Feverfew or Wild Camomille (Tanacetum Parthenium also called Chrysanthemum parthenium and Pyrethrum parthenium.) and known as Grande Camomille. Feverfew is native to Eurasia. In traditional medicine, feverfew has been used to treat many things but apparently there is no confirmed scientific evidence that it does any good. It’s traditionally used for the treatment of fevers, migraine headaches, rheumatoid arthritis, stomach aches, toothaches, insect bites, infertility, and problems with menstruation and labor during childbirth. Self seeds very easily so if you like it let the dead heads drop. Cute and daisy like flowers but the leaves are especially useful - they can help to manage migraines if taken regularly, as well as tackle fevers and headaches. You can munch the leaves in salad, add a few leaves to your usual sandwich or brew leaves to make a tea. Hi y’all, I wanted to tell you a little bit about my favorite plant as of late: #feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium). According to my research, this is an old world herb that was included in apothecary gardens because it could be taken as a tea with honey to treat coughs and congestion. People today also use it as an herbal remedy for migraines. I grow it because I just love the smell, similar to chamomile both in scent and appearance. I’ve got three cultivars in my garden: the common green-leafed variety, ’Aureum’ (golden-leafed), and ‘Vegmo snowball’ with puffy double flowers. This is my second year growing these, and I was delighted in spring when I noticed that they self sow really nicely in our area! Not too aggressive, but definitely fighters that will make a home in shade or sun. If they ended up in the wrong spot you can simply dig em out and bring them to a friend as they don’t have particularly deep root systems. . My favorite aspect to this plant is the way it will fill all the nooks and crannies of a flower bed. The foliage holds its own most of the year, be it with color, smell, or the delicate leaf structures. In the summer though, the little cheery daisies pop up everywhere and really stick around. It’s pollinator friendly, and doesn’t need special water attention. In fact I mostly just let it do it’s thing until our dry season and then give it a little water if it starts to look floppy. (I am stingy with watering in my yard) Overall, it’s a winner for it’s versatility, hardiness and year-round interest.
