Qrow gets left out of the polycule so much that I legit began to favor STQ over STR. Like, I just need Qrow and Summer seeing the mess that Raven left behind and both trying to tidy it up and both end up developing feelings for Tai and each other and the three live as a happy family together.

Things Beacon Students are No Longer Allowed To Do: Rule 53
53 Beacon students are not allowed to enter false team names into Beacon servers without permission.
53 a No, not even if they’re dating.
53 a i Especially if they’re not dating.
(And before anyone asks, no, I do not want to know what a “polycule” is or why it’s the size of a huntsman team. I had to deal with that shit with Taiyang “entire team” Xiao Long, I’m not doing that ever again. - Prof. Goodwitch) (Wait, Dad did what? - Yang) (…ask Professor Branwen. - Prof. Goodwitch) (Fuck you, Glynda. Yang, when a team loves each other very much and is drunk as hell… - Prof. Branwen)
53 b Students are reminded that team names are generated based on first names, not on what sounds best.
(Ozpin, we already banned this, we don’t need to clarify how to break the rules better. - Prof. Goodwitch) (Its the principle of the thing, Glynda. JSPR is a good color name but if you’re going by Ms Schnee’s first name it would be JWPR. - Headmaster Ozpin) (Oh god please don’t tell me I’m being shipped with 3 other people. - Weiss) (You, me, Ruby, and Pyrrha, specifically. - Jaune) (…well there could be worse partners. At least that one’s somewhat based in reality. - Weiss) (Weiss they mean “partners” like…sexually. - Jaune) (Oh I am well aware of that. - Weiss) (I’m sorry for that Ms Schnee, hopefully this will make people less weird about it. I still have no idea why everyone so obsessed with “shipping”. - Prof. Goodwitch)
53 c While technically conforming to team name conventions, students and staff are now banned from using the team name “Jew-Rap” (JWRP) on campus.

Jaune and Ruby Moment
Jaune walked in the moonlight.
The only sound was the sound of his footsteps crunching on the leaves. His hands were in his pockets.
He walked slowly, lost in his thoughts.
Back when he had joined Beacon... the only goal was to become a huntsman.
Just to honor the line of huntsmen that had come before him. His father, his grandfather, who fought in the Great War for Vale, his father before him, and his father before him.
To become a hero, destined to help those in need. That was who he had wanted to be, back when he had foolishly joined Beacon without even aura.
And now...
They were waging war against the Queen of the Grimm.
Oh, and she was immortal too. With nigh-instantaneous regeneration...
The fate of the world rested on their shoulders.
And, with that reminder, Jaune’s shoulders felt like they were holding up the very definition of responsibility.
It was insane, stupid, crazy! He definitely wasn’t cut out for this.
It was incomprehensible.
They couldn’t do this. He would have backed out of this entire thing long ago...
But...
They had the best allies on their side.
Perseus Jackson, or Apollyon. His team leader, and his good friend. The most powerful demigod of his age, who held too many titles to count, and had already saved the world twice over. This was nothing new for him.
Qrow Branwen and Taiyang Xiao-Long were members of the famous Team STRQ, and experienced, powerful huntsmen in their own right.
Pyrrha Nikos, the Invincible Girl of Mistral, his partner, who was also a quarter maiden.
Oscar Pine, formerly Professor Ozpin, or Ozma. A reincarnating wizard, who had been holding Salem off for thousands of years.
It seemed like he couldn’t be relied upon, though. After what had happened... Ozpin, or Ozma, just didn’t appear anymore.
Jaune, just like everyone else, wanted to punch his face out. Qrow and Tai had both wanted to cave his skull in.
What had happened in that story fractured what little trust they had left in Ozpin.
Lying to them, keeping things secret, and even causing the entire situation in the first place. It was...
He clenched his fist. It was unacceptable.
Only the presence of Percy had helped them change things up and allowed information between them to flow more freely. Teamwork.
Even so, their two groups weren’t shabby at all. They had all come a long way since Beacon.
But they could lose. They weren’t infallible.
Despite everything, they were just first-year huntsmen trainees. What if something happened to one of them?
If assassins came in the middle of the night, or if one of them went down in battle... what would become of them?
He was still the stupid, foolish boy who had cheated his way into Beacon and faked his transcripts. He was the weakest of their group.
