump ship the moment someone new comes along, but can’t they see how happy he is with benji? don’t they see how good it makes him feel?

(bradley sees exactly that, has seen how giddy tate gets, has watched as benji pulled him away from the drinking and the drugs. there’s no way bradley was gonna let that shit fly.)

“ he cooked me dinner, faye! ” his voice is like a plea, begging her to change her mind, begging her to let him have this. he doesn’t want to ruin this nice thing, doesn’t want to have to push benji away. he thinks, if it became an ultimatum, that maybe he could do it. he thinks maybe he could sacrifice all of his happiness to please them. but he’s not certain, and he knows that if he ever did that he’d actually tell benji what was going on, wouldn’t just ghost him like bradley wants. “ he’s— he’s really nice. and he likes me. he thinks i’m— “ the words don’t come out, some part of tate too embarrassed to say what he’s thinking. he doesn’t believe all the nice things benji says to him, doesn’t believe he could ever be desirable. and some part of him just gets so embarrassed, almost ashamed, to admit to faye that benji almost makes him feel like he could be. the idea of being desired is new and terrifying and embarrassing, he’s certain that bradley and faye would both just laugh at him the moment he admitted he felt that way.

“ he makes me happy. ” voice weak, soft. he doesn’t want to fight, he hates when faye’s upset with him. “ i just— i don’t get why you.. i don’t know what’s wrong. why— why am i delusional for thinking he likes me? ”

"I admired your sketch!"

The cursive note, adorned with a smiley face, stared back at you, earning an A+ grade on your inaugural in-class creative writing assignment at Woodsboro High. As a newcomer, you had hoped your depictions of characters like Garfield and Scooby Doo would endear you to the teachers, and it appeared they did. Sketched in red pen and colored with pastel pink highlighter, your drawings grinned up at you, surrounded by tiny glitter hearts.

"Oh, those are wicked!"

The cute blonde girl seated behind you leaned over your shoulder, her minty breath fanning into your face as she praised, "Do you draw a lot? Did you do those in class? It's pretty fast if you did."

"Yeah! I started doing art last year, but you get better and faster with practice," you replied with a warm smile, eager to make your first friend. "I think these took about 3-4 minutes each."

Your face warmed as she leaned closer, her chest lightly pressing against your back as she inspected your paper. She pointed to the little hearts, "Those are so cute!" Her approving face turned toward you as she introduced herself, "I'm Tatum."

"I'm ____," you replied, pleased to make introductions effortlessly. The teacher's allowance for 5 minutes of free time before class's end was a welcome opportunity for socializing.

"You should join my friends and me after our next class for lunch; maybe some of us will be in your classes!"

"That would be so nice," you said, relief evident in your voice. "I'm honestly pretty shy, so making friends can be intimidating."

Her dazzling smile accompanied her words, "Perfect! If you have Chemistry next with Mr. Scott, I'll show you where it is if you don't already know."

"Um," you leaned down to your backpack, sifting through your new student documents to find your schedule. "Oh, it's actually history with Ms. Johnson."

"Hmm," Tatum leaned back, crossing her legs as she thought. "I think Billy has that class. Maybe if you leave a little early, you can catch him. He's the guy with the, uh," she seemed to struggle for words, "grunge hairstyle? I think he's wearing a dark red t-shirt today if that helps. He's a little grumpy sometimes, though, so if you're too nervous or he's mean, we'll look for you at lunch."

The bell rang, and students not already congregating by the door got up to leave. You neatly tucked your graded paper into its designated folder and stood, slinging your backpack over your shoulder as Tatum rose in tandem.

"I'll try!" you said with a giggle, even though meeting Billy made you nervous. "It was nice to meet you."

"You too," Tatum said, pulling a pack of gum from her bag and offering you a piece before you left. "I think your next class should be in that building, right? I’m not sure if you had it yesterday or if it’s a Tuesday-Thursday class."

Thanking her again, you made sure your Discman had the CD you liked the most before connecting your headphones and heading off in that direction. You'd only have a few minutes of music, but it was worth it!

After finding your next class, you lingered around the door since you were early, hoping to at least place who Billy was from Tatum's description. After a moment of trying to not look awkward as you stood around, you spotted him.

