I've been thinking more about my previous reblog and honestly I'm still a little baffled by the fact a lot of folks on the road where I live act like encountering a cyclist is the worst thing that can happen to them. because it's not, cyclists overwhelmingly know the rules of the road and follow them, and so long as you're not making them unsafe, you can coexist quite peacefully. maybe you'll have to slow down a bit when you pass them, but that's it.

no, the actual worst kind of person to encounter on the road is someone driving one of those massive pickup trucks. those people know the rules of the road and voluntarily, spitefully elect to ignore them because they think they're above interpersonal responsibility and they enjoy making everyone else as unsafe as possible at all times about it

the people with the "im da king of da highway" mindsets arent the guys weaving in and out of lanes passing people. its the ones going 75 mph in the fifth-most left lane ignoring the drivers passing, tailgating, and honking at them. with their smug superiority for going the speed limit, because why would anyone want to go faster than what theyre going?

I've been trying to let myself sit without entertainment from time to time, out of some vague notion that if I don't flick from work to escapist fiction to conversation with loved ones to fiction to a different piece of fiction back to work etc etc then I may have some original thoughts, and perhaps even develop opinions on my own. Of course, I already have some thought patterns ingrained, and even when I'm thinking of whatever topic is most important to me in that moment, I think in a manner that I have often learned from the outside world. All that to say, I spent 3 hours driving today and I primarily spent that time hazily composing tumblr posts in my head about, like, fellow road users and how the sun was kind of in my eyes.
