9 People You Would Like to Know Better

I've been tagged by... A lot of people. @authortobenamedlater @fairytale-lights aaaaand it seems like somebody else, but those are the only ones I'm finding in my drafts. ANYWAY, thank you! <3

1. Three ships: Jisbon (Patrick Jane/Teresa Lisbon, The Mentalist); my first ship that really introduced me to the concept of shipping/fanfic/fandom in general. Garcy (Garcia Flynn/Lucy Preston, Timeless); to this day my best experience with fandom as a community. It's hard to explain, but something about the bonding that took place while everyone was fighting to save the show together will make that ship forever hold a space in my heart, I think. And Emotional Compass (Will Zimmerman/Helen Magnus, Sanctuary); Chosen for being the latest ship living rent-free in my head, though I'm due for a new one any time soon.

2. First ever ship: So Jisbon was the ship that introduced me to fandom, BUT my first ship before I knew what shipping was? Either Superman/Wonder Woman, or, going back further, a spider and a worm from a couple of kid books I read. I don't remember the titles or anything now, but they were buddies, and I shipped them hardcore.

4. Last Film: The 1950s Cinderella

5. Currently Reading: Pastwatch by Orson Scott Card, and Once Upon A Christmas Heart by Melody Carlson. Vastly different books, I'll say.

6. Currently Watching: Not much. I've nudged a few different shows, but nothing is really sticking.

7. Currently consuming: Nothing. I have a bottle of water I should probably be drinking from, though.

8. Currently Craving: Rest. I had a busy and stressful dream last night (late to work+can't find boss's phone number to call and explain+texts to coworkers aren't going through+tried to drive there but drove to the wrong side of town+oh no I tried to get back in my car to drive to the right side of town and it Wasn't There Anymore+you get the idea), and am hoping I rest better tonight.

If you succeed in a challenge then you get an advantage for your quest. If you fail in a challenge then your quest can become even more challenging. And then there’s the other resolution mechanic. Showdown. This is the climatic end of your quest and sees one of your Cadre step forth to confront the threat of your quest. Unlike with a challenge, in a Showdown you’re instead directly negotiating with the Storyteller about what your character is willing to sacrifice. What is their favorite movie? Thaiv's favorite movie is probably The Prince of Egypt!! He loves a good musical. Also, Tall Girl. And A Week Away

What is their favorite season? I think summer, though he ADORES Christmas time, too!!

What do they find annoying? He's not easily annoyed, honestly. Hookup culture does annoy him, for sure

How would they like to spend their Christmas or equivalent holiday? With his family and friends, eating delicious food (especially gingerbread cookies) and listening to Christmas music!! In general, just enjoying the season to the FULLEST

Do they play an instrument? If so, what? How good are they at it? He does!! Piano, guitar, saxophone, harmonica, and a little cello (I do not play an instrument. So if any of what I just said didn't make sense, pretend like it did)! And he's good enough to lead a band, so, quite good!

What's their favorite meal to eat? Ohhhhhh, good question... I think pancakes or waffles, with bacon. Breakfast is his favorite meal of the day

Do they have a favorite video game or board game? I think he'd like the card game spoons!!

Do they celebrate their birthday? For sure!! He loves him some birthday cake

What's their bedtime routine? Ooooh, hard. Maybe he listens to some music, or an audiobook for a while to unwind, before going to bed

What's an OC (or canon character) they like to spend time around? What do they tend to do together? Suvi Owthos!! They're in the same gang, but she's like a little sister to Thaiv. She helps run his band, and they also like to listen to music together, or watch musicals (or Tall Girl)!

Last Song I Listened To: ummm tbh I cannot remember :') probably something that was playing on my local Christian radio station? I've not been listening to a whole lot of music, which is kinda sad...

Currently Watching: nothing very consistently... but my dad and I started watching the latest Star Trek series together a couple of weeks ago, and I've surprisingly really enjoyed it! and I've been watching various Angel Studios shows with my littlest sister

Currently Reading: does my Bible count :') other than that, I started "Deep Survival" by Laurence Gonzales, which is a sorta 'psychology of survival' book? but then I got distracted from it and then it got buried under a stack of things in my room and now it's overdue at the library ugh

Current Obsession: uhm. preparing for college?? stressing about stupid things in my life?? trying NOT to think about all the random things that are making me cry lately??? trying not to think about all the random things that are making me afraid lately???? yeh.

I feel like I've become an incredibly uninteresting person as of late lol :') depression does that to a person I suppose

Thanks for the tag, @thebirdandhersong!! Although sadly we apparently have almost no music in common.....

The Oh Hellos get an honorable mention because I quite like Soldier, Poet, King and the rest of the Dear Wormwood album is enjoyable if it happens to be playing (though I don't seek it out), and Taylor gets an honorable mention because there are definitely some bops and grade school/high school throwback songs but I'm largely just very indifferent to her music. Oh, and Sound of Music is the only R&H musical I've actually seen lol.

So I've actually made a card for this bingo once before, but I like A Lot of music so I challenged myself to make another full card with no repeats and it was actually not too hard. Taleweaver Calls for Aid

(aka, I don't know what to do to keep my D&D-adventure turned LOTR-fanfic from getting boring; ideas pls?)

So. A few months ago, due to a series of unforeseen (but probably should've been foreseen) circumstances,* the D&D campaign I run took a turn into LOTR-self-insert-fanfic territory. This is all well and good, except that I've run out of ideas on how to actually give the party something meaningful to do.

*In hindsight, I'm not sure why I didn't expect this. A previous worldhopping adventure had included a stop in Middle Earth wherein the party met the Fellowship and accidentally prevented Merry and Pippin's capture and saved Boromir's life, mostly because I thought it would be funny. (It was.) But then they wanted to go back to Middle Earth after they finished the quest they were on . . . and I said yes, because I'm a nice DM who wants to give players agency.

The current situation: the party is currently in Rohan, and we're finishing up Helm's Deep tonight. Due to their earlier interference, Aragorn and co. didn't show up in Rohan as scheduled, so the party essentially took their place. Gandalf did show up on time and is about to arrive at Helm's Deep with reinforcements . . . which will include part of the remaining Fellowship.* Once the battle at Helm's Deep ends, the party will probably end up tagging along to Isengard — I have another option to give them if they want it, but I have learned my lesson and am pretty sure I know what they'll choose.

*This took significant finagling on the part of myself and another friend, but was necessary for three purposes: first, because I needed Aragorn in place for the Paths of the Dead; second, because I needed something in place that could still trigger the Ents; third, because the party really wants to get back with the Fellowship. And there is a good reason to make it make sense, which I'll happily explain to anyone who wants to know it.

The problem: I don't know what to do now. I could just let the events of the original story play out more or less as they did in the book, just with the party tagging along, but I'm not sure how interesting that's actually going to be for them or me (and I'm a little worried that it'll start to feel like a cycle of [talk to people] -> [travel] -> [fight orcs] -> [repeat]). I'd like to be able to give the party some kind of specific quest or goals to actually contribute to the story, but I'm out of ideas on what that could look like (and I've been thinking on this since before Christmas, so it's not like I haven't been trying). If anyone else has suggestions of any kind, I would deeply appreciate them.