And so, if the day came that something would happen to one of them...
Jaune hated to admit that he would be too weak to do anything about it.
He was broken out of his thoughts by the snapping of a twig.
He whirled around, hand on Crocea Mors, drawing it. There was a flash of steel, and it was in his hands in an instant.
“Who’s there?”
A certain black and red-haired girl stepped out from behind a tree.
“Ruby?”
“H-Hey, Jaune,” she waved at him, embarrassed.
He sighed, sheathing his sword.
“Ruby? Why are you here?”
“I heard you get up from your sleeping bag,” she admitted, “You couldn’t sleep?”
Jaune thinned his lips, “No. You couldn’t either?”
“O-Oh... yeah...”
“Hey, Ruby.”
“Y-Yeah, Jaune?”
“Can I ask you a question?”
“Sure!” she chirped.
“How do you feel right now?”
“What do you mean?” Ruby asked uncertainly.
“How do you feel about...” Jaune ran a hand through his hair, “I dunno, everything. How are you taking it?”
“I... I’m not super sure...” she admitted.
There was a silence that ran through the clearing. Neither of them really knew what to say.
And then, Ruby was the one to fill the silence.
“I-I always wanted to be a hero, a huntsman,” she started, “Kinda like you, in a way. I wanted to be one of the great heroes in the fairytales, and to help the people...”
“I never thought it would have turned out like this, though,” she continued, “With everything that’s going on... it’s almost too much.”
Jaune’s shoulders slumped, and he let out an exhale through his nose, “Yeah.”
“Is that why you’re here? Because you couldn’t sleep?”
Ruby came closer to him, looking into his eyes. Jaune drew back, and she pushed forward.
“A-Are you scared?”
Jaune drew in a sharp breath.
“Y-Yeah.”
His back hit the trunk of a tree.
“Why are you scared?” she peered at him, with those wide, beautiful, silver eyes of hers.
“I-I’m afraid. I’m afraid that something might happen to one of us. Maybe someone comes and attacks us in the middle of the night. Maybe one of us goes down to the Grimm...”
“And I’ll be too weak to do anything about it. I’m the deadweight of this group.”
“I’m not Percy. Despite all the training, I’m not even near anywhere you guys are. I’m still...”
He laughed mirthlessly, gesturing to himself, “At the end of the day, I’m still me. I don’t have that much skill or strength. I’m not like Percy, who has that much strength and power and skill.”
“I’m not like Pyrrha, who is a quarter maiden and can fight her way through anyone. I’m not like Yang, who can punch through whatever’s in front of her, or Nora, who can smash through anything she wants to. I’m not like Weiss, who can use dust to do almost magic, or Blake, who can clone around quickly. I’m not like you, who can speed around, or even Ren, who can provide us with support and shield us from the Grimm.”
“And, even if I had that much strength, I don’t think it would matter. Even Percy couldn’t save everyone. At the end of the day, I’m just...”
He closed his eyes. He let out a breath, shuddering.
A warmth was clasped around his hands. Jaune opened his eyes, looking down.
Her small hands, somehow warm, clasped around one of his hands. Silver eyes met his blue ones.
“You’re you, Jaune. Don’t be so mad at yourself. None of us are all powerful,” she said softly, “And like you said if even Percy couldn’t do anything about it, why should you worry? And that’s what matters.”
“You’ve come a long way. We all have. We have to be ready,” she insisted, pressing into him.
“And how are we supposed to be ready for an immortal Queen of the Grimm, with insane magical powers and equally insane instant regeneration?”
Jaune knew he was playing the devil’s advocate here, but part of him didn’t care. He didn’t care.
“I-I...”
“How are we going to do it? Isn’t this just the world’s most advanced suicide mission ever? What’s even the point? We might as well all die anyway,” he laughed mirthlessly, “That way we can die together!”
“J-Jaune... I-I don’t know...”
He realized that he had advanced towards her, and her back was against a tree now. She had her hands out, trying to placate him.
A silence permeated throughout the clearing. He took heavy, deep breaths. He took a step backward, and then another step.
He had been screaming at her. He had been yelling at her, like some child throwing a tantrum.
What kind of person was he?
Fuck, he was horrible. He had just blown up in Ruby’s face, all for nothing.
He exhaled.
