They need as many people to watch it this weekend (June 10-11) to see if they make a second season so go here:
bit.ly/watchcoffeecafe
I’m not sponsored I’m just a fan I live in Poland I’ve offered before to dub over their Netflix special in Polish but they never got back to me probably didn’t see it

I finished my Lighthouse edit of episode 8! 🥰WB blocked it on YouTube! 🙄 More edits coming soon!
Tumblr media
WB decided to block my over 10 hours of work on YouTube. So I had to post it to the alternate site I use for my Ko-Fi uploads.
This video is part of my ongoing project of making Lighthouse cuts of Our Flag Means Death. I'm going to be releasing as many clips as I can to YouTube. But I can only post the full cuts to Ko-Fi since WB wants to block all of my videos.
Check out my Ko-Fi for updates and the full edits when I finish them.

Our dear Pirate Nana (amladydragonfly on bsky) had a bit of a spill at Galaxy Con Columbus, and it left her with some intense bruises! She posted updates on BsKY about them and Chaos Dad, David Jenkins sent her some love--and an invitation to join the crew! You really are badass and beautiful Nana! Just FYI, Nana also wanted me to tell you all that she is doing much better, and is ok after the whole incident-- but wouldn't have been if it weren't for all the kindness of this fandom! She says she's never felt so loved-- so thank you so much crew for taking care of her and spreading so much love and joy her way! You truly are the best crew ever!

== Love Notes ==
Hey there lovelies! I'm trying very hard to catch up right now, hopefully it'll happen over the next couple days as home and work slows down.
Today I'd like to send out a gentle reminder to take some time for yourself this week! This is the time of year when a lot of folks are busy taking care of others, getting things ready for family or friends, and honestly, a lot of times we forget to take care of ourselves. Take a break-- take a day off work that's just for you if you have the capacity. Buy yourself a little treat, or do something on the list of chores that YOU want to get done and not that other people need you to get done.
Some of you may have TOO MUCH time for yourself and want time with others-- so be sure to reach out if you do! People get busy during the holidays and they can forget to check on folks because their minds are occupied, but I can guarantee you they think about you often, and want you to be okay. Holidays can be such a mixed bag, and not one person will have the same experiences with them, so do what you need to do for YOU. I hope you have a restful week and nothing too crazy goes on. Rest up, drink some water, and know we <3 ya. Night crew!

It isn't just that moment either; it's the seconds after that the camera lingers on him. That film was and remains severely under-rated for what it SHOWED and didn't just tell: including that contradiction of emotions in him.
Because it wasn't just that realization that hit Hiddleston's expressions: that and a lot more was there and in his tones. There was the hope she crushed still at it after 1500 years, the disappointment and hurt, the quieter recognition of those things and resignation, and the full realization that no, she did not care enough about him to truly try past the last 1500 years of lies about him, their relationship, or the fact he wasn't even the same species with extremely differing traits outside of backing solitary confinement lasting three thousand five hundred, to four thousand years over immediate execution (which in itself is a whole other level of wtfery when you start asking questions he probably had an inkling about like: how did they know the details of the supposed deal made and not know either the goal OR under what threat:) and in the last moments there was also the very clear wish none of that was the case... he wanted to trust her, and there simply was no grounds on which to do that at this stage.
Add in the clear thought that.. he doesn't know who his mother is any more than we the viewers do: or how honest even Odin's account is either. The likelihood is for us that Loki isn't aware of though: Odin very probably killed her and many others on his way into the temple he was still bloody from fighting his way into, to find Loki at all.
And TDW pulled that scene off so damned well in literal seconds long scenes with more expression than dialogue.
youtube
^That was just one of them, but definitely one of the best.
...also tags.
God the moment in TDW when Frigga asks Loki "Then am I not your mother?" is so fucking painful and sad.
Like Loki was hopeful that he still had Frigga as a mother, that he still had some family that actually loved him, that she was still the good person he always thought she was, but then she starts to manipulate him like Odin, defending Odin's actions, and basically saying "you can either have both of us or neither of us". And he decides that he's not taking it anymore, he already took enough from Odin, he's not taking it from her. So, he responds, realizing that he has no one left, "you're not".
And oh my god just seeing the realization on his face makes me cry

The Marvels
No spoilers (for now, will mention when they start)
Well that was better than I expected! I had fun with this. Sure, it wasn't a great movie. But was it a good movie? Well, listen here…
Okay, so the thing is: I am very inclined to be nice to this movie, because I had fun and it had people in it that I enjoy seeing, and it's just nice to see something like that in the cinema every once in a while. I am also inclined to be extra nice to it because I know that the professional misogynists over on Youtube, you know the kind of men who go, "actually Gamergate had some valid points", will later say that this movie with its disappointing money and mediocre critical scores marks the end of Marvels Cinematic Universe. Which is just ludicrous. The end of the MCU being any good is still Endgame and will forever remain that way.
That said: Wow this movie is an unholy mess! It's not that it's a bad movie, it's barely a movie at all. The whole thing feels like a cut-down version of a TV show, and that TV show would have been so much better. It's barely a story; for the most part of it, right until the very end, stuff just happens, with a minimum of connective tissue. There is not just one sequence that makes you go, "WTF is that?", but two. Both very fun in their own right, but they don't fit tonally into anything, there's no lead-up and they don't end up mattering. It's just stuff that happens.
If this had been a TV show, then both of those would have been great plots for an episode each, maybe one of them as a fun little B plot in the classic Star Trek way.
This also applies to the characters, and from here on out, spoiler warnings apply.
Getting the Marvels together sounds like a fun plan in theory, but the movie doesn't really feel like it had any story to tell that required them. Kamala is here because… well, it's fun that Kamala is here! She doesn't have an arc or anything, but it's nice to see her. Carol and Monica have a bit of an arc, tied to some stuff that happened in between movies, but they resolve it long before the movie is over. At the end of the movie (big spoilers), Monica sacrifices herself by going into an alternate universe. This comes up literally seconds before she does it, and it seem like not even genre-savvy Kamala notices that this is what she's doing. Of course, if Monica Rambeau is in a different universe, we're all hoping they'll set up Nextwave, but sadly not. The mid-credit scene only sets up the X-Men. Boring!
The individual bits of this movie are all fun in their own right, but they don't come together, or even do anything particularly interesting in their own right. Compared to things like the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, or the two Taika Waititi Thor movies (yes even the second), this is a bit disappointing. The movie is a very fun pointless mess, and it's ultimately up to you which of these two parts you focus on. I like to focus on the fun part, but you can write way more about the pointless mess here on Tumblr. And I genuinely think that you could have done more interesting things with these characters.

