The Clarkes haunting the narrative is THE point
The following was a response to the idea that the prologue and end hold little hope back that ended up being way longer than intended, no shade on the person who said that I just realised that I didn't want to drop a whole essay on them, so without any more preamble:
Truthfully I am completely disinterested in making Little Hope more palatable to people who require the story's soul to be torn out to enjoy it because that's what the beginning and ending is. The broken heart of little hope.
That said I very much love the middle too but the Clarke family's story is the heart and soul of little hope and the whole point, otherwise why does anything in the town matter? Vince? Just some dude, the subplot of the town falling apart, being in the literal wreckage of 1970s era Little Hope? Random set dressing because a straight up three century old ruin of a town would just lack the infrastructure required to have the facade of searching for help in town… So many of the secrets are about them, you straight up spend a good chunk of the runtime passively learning about the individual family members both in private and public and even though I think some people choose the shallowest reading out of spite it is very deliberately stated that there is an element of choice in interpretation, the curator says so at the start. The more praised facets would be greatly diminished without the Clarkes, the subtextual nature of overcoming your demons gives meaning to the outright textual fighting of demonic monsters and the parallels would not be as strong between the 2020 and 1692 eras alone.
It is a common mistake that there are better or worse versions of the characters but it's simply not true as they are all different aspects and much like a triangle needs three points the cast of little hope needs all three points of reference to fully appreciate their stories. My earliest read of Little Hope centred on Anthony recontextualising his family in two divergent ways, 1692 where they are presented as victims of circumstance and 2020 where they are more deliberately flawed people who must overcome their demons because the truth is that both things are true of the Clarkes and so they are separated out into their different aspects and analysed accordingly.
Angela's characterisation doesn't work exclusively compared to Amy, her story of fighting for her agency doesn't land the same without Anne, Amy on paper is a woman who did everything right bar being too harsh to a child and was killed for it, Angela is a woman burnt by her past yet soldering on and still retains the same flaw of blaming the child, where as Anne being a snowed under house wife who struggles with keeping her family together and feels like she has zero agency in her situation and all the while fails to understand the perspectives of the very people she feels responsible for is the context between Amy the beloved wife who is wrongfully accused and uses her one bit of agency to place mistaken blame on Mary and Angela who refuses to rely on or believe in anyone or anything, the fact that she's divorced and starting over in her late forties does not work when only compared to the wholesome yet tragic Lamberts who's marriage is never depicted in the negative to justify Angela's divorce. She'd appear as a nearly fully different person for no reason without Anne to bridge the gap and make their depictions consistent, without the 1970s it just looks like she's angry at her husband for failing to save her despite his best efforts and that severely damages her character and arc.
Connected to that, J places his trust in the wrong places, delegates, blame shifts and runs from facing the bigger problem, the alcoholism is emblematic of this but the refusal to see the truth about M's innocence and place responsibility at the feet of the proper authority because he'd have to confront his misplaced faith requires all three, Joseph failing to his dying breath to understand Mary's innocence and James getting blackout drunk over the stress of problems he finds insurmountable are necessary context to John's sobriety and further arc and John being a recovering alcoholic would just be flavour text without the harsh sting of how addiction colours James.
Daylor wouldn't lose its questionable reading if they were only siblings in 50% of other eras instead of two thirds but Dennis expressing his frustration at Tanya pulling away contextualises their codependency and mutual need to be needed in a way that is incomplete, you see a couple in the early stages of dating and siblings who got killed three hundred years prior, the 70s contextualise T's need for stability and dependability and her survival instincts pushing her to flee and D's arrested development in the way he struggles to function when they aren't a unit, beyond that David and Tabitha care for Mary together in Amy's trial scene and after her death he doesn't even fight his own execution, not even to continue the task of raising his only remaining orphand sister alone, this isn't to say David doesn't love Mary as he blatantly shows care for her in not wanting her to be traumatised by his death but he simply falls apart without Tabitha and Dennis being the way he is when Tanya is pulling away from the family shows a lower stakes, longer depiction of that breaking down but she's still physically there so it isn't collapsing in grief, it's the simmering resentment of feeling like a person you care for isn't prioritising you reciprocally, these feelings aren't wrong in of themselves but they aren't pretty and Daniel's outbursts and more negative dialogue choices and David's quiet grief don't capture the way that feeling of being stabbed a million times over everything time you aren't the first choice but the other person didn't wrong you by choosing differently so there is no proper way to get that out feels. D is often mistaken as a shallow generically decent guy with a random angry iteration that doesn't fit into a boring whole but it's simply not the case, him proving he can be reliable in 2020, his fight against his various insecurities is something he needs to do for himself as much as T, the others aren't better adjusted or better people compared to Dennis, their circumstances just present entirely differently.
