ive had this sitting in my drafts for ages, and they’ve really been starting to pmo now… sorry some of these are a bit self indulgent or niche, but i hope you like at least one or three ! may be my last around of hcs for these boys for awhile :)

dean does not watch sports and actually has no idea what’s going on anytime someone puts a game on. sam does though, college kids had nothing else to do but study, drink beer, and watch sports. he sometimes makes stuff up to fuck with dean

sam and dean still have charlie’s phone when she died. it’s on silent, and the boys (mostly dean) will text it sometimes whenever they miss her. most of the messages are apologies.

sam still visits jess’ grave on the anniversary of her death. he takes eileen once or twice too, because she asked.

sam doesn’t know how to cook for shit. anytime he wants to make something, he has to put on a step by step youtube tutorial video. he refuses to ask for deans help.

there’s a small amount of grace left over in the handprint on deans shoulder

whenever deans comfortable and feels safe, he can conk out anywhere. he’s fallen asleep at the table, in the middle of cooking, and has once or twice fallen asleep on sam and cas. sam was concerned at first, but now he has just accepted it and dean has designated nap times throughout the week.

sam is into wicca practise. he burns incense and sage and keeps crystals lying around the bunker, he’s slipped a few into the glove compartment of the impala

dean teases and complains, but he actually likes doing chores. it’s something that makes him feel “normal” and he likes using his hands and working.

cas and dean are soul-bound.

dean has read the bible through multiple times throughout his life (mostly at low points, and he’s had a lot,) to the point where he has memorized some passages. he’s not much for faith, but he has gone to church once or twice recently when jack became god

sam hates cats and is strictly a dog person

cas’ eyes reflect in the dark, like how cats/most nocturnal animals do.

anytime he prays, all deans prayers go exclusively to cas without thinking. he actually prays more than he ever texts or calls cas, like it’s as easy as breathing. cas never mentions how intimate it really is for him to do this. he always listens to them

the air around cas changes whenever he’s in a room. it’s subtle, like the feeling you get when your hair stands on end, like you can tell that he’s not entirely human. normal people chalk it up to vibes or cas being intimidating or offputting. it’s not something he does on purpose

john has gotten physical, but dean has always been there to take the brunt of it. because sam was the favourite, and dean believed and wanted sammy to live some semblance of a normal life as best he could. everything dean has endured has always been for sammy.

sam has this complicated relation with killing where he’s fine hunting monsters, but refuses to kill animals. he remembers as a kid bobby took them out hunting once—actually hunting, not with monsters—and when told to shoot at a squirrel, he couldn’t do it. dean shot it instead and claimed sammy did it. this is also one of the reasons he’s moved to a more vegetarian/vegan lifestyle.

sam had an emo phase as a kid. he grew out of it, but not the music; he’ll go back to listen to some emo/punk songs when he’s in a good mood. dean bullies him ruthlessly when he hears it.

deans fight-or-flight kicks in whenever someone drums their fingers or hands on the table, it takes him back to when michael would bang on the doors in his mind. he is still learning to quietly asks people to stop

sam has built up a high pain tolerance from his time in the cage but has become hyper-aware and sensitive to the lightest touches, like someone touching his hair or breathing on the back of his neck.

anytime a spell component requires blood, dean will always do it unless it’s specific. he still considers himself a weapon or catalyst, and it’s been ingrained in him to always give and give and give himself for others.

when they were kids, dean used to steal formula and food for sam when they were younger and sam knows this. now, sam will almost always go out for groceries. it’s sort of his silent way of returning the favour for dean.

dean stays up late on purpose just to talk to cas, it’s really the only point in a day they get quality time together just talking. eventually though, dean falls asleep; cas is always there in the morning.

sam, dean, and cas all enjoy watching trashy reality television shows... dean and cas like watching say yes to the dress and they both always seem to have opposite reactions ("i think the bride looks lovely in that dress. why is the mother-in-law being so critical?" "seriously, cas? that dress looks like some old ladies curtain. no way in hell is she walking down the aisle in that.") and sam and dean really enjoy watching ghost hunters, just to make fun of them.

dean’s a neat freak when it comes to his own room, borderline ocd, and sam is organized but messy, a combination of cleanliness only an ex-college student could have.

cas can make his wings corporal, but everytime he does this it takes a lot of concentration, and it becomes a bit more difficult to put them back into the aether each time. it’s also considered vulnerable/intimate for an angel to do this, or sometimes even painful to constrain their true form to simple shapes.

deans love language is acts of service, cas’ is words of affirmation, and sams is quality time.