He did have a grungier hair style, reminding you of a movie star you'd seen on TV recently. It threatened to fall in his eyes as he stalked towards the door, a bored look on his face. Now that you noticed him more, it was hard to ignore that he had a pretty face. Trying to not overthink it now that you realized you thought he was kind of cute, you pulled your headphones down from your ears until they hung around your neck as he came closer to the class.

When he noticed you looking at him as he drew closer, his eyes narrowed suspiciously, the scowl on his face deepening and making you feel even more nervous.

"Hi," you said somewhat sheepishly, "I'm ___. I'm new and met Tatum in my last class. You must be Billy."

His eyebrow raises and his eyes soften, but the scowl remains, “Oh?”

“Yeah…” you trail off a little, unsure of what to say since his response was sort of dry, “I’m from the more southern part of the state and we moved up here for my dad’s new job. I hear you guys experience the seasons up here so I’m excited to see them! The leaves never change in the fall where I’m from.”

His dark brown eyes have been boring into yours as you speak, making your face feel warm for the second time today. They dart down to the folder in your hands and he smirks as he says, “That’s cool.”

For your history folder, you’d tried to paint torsos and busts like the ancient historic statues from Greece and Rome you’d seen in a National Geographic magazine on the cover. They were naked torsos, but you had tried to make the nipples on the women look less prominent to avoid getting into trouble. If you had any sense, you’d have depicted something else to entirely avoid the possibility of getting into trouble, but you’d gotten irritated at the idea of censoring art.

“Oh, thank you! I hope I don’t get shit for the nudity, but I guess I could probably give them all clothes if I need to.”

He nods towards the classroom and you notice the hallways are getting quieter, “We should head in. There’s a couple empty seats near me.”

Ms. Johnson's strategy to get the kids interested in history was to start with the brutality of the medieval age, it seemed; with diagrams of the torture methods they created being the highlight of her second class after syllabus day.

The history class, guided by Ms. Johnson's unwavering enthusiasm, delved into the unsettling corners of medieval history. As the lesson progressed, she took a moment to present an image of a haunting artifact, projecting it onto the screen for the entire class to see.

"Now, can anyone tell me what this is?" Ms. Johnson asked, gesturing to the screen. It was a grotesque device, an iron contraption with a cold, heartless design. Sharp spikes protruded inward, forming a cage around the wearer's head. The unsettling silence lingered as the class peered at the image, growing discomfort palpable.

To everyone's surprise, ____ confidently raised her hand, her eyes betraying an unexpected depth of knowledge.

"It's called the Scold's Bridle," she answered, her voice steady. "An oppressive device designed to silence women who dared to speak their minds. The spikes prevented any speaking, ensuring their voices remained stifled."

Billy arched an eyebrow, intrigued. "How do you know about that?"

____ shrugged, a nonchalant smile playing on her lips. "I read a lot. History isn't just about dates and battles; it's about the struggles people faced, especially women, and respecting the challenges they went through."

Billy's skepticism softened as he nodded slightly. "Guess history is more twisted than we think."

____ leaned towards him slightly, a smile on her face that didn't quite reach her eyes and made his spine tingle slightly, "Oh, you have no idea."

"Ah, ____," Ms. Johnson said with genuine admiration and ____'s attention snapped back to her, "Impressive knowledge there. I'm eager to see your thoughts on this in more detail, perhaps in an essay. It's always refreshing when students connect with the material on a deeper level."

"Now, let's delve further into the complexities of medieval society. How these devices were not only instruments of physical torment but also symbolic of the societal norms of the time."

The lesson continued, and ____ slowly flipped through her sketchbook to find a fresh page, seemingly reviewing her previous art briefly as she did so. Billy faced the board, but his eyes were turned downward, toward ____'s hands. He caught a glimpse of previous drawings – a mix of cartoon characters and a few creepier depictions.

Angry faces splattered with red marks resembling blood and figures wearing intimidating masks (or just freaks with the scariest faces ever) caught his eye. Intrigued, he discreetly watched as she began absentmindedly sketching the torture devices described in class as she listened, switching out her pens to smear red ink on them. He caught his scoff before he uttered it when he realized she was drawing the devices in glitter pens, her eyes flickering from the images on the screen to back down at her paper.

He must have been too obvious, leaning in too closely or being too pointed with his staring now because she had flipped to a fresh page and locked eyes, an unreadable expression across her face. There was a pause before she tucked her sketchbook into her bag and turned her attention back towards the board.