Furthermore Taylor feeling like an outsider doesn't work alone with Tabitha being part of a family unit, I've seen it misinterpreted as Taylor being less proactive than her counterparts but the truth is that T's behaviour is characterised by survival instinct and a need for stability, Tabitha realises something is wrong after the first death and attempts to protect Mary but counsels keeping their heads down, Taylor being vocally in favour of staying put and Tanya's quiet desperation to get away from everything are not opposite but different flavors of the same base needs, Tanya legitimately being a practising witch adds a layer between the other two versions, Tanya appears very conventional despite her secret unconventional beliefs and Taylor is the inverse being visually the most nonconforming member of the cast while her desire for a knight in shining armour is very traditional in its own way, pair this with the straight forward trial of Tabitha and you get an exploration of not going with the first assumptions that blankets the rest of the narrative.
Carver is a great antagonist all his own but without 1972 there is no broader context, and even if you still have that era but not the Clarkes it would just be "this guy's bloodline remained assholes for centuries" and not the direct parallel to Carson, there is no canonical 2020 equivalent to his character yet he haunts the narrative beyond himself, judge wyman intentionally mirrors the passing neighbour who immediately demanded to know what Anthony had done when the matchbox is revealed, the accusatory paranoid hysteria of puritan little hope and Anthony's poor treatment after the death of his family are directly connected and that's the point, Melissa is there to bring the conversation about the little girl's guilt or innocence to the forefront in a way that makes it a present plotline that goes beyond Mary and brings in the nature that the past is reflected in other eras and without Megan you lose a lot, Melissa requires her context in a way that Mary alone doesn't achieve and Abraham and Andrew's decision on the matter is in fact a question over Anthony's guilt and his internal struggle between blaming himself and blaming Megan and the further grief around this unresolved guilt to the point where he was psychologically unable to process the death of his family for nearly fifty years is the point, the whole point, of the 1692 reframing.
the Clarke family haunts every aspect of Little Hope and without the ending it would be pointless, the way their deaths hang over everything to the point where the puritan versions are doomed to die in the same way they were already depicted as dying and the way an engaged person would quickly catch on that 1972 death=1692 death and therefore 2020 character faces the same fate, it would be meaningless without the Clarke tragedy, it would simply be shock value that builds towards nothing without the ending and the ending doesn't make the game any less about the other eras because they are one and the same in every way that matters.

fav light novel only characters? like not animated or drawn in the manga yet
So this has been in my inbox for a couple months now and I think I can finally confidently answer it bc I have a couple of characters who I wanna talk about.
Spoiler warning: Due to this ask being related to characters only seen in the light novel there’s going to be spoilers under the read more! I talk about content as far ahead as novel 11. I think we’re safe on stuff from 12 tho!
If you want a no-spoiler summary: Colonel Calandro (not depicted here), Counselor Conrad, and Major Joachim
OK SO,
I think the main two that I like the most and are LN-Only so far are Colonel Calandro from Ildoa, who is the observer that ends up attached to the Salamander/Lergen Kampfgruppe on the eastern front and Counselor Conrad, the imperial diplomat that Lergen talks with a lot.
In Calandro’s case, he’s introduced I believe as early as book 6, so I think he’s probably the one of my favorites who is most likely to be in season 2, so I hope Studio Nut does well by him with a good design. In the sketches above, I decided against trying to make a design for him because 1) I got no ideas man and 2) I think (hope) he might show up in the anime soon so I’d like to hold off on drawing him until there’s an official one.
Anyway, a lot of his scenes are great when he’s attached to the Kampfgruppe. If I recall correctly, there’s this scene in one of the books (Book 7?) where he’s talking to Tanya as she’s making preparations to bombard what is obviously a church and he’s like “What are you doing? Isn’t that a war crime?” And Tanya just goes “No, no, it’s fine. They’re not openly displaying anywhere that this is a building used for religious purposes and even if they were, the other side hasn’t signed that treaty so it’s not like we have to adhere to it if they won’t.”