“No, it’s fine. I’m sorry. I’m sorry for yelling at you. You didn’t deserve any of it.”
Jaune slumped, slowly lowering himself and sitting on the ground. His back leaned against the trunk of a tree.
After a split second, he heard Ruby come to sit beside him.
“Yeah, I kinda get it, honestly,” she chuckled slightly, “Sometimes I also want to yell and scream too. It’s like, super super insane that we’re doing this. We’re just teenagers.”
“And how do you deal with it?” Jaune asked.
“Everyone has different ways of dealing with it. Yang likes to put her anger into workouts. Weiss and Blake would become cold and distant... I would probably, I dunno, funnel my anger into training too, and burst into rose petals, y’know? I don’t really have time to sulk.”
“That... actually makes a lotta sense...”
Ruby sighed, “Yeah. We just need to endure this,” she shuffled closer to Jaune, their shoulders touching.
“We can do this! Believe in yourself, Jaune, believe in your team- Believe in us!”
The corners of his lips seemed to lift up ever so slightly at her words.
He cracked a smile, “Y-Yeah. Just believe.”
“Sometimes, you just have to believe.”
She laid her head on his shoulder, and he thought he could feel her smile. He smiled, too.
He didn’t want to see that smile ever fade away. More than anything.
He vowed silently to never let it happen.
Arc’s honor.

RT is CRWBY and CRWBY is RT
For a long time now, especially right now i see a lot of people say things like "Roosterteeth is not the same as CRWBY!" "CRWBY is innocent of the things that Roosterteeth is doing!". Of course this is mostly in response to RT being caught up in yet another scandal of abuse or some other sort of fucky wucky. The most recent one being queerbaiting with BB over... Completely unrelated content. Something that most critics could have told you like 3-4 years ago, but the FNDM is only now catching on.
The other times people try to pretend that the problems of RWBY are because "CRWBY has limited resources" and they pretend that RT is some sort of evil overlord hanging over CRWBY and not giving them time/resources to make RWBY.
So, i took some time to go over a few names of people who produce this show for the sole reason of proving a simple TRUTH. That there is almost NO difference between CRWBY and RT. They are the SAME company with the SAME people.
(Directors)
Kerry Shawcross - Director of RWBY from V3 - Core member of RT
Gray Haddock - Co-Director of RWBY V3-5 - Head of Animation at RT
Miles Luna - Writer, Assistant director V3-5 - Head writer of Animation 2015-2018, core member of RT
Connor Pickens - Co-Director V6-7 - Lead Editor of RT
(Producers)
Matt Hullum - Executive Producer of RWBY - Chief content officer and co-founder of RT (CEO - 2012-2019) - His wife is a VO in the show for Raven Branwen.
Koen Wooten - producer / supervising producer 2015-2019 - Supervising producer of RT animation division
Joe Clary - Lead producer of RWBY 2017-2020 - Producer at RT
Nick Todd - Animation associate producer of RWBY 2019-2023 - Pre-production/outsourcing producer at RT
(Voice Actors)
Jack Pattillo - Co-Founder of Achievement Hunter - VA for Junior
Michael Jones - Core member of AH - VA for Sun Wukong
Lindsay Jones - Core editor of AH - VA for Ruby Rose
Barbara Dunkelman - Creative director of RT - VA for Yang Xiao Long
Burnie Burns - Co-founder of RT - CEO - CCO - VA for Taiyang Xiao Long
They Knew
Many of the highest ranking members of RT were involved in the production of RWBY. Heads of animation, Co-founders, Head Writers. People who were the leads of entire DEPARTMENTS of RT creation.
These people KNEW about EVERYTHING that happened at RT. RT is not some foreign entity from CRWBY. CRWBY is RT. RT is CRWBY.
The only parts of CRWBY that are not related to RT management are ANIMATORS and other such workers. And guess what, most of them are now FIRED.
Workers not getting paid, frat boy culture, bigoted culture, overwork etc. Were the fault of the SAME RT members that are a part of CRWBY.
And absolutely NOONE can even try to imply that the reason RWBY had problems because of "higher ups at RT" when those same Higher ups of RT worked on RWBY DIRECTLY. Including the CEO of the company and Co-Founders.
Also, as a note, Blizz fanboys tried to pull the same shit when Blizzard abuses came to light. "Its not the department that i like! My WoW team was innocent! My Overwatch team was innocent". Fucking bullshit, all of it.