Billy felt a mischievous idea forming in his head as he let his eyes linger on her, knowing she could probably see him staring in her peripheral. If she wasn't thrilled about him seeing her portfolio, perhaps there was more hiding in that sketchbook than just cutesy cartoons. It could be amusing for him and Stu to explore her place once they found out where she lived, hunting for more art she wasn't ready to showcase while they scoped out their new potential victim. If the glimpses of what he saw when she had flipped through it implied there was anything more beneath her vanilla exterior, Billy was confident that he and Stu could uncover it.

As the bell rang, she turned to him with what he'd call friendly eyes, the strange demeanor now gone, "Are you hungry or what? Is the cafeteria food at Woodsboro High edible or would I be better off hunting a bird?"

He huffed, "You'd be better off starving." Nodding towards the door, he started towards it, hardly waiting for ____ to collect her bag, "Maybe Randy will be enough of a simp to offer you whatever his mommy made for him."

Noticing the disdain Billy seemed to have for Randy's mother but feeling too tentative about the potential for conflict to ask more about it, ____ decided to leave it alone and hurry after him into the now bustling hallway.

When Marvel does their inevitable reboot of the X-Men movie series, I’m lowkey wondering if they’ll consider bringing back the actors from the Fox X-Men series due to audience recognition. Maybe some will get recast, but I can see a few actors being brought back (namely Channing Tatum since he barely got to play Gambit and audiences seemed to like him). They’ve already shown a desire to bring back the Fox cast through Deadpool and Wolverine.

Of course, you’ll have the diehard fans wondering how that’s gonna work since multiverse/timeline stuff, but honestly, there’s an easy way to work around that issue. Marvel Studios could literally just do what they did with Worst Wolverine and say, “Yeah, we brought back the Fox actors, but they’re playing an alternate universe version of their original character so we don’t have to rely on the Fox timeline.” And we know that’s not a dealbreaker for audiences since Worst Wolverine was well-received, especially since Hugh got to wear the comic accurate suit.

And also, there’s another incentive to bringing back the Fox cast. Since age is a potential issue (Hugh’s 55 now and I’m sure Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are tired of playing Charles and Erik), bringing back certain actors would make sense since they’re young and could portray their respective character for several more years. I’m mostly thinking about Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Scott Summers, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Kurt Wagner.

Anyways, those are just my thoughts. We’re still a few years off from any X-Men reboot anyways, but it’s still something I’m curious as to how they’ll handle it.

EDIT: oh, forgot another incentive. Saves time from having to go through the casting process.

Maybe I’ve been a bit spoiled but after finally getting Channing Tatum’s absolutely stellar Gambit perfomance, I kind of hate Gambit in X-men origins wolverine.

I feel like they were a lot more worried about aesthetics than character building with that film, I mean, they did Wade dirty as well.

However it does add a few fun and gut wrenching details. Like

-how absolutely heartbroken Victor probably was when his little brother didn’t recognize him.

-how Logan and Scott crossed paths early on but neither one remembers because Logan loses his memory and Scott never actually sees Logan.

-how Logan has trust issues based on very real trauma that had become basic instinct so they remain even when his memories are gone.

-how Logan has always been a softie deep down and how in character it was for him to adopt Rouge after find her stowed away.

And that’s pretty cool

The world is comprised of multiple regions, each boasting unique environments for players to explore and experience on their adventure.

Gold Saucer

Referred to as the gilded paradise, the Gold Saucer is a resplendent amusement park on an epic scale. It is divided into seven areas, called “squares,” each with their own unique attractions. One such is the Skywheel, which takes guests high above the Saucer for an unforgettable view of the park, and has proven to be a popular date spot.

Corel Prison

A sprawling slum that infests the base of the Gold Saucer. It’s almost as if the Saucer’s glimmering façade acts a beacon for vagabonds and ne’er-do-wells the world over, as they have flocked there in droves. So dangerous is the Dustbowl—Corel Prison’s slightly kinder sobriquet–that those who enter its limits are said to never return.

“Who dares disturb my slumber?”

A self-proclaimed “security” guard who hibernates in a coffin deep below Shinra Manor. This man of mystery is swathed in a red cape and boasts the genes of a monster—as well as a hidden connection to Sephiroth.