It’s such a funny scene. Tanya’s like, “Oh he’s concerned that we’re committing a crime. I should assuage him by telling him not to worry, we’ve managed to legally justify it.” And instead of any relief he’s just like “Oh my god what the fuck is wrong with them? Why would they ever think to circumvent treaties like this?”
They're funny as hell together and Tanya’s constant griping that she has to babysit him is so good, I hope we get to see it.
Also also a good scene with him is from the end of LN11 where Lergen calls him in the middle of the night, demanding to speak to him because it’s of vital importance. That ensuing conversation where Lergen’s basically like “I can’t say who’s calling, but you recognize me from the sound of my voice, right? Something’s going to happen. I’m really sorry, I can’t say anything more. Please just remember that I called, okay?” I’m so sorry… but it’s giving ‘Tragic Lovers Doomed To Breakup By Circumstances They Can’t Control’ vibes.
It is now my firmly set headcanon that Lergen and Calandro were lovers throughout and in spite of the war and when the time came for Lergen to choose whether to betray Calandro or his country, he chose to betray Calandro, something he feels immensely guilty about. I know it isn’t what Carlo Zen was trying to convey at ALL, but unfortunately that’s what I got from it. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk, moving on.
I guess next up is Counselor Conrad, the Empire’s diplomat who we first meet in LN10 I think? If we don’t get any content of him, I’ll literally cry. Depending on how far season 2 gets us in the story, we may not end up seeing Conrad and that’s so sad to me. There is a scene from LN10 that I absolutely need adapted into the anime. It’s like 160ish pages in. It’s that scene where Tanya, Lergen, and Conrad are talking with each other and Conrad turns to Lergen and gestures at Tanya and says “How did you raise this?” and Tanya’s like “????”
There is another scene where Lergen describes Conrad as handsome, and because of these two scenes, the delusional headcanon has sprung up that these two eventually end up in a relationship and Tanya is their daughter. I’ve mentioned it in another post. A friend of mine actually talks about Conrad (& Lergen and Tanya) in more detail in her post here. And hey, while I’m recommending posts about Conrad, look at all of these too okay?
Conrad actually has an official design in the novel artworks, so I based my above sketch around that. Here are the few canon images we have of him. Interestingly, in the text he's described as having blue eyes at some point, but the colored version we have has them as brown. These drawings come from Books 10 & 11 I believe?
Ok, last one, for minor characters, there’s Major Joachim who we meet around the end of LN11, who becomes Lergen’s subordinate. I think the best way to describe him is that he’s kind of a boyfailure in the way that Grantz is (that is to say before Grantz got some character development and became somewhat competent). He’s a cutie, I do hope we get some scenes of him.
I did actually do a little sketch of Joachim as we saw above. That one for some reason just came to me very easily, unlike Calandro. Here was my prelim sketch idea:
And I think that’s about it for now. If you note that all of these characters are in some way related to Lergen, um… Well, I can’t help myself really. We know by now he’s one of my favorites so I like characters associated with him too.

You brought up the idea of spider-kate ONCE, and my brain took it and ran with it, so I gift thee some chibi spider-kate shenanigans
[I imagine her lil ponytail thru the mask helps emote better with movement, excited? It sways like idk dog tail]
WHAT-
I can´t deal-
THAT´S SO DOPE!!!
THE WEBS-
THE PONYTAIL-
THE WEBS-
Not Kate casually snatching MC up and glueing her to the CEILING so she can´t get away. 😭💀
(Which is totes smt she would do btw.)
Now I can´t not imagine Kate just going like-
(We´ll keep the shirtless part ofc.)
*zip*
"Not so fast, lil spitfire..."
YKNOW-
Driving Tanya nuts-
...
And, before you know it, you´ve got a house full of vampires (well, two) shooting spiderwebs out of god-knows-where. It´s pure chaos. 💀
Can you imagine poor CARMEN??
