Casual reminder that Jamie Bennington (Chester's oldest son) is insane, believes that Chester was murdered and kept tagging the guys in posts about it, Talinda (Chester's widow) had to get a restraining order against him and Mike filed for one because he constantly accuses them of having an affair, deep into Qanon shit. He's insane and anything he says about Emily is null and void because of it

Jaime Bennington has not been well mentally for a very long time. He believes that Chester was murdered and that Mike was having an affair with Talinda. Both her and Mike had do get restraining orders against him because he would not stop harassing them. The rest of his family have also distanced themselves and hes super into qanon stuff. Nothing he says can be trusted. Talinda herself supports Emily and I trust her and the rest of the band way more than him.

Now for my two cents on the drama that ensued among the Linkin Park Community.
Content Warning: Discussions of sexual assault, Scientology, and suicide
Disclaimer: I do not condone nor encourage the harassment of the individuals or anyone with their own opinion. Additionally, this statement is intended to be read with an open mind and I may be wrong at such details. Any corrections with hard evidence is appreciated. Updates to the situation will be made via reblogs.
Like many LP fans, I was happy that there was a new Linkin Park album in the works and was amazed by Emily Armstrong's vocals in the latest track. However, this news came with some awful drama.
Let's discuss the basics. From Zero will be the first Linkin Park album with newly recorded material in seven years following No More Light, the last album to be recorded prior to Chester Bennington's suicide. To receive news about a truly new album and a new vocalist is enough to excite the LP fandom.
The new vocalist for Linkin Park is Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara. When The Emptiness Machine dropped as the newest single, the controversies of Armstrong's past reared its ugly head and caused a divide in the fandom. Namely, Armstrong was outed as a Scientologist and a supporter of Danny Masterson. Cue many fans being upset, especially detractors of the new direction of Linkin Park going forward.
Armstrong hasn't discussed her views since 2013 and she has recently posted a statement on her involvement with Danny Masterson during the court hearings he was going through. She has stated that she has no longer supported Masterson following him being found guilty of rape and made an Instagram Story of her clearing the air. The hearing she attended to was in 2020. The statement below can be interpreted has her apology for this.

As for her past as a Scientologist, she's a Second Generation Scientologist (meaning she had no say in her being part of the Church of Scientology whatsoever, let alone a religion of people who hate anything negative statements about them) and was called out by one of Masterson's victims. Again, Armstrong hasn't said anything about it since 2013. Scientologists can leave their faith, but it is difficult to do so and there are several restrictions placed by the Church. (Again, they HATE criticism and negative publicity of any kind)
Scientologists tend to ignore the topic of mental health. Many fans were pissed at such a damning revelation and believed that Chester would be upset over this.
Despite this, LP gave their support and Chester's wife, Talinda showed her support in Armstrong being the new vocalist.
As for the Masterson case, many of Masterson's former friends would logically want to see him as a good person, but have cut ties with him following his conviction (Armstrong herself stated that herself. I believe that she flubbed a spot check when her Insta reveals she stills follow Masterson, but dealing with the fallout of a friend being a monster comes with its own baggage). While some have said Armstrong was involved with a confrontation with a victim, there isn't any evidence to prove this.
The instance of Scientology requires a more realistic thought. The Church of Scientology has no problems making the lives of vocal ex-members a living hell with legal battles and frequent harassment. While we can assume Emily Armstrong herself is an ex-member, she can't be vocal about it without a massive shitstorm ensuing, especially if she's part of a band that has several songs dealing with mental health, something that Scientologists actively ignore. Many ex-members have resorted to sneaking out of the Church or even Scientology as a whole in the trunk of a car. Even if Armstrong seems to be in a place to discuss her departure, she still won't be able to without the ire of her former faith. If you analyze the lyrics of The Emptiness Machine, they deal with leaving a toxic enviroment or a cult-like place. In Armstrong's case, it can be interpreted has her stating that she has left the Church without attracting a potential shitstorm, with the lyrics feeling appropriate for leaving such a place.
All in all, this is not how the new era of LP was supposed to go down, but the use of context and media literacy is how we can understand this situation going forward.