This rogue pilot of reputable skill runs a shuttle service out of various abandoned airstrips. After Cloud and company flag him down, he flies them around the globe in his beloved Tiny Bronco.

Dyne was once Barret’s closest friend, back when the two used to make their living in the coal mines of Corel. Now, he is a wanted man with a gun grafted to his left arm, and his current whereabouts are unknown.

“As park director, it’s my pleasure to welcome you to our gilded paradise.”

The charismatic owner of the Gold Saucer. Famous for his brawny physique and handlebar mustache, Dio is often found participating in his park’s parades, flexing his muscles before throngs of screaming guests.

Doctor Sheiran (voiced by Lloyd Sherr in English)

“Won’t charge for my services, but I wouldn’t turn down a blood sample neither.”

Though his clinic in North Corel may be small, Doctor Sheiran’s heart and intellect are anything but. Lately, he has been caring for the black-robed figures that have stumbled into town, and is attempting to uncover the truth behind their mysterious illness.

—Bahamut Arisen excels at attacking in rapid succession, but can also obliterate foes with charged magic attacks from its limbs. Once its Umbral Bombardment lands, it releases two orbs of magic that fan out and annihilate all surrounding enemies.

—When it leaves the battlefield, Bahamut Arisen activates Gigaflare—an extremely potent attack that sees the dragon unleash beams of magic from its wings and maw, burning any nearby foes alive.

Phoenix

A bird possessed of exquisite beauty and wings of brilliant flame. Phoenix not only flies about the battlefield assailing foes with its blisteringly hot attacks, but also heals the party’s wounds.

—In addition to engulfing enemies in flames with its wings of wildfire, Phoenix can grant buffs with healing effects. It can also revive incapacitated allies and fully recover their HP with Arise, allowing them to return to the front line and continue the fight.

—When it departs the field of battle, Phoenix unleashes Rebirth Flame, which recovers the party’s HP and spells a fiery death any foes within its wide range. A single feather falls from Phoenix’s wings, enveloping the battlefield in burning flames, after which the bird rises from the cinders to deal the final blow.

Cloud’s actions and the way he responds to other party members while conversing with them will affect his relationship with them.

A theatrical production based on the classic epic poem Loveless.

It depicts a hero’s fight against the Dragon King, the tyrannical ruler of Guardia, as well as his love for Princess Rosa.

Thanks to the latest in VR technology, the Gold Saucer’s Golden Theatre brings this play to life like never before. Depending on your relationship with your fellow theatergoers, the person playing Rosa may even change—along with parts of the script.

Ok, finally watched Deadpool and Wolverine. Thoughts:

spoilers ahead

Things I liked:

-Cavillrine. Wade should've name dropped "those shitfucks down the street" as warner bros execs specifically but I know it wasn't viable. Henry you're my true superman (and Geralt) forever.

-Hugh Jackman, obviously. He always puts his everything into this character and it's beautiful.

-Backstreet boys' Bye bye bye in the beginning (cheeky nod to Wade swinging both ways? Or all the ways actually)

-Soundtrack in general. I have the impression that they tried to use songs that were popular at the time the fox films they referenced were released and that was sweet. Pure nostalgia.

-Is it just me or the fights between Logan and Wade felt a lot bit homoerotic at times? Especially the car fight. Not just the coreography but like.. the camera slowly panning away while showing the car shaking up and down as the daylight fades? Like, damn. okay. I see what you did there..

That and the other little moments where they weren't fighting but were in close proximity/contact with each other bc reasons. Good job u guys. 10/10 👍🏼

-X23. I'd really like to see her back as the main timeline x23 but i don't trust Disney to not fuck this up.

-All the cameos really. Channing Tatum was avenged too by finally being able to play gambit which is good tho I wish he had the black and red eyes from the cartoons that would've been cool. But yeah he was really funny. (My fancast for main timeline Gambit is still Josh Hartnett tho, that being said Channing was still a good Remy)

-Cassandra was a nice surprise, I didn't know that character or the actress and she made a surprisingly fun creepy villain.

Things I didn't like or threw me off bc im too much of a nerd to not notice:

-Vanessa being fridged without actually being fridged. She was in this movie even less than in the movie where she got killed?Someone really "didn't want to share the spotlight" this time lol

-No but seriously, the reason they broke up wasn't clear/didn't make much sense to me, although I have to praise the acting. I think they just wanted an excuse to make Wade spiral again but they don't know what to do with a no-powers character in a superhero movie unless they're a male comic relief?