Carmen: *takes in her collectibles and all the other stuff she has acquired over the years, all of it now covered in thick spiderwebs*
Carmen: *eye starts twitching* (bad sign)
Carmen: *takes a deep breath* (very bad sign)
Carmen, at the top of her lungs (which is entirely unnecessary since they´re all vampires and that makes it fucking scary cause she does it solely for intimidation purposes): "...GIIIIIRLS!"
...
Tanya & Kate, somewhere in the house: 💀
*funeral march starts playing*
ASKFJBASKBASLKF
.
.
.
Spider-Kate is so damn precious though. 🕷️🥹
Her song would probs be smt like:
Spider-Kate, Spider-Kate One of her webs will seal your fate Spider-Kate, Spider-Kate Catches you and takes you on a date.
.
Listen-
I hate spiders with a passion.
But that is one spider I wouldn´t mind crawling all over me. I´d love to get tangled in those webs-

I started Afterlove by Tanya Byrne last night, cuz apparently the only genre holding my attention this month is YA romance, and it's cool. But the author made a choice with the story structure, and the choice is making me bored.
Basically, Ashana meets and falls in love with a girl. She's a fall fast, fall hard person, and I can see people bitching about insta-love, but imo I think insta-love can be done right and it is realistic. Some people are just Like That (I know, I'm one such person.) The story opens with Ashana dead and doing her new job as a Reaper. Then we switch to the last few months she was alive, and the author is really beating into the reader's head how in love she is, how she can finally see her future, how excited for that future she is, etc.
The goal (I assume) is to make it a lot more painful when she dies, or have that underlying sense of dread knowing that none of this will happen. But because we open the story with her already dead, this doesn't feel nearly as impactful as it would if we didn't know she was going to die. And it's going on and on to the point that I've been skimming the last like 15 pages. We're mostly in her head with some breaks for dialogue, so it's like "okay okay I get it, can we move on with the plot now?" And I understand and appreciate the author wanting to establish their relationship thoroughly before yanking it away, then bringing Poppy (the girlfriend) back in, but please. It's been 116 pages. As bad as this sounds, I'm ready for her to die. I'm ready for the next stage of the plot.
I do genuinely like this book, but it's dragging in the depths of the main character's introspection. I want the Reaper part of the story to start!
Speaking of Reapers, I also started The Keeper of Night by Kylie Lee Baker. Got about 20 pages in before I had to put it down. The combination of the MCs cruelty toward dying humans + the very descriptive cruelty and violent abuse she faced at the hands of other Reapers because she's biracial was so much all at once, and I needed something a little softer. I'll revisit it when I can handle that.

ANIME class of 3000: back to the SING!
My take on the comic dubs of my two comics
I have decided to make TWO comic dubs of my two 'ANIME class of 3000: back to the SING!', And I think I did very good =^.^=
So the first one is the 'teasy Tanya' comic drawing where I even added a small giggle from Tanya at the end and Lil' D slightly groaning in annoyance from Tanya -///-;
The second one is 'Surprise hug from Madison to Kim', And I didnt really add any more quotes or lines ^////^
But I hope y'all will like this =^.^= ♥️💛🧡🩷💖

Time for another ramble.
This time, it's about Arjun, Prince of Bali. Some things that bothered me as an Indo.
Look, I know the show had long ended (with only 3 years of runtime and it has been 7 years since it had ended), but the show is surprisingly underwhelming, and I'm saying this as someone who used to watch some of the episodes that showed on TV (dubbed in Indo obv) when I was younger, and also as someone who's taken the time to watch the episodes in order or not.
Keep in mind, I'm not here to bash the show. I liked this show, because it's actually interesting if you actually took the time to enjoy it. It's just that my overanalyzing ass couldn't stfu, so that's why I'm whipping this up out of my ass. It's my job dawg- ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Names
They lack Indo names. Like, ok. Aci and Ayu are there, and ig Wangi is also there. But like how their names are pronounced are butchered, especially the twins, they're so Americanized in terms of their name pronunciation.
Tanya is questionable cuz that's not even an Indo name. Tanya in Indo means question, and idk wtf came over the king and queen's head thinking naming their child Question is a good idea.
Everyone else had Hindi names.
I'd propose alternative names for Wangi and Tanya (personally, the name Wangi, wrongly pronounced or otherwise is weird, just saying-).
Funnily enough, I've searched up Balinese names, and I read names are supposed to be given depending on their birth order.