prayers have a sound to them. when either one of the boys pray to cas, they have their own distinct tone that cas has come to recognize. sam’s is high pitched, like a clinking of a glass; he found it annoying at first, but sam’s prayers mellowed out into something similar to wind chimes. deans is a low sound, strong and comforting, akin to tires rolling over gravel and pops like crackling fire at its strongest.

cas makes it a daily ritual for dean to ask for at least one thing everyday; because dean always gives, and never takes. it’s usually little things, where dean will go to make coffee for him and cas and will sometimes get stopped on his way to the coffeemaker, and cas will just shoot him a look. cas waits until dean asks him to make him a coffee. sometime’s dean gets more vulnerable and asks for affection or quality time watching movies; he’s learning that he can have these things.

dean and claire text often, and there’s been multiple occasions that deans stayed up late on the phone with claire helping her out on her own cases with lore, experience, or a pep talk. there has also been times where deans driven out to help her. he will always make time for her.

jody, donna, and the girls invite tfw up to jody’s house for dinners every month or two when they all have time.

sam is a nerd in the sense that he knows a random facts about everything, but dean is a nerd in the sense he knows movies and comics. and cas is a nerd in the sense that he knows everything… literally.

dean and sam know basic sign language and learned it through eileen. sam is pissed that dean picked it up faster than him.

Quite honestly, I would be careful with genetics information from that site; not that I think it's wrong, not that I think it's bad, but because I have spoken with this person a couple of times and their understanding of genetics was... a little patchy, at times, and this appears to be pulling from a source that's quite old and possibly not as reliable as it could be.

This is the experiment I assume she's talking about, and by the looks of it, they didn't actually DNA test to find out if it even WAS a real gene or what gene it was, or if it was just a heritable trait they could artificially select for. The study refers to the gene as dominant and recessive in the same breath right off the bat ("the assumption was made that there was a single gene for red egg-shell color that was dominant in its effect" and "were assumed homozygous for the recessive allele")... there was actually a lot of assuming in what I could read of it. Considering the study took place 50 years ago (1975), it's doubtful the gene is still around /at all/. She says that it's "recessive to" the celadon gene, but that's probably only half-true given the way the celadon gene works. It reduces the amount of protoporphyrin applied to the shell; that pigment IS still there, in the speckles, and if there was a gene to cause a variance in the red pigment, that would still happen, it just wouldn't be obvious.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me to see a red-colored egg, either, considering protoporphyrin ("ooporphyrin" in the study) IS a red pigment technically. We know today that heavy bloom on eggs can change a brown egg to look pink, or a dark brown egg to look purple.

Indeed even the darkest eggs in the chicken world - those from quality BCM hens - are supposed to look dark brown

Buuuut in light can look awwwfully red....

So, again I wouldn't be surprised if there were coturnix who laid eggs whose coating looked more reddish than brown. I'd prefer to see DNA testing for the gene, or even a photo of the eggs (which do indeed appear to not exist, so for all we know it was a HUGE and very obvious difference, or one so minor they could have been imagining it). Maybe it will pop up again in the general population :)

another funny thing i noticed while watching of the episode was how they have different uniform styles; specifically, how jax and ragatha have the same uniform styles while zooble, pomni and gangle have the same uniform styles.

like it's interesting to me that jax and ragatha are wearing the more modern version of Japanese school uniforms yk, the blazer style uniform, while gangle, zooble, and pomni are wearing the older, more military/sailor style uniforms.

to be honestly i mean it's probably just a reference to gangle and her love for anime and all, but I just thought it was a neat detail.

Never getting over Fulcrum being a project manager...

Idk why, but something about that is so funny to me. Not just because the title of "project manager" is inherently kinda funny for a Decepticon, but also because-

1. It's vague sounding and hard to explain irl because it technically exists in multiple fields, like healthcare or manufacturing, which surely translates into canon in some way.

2. In canon, it's simultaneously a really mundane, innocuous sounding job, yet it's also a super morally awful position to reside over depending on the context. (*cough* forced colonization and cyberforming *cough*)

And 3. It solidifies the fact that behind all the surface level militaristic work we get with both the Decepticons and Autobots, there's also Cons and Bots with "normal" jobs in both factions.

Like, sure yeah we get scientists and doctors, engineers and programmers, but usually in big important or warfront positions. (For plot reasons, understandably.) But it's also really funny and interesting to think of those that worked background positions, or minor jobs.

Like an Autobot working in their equivalent of an HR department, or a Decepticon who runs one of their outpost's or starship's kitchens.

Just all the pre-war jobs that didn't just disappear with the war, but instead evolved to exist within the factions.