-The staples on the head gag. It was funny at first but. regenerative powers. His body should have pushed them out at most a couple seconds after, like it does with bullets. They could still have made a joke out of it.

-And I actually only realized this after watching the film but shouldn't Wolverine also not be able to get drunk bc of his powers? In Deadpool's game Wade can't get drunk bc of exactly bc of that and in Catfa Steve can't get drunk while mourning Bucky for the same reason. And I'm pretty sure his regenerative powers are pretty mild compared to Logan and Wade's.

-They missed a chance to throw in a zip it Mr Darcy. or Tom. Both would've worked. Personally I'm partial to Mr Darcy cause I'm a 2005 p&p stan and I haven't watched Succession yet but yk either would've been good.

-A lil peck between Yukio and Negasonic would've been nice 🥺

-Things I wished would've happened even though most of it can't bc Disney, but a girl can still daydream dammit:

-T-rex-pool

-Mention of Logan being poly with Jean and Scott (it's my hc regardless)

-Pyro having had a enemies to enemies who fuck thing with Iceman at an earlier point in time (also my hc regardless)

-Mention of how ooc and creepy and completely nonsensical cap's "ending" was.

-Mention of Stucky

-The tva actually being evil

-Domino. I miss her. Actually all the X-Force members that were missing except for the vanisher for obvious reasons. Fuck that guy. My hc is that Wade saved all of them anyway. Except for, again, the vanisher.

-The timelines get fixed to keep existing when their franchises die. They keep on going we just don't see them anymore. I think implying that they die when hollywood doesn't make movies about them/they are not canon anymore is dismissive of fanworks. The multiverse should be infinite and all the stories imagined about a character whether it's "canon" or not exist somewhere no matter how terrible or ridiculous or wonderful it is. We just so happen to get to see only a handful of them in live action.

-Karl Urban as an alternate Wolverine (he's my fancast for the main timeline logan).

-The fact that if Ben Affleck got a subtle jab, Brad Pitt should've gotten 2. Non subtle ones. At all. Idk about you but I think physical abuse is a liiil worse than cheating. Just saying.

-Vanessa having powers. Hear me out: I know that her powers in the comics are basically the same as Mystique's (she's even blue too) BUT they could've made her be like that chick from Heroes that could do anything she saw other people do just by watching them. I would've been different enough from Mystique AND it would've still made sense with her superhero name being Copycat.

-Vanessa and Wade being polyamorous too

Conclusion: I think I might prefer deadpool 2 a juust a tad bit but I still really liked this one :) . It's definitely much better than anything mcu has being releasing lately

Least favourite elvis characters

Good question anon.

Since I haven't fully analyzed all of his movies yet, I'm just gonna the characters from favorite to least favorite for movies I did review.

1: Jodie Tatum

I'm sure some of you are as shocked as I am that this almost universally panned film gave me the best Elvis character so far. Jodie when you really look at his character is the perfect main character to have in an Elvis movie. As much as I typically despise the cocky, womanizing jock type character, Jodie managed to have all of those character traits and not be annoying. Just by looking at his scenes alone you can write a completely new movie where he's the main character and you would have a significantly better movie. Everything you need to write a movie about a young man learning to become humble and set aside his differences with someone he doesn't stand for the purpose of achieving a common goal of uniting two worlds through marriage is right there. Saying that a side character genuinely deserves their own movie more than the actual main character is the ultimate compliment.

2: Deke Rivers

It was so hard to pick between my number 1 and number 2. As much as I love Deke as a character, unless you want to write about him before the events of the movie or expand on what happened during the movie, Deke doesn't have that much potential for a story. His character arc is complete and he went through the most change out of any Elvis character. There just isn't really that much left to his story where you go "I want to see a sequel and see what happens next."

3: Scott Heyward

This is the best character writing out of all of the cheap to make era Elvis films so far. Scott has actual depth by not wanting to use nepotism to get everything he wants in life. Scott acknowledges that he's in fact privileged but doesn't use that as an excuse to lord over the lower classes. As much as he admittedly doesn't understand having to make a dollar stretch and wanting to have a comfortable lifestyle, he doesn't shame Dianne for doing what she does. The only thing keeping him from being #1 is that it seems out of character for him to want to be with Dianne on a romantic level since she's actively doing the one thing he wanted to get away from. Unless we have a character arc explaining what changed, it just doesn't make sense.

