Medicine

Tell a success story (even if it’s only a fantasy so far) about managing relationships and boundaries with our pandemic-mates.

An offshoot from a previous entry:

I need choose to take my medicine.

I greeted Irritation and asked if she wanted a drink of water. She sipped the bottle for about an hour before I realized that what she actually wanted was for me to take my medicine.

Medicine changes by the day and sometimes by the hour. A seasoned recluse, I have an arsenal of activities, practices, and joys. I have meditations and mantras. I track my habits, collect tips, do tricks and partake in rituals. Sometimes I forget that it’s not enough to have lots of medicine. And it does me no good to just need my medicine. I must choose to take the medicine.

Tonight my medicine was Elderflower-Jasmine-Violet poured out of a glass bottle with the word “Bloom” on it.

I also got my medicine on the web for $3.99. It was my primal need to hear Bella’s seething line of inquiry:

“You nicknamed my daughter after the Loch Ness monster?!?!?”

My medicine comes in surprising forms. Last week a lady knocked on all of the doors in my building to ask us if we smelled something. When I asked what she meant she whispered, “You know — pot.”

I think my medicine in that moment was sniffing the air, smiling and saying, “I think what I smell is your nice perfume.”

Or maybe my medicine was tasting the little bit of drama that stirred within her, to the point that she felt compelled to talk to me. Or maybe it was the satisfaction of not snitching, because for all I know, my neighbor was just taking their medicine.

I could walk everyday in the presence of the moon and not realize I have been taking my medicine. There’s something about giving thanks for its particular fullness, that in so doing charges me up like a crystal.

Anyone can be an observer. Anyone can do what they need to do just to get by.

I choose to participate. I choose to appreciate.

And I choose. 

And I choose. 

And I choose.

Bipolar crash 2

I feel like I'm almost fine all day until night time. Why is nighttime always the worst?? I've been off my meds since November. No insurance. Unsure how to start back on them. I don't know if I want to. I lost weight off of them, finally. I'm starting to sleep again...but it's never enough. I feel like I've aged a lot, but I haven't really....but 5 full hours of sleep feels like heaven. I don't know where my gears go. My motor driving me. Pushing me. Instead of wanting to do everything I don't want anything. Cut last night for the first time since December. I'm afraid of adjusting back to meds at my job. I'm afraid they'll make me dumb. I'm afraid I'll gain weight. I'm afraid without them I'll dig myself back into debt....or get fired. I know I've been a bit erratic. My periods have been fucking painful and horrendous and I want to get on bc and never ever have a period again....all the mood stabilizers I've on fuck with hormonal birth control. I don't understand where the bright fun outrageous person I am hypomanic goes and why I have to be stuck this way. Again. I'm crying writing this. Everything hurts so much.