It's particularly funny with the Decepticons though, because it could be a super mundane job or situation, but because it's them, it has to have an air of ~e v i l~ to it, either legitimately and/or merely for the vibes, like Tarn's "performance reviews".

So how is Kris canonically established as being transfem? The only evidence that I can think of is the fact that, like you said in that post, the second hero holds a sword and Kris uses swords. But then, what would that make the first hero, the cage with human soul and parts? The vessel we made at the beginning of chapter 1?

Obviously I'm not primed to see transfem Kris, so I would appreciate some more of your perspective

I spent a good part of yesterday and today mulling over how to properly answer this question, and I think I got a pretty good case in my hands.

Please read this post by tumblr user molsno first. Deltarune itself has a lot of themes about having predetermined roles that you have to fulfill, as she points out, and this needs to inform a lot of your reading of a few details in Deltarune in general. It's hard to glean Kris' preferences because they're not exactly working at full freedom of will here, but one thing that strikes me as very significant is that they reject masculinity when imposed on them, which should be a clear indication of distaste for the idea of being a boy or a man.

Secondly, something a friend of mine pointed out, is the egg room in Chapter 3, the seven aces and the signs. In MANCOUNTRY, IT'S A MAN'S WORLD, but NON-MEN ARE A-OK TOO. Paired with the fact that Kris has their light world appearance there instead of the dark world appearance, hinting that it is a representation of their view of their life, or of their childhood. This evokes the imagery of Asriel and Kris being raised as brothers, but once Kris came out as non-binary, they reshaped their games with the seven aces to accept and include them. This is, again, a rejection of the idea of Kris as partially or nebulously interested in masculinity in identity terms.

Thirdly -- and this one is kinda dark -- is that the weird route's themes of cisheteronormative suffocation would not make much sense if Kris was ambivalent towards masculinity, because they are forced into the role of a groom in chapter 2 and their dynamic with Noelle is stereotyped into a dysfunctional cishet couple, complete with a violent depiction of a wedding ring. This is painted by the narrative and experienced by the characters as uncomfortable and ultimately a terrifying expression of the player's control upon them to make their lives worse. The weird route's themes and it forcing Kris into the role of a man would not hit the right tones if you don't read Kris as transfem.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I think this makes Kris' interest in Spamton even more interesting, because it makes me feel like Kris is looking at Spamton not only as a reflection of being a puppet, of being denied freedom, but also as a reflection of what they could be like if they didn't express their gender as they wanted. I keep alluding to the idea of Spamton as a repressed trans woman and I never end up voicing those thoughts coherently, but her ghost is there, and Kris can see it, and it bothers them.

I do want to make a parenthesis that I'm approaching the terminology of transfemininity not as a trans person who embraces femininity, but as a trans person who rejected imposed masculinity. As far as I can tell, this is a very prominent sentiment among transfem people both binary and nonbinary, when I read up about transfem and trans women's experiences. However, I myself am not transfem, so feel free to add onto this in replies or reblogs.

Going back to Kris, I don't think this means they're a girl now, specifically, but maybe that they will be one (even if not transitioning into binarity, a lot of trans people do start their journeys of gender discovery with neutral pronouns). As for the rest of the question, I can't tell who any of the rest of the prophecy alludes to, I don't think I have enough puzzle pieces to figure out. I just have a hunch that, if the name of the game is "subverting determinism", it's not a stretch to assume that "LOVE finds its way to the girl", with a girl that does not resemble Susie nor the weapons she wields, but DOES resemble Kris a bit, and is not Noelle or Dess... Who else is it gonna be?

Very hot takes for Httyd movies incoming

I am so sorry if this is annoying but I am actually huge on don’t like don’t read/watch/etc, and like… is there a terrible 3rd movie? Yea. Are there parts of the live action thst are gonna suck based off what we’ve seen? Most certainly. however, no matter how much I dislike certain aspects of the movie, there’s still parts that I freaking adore (the epilogue, soundtrack, concepts, etc) and while I agree, yes we should voice very much on things that we don’t like so we get better content, but I also feel like sometimes people are a little too negative 😭 I genuinely don’t mean to be any sort of rude or mean or anything but we have the option to just not watch it 🤷‍♀️

an Opportunity for a stunning and awesome movie lost? Yeah. Disappointing? 100%, but idk I see pointless live actions and stuff actually kinda ok, because there’s still atleast some good we can milk out of the LA, like the 3rd movie (again like stated previously, the plot and other stuff was RUBBISH but there’s still some awesome things I can remember about it)

i wrote a little something that i have no idea if i'll continue, but i just really wanted to write a bagginshield fic through kíli's point of view, i thought it'd be fun. so enjoy!

tw: a bit of angst, mention of blood, but nothing too graphic, or excessive.