Avatar Ruby AU
Idea for Avatar AU inspired by this great fic: https://archiveofourown.org/works/50903554/chapters/128597659
So after reading this fic, I've been having an ATLA Whiterose AU in my head for days. The setting I've been thinking of is much like the regular show— the Fire Nation's at war with the rest of the world, and Ruby must act before Sozin's Comet returns. The Air Nomad Genocide was closer to 20 years ago than 100, and was done after capturing the previous Avatar rather than to kill the next Avatar. The Fire Nation believed that, by killing the entire Air Nation then killing the Avatar, they would forever break the cycle of reincarnation since there would be no Air Nomads to inherit the Avatar Spirit. This plot was only barely stopped by the survival of one Air Nomad: Summer Rose.
Team RWBY:
Ruby Rose:
Daughter of the last surviving Air Nomad, Summer Rose, and a Fire Nation soldier, Taiyang Xiao Long.
Taiyang, who had joined up in the Fire Nation army before he truly understood what they were, had done his best to save people from the Air Nomad Genocide. However, he ended up only being able to save Summer, whom he eventually fell in love with.
When Ruby was very little, she was identified as the Avatar. However, the Fire Nation found out and attempted to kill her, leading to her mother's death and her family hiding out on Patch, a small Fire Nation Island.
One of Ruby's oldest memories is her childhood home going up in flames as Firebenders attack— this leads to her repressing her ability to bend fire before she knows that she's the Avatar and, later on, a reluctance to use fire (much like Aang in the show).
Ruby fully believes that she's an Airbender, like her mother, since Taiyang and her Uncle Qrow didn't tell her she's the Avatar
Much like in the show, Ruby's a cheerful, mischievous kid. She uses her Airbender speed to rush everywhere, although she's been reprimanded for risking her identity enough times that she doesn't use it around people.
She works as a blacksmith's apprentice to her father, and is still obsessed with weapons— Crescent Rose very much exists in this AU, although it's unfortunately not a gun.
She hopes to be a freedom fighter like her Uncle Qrow. However, for all her hatred of Fire nation imperialism, she's not got the blinding hatred of someone like Jet (or in this universe Adam). She truly hopes she can bring about a peaceful resolution to the conflict (even if she's not as violence adverse as Aang).
When she's 15 years old, she accidentally unleashes her Avatar powers to save Yang and has to flee her home to avoid discovery.
Yang Xiao Long:
After Taiyang left the army but before he and Summer got together, Taiyang had a relationship with a pirate named Raven. Although she's Fire Nation by birth, Raven's Raiders are really a scourge on all four nations, preying on whoever has something they can take.
Although Taiyang initially believed Raven to be someone like him, Fire Nation by birth but taking a stand against their Nation's evils, he leaves when he realizes that she's just motivated by greed and doesn't care who she hurts.
Yang remembers a bit more about Summer than Ruby does, and hates the Fire Nation government as much as her sister. She's not quite as idealistic as her sister, and is a lot more suspicous of people they meet (especially Weiss).
Taiyang taught her his own, very physical style of Firebending, and Yang took to it like a duck to water. Her flames are even fiercer than her father's, but she lacks some of his control— nothing that would be a serious issue against an unskilled opponent, but maybe down the road...
Does several missions with her Uncle Qrow to sabotage the Fire Nation war effort (she keeps her actions secret due to her father's fears). She's just as surprised as her little sister when, after a botched missions leads to her being almost killed, Ruby enters the Avatar State to save her.
Weiss Schnee:
Although a lot of people put Weiss in the Water Tribe due to ice being her thing, it only made narrative sense to me for her to be Fire Nation (also I love Zuko and she's now basically Zuko)
She's the second of three children of the Fire Lord Jacques Schnee and Willow Schnee. Although Willow is the actual heir to the throne since her father was the Fire Lord, Jacques Schnee, a powerful merchant, managed to orchestrate a subtle palace coup after Willow's parents death to take power.
Although the Schnees are Fire Nation royalty, blue is still the main color of their outfits, since blue is the color of very hot fire. As Jacques Schnee would put it: "common flames burn red, but Schnee flames burn blue."
Weiss' parents are much like in the show, with her controlling father orchestrating her childhood while her mother became an alcoholic to deal with her loss of power.
