I just love the range of the queer couples this season so far. Lucius and Black Pete having a sweet reunion and openly communicating, Stede and Ed having a break up and finding their way back to each other story for the century, and Olu and Jim are collecting people for their polycule like they’re Pokémon

Okay but Ed and Stede having their moment, kissing and confessing their love for one another while Zheng is right there literally fighting for her life has got to be one of the funniest moments of this episode

Let's not forget that until this Stede has only had sex with Mary (that we know of) so now he's losing Ed not only the day after they first have sex but the day after he first has sex with anyone he's actually attracted to, not to mention in love with

Like, the man was flying so high and then lost it all (and had his lover call their night a mistake to his face) in under 24 hours, I think it's impossible to overstate how much he's really going through it at the moment

So, logically, I'm glad they didn't show us Ed and Stede kissing either in Stede's dream or in the mermaid sequence. I think that was a good choice and it gave the impact of their kiss in episode 5 a lot more punch. Kisses in those scenes would have been nothing but a fantasy and this season dwells much more on reality than on fantasies. Saving the kisses made the actual ones all the better.