Contrary to popular belief, Kíli was not stupid.

He knew there'd been something going on between his uncle and Mr. Baggins the second he saw him break a smile —which was already suspicious— at Bilbo at the Carrock before hugging him —even more suspicious— after he'd defended his uncle from what was certain death.

Now don't get him wrong, he was more grateful to Bilbo than he could ever say. He saved Thorin's, and Fíli's, and his life too many times to count. He'd stayed after the battle had died down, and helped the healers, elven and dwarven alike, tend to the wounded and bury the fallen. He'd spent his entire days helping Bombur cook food at the makeshift camp they'd set at the base of the mountain, and when he wasn't cooking, he was stealing peaches and apples from the elves' food carts just for him and Fíli when they were bedridden. And he'd sit beside Thorin and wait for him to wake up when his nephews couldn't be there for him.

Kíli really liked Bilbo. He'd grown on him, all of them, truly. He just couldn't believe someone so small could be so brave, and feisty!

Which is why he was extremely confused when he'd heard Bilbo would be going home after Thorin had woken up.

His first reaction was that he felt abandoned. How could a member of their company simply choose to leave after all they'd been through together? He almost shouted his disagreement, before Fíli took his arm, shaking his head, and looked right at Bilbo: tear tracks on his dirty face. Maybe he wasn't leaving by choice.

He looked to his uncle, sat up against the wooden bedpost. His jaw was set and his adam's apple bobbed, as if it were physically hurting him to not speak up. His eyes were transfixed by Bilbo's back, like if he tried hard enough, his eyes could tell Bilbo all he wouldn't say.

Understanding flashed through Kíli's mind in a second. But it was too late. He tried speaking up again, aware of this new piece of information that he'd uncovered, but Thorin wouldn't have it. And it was frustrating Kíli greatly, because he'd never heard his uncle, his brave, tenacious uncle, speak with such a small, hoarse voice before, and say that if Bilbo wishes to leave, then he is free to go, with his blessing.

None of it rang true. How did no one notice? Why wasn't anyone saying anything?

By the time he'd looked at Bilbo again, he was already out of the tent, backpack on his shoulders.

Kíli was not proud of how he acted. He'd shouted at Thorin, painfully aware of his uncle's feeble health, but unable to contain his grief: he'd killed hundreds and seen another hundred killed, he'd almost lost his brother and uncle, and almost left his mother all alone in this world, and now his friend was leaving him, leaving them all. He'd fought relentlessly for months, why couldn't his uncle fight just a little longer, a little more? Why wouldn't he fight for his family like he said he always would?

Oin kicked Kíli out of the tent the second he saw Thorin's bandages become red. He was horrified. He'd never dream of hurting Thorin, but everything felt wrong. He'd never once cried on this journey. Not when his uncle was knocked unconscious by that foul orc, nor when he'd lost the rune stone given to him by his mother. But now he couldn't hold it in. It all came pouring out as someone —his brother, surely— held him, kneeled down on the ground. He wept until the stars came out.

Months had passed ever since Azsâlul'abad was reclaimed. The harsh Eastern winter had finally given way to spring's sunshine rays, and although the mountain's citizens couldn't say they lived an easy life, they had food and a roof over their heads, which was more than they'd had for years. More and more dwarves were coming home from all over Middle-Earth, as word of Smaug's death was starting to spread. Reconstruction was slow, but steady, and life had shaped itself into a vibrant routine under the Lonely Mountain.

Kíli and Fíli had been crowned princes, and Thorin had been crowned king. His mother had finally come to join them on a caravan she lead from Shahrulbizad, and each member of the company was appointed to some sort of important position in the king's court. It was difficult for Kíli and his brother to get used to their new lives as royalty and the responsibilities that came along with it, and Kíli was grateful for any moment of respite he could have away from the eccentric Iron Hills nobles and Balin's royal classes. His days all looked the same, and yet he found he just couldn't get used to this new life.

Thorin, Kíli had noticed, clearly felt the same, though there was no running away for him. For any person that didn't know his uncle, they'd think he looked perfectly normal, if only a little stern. But Kíli knew that look. It was the same one he'd wear on his face when he attended feasts, sat at his throne, silent, while everybody around him drank and laughed. Or when he attended meetings with the court. Or when he watched Bilbo leave, a winter ago.

Kíli was not stupid. He saw how much his uncle suffered, and how much every single member of the company missed their friend. He missed Bilbo, too.

Which is why he sent a letter adressed to Bilbo Baggins of Bag End in the Shire, pretending to be Thorin II, King Under the Mountain, begging him to come back.

Surely that would solve everybody's problem. Right?