4: Walter Gulick

I admit that Walter doesn't have much of a character arc. But that doesn't matter to me, because the appeal of his character is his relationships with others. He's in the cynical world of boxing, but still has a wholesome outlook on life. Watching him interact with the done with life New Yorkers is incredible. Even though he knows they look at him strangely, he still has a high level of respect for not only the men but also women. It's honestly incredible that Walter isn't once tempted to be with anyone but Rose. Just a wholesome character with a good moral code and shows that not every character needs to have a significant flaw to be interesting.

5: Vince Everett

As much as I find him unlikeable, I think his character has a lot of fanfic potential. Seeing this otherwise everyday man's fall from grace, become one of the hottest artists in America then suffer a possibly career ending, life-threatening injury is such a wild ride. You can easily write introspective stories on why he became a jerk, how he felt when he though he lost everything, and see if his relationship with Peggy will work out.

6: Rusty Wells

Definitely a dark horse of an Elvis character. I wasn't expecting to like him as much as I did. In the first half I thought he was just going to be somewhat of a Tulsa. But once he got in a bar fight with drunken frat boys just to keep Valerie out of trouble, he immediately became way more interesting. The face he makes when one of his band mates ask him about Valerie is so telling. He genuinely cares about Valerie's well-being. And watching the process of seeing this flirtatious man genuinely fall in love and want to stay in a committed relationship is a pretty good character arc for a cheap to make beach film.

7: Clint Reno

I would've been perfectly fine with his character but the last 20 minutes of the movie or so has him go completely off the rails. Him losing his mind about Cathy potentially cheating on him can work as long as it's written well. Given his perceived age there's plenty of ways you can write this concept that shows a different side of Clint without making him completely switch to the "villains" side.

8: Charlie Rogers

Had all the potential of being a great character yet the writers completely dog on him. As much as he has flaws, I genuinely couldn't care because everyone else in his movie were much, much worse. Him wanting to go back to the carnival makes no sense because of how terrible he was treated. I think if done well he can be an interesting character.

9: Glenn Tyler

As much as I like the backstory and think he has the potential of being an amazing character, I don't think his story was handled well. Some of the decisions that he made don't feel like they fit with his character. He doesn't really love a lot of room to write introspective stories since we already have a full idea of why he's the way he is.

10: Mike Edwards

I really like his dynamic with Sue-Lin. It adds a level of depth that makes an otherwise generic nice guy interesting. Even though he doesn't have a character arc, the conflict that he's put in is so engaging. This conflict doesn't end with him learning a lesson, but it allows him to show a different skillset that otherwise wouldn't exist. I still believe that his romance plot with Nurse Warren wasn't necessary but at least it still shows how not everyone who goes through an unexpected conflict end up having a complete transformation.

11: Tulsa McLean

Tulsa is just a generic main character. He does have some comedic moments where he's sassy with his superior officer and "Tiger". Him being of Native American descent and having a lot of experience with women doesn't really add anything to his character. At least he does have a specific goal and the romance he has with Lili gives him an interesting conflict.

12: Rick Richards

I just don't think he's a memorable character. The conflict he faces is a result of his own actions but it really doesn't matter because he doesn't learn anything. His romance is so much of an afterthought that they don't even kiss until the very end. We get more of a focus on the people he used to be with than focusing on him overcoming that past. You get more invested in the Hawaiian background and the Polynesian Culture Center than you do with him.

13: Josh Morgan

The most boring Elvis character. His only goal isn't even his own: it's the Air Force who wanted him to go to the mountain. We don't learn anything about him outside of his distant relation to the Tatum family. His romance with Azalea doesn't give us any interesting dynamics and just feels pointless. He is a completely nothing character to the point where he shouldn't even be a main character.

I saw a tweet and comments made by some critics online that severely annoyed me again so I’m here to rant about it 🙈😆.

Chris filmed three movies this year. All three of these movies are smaller scale, most of them probably aren’t even on the industry radar in terms of anticipated. They’re not being lauded as such either. They’re smaller and more niche and also interesting. Critics ignore this and continue to harp on R1 over and over and I’m like…girl who hurt you???