Her older sister, Winter, ran away years ago, and although Weiss doesn't know what happened, she's told that her sister betrayed the Schnee Family and the Fire Nation. Weiss has grown resentful of her older sister, pubicly because she's a traitor but secrelty she's more mad that her sister abandoned her.
The one person Weiss has found she can truly rely on is her butler, a retired Fire Nation soldier named Klein. Although Klein was a decorated warrior, he retired from the military (partially due to his disagreement with the military's new priorities). He was chosen to be Weiss' attendant, and pretends to be simply a servant in public, although he is in truth her closest confidant, a sharp-minded old man who's unshakably loyal to Weiss (AKA ripoff Uncle Iroh).
Much like Zuko, Weiss challenges a plan that would have led to the slaughter of innocent Fire nation Troops (as well as massive civilian deaths) and is forced into an Agni Kai, realizing only too late that she's facing her father.
I think it would be interesting for Jacques to be a non-bender in this, just because ATLA villains are always mighty benders and I think it would be cool to have a non-Bending villain. For this reason, Jacques either physically beats Weiss since she refuses to fight (with some kind of monologue about how all the Firebending in the world and she's still too weak to fight him) or a proxy like Cinder fights for Jacques. This is where Weiss gets her eye scar, as well as a lot of other, less visible scars.
Although Weiss was previously a Firebending prodigy, after months of recuperation due to her injuries in the Agni Kai she's become rusty, struggling to be as good as she once was. She's continually upset by her failure to live up to, in her eyes, "basic standards," unable to even conjure her family's signature blue flame.
Once she's healed, Weiss is sent into exile until she, you guessed it, captures the Avatar. She's accompanied by Klein and an old ship she'd commandeered on what seems like a wild goose chase, until, suddenly, she sees a pillar of light.
Blake Belladonna:
I feel like Blake should have cat ears, but I don't want to figure out how the Faunus into this universe, so everyone who is a Faunus in the original show will continue to be one but it will just never be commented on.
The White Fang are a radical anti-Fire Nation group (much like Jet's Freedom Fighters in the original). Although motivated by the very real misdeeds of the Fire Nation, the White Fang has lately begun indiscriminate attacks on Fire Nation citizens and even Earth Kingdom groups it views as collaborators due to their leniency.
Blake was a member of the group until Adam, the group's leader and her lover, plotted to collapse a mine that was being used to fuel the Fire Nation war effort. When Blake realized that most of the workers who would die in the mine collapse were Earth Nation and only working there out of fear for their families, she tried to stop Adam from but he merely stated that they were collaborators who deserved what they got. Blake realized how twisted he and the group had become and decided to leave.
When Blake encounters Ruby and Yang, she suspects that they may be Fire Nation spies and joins their group, attempting to deduce their purpose (imagine how Jet thinks of Iroh & Zuko except a lot subtler). Upon realizing who they truly are, she enthusiastically volunteers to join them, believing this to be a way to truly help defeat the Fire nation.
Blake is incredibly cynical and, while not as blinded by rage as Adam, still has a deepset hatred of the Fire Nation. Meeting Yang and Ruby, friendly people raised in the Fire Nation, caused her to rethink some of her assumptions about the Fire Nation, assumptions further challenged by Weiss.

cauiten of hte blake and yang maidne au
And so it begins...
First / Previously
-------------------------------------
"And finally: Blake Belladonna. Ruby Rose. Weiss Schnee. Yang Xiao Long." The headmaster of Beacon waved his arm to the four girls, who then took to the stage. Standing before an audience under a blinding spotlight, Blake fought the urge to cover her eyes. Looking to her fellow faunus, Ruby Rose, she noticed she didn't feel such hesitation and raised an arm over her brow. "The four of you retrieved the white knight pieces. From this day forward, you will work together as Team RWBY. Led by... Ruby Rose."
More cheers and applause followed. Ruby dropped her arm in surprise, while Yang immediately squeezed her new leader, embarrassing her by lifting her off the ground and swinging her. Weiss was moreso shocked, likely expecting herself to be made the Team Leader instead. But Blake looked past her team and to the headmaster, who gave a solemn nod.
Soon it would be time to talk.