Meaning, if Arjun isn't name the way he is, his name could be Wayan due to being a firstborn child.
Tanya could be named Ni Luh, as a firstborn daughter. Yes, she's a second born, which also give her the option of Ni Made. Honestly it depends, it could be either of them, but my point still stands.
And for Wangi, I'd give her the name Bunga instead, meaning flower.
Lack of Indo Language Overall
Look, I know it's an Indian cartoon, but if you're going to put a set in other places other than India, might as well do proper research.
Like, I get it, Balinese is especially a difficult language, and I understand as a Javanese and Maduranese who doesn't understand squat of Java at the slightest.
But at the very least, you could use normal Indo. But then again, I think they'll butcher pronunciation regardless if they did or not, looking how they ruined Aci and Ayu's name.
All I'm saying is that, yes, although the overall language use is Hindi, at the very least, use some Indo words in there, even if it's just a little bit. Music, clothing, and architecture isn't the only thing that should be shown, our language, the local or the country-wide one should be represented as well. But I guess it's hard given that there's literally no Indo person in their team.
I get that Arjun and Tanya are biracial, and Hindi also had the right to be represented even if the setting isn't at India. But my point still stands.
Arjun's Lack of Hair Care
Listen, Arjun probably had the most flawless hair known to mankind, and I think he knows it, so that's why he's embracing it. But the point is, similar way of how Bheem's dhoti never got in the way of his fighting, Arjun's hair also never got in the way of training and fighting.
Realistically, he'd tie it up so his hair won't block his view. But god forbid that times of he did get his eyes blocked from view, it won't because of his hair, more like it's from other things like blowing leaves and flying papers.
I would personally love to see more of Arjun looking like this more.
That hairstyle is equally gorgeous as his free hair. He'd still look girly either way lmfao.
Khojo
Look, he deserve his own column due to reasons.
First and foremost; he's a ginger, so are his father. Having a hair color other than black and brown in Asia is rather unusual unless his father had like a foreign lineage. Not to mention they're weirdly pale as well. I have red on my hair naturally, but he's literally just straight up ginger dawg-
And what is this obsession over getting rid of Arjun so Khojo could become prince instead? Like, I get that Arjun is an heir, but isn't usually if the heir couldn't take over or just no more at all, shouldn't the other borns took over instead? If in the events Arjun is to be eliminated, Tanya would be successor instead. Why would a Minister's kid be appointed as prince instead? Like, I don't know if it works like in other countries (I'm not familiar with Indo royal hierarchy system, much less Bali), but just saying that appointing someone who's not even part of the family as an heir when there's clearly someone else other than the initial heir who could take over and is part of the family.
Take is from Bheem for example; sure, he's not royalty and not even part of the royal family. But he was appointed as a substitute king for a while because both the king and the princess are absent. Bheem is appointed to be king because he's trusted and can protect the kingdom just fine.
Khojo is different, and even if scenario plays in a similar manner but still differs; like if the king and queen ceased to exist anymore, Arjun would assume the throne from the get-go despite how still very young he is. If Arjun is also ceased to exist, Tanya would assume the throne. There's literally no place for Khojo at all, and even if Tanya is also gone, I don't think Khojo or even any of the Ministers are gonna assume the throne regardless, especially Khojo's father. Khojo's father literally once planned of Arjun and Zimmbu's kidnapping and tiger-napping all for the sake of getting his son to the seat of prince, yet that is literally not how it works. Who would even trust the throne to him dawg?? Arjun isn't the only child royalty in the family, Tanya is still there. If Arjun is killed after he got kidnapped, she'll assume to be heir right away.
Oh, and he's trying so hard for Tanya, even though she's not interested. He's so desperate for what?
Now I'm moving onto something I don't really wanna bitch off of, just wanted to point things out and maybe throw some scenarios here and there because I think it's neat.
Arjun As A Girl In Disguise
Tell me if you see this pic out of context, you'd tell me whether this kid is a girl or a boy;
Anyways, my point is, if you give him more feminine clothes and he wears it, 100% he'd be mistaken as a girl. And if situation requires it, he'd effortlessly lie that he is a girl, and no one will suspect shit.
He's not even just androgynous anymore, he's straight up feminine, and I liked it that not all men should all look broad and jacked. They could be feminine asf and still look badass.