With regards to Jamie Bennington (Chester's son) somethings need to be clarified before you give him attention.
With regards to Jamie Bennington (Chester's son), somethings need to be clarified before you give him attention. He has been mentally spiraling for 2 years+ now. And I'm not talking about grieving and related spiraling. But just downright conspiracy spiraling. To the point that he now thinks his dad didn't die by suicide. You know, the rumors started by conservatives about Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. For clarification, by his own admission, he hadn't been in contact with Chester and Talinda (Chester's wife) the year Chester passed away and it took numerous calls from Talinda to finally get a hold of him to let him know about Chester's death. This is probably there somewhere in the large stockpile of stories that Jamie has on his IG account. He alienated every single individual who was close to Chester and treated Chester like family from every member in LP, Talinda, Anna Shinoda (who Jamie was very close to), members of Julien K etc.. He's even alienated from his step siblings (Chester's other children) and his own mother. Here's his mom talking about this last yearhttps://preview.redd.it/34eye9v79wnd1.png?width=619&format=png&auto=webp&s=b0debe41a5603d908a125de004df6666a59cab90He harassed Ryan Shuck from Julien K, someone who was very close with Chester and did the "Dead By Sunrise" side project with Chester, by constantly sending him 20-30 voice notes and then demanding a response. Ryan eventually felt so threatened by the harassment that he stated that anymore harassment will lead to legal cases filed against Jamie.Important to note - Chester's widow, Talinda, also has a restraining order against him because of his violent tendencies. There are rumors that Chester's ex-wife and son also have a restraining order against Jamie but I cannot confirm that. But the above is a TINY sliver of the harassment Jamie has directed to ONE individual that was close to Chester. He has consistently been tagging Mike Shinoda and LP band members on the most random stories, circling random articles that had nothing to do with LP all with the insinuation that everything is a giant conspiracy. I'm not even making any of these up. Just go to his IG page and you'll have many posts that he posted recently of just articles and comments that he circles. His stories are just all that. If ya'll want to go on the deep end of spiraling, watch Jamie's videos. But he craves attention and started posting more and more with every single new viewer he got on his stories. And now he's got the ultimate attention with subs like this and news article picking his stories up and running with it.A lot of the core LP fandom were well aware of him and ignored him consciously because giving him attention was feeding his addiction for attention. If you feel bad for him and want to help him, stop spreading his stories around and feeding him the attention he was craving. If anything, push him to go get professional help. Something multiple people have already asked of him. Submitted September 09, 2024 at 08:39PM by 101nemesis101 https://ift.tt/OJ7x31W via /r/Music