--------------------------------------------
"Dad! Dad!" Ruby called into the screen from her seat. Taiyang, on the other side of the screen, shoved her dad. "Dad, did you hear me at all?"
"I heard ya just fine, kiddo." Her dad said with a yawn. "Ya got into Beacon, right?"
"I said that weeks ago!" She whined, her wolf ears going flat. "I'm here now, and I-"
"Made team leader, right?"
"Oh, so you were listening?" Taiyang said with a scowl. "We're both proud of you, Ruby."
"I was up late doing an important job for your headmaster." Dad gave a grin. "And he's wanting me to swing by in a couple months." At this Ruby squealed.
"Would you keep it down over there?!" Ruby winced as her partner shouted over the barrier between them. She'd been so caught up in the excitement of the day, she'd forgotten she wasn't the only one with family to tell the good news to. "Apologies, Winter. My team leader decided she just has to be as loud as she possibly can."
"Hey, by the way, where's your sister?" Dad asked. "Coulda sworn she was gonna tell us with you."
"She got called to the headmaster's office. I don't know why, though." At this, the two men looked at each other with concern. "I-I'm sure it's nothing serious! She's just, y'know, got, uh..."
"It's fine, Ruby." Taiyang sighed. "I just didn't expect her to go to see Professor Ozpin already."
"It's probably because of her previous record at Signal." Dad explained. "She was a bit of a troublemaker back there."
Aside from a few pranks, not really. Maybe a little anti-bullying violence after Ruby showed up, but nothing to the point where she'd have to go straight to the headmaster's office. What could have happened that required her to go after her initiation?
--------------------------------------------
"Ms. Belladonna?" Blake looked up from her seat in the waiting room. The deputy headmistress, Professor Goodwitch, eyed her from her towering position over her. "The headmaster will see you now."
She and Yang had been called to the headmaster's office for some reason. At first, she thought it was in regard to herself being the Fall Maiden. However, the inclusion of her newest partner Yang muddied the conclusion. Could this be because Yang was now her partner, or something else entirely? Yang hadn't left yet, so she was still in there.
With a nod, she stood up and entered the elevator leading to the Beacon Headmaster's office. The large room at the top was massive, almost dome-like with it's ceiling nearly obscured by massive, moving gears.
"Good afternoon, Ms. Belladonna." Professor Ozpin formally greeted.
"Wassup, Blake?" Yang informally greeted.
"Now that you are both here," the headmaster began, "I would like to congratulate you both on passing initiation. And with that said, I would like you both to properly introduce yourselves to each other."
"Of course." Blake nodded, then turning to Yang. "My name is Blake Belladonna, and I am the Fall Maiden."
"No way!" Yang covered her mouth. "You're a Maiden, too?!"

Now I’m so curious as to the Paths of the rwby characters omg. You said they’re gonna be mostly The Hunt, but that some are gonna change?
Yeah they’re all almost entirely The Hunt/the Path of their home nation with some exceptions.
For reference, Atlas follows Erudition, Mistral follows Harmony, Vale and Vacuo follow Hunt, White Fang follow Nihility, and the Grimm come from Propagation and Finality
Each character and their Path is what they are as of their most recent appearance in RWBY canon, whether that’s time of death, last scene, or as of the v9 epilogue. Some minor characters have not been included as I don’t believe they are necessarily Pathwalkers/forgot about them when this list was made. It’s safe to assume that any non-mentioned Huntsmen follow the Path of The Hunt
Additional note, the line in my post about there only being 4 Emanators in Remnant outside of Ozpin and Salem is still technically true as of the information that Ozpin knows. All other Emanators are mysteries to him and were not intentional. The wills of the Aeons is strange…
Team RWBY
Ruby Rose, The Hunt, wind
Weiss Schnee, The Erudition, ice
Blake Belladonna, The Harmony, formally Nihility, quantum
Yang Xiao-Long, The Preservation, fire
Team JNPR -> ORNJ
Jaune Arc, The Preservation, physical
Nora Valkyrie, The Destruction, lightning
Pyrrha Nikos, The Hunt, physical
Lie Ren, The Harmony, formerly The Hunt, physical
Oscar Pine, The Trailblaze, imaginary
Beacon Teachers
Ozpin, The Hunt, Emanator, formerly Permanence, Emanator, imaginary

From STRQ to Finish
There's been plenty of posts on how Team RWBY are turning out different from their predecessors, Team STRQ, and I'd thought I'd throw in my two cents, by comparing the members of each team with their parallel, and how the former succeed where the latter failed.