Both Arjun and Tanya Represents Arjuna of Mahabarata
Now, what do I mean by that?
We all know Arjuna's personality. Arjun had the exact same personality as Arjuna (hence literally being a spinoff version of Arjuna himself). From enjoying attention, how girls fall for them, even as wielding the same weapons (bow and arrow). I think Arjun represents Arjuna in the warfare aspect.
And where do Tanya fit into this?
See, Tanya is more artistic; she danced and done more things in the arts compared to when she actually did anything relating with combat (mentioning the times she once did archery and another episode where broke into Arjun's room with Wangi to get his weapons to train while Arjun is away). Tanya represents Arjuna who were taught and enjoys dancing and music aspect during the exile.
Now I just want answers to my questions;
Who tf is Sankat? Ik he's also a prince, but I can't tell if he's related to Arjun in some way (I don't understand Hindi)
Why is Wangi even in the forest?
Why is Wangi blue?
That's probably all. If there's more I want to talk about, I'll add it in a reblog.
#arjun prince of bali#Kayetra Spade Queen#Kayetra Rambles#i went insane on this one you could tell#thinking of many scenarios of arjun wearing dresses and fooling everyone everywhere and rocking the dress overall#also thinking about modern au where arjun and tanya moved somewhere fkr studies cuz yes#found a description somewhere in TikTok that someone named Arjun is aiming to be a doctor#and that description came from the arjun prince of bali tag#ik that's prob a diff arjun altogether but it's quite a neat scenario where arjun secretly wanted to be a doctor#but couldn't because he'd feel guilty for his duties#live laugh love arjun in tied up hair#srs tho arjun with tied up hair looked so pretty omfg-#also saying if the show showcased more of the indo or Balinese language low-key arjun would throw some heavy insults with heavy accents

So y'know I've been thinking. In mk x, mileena still has lips in her design, yeah? But from what it looks like in mk 11 and in the mk 1 trailer, mileena is just all teef now. So naturally I thought to myself "well, how does tanya kiss mileena if there's no lips and just teeth?". And then I had an epiphany--she kisses her teeth.
These naturally destructive and powerful fangs, meant for death and war...and she kisses them! Tanya kisses them and mileena realizes that her teeth aren't just meant for instilling fear--they can be loved and revered as well. Something that mileena feels so insecure about, tanya shows that she'll always love it, that her teeth won't change her love.
Just some early morning thoughts for yall!

okay but people whining about the inclusion of words “trans” and “non-binary” in veilguard is so annoying to me. why does it bother you that those words aren’t replaced by some fantasy equivalent while words like “man” and “woman” are used all the time in the setting. why is it fine to say “man” but saying “trans man” breaks your immersion. think really hard about that one.
#‘but qunlat has special words-‘ so what. it has a lot of words that are different from thedas common language! that’s how languages work!#people in the fandom say stuff like ‘my female lavellan-‘ all the time. why aren’t you upset that there’s no special word#to replace ‘female’ there#as a heads up i know that people can a variety of experiences and be uncomfortable with those words as well#but most of the people i see complaining are cis so….#but as someone who’s nb myself it’s ridiculous. i don’t have a proper word for ‘nb’ in my language.#do you know how delighted i was to find it in english???? it means a lot to see it used so casually in my beloved game series#dragon age#tanya’s ramblings

Since I am rather serious about some day writing nihpil Tanya verse I am trying out characters and Nora just doesn't make sense to me
Like She is a single mother who works, right?
Then she should have had babysitters at hand, someone who does it regularly, somone she can call if they are not available I don't know, didn't she have like friends or family or even neighbours?
Nora asking Cas or Steve who was practically a stranger to stay with her kid is just straight up stupid
Oh yeah it's totally unrealistic. What single woman would invite a random guy she obviously doesn't know anything about into her house, let alone leaving her baby with him?
Clearly the sole purpose of the Nora character and her only two or three scenes was to demonstrate Castiel being miserable and humiliated in his human life. For that reason, unlike many Castiel fans, I don't hate Nora, I don't even fault her. She never had a chance, if you know what I mean.
And really, without this contrivance, we wouldn't get the "Castiel comforting baby Tanya and vice versa" scene, which I do like, obviously. So I am grateful to her for that.