Does it affect you?
When it comes to whether or not media affects people, the other problem is that you have people who are kind of media-illiterate, in the sense of knowing that it’s fiction but getting really defensive if someone else points out racism, sexism and other prejudices in some stories. This may not always be the case but it kind of does feel this way at times, why it’s really going to be hard for some people to admit that their love lives were/are ruined by romance novels and the like. I feel it’s got to do with that a good number of romance readers are very defensive of what they read, after having been kind of attacked for their preferences, that they’re eager to strike those who feel like are criticising them for something.
Whilst there are studies that do examine racial/ethnic fetishisation in romance novels and the like, I don’t think you’re ever going to see more of them due to defensiveness on part of the readers and writers themselves. Or for another matter, people admitting their love lives are ruined by romance. These do exist but I feel given the greater defensiveness of other readers and writers, that it’s kind of taboo to say this out loud. Yet there is no mistaking that media does affect the way we view the world and how we expect others to be, media is even coloured by biases that the lack of media literacy would worsen matters. Whilst readers do know that romance novels are kind of escapist, it could affect more vulnerable people among them regarding romantic/marital expectations.
Sort of like how there’s a preponderance of bad boy types and billionaire plutocrats in romance novels, but when you have men who do fit these two templates yet are ultimately terrible people, such stories could risk ruining people’s expectations of those when they do get into relationships at all. Elon Musk fits the latter template, but then he has a habit of dumping women after women. He even demands his wives and girlfriends to go blonde, then he moves onto other women with similar characteristics. Not to mention he turned out to be rather racist, white supremacist and also not a good father, one might wonder why one of his children resents him. At any point where the marriage to Justine Wilson would’ve been stable and where Elon could’ve been supportive of Vivian, he ended up mocking them.
Perhaps it’s not their fault for being seemingly ungrateful when Elon himself failed to be a good father and role model for them in their formative years, given they criticised him for his promiscuity. Add to that he even sexually harasses women, so it seems their onetime desire for a happy, stable family life turned out to be a pipe dream whenever he’s around. Then we get to Ninja of Die Antwoord, a man who kind of fits the former template, he even has tattoos to match. But when it comes to him interrupting his girlfriend and partner in crime Yolandi Visser a lot, raping women and possibly abusing Yolandi in some other way, it seems the bad boy template doesn’t seem to guarantee a satisfying relationship, as she admitted to feeling lonely at some point.
Add to that divorce rates are pretty high in the west that makes one wonder if chasing after those romance novel ideals are ultimately impractical, especially when you do encounter men who fit those romance novel templates (i.e. Ninja and Elon Musk). Then we get to another popular romance novel template, that of the brooding and wounded hero though I feel based on my own knowledge of celebrities with depression and my experience with relatives having the same illness, it kind of does risk fetishising mental illness in men. Whereas in those stories women are expected to heal them, if people like Talinda Bennington as well as the wives of both Chris Cornell and Robin Williams are any indication, they may even be powerless to stop their husbands (Chris, Chester and Robin) from killing themselves when they’ve hit a low point.
To the point where such ideals are so unrealistic as to be rather impractical when applied to real world relationships, if celebrities and real people in general are any indication. So my issue with many, if not most, romance novels isn’t so much a matter of storytelling quality or sentimentality, but rather a matter of romantic/marital impracticality where some people might internalise the ideals enspoused in those stories and find people who fit popular templates, but find themselves in rather unsatisfying relationships and/or are powerless to stop them from giving into their demons that a more mature, grounded alternative is very much needed. Not necessarily so much explicit, but rather a case of having to write stories featuring stable, loving relationships.
Not necessarily entirely drama-free, but where those men are more attainable. More mature, more well-adjusted. But these might risk being boring, even if it sets up more realistic expectations in a relationship. Add to that I believe romance novels became a thing when love marriages were taking off in the west, where instead of having to develop feelings for somebody whom you’re made to marry, you fantasise about marrying the one you want. It’s not a surprise that not only do subsequent romance novels get more explicit, but also come to find new male templates to create and exploit, albeit with the aim of making them more desirable. It’s not something people realise, but it does make sense that love marriages did have affect western culture a lot.
Right down to creating expectations for what people want in a relationship, now that they’re free to chose but with the baggage of fetishisation based on characteristics. Not that fetishisation didn’t exist before in the days where arranged marriage was more commonplace in the west, if the belle juive character is any indication, but the popularisation of love marriage pretty much caused this to skyrocket. It’s not hard to see how this kind of plays into romance novels regarding women’s expectations, now that they’re free to marry or date the man of their choice. To some extent but it does make sense why there are so many good girls dating bad boys, or less well-off women dating billionaires in romance stories. It’s all about finding somebody you desire.
Whilst desire does exist in arranged marriages, I feel this is more predominant in love marriages. But when coupled with high divorce rates and also cases where married partners living apart (especially in Japan and South Korea), I feel the romance novel ideal might play a part in their expectations not being met in real life. Maybe not necessarily romance novels themselves, but they do set standards that their male partners may not perfectly fit. Not that all romance readers are spinsters themselves, but they do create such unrealistic expectations for what relationships should be that even if their partners do qualify, getting divorced will not ensure its longevity/staying power. Or the people they desire might reject them in some way, given the muscular men so desired in romance novels are also the sort of men in real life who distrust/dislike fat women.
So these expectations are impractical in the end.

Insonnia