Taiyang Xiao Long - Yang Xiao Long: I know there's been some dispute on Tai lately, which I'm not comfortable with causing another debate. I think Taiyang is doing his best, and definitely had problems in the past, but I the biggest issue isn't with his daughters, but how he's completely unable to stand up to the rest of Oz's Circle. Take the end of Volume 3, where he's trying to comfort Ruby with the Fall of Beacon's fallout, only to be unceremoniously kicked out of the room by Qrow. This may extend into a deeper problem with confronting difficult issues entirely. Yang, by comparison, does not hesitate to look at Oz head-on and get in his face about his decisions. I'm not pleased with Yang agreeing with Oz in Volume 8, but I'm hoping this will be corrected.
Qrow Branwen - Blake Belladonna: Both are introduced feeling guilty for their past as outlaws (the Tribe/White Fang) and thinking that they need to keep their distance from others to protect them (Misfortune Semblance/Adam Taurus). By while Qrow almost lets himself get consumed by his own self-loathing, Blake manages to pull herself out and overcome it and set her former group on the path of goodness. And BTW, they both found blondes who try to help them out. (Two in Blake's case)
Summer Rose - Weiss Schee: This might be reaching, but I'm starting to see a lot in common between Summer and Weiss. They both have white as their color-motif. They both have an axe in their mythos (Summer's weapon Sundered Rose, while Weiss has gotten close to Professor Port, who has Blowhard)
Furthermore, while Summer was clearly the most caring parent she left...and her legacy has put an immense amount of pressure on Ruby. Weiss, meanwhile, was the one who realized how much Ruby has been suffering because of that pressure.
Raven Branwen - Ruby Rose: Again, reaching. But on top of similar aesthetics, Ruby's breakdown in Volume 9 reminds me a bit of how bitter and ornery Raven acts. While Oz (What a "reliable" source he is) tells us that Raven left because she was "selfish" I wonder what really happened between them. Was Raven someone like Ruby once, only to have her spirit broken? We only know the current Raven, after all. But while no one was willing or able to help Raven or see things from her point, Ruby receives the love and support from her friends.
Well, that' s my view of things. Whether you agree or disagree, please be civil about it.

The Bandit’s Rose - Chapter 9
Fandom: RWBY
Raven Branwen/Summer Rose Taiyang Xiao Long/Qrow Branwen Summer Rose/Taiyang Xiao Long Raven Branwen/Taiyang Xiao Long
Read From the Beginning
Summary:
Before there was Team RWBY, there was Team STRQ. And before Team STRQ were huntsmen and huntresses, they were students.
Summer, Taiyang, Raven, and Qrow are four of Beacon Academy’s newest students, and although they don’t know it yet, powerful forces have taken note of them. But if they’re going to survive being pawns in a secret game, they’ll first have to survive each other.
Read on AO3 | Read on FF.net
Summer waltzed through the entrance to one of Vale’s trendy downtown fashion boutiques. There was a huge grin on her face and excitement shining in her eyes. Raven walked into the store behind her, looking considerably less enthusiastic. Summer, however, was too exuberant to care. She’d spotted this particular fashion outlet long before her first semester at Beacon had begun when she’d accompanied her father on one of his numerous business trips to the city of Vale. Back then there hadn’t been enough time for her to actually check the place out. Now, she had all the time in the world. Even better, she had someone to shop for.
The simple black dress that Summer was wearing belied the fact that she absolutely loved fashion in all its forms. She loved putting together new outfits. She loved choosing the right colors and styles for someone. And she loved hunting for that last, perfect piece to finish off a look. She frequently thought about updating her own wardrobe. She could certainly afford it—her father’s business was very lucrative—but she’d never felt right spending so much money on herself. Her friends, however, were another matter entirely. She’d practically begged each and every one of her classmates back at Crier Academy to let her treat them to a shopping spree. Unfortunately, very few of them had ever taken her up on her offer. She’d understood, even if she’d been disappointed. Ever since the Great War had ended sixty-some-odd years ago, personal expression had become an ingrained, sacred right in the world’s eyes. And a big part of that was picking a bold and colorful look for yourself. Very few people were willing to entrust someone else with something so important.
