I bought ‘Tarka The Otter’ in a second-hand bookshop as it is an incredible book (if you haven’t read it, do so NOW) and it reminds me of my late, great step-father David Cobham, who directed the tear-inducing, faithful film adaptation. And there inside were newspaper clippings of Tony Curtis. Delightfully random. . #TonyCurtis #random #book #bookstagram #Tarka #TarkaTheOtter #otter #HenryWilliamson #DavidCobham #wildlife #nature https://www.instagram.com/p/ColDExtsBVD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

most raccoons have the instinct to swim and even enjoy it, but i suspect all of rocket's augmentations weigh him down in the water. to make a raccoon body stand and move like a human body requires so many pins and plates, new bones, osteotomies. but when we see lylla in vol 3, it really looks like only her arms have been altered (as far as her skeletal/muscular system goes), and otters don't appear to use their arms much for swimming. i like to believe she retains her aquatic abilities.
Tumblr media
in another universe, a kinder timeline, i like to think lylla survives. maybe she and rocket escape at the same time, or they find each other later. she has a little den on a nicer part of morag, or aladna, or tarka. i like to think she convinces him to wade in the shallow water while she plays, and teases him for looking like a drowned f'saki when his fur gets all wet (because lets face it, otter-fur withstands the water a little better than raccoon-fur). but afterward, even though he’s so much bigger than her now, she curls him up in her arms like he's just a little baby otter pup, and floats him on her belly while they watch the clouds or doze under the stars, and the sky is beautiful and forever above them.

Did you know that Sailor Moon utilized Stock Library Music by Western Composers?
I'm not just talking about Classical Music like when the Silver Millenium is raized to the ground or when they went ice skating.
When Kaolinite goes on the attack in episode 102, the music, Symmetry Of Spirit by Anthony and Gaynor Sadler, plays: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNrYLenVNlA
When Kunzite corrupts the tower and Zoisite tries to off Usagi and Mamoru, Summit of Power by Anthony Phillips and Harry Williamson plays: https://youtu.be/mNrYLenVNlA?si=g6rUt35OIdgjkS2b&t=1719
It plays again in Sailor Moon S when Dr. Tomoe plays it on the record player that he infuses with a Daimon egg.
It was even feature in Tarka The Otter, a family film about, well, an otter named Tarka: https://youtu.be/rDxgIFDEGcA?si=kvyOtzdP91gG1ODp&t=1708
The reveal of Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion is set to this etherial piece, composed by Geoff Leech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9Z2g7_Yk54
The same episode has this music play when Artemis recounts his restored memories of the Silver Millenium, composed by David Rogers and Paul Shaw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owvMXenhitY
This heartbreaking piece played when Luna cried out for Sailor Moon to not sacrifice herself despite the world needing the Silver Crystal, as composed by Jan Pulsford: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=005oZtn0kk8
There's likely other I hadn't found but it's fascinating that they went with these tracks rather than utilize a piece as composed by Takanori Arisawa that would've gotta the job done just as well. I ponder why and if anybody here has any idea. Was this done for any other Anime at the time or now?
It is cool though. That while Anime is seen as this foreign thing, alien to us in the west, a lot of titles took inspiration from other countries and even shared in our music. Cross-cultural moments are nice to hear about.

Heads Up Seven Up Tag
Thanks for tagging me, @ahordeofwasps and @sam-glade! :D
Here's the latest snippet from Uneasy Money:
Helena the First managed to look even more disapproving, which shouldn't have been possible. "Who or what is Tarka? Your horse?" "Of course not! My sister." Gilbert rolled his eyes. "Don't look at me like that. It's a better nickname than what you call your sister." "Goody-two-shoes isn't a nickname, it's a description. And where on earth did you get that ghastly name?" "From a book," Helena the Second snapped. "Anyway, one of us needs a nickname. We can't have two Helenas in one house."
(Out of universe, of course, Helena the Second's nickname comes from Tarka the Otter. In-universe, since Uneasy Money is set in 1919 and Tarka was published in 1927... well, just assume Helena gets her nickname from a non-existent earlier book. Or maybe time-travel is involved.)
Tagging @eccaiia, @lightgriffinsect, @sarandipitywrites, @emelkae, and anyone else who wants to do this! :D

And so. You asked about books.I can recommend the books by Jack London "White Fang" and "The Call of the Wild". These are fictional books about dogs / wolves that are drawn to freedom, to their true nature. There is also a book about an otter that you will be interested in. So this book "Tarka the Otter: His Joyful Water-Life and Death in the Country of the Two Rivers. This book was written by Henry Williamson. If you find it difficult to read, then you can watch the film adaptations.
thanks!!! i think i read White Fang in middle school. wolves are pretty cool but they kind of scare me too. maybe i will read those books. ttyl!

what's your favorite book?
Ooh, this is a hard one! I have too many favourite books!
Certainly my favourite-books list would include (in no particular order) Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion, Wishtress, Tarka the Otter, every Narnia book, Perelandra, Out of the Silent Planet, every Anne book with the exception of TBAQ bc I haven't read it, A Grief Observed, the Flicka trilogy, the Jacobite trilogy, The Yellow Poppy, Watership Down, Jane Eyre
uhhhh that might be it......
actually adding A Time To Hear to that list bc that book specifically is fantastic (so are the other two in the first trilogy, but the first one is the best of them all)
Ask me why I love any or all of those books if you like :)

Matisse in the Studio – Royal Academy Well, would you believe it? Henri Matisse owned a pewter jug, an Andalusian glass vase, a chocolate pot and a replica of a beautiful Venetian rococo chair – treasured possessions all. They made unusual and interesting shapes and, well, he included them in many of his still lives. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the point of a still life is to take some everyday…