Chris’s career outside the MCU has mostly been about doing smaller scale indie projects. Outside of lightyear, he hasn’t joined any existing franchise sequels, IPs, or even any reboot franchises.

Gray man was a one off. (Well with hopes to be something more but again, that’s a Russos Netflix and Ryan gosling thing to worry about. Chris’s character died onscreen so obviously he wasn’t doing it to be added onto to a franchise)

Pain hustlers was a one off.

Ghosted a one off.

Fly me to the moon was supposed to be his role but got transitioned to Channing Tatum.

Red one was an original story with hopes to expand potentially but still a new story with no existing IP to draw from. The franchise talk would have been for the rock and maybe JK, not Chris.

Yet this Twitter account and some fans and critics are acting like Chris is only choosing roles that he thinks can make him money via a big paycheck and not paying attention to art. I’m like…have you seen the rest of this industry? Every single big movie this year is a sequel or existing IP or remake. wtf do you mean then??

I am tired. Chris has every right to choose the projects he desires and he does not owe anyone an explanation for why he does not seem to go for “awards bait” or serious films with Oscar potential.

And let’s be honest, the projects he has chosen that HAD award potential have historically gone ignored or been paid dust.

So he is doing what he wants. How is doing a smaller scale indie film with a new director (Romain) mean he has nowhere to go but marvel? How are these criticisms fair?

I’ve been POed at the industry hate for red one and it’s been bothering me like no other because the Rock too has been ridiculed for months and the industry won’t seem to let him and Chris (by a lesser extension) forget it. Like we get it. You hate the movie and you’re mad it got made. But talk to seven bucks and Amazon about it. Talk to every big studio that continues to fund these projects and ignore the smaller indie films with quality and then we can talk. Blaming Chris for existing isn’t going to help small films get made and popcorn BS stop getting made.

FWIW, Red One is STILL making money. The audiences are generally loving it and it got an A minus cinema score and people are actually still showing up despite the critics bashing and the fact they have Moana 2, Gladiator, wicked, and now fifty other films to choose from. Just because somebody didn’t like this film does not mean it’s a complete failure and that makes it Chris’s fault.

Also…returning to marvel. Okay, so everyone else is allowed to return to marvel and continue to work with marvel but Chris. Is that it? Was he supposed to just leave after endgame and then go on and win awards and that was his only option?? Why isn’t he doing better or where he should be? Well why does the industry always ignore him for virtually everything he has done? He did just as much to create the MCU legacy as RDJ. But RDJ is the one they wanted to treat like a king. Chris is always tossed to the side and you want people to wonder why he doesn’t try harder to make himself be seen differently? Scott pilgrim takes off won a critics choice award. It’s a smaller project but it was a passion project for both Edgar, the creators, and the live action cast. It paid off for everyone and the fans and they don’t want to milk it more so no plans to do a season 2. The same thing for Defending Jacob. Chris has always shown he’s passionate about things that interest him and if he’s allowed to make some extra cash, why not?

Most of these people don’t even think he’s capable of awards anyway so why are so many always whining about how he’s not doing things that can get him awards? Calling him lazy and worthless when literally he’s done three movies this year and he was promoting red one at the same time.

It’s so ridiculous to me.

You know I've had this conversation a lot recently. I really want to know why Chris is held to an impossible standard when it comes to his movie roles. People act as if he has the cure to cancer, and refuses to let anyone have it, and he's just acting. We don't know why he chooses the roles he does, nor is it our business. Chris is carving out his career.

He's never struck me as someone who wanted to make mostly award bait movies. There's nothing wrong with an actor who does choose to do that, just like there's nothing wrong with Chris' career path. As someone who is a Sebastian AND Chris fan, I can acknowledge the vast differences between these actors, even though too many want to pit them against each other. I've also said that I find Chris' movies to be a bit easier to rewatch than Seb's. And that's not taking away from his talent. I think Seb is probably one of the best actors of his generation. But I don't have a strong urge to rewatch Fresh or The Devil All the Time.

I don't see too many people criticizing Tom Cruise's movie choices, and how he always returns to Mission Impossible. How many failed movies has he had? What about Channing Tatum? Or even Ryan Reynolds? Are all his movies the best movie of the year? And yest constantly Chris is held to this standard that nobody could sustain. It's weird. And I promise you, Red One is not the worst movie of the year. Not by a long shot. But hey, sometimes it takes talent to have actual lines of dialogue.