Fortunately for Summer, today she finally had a willing subject. And not just any subject. Today she was going to get to dress up the beautiful Raven Branwen. But as eager as she was to simply go wild, she still wanted to respect Raven’s opinions. She turned to Raven and asked, “Well, what are you thinking?”

About the Yang Xiao Long Abuse post.
Something occurred to me; Qrow may have also contributed to the abuse.
Back in Volume 3, when Yang was framed by Emerald?
Qrow accused her of either lying or being crazy.
Yang sought one of her family figures for validation, and Qrow called her crazy.
Then Qrow told her that Raven didn't care for her.
Would what Qrow did be considered abusive as well?
There's a lot in Volume 4 I dislike, which is why its my least favorite volume, and the Patch Scenes were among them.
But I feel that the way Qrow treated Yang was also a factor in Yang's mental/emotional state.
Also, regarding Yang's prosthetic. It appears Tai had planned to "call in some favors, pull a few strings" in order to get Yang her new arm, which shows that while Tai is emotionally insensitive to a degree, he is still caring about others and willing to help.
Ruby did say that Taiyang does love them both and is overprotective.
But a person can be loving and yet at the same time emotionally harmful to a degree.
Its strange, given the character we see of Qrow and Tai in RWBY Chibi, both being loving family members.
How would you, if you could make suggestions to the writing team, made ideas on how to improve things in V4?
Beyond just Yang, it feels there was too much in need of a revision here or there.
So to start with the question about Qrow, those instances wouldn’t count as abuse. For something to be abuse there has to be a pattern of this stuff happening, so the single comment about the Vytal Festival isn’t abuse, just a really messed up thing to say to her.
As for the comment about Raven, while it’s a little too blunt, it’s not something she shouldn’t hear. Especially since Qrow gave her the information to find her and knows Yang’ll be meeting her in the near future and he wants to prepare her for that.
Like as much as she was saying she was just looking for answers, you know deep down she’d been hoping for years if she found her, Raven would care enough about her to take care of her and Ruby.
That being said, in V6 when Yang and Ruby find him passed out drunk, their reaction does indicate he was doing this regularly at some point in their lives and they know how to handle it… and taking care of a passed out drunk adult isn’t the job of a kid(s) and is also a form of parentification. So likely he contributed in some regard when Yang was younger.
However, Qrow acknowledges that he has an issue and does try (successfully!) to work on himself to be a better uncle/mentor both to Yang and Ruby but also their friends as well, which is important to acknowledge.
And yes, I never meant to imply Tai doesn’t love them both. He clearly does, it’s just that love alone isn’t enough when you’ve got a couple of very young grieving children at home, and then a traumatized teenager with fairly severe PTSD. (And tbh I wouldn’t ever put much weight into the characterization in RWBY “cake butler” Chibi, lol).
As for V4, I think that the biggest issue the volume had overall was that they were trying to follow too many different storylines in too many different locations. Like they had to balance:
RNJR + Qrow’s trip across Mistral
Weiss escaping from her father
Blake and the Faunus Civil War
Yang and her PTSD/Recovery
Introducing Oscar and all the world stuff that comes with the reincarnation story
Introducing Salem and Team WTCH
I’d suggest combining at least a couple of these earlier on to give themselves more breathing room. Tbh Yang’s entire recovery arc barely happened (it was like three, 5ish minute scenes across the whole volume, which was also almost every scene she had) and Weiss’s arc was also fairly short and a bit underwhelming for how much it was built up, so I’d try to fold them into other storylines.
Honestly, I’d specifically suggest combining Yang and Oscar’s stories (they both are dealing with huge, unexpected changes in their lives they don’t know how to navigate) and Blake and Weiss’s (Weiss could go through a very similar emotional journey as she did in canon but from the opposite side by witnessing how Ghira and Kali treat her and Blake compared to her father), with Yang and Oscar catching up to RNJR at some point in the later part of the volume.
If they specifically wanted to write Tai as a good parent now (while also not retconning anything from V1-V3), one of the first things he’d need to do is admit that he was in the wrong in the past (like Qrow did in V7) and was not there for her. And then make it clear he is now and then ask after and follow her lead in terms of what she needs to heal instead of assuming he knows best.