sorry if you've been asked this before but i'm curious: when and how did you get into film? i've followed you for some time and you mention being in film school, did you always know you wanted to study film? what/who inspired you? how close are you to graduating? i hope these questions are okay and not intrusive!
i only got into film pretty recently actually!! for the longest time i thought i didn't like movies. i went to uni to major in film primarily to take editing courses because what i wanted more than anything was to be an editor for any of the youtubers whose stuff i liked (which tbf would still be a lot of fun). i dabbled in making videos myself for a while, then kinda fell off.
i had a moment in 2020 when i sort of realized what film could be for the first time and watched a lot of great ones: oldboy (2003), fight club (1999), pride (2014), 13th (2016), portrait of a lady on fire (2019), parasite (2019), us (2019), really 2019 was a fucking great year for movies tbh. and i kind of realized that the reason i had said i didn't like movies was because 98% of what i watched was marvel/family movies and i didn't really look for anything else.
but i never REALLY got into the whole analysis thing or fell in love with film until i watched boy (2010) in april of last year. my letterboxd diary before and after that movie is crazy. something snapped in my brain idk. before that i couldn't really sit through movies very often but after that i just couldn't get enough of it and wanted to see everything movies could do because boy hit so hard and was so, so gorgeous. so i did a deep dive into taika waititi's work (i had seen thor and jojo rabbit and what we do in the shadows before but never really cared who made them) and just went a little bit insane. and started watching every other movie i had even wanted to watch a little bit
and it's funny, because looking back at my letterboxd after this, i realized the moment back in 2020 where i started watching more films for a little bit was kicked off by jojo rabbit. so something about this guy's work was just so effective for me, even when i didn't know who he was, and part of what got me so interested in film was trying to figure out why the hell that was and how he did it. and in the process of that i discovered a love for so many other things i didn't realize i had--filmmaking as well as analysis, production as well as postproduction, even writing! i love it all. but taika's work will always have a solid place in my heart because of that.

And here's the article. Enjoy! 🎃🍁
This goes into the vampire mockumentary concept from 2005 until today, and I've also included my favorite episode of WWDitS that features Colin Robinson getting a promotion (and was directed by Jemaine Clement!)
Tumblr media
youtube
Next month won't have a specific theme, but I do finally have the Kate Berlant article a day series ready for November, and I plan on finishing out some items that have been sitting in my drafts folder since July: Bo Burnham and Neal Brennan and Bo's Comedy Heroes about the influence Bill Bailey has had on his career.
Tumblr media
Should be some really cool topics as well as a few exciting interviews being available on my website for the rest of 2023—Enjoy, and keep it here for more comedy fun! ✌🏼🐔
Hey, everyone!
Just one more day left for New Zealand Comedy Month, which means I have one final (spooky!) post—What We Do in the Shadows and its spinoffs! 🧛‍♂️
Tumblr media
I will be delving into the short film from 2005, the movie from 2014, and the two shows that resulted from the acclaimed vampire film.
The identically titled FX show, featuring Matt Berry and the first female lead vampire in the Jemaine/Taika universe: Nadja!
Tumblr media
The program also has one of the best characters EVER imo, the energy vampire Colin Robinson.
Tumblr media
And, of course, the wonderfully weird and sweet Wellington Paranormal, which is based on the two easily hypnotized cops from the movie.
Tumblr media
The best character on that show is the hilarious Sergeant Maaka who makes fake button noises before “entering” into his secret paranormal room haha
Tumblr media
I hope you enjoy the article, which will be available tomorrow morning, and keep it here for more comedy fun! ✌🏼🐔

‼️ INTERNET SHOW AND TELL TIME ‼️
I absolutely adore documentation of internet stories and this is so fascinating. I just couldn’t resist talking ab it a little bit on here!!
(If you know ab figwit this probably is completely unsurprising, but I didn’t, and thought it was so fun)
It’s basically about this guy who was an extra on the council of Elrond in the first lotr movie and apparently some people found him cute or smth so a whole website was made about him, and it got to be like this fun little inside joke in the fandom. He even got to show up in the third movie due to his internet fame
AND ITS BRET MCKENZIE??? FROM FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS?? Like jemaine and taika are in this documentary as just his friends (I mean jemaine was also there as a band mate but anyways). Like this is pre wwdits I love it. Obviously flight of the concords was popular in its own little corner, but apparently it got a little boost at the time due to this whole deal
Also just the fact that they got Peter Jackson, Elijah Wood, and some of the other actors involved in LOTR to give little interviews is wonderful
There’s also just such an earnest awkwardness that’s so genuine and fun in regards to the documentary itself
If this seems like something you’d wanna watch (in the background or not) then have fun here it is:
youtube
mildly unrelated side note: strange aeons is a YouTuber I especially love when it comes to fascinating older internet/fandom stories