And thirdly, as far as Castiel's humiliation goes, it was so mild, especially in contrast with what the others dished out to him, it's almost inconsequential. There was zero evidence that Castiel had any feelings for her. It was just one more routine disappointment. I am more angry that Nora didn't pay for his babysitting service--Cas was homeless and needed the money.
(Really, if they want to show Castiel humiliated, they should have just showed the moment after "you can't stay " registered. They should show him realizing he had no right to be there after screwing up everything, that he had nothing to contribute anymore, that he had to be saved by the Winchesters and now he was freeloading on them. They should show him turning red and stammering and sweating and him not knowing what to do with the burrito he was eating that he had no right to be eating, they should show his rush to get out of the bunker as fast as possible even though he didn't know where to go. Compared to that? being misled into babysitting was small potatoes.
Like of all the characters on SPN that treated Castiel terribly, she was pretty low on the list. She exploited him for a few hours of free labor, sure, but unlike others, she didn't demand him to negate his own identity or to hurt himself or to die for her benefit. )
Sorry, I went off a bitter Cas girl tangent again. You didn't ask me to comment on what I think about Nora, you asked about Nora's character not making sense. The way I tried to incorporate her into my hc is to decide that she acted in this senseless way for a reason. Perhaps she was always kind of unhinged wild-child, a reckless free-spirit, but was forced to become the adoptive mother of baby (Nephilim) Tanya because her sister (Tanya's birth mother) of course died at child birth. Because of that she had to go on the run (because her sister warned her that angels and demons would be after the baby), leave her life behind, and get a job in some small Utah town that she hated. So she resented all this responsibility she didn't ask for, and resented the baby. In rebellion she pursued her own interests while dumping her baby with a stranger. But I would like to give her a redemption arc where she discovered that despite her bitterness, she grew to loved baby Tanya after all.
However, there are lots of other ways to explain her behavior too. Like she could be an undercover demon or an agent of BMOL who was spying on Castiel (this was the hc of heaven-ecologist). In this way, she could also be killed off in a fic.
And one more thing (back to the show). I totally think that after that episode, Nora kept asking Cas for babysitting and Cas kept agreeing. I don't know if Nora started paying him or not. I think Cas would have agreed even if she didn't pay (like I believe he would have agreed to babysit for free in the first place if Nora just flat out asked him honestly). I would think babysitting was a peaceful refuge during his homelessness, to have the security of a comfortable house (maybe Nora was at least decent enough to provide free food as well), alone with a baby who didn't judge him and who needed him, made him feel useful.

A letter of significance
Recent fog has gotten my mind going as it so inevitably does on the subject of little hope. A new thought that came to me out of that fog is the hidden symbolic depth of Vince's cap
Yes a hat. I had been musing on his scenes and some of the broader details surrounding him and the T/D bond in the broader cycles and how platonic/familial/romantic, the connection between the Ts and Ds is strong regardless of how they are defined(all have differently important but equal bonds in LH but that's neither here nor there), but in 1972, Tanya loved Vince and he was cursed with becoming important to her and the cycle despite remaining outside of it. I thought first of his cap having a D on it, how you have Daylor right there and Ts previous lover is there with the first initial of the person they stood in for emblazoned on his forehead, that this is a sign of him being bound to Tanya. After more thought I came to the love spell specifically referenced in Tanya's spell book, how he is marked by a literal scarlet letter which can be seen as indicative of Tanya's attention wandering outside the core group and the taboo element of their shared new aged belief. Beyond that it's a thing puritans actually used to do and while the adulterous A is the most famous example, one could also be made to wear the drunkards D
So in conclusion Vince's cap symbolically represents his tether to Tanya, the cursed nature of this binding after her death, his "life goes on, but we don't all go with it", the way he is physically stuck in his grief(although it is my preference is the spell was mutual it also works as something she did to get his undying love even 50yrs after death), the way Vinya and Daylor compare and contrast narratively and a niche yet appropriate jab at his vice and unhealthy coping mechanism through alcoholism.
Given the game says by name out loud that a #1 dad key chain is significant, I think I am engaging with little hope as intended in my random deep Vince cap thoughts lol

Watching Ackley Bridge, Waterloo Road and EastEnders at the same time makes me want an AU where Jane and Tanya just left Walford together and both became teachers and are happily in lesbians.
